-RetweetLovely Surprise for Lovely People

Sun, May 30, 2004 at 9:51:06 am PDT

When the webmasters at Hatzolah Jerusalem discovered that a group of Arab sites had linked directly to one of the photographs on their web site—as part of a sick little “slideshow” gloating over dead and grieving Jews—they arranged a lovely surprise for the death junkies.

A day later, the Einsteins who run these sites still haven’t figured it out:

almjlah.com
shorog.com
alwifaq.net
egyfilm.com
alsaha.fares.net
qal3ah.net

UPDATE: Lebanese LGF reader Photoblogger provides translations of the comments at one of the sites linked above, gloating over the pictures of Israeli death and grief with vampirish delight:

1. Lifts the spirits and quenches the thirst

2. May God make them cry blood and make sorrow their constant companion

3. congrats brother, pictures that gladden the heart and quench the thirst. May god let muslims and islam win

4.god bless you brother, pictures that gladden the heart. may god let there remain not one of them.

6. thanks, brother, looking forward to see these scenes repeated every day soon god willing.

That is the best picture of Yassin I have ever seen. (Ha, ha. I made a rhyme.)

This gruesome picture is a wonderful addition to the linked websites. Nice work. I guess the IDF blew up a few more "religion of peace" "masterminds" today as they rode on a motorbike.

The news is only getting hairier everyday. But this put a nice smile on my face.

I hate those primitives. I didn't start out hating them. I don't want to hate them. I can't even see Arabic letters without getting pissed off. Yassin was a punk. Not a holy punk, just a punk.

Moderate Islam, now would be the time to pull your own weeds before we must move to the Round Up approach.

The relationship between GWB and his doormat followers is hardly unlike that between George-the-Third and the Loyalists. If you people want monarchy, then move to Saudi Arabia. Grow some fucking backbone.

The way these vile scum gloat over the misery of people who have lost innocent, unarmed loved ones to Arab/Muslim murderers is appalling and nauseating. In the meantime, the I.D.F. and Israeli government apologize publicly when they accidentally (not purposely, like these degenerates) kill civilians.

It still sickens me.

OT: Charm offensive against Muslim extremists

Tony Blair has stressed the need to keep the Muslim community on side as a leaked document revealed a project to "win the hearts and minds" of Islamic extremists and al Qaeda sympathisers...

Moderate Muslim preachers would receive state funding under the plan, while radical foreign imams would be asked to pledge allegiance to the British way of life or face a ban, the paper said, claiming to have seen over 100 pages of secret documents.

"The aim is to prevent terrorism by tackling its underlying causes...to diminish support for terrorists by influencing relevant social and economic issues," cabinet secretary Sir Andrew Turnbull was quoted as saying in a letter prior to a May 19 meeting to discuss "Contest".

The project is said to have been prompted by the March 11 attacks on Madrid commuter trains, killing 191 people, and the discovery of over half a ton of bomb-making material in a London warehouse two weeks later.

"Muslim-friendly workplaces" could be set up, along with moderate Muslim television and radio stations

I do not know the answer, but I fear that we cannot. And, I feel constrained to lay some of the blame at the feet of President Bush. His Pentagon hides away our honored dead at Dover air base, as though we should be ashamed of them. He does not call upon those of us who are too old to serve to make other sacrifices. He tries to avoid huring anybodys feelings by denying that this war is a clash of civilizations and cultures, not a border dispute. Indeed, I cannot name one thing Bush has done that seems intended to restore the martial virtues.

The massacre of Western Workers in saudi arabia is still covered by the saudi censorship fog.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Saudi's themselves set this up so they could like a broken record say "look, the terrorists are after us too. After all we have done to help in the war on terror...we will continue to do more." (If this were not so tragic I would laugh)They want to pull the wool over the eyes of the world to show how they are as vulnerable as anyone to terror. Right, the Saudi's are one of the greatest incubators of terror on the planet. When I hear how much they have contributed I want to scream.

Amid a sequence of photos of Israelis crying at funerals is a photo of Ahmed Yassin's corpse, with the following text printed on top of the picture:

All six sites crash my browser. What am I missing ?

A bunch of arab sites created a pornographic slide show of Israeli families grieving at funerals. But rather than grabbing copies of the images and hosting them on their own servers, they embedded links to the originals. (This is known in the trade as "bandwidth theft" in that you are consuming the host's bandwidth without the advertising/context/etc that the person who is paying for the hosting site put up to accompany the image.) The picture that they linked to at Hatzolah Jerusalem has been replaced (by the Hatzolah Jerusalem webmasters) by a nasty close up of Ahmed Yassin's blown-up rotting face, with a caption "So may all of G-d's enemies perish. Ahmed Yassin, murderer who met his fitting end."

I agree -- the only thing that made this less than perfect was that the caption was not in arabic...

Too bad they didn't use the shot of Yassin's brains in the garbage bag!

42 angeles  Sun, May 30, 2004 8:58:46am

This has happened before, so many times it's ridiculous.

Here's one:

"It happened when Sanballat and Tobiah, and the Arabs and the Ammonites and the Ashdodites heard that the walls of Jerusalem were being healed, that the breaches had begun to be sealed, they grew extremely angry. So they all banded together to come and do battle in Jerusalem, and to bring ruin upon it. So we prayed to our G-d, and we set up a guard over, by day and by night." Nehemyah 4:1-3.

Hey, this was approximately 510 BCE. It's from the Tanach (Jewish bible). Guess what? With G-d's help, the Jews won. The Jews won.

Avi, you should also see a pig picture of a dead Ahmed Yassin with the caption "So may all God's enemies perish. Ahmed Yessin, murderer who met his fitting end."

Good strike by Hatzola. I'm still trying to get around the fact that these Arab sites posted photos of grieving Jews as a celebration.

To see all the American companies advertizing on the Egyptian site was infuriating. Sticking out like a sore thumb?

If you're talking about the EgyFilm site, those banners are not advertisements for US products, they are for boycotting US products.

The banner with the US and Israeli flags says:

"Don't give them your money so they can fight/kill you with it"
The banner with the product logos (nike, coke, KFC, heinz, etc) says:

"Boycott [alternating images of US products] ... If you are unable to purchase a bullet for the resistance, at least don't pay the cost of a bullet to the Jews"

It was not my first thought, either. However, on Hebrew sites, it is also the left side. (I can't read it, but a sabra friend sends me sites that are all humor, and thus self-explanatory, and since Hebrew is written from right to left, you scroll on the left. They even copied that from the Jews...

I wonder how long it will take them to figure out how to remove that bit of Israeli humor!

Let's see...they 'invented' homicide bombers, burkas, targetting, aiming and shooting at Israeli babies and pregnant mothers who are driving a car, block parties with the requisite sweets, rifles shot into the ait, ululating, and anything else that any posters might care to add to the list...I feel like puking right now, so hand it off to the rest of oyu, and perhaps we might get a more complete list to make a final compilation.

9/11 I don't want to get started on, but in their version of a mind that takes pride of place...so far.

Thank you so much for clearing that up. I wonder how many of the companies they are requesting a boycott are actually in the arab marketplace, though.

I've missed that one since most of the hebrew sites I read still scroll on the right.

They even copied that from the Jews...

you're sooo right...if they can't manage to figure out how to host their own images, have no clue their sites are duped, how could they possibly have the ingenuity to create the left scroll bar on their own?

And since we all know albore invented the internet, what is left for them?

OT, but worthwhile:

The Case Against Rachel Corrie St. Pancake

Maybe, just maybe, Rachel Corrie knowingly aided and abetted cold-blooded murderers.

Many of you will probably call me naive and roll over having belly-laughs. It took me long enough, right?

When Corrie died more than a year ago, it was no great stretch to suspect that she and others who converged on Israel's territories knowingly supported terrorists. There was certainly no proof and it was just as difficult to figure out any hard connection.

At the time, my chief objection to Corrie and her pals with the International Solidarity Movement was their interference with Israeli military activities. Most are foreigners who endanger lives by the simple act of stepping foot into the middle of a war zone. They put the lives of everyone - themselves, Israeli troops and the Arabs they purport to help - at risk in an already tense and volatile situation.

There have been political means at their disposal to address their concerns for the last few years, but they have not bothered to employ them.

The raid on Rafah brings new facts to light indicating that Corrie and other ISM members had to know they were aiding and abetting terrorists, if they were not participating in terrorism themselves.

The 23-year-old Corrie, who traveled more than 8,000 miles from Olympia, Washington, was run over by a bulldozer when she tried to block the vehicle from demolishing a house in Rafah - a house where she had been staying.

The Israeli military ruled that this was an accident and ISM members accused the driver of murder even before the military could investigate the incident.

It may pass the "reasonable person" test that these ISM'ers knew very well they were helping terrorists. What would a reasonable person conclude?

Consider: The Israeli government revealed that 90 weapons-smuggling tunnels were constructed between the Egyptian border and Rafah. At least some of these tunnels were known to end underneath the homes in Rafah.

With 90 tunnels running underneath Rafah, there must have been lots of suspicious activity. Corrie and her friends would have had to be blind not to notice.

First, there are the tunnel connections underneath the homes. ISM'ers who stayed with Gazan families might have seen the tunnels themselves, or they at least spotted people going back and forth from the basement of the home.

During deliveries, people would have been hauling the goods out of the homes. Maybe Corrie herself did some heavy lifting.

The weapons then had to be transported somehow. Vehicles appear to be the natural choice. They would have had to be driven to the tunnel entrances and the weapons would need to be loaded onto the trucks.

Would you wonder about this kind of activity if you were personally on the scene?

Wherever ISM members mingled and even lived among Gaza and West Bank Arabs, it is possible that many of these Arabs were terrorists or helped the terrorists by feeding and housing them. The ISM'ers could have been at gatherings where they were introduced to suspected terrorists, heard stories about violent activities or noticed otherwise suspicious activity.

Actually, there is not only evidence, but proof of ISM aiding and abetting terrorists. When terrorists seized a church in Bethlehem, a few ISM'ers smuggled food to them.

If you put it all together, a reasonable person must conclude that the ISM members knew they were aiding and abetting terrorists...

...since Hebrew is written from right to left, you scroll on the left...

Somewhat OT, but to launch a religious war on a really important topic, the right-side scroller on left-to-right text (and the left-side scroller on right-to-left text) are totally stupid bad UI design.

This was a mistake that apple made in the original mac UI, and since microsoft is so stupid and unoriginal that they copy even the mistakes, it's in windoze, too. There are other windowing systems that have the scroll bar over next to the beginning of the page, and if you've ever used one you will realize that the other side is just wrong.

Probably the most widely used of the non-mac, non-windoze systems was the old NeXT system, which was written by ex-apple UI engineers. They had the opportunity to start with a clean slate and fix all of the mistakes that they had made with the mac UI, and putting the scroll on the other side was one of the first things that they did. What it does is make the scroll bar just never a problem. If something happens and the page ends up too wide for what you want, and it has a big blank space on the right, then you just shove the window over and ignore the off-screen blank stuff. Your scroller is over nestled against the text. None of this crap where you have to drag the window in one direction to get access to the resize button, and then resize, and then drag it back so that you can see the scroller and the text all at once. If a window is too wide, you can often just ignore it since there is nothing important over there. Unlike in a mac/windoze window where there is always something important over there -- the scroller.

(I can also blather on at great length as to why NeXTstep's vertical menus are so superior to the stupid motif-style that macs and windoze have. But one religious war at a time, please!)

A quick comment: the photos were posted to the discussion forums at those web sites, so the site administrators may not be closely monitoring them.

On the four sites that I can access, the posts were signed with different names, but the subject line is similar:

"Photos to restore the spirit and satiate the thirst (for revenge)"

Could be one person spamming several sites.

The most favourable comments to the photos are on the qal3ah site, with posters thanking the original poster for the refreshing photos etc. (qal3ah = fortress, perhaps a play on words re qaida = base?)

use Mozilla, Netscape7, or Opera. Disable Java and Javascript. Sometimes poorly-designed sites don't display properly, but you never have to worry about your browser crashing.

(I have a hard time understanding why anyone uses IE any more -- browsing the web with IE is about as safe as walking around in Gaza with an Israeli flag.)

folks, you can help save lives. if you can spare some change, click the link below:

Hatzolah's success in saving lives is dependent on the dedication of hundreds of volunteers who respond to emergency calls around the clock under the most trying of human conditions. Our volunteers in turn rely on the quality and reliability of the medical equipment they have at their disposal. In order to perform at their optimum, each volunteer must be equipped with state of the art instruments necessary to save a victim's life in the harsh conditions that may arise during an emergency. The types of equipment needed can be divided into three broad categories: Transportation, Communications and Life-support.

The list which appears below are the minimum "tools of trade" and they need to be constantly updated and replenished to meet our growing needs. Please review this list thoughtfully and consider how you might wish to become active and real partners in the life-saving activities of Hatzolah Jerusalem. The dollar value attached to each item is the cost of purchase in Israel. Your contribution is tax deductible in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Holland, and Israel. A receipt will be sent via regular mail.

Is there a button on your monitor that looks like a lightning bolt or something like that?

120 shine  Sun, May 30, 2004 4:37:45pm

No lightning bolt button. But the power cord has that cylinder on it which, I guess, is supposed to do the degaussing automatically.

Would a "degaussing problem" cause the monitor to go black after showing the screen for only about a second? I thought it would only create rainbows on the screen.

Is this caused by a build up of static electricity/ions? If so will keeping the monitor off for a while help.

Thanks.

121 Geepers  Sun, May 30, 2004 4:47:43pm

Shine, Lots of high frequencies buzzing around in a monitor.

Works fine and then blacks out? Could it be over heated?

Do you have access to another monitor (preferably multi-sync) that you can swap it with to see where the problem lies? About the only way to know for sure.

I wrote to all4israel and asked them to rename or redirect the funeral photos...and they responded back and have since taken down the funeral photos from their site.

Thanks for asking them to remove the funeral photos. Hatzola's website has enough gruesome images to click on without the dead kids' bodies bleeding through their white shrouds also being available.

How anyone can celebrate such disgusting inhumanity is incomprehensible.

I'm glad Hatzola's webmasters put up the Rantisi photo, but its presence wasn't enough to remedy the sickening feeling I got from looking at the jihadi sites.

But anyway, kol ha-kavod.

Always.

I don't think we're in a "war of ideas." We may be in a war of ideologies, but looking back at previous such wars (like WWII) I think you're dead wrong. We didn't concern ourselves overmuch with whether or not we were terribly nice to the other side. And we won.

update on all4israel:

during the past few days' correspondence with their director, the problem should be solved today.

their webserver was out until yesterday, but today he will change the website so that people will not be able to right-click on the photos to get the URL. that will certainly eliminate a good part of the problem.

he also said that he may "revise" the linked photos to present a "message" to them (I sure hope its good!)

while I was on the Northeast Intelligence Network's website, it looks like they've discovered the jihadi sites linked to one of their photos as well -- and they did something very similar in response to the bandwidth theft (although not nearly as priceless as the yassin photo!)

Note to Abu Banan: Don't be a bandwidth thief!

I would characterize this as a war of "images" -- and the internet is a double-edged sword in that respect. who knew we would all be on the front lines???

137 Anthony  Thu, Jun 3, 2004 5:11:49pm

Reminds me of when the US media posted pics of Uday and Qusay. Except this time, it's on the internet posted by forumers. Not a legitimate source.
