Al-Sadr: Martyr Me, Please

Tue, Apr 13, 2004 at 7:53:25 am PDT

More death cult rhetoric from Muqtada al-Sadr: Iraq’s Sadr Says Ready to Die for Anti-U.S. Drive.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Shi’ite Muslim cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, wanted by U.S.-led forces in Iraq, said Tuesday he was willing to die for his campaign to end their occupation.

But the radical preacher also appeared to leave the door open to negotiation, saying his only demand was to keep foreign troops out of the holy city of Najaf, where he himself is based.

“I am ready to sacrifice (myself) and I call on the people not to allow my death to cause the collapse of the fight for freedom and an end to the occupation,” Sadr told Lebanon’s al-Manar television, run by the Shi’ite Hizbollah group.

Sadr, whose Mehdi Army militia has confronted occupation forces including Polish, British and Italian troops, urged non-American soldiers to distance themselves from U.S. leadership “and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Iraqi people.”

“Fight for freedom.” “End to the occupation.” These statements are not intended for the mujahideen, who are clued in to the code words. They’re intended to evoke the usual Pavlovian reaction of the Western left and Western media. (What? There’s a difference?) Reuters obliges with this article, characterizing al-Sadr’s violent attempt to seize power, with no quotes or any other indication of skepticism, as a “campaign to end [the] occupation.”

If we do succeed in taking out this thug, how long before we see protesters marching through San Francisco with signs reading, “Avenge Al-Sadr?”

Dr. Khan (channeling Kirk in Wrath of Khan), has said he's personally inspected at least three North Korean nukes at a secret underground facility.

The visit took place back in 1998 - 5 years ago.

That was during Clinton's mindtrip to the groovy days when the North was supposedly working under the Agreed Framework. Great times, they were.

23 My 2 Sense  Tue, Apr 13, 2004 6:17:22am

Opinion piece in the WSJ today by Walid Phares and Robert G. Rabil, "Resistance Myths," suggests the reason for this nonsense:

"In the absence of a shared identity of resistance [Significantly, the Iraqis did not liberate their country for themselves.], religious solidarity could easily become the basis for many anti-Western Iraqis to create a new identity based on fighting the coalition. This explains the appeal of Muqtada al-Sadr's movement to radical Iraqi Sunnis and shatters the view that Sunnis will not collaborate with insurgent Shiites, and vice versa. Herein lies the danger for the U.S., especially if hostility against coalition forces becomes synonymous with a rehabilitation of Iraqi pride."

What is it with these people and their over-inflated (and much undeserved) sense of national ego? They suffered atrocious oppression under Saddam for more than two decades, then when someone tries to come in a help them - since they'd demonstrated their inability/unwillingness to help themselves - they're going to prove their mettle and valor by biting the hand that feeds them (or, more accurately, blowing it off the body it's attached to, burning the whole thing and then hanging it from bridges).

Some guy named Gabe emailed me and whined about weather updates. Besides, I don't know where you live.

However, rest assured that my minor compulsive disorder concerning weather will make me unable to resist posting next time a big tornado outbreak heads for the Plains, a hurricane develops in the Atlantic, or an earthquake smacks Missouri, California or Alaska. I'd be posting big time about the floods headed for New York/New England, but I don't wanna make "Gabe" mad at me.

Of course, the golfball sized hail I wouldn't bother mentioning if it falls in South Dakota would get a mention if it happens in New York or Texas. South Dakota et al need at least grapefruit hail before I start posting here about it.

I wonder if Charles has a PIMP* hat and fur coat yet.

32 grayp  Tue, Apr 13, 2004 6:26:52am

This is OT, but I promised I would post as soon as I got any information.

Last week Charles posted an email rec'd by Ms Esti Sherbolis, the Public Relations Coordinator for the Israeli Medical Assn. The email provided information she had requested from mediconf on an upcoming conference in San Diego and then in a series of p.s and pps wrote some truly vile anti-Semetic filth. In a followup, also posted by Charles, Ms. Sherbolis confirmed that the author, a Reinald Steck had admitted to it.

But I was hesitant to lay blame based on an assertion with no evidence. Charles gave me Ms. Sherbolis' email and Reinald Steck's was available via the mediconf site.

I emailed Steck and copied Ms. Sherbolis, noting what he was being accused of and providing the relevant links to LGF. I heard nothing for over 48 hours. I then emailed Ms. Sherbolis, copying Charles, asking her for clarification.

She has provided it. This was in my email this morning.

---

Dear Ms. Gray,

I referred to Reinald Steck as the author, who later offered some sort of apology to all those who wrote to him (please see below). However, the company president, wrote the following, which is laughable considering that he is related to the offender. Other people have received emails from him that the company is closed, however this has also turned out to be untrue.

Please feel free to contact me if you need more information.

Dear Madam or Sir,

A copy of an unauthorized e-mail sent in the name of our company is making the rounds on the internet.

We oppose absolutely the content of this email and apologize to anyone who has received this email and may feel violated through its content.

We will take every measure to make sure that no such incident will take place again.

Please accept my apologies.

Dr. Rudolf Steck
(President Fairbase Database Ltd)

To all it may concern,

The e-mail I sent dated March 30 to (esti's email - removed by grayp) regarding 'Conferences
in San Diego' was a terrible mistake.

What I did was wrong. I did not mean what I wrote.

Please accept my sincerest apologies.

I am very sorry for all the pain I caused!

Kind regards
Reinald Steck

---

Ms Sherbolis also copied Charles on her email to me, so he can verify if there are any other questions.

Personally, I am satisfied that the situation is as it was portrayed originally.

OT

Last night in the UK, Channel 4 screened a 90 minute documentary following various UK shia muslims as they prepared for this year's Ashura.

Talk about jaw-dropping.

When the explosions happened the reaction was essentially one of "These things always happen to us."
They gave the ambulances some time to ferry the dead and wounded away then recommenced the celebrations. At the end of the day the UK visitors were ecstatic about how great the whole thing had been. They did fell sorry for the martyrs but were sure God had set aside a place in paradise for them.

Strangely the chants from the night before the explosions were all about how they wouldn't be colonised but also that terrorism would not affect the unity of the Iraqi people.

So the Shia get more holidays/festivals during the year than the just the two Eids (end of Bombadon and the commemoration of the son of Abraham who wasn't even offered as a sacrifice).

The whipping yourself bloody thing doesn't sound cool to me, but based on the extra holidays, if I had to be a Muslim, I guess I'd be Shia.

I still don't think I wanna be a Muslim, however.

Hungary Foils Alleged Plot Vs. Israeli (as listed on my.yahoo.com
[Link: story.news.yahoo.com...]

The inside headlines reads:
Hungary Foils Alleged Jewish Museum Plot

The real story is that Arab terrorists were trying to kill Moshe Katsav, the Israeli President. But what does AP use in its headlines? No reference to a head of state or his importance, just any ordinary Israeli in one headline, and no mention of the assassination plot in the other - which is more focused on property than personal safety.

Nice.

Mississauga Matt- I have mixed feelings about the Kahdr family. For one thing the only son surviving in good health is the one who publically denounced Al Aqaeda, like American culture, cooperated with the Americans, refused to become a suicide bomber, refused to train himself in Bin Laden's camps, and publically claims his family was brainwashed by his father a Bin Laden supporter. Part of his goal in bringing his family here, he states, is to debrainwash them.

I also felt kind of sorry for her when she got off the airplane and started crying while facing so much well deserved hatred and she denied she had anything to do with Al Qaeda, clearly a lie of course, but she was so pathetic and scared.

In some ways they serve as a fine example for other Muslims. One daughter was married and divorced several times and effectively passed around the camps by Bin Laden's men only one step above common whore. One son is dead. One son is a paraplegic. One son is in Gitmo. Her husband is dead. The only surviving son still whole is the "shame of the family", the one who renounced Al Qaeda and who refused to become a suicide bomber because he prefered watching American movies and chasing girls. He is now officially head of the Khadr household as eldest son and the mother, if she follows the position of the Al Qaeda endicts on women, must defer in all matters to this son who has renounced everything she stood for as does the paraplegic son.

I think if the son continues making public denounciations of Al Qaeda and uses his eldest son authority to inflict some attitude changes, the family should be able to stay, very closely monitored by CSIS of course. The family can stand as an example of what happens to people who play with terrorists.

Seems to me, we need more Muslims in Canada like Abdulrachman Kadhr who refused to be suicide bomber.

All of the above is, of course, predicated on the idea that he isn't lying anymore. Which is, of course, a big if.

Yesterday Ralph Peters had an excellent piece in the New York Post "Drop the Hammer Now!" which I posted on a thread late yesterday but some may have missed. He advocates that the US go in and get this weasel if he's in a mosque and kill him and I agree with him wholeheartedly. No little getaways to Iran to come again another day and make mayhem.

[Link: www.nypost.com...]

Today the London Free Press also had a very good piece, "Iraqi Shiite militia pulls back"; I think the Shiites are getting the message but for how long. Unless they are defeated utterly, they will renew the fight months, years later. The only way to stop this absolutely is to utterly defeat the Militia and kill al-Sadr then make Iran and Syria very, VERY sorry for all the trouble they've caused.

Daniel Pipes has a well reasoned but somehow suprising recommendation:

I therefore counsel the occupying forces quickly to leave Iraqi cities and then, when feasible, to leave Iraq as a whole. They should seek out what I have been calling for since a year ago: a democratically-minded Iraqi strongman, someone who will work with the coalition forces, provide decent government, and move eventually toward a more open political system.
