Kerry: They Like Me! They Really Like Me!

Fri, Jun 4, 2004 at 4:19:38 pm PDT

This is terrible. I’ve heard of it happening before; a middle-aged man begins to exercise, say by riding a Serotta road bike long distances, and as decades-old fat cells start to break up they release minute quantities of illicit drugs from long-ago abuse, leading to the well-known “acid flashback.”

Kerry: Many U.S. Military Back Him as Their Commander. (Hat tip: lazytart.)

MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) - Democrat John Kerry courted the traditionally Republican veterans’ vote on Friday by suggesting that many in the U.S. military would prefer him as commander in chief over President Bush.

A decorated Navy lieutenant in the Vietnam War, Kerry told veterans who are organizing other veterans across the country that active duty personnel were privately telling him, “We need a change.”

“You’d be amazed at the number of active duty personnel who are coming up at events around the country, greeting me in ropelines or coming to rallies and telling me how important it is for us to stand up and fight for those who are not able to speak out for themselves right now for obvious reasons,” Kerry said.

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee added: “But the numbers of active duty people quietly coming and saying we need a change, we need to build a modern military, we need to do the things necessary to protect our troops, we need to have all our allies on the ground in Iraq ... that’s what this race is about.”

A CBS poll shows the President leading by a wide margin among veterans nationwide, 54% to 40%: Vets Favor Bush. (Hat tip: NC.)

Oh Bullshit, there is no way Kerry is that close among vets. I don't know a single vet, serving or not, who would vote for that asshat.

7 Minnesota Lurker  Fri, Jun 4, 2004 2:27:21pm

All evidence to the contrary Mr. Kerry. The Vetrans whom you spit on, by your words won't vote for you. The Vetrans who lost their limbs because of the encouragement you gave the enemy won't be voting for you either.

Just a few pages of scrolling down the comments on [Link: www.vietnamvetsagainstjohnkerry.com...]
and you'll see that there are a lot of SANE Vets, and they'll ALL be voting for Bush.

Also many other sites like that one.

I'm a Minnesotan and doubly outraged since he claims support from vets, and did so in my backyard!

8 Donna V.  Fri, Jun 4, 2004 2:29:36pm

Well, didn't Kerry say that "many" foreign leaders have "privately" told him that they wanted him to win? (Actually, I don't doubt that - I'm sure Castro, Arafat, Assad, Chirac, etc. are rooting for him - we already know Hans Blix is).

It looks like Kerry is prone to having lots of "private conversations" with many imaginary friends. If Dr. Irons was in the house, he could give us a diagnosis and perhaps write a prescription for the poor dolt.

12 Christopher Luebcke  Fri, Jun 4, 2004 2:40:21pm

Not that it isn't spin, and not that he's at all popular overall with active duty or vets, but he did say "many", and didn't say "a majority" or "most". 40% is "many". Not enough, but many. Even 30% is "many", when you consider how many active and retired military personnel there are. And of course he's going to spin any numbers his way; any politician running for office would, including W.--it's just how the game is played.

Raining at my house, but I got the lawn mowed before it hit. Two hours of thunder/lightning, some quite close, before rain started. Cool clouds. IAH airport reporting hail, although nothing in immediate HOU area big enough to dent sheetmetal.

Not so up around Abilene. Interesting, as scattered severe storms near Midland, up near Amarillo, near Abilene, south of Dallas, and even a few marginally severe near Houston. The whole state is cool today.

I want to post some sobering immigration reading. I might as well post on this strand since both Kerry and Bush (the Dems and the Republicans) are CONSPIRING to ignore the immigration problem. Don't laugh. They conspired in '92 to ignore the national debt, and it took the Perot candidacy to make it an issue. As sure as shootin' the next third party will be anti-immigration. No, I don't mean 'immigration reform', and I don't mean 'the undocumented worker problem'. I mean Anti-Immigration. I would vote for that.

Before I left to come back to the States I got in a conversation with our Command Chief. He was amazed that I thought Kerry was a bigger POS than Clinton or Carter. I showed him a few things about Kerry's voting record.I'm pretty sure I made an impact on his view of Kerry (who he already held nothing but contempt for).

35 Luigi  Fri, Jun 4, 2004 3:21:51pm

Another immigration horror story I'll post here since it reporsents a Kerry failure -- and a Bush failure.

How fast are they colonizing us? Mario Obledo, founding member of the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), (the most anti-American group in the US today), and former California Secretary of Health/Welfare, speaking on the Tom Leikus radio talk show said, "We're going to take over all the political institutions in California. In five years the Hispanics are going to be the majority population of this state." Caller: "You also made the statement that California is going to become a Hispanic state and if anyone doesn't like it they should leave - did you say that?" Obledo: "I did. They ought to go back to Europe."

#32 You mean Danforth?

The guy that headed up commisar Reno's second ''investigation'' of the murder of American citizens at Waco and BATF / FBI coverup of the acts? The guy that rubber stamped the FBI's version of events and proved that republicans, like democrats, in the federal government will always protect the government and over the citizens.

Very Beltway, very establishment, another liberal internationalist to the UN. Isn't he a an ordained Episcopal priest?

All I remember about him is that he was "Mr. Affirmative Action". I always thought of him as a rich white boy (from Purina I think) who got his and decided to be noble and volunteer little white guys to get passed over/not hired so he could be a media darling.

I despise people like that. He's no better than a Kennedy, just has an "R" after his name.

But who cares - who listens to the UN anyhow?

Before any more of you go off on the deep end regarding the CBS poll. I find the whole veteran portion of the results bogus.

Of 1,100+ people poled by telephone, 170 self identified themselves as Veterans. Veterans of what?

The detailed question results are not in the ballpark of any specific polling of serving and or served within the last decade Armed Forces members.

I believe any polling of post all volunteer armed forces, veterans and current serving personnel, would show well over 60% support for the President and way over 50% support for Iraqi war.

Slightly OT, but has anyone else noticed how Andrew Sullivan's "The Daily Dish" is becoming dog chow? Yesterday, he tried to surmise why Bush's poll numbers have dropped among rural voters and he came up with -Iraqi prisoner abuse! Apparently, the images will haunt Andrew til the end of his days, so he thinks they're also haunting Bubba and the Midwest Farmer's Daughters.

Well, even though I am a Midwest Farmer's Daughter, he wasn't farming any more by the time I came along and I grew up in the city, so I don't pretend to have my finger on the pulse of rural America. But somehow, I think I know it slightly better than Randy Andy does. I seriously doubt that Wisconsin dairy farmers, the cotton growers of Alabama, and the ranchers of Wyoming are fretting overmuch because of pictures of Iraqis with panties on their heads.

I don't think it's occurred to either the conservatives or the libs inside the Beltway that maybe Duyba's poll numbers dropped off in May because plenty of people thought he was being too wussy. I damn near puked when I heard he was going to apologize to the friggin' King of Jordan. They'll be having snowmobile races in hell before I'll vote for Kerry, though.

I've noticed that, too. I've even considered e-mailing Sullivan, and letting him know that he is as out of touch with "flyover" country as Howlin' Howell Raines is, but I didn't see any point.

Sullivan's a Brit, and doesn't really understand Americans to begin with. And the Americans he's around are all Damnyankee Liberals, for the most part.

He understands the culture of most of America about as thoroughly as I understand the culture of Ulan Bator.

He's aware we exist.

And that's about it.

Well, speakin' from my neck of the woods, most of us rural-type folks are laughin' about the whining about "torture" (not really thinking that lingerie on head qualifies and are thinkin' more in terms of torches applied to skin) and are purty pissed off about any apologies.

I don't think it's occurred to either the conservatives or the libs inside the Beltway that maybe Duyba's poll numbers dropped off in May because plenty of people thought he was being too wussy.

Exactly! Although somebody in Kerry's campaign apparently did and is tryin' to get him to butch up. Even if he appeared at rallies with testicles that he had to have pushed around in a wheelbarrow, I can't see me crossin' over to the Dark Side.

#79 Donna V.,

Below is a reprint of a comment left on Econopundit (www.econopundit.com) some time ago by a correspondent. It concerns Sullivan and I find it to be quite on the mark:

I have to agree with [Bezowsky]. I only majored in economics in college before getting my JD, so I don't have the background of professional economists, but I find his stuff [Sullivan's] increasingly unhinged. I have read him since before the 2000 election, but find that I spend little time there anymore. Lately, it is just a quick scan to see if there might be one post worth reading out of the 4 or 5 he puts up and I'm gone.

As for his ethics, you got to be kidding. He has the strangest, most self-serving ethical and philosophical structure I have ever seen. He is a Catholic, except for the fact that he disagrees with the Church on almost everything. He is a conservative, except for the social and economic issues that he disagrees with.

I think he is the ultimate modern man per C S Lewis. Andrew puts God in the dock and judges Him. Sullivan likes drugs, so he decides they are morally acceptable. He succumbs to the temptation of unmarried sex with serial partners, so he decides it isn't sinful. He enjoys homosexual sex, so he decides that it isn't sinful. What he ends up with is a god who is nothing more than a deity who reinforces all of Andrew's rationalizations. Andrew has constructed his own god for his own reasons.

Sullivan apparently doesn't repent. He merely redefines sin to accord with his own earthly desires.

We read him for the same reason we read the papers and monitor the networks. He has influence and it is important to understand how other people are thinking.

He pondered for a while, and then said, "Well, I guess most folks figure it's no worse than what happens when you send your kids to a college that isn't agricultural.". I laughed my ass off. I'm glad you two brought this up. I find Andy very frustrating. I was reading his column today and he was going on about how Bush had the right idea about the WOT but he should "apologize" for everything he'd done wrong on Iraq, or words to that effect. That makes this quote

Sullivan apparently doesn't repent. He merely redefines sin to accord with his own earthly desires.

from the piece addison quotes all the more remarkable.

Can you imagine how the Dems would react were Bush to "apologize" for everything that hasn't gone excactly according to plan in a f***ing war!

Cam,

I guess I don't share the sense of humor. Right now I'm just still pissed about Abu Ghraib. Not because I feel overwhelming sympathy for those abused there, but because I can't believe that members of our professional armed forces were so incredibly stupid as to undermine our authority in such a shameful way.

Taking me to a porn site with stacked fat women and spread shot ads doesn't do anything other than remind me not to click on your links in the future.

[In case you haven't figured it out by now, I am pretty strongly against the objectification of women.]

The same mindset that minimizes the effect of the onslaught of porn advertizing scarcely cares about the wholesale slaughter of the innocents that continues unabated in the Sudan, while the UN promises to help.

Just as soon as they can get funding, of course.

I think I'll just drink for a while. When I need to piss, trust me - I'll find the target.

#98 SwampWoman,

I teach Isshinryu Karate and a variant of Arnis (Filipino martial arts), as well as advanced cruelty and pressure-point (Kyushu jitsu) fighting :-)

I'm a mid-level instructor at one of the best dojos in the country. I hold a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Isshinryu, and a 2nd in Arnis. I also train in Tai Chi and Baugua (two Chinese internal arts; I am not an instructor for those arts, merely a student).

I also specialize in weapons, and can fight with varying degrees of skill with everything from the thigh bone of an antelope to belt-fed automatic weapons.

I teach one class every two weeks to kyu ranks, and on Sundays we have open-floor. I work with my serious students then, usually. If one of my real students (I only think of a very few people as my students; the rest are students at the dojo. There is a difference) needs extra help, I’ll make myself available when they need me, if my work schedule permits.

Does that answer your question, Doll?

We'll have to discuss the lithium question in a more private forum; this Friday night drinking group is a great bunch, but I worry about their ability to maintain confidentiality.

By the way, in talking about lithium with my patients, I often point out to the more technically-minded that lithium, as an element, holds an exalted position, as it is one of only three (the others being H, with one proton, and He, with two), that was created in the Big Bang, all others being the products of later stellar nucleosynthesis.

Law school? Where? If you don't mind answering. Other wise, again, no worries.

Ann

If you say so, I think I'll take your word. But then again, aren't you a newby?

185 Donna V.  Fri, Jun 4, 2004 6:39:29pm

Waaaaay OT, but a coworker told me this past week that he read that Bob Dylan is going to do ads for Victoria's Secret.

Anyone else hear about this? If it's true, the times really are a-changin'.

Since commercials should be topical and Dylan is known for his songs of social protest, he could put a pair of VS panties on his head and sing "The Ballad of Abu Ghraib."

If he put Mary Travers' panties on his head, he'd look like he was wearing a burka.

I'm pretty sure RIP Ford recognizes that.

I leave my email off for a number of reasons. It is cool to get "Rock on!" emails, and even "I hate your guts and wish you would die!" emails can actually be encouraging, but after a while, you get swamped.

I can't imagine being in Charles' shoes. I'll give my e-mail out to people I want to talk to backchannel, but that is it.

It ain’t cause I've gotanything against you Guys and Dolls, or even the Trolls.

last night (well, actually it was this morning after the mormon thread) I had the strangest dream. It was an LGF party, we all went to Charles' place (RWC had the keys...imagine that!) and everyone was there: RIP, RWC, twist, zulu, zorky, SwampWoman, NYNana, even reaganite (there were like 20 of us or something). we were all way partying down, had a minor troll invasion, promptly hammered, continued to party down...charles had really cool toys...and a lizard...you guys were so much FUN! Donna V., from your link

But I think the most likely motive for Dylan is exposure. It's a real struggle for older rockers to remind the world that they still exist.

All he would have to do is recirculate the "Everybody Must Get Stoned" song (I forget the real title). It's always appropriate for westerners and the Arabs love it.

Speaking of the devil, here is something from one of his not so secret fans ,and equally odious:Soros: Abu Ghraib = September 11

Billionaire financier George Soros, the financial power behind a number of anti-Bush movements on the left, today directly compared the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal in Iraq with the terrorist attacks of September 11.

"The picture of torture in Saddam's prison was a moment of truth for us," Soros said Thursday morning in Washington at a meeting of the liberal activist group Campaign for America's Future.

"I think that those pictures hit us the same way as the terrorist attack itself," Soros continued, "not quite with the same force, because in the terrorist attack, we were the victims. In the pictures, we were the perpetrators and others were the victims."

"But there is, I'm afraid, a direct connection between those two events, because the way President Bush conducted the war on terror converted us from victims into perpetrators."

The audience, made up of left-wing activists from around the country, broke into enthusiastic applause.

Soros also outlined his theory that a doctrine of "American supremacy" took hold inside the Bush administration due to the influence of a group of "neoconservative" ideologues. Soros said the United States went to war in Iraq on false pretenses, "because there was no connection between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda" and "there were no weapons of mass destruction," but what he finds "most galling" is the idea that the United States "went to war in Iraq for the sake of the Iraqi people."

At the meeting, which was dubbed the "Take Back America" conference, Soros was introduced by Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who told the crowd that "we need people like George Soros, who is fearless and willing to step up when it counts."...........

What a piece of shit! If this was already posted, sorry! Too many threads, too little time!

OK, back to partying! :)

RIP Ford I picture as, well, damn I can't get Prez. Ford outta my mind.

NYNana is your nicest jewish grandmother type, always with a pot o' chicken soup.

RWC I imagine as a tall, dark, handsome, and wearing a very tasteful suit (in a dark tone -- much more presidential than that bannana blazer and pink tie Kerry was wearing the other day).

I always imagined charles as young with long dark hair, but in my dream he was much older (that was really weird, I might add).

Twistarella I imagine is a petite fiery blonde curly hair type who smells a bit like horses.

Ann I imagine fully locked and loaded -- Laura Croft in the flesh.

SwampWoman, you're actually one of the characters in a game I'm designing.

Swampwoman likes oatmeal and bourbon. Not necessarily together. Much to her husband's chagrin, Swampwoman insists on feeding the "poor, hungry, wet" alligators in the nearby pond. Townspeople have sworn that on many a dark and stormy night, they see lights by the pond and the smell of boiled goat hangs ominously in the air. They say that's definitely a good night for everyone to stay home and eat popcorn. Everyone except Swampwoman, that is...

Then manatees showed up in Houston bayous.

#253 RIP Ford abu drinking thread is here

Would you mind telling the peanut gallery the meaning of your nic?

Well...I actually have one thousand sons. They all have paper routes and made me rich! HA HA!

Seriously tho'. Its meaning is two fold:

The short version is I used to play a lot of Warhammer 40k. and always liked the "Thousand Sons" chapter.

The long winded, intellectual version is from my love of Shakespere. I did Falstaff once in high school. The Bard had a great quote about sherry and on the drinking thread I think this quote is appropriate:

A good sherris sack hath a two-fold
operation in it. It ascends me into the brain;
dries me there all the foolish and dull and curdy
vapours which environ it; makes it apprehensive,
quick, forgetive, full of nimble fiery and
delectable shapes, which, delivered o'er to the
voice, the tongue, which is the birth, becomes
excellent wit.
IfI had a thousand sons, the first humane principle I would teach them should be, to forswear thin potations and to addict themselves to sack.

So drink! ;)

314 Ed Moran:Abu Veteran Voter for Bush  Fri, Jun 4, 2004 8:35:37pm

I've drank beer in San Diego, CA and San Diego, TX. I purchased beer at the Diamond-Shamrock in San Diego.

SAN DIEGO, TEXAS. San Diego, the county seat of Duval County, is on San Diego Creek and the Texas-Mexican Railway at the intersection of State highways 44 and 359 and Farm Road 1329, sixteen miles northeast of Benavides, twenty-four miles southeast of Freer, and fifty-two miles west of Corpus Christi on the county line between eastern Duval and western Jim Wells counties. The San Diego Cemetery lies northeast of town. Long before the town itself existed, its site was known to transients. In the eighteenth century travelers between Goliad and Mier used the springs that help feed San Diego Creek and now lie within the city limits as a watering hole. Around 1800 San Diego de Arriba and San Diego de Abajo, two grants totaling eight leagues of land, were granted by the Spanish government to Julián Flores and his son Ventura. The grants were surveyed in 1806 by José Faustino Contreras, the surveyor general of San Luis Potosí. Julián and Ventura Flores arrived in 1809 and received their deed in 1812. The first settlers may have been Julián Flores's herdsmen, who had settled on his ranch there by 1815; four years later the Flores family authorized an agent to found a town "at the place called San Diego." In 1828 Luis Muñiz became the first recorded birth in Duval County; he lived until the mid-1840s. By 1844 a visiting surveyor placed "some twenty-five families" there, and in 1846 Gen. Zachary Taylorqv and his troops reportedly camped there on their way to occupy Port Isabel, but not until 1848, when Henry L. Kinney and William L. Cazneauqv cut a road from Corpus Christi to Laredo that passed through the area, was the settlement named. In that year Ventura Flores sold some land along the north bank of San Diego Creek to Pablo Pérez,qv who built some stone houses and brought some families to live there. The resulting community was known as Perezville

...........

For the next fifteen years or so, while the price of wool remained high, San Diego grew and prospered. In 1875, when the population reportedly consisted of "about 500 Mexicans and 50 Americans," Luby, Shaeffer, and two other men were appointed to partition the town, and the sale of town lots began shortly thereafter. A year later, when Duval County was organized, San Diego was chosen as the county seat. The town was still far from genteel; in 1878 2,000 federal troops were stationed in San Diego to afford the citizens some protection from Mexican and Indian raiders, and in 1879, during a period of protracted drought, five men were shot dead in downtown San Diego as part of a dispute over a local waterhole. In 1888 the county election campaign between the Botas and Guarachesqv (Democrats and Republicans) turned ugly when Francisco de Gonzales, the newspaper editor and guarache partisan, angrily confronted a group of boys who had been following a wagon of bota musicians. On the following day Anastacio Gómez, the father of one of the boys, sought out Gonzales in a local barbershop; the two exchanged angry words, whereupon Gonzales pulled a gun and shot Gómez, who died soon thereafter

Unfortunately, San Diego's tradition of violence, usually politically motivated, also persisted into the twentieth century. On December 20, 1907, shortly after engineering a sweeping guarache triumph in the county elections, John Cleary, the county tax assessor and leader of the Duval County Democratic Party, was killed by a shotgun blast while sitting in a San Diego restaurant. His assassin escaped while local lawmen were enjoying a fiesta, which they claimed had drowned out the sound of the shooting. Two Texas Rangers arrived on the following morning to take charge of the investigation, and in April 1908 they arrested San Diego merchant T. J. Lawson, his son Jeff, and a former deputy sheriff named Candelario Saenz, who was identified as the triggerman.

Too bad I don't have the connector thingamagiggy or I would post it tonight.

316 Ed Moran:Abu Veteran Voter for Bush  Fri, Jun 4, 2004 8:36:35pm

Cont.

The grand jury indicted Saenz and dismissed the evidence against the Lawsons as circumstantial, but before the trial two witnesses died of natural causes and Saenz went free. Cleary's assassination opened the Duval County Democratic leadership to Archer Parr,qv thereby beginning perhaps the most remarkable political dynasty in Texas (see BOSS RULE).

Ironically, Saenz was shot dead in a political dispute four years later. C. M. Robinson, the county Democratic chairman, had fomented a revolution against Parr's despotic control of local politics. Parr had arranged a referendum on the question of incorporating San Diego, no doubt hoping to increase the number of patronage jobs at his disposal, for May 18, 1912. On that morning Robinson and three of his allies encountered three Mexican-American county officials, including Saenz, who were Parr loyalists. Insults and then shots were exchanged, and all three Mexican Americans were killed. The Parr forces claimed that the Robinson camp had provoked the gunplay to intimidate Mexican Americans into staying home on election day, and in fact only about 200 people voted, and the incorporation measure failed by a two-to-one margin. Robinson himself had been unarmed, but the sheriff of Jim Wells County quickly arrested his associates and transferred them to Corpus Christi. The three went free on bond and were finally acquitted in April 1914. Meanwhile the town tried to get on with business as usual. By the time of the acquittal a San Diego Commercial Club had been founded, and among the town's commercial establishments were three banks, three cotton gins, an automobile livery, and a brewery. A former employee of the latter concern played a key role in perhaps the most bizarre episode in San Diego's history, and one that symbolized the depth of the town's identification with Mexico. In January 1915 a Hidalgo County deputy sheriff arrested Basilio Ramos, Jr., in McAllen. Ramos, who had recently quit his job with the Royal Brewing Company, was carrying a copy of what became known as the Plan of San Diego.qv

San Diego's estimated population fluctuated between 2,500 and 3,500 during the 1920s and 1930s, but by the early 1940s the town was reported to have 2,674 residents and 110 businesses. In 1938 a pharmaceutical company and a tile manufacturer were located there, and in the mid-1950s Manuel Marroquín was producing corn tortillas, but despite the presence of Archie Parr's son and successor, George B. Parr,qv who made San Diego his home, the town lacked the industrial clout of Freer, whose economic prosperity was based on oil. San Diego held an annual Fiesta of Progress from 1946 to 1950 to celebrate its prosperity, but it was discontinued in 1951 due to economic reverses caused by a prolonged drought. In 1950, when the estimated population had grown to 4,394, the eighty-five retail and ten service establishments in San Diego had combined sales of $2,160,000. In 1954 the Fiesta of Progress was revived to help pay for a new community center, built as a memorial to the town's World War IIqv dead, but in 1955 the town built a new little league baseball field on the old fiesta grounds. In 1990 the population of San Diego was 4,983.

I have to particularly stay away from Brandy..Red Wine..RUM...in fact if drinking anything --I need to only drink Vodka. (I can make a fabulous Bloody Mary) Once in a Purim I make a Bloody Mary..so delish.

Thats for Headache only. For breaking down the Alcohol like a normal person..never happens..just an inherited brain chemistry.

Thousan Sons,

It's not my cup of tea, too cold for too long north of Dallas for me, but I enjoy myself immensely every time I head up there. As a side note, my family is origianlly from Chicago. So I'm very familiar with the area.

SwampWoman,

LOL

Thanks!

Zorkmidden: (Dang, I'm getting behind! Did I mention tonight that I wish I had DSL?)

Well, if I was feedin' them damn gators, I'd be feeding them either (a) the neighbor dogs, or (b) the neighbors.

I ain't got no goats, only sheep. But goats are more southern, I agree.

Grits, not oatmeal (delicate shudder at the thought of eating oatmeal).

Thousand Sons,

One place I always like taking people from out of town is Three Brothers, a Serbian restaurant on the South Side. It's small and in an old building and when you walk in, it looks like nothing fancy. But you get these fantastic meals of lamb, goose, duck, or this pie composed of a zillion sheets of filo dough with spinach and cheese layers. The cooking is truly wonderful (big portions - not what you would call low cal ) and it's very cozy in the wintertime. I highly recommend it.

its not uncommon, many jews don't have the (I think its blood) chemistry for alcohol, but also many japanese and, of course, many native americans. there's a prevalence for missing an enzyme or something.

but look on the bright side...you don't spend as much on liquor as the rest of us.

Ed Moran,

LOL
LOL

I'm probably the only one that read that. Are you familiar with the one Riot, one Ranger story. Right?
For the rest of y'all:

As the story goes, sometime during the 1890s there was going to be a prizefight in Dallas . . .or maybe it was West Texas . . . or possibly it was somewhere along the Rio Grande. We may not be sure of the exact location, but we are sure it was somewhere in Texas. Anyway, frantic citizens had put out a desperate plead for a company of Rangers to stop the fight.

Imagine their shock when one solitary Ranger, often said to be McDonald, got off the train. Looking at the lone Ranger, the townsmen wanted to know when the rest of the company would arrive. Then came the legendary reply: “There’s just one prizefight, isn’t there?”

Uh oh, sorry for the "lesson".

RWC,

Oh, Lord no. I'm thinking tomorrow of Sunday. (D-Day) She would be a perfect campanion for my place and also the ranch. I just want to make sure that all of my ducks are in a row before jumping feet first.

Since Im also a Migraine person..Cannot TOUCH..NOT COME NEAR..Red Wine. Brandy, of course also not good..(its wine of a sort) Red Wine makes me very sick..cant even cook with it. My Dad, physician, told me IF I had to drink or wanted to join in sometimes....Vodka would be the safest for me--headachewise that is.. Vodka would do me the least damage in that area.

So of course..mostly I dont drink. Why would I? LOLOL

344 Lady of Shalott (ylreveb)  Fri, Jun 4, 2004 9:00:08pm

Here's a shocker. A good one from Joel Mowbray on Townhall, about the sedition in the State Department and the destruction of Chalabi:

"The dividing line is very clear: on one side are the president’s political appointees, and on the other are careerists who have no loyalty to the commander-in-chief.

"To fully appreciate the mutinous sentiment at State, consider that it is a place where its employees feel free to display on desks and doors political cartoons lampooning President Bush. Anecdotally, many Foreign Service members joined anti-war rallies last spring, according to several State Department officials.

"The undermining is not merely symbolic, either."

Shocking.

now that I am late and everyones left I guess I will have to drink alone.

Barkeep: Three Guiness, room temperature and three shots of glenlivet.

427 Globular Cluster  Fri, Jun 4, 2004 11:18:15pm

Alright you drunks, back to the original point:

What the heck is the beef with Kerry here? He didn't say that the *majority* of people in the armed forces support him, he just said that "many" do.

Now it all depends on how you define "many". If there are 3 million people in the military and 1 million will vote for Kerry, then, yes, many people in the military support Kerry.

Is this unusual?

428 Jolly Roger  Sat, Jun 5, 2004 12:21:59am

All,

As for JF'nK, agree with all other Active Duty persons above, haven't seen a single Kerry supporter.

RIP Ford...if you're heading to Austin, let's drink ;).

#426 Steve,

I'll have one of those Glenlivets, please...you shoudn't drink alone ;).

I thought I'd have many other points to make, but I've been drinking steadily for at least 6 hrs now ;).

Somebody remind me to contact Ed Moran or AG in Houston.

/Drinking off, Jolly Roger

429 Ed Moran:Abu Veteran Voter for Bush  Sat, Jun 5, 2004 4:17:13am

I'm a little sluggish after Jack and Diet Lime Coke last night.

Dear Edward,

As a valued member of the President's team, you are receiving a special preview of the latest Bush-Cheney television ad that will begin running on national cable.

The new ad highlights President Bush's leadership in strengthening the economy - including 1.4 million new jobs added since last August - in contrast to John Kerry's pessimism about America's growing economy.

To view the ad, please go here:

Know a friend or family member who would like to see the new ad? Please forward this email to them.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

logger phd: Trolls avoid Iron Fist threads-- if you saw his picture, you'd know why!!!

Zorky, (*reproachfully*) you drink me under the table and then dis my man Colin! To see how I really feel, peep

this

And no one will even argue the point with me-- Zulu just pops up at the end and delugess me with 132+ anti-Colin threads! That's why I'm driven to argue with trolls and the guys at Winds of Change. :(

Kerry is such damaged goods even his so-called supporters call him a douche bag. He is the anti-bush, the vote against bush. It could be anyone, tho. Maybe on the first ballot at the Dem Nat conv his delegates vote and then on the 2nd one they switcheroo to John Edwards or acclaim unanimous vote for Bill Richardson.
All the repulican ads are known and have no more impact. the guy is hispanic. they get Kerry to support by promising him Kofi's job. Secretary-general of the United Nations.
so they did the switcheroo with Lautenberg for Toricelli
against New Jersy Law(s) and the new Jersey Supremes up-held the manouver.
