Barghouti Gets Five Life Sentences

Sun, Jun 6, 2004 at 8:06:30 am PDT

Palestinian terrorist leader Marwan Barghouti has been sentenced to five consecutive life terms for mass murder; in yet another shamefully biased article clearly sympathetic to this swine, al-Reuters calls the convicted killer a “lawmaker” and a “revolt leader:” Palestinian Revolt Leader Gets Life in Israeli Jail. (Hat tip: scaramouche.)

A fiery and articulate Palestinian lawmaker, Barghouthi did not recognize the jurisdiction of the court that convicted him of murder last month but acquitted him of 21 other killings, citing insufficient evidence.

Supporters said Barghouthi had no intention of appealing the verdict or asking the court for a reduced sentence.

Israeli Arab parliamentarians shook Barghouthi’s hand and kissed him before he entered the courtroom. Relatives of 20 slain Israelis screamed at the Israeli Arab lawmakers: “You’re garbage! Peace will come when terrorism ends!”

Lawmaker?
Sick shit.

Lets start a pool. How long till his terrorist scum friends kidnap someone to exchange for him? I have November 20.

4 Powderfinger  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 6:19:46am

Damn. I was hoping for 5 death sentences.

Some day Israel will realize that there is a little bit of Eichman in a lot of folk - and it all deserves the same treatment.

And I notice that self loathing Jew--Urine Avnery from that rag Ha'aretz was there in support of the criminal.
(Veteran journalist Uri Avnery, a known left-wing activist, held up a banner with the words - "Marwan Barghouti - a partner for negotiations." Security personnel ripped up the banner and evicted Avnery from the courthouse.)

Holy shit! And I thought our treasonous politicians were horrid. At least they aren't physically sucking up to our active enemies in public. Why are these people not stripped of citizenship and deported, if not jailed or executed first?

Thom (#1) "{sigh}"

Yes, its very sad. And its not just the politicians.

today I was driving in the Galilee (road 65, for those of you in Israel) and in a densely populated Arab area, right on the side of the road, there was a billboard in arabic, with a hebrew translation (apparently for Israelis such as myself, who are stupid enough to take the road). The text said "lishhor (sic) et ha asirim" which is supposed to mean "free the prisoners." Under the text were pictures of a few of these prisoners murderers, including Barghouti and a few other murderers. No matter how much we do for these people they'll always hate us.

I bet life in an Israeli jail, on the whole, is more pleasant on a day-to-day basis than life in the stinking shitholes that are the Pali West Bank and Gaza.

The terrorist is described as "fiery" but "articulate", while the victims' families are portayed as being the uncivilized ones, screaming at the "lawmaker".

15 Beagle  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 7:08:04am

Lawmaker? Justinian? Legislature? Executive?

Oh, never mind, just another terrorist being groomed by Reuters for a possible leadership role in Israel.

16 Ken  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 7:11:13am

Within five years (and probably much sooner) Barghouti will be released and paraded as the new Palestinian leader, with whom Israel can deal. This whole charade has been for the purposes of gaining him credibility with the Palestinian "street".

Menahem Begin, who was the one Israeli politician with a sense of morality, would not have permitted this. It is a shame and disgrace that Israel is led by such shallow and corrupt people.

17 jenbr  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 7:12:16am

I understand today is Barghouti's 45th b-day.

5 consecutive life terms - the gift the keeps on giving ... very befitting for the murderer that he is.

18 Beagle  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 7:14:05am

I'm not going to take this entire article apart. We all know which side Reuters is on. But, this is the second paragraph.

"The (Israeli) occupation is going to end one day. It is dying," Barghouthi, 45, said just before the Tel Aviv court handed down five consecutive life sentences for murder over the killings of five people by militants in his Fatah (news - web sites) faction.

This is in a second section of the article, presumably for JOOOOOOOS! I guess civilized people who are not Jewish might be interested also.

The court found Barghouthi guilty of murder and complicity in attacks that killed a Greek Orthodox monk in the West Bank in 2001, an Israeli at the Jewish settlement of Givat Zeev in 2002 and three people at a Tel Aviv restaurant in 2002.

First, give people a place to join the terrorists.

Second, report the news.

Got it, Reuters. No thanks, but got it.

19 Colt  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 7:20:54am
acquitted him of 21 other killings, citing insufficient evidence.

Uh, no. Citing a stupid law that means the leader of a gang is not responsible for the actions of his gang members.

20 EE  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 7:22:37am

One man's terrorist is al-Reuters' lawmaker. It's al-Reuters' lawmaker, not anyone else's, because they did not use their famous quotation marks.

When Hitler committed suicide in his bunker at the end of World War II, a Reuters statement might have read: vegetarian driven underground.

The issue concerning the al-Reuters "news" service concerns what they choose to see, and what they choose not to see. They most definitely choose not to see any terrorism, not to see terrorists, not to see the war that is being waged by Islamikazi splodeydopes against Israeli children and other civilians. And what they don't see, they don't report. And what they don't see, they won't use any verbal category for. That's why the word terrorist is verboten in Reutersville.

For al-Reuters, the facts go through a filter. That which does not support their agenda is spiked. It's somewhat like getting a report on a fight, in which only the actions of one side are reported.

In a court of law, a witness must promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. But when al-Reuters seeks to establish the court of public opinion, they act as advocates for the Palis. For the victims of terrorism, al-Reuters acts as an enemy.

21 Christopher  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 7:25:49am

#16 Ken,

I have long suspected this might be true, and I wonder if Barghouti knows it. His whole demeanor during his trial has left me wondering what he knows that I do not.

While it may just be that D. Edgren is correct on the relative comforts of an Israeli jail, I have often wondered if this is merely an attempt by Israel to keep him out of the infighting and prep him for leadership when Arafish finally floats belly up.

22 Colt  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 7:32:07am

Barghouti thanks kapos and Europeans:

"This is the only occupation in the world," he said. "But the occupation is dead. All that is needed now is to perform a funeral for the occupation. I am not interested in life in prison. My day of freedom will be the day when the occupation is over. I call for the unification of our people and bless our Israeli friends who help us and the European parliament."

FIVE LIFE SENTENCES !!!!

That's worth atleast ONEdeath sentence ....aint it ?

Israel only allows the death penalty for traitors.

Quite why Vanunu is still around...

25 dgd  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 7:48:17am

One thing this POS is right about

"This occupation will end one day"

When the fences are finished and the Palestinians have to make it on their own. No help from Israel and none from the rest of the Arab world either.

26 Jakester  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 8:03:33am

Al-Reuters, that says it all. Someone should have thrown pigs blood on that Ayrab "lawmaker"!

27 Donna V.  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 8:21:41am

From Colt's post 22:

This is the only occupation in the world,"

Obviously untrue. And yet, it's true as far as Barghouti and the world media are concerned. If Jews or Americans aren't killing somebody, it's not news.

And what is it with this "articulate" business? Barghouti sounds about as articulate as the nutjobs I used to see in Lafayette Park yelling that Reagan was a criminal because they had no jobs. (It never seemed to occur to them that people actually have to look for jobs, rather than waiting for the POTUS to stroll on out of the White and hand them ones.)

EE is right - it's a case of complete tunnel vision.

28 Gringo  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 8:56:12am

Fiery?? Articulate????? Are they talking about Maxine Waters?

29 SoCalJustice  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 9:20:02am

I'm just wondering how soon Israel will release this fiery and articulate lawmaker, sentenced to 5 life terms.

That usually amounts to a 5 year sentence. With good behavior he'll be out on the streets in 3.

30 dalia  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 10:30:58am

Charles (#12) thank you for introducing me. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mr. preview button.

hahaha. not interested? then you probably won't enjoy it.

Poor Marwan
by Ariel Natan Pasko

Poor Marwan Barghouti. While Yasser Arafat gets thousands to rally at the Mukatah in Ramallah, after Israel "threatened" to "remove" him; while Arafat gets political leaders worldwide to call on Israel to leave him alone; while Arafat gets all 15 members of the UN Security Council to pressure Israel not to expel him; Marwan languishes in an Israeli prison. It just isn't fair...

34 Helen  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 12:17:32pm

Israel will not long survives if it allows its enemies to have a say in its governance. The best thing, when the wall is done, move the "Israeli Arabs" to the other side of the wall.

35 Dave Ray  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 12:40:35pm

Only occupation in the world?? Surely Tibet is occupied? Surely Northern Cyprus is occupied? I'm sure there are others too. What an Idiot. He should've got five bullets not five life sentences!

36 camal  Sun, Jun 6, 2004 12:52:57pm

Time to put Arafat in Israeli prison with him. He is the one who gives the money and the orders.

My daughter has been thinking of going into journalism in college. I told her not to waste her time. She would be better off getting a degree in foreign affairs and sharpening her writing skills. That way she will not be subjected to the bullshit that has produced today's journalists.

She could also branch off into other areas, such as speechwriter, press secretary, or even go into the diplomatic corps, as she is a good public speaker and has a facility for languages.

She has not found her "passion" yet.

If I had it to do all over again, I would have gone that route.

Well, maybe.

I think sometimes we are best off right where we are.

Shalom.

You are right. She should study a subject like history that has some real FACTS. The problem with journalists is that they don't know much--just enough to write glibly. Thomas Friedman is the most famous example of this kind of slick knownothingism.

My degree is in Communications and I say if your daughter wants to be a Journalist then let her.
We need more young journalists who can star making a difference in the media,it will be a task putting up with the idiot liberal professors and then the idiot editors in the media but think about the possibilities if we can get more right thinkers in the media.
What ever career she chooses I feel that with a concerned parent looking out for her she will excell.

Can you imagine any US congressperson kissing Timothy McVeigh and getting away with it? This is what Israel has to tolerate every day.

Israel Should Put Arafat On Trial Like Barghouti
By Ariel Natan Pasko

"It is likely that Israel will consider bringing Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat to trial, too." That's right, you read it right, and the Israeli Justice Minister Yosef Lapid said it recently.

For about two years now, I've been calling on the Israeli government to try Yasser Arafat like Nazi leader Adolph Eichmann for war crimes and crimes against humanity. I've written nine articles about it, such as, "Put Arafat on Trial Like Eichmann," "Don't Expel Arafat," "Poor Marwan," and "Hang Saddam, Then Arafat." With the exception of single articles by Alan Dershowitz, Uri Dan, and J. Grant Swank, Jr., I've been a lone voice. Sure there's been Israeli politicians calling for Arafat to be expelled from Israel, or "taken out and shot," but no one has called for a proper judicial process to educate the world about Arafat's horrendous crimes like Lapid recently did.

Then a week later, the recently evicted, former Transportation Minister Avigdor Lieberman, speaking on the popular Israeli television news show, "Politika," said, "There's no difference between Barghouti and Arafat, they're exactly the same, with one difference, Arafat is responsible for many more Israelis murdered in terror attacks, since after the Oslo Agreements..."

So both Lapid and Lieberman agree that Arafat should be tried...

Although I don't feel the Fourth Geneva Convention applies to Judea, Samaria (the West Bank), and Gaza. There is an interesting point to think about for those who prefer expelling Arafat. While Part 3, Section 3, Article 49 forbids individual or mass transfers from occupied territories - and is likely to raise many cries worldwide that we are violating International Law - Articles 64, 66, 67, and 68 (of Section 3), allow the Occupying Power to bring to trial and impose the death penalty on a person guilty of espionage, serious acts of sabotage against the military installations of the Occupying Power, or of intentional offences which have caused the death of one or more persons. Israel would be on firmer legal ground - according to the world - trying Arafat for his involvement in murdering Israelis, and executing him, than expelling him.

Put Arafat on trial for crimes against humanity, i.e. the Jewish people, his war crimes in Lebanon, the American diplomats he's already admitted years ago to having ordered killed in Sudan, and all the other victims of his decades old serial murder spree in the name of Palestinian independence, and get it over with already.

Israel should put Arafat on trial like Barghouti, with one exception, Barghouti got life sentences, Arafat should be hanged like Eichmann.
