Burkett Smears Bloggers

Fri, Sep 24, 2004 at 4:52:34 pm PDT

In a new interview at CNN, Bill Burkett doggedly clings to the ridiculous line that the fraudulent Killian memos may still be proven genuine: Burkett: ‘Jury still out’ on memos CBS aired.

And Burkett also climbs aboard the blog-smear bandwagon, claiming that the “White House” launched “coordinated attacks” on him that had nothing to do with the validity of the documents.

Once again for the record, since CNN sees fit to print Burkett’s paranoid, self-serving smears with no hint of skepticism, I have never been in contact with anyone from the Republican National Committee or the White House about the CBS Killian memos. These allegations are incredibly schtoopid, and blatantly dishonest.

(CNN) — Bill Burkett, who gave CBS News the alleged documents about President Bush’s National Guard service, insists “the jury is still out” on whether those documents are authentic.

“The documents have not been conclusively proven false,” Burkett said. “Neither have they been proven authentic. That jury is still out.”

Burkett has been under intense media scrutiny since he was revealed as the source of the documents.

On Thursday, he replied via email to a series of questions from CNN.

Burkett said he expected CBS to use its “massive and superlative abilities” to authenticate the documents prior to broadcast.

He also accused “incompetent” CBS staff of revealing his name to other news organizations, despite an agreement to protect his identity as the source of the material.

Burkett also accused the White House of using the blog community to launch a “kill the messenger campaign” against him after the documents were made public.

“The coordinated attacks against the documents, then against me, which CBS did nothing to deflect or defend, and then against Dan Rather and CBS producer Mary Mapes have not been against the validity of the documents, but rather as an attack against anything being considered at all,” he said.

"massive and superlative abilities to authenticate"
So this is what he assumed. Just send out the docs and let CBS handle the rest.

So, a "kill the messenger" attack against him was initiated by the likes of Charles after the documents aired. That's a high compliment to the bloggers, actually, seeing as how no one knew who the hell he was for the first few days. Apparently that Old Rove Magic is contagious.

6 CCR  Fri, Sep 24, 2004 2:58:46pm

No, it's not a "Kill the Messenger" campaign directed at him. The KtM campaign is against Rather. Burkett is the target of the "Have the messenger comitted to an institution where he can get the help he needs" campaign.

Excellent, excellent!!

I hope the mainstream media features him and his association with Joe Lockhart and Dan Rather every day until the election.

More Scandinavian "artistic" anti-Semitism, this time in Norway:

Israeli envoy objects to Norwegian artwork

The artwork, by a late sculptor named Sigurd Bjoern Engvik and titled "Wall: Fragments of History," represents an abuse of freedom of speech, Herzl said in her letter. The artwork combines symbols and inscriptions, depicting the star of David drenched in blood, dollar signs, and words such as "murder," "Sabra" and "Shatila," a reference to the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon where hundreds of people were killed in September 1982 with the complicity of the Israeli armed forces.

"Criticism is important, legitimate and part of the democratic system," Herzl said, but "when the criticism gives associations to Holocaust and includes blood-dripping stars of David and implications of greed through the use of dollar signs," she asked, " is this then political criticism or is it something completely different?

The sculpture also incorporates the date Nov. 29, 1947 - the day on which the United Nations approved the creation of two states, one Arab and the other Israeli - allied to the word "Israel," followed immediately by the word "holocaust," with a star of David inserted between each letter.

"To associate the creation of Israel with a Holocaust is the worst possible association," the Israeli ambassador's spokesman, Tamar Rahamimoff-Honig, said.

A local official said the sculpture would be removed "in three or four weeks as part of the normal rotation of artworks."

Youngstorget square "is the place where political opinions are traditionally expressed in Norway, and it is not for us to decide what is acceptable or not," the official, Oscar Halvorsen, said.

Standard MSM smear techniques:
1) Refer to individual as right-wing.
2) Claim that there are allegations someone is connected to the RNC or some other grand conspiracy.
3) Never check facts. Always make it out to be a debate, even if one side is just Carville or McAuliffe on PCP. Hey, the essential truth they are on PCP is evident. One must prove these critical allegations to be false. Their behavior is alleged by experts to resemble the behavior of someone on PCP.

CNN is, and always has been, overtly partisan for the Democrats. Their 'political analyst' Bill Schneider is nothing but a cheerleader. Anyone who claims otherwise obviously is a Democratic operative hitting the crack pipe.

I hate to point it out, but.....nobody has conclusively disproved the "Time Travel Theory". Can anyone state with ABSOLUTE certainty that Col. Killian did not travel to year 2004, stay long enough to learn how to use a PC and MS Word, create the spiffy looking documents, then travel back to 1972 and deposit the memos in his file (that he left with Lucy Ramirez for safekeeping)?

I though not!

Israeli Wall to Grab Land: UN

JERUSALEM, 25 September 2004 — Israel is building its wall on West Bank land not to keep out bombers but to grab the land and put pressure on Palestinians to move away, a UN human rights investigator said yesterday.

“There is no compelling evidence that bombers could not have been as effectively prevented from entering Israel if the wall had been built along the Green Line — the accepted border between Israel and Palestine — or within the Israeli side of the Green Line,” John Dugard said in a report to the UN General Assembly in New York.

A controversial subject in his work has been the struggle for a personal, public resolution of his country's participation in the Holocaust. For Kiefer, the railroad tracks are symbols of the transportation of Jews to the concentration camps. Another essential theme is the destructive, transformative powers of fire, with its intense heat. For the artist, transformation of the land is a metaphor for human suffering. The burned canvas and the coating of ashes reinforces the bleakness and desolation of his barren painted landscape.

I think we might be seeing a fair bit of Burkett over the next few weeks. Maybe he will take up a seat next to Katie Couric & her favorite guest, Kitty Kelley.

He has a valuable talent - spewing venom at anything that looks remotely Republican.
I was worried that he would file a lawsuit and his lawyer would tell him to shut his crazy yap, but since he is such a nutter I don't even think good legal advice could shut him up.

I bet he is enjoying this notoriety. Everyone sticking a microphone in his face is probably a dream come true!

It continues to shock me how vicious people can be when it comes to the Jews. It's so hurtful.

In a letter to the culture ministry and Oslo city authorities, the envoy, Liora Herzl, denounced a statue on display in the central Youngstorget square that links Israel with the Holocaust, greed and a notorious massacre of Palestinians.

What "notorious massacre of Palestinians"!? Apparently it's the second piece of Jew-hating "art" they've exhibited this year.

It was the second time this year that Herzl has intervened over a perceived insult in a work of art.

In February, an Olso art gallery removed a painting from display after Herzl charged that it offended Jews.

The painting, "Antisemite in the Name of God" by a local artist, Chris Reddy, formed part of an exhibition designed to challenge anti-Semitism. It incorporated the words "Israel" and "U.S.A." in which the letter "S" had been replaced by a Nazi swastika.

It's a perceived insult by those sensitive Jews. The world is diseased, especially Europe.

Slightly OT but of interest on a hostage released in Iraq:

A Canadian woman working in Iraq, kidnapped several days ago, along with a male Canadian journalist, were freed in Iraq. She was interviewed on Anderson Cooper/360 on CNN tonight and said something amazing; she said she used to be against the war and the American 'occupation'. She said "it made her so mad". But she said tonight, while in custody (and they both thought they were going to die--several times), something inside her changed with regard to the war and the occupation. She didn't elaborate too much except to say that it had to do with seeing little kids, no matter how young, as long as they could hold a gun, being sent to fight in the streets against the soldiers.

I'd love to hear more about it but there didn't seem to be time on Anderson's show which moves pretty fast.

Here's a link which tells the story of her rescue but the quotes as to her feelings about the hostage-takers, etc. aren't there. Apparently she argued with them for the four days of their capture in order to keep them alive and at one point she was sure these angry terrorists were going to kill her and she said she wanted her co-hostage, a journalist named Scott, also Canadian, to be the last thing she saw when she died. She said "I didn't want to die looking into the angry eyes--so angry--of some terrorist, I wanted to see someone I trusted as I died". That's as near as I remember what she said though it may not be exact.

I'm curious as to what she will have to say once she writes the story but there's still some more people who are kidnapped and she can't say too much now, obviously, or it might jeopardize them. But the snippet she did give of the "angry eyes" and "having something inside me change about the 'occupation' and the little kids being given guns" intrigued me.

This should put to rest any doubts as to CBS's standards or partisanship:

CBS Planning Another Anti-Bush Hit Job?

The CBS scandal gets worse every day. Now, in an amazing twist, Michael Isikoff of Newsweek was on Chris Matthews' MSNBC "Hardball" show last Wednesday night claiming that CBS had been planning to air a story about the White House using forged documents to make the case for war against Iraq.

CBS, reportedly, postponed the story so it could go on the air attacking President Bush on the National Guard issue. It backfired when 60 Minutes itself got caught using forged documents. Still, Isikoff indicates that 60 Minutes is planning to air the anti-Bush piece, perhaps as early as Sunday night, September 26.

there is only one big problem -the anti-Bush story, as described by Isikoff and eagerly embraced by Democrat partisan Matthews, is completely false. It's as phony as those National Guard documents.

It also will put to rest any notions that Rather or Burkett or Mapes have some bit of blackmailing influence which explains their actions.

CBS is obviously desperate to get their candidate elected and will sacrifice anything towards that end.

I saw something along the same lines recently. It was in interview with Palestinian parents. They were surprised to find that their son had become a suicide bomber and they were upset.

The mother said something along the lines of --Why don't they tell these lies to their own children and send their own sons and daughters!

#54 foreign devil, from your link:

A Chicago-based Army National Guard unit ferried a Canadian woman to freedom Tuesday after she said she was held hostage by Iraqi captors for 16 days, Army officials said.

Did you say National Guard rescued the Canadian woman? Wow. More bad news for Dan, Michael and Kerry.

86 Geepers  Fri, Sep 24, 2004 4:34:11pm

Look who else is smearing bloggers:

Brokaw Takes Shot at Bloggers and Paints Dan Rather as a Victim

"It's a difficult time for anyone who's in the news business and you know we all like to be aggressive about what we're doing and cover the next big story. And then occasionally you'll get caught in something like this.
"So I do feel bad for Dan. He's had a long and distinguished career. This is not something I am persuaded that he's out to do deliberately despite what some bloggers will say or radio talk show hosts will say. I think he was really trying to get at a big story about the President's National Guard service. And they got stung by some documents and it's too bad but they've now launched an internal investigation and it's probably best if we all just sit back and see how that turns out."

So Tom Brokaw doesn't think Danny Boy or Ms. Mapes need to be "aggressively investigated" and we should just "sit back" and eat the shit CBS feeds us with a spoon.

Hey Tom, boy you must think we're really stupid.

You know, maybe Mr. Kerry is NOT signing Form 180 for reasons that have nothing to do with whether his wounds merited medals or not.

Maybe he is concealing SOMETHING ELSE - something different and more sinister, such as a medical incident or condition that would really put a big question mark on his suitability to be POTUS.

---------------

Also: Did anyone ever ask Mr. Kerry if he smoked pot or used drugs? If not, they should. Mr. Clinton got asked that question. Wouldn't the mental fog and confusion caused by dtug abuse explain inconsistent and erratic memory and judgment deficits, such as opinions that change day to day?

Read your article, thought it was excellent. Yes, the problem is that the Left keeps searching for "root causes", instead of condemning the terrorism itself; they did it even as recently as the Beslan atrocity, trying to put all the blame on the Russian government, and not on the killers.

This kind of thing's been going on since the 70's, when Yassir Arafish was canonized. I wish society at large would open its eyes, and stop making all these excuses. . .

Damnation, I reckon the powers that be have reckoned we ain't been f****d with enough in Florida yet. I ain't got all the trees cleaned up outta the yard from last time.

So either I'm a slacker that ain't cleaned up all my downed trees yet or, as I prefer to think of it, I'm lettin' my firewood...uh....season. Yeah, that's it. I'm actually gettin' a head start on firewood for next winter. I ain't procrastinatin', I'm actually AHEAD of schedule.

What is really sad is that I can't work up enough enthusiasm for this storm to even go to the Krispy Kreme store and pick up my emergency food supplies. Now that's sad. Reckon my diet for next summer might be startin' a mite early if I don't get more enthusiastic by tomorrow a.m.

I realize this is seriously off topic because everybody was discussing Bill Burkett's credibility but what the hell, he's dumber than an armadillo and less attractive and I hate to waste a FDNT talkin' smack about the mentally handicapped. John Kerry, bless his heart, might as well just hold up a big ol' sign sayin' "I AM A DIPSHIT" instead of strainin' his voice givin' speeches which demonstrate just how big of a dipshit he is.

What about the facts guys? Who really cares who I am? No really? I barely care, but Sgt. Tom, it's not cool to try to go the "let's get this guy fired route." Much like Dan Rather.

Hmmm I'm detecting a trend. Try and question a guys military record and then try to get him fired from his job. Wow! Bingo!

Well for a start, you show respect to earn respect, you haven't "earned" anything here but our contempt. And you don't "deserve" anything.

You've been posting here a whole 10 hours and you feel you have the right to judge us, make blanket condemnations of everyone here and back that up with "read the blog"?

I was just thinking the same thing, except with sardines and smoked oysters...and beer involved.

I'm afraid that the repairs on most of the state aren't strong enough to deal with another +50 wind.

I'm too tired of it all to worry about it. Hell, I just got the house put back together sort of.

Yeah, some of our friends still have about a foot of water across their roads yet and are still takin' canoes to their houses. The ground is still so wet that trees are just spontaneously toppling (at least it looks that way to me) and once winds reach about 50 mph, we gonna have some widespread power outages. I dunno, maybe the trees just have "issues".

One of the neighbors told me this evening that they were really tired of their carpet anyway. Yep. And my roof is sooooooo last year (G). I'm REALLY tired of it.

what's not cool is to take the 13 year old boy tack and lay claim to things as a poster with no proof and disparage others in the process (have you ever served).
my problem, aside from getting in and out of the gate every day under the watchful eyes of the mps, is with people who lay claim to service, but are too ashamed to back that up.

if you served, you served in a unit. unless you were other-than-honorable discharge, you shouldn't have any issues with sharing the unit assignments -- everyone else here has at various times (all you have to do is search and you'll find everyone owns up to their units).

and your claims of being unafraid (total bullshit, you've never been afraid, you've never handled explosives), and not needing to sound off like you have a pair with your unit... well, that tells me everything i need to know about a cheap poser. you think that's personal? i think pretending to be a soldier is personal.

"The Jury is still out". I like that analogy. The jury_*IS*_ out. They went out for pizza and a beer a week ago, and they're not coming back because the jury was dismissed. Everybody else is out too, they're going about their normal lives. Dan Rather is hiding in some hole, but Bill Burkett is still standing on his street corner yelling "Look at me! Look at me!" Sheesh!

#202 & 203

Sorry, no pics. I will post a pic of myself on the blog someday, right after I learn step 2 after making a link look like a word. I'm that 'far' along.

I've never been in the military. My grandpa won the DSC while losing his shoulder. My dad served four years in two Japanese prison camps. As wonderful as all that sounded, eh, I decided not to serve. I wish they would let me join now. I'm still stupid enough to charge into gunfire. It's a gift from my father's side of the family. Although one of my mother's ancestors was a great Polish cavalry general also.

Why military service is somehow considered a prerequisite for conversations about military affairs is a mystery to me. Lincoln and FDR served no time in the military. I'm a military geek. My previously mentioned grandfather authored the founding legislation for the VA when he was a congressman. I'd support the troops any way I could. I would leave the military strategy to the generals and admirals. Give them a job, the stuff, then let them do it. U.S. Grant was probably our worst president.

Sgt Twit,

P.S. I'm not ashamed of sh*t. I'm proud of my service and never bring it up unless some A-hole with his chest out calls me out on it. I'm getting tired of it and not going to speak anymore of it.

If I was enlisted/commisoned right now I'd go and fight whatever war. Probably complain about lack of tail and beer, finish my tour (if stoploss didn't keep me till I retire) come back. If I didn't believe in it(the war), and I thought that U.S. soldiers were doing immoral, unpleasant things, or our Gov't was doing likewise I'd Fr!cking stand up and say something about it!

I'm not saying that this war is immoral or unethical, I just don't think we should have been there in the first place. Now that we're there, well hell! Give them the troops, firepower, beans and bullets to get the job done d@mnit! It's a mess already, but Bush's mess in my opinion.

Who's looking out for the welfare of our Men and women over there?

Why did it take 7 months to give 40,000 soldiers at the start of the war still without Interceptor vests, designed to stop a round from an AK-47. etc. etc. etc.

you've got little children, and you've just posted your address and telephone. hopefully charles will be deleting that shortly, but given the tendency of the islamofascists, i would worry about putting that out there. i post with impunity knowing that i'm behind a military firewall.

it is much less personally revealing to indicate what units you served in than to provide your current address and phone number. for instance, my boss is a retired rear admiral, two star, and served on the kitty hawk (don't you love the joint service concept, that an army nco works with a navy admiral?).

the fact that you have avoided one set of answers but provided an alternate set of more personal answers sets people on edge.... make sense?

Thanks for all the concern, y'all, but I'm just bitchin' and moanin' cause I'm pissed about another screwed up weekend. The upside (and there is one) of the hurricane season is that before I spend any time or energy cleanin' the house, I check with the weather channel. Hurricane warning = no housecleaning done here. Oh, snap, I REALLY wanted to shampoo that carpet, but no can do--hurricane warning!

If the pecan and oak trees end up as an integral part of the house, I'll be right unhappy for awhile 'bout livin' in a tent or yurt or plywood and tin shanty (what! No internet access?) until we can rebuild, but then we gonna build us a concrete dome house after chainsawing all the trees on the property (yep, retaliation). The last storm, the big trees understood the chainsaw pep talk and dropped their big branches away from the house. I think I'll walk around 'em a couple times tomorrow and rev that sucker a few times as a reminder.

#215 Aviator --

I also read a newspaper article within the past couple weeks about bogus voter registrations in MD & attempts to clean up the rolls there (phooey, where's my print-out? wasn't Balto. Sun).

I served as a Pollworker (precint supervisor, in fact) in Orange County a couple times, including 1996, when Bob Dornan lost to Sanchez. Hispanic orgs were implicated in registering non-citizens, including illegal aliens, mostly from Mexico. IIRC, Hermandad was one of them, but they've been in trouble over a lot of things, including internal power struggles (anyone who has paid access to LA Times morgue...).

Based on past reports I've dug up over the years, watch out for Hermandad, La Raza, a Haitian pro-illegal alien org. in Dade County, DNC, Calif state DNC...

Motor Voter should be repealed and every state pass a law like Arizona's upcoming Prop. 200, requiring proof of citizenship to register, and ID at the polls.

If any lgfers can sign up to be a pollworker in their local precincts, maybe we can help prevent some of this voter fraud? I managed to turn away a number of Hispanics who did not speak English and a couple of non-English/non-Spanish speakers (remember, passing an English language proficiency test is supposed to be a requirement to become a citizen), and could not be found listed on the rolls by the names/addresses they gave me. "Referred to the Registrar's Office to ensure they were registered and sent to their proper polling place."

Um, I was new a few weeks ago but had enough courtesy and common sense not to introduce myself by being a smart ass.

Over the threads I have seen people that have said they voted in the past as a Democrat or a Republican. I have seen a scattering of people from other countries. There is not any particuliar party or background represented in these forums. The only common factor that I have seen is a conservative viewpoint on a variety of issues. Some people get emotional on certain topics but overall things are discussed, links to articles are posted, and viewpoints about topics are mentioned.

The response you received was not due to being new, it was due to you being rude when asked politely to not post phone numbers. If you acted civil in the first place then you would not have received such a reaction.

291 The Other Les  Fri, Sep 24, 2004 7:17:35pm

Just got a hat tip from More Eclispe Ramblings about this story about President Bush's service in the TANG.

On Thursday, Morrisey said the argument that Bush got off easy by being in the National Guard doesn't take into consideration the context of the 1960s.

``Bush and the others were flying several flights day or night over the Gulf of Mexico to identify the unknown,'' he said. ``The Cold War was a nervous time. You never knew. There were other things going on equally important to the country, and the Air National Guard had a primary role in it.''

Morrisey said the commander he worked for at the unit in Texas was sent there to rebuild the image of the unit. There were only two to four pilot training slots given to them per year, he said. Individuals questioned by an evaluation board and then chosen by the commander had to be the best.

``Bush was selected and he turned out just fine,'' he said.

According to Morrisey, after Bush began working as a fighter pilot, he became regarded as one of the best pilots there. Unit commander Col. Maurice Udell considered Bush to be one of his top five pilots, Morrisey said.

``The kid did good,'' he said.

Each pilot had to perform alert duty where they patrolled for unidentified aircraft during the threat of the Cold War, Morrisey said.

``Bush Jr. did good for us,'' Morrisey said. ``He pulled alert and he did it all.''

I must confess that in one respect I agree with Mr. Kerry. We should work to put more light on the President's service in the Texas ANG.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!

before afganistan and iraq Iran had the taliban and bin landen on the east and a very weak Iraq on the west
not a good situation for the west or the world...

Iran as a result of GW's wise Decision is now surrounded by other than weak or friendly countries abd the US has a very strong jump point if needed...and also a much closer vantage point to see exactly what is going on there...

Someone said, "Kerry voted against the Iraq Supply Bill."

Ahhh my favorite NeoCon Talking Point lie tonight.

Let us reflect....and maybe some will get learned! ;-)

Kerry's vote last year against the administration's $87 billion proposal to fund troops in Iraq and pay for Iraqi reconstruction has also been the focus of Republican attacks. "My opponent and his running mate voted against this money for bullets, and fuel, and vehicles, and body armor," Bush said last night.

Kerry actually supported all those things, but as part of a different version of the bill opposed by the administration. At the time, many Republicans were uncomfortable with the administration's plans and the White House had to threaten a veto against the congressional version to bring reluctant lawmakers in line.

In a floor statement explaining his vote, Kerry said he favored the $67 billion for the troops on the ground -- "I support our troops in Iraq and their mission" -- but faulted the administration's $20 billion request for reconstruction. He complained that administration "has only given us a set of goals and vague timetables, not a detailed plan."

Yesterday, the State Department said that only $1 billion of that money has been spent in the 11 months since the bill was passed.

Which is how I've ended up working for a charity. School doesn't seem to work out to one's job, just enriches our minds.

#380, Swampwoman. The hot tempered snot nosed shitbirds are best stewed in their own own juices but have never been known to provide any real sustanence. You can take a shot at them any time they appear in the open and in many states of the South and West they even pay a bounty. The only sure way to get rid of them is banning, but that takes the sport out of the sport. Tonights snotnosed shitbirds are of two types, the one being a self described sexual intellectual (also known as a fucking wise guy), and the other is the common sophmore (wise fool with little of the wise and lots of the fool). If you ever want to study this bird species up close and in their natural habitat, just take a tour through the DU site.

And maybe you should read here.

Link

"As for the accuracy of the Republican veterans' accusations, they can be tested against the testimony of the men who served under Kerry's command -- all of whom but one have repeatedly endorsed his courage, his decency, and his candidacy. Denigration of Kerry's record should also be measured against the sterling evaluations that he received during the actual time of his service, including by Adm. Roy Hoffman, who now chairs the Swift Boat Veterans group.

No doubt the Republicans hope that attacking Kerry will distract from important issues they would prefer not to discuss or debate. But their campaign is backfiring, as drawing fresh attention to Vietnam does not flatter the candidate who avoided service there."

Maybe it is that GW only served FULL years and not weekends and racked up over 900 points that has them confused.
I mean, he didn't get any bandaid Purple Hearts so I guess that is the strike against him that really upsets them.
And Kerry has been so upfront. Let me see now
won't let anyone see how THK's foundations spends it $$$
won't sign form 180 and let anyone see his records in the military
and cares so much about taxes for the rich that in Mass. where you can check a box to pay a slightly larger state tax if you wealthy, ........my, my......the Kerry family declined.

Saturday morning WaPo:

Source for Rather Seeks New Lawyer, Might Sue CBS

By Michael Dobbs
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, September 25, 2004; Page A08

Former Texas National Guard officer Bill Burkett, who provided CBS News with possibly fraudulent documents purporting to show that President Bush shirked his Guard duty, is looking for a lawyer to pursue a possible defamation case against the network.

Burkett is angry with CBS and anchor Dan Rather for disclosing his identity after promising him anonymity, his current attorney, Gabriel Quintanilla, said yesterday. Quintanilla said Burkett's life had become "pure hell" since Monday, when Rather disclosed on the "CBS Evening News" that Burkett was the network's confidential and "unimpeachable" source for the controversial documents.

Burkett has had little luck finding a lawyer to represent him. His first attorney, David Van Os of San Antonio, bowed out because he was involved in the initial negotiations with CBS and feels a conflict of interest. Quintanilla said he is suffering from severe back problems and cannot handle the deluge of calls and messages in an incident that, he said, has generated more conspiracy theories than the "grassy knoll" did in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

A third lawyer, Lin Wood of Atlanta, who represented former Olympic Games security guard Richard Jewell in a successful defamation suit against several news organizations, said yesterday that he had declined a request from Quintanilla to take the Burkett case. Wood pleaded "time constraints" as well as his "high regard for CBS News."

"It appears highly questionable that he has a legitimate defamation claim" against CBS, said Wood, noting that his opinion was based on news reports about the case rather than privileged information.

OT-

Excuse me if someone has already raised this possibility, but wouldn't this be the proper moment for the US Senate to act on a censure resolution against Senator Kerry (D-MA) for his remarks Thursday denigrating the role and status of acting prime minister Allawi of Iraq. I cannot think of a more innapropriate statement for a US Senator to make regarding a key ally in time of war. Kerry's remarks can only be seen as directly contributing to the destabilization of the current UN endorsed Iraqi government, and give aid, comfort, and support to the terrorist insurgent movement in Iraq, and throughout the muslim world. Regardless of Kerry's current candidate status, he is obligated to maintain and fulfill the responsibilities and duties of the US Senate. His colleagues should not stand for this behavior, and it is there responsibility to call him out and hold him accountable.

On Censure

I believe it was such a gross violation of Senate ethics, bordering on treason, that the Senate has a duty to proceed with censure. A Presidential election should not be a protective shield enabling a national office holder to attack our allies and endanger our troops without fear of immediate consequence. The Senate should put the American people on notice as to what a grave and treacherous step Kerry has taken.

S&Dman, pop this.

You know there is not to many talk about the points Bush during the time he was in the TANG. I know the Rush taked about it one day. Well I found a article down in .Knoxville, Tennessee that talked about them.

I have been with the Air Force for 25 years and as I understand if you have 50 points you do not have to come in. In the article: "Bush averaged 176 per year. In no year did he have less that 50," says Morrisey. "He was rated by his commander, Col. Maurice Udell in the top 5 of his pilots."

That Col that was taking in the article also said that Bush need to have over 500 hours to be able to go to South East Asia. MSM do not talk about that.

Been playing armchair psychologist and looking at how others have described him as well as comments he has made.

1. Like Kerry, he seems to criticize complain about how everyone else does things

2. Described as "direct" .-- "strong beliefs" --"strong democrat" and "high standards" "sticker for rules"

Diplomatic words for anal, controlling, self-righteous pain in the ass.

He is also described as intelligent --not stupid or dumb.
And, while the impression was given that he was ignored by the Kerry campaign --he is an active democrat in Texas and respected. Not a "kook."

What comes across is that he is "always right" and everyone else is always wrong.

I am beginning to change my opinion of Burkett --that the "passive, duped persona" is all an act.

Burkett was one of the sources for information in the Michael Moore's film "Farenheit 911."

I don't have the link but also as far as his medical problems it was that it MIGHT have been caused by a virus he acquired in his brief stay in Panama.

And that he experienced what "he called" a nervous breakdown as a result. Meaning it is what he claims not what any professional diagnosed.

That he is NOT suing for "mental health" benefits, his lawsuit is a retaliation charge in federal courts against the commanding officers who he claims "punished" him by sending him to Panama on the orders of GWB.

He filed for Whistleblower status which invoves far more compensation than "mental health" benefits.

I know there are lawyers and psychologists on here (I am neither) but his entire case rests on his "proving" that GWB ORDERED the guard to punish him for his "refusing" to cover up for them and it resulted in his physical and mental suffering.

Burkett was the one who needed evidence of his claims since his case is still pending now before the Supreme Court.

He is portraying himself as a sympathic victim and I am not so sure he is that.

Lighten up a little, and spare me the wrath of your censure. I admit. I gave in to my dark side and tweaked a troll. I hereby beg fogiveness of all Lizardoids everywhere.

"As for the accuracy of the Republican veterans' accusations, they can be tested against the testimony of the men who served under Kerry's command -- all of whom but one have repeatedly endorsed his courage, his decency, and his candidacy.

Better yet, why don't we test their accusations against THE FACTS? The Kerry Kool-Aid Krowd has made the claim that the "Swifties have been discredited" only slightly more often than they've changed their representations of Kerry's service, in response to those "discredited" accusations.

IMHO, the important part of Kerry's military service record is what he was doing in Paris while he was STILL IN THE NAVY. The only military service that is relevant to GW's re-election is his tenure as Commander In Chief. There is plenty of room to criticize him on that, but the BDS sufferers are not so demented that they believe they can beat him on that record. Hence the TANG non-issue.

In the interest of full disclosure: my military experience is 3 years USMC. I made Sgt. once, and LCpl. twice [wink]. I didn't stay in because I discovered that I was unable to lie when some Butter Bar asked me: "Do you take me for an idiot, Marine?" C'est la vie!

I'm sure there is stuff in my record, that I wouldn't want to hang my reputation on. 30 years ago, I knew every damned thing, and didn't care who knew it.
