re: #952 GregInSeattle

It’s about all sorts of attacks against our freedoms.

OK, here’s my position: Teach science in science class. If someone asks about creationism/ID in biology, tell them that many people believe that, but that doesn’t fall into the scientific realm, and this is a science class.

I hardly think mentioning creationism/ID constitutes an attack on any sort of freedom. You don’t have the freedom to not be offended.

Don’t forget to remind them that empirical facts are not subject to popularity contests, or else the Earth was once a flat disc circled by the sun, only morphing into a sun-circling sphere when opinions on the matter changed. And that reams of empirical evidence supports evolutionary theory, while not a single shred of empirical evidence supports creationism.

Why aren’t astrology or alchemy addressed in public high school science classes either? For the same reason that creationism shouldn’t be addressed: they’re not science.
