Yes, the United States has made huge progress in gay rights in an amazingly short period of time, but our religious fanatics are doing incredible damage in places like Uganda.
Video: Rachel Maddow on the Horrible SCOTUS Decision Allowing Anti-Choice Protesters to Harass Women
The video included in this clip, showing a group of “pro-life” activists celebrating the murder of a doctor and a clinic escort, is absolutely horrifying.
Beck lapses into a hallucinatory fantasy in which he’s the President of the United States (kind of a daymare, really), and describes how he would deal with issues like the crisis in Iraq: he would station troops along all our borders and then warn the rest of the world, “If you screw with us, we will pound you into glass.”
Gaze upon the terrifying visage of Glenn Beck, Destroyer of Worlds.
President Beck would give the state of Israel the green light to do whatever it feels is necessary in order to protect itself, including the use of nuclear weapons, but the US would not be getting involved anywhere in the world because America needs to focus on getting back in line with God.
That doesn’t mean that America would be going into a shell, Beck proclaimed, warning the rest of the world that “if you screw with us, we will pound you into glass.”
We “will destroy you in a heartbeat,” Beck warned any nation that would even contemplate messing with America, pledging to utterly decimate entire cities if necessary and then just walk away while this nation focuses on getting right with God because America is God’s top priority.
Oh yes, this is Glenn at his finest, “…pledging to utterly decimate entire cities if necessary and then just walk away.”
Hey, wait … I think I’ve seen this movie before.
There were supposed to be “millions” of God-fearing, freedom-loving, gun-hugging American militia crackpots in Washington DC today, taking back America while dodging Obama’s drones.
But somewhere along the way, “millions” became “dozens.” May have to put that “overthrowing America” thing on hold.
I’m not going to embed it here, because it may cause brain damage, but if you must see these Neanderthals in “action” there’s a live video feed here.
Meanwhile in Louisiana, Republican lawmakers are getting set to make the official state book the Bible.
Which would, of course, be unquestionably unconstitutional, and would face legal challenges and be inevitably struck down, wasting who knows how much state money in the process. The party of fiscal responsibility!
Legislation that would make the Holy Bible the official state book of Louisiana cleared the House Committee on Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs with a vote of 8-5 Thursday afternoon. It will now head to the full House of Representatives for consideration.
Rep. Thomas Carmody, R-Shreveport, originally filed a bill to declare a specific copy of the Bible, found in the Louisiana State Museum system, the official state book. But by the time he presented the proposal to the committee, he changed language in his legislation to make the generic King James version of the Bible, a text used worldwide, the official state book.
Carmody said his intention was not to mingle religion with government functions. “This is not about establishing an official religion,” he said.
The science of a lunar eclipse isn’t complicated and there’s nothing magical about it; one large object (the Earth) passes in front of a light source (the Sun), casting a shadow on another large object (Earth’s moon). You can do the same thing by putting your hand in front of a light source. See that shadow on the wall? That’s an eclipse too.
But there exists a strange tribe of throwbacks for whom seeing a shadow cast across the moon evokes primitive fears and atavistic explanations, a backward, insular, pre-rational group of strange human beings known as World Net Daily: Tens of Millions Watch Heavenly Sign.
All of the science online, the explanations and the details, couldn’t keep even elements of the secular media from asking bluntly, “Does the Bible predict the ‘blood moon’?”
Pastor Mark Biltz, whose “Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs” is one of the hottest books in America now, believes that not only are there references for people to see, but they need to be paying attention.
“I believe that the blood moons have great historic and prophetic significance just as they did following 1948 and 1967. In the book of Joel it mentions three times about the sun and the moon going dark and in context it also mentions Divine wrath against all countries that want to divide or part the land of Israel,” he said.
“I believe the moons are like flashing red warning lights at a heavenly intersection saying to Israel as well as the nations they will be crossing heavenly red lines and if they do, they will understand as Pharaoh did on Passover night 3,500 years ago that the Creator backs up what He says.
“Like Pharaoh the leaders and pundits of today will realize when it comes to crossing the red lines of the Creator of the universe he has more than a pen and a phone in his hand.”
That last line about the pen and the phone is a swipe at President Obama, of course, one of those right wing memes that grabs hold of the tribal consciousness like an eclipse of the brain.

Pat Robertson is a one-man right wing religious rebranding effort, and today on the 700 Club he helpfully explained to those deluded souls who say Jesus would have been charitable toward gays that no, he wouldn’t have, because the gays were all stoned to death in Jesus’ time.
So there wouldn’t have been any gay people for Jesus to be nice to, see. It just wouldn’t have even been an issue.
“I think you got to remember from the Bible, if you look carefully at the Bible what would have happened in Jesus’ time if two men decided they wanted to cohabit together, they would have been stoned to death,” Robertson said. “So Jesus would not have baked them a wedding cake nor would he have made them a bed to sleep in because they wouldn’t have been there. But we don’t have that in this country here so that’s the way it is.”
There’s such a sense of longing in that last sentence.
And of course, it all comes down to His Nibs. The Horned One. The Lord of Light. Lucifer. Beelzebub and the gays — they’re like this.
“What is it about gays? What is it about abortion? Have you ever thought why they’re on the forefront right now? Both of them deny the reproduction of human species,” Robertson said, adding that homosexuality is “a meaningless exercise because it doesn’t go anywhere.”
“The Devil is trying to say, ‘I’m going to destroy your progeny any way I can. If you will kill your babies, that’s fine, I’m with you; if you will deny the chance of having babies, that’s fine too; but I want to destroy your opportunities to reproduce,’” he said. “It’s a very serious thing and we’re not talking about it, and we need to as a society, we have to realize where the attack is coming because it is definitely an attack.”
Crazed far right demagogue Brent Bozell is preparing a well-funded campaign to destroy the Republican leadership.
Why? Because they’re not insane enough, of course.
ForAmerica announced Tuesday that it’s pouring six-figures into its “Dump The Leadership” campaign.
It probably won’t come as a surprise that the man behind the group is none other than L. Brent Bozell III, the right-wing flamethrower who’s proven himself plenty willing to take on the GOP establishment. …
“Time and again, year after year, the Republican leadership in the House and Senate has come to grassroots conservatives, and Tea Party supporters pleading for our money, our volunteers, our time, our energy and our votes,” Bozell told CNN in a statement.
Bozell said the group will use digital ads between now and November to target House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX).
Another excellent moment in Republican rebranding today, and yet another wonderful example of GOP backward-speak, as religious fanatic Mike Huckabee tells an RNC conference that women who use birth control are being tricked by Democrats into believing they can’t control their libido.
“I think it’s time Republicans no longer accept listening to the Democrats talk about a ‘war on women,’” Huckabee said during a speech at the Republican National Committee’s winter meeting in Washington. “The fact is the Republicans don’t have a war on women, they have a war for women, to empower them to be something other than victims of their gender.”
Huckabee said Democrats rely on women believing they are weaker than men and in need of government handouts, including the contraception mandate in Obamacare.
Huckabee said Democrats tell women “they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing them for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of government.”
Behind this absurd, distorted argument is a realization that the right has a huge problem with their attitude toward women’s rights — but absolutely no intention to deal honestly with it. Huckabee tried to cast his misogynistic statement as a smear against Democrats, but actually revealed his own thinking.
Say what you want about Fox News, but they do know their target audience:
Fundamentalist Christian pastor Robert Jeffress appeared Monday night on The O’Reilly Factor to discuss his new book, Perfect Ending, which suggests the president’s policies were conditioning Americans to rely on the government and make them vulnerable to the satanic political figure foretold in the Bible.
“What I’m saying in the book, Bill, is there’s going to be a future world dictator before Christ returns who’s going to usurp people’s personal feelings, uh, rights,” Jeffers told host Bill O’Reilly.
Jeffers, pastor of the 11,000-member First Baptist Church in Dallas, said the anti-Christ would wage war against Christians and change religion-based laws.
“He’s going to do it without any opposition, and my question was, how is he going to be able to pull that off?” Jeffers said. “My thesis is, people will have been conditioned long before the anti-Christ comes to accept governmental overreach, and that’s what you’re seeing with President Obama.”
He said the end times were predicted in the Old Testament Book of Daniel and the New Testament Book of Revelations.
“Even Jews look forward to it,” Jeffers told O’Reilly.
