Not In My Name

Fri, Aug 27, 2004 at 7:46:28 pm PDT

For the record, as a cycling enthusiast: though we may ride similar machines, the self-centered grandstanding freaks of Critical Mass do not represent me.

As a former bike racer in college and grad school and now fat, middle aged cycling enthusiast who squeezes into my ill-fitting lycra and coolmax to still do long saturday rides... i categorically state that the butt-munchers of "critical mass" have nothing in common with REAL cycling enthusiasts like you, Charles... or I like to fancy myself.

Look at them on their bikes: not a serious machine or rider among them. Dirty anarchists on -- probably -- stolen bikes.

11 Skippy  Fri, Aug 27, 2004 6:06:24pm

The irony of stuff like this is so thick it makes Michael Moore look positively svelt.

These moonbats call themselves progressives who are fighting for the workers of the world...yet who really get jobbed by a stunt like this at 8:00pm on a Friday evening? Waitresses, cabbies, bus drivers, clerks at little groceries and other blue collar, working class folk.

And these asshats have zero chance of copping a clue about why all these stupid, stupid, little Americans don't like them or respect all the "work" the tin-foil crowd is doing on their behalf.

12 NY Nana  Fri, Aug 27, 2004 6:07:20pm

Live, on channel 7; over 200 hundred of the cyclists have been arrested..Second Ave is a mess. Lucy Yang, the reporter, said that a lot of people are telling her that the demonstraotors have already worn out their welcome..and should leave. Not a word against the RNC, in a city where the Republicans are outnumbered, 5 to 1, and a city that is overwhelmingly dhummi.

They are also saying that this is mild compared what is coming...G-d help us.

1) IARD- as a fat pedestrian (trying to lose weight) who pounds the local bike path on a daily basis, I ca say that the only a-holes are the wannabe middle age banker types who are riding barely faster than I can walk. The serious cyclists always announce their presence and give my stumbling ass plenty of room.

2) I wish that I had had one. Coming of age in English boarding school tends to deny you that. Having to defend US foreign policy at lunch(during 41 no less) when you're 13 years old tends to dispel your illusions at an alarming rate.

23 awal  Fri, Aug 27, 2004 6:17:46pm

To the extent that Critical Masses (used to be) about raising awareness about increasing bicycling options for transportation and commuting as well as the general need for bicycle lanes and paths, I used to think it was a decent idea and a fairly reasonable example of the types of non-violent protest that often help get attention for people's cause(s).

To the extent that Critical Masses have been co-opted by the political agendas of far left, Indymedia, dope-smoking (ok maybe that one isn't so bad) moveon.org losers, I think that the preferred tactics of NYPD and other law enforcement officials should involve large quantities of steam rollers.

Meanwhile, the Mossad/Karl Rove's hit squad/killer rabbits/all of the above have been up to no good in North Korea:

"N. Korean Leader's Mistress Reported Dead"

South Korean officials have said they are trying to confirm Ko's death, which Japanese media also reported, citing unidentified sources.

Ko, 51, reportedly enamored Kim while working as a folk dancer. Her son, Jong Chol, once studied in a Swiss school and is believed to be have worked at the propaganda department of the North's ruling Workers' Party of Korea.

North Korean experts have speculated that Kim considers Jong Chol as a possible successor, just as Kim inherited power from his father and national founder, Kim Song Il, who died in 1994.

Yup, gotta watch the products of those Swiss schools.

Considering that I'll be bike commuting to work next week (I just started a blog and will post pictures of the commute as well as all the fun on the streets next week) the critical mass people actually make my life (and the life of other bike commuters) more difficult. They think they're reclaiming the streets for bikers, but by didobeying the traffic laws and screwing up rush hour, all they do is piss off every motorist to the point where the normal bikers get shafted.

As for the bikes they ride, trust me, in NYC you dont tool around on a Colnago to go from point A to B. You need a beater bike that looks crappy enough to avoid the eye of any potential thief.

Just witnessed the Critical Mass morons blocking 2nd Avenue. After asking one gentleman why they're doing this, he explained to me that it was in protest of the traffic created by cars in the city and against Bush (of course).
But you should have seen the amount of traffic they created by shutting down one of the busiest routes in the city, driving hundreds of cops there, choppers, masses of people, just a total plug up of the area. The hypocrisy is awesome.

Cool. My dayglo green Royce Union Stingray knockoff is up in bike heaven, but in times of trouble it comes to my aid. Like the time when I hit an oil slick in the Combat Zone on Washington St. back in my messenger days. The resulting road rash had induced an altered state, and when I was able to get up a tiny delicately featured olive skin woman was standing there with a perfect replica of my old bike. She asked in a Spanish sounding accent if I was alright. Every nerve in my body was jangling like a firehouse bell, but I told her I would be fine and got on my 40 lb Lotus Pegasus and painfully rode off. But the strangeness of seeing my old bike nagged at me and I turned to get one more look, but she and the bike were gone.

Moonbat should have read the stupid, suicidal, fatally idealistic Hanschu document a little closer.

The current agreement also prohibits the department from videotaping or photographing political activities and public events unless criminal activity is expected or present.

I think they can drive about 500 video cameras through that gaping hole. All the cops need is a computer and Internet access to Indymedia. Their thread is all the cops need, IMO.

72 Hoo2004  Fri, Aug 27, 2004 7:28:39pm

Given the fact that the NYPD knows that the 50 most dangerous anarchists are in town to disrupt the RNC, using ILLEGAL means, they are more than justified when they keep records of protests that may involve those induhviduals (aka all protests).

RealWest was taken to St. Vincents Hospital in NYC- - yesterday--apparently fell down again, this time breaking his collarbone. She (*his mother, who is now staying at his apartment) was about to go back to see him this afternoon- still waiting on various test results-apparently he was pretty incoherent on admission.

Don't know much more than that- I'll call her again this eve or tomorrow, but it would seem he will be in for a while.

I haven't gotten a return email, after sending a few, and will call the person who emailed me in the morning to see what is happening. Right now NYC is a mess..

#40 Bruder -- "Just witnessed the Critical Mass morons blocking 2nd Avenue.
The hypocrisy is awesome."

I didn't witness it, but what I cannot fathom is how these people can unlawfully deny the streets to those who have legal use of them and no one acts to defend their own rights.

It surprises me that since traffic is stopped, motorists just don't exit their vehicles and clear the way, tossing the wreckage of bicycles and collateral human damage to the side?

I think the average NYer has to start thinking and acting this way. These people are illegally interfering with our rights. The police cannot and should not be expected to clear the way for everyone. Self-help seems in order, yet everyone just meekly surrenders to these lawbreakers. Arrangements have been made for the proper excerise of First Amendment rights which must be protected and I support that for my own sake if for no one elses. Any other obstructive or violent protest is done at the expense of the rights of the greater public and they should be able, without fear of prosecution, to enforce their rights.

I will not be looking for trouble. But after nearly 40 years of these people, when it suits them, unlawfully interfering with my legitimate rights of use and access to public places in the course of my daily activities, if trouble comes my way -- I'm not backing down. Not this time and not any more. September 11 changes everything and it is time for Americans to take a stand and take back our streets. Let the chips fall where they may.

Criminal activity need only be expected. They've made it clear on numerous websites that they have every intention of breaking the laws in numerous ways. Ignoring the traffic violations, they are dangerous people. I hope NYC has enough troops ready. I'm sure some evidence is necessary for expectation. But since they write their intentions down on public forums, no problem.

The combat V is (AFAIK) an add-on to all services' Bronze Stars for valor in combat. There is no V for Silver Stars since they must include said valor in the incident to reach that award. I guess someone would have to scrutinize the citations of Kerry, the guy who he was eulogizing, and who knows who else to see if a bogus V was awarded ...

The basic Sf group is an Op. Dtcmt. Alpha ("A-team") consisting of 1 captain and a bunch of NCOs. Several teams make up a group -- commanded by a Lt. Col. The A-teams are the ones going out into the jungle, {some} of the HQ guys are stationed at firebases, etc.

That may be but the protestors aren't the ones who injured the officer. He injured himself by standing on a skylight and falling through it. I agree what they did was illegal and wrong but 20+ years for something far beyond their control is just wrong. Just because you don't like someones or their actions is no reason to pile undeserved blame on them.

So let me get this right....

Neighbors call the police on Joe because his music is too loud. Officer Friendly is walking up Joe's porch stairs to knock on the door to kindly tell him to keep the volume down. Unfortunately Officer Friendly takes a bad step and falls down and breaks his neck, killing him. You're telling me that Joe should spend hard prison time just because the officer was responding to Joe's little disturbance of his neighbors? Thats stretching it a bit.

Look, I hate standing up for these idiot moonbats but according to the posted article, one of the protestors tried to warn the officer of his dangerous predicament but supposedly he ignored the warning. Not saying this is the whole truth (it is the NYT that did this article after all...), but I think it's grasping at straws to say these guys are 100% responsible. After all, doesn't the normal conservitive view say that you should be responsible for your own actions instead of projecting blame on others?

Chastising taken and apology given.

I had not seen the article where it sated that he was warned about what he was standing on.

However if Joe, and I'm assuming that you meant that Joe was blaring his music on top of another persons high rise, was violating the law in an area that was unsafe to begin with, then yes he is responsible for the cop's injuries. The only reason the officer was in that environment was because of Joe's illegal behavior. That officer was legally bound to respond to a (and lets be honest) gross breach of not only law but also of property rights.

The difference between reality and the case you proposed is that in your case you assumed that the officer made some bonehead everyday f-up like tripping over a stair or an obstacle in a yard. In reality Joe's illegal behavior forced the officer into a unique an dangerous situation that he would otherwise not have entered into.

Sorry for the obtuse language, but I'm just trying to be precise.

No chastisement intended, just pointing out my take on the situation.

I just don't feel a person should be held responsible in this case especially since they intended no bodily harm and didn't actively or intentionally engage in putting the officers in extra danger.

#123, #124 chewydog

The law may be different state-to-state concerning this. After all, many cities will not allow their officers to engage in car chases because sometimes it opens the police up to all kinds of liability if they hurt anyone or anyone's property during said chase. In a siuation like you describe that wouldn't be an issue because they police could just blame Rodney the Carjacker when a patrol car runs over Mrs. Miggins while chasing after him.

Of course car chases in general are a different story, you are actively avoiding arrest and putting the police in a very dangerous spot and the criminal should be held resposible to a (very) large degree.

I can't see where these people put the officer in a situation that was incredibly dangerous, they were standing on a roof that they felt safe on (or they wouldn't have been there themselves I'm sure). Now, i have no clue what the full layout of this rooftop was. If it was all one big glass sun roof or the protestors were in an area were the the officers had to go over one to get to them I will certainly concede the point that they put the officers in harms way and should be prosecuted fully, but if the roof was mostly solid and the officer chose to stand in an inheritly unsafe spot when another, safer one would have sufficed then no, they should not be held responsible.

And one last thing, changing anothers name(or moniker) to something less flattering when you respond to them is a tad... 3rd grade playground-like don't you agree? Can we keep it civil in here, we aren't enemies or anything, just disagreeing.

Read this exchange between Iranian ex-Muslim Ali Sina and some British intellectuals. Notice how much the alliance between Islamofascists and Political Correctness has already eroded Free Speech in the West:

The Islamic Kingdom of England?

We are concerned that authorities scan emails for various keywords and might therefore intercept transmission of our document to you. Whilst we have nothing to fear from a legal point of view, we would prefer to remain anonymous, for reasons of personal safety. Do you have a PO Box address where we could mail a disc, or do you have any other suggestions as to how we could send the electronic document to you?

We will be sending the document from the UK . The UK government is currently introducing legislation to prevent "religious hatred" in direct response to pressure from Islamic groups, to prevent any criticism of Islam. National newspapers have attacked the government's plans, claiming that the new legislation will restrict freedom of speech and make criminals out of those who speak the truth, but the government appears to be pressing ahead regardless, such is the wisdom of our present government. It will become an impressionable offence in this country to speak out against Islam, if this legislation becomes law.

Ali Sina:

What is happening to us? How we came to this that intellectuals and academics are afraid to speak out their minds in their own countries? They are not just afraid of Islamic goons but also of their own government. Where in England heading? This is absurd! Just think about it. The British intellectuals are afraid of the authorities and their own government for speaking the truth about Islam. They are not afraid of being prosecuted. They are prepared to defend their views in any court of law. They are afraid of being eliminated mysteriously! This is the kind of fear the Iranian intellectuals have of their own thuggish Islamic government. But this is England we are talking about! It is the British intellectuals who are afraid of the "authorities" in their own government. Unbelievable!

From Jesus to Muhammad - The number of Germans converting to Islam is rising, many are an ideal prey for fundamentalists

They are active in mosques and Muslim organizations, study or teach Islamic courses, establish Muslim publishing companies or bookstores: Germans who converted to Islam. Some of them even take their religion so seriously that they spend several years at Islamic schools in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan. In some cases, they have drifted into extremism and fought in Chechnya or Bosnia as mujahideen against “disbelievers.“

The number of Germans converting to Islam has risen dramatically in the past few years. For a long time, up to 300 converted to Islam each year. But the number climbed to 800 last year, according to the Islam archives in Soest. Mohammed Selim Abdullah, the head of the archives, says he thinks the rising numbers are linked to the recent wars in the Gulf region.

when Islamic fundamentalists are looking for people in Germany whom they can use for their purposes, young converts have proven to be an ideal target group: They are enthusiastic, want to prove themselves, have severed all their ties and left their western circle of friends behind for the sake of the Muslim community. And there are decisive practical advantages: They have a German passport, can travel without restrictions within Europe, often speak good English and do not look suspicious at all.

Two such cases have become public: The German convert Thomas Fischer from Ulm answered the call for Jihad - which could simply be a call for a faithful way of living depending on how you read the Koran - literally and turned into a fanatic. In 2002, he went to Chechnya to support his Muslim brothers in the war against the Russians and was killed in November 2003.

Steve Smyrek, who used to be a member of the right-wing extremist scene, also converted to Islam. His anti-Jewish attitudes and his propensity for violence made him an ideal candidate for his recruiters. He wanted to die for Allah as a suicide bomber. But when he tried to enter Israel in 1997, he was detained and sentenced to 10 years in prison. In early 2004, he was released in a prisoner swap between Israelis and Palestinians.

Man suspected of aiding Libyan atomic-arms work

A 65-year-old German was arrested Thursday on suspicion of helping Libya develop atomic weapons, federal prosecutors announced. The man was released after paying bail. Officials suspect that Libya paid the man, identified only as Gerhard W., EUR1 million (USD1.2 million) for help in the purchase of gas ultracentrifuges used to enrich uranium. Investigators also searched a house in Switzerland where another suspect, a 61-year-old German identified as Gotthard L., lives. The man who was arrested lives in South Africa. He was detained when German investigators searched two apartments located in the central German state of Hesse.

Suspected 9/11 terrorist wins readmission to German University

Abdelghani Mzoudi, who was acquitted on charges related to the 2001 terror attacks in the United States, has been granted readmission to the University of Hamburg.

The city's Higher Administrative Court ruled on Tuesday that the university admission regulations did not allow the 31-year-old Moroccan to be excluded from the university on the grounds of his “radical Islamist fundamentalist“ views. According to university regulations, a student can be expelled only on the basis of bad grades on certain interim examinations. Mzoudi has been studying computer science and electrical engineering in this German port city.

He was accused of providing support to the suicide pilots who carried out the attacks in New York and Washington on Sept. 11, 2001. He once roomed with one of the terror pilots, Mohammed Atta. But a German court acquitted him in February, citing a lack of evidence. The prosecution is appealing the ruling.
Other Hamburg officials are still trying to deport Mzoudi, maintaining that he has supported international terrorism. The ruling on his university studies will not affect the deportation process, officials said this week.

The Jewish Problem according to the father of the palestinian national anthem, Mikis Theodorakis.

Here are some excerpts:

"I don't believe there is anti-Semitism in Europe. There is a reaction against the policy of Sharon and Bush. I think it's artificial to think there is a new anti-Semitism. It's an excuse. It's a way to avoid self-criticism. Rather than ask themselves what is wrong with the policy of Israel, Jews say the Europeans are against us because of the new anti-Semitism. Because they don't love us. And even Theodorakis says we are at the root of evil. This is a sick reaction."

It's not over...

"In America the Jewish community is very strong. It controls much of the economy. Certainly the mass media.

"Let me make myself clear: When the State of Israel was established, we were on the side of Israel. There was great sympathy toward Zionism because of what they suffered in the war. This is one side of the Jews. But the international Jewish community is also a negative phenomena. The Jewish people now appear to control the big banks. And often the governments. So whatever bad or evil comes from the governments, it's natural for ordinary people to associate that with the Jewish people."

Last but not least...

What is the Jewish influence on the Bush policy?

"I believe that the war in Iraq and the aggressive attitude toward Iran is greatly influenced by the Israeli secret services."

The Jews have so much power that they can direct the policy of the world's only superpower?

"There is a group of Jews who surround Bush and control the policy of the United States."

So the Jews pull the strings behind Bush?

"No. They are in the front."

America, the great superpower, is actually controlled today by the Jews?

"Yes."

What are the intentions of the Jews who control President Bush?

"The main front is the Arabs. They believe that by hitting the Arabs they could help Israel survive. They give a military solution to the problem of the future existence of Israel."

But the present American policy is a reaction to 9/11. It's a response to the threat of bin Laden.

"First you have to ask who is bin Laden. There are peculiar things here. He worked for the Americans in the past. Even when 9/11 happened, he could have been working for the U.S. secret services.

"I don't want to say that those who hit the Twin Towers were Americans themselves. It would be madness to say it. But American technology was used in 9/11."

Is it possible that it was a provocation?

"In the U.S., there are many forces. There are super patriots there. I think the part bin Laden played is suspicious."

What you are saying is that there was some sort of American conspiracy here.

"I don't believe that these barefoot men of Afghanistan did it. That's a joke. Not even Japanese technology could do it. Not even German technology."

Is it possible that the Mossad played a part in 9/11?

"The Mossad has the technology. But even they are not a superpower. American controls everything."

I would take that even further and say....it's fear of a fight!

European 'anti-semitism' = anti-Sharon policies reaction = fear of a fight.

Sharon's policies have been 'confrontational' rather than appeasement or endless meetings or 'more aid'. Sharon has, to quote Kerry, turned his nation's boat into the action and it's scares the hell out of a lot of people.

Of course, no one WANTS a fight but it would be better to examine exactly what you fear than to go into the fetal position politically in order to avoid the free-floating societal fear of confronting the insanity, say, of the Palestinians' behaviour in the face of failure. Or 'European neo-anti-semitism' and whether, maybe, it's the Europeans' fear of another world-war. They suffered so much in the last one, on both sides, that they are responding with the classic knee-jerk 'dont' rock the boat' syndrome and the Jews are perceived to be 'rocking the boat' by confronting the Arab 'street' rather than 'making arrangements'. So much nicer, don't you know, especially if you're Chirac.

It looks like some of these narcissistic fools received a New York welcome.

During the ride, bikers chanted anti-Bush slogans, caused widespread traffic jams and, in some places, argued with drivers.
One SUV took matters into its own hands when it mowed down a rider after being stuck in traffic near West Houston and Mercer streets just after 7:30 p.m., cops said.
The white Land Rover plowed through the cyclists, slightly injuring one man and crushing two bicycles before fleeing the scene, cops and witnesses said. The injured man refused medical attention.
One witness jotted down the SUV's plate number, which Department of Motor Vehicle records identified as being registered to Ill Na Na Entertainment — a record label that represents musicians, including rapper Foxy Brown.

De Villepin urges heightened security at religious sites

French Interior Minister Dominique de Villepin on Friday called for increased security at religious sites amid a troubling rise in the number of racist and anti-Semitic acts committed across the country. "The multiplication of racist and anti-Semitic acts is a reality in our country. We must work to better understand the reasons in order to better fight against them," de Villepin told the afternoon paper Le Monde in an interview.

Earlier this week, the French minister said that 160 violent anti-Semitic acts had been committed in the first seven months of the year, as compared with 75 such acts during the same period last year. De Villepin explained to Le Monde that while 11 of those 160 acts could be attributed to far-right activists and 50 of them to "individuals of Arab-Muslim descent", 99 of them had been committed for "reasons that remain unclear".

De Villepin noted that the recent spate of attacks has touched "all religions, Christians and Muslims. The number of anti-Muslim acts has multiplied dangerously." "I refuse to accept that religion has become a factor of division and hate in our country," he said.

I always liked the idea of angry leftists leaving en masse.

OT: Regarding left-wing intolerance:
What follows is a local story that didn't make the news:
Mike Rosen, a local talk show host here in Colo,
revealed a story about a local man who encountered the hatred of the left, in Telluride, CO.
This man and his family (wife and three daughters) are from Denver, and they drove up to Telluride for a weekend family wedding. He is a Republican, and his car has various pro-Bush bumper sticker on the back. Well, he parked at the hotel in Telluride and the next morning he discovered his vehicle had been vandalized by tolerant loving leftists: Cheese was mashed into the windshield wipers and his pro-Bush bumper stickers were blacked out with permanent black marker. Written on the car with the same black marker were a swastika and various uber-tolerant anti-Bush statements (like F*ck Bush)

The story goes on and I wont go into it (the same guy wore a pro-Bush t-shirt into a restaurant in Telluride and the waiter told him he should "be careful" and that something might happen to his food etc..)
(I would have called the police after a comment like that, but that's me.)

Needless to say, this didn't make the news.

See how wonderfully kind and toleratn lefties are.

Hate to post OT and run, but my brother in law should be calling soon to arrange our swinging visit to Galveston, perhpas to sample the Gulf waters, which cooled off Texas to 27.5C after the strong early August cold front, but has warmed up more than I thought it would, back to about 29.5C, which means if we ever get anything in the Gulf (which won't be Frances, Gaston or Hermine) it could really crank. Autumn cold fronts start arriving in the Gulf about the third week of September, so it is a shrinking window of opportunity for this year.

Forecast track of TD #7. TD #7 is looking better, and I wouldn't at all be surprised by an upgrade to Tropical Storm Gaston when the update comes out in less than an hour.

Hurricane Frances approaches Bahamas in 5 days on its way to hit near where Gaston will have dropped a lot of rain.

Hurricane Frances is looking quite awesome.

Wildcard in all this is the system about 30N, 66W which could become TD #8 or Tropical Storm Hermine.

It could produce interactions, as noted by Joe Bastardi at [Link: pro.accuweather.com...] (for $9/month, great bargain) which could affect both Gaston and Frances.

Although it still looks like somewhere along the Carolina coast will get a strong tropical storm of Cat 1 hurricane (Gaston) followed by a Cat 2 or Cat 3 Frances a week later. (JB also mentioned that Gaston may actually provide a small benefit to the Carolinas. While it will fill streams and reservoirs, ensuring Frances' floods will be devastating, the cool water it upwells off the Carolina coast should cause Frances to weaken slightly as it approaches).

Good morning! Get ready for the neocon-zionist consiracy circus to start:

FBI Probes if Official Spied for Israel

In a spy investigation that could strain U.S.-Israeli relations and muddy the Bush administration's Middle East policy, the FBI (news - web sites) is investigating whether a Pentagon (news - web sites) analyst fed to Israel secret materials about White House deliberations on Iran.
The officials refused to identify the Pentagon employee under investigation but said the person is an analyst in the office of Douglas J. Feith, undersecretary of defense for policy, the Pentagon's No. 3 official (and neocon cabal member - ed).
The link to Feith's office also could prove politically sensitive for the Bush administration.
He also oversaw the Pentagon's defunct Office of Special Plans, which critics said fed policy-makers uncorroborated prewar intelligence on President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s Iraq, especially involving purported ties with the al-Qaida terror network. Pentagon officials have said the office was a small operation that provided fresh analysis on existing intelligence.

FBI docs say China funded Kerry
The legal watchdog group Judicial Watch announced the release of recently declassified documents that indicate Sen. John Kerry accepted laundered contributions from the communist Chinese government for his 1996 re-election campaign.

In exchange, Judicial Watch suspects, the presidential candidate might have arranged meetings between Chinese aerospace executives and U.S. government officials.

"These disturbing FBI documents raise further questions about Sen. Kerry's involvement in what looks like a quid pro quo [cash for meetings] with the communist Chinese," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

An Insight magazine report published by WND earlier this month revealed a new photograph has emerged showing the Massachusetts senator in Beijing working with a company associated with the Chinese military.

Judicial Watch obtained the FBI documents, related to the "Chinagate" investigation in the 1990s, through Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act. kerry

Worry not...I saw plenty of W04 & Bush Cheney stickers in Lassen & Shasta counties this week! Amazing as this is the home base of stoned out hackey sack dreadlock wank stains.

California may be a real surprise, although there hasn't been a straight election in San Francisco (fired election supervisors, ballots floating in the bay, dead people voting for the new 49ers stadium) as long as I've been here.

250 bicycle demonstrators arrested on Friday night

Late Friday, about 250 bicyclists were arrested during a mass protest that passed Madison Square Garden, the first major police crackdown on demonstrators. Bikers chanted anti-Bush slogans, stifled traffic and, in some places, argued with motorists and yelled at police officers. Organizers of the monthly Critical Mass ride estimated there were about 5,000 participants.

Police Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said the cyclists had caused “massive disruptions” and endangered motorists trying to drive through the city.

--

Protesters also promise to be wherever delegates and party heavyweights are celebrating and sightseeing. They plan to start early Tuesday by harassing Republicans at a breakfast at the Tavern on the Green restaurant in Central Park, and some have suggested targeting daily sightseeing tours organized for delegates.

Activists have designated Tuesday as an official day of civil disobedience, aimed at the offices of corporations with links to the Bush family or the Republican Party. Sit-ins, street theater and even vandalism might erupt. That evening, groups plan to swarm the streets around the Garden. They purposely did not seek permits for actions on Tuesday.

It's really quite simple...

1. Leftist yahoo blocks your car, chanting moronic rhetoric.
2. Get out of your car.
3. Grab the numb-nut by the straps of his helmet.
4. Smash his face on the front bumper of your car.
5. Set him back on his bike, pat him on the head and send him on his way.

Repeat as required.

I'm with you Charles.

It always bothered me to be lumped in with these hippy freaks when I ride my bike around.

Why do I ride my bike?

Because I live in the SF Bay Area (East Bay), and ya know what, half the time it's faster to ride someplace than to drive and try to find parking. Gas is also rather expensive. Oh yeah, and the drivers here are morons.

The weather's great, so it's 1) cheaper and 2) takes less time, and 3) helps keep my blood pressure under control so why not ride?

It's not a political statement, ya freaks.

David
