Allahpundit’s already comparing the edited and unedited versions of The Path to 9/11: “Path to 9/11” Update: Side-by-side comparison.
Here’s an open thread to discuss The Path to 9/11, showing tonight on ABC at 8 pm. (Which means readers on the east coast are already watching.) Remember that CBS also has a show worth watching, at the same time—the excellent documentary 9/11, by Jules and Gedeon Naudet.
I’ve got EyeTV set to record them both.
Redstate has posted the scene from The Path to 9/11 that’s got the nutroots and the DNC frothing and threatening in unison with such lovely obsessive fervor: ABC’s ‘Path to 9/11’: The Video Democrats DON’T WANT YOU TO SEE.
The Kos Kidz conspire to trick people looking for information on the ABC docudrama The Path to 9/11, by registering the domain “the pathsince911.com” and putting up a moonbat anti-Bush site: Daily Kos: I own ThePathSince911.com…
This isn’t illegal, of course. But it is sneaky and dishonest. It’s telling that the denizens of the left’s premier hate site are so consumed by their obsession to shut down the ABC show that they don’t even consider hiding their creepy little schemes.
Get a load of this one. The left is using every dirty trick and sneaky internet ploy in the book to shut down ABC’s The Path to 9/11, and here’s the latest.
Someone anonymously registered the domain name pathto911.com and installed a redirect that takes visitors looking for information on the movie to the Democratic Party’s anti-ABC page. (Hat tip: Robin.)
Here’s the genuine web site: ABC.com: The Path to 9/11.
Entertainment trade journal Variety says ABC may be about to cancel “The Path to 9/11” altogether.
Bill Clinton loyalists are demanding wholesale changes to the upcoming miniseries — and while ABC is making some snips, the alterations, insiders say, may not please the Dems.
But a bombshell decision may happen anyway: Sources close to the project say the network, which has been in a media maelstrom over the pic, is mulling the idea of yanking the mini altogether.
The Democratic establishment is really frightened of the effect of ABC’s docudrama The Path to 9/11 on the American public—so frightened that Senators Reid, Durbin, Stabenow, Schumer, and Dorgan issued a veiled threat against Disney’s broadcast license today. (Hat tip: Allahpundit.)
UPDATE at 9/7/06 5:56:47 pm:
The Daily Kos front page (on a day when a video is released showing two of the 9/11 hijackers with Osama bin Laden) is utterly obsessed with shutting down the ABC show—one post after another.
UPDATE at 9/7/06 6:16:06 pm:
ABC has caved in to the Democratic whining, and edited The Path to 9/11: ABC alters 9/11 show under pressure. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)
The network has in recent days made changes to the film, set to air Sunday and Monday, after leading political figures, many of them Democrats, complained about bias and alleged inaccuracies. Meanwhile, a left-wing organization [aka, the Democratic Party —ed.] has launched a letter-writing campaign urging the network to “correct” or dump the miniseries, while conservative blogs have launched a vigorous defense.
“The Path to 9/11,” whose large ensemble includes Harvey Keitel and Patricia Heaton, offers a panoramic sweep of the events leading up to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The movie dramatizes what it deems intelligence and operational failures of the Clinton and Bush administrations, relying heavily on public records. Thomas Kean, the chairman of the 9/11 commission, served as a consultant.
After a screening of the first episode in Washington last week, some audience members attacked the film’s depiction of the Clinton administration’s pursuit of Osama bin Laden. Among those unhappy was Richard Ben-Veniste, an attorney and member of the 9/11 commission whom some conservatives have dismissed as a Democratic attack dog. Richard A. Clarke, the former counterterrorism czar, has criticized the movie for suggesting that the Clinton administration was in a position to capture Bin Laden in 1998 but canceled the mission at the last minute.
After much discussion, ABC executives and the producers toned down, but did not eliminate entirely, a scene that involved Clinton’s national security advisor, Samuel R. “Sandy” Berger, declining to give the order to kill Bin Laden, according to a person involved with the film who declined to be identified because of the sensitivities involved.
“That sequence has been the focus of attention,” the source said, adding: “These are very slight alterations.”
As we wrote earlier, the Council on American Islamic Relations is attempting to whitewash the history of 9/11.
Disgracefully, so is the Democratic Party.
Here’s the page at their web site where they solicit members to complain to ABC about the docudrama The Path to 9/11 (without having seen it): Keep ‘Path to 9/11’ Propaganda Film Off The Air.
Notice that there is a space on this form for your own comments. I urge LGF readers to use this form to add comments supporting ABC’s courage for tackling the issues head-on, and requesting that ABC ignore the complaints and run the movie unedited.
If you don’t want to use the Democratic Party’s form, you can send a message of support to ABC directly at this page: ABC.com - Contact ABC.
And I wish to thank the Democratic Party for making their agenda so crystal clear. This gambit is going to seriously backfire on them.
UPDATE at 9/7/06 8:34:59 am:
From all accounts, by the way, the film is not soft on the Bush administration either. But only the Democrats are seething and whining and demanding that the film be censored. There’s plenty of blame to go around for the failures that led to 9/11, but the DNC’s response to having their failures pointed out is highly revealing.
