Pat Buchanan, on MSNBC:If President Bush is more unpopular than the Reverend Wright, the Republicans are in a lot of trouble. Was there ever any doubt about this? I know Clinton supporters and Republicans fervently believe that Wright is a top concern among voters, but really, were people supposed to think that the crazy rantings of a Chicago preacher are more relevant to their lives than the mess Bush has left behind the last eight years?
There is a fragrant hint of panic in the air tonight at the new mainstream center of the Democratic Party: Daily Kos: Obama, Get Wright’s Dirt Off Your Coattails.
Many of you will disagree with what I have to say, however it’s rapidly becoming clear that it’s now time for Senator Obama to sever whatever ties or perceptions of ties exist between himself and Jeremiah Wright.
Let me be clear, his controversial positions are damaging enough, but they are far from the worst of it.
Rev. Wright is trying to attach himself to Senator Obama: to fuse his cause, his fortunes, his solutions, and his grievances with those of Obama.
I suggest you re-read that last sentence, for it contains the death of our hopes for a progressive president within it.

Yes, the Daily Kos Kooks are now accusing Hillary Clinton of “darkening” an image of Barack Obama that appears in a video posted at the Clinton site: Nutroots accuse Hillary of darkening footage of Obama to make him look “blacker”.
Here’s the Kos diary, with more than 800 comments from the super sleuths: Daily Kos: [updated] Hillary’s ad: debate footage doctored to make Obama blacker.
What I see in these pictures is the typical color alteration that happens from transferring and copying video segments, which also accounts for the aspect ratio changes; different equipment, different software, different video sources. The color isn’t darkened, it’s desaturated, and I doubt very much that it’s deliberate. They’re comparing colors from low resolution processed video, seen on a computer screen. The idiocy makes my head hurt.
It’s another nutroots mass delusion. But they’re so cute when they’re all worked up like that! No, wait… actually, they aren’t.
UPDATE at 3/4/08 2:12:21 pm:
I’m getting into the spirit of this thing and decided to help the Kos Kidz out, with one of my patented throbbing animated GIFs, revealing the nefarious Clintonian machine at work beyond a shadow of a doubt! Those racist bastards!
She has completely snapped. Posted on Christmas Eve at her site: My Left Wing:: Goodbye, Cruel Jews.
UPDATE at 12/26/07 9:15:00 am:
This one was even too much for the Kos Kooks: Daily Kos: My Left Wing (of Stormfront).
Senator Joe Lieberman, practically the sole remaining sane Democrat, has some words for the Daily Kos Kooks and the Code Pink loons: Lieberman Lashes Out at Democrats.
Mr. Lieberman was particularly critical of his 22 Democratic colleagues in the Senate who voted against the senator’s resolution to label Iran’s revolutionary guard corps and elite Quds Force a foreign terrorist entity. He accused liberal Web logs of peddling a “conspiracy theory,” namely that the legislation was a back door authorization for war. Also, without naming names, he said some of his colleagues who had voted against it said they agreed with its substance, but told the senator, “We don’t trust Bush. He’ll use this resolution as an excuse for war against Iran.”
Mr. Lieberman concluded, “There is something profoundly wrong-something that should trouble all of us — when we have elected Democratic officials who seem more worried about how the Bush administration might respond to Iran’s murder of our troops, than about the fact that Iran is murdering our troops.” He added, “There is likewise something profoundly wrong when we see candidates who are willing to pander to this politically paranoid, hyper-partisan sentiment in the Democratic base — even if it sends a message of weakness and division to the Iranian regime.”
The Nutroots are celebrating over the death of Anbar Awakening leader Abu Risha: There are plenty more like Abu Risha.
At Olbermann Watch: Keith Olbermann Admits He Is Un-American! Yep, he really does. And “indefensible,” too.
Forwarded without commentary, for the moment: Shakespeare’s Sister: More Beauchamp.
Tonight’s big Nutroots loser is Mike Stark: Daily Kos: Keith Olbermann defends BillO on Countdown.
Yes, you read that right.

Note to TIME Magazine columnist Joe Klein: suck it up, Joe. Some of us have been targets of the insane bile that pours out of the left-wing blogosphere for years. It didn’t just start recently, and it’s not unusual or rare. The left-wing haze in which you live parted for a second and you saw what the Nutroots are really like. Welcome to the reality-based real world.
And your attempt to blame it on “right-wing talk radio” is just plain dumb.
But the smart stuff is being drowned out by a fierce, bullying, often witless tone of intolerance that has overtaken the left-wing sector of the blogosphere. Anyone who doesn’t move in lockstep with the most extreme voices is savaged and ridiculed—especially people like me who often agree with the liberal position but sometimes disagree and are therefore considered traitorously unreliable. Some of this is understandable: the left-liberals in the blogosphere are merely aping the odious, disdainful—and politically successful—tone that right-wing radio talk-show hosts like Rush Limbaugh pioneered. They are also justifiably furious at a Bush White House that has specialized in big lies and smear tactics.
You and your magazine helped build this constituency, Joe. Own it. Be proud of it.
