Spanish Muslims Fear Bigotry

Sun, Mar 14, 2004 at 2:12:36 pm PST

As Spain’s socialist party vows to remove all Spanish troops from Afghanistan and Iraq, and the Spanish people take a shocking and disheartening turn toward appeasement, Spanish Muslims exhibit once again that unsettling, off key response to the attacks by their radical Islamic brethren: Reprisal fears running high.

Proof that al-Qaeda or other Islamic militants carried out the Madrid bombings would create a nightmare for Muslim residents of Madrid, who fear it could fuel a new wave of animosity towards them.

“Terrorism is blind, it simply seeks out the weakest people,” said Ahmed, 38, a Moroccan who has lived in the Spanish capital for 13 years.

“We’re victims too, and if it turns out to be al-Qaeda, we’ll be double victims.” ...

Those most willing in Lavapies to express fears that al-Qaeda was to blame came from non-Muslim countries.

“Not all Basques belong to ETA, nor all Arabs to al-Qaeda. But if it turns out that al-Qaeda is behind this tragedy, people will turn against the Arabs around here,” said Gema, a shop assistant whose family is from Vietnam.

If Muslim extremists planted the bombs, the prejudices of old Spain - isolated under a dictatorship for almost 40 years until 1975 and relatively unused to immigrant residents until recently - could surface.

As it turns out, they needn’t have worried.

As demonstrated by an overwhelming endorsement of surrender...

Muslims would have less to fear if atrocities weren't followed by scenes of Muslims celebrating around the world, or moaning about how terrorists are motivated by the sins of the infidels against them. Get with the program, act a little civilized, condemn the terrorists who hide behind the Koran and maybe the backlash will miss you.

Right, seeing as how you are alive and all. It must really suck to be a "victim".

OT: I'm just watching Socialist Spiegel TV, who are broadcasting a report on Islamofascism - uncommented, of course. It's the perfect propaganda. A female speaker just said to a militarily-trained group of young girls: "You girls will have eight to twelve children trained in the spirit of Islam. Islam will conquer the world. We women can contribute to that, we can do much. [...] A woman can even travel to space - if she wears a hijab."

Sure.

Note to the mainstream moderate RoPers of the world:

When your homicidal fanatic fascist brethren commit mass murder, would you please stop worrying about our bigoted reactions and start worrying about cleaning out your own goddamn house.

Assuming you really are innocent, you are like the owner of a rabid dog that is always getting out of the house and biting the neighbors. The neighbors have called the police numerous times, and the police just come and warn both sides not to resort to violence and urge the parties to work it out. You always say you will restrain the dog but you never do. Now your dog has mauled the neighbor's children playing in the yard, and rather than call the police, the neighbors are loading shotguns and lighting torches.

stop bitching about the neighbors and put the damn dog to sleep!

Greek Police Locate, Destroy Bomb in Athens

"There was a controlled explosion of a bag placed near the Citibank after we were told it would go off in 35 minutes," a police official said.

...

Police found two sticks of dynamite, a clock and a detonator in the remains of the bag and a police source said the bomb was not sophisticated but was powerful enough to cause "death and damage."
8 LET ISRAEL WIN  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 12:29:26pm

wow, the muslims have really got their PR shtick down. we have much to learn from these "peace" loving people.

9 rebmiami  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 12:29:52pm

Parable continued:

The more your "negligence" continues, the more we the neighbors start understandably thinking you are either doing it on purpose or are pleased with results. Either that or you are much more afraid of the dog than the neighbors. By oiling their shotguns, the neighbors may be doing you a favor and realigning your priorities in a healthy way by refocusing your fear. The West (i.e., the neighbors) didn't give the dog's masters any cause for concern from 1979-2000. The police (UN) are worse than useless.

It was - if anything - propaganda to paint the Muslim bogeyman, you mean? It was a quite damning report - the questions asked and the captions spoke for themselves - talking about killing non-believers and naming their kids after Osama? Being asked if they really could look their child in the eye and tell them "Yes, I am going to sacrifice you"? You think this will fly well with the German audience?

I think I'm going to be sick. Every time the RoPers pull off a mass murder, We get quotes like this. No condemnation, just a bunch of bullshit about how the poor muslims are being slandered and repressed or how this is bad for islam. unfreakinbelievable.

Who cares? And coming from those bigots I really don't care. I wish they'd stop whining already, it's getting on my nerves.

13 Andjam  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 12:53:33pm

Ahmed's comments about terrorism seeking out weak victims is a lot closer to the money than most academics' analysis.

Hey, is there any info about what the Socialists plan to do via-a-vis Iraq and Afganistan? Have they actually stated that they plan to withdraw?

16 ploome  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 1:07:50pm

this seems to be the scenario

muslim terrorists slaughter non muslims in non muslim countries,( where they have found asylum and welfare benefits.)

muslims living in non muslim countries 'fear reprisals'

self fulfilling prophesy and projecting what would happen in their culture and muslim countires

muslims interpret blank look as himiliating and hateful

muslims riot at discrimination because prayer room isn't installed in every retail shop

muslims insist the country and people apologise for being wary/suspicious of muslims wearing ski masks

.......ad nauseum

I think they said they'll withdraw troops from Iraq if the UN doesn't take control on June 30 (handover date). Not sure about Afghanistan.

19 cereal_quiller  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 1:25:51pm

If Spain was smart, they would make moslems fear reprisal. All moslems in non-moslem countries should be forced out. They want acceptance in non-moslem countries, but deny even tolerance anywhere they go. If they have there way, the plan of slow demographic expansionism will supplant the Europeans and they win.

Scary.

I would be more than happy to see a Spanish Inquisition targetted at mohammedans alone....to the last devil worshipping one.

20 I wish the moderate muslims would speak out  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 1:29:27pm

Where are the MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of modertae Muslims these days ???- they NEED to raise their voices against their MUSLIM BROTHERS who are murdering not only innocent children abroad but their own brethren and kin in the Middle East and are forcing the MUSLIM people all over the globe to stay back in the 16 th century and be the diminutive race they truel are. If these moderate muslims insist of keeping quiet for much longer.............

The way things are going - with the frustration of all healthy democratic people everywhere - a good old NUCLEAR BOMB in say Syria or Iran or SAUDI Arabia would do a WORLD of good right now - and blow the Muslim filth of the face of the earth! It is their bed - let them sleep in it - right next to the pile of camel shit!

Nuff said.

Despite all the fears that some horrible anti-Islamic backlash is going to occur after atrocities such as the one in Spain, it never materializes---and no, don't tell me that "mean looks", not letting girls wear head scarves, snide comments, blah, blah, blah, adds up to real persecution. If anything, the west has been bending over backwards, trying to be sensitive and understanding.

(Speaking of sensitivity, when is Gordon going to pop up, telling us how we baying jackals are showing our anit-moslem prejudice, and being mean to Kerry, too?)

The Jews though, all over the world, have had to face synagogues being burned, beatings, being blammed for Israel's sins, whether real or imaginary (and it's mostly imaginary), and an antisemetism as virulent as anything out of the 30's. You never hear much about this in the papers, though, and you never have pundits telling us how we should learn to understand Judaism, or telling us how it's natural for the Jews, who have been treated as pariahs for centuries, to want their own country, so they wouldn't have to put up with everybody else's garbage, so we should understand, and not judge, and---and---and---

Media bias? Naaaaaah. . .

22 Andrew Ian Dodge  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 2:20:58pm

Yes, but if Al Queda planted those bombs surely they are the ones holding old prejudices. After all, they are bitter about the fact Islam was kicked out of the Iberian Peninsula in 1492 after la Reconquista.

23 torchy  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 2:23:43pm

Muslims fear reprisals? Is it because of the nasty coincidence that the 3-11 bombings were 911 days after the 9-11 attacks?

24 Torchy, amazing!  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 2:44:07pm

"Muslims fear reprisals? Is it because of the nasty coincidence that the 3-11 bombings were 911 days after the 9-11 attacks? "

Wow! Torchy this is amazing! Actually, 910 when I put it in a date calculator but still amazing. I had not thought of this and I haven't seen it anywhere in press reports.

They don't hit us right now because they know what would hit them in return. With Spain, they're safe. But with the instant gratification that the Spanish electorate has given them, a lot more Euro-dhimmis are going to die.

25 Leo  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 2:46:50pm

It's too bad that the Spaniards pulled the Roberto Duran today. Waving your hands in the air, holding demonstrations calling for "Peace," and finally saying "No Mas" with their vote today, shows you that most, (ok... all), of Europe has no stomach for this. Unfortunately, closing the door to the sheep pen does you no good when the wolf is already inside.

This morning, on a local talk-radio religion show, the priest and rabbi who host it both concluded, reluctantly, that Muslims, by their silence, signal their agreement with Islamic terrorism.

28 YOKO  Sun, Mar 14, 2004 4:08:45pm

Yep, the Jews bombed the King David Hotel didn't they? Also recall them bombing and strafing the USS Liberty and the good ol' U.S of A doing damn all about it! Not too many Spanish tears for the atrocities committed by their army in Nth Africa against Arabs.

It's very unlikely that the Spanish Muslim community as a whole, or as a significant minority, was involved in the terrorist attack, never mind supportive of it or culpable as individuals.

A question to the Socialist victors of the Spanish Elections

With the Victory of the Socialist opposition in Spain, the talk is about bringing home all the Spanish troops from Iraq. The blame for the train bombings in Madrid is being laid on the Spanish policy of joining the USA and UK in the fight against Islamic terrorism.

The socialists need to understand that even if they withdraw from the anti-terror alliance, Spain (and the entire Western world – in fact the entire non-Muslim world) will still be attacked by the Jihadis. The Jihadis are not attacking you because you are in the alliance, but because they are told by their Instruction manual of terrorism – the Quran – to attack you! And attack you they will, even if you withdraw from the alliance.

You need to remember the famous quotation "When they (Nazis) came for the democrats, I did not speak out against the Nazis; When they came for the socialists, I did not speak out against the Nazis; When they came for the Jews, I did not speak out against the Nazis; When they came for me, there was nobody to speak out against the Nazis for me!"

If you Socialists think you can buy peace with the Jihadis, then you are living in a fools paradise. This may stave off attacks for some time, but the Jihadis will attack everyone eventually, be you a capitalist, imperialist, socialist, communist or anyone else…they will attack you as long as you are not a Muslim. The best bet for the socialists to prevent attacks on Spain is to convert all Spaniards to Islam - are you socialists willing to do that to prevent further Jihadi attacks on yourself (in Spain and wherever you rule)?

36 FabioC.  Mon, Mar 15, 2004 1:27:39am

To be fair, I want to point out that a "No to terrorism" banner is being shown at Madrid's mosque.

37 Will J.  Mon, Mar 15, 2004 12:30:49pm

Fabio , fairs fair but who did they vote for ?

38 Sasha  Mon, Mar 15, 2004 2:22:27pm

Hold it: it's not a majority of Spaniards who capitulated! Bitterly disappointed as I am, let's keep things in perspective: the Socialists didn't get a majority (and only 42% of people voted for them - the PP got 38%). Also, it's my hope that as more al-Qaida attacks continue that even those "Socialist" morons will wake up!

Too bad, but war is war: if I had my way, not only would ALL Muslims (including their kids and relatives) be deported from the West; we'd also cut all ties with them (no foreign aid, no oil, nothing to do with them). Also: the next time they do an attack on our interests in any way, I would 1st nuke Medina as a single warning; the 2nd time Mecca (both with hydrogen bombs!!!!). Also, anybody who wants to convert to Islam should be summarily executed with no warning whatsoever (and this law shouldn't be published if at all possible). Sorry, but sometimes democracy can really be its own worst enemy!
