I’ve been doing a lot of work on the LGF Blog code behind the scenes, so as always, if a feature doesn’t seem to be working correctly, the first thing to try is reloading the page. Bugs get fixed quickly, so reloading will often make all your problems disappear. Well, ...

If you experience any weirdness when trying to submit a link to our spinoff links, it’s because Stinky Beaumont and I are working on the plumbing again, to optimize the loading of page elements. In the meantime, here’s an open thread...
One feature readers have requested for our comment ratings is the ability to simply cancel a rating (aka, a “ding”) and remove a vote. The method that we’ve been using only allowed you to reverse your ding — in other words, you could only change your rating from plus to ...

By popular demand (actually by request of two or three people) the ratings for spinoff links can now be reversed, just like the ratings for comments and articles. And the ratings buttons now have those super keen CSS rollover effects as well.
The spinoff links redesign is complete, with styles to match the rest of the site. Gone are the clunky HTML tables, replaced by nice, clean, relatively semantic markup. Stinky Beaumont says they look like the kind of spinoff links his mom would have baked. But he had a weird mom. ...

The links posted by the LGF community now have their own RSS feed, through Feedburner; here’s the address: http://feeds.feedburner.com/LittleGreenL inks. There’s also a link to this feed in the left sidebar’s “Tools/Info” menu. The feed contains the last 50 links posted, in reverse chronological order. The title of each link ...

Extending our comment reporting feature to the spinoff links feature is a natural. Like comments, the links are content supplied by our users, and occasionally a link will be posted that is inappropriate for one reason or another and needs to be deleted. So, when you’re logged in to your ...
Today we have two enhancements to the spinoff links and top links: * Your user icon (or tiny football, if you haven’t uploaded an icon) is now a link to your profile page. * The time and date of the link are now shown in a “relative” format, for example, ...
The date range setting of the LinkViewer has been improved tonight. Now there’s only one field instead of two; when you click in the field (or click the little calendar icon) the popup calendar lets you select two dates — the “from” and “to” dates — and automatically reloads the ...

In the “Top Rated Links” area, you can now set how many links you want to display, from 5 to 25, in increments of 5. This value is saved in a cookie, along with the current category, the number of days, and the state of the link area (visible or ...

One of the issues I considered when implementing the ‘Top-Rated Links’ feature was: how far back should the feature look? A day, two days, more? After some experimentation I settled on one day as a reasonable interval. But this meant that comment threads and conversations would disappear from the listings, ...

With more than 10,000 links in the database already, less than a month after launch, it looks like the “spinoff links” feature is pleasing to the ravening bloodthirsty hounds of the lizard army. Since the click counter was developed and launched on January 16, we’ve recorded 122,200 total clicks on ...

The link entry forms now have a character counter, to let you know how close you’re getting to the maximum description size (like our comment entry form). And the description field has been made larger, by popular request. And here we have a shiny new thread on which to try ...

Links! Red hot! Get yer links here! There’s a new category in the link posting form: “Related to post.” Use this category when the link you’re posting is directly related to the LGF post that is its “parent.” “Related” links will show up first in the list, and their category ...

The spinoff links category drop own menu is acting screwy right now for some reason, but only in Internet Exploder, which is insisting that the menu doesn’t exist. It’s fine in all other browsers, of course. I’m working on that. In the meantime, another new feature has been added to ...

Here’s a sunny Saturday thread for links on any subject... Here’s a LinkViewer page for the links posted today, sorted by rating.

More new stuff in the LinkViewer: You can now pick a date range, using popup calendars to set the start and end dates. To pick the date, click either the input field or the little calendar icon, then use the popup calendar to navigate to the date you want, and ...

More enhancements to the LinkViewer tonight: * An option to sort by number of comments. * All form controls are live; you don’t have to click the “Filter” button to change categories, sort order, or links per page. * The look has been cleaned up and improved. * The description ...

Here we see the spinoff links thread in its natural habitat. LGF lizards can post links by clicking “Show Spinoff Links (xx)” (at bottom right of my post), and then using the entry form at the bottom of the links region. The description is limited to 2048 characters, and only ...

Now that we’re storing all of those groovy spinoff links, it’s a shame to have them all just scroll away and get lost, isn’t it? Since the top rated links area only shows a small selection of the many that are posted every day, we needed a better way to ...

Free links for life! Gitcher links here!
A new feature tonight in the top rated links: a clickable thingy that says, “descriptions.” If you click that little baby, the description for each link will magically expand right underneath the link, accordion-style. Click “descriptions” again, and the view will collapse again, hiding the descriptions. Some bugs have been ...

The latest enhancement to our spinoff links: if comments have been posted for a link, hovering over the comment number will cause a popup box to appear, showing the lizard name of the last commenter and an excerpt of the comment. UPDATE at 1/22/08 3:33:51 pm: And another new feature ...
