McAuliffe Urges Media Blitz

Thu, Sep 30, 2004 at 11:20:16 am PDT

An LGF reader who’s on the DNC mailing list forwarded this email from Terry McAuliffe, imploring Kerry supporters to flood the media immediately following the debate:

***

Tonight, don’t let George Bush’s henchmen steal another victory. We need your online help immediately after the debate, so save this email, print it out, and have it ready with you as you watch the first Presidential debate tonight.

We all know what happened in 2000. Al Gore won the first debate on the issues, but Republicans stole the post-debate spin. We are not going to let that happen again, and you will play a big role.

Immediately after the debate, we need you to do three things: vote in online polls, write a letter to the editor, and call in to talk radio programs. Your 10 minutes of activism following the debate can make the difference.

Vote

National and local news organizations will be conducting online polls during and after the debate asking for readers’ opinions. Look for online polls at these national news websites, and make sure to vote in every one of them:

ABC News
CBS News
CNN
Fox News
MSNBC
USA Today

And be sure to check the websites of your local newspapers and TV stations for online polls. It is crucial that you do this in the minutes immediately following the debate.

Write

Immediately after the debate, go online and write a letter to the editor of your local paper. If you feel John Kerry commanded the debate and had a clear plan for fixing the mess in Iraq, put it in your letter. If you feel George Bush dodged tough questions on Iraq and didn’t level with voters, put it in your letter.

With just a few clicks, you can write your letter at our online media
center:

www.democrats.org

Call

Do you listen to national or local call-in shows on the radio? How about on TV? Call them and let them know what you thought of John Kerry’s plan to keep America secure and George Bush’s continuing refusal to admit the truth about his record.

Here are some national shows to get you started. (All times are Eastern.)

Air America (all day): 646-274-2346
Alan Colmes (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.): 212-301-5900
Ed Shultz (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.): 701-232-1525
Bev Smith (7 p.m. to 10 p.m.): 412-325-4197
Doug Stephen (5 a.m. 10 a.m.): 1-800-510-8255
Find shows in your area on our media website:

www.democrats.org/media

Your actions immediately after the debate tonight can help John Kerry win on November 2. Make your voice heard!

Don’t forget to visit our 2004 Debate Center before, during, and after the debate for important information, including questions Bush must answer, a Bush/Kerry contrast on keeping America safe, and Bush Debate Bingo, a game you can play with friends during the debate.

www.democrats.org/debates

And after the debate, check your email for a very special message.

Thank you,
Terry McAuliffe
Chairman

PS: Make sure to forward this email to at least 10 other people who will be watching the debate. Also, give printed out copies to your friends, family members, coworkers and neighbors and get them involved.

This is the sort of activism that i see nothing wrong with, unlike the 'activism' of islamofascists.

Should we thank the DNC for giving us that valuable info too, so we can use it against sKerry?

I think not, but HEY Y'all! Lets use it!

4 LanceKates  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:23:13am

Sometimes I wonder....

I get emails from both the RNC and the DNC and they're both basically the same (although the RNC doesn't seem to 'whine' as much)

Charles, they're starting already with that banner ad that claims Kerry won the debate that they were running a few hours back.

Besides the "flooding polls" command, there's nothing really wrong with this, technically or otherwise.

It's just partisan politics...

Yep lets play bingo..lol.

Thanks for the e-mail addresses, after the debate I'll advise each e-mail addressee what a poor job Kerry did. Perhaps we should all do that.

#9 The False God

Besides the "flooding polls" command, there's nothing really wrong with this, technically or otherwise.

That's the problem with both sides. They're too worried about getting 'their guy' in. I've yet to hear either side REALLY say that they're wanting to do a good job for America.

President Bush comes the closest.

Sorry, but that bright orange pumpkin will be rotted by then.

Whatever happens in November, I got to tell you that American politics are damn well exciting. Makes Canadian politics look... silly.

And there are some Canucks who realize how important it is that Bush wins.

Good luck!

I shall pound on the online polls..

Had a 'Get the out vote' guy at my front door yesterday.
GOTVD "It's imperative we get as many people as possible to vote. This is such a critical election.."
ME "I have to agree with you there. Who are you supporting?"
GOTVD "Uuuum...why Mr Kerry of course!!"
ME "Oooh. Too bad those documentas were forgeries huh? Have a good day."
Door closes gently as I hear, "What documents?"

18 PaddyBeaner  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:27:45am

Note the directive:

If you feel John Kerry commanded the debate and had a clear plan for fixing the mess in Iraq, put it in your letter. If you feel George Bush dodged tough questions on Iraq and didn’t level with voters, put it in your letter.

This doesn't seem to allow for thinking.

And what do you do if you think Bush cleaned Kerry's clock? Don't think Terry M wants you to put that in your letter. DNC fans apparently have a narrow menu of thoughts to choose from.

19 pasalomon  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:28:02am

Perhaps it's just me...but does anyone else even have a radio station carrying any of those shows?

I don't and I get radio stations from Jacksonville, FL and Savannah, GA (not exactly major media markets, but still...)

20 Andrew B.  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:28:56am

We should do the reverse...counter act their attack.

It's time to show the World that Bloggers have the power and do all the research for all the networks.

What ever this letter said...we should do the same, but on our side of the fence.

Andrew B.

21 Leigh  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:30:02am

What? Like the "spin" that comes out of the debate is the important result?

Why doesn't the DNC encourage their tools to watch the debate, think about the issues, and decide how they are going to vote?

Or

Take the talking points issued by their master, Mr. Kerry, and go out and convince other voters of the rightness of his position?

Either one of these would relevant. But, just trying to engineer the post-debate spin is so... weak. Can't they come up with something better to influence voters.

Weak. Spineless. Morally bankrupt. Why am I not surprised?

Throw these debates down the memory hole before they start, DNC drones! -- Terry McAwful

They do take marching orders from their central party authorities. This is why they attempt to project the same characteristic onto their opponents. I don't give a damn what Ed Gillespie says, on the other hand. But I do know his name. Their 'command' of the basic facts is often lacking.

28 Jimmy The Clam  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:34:50am

I was having just this thought on the way back home.
If Kerry cannot achieve a knockout blow during the debate, the Dems can manufacture one after the fact.

All they have to do is to get all of their talking heads saying how lousy GWB did and any slight misstep on his part will be spun wildly out of proportion.

With all of the Network talking heads spinning in the same direction, perhaps they think they can influence popular opinion?

Is anybody taking bets that this will be attempted?
This letter from McAuliffe pretty much confirms it for me.

29 SupplyGuy  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:36:25am

Poor deluded Terry. He still doesn't realize that he can't win an election w/out Ross Perot. In his heart of hearts he still believes that he was the mastermind behind the '92 and '96 elections. Where's Ross Perot when the Dems need him the most?

30 johnCV  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:37:35am

These people ate IDIOTS!

They have sunk so far into BDS that they seem to be incapable of admitting they LOST the last election because Gore was an ASSHOLE and no-one liked him!

Their entire strategy to convice the citizens is: if the voter does not agree with your postion - SAY IT LOUDER AND MORE OFTEN. If that does not work, call them a stupid Nazi.

Good plan, terry. Let us know how it works out for ya.

33 GW  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:39:22am

For those of you to squeamish to browse thru a website named Democrats.org, here's the sample letter the DNC is asking to be forwarded....

In the first presidential debate, I was hoping to hear two things.

First, I wanted to hear John Kerry lay out his plans for Iraq and for winning the war on terror. I wasn't disappointed. Kerry staked out a strong plan to bring peace to Iraq and to refocus our efforts to fight terrorists around the world.

Second, I wanted to hear President Bush tell the truth about Iraq, but he refused. While his own intelligence services, military advisers, Republican colleagues, and even his Secretary of State have said that Iraq is in chaos, Bush still presents a version of Iraq seen through rose-colored glasses.

This debate made it clear: John Kerry is a leader we can trust to tell us the truth when it comes to our nation's security. George Bush has had his chance; I'm ready for a new direction.

All the MSM will declare Kerry the winner unless his performance is so awfully bad that nothing can be done about it, at which point a thousand form letters to the editor saying Bush has no plan for Iraq and Bush dodged all the touigh questions will be irrelevant anyway.

I'll admit I'm nervous. Bush is the leader, so he really has nothing to gain, and his does occasioanlly mangle his syntax, which the MSM will run with if it happens.

My fondest hope is that Lurch reverts back to the combo William F. Buckely/Thurston Howell III "Jenjis Khan" accent that was especially obnoxious during his Dick Cavett show appearance.

I'm also hoping he sweats enougth that the makeup his people will use to try to cover the horrid fake orange tan starts to run, but I think I've heard Botulinium Toxin A injections can actually shut down perspiration.

I hope they enjoy they next four years of the Bush presidency as much as I will.

46 addison  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:46:57am

What pathetic children these people are.

Online polls? Well, if you believe online polls are an accurate catalog of public opinion...well, you go right ahead believing that. Are they under the impression that someone who watched the debates and saw Kerry do horribly (or well) will go on the Internet, see a couple of online polls reflecting the opposite and think to themselves, 'Self, I must have been wrong. I cannot believe my own eyes. Must. Obey. Group.'

If you feel John Kerry commanded the debate and had a clear plan for fixing the mess in Iraq, put it in your letter. If you feel George Bush dodged tough questions on Iraq and didn’t level with voters, put it in your letter.

Missing some options in there, Mr. McAuliffe.

The letter is a perfect example of the thought processes of one who engages in groupthink who makes the mistake that others engage in it as well. If I see something with my own eyes and read twelve editorials to the opposite, see online polls to the opposite, or hear callers on radio shows (that barely anyone listens to anyway) professing the opposite, I assume they have the problem, not me. Were I were susceptible to such, I would believe George Bush said "Iraq bought uranium from Niger", that Bush claimed Iraq was an "imminent threat", that Bush personally allowed Saudis to leave the US after September 11, that FOX News made Gore lose Florida, that 1 million Black people were disenfranchised in Florida, etc., etc.

The letter is a perfect example of why the Democrat Party is in decline. They assume other people think the way they do: like immature teenagers.

Note to Democrat Party: You need to treat voters as though they are capable of thinking for themselves and not lemmings.

You know what'd be funny, if Republicans took the Dem letters word for word, but just reserved the Bush and Kerry names and submitted them to everynewspaper in the country.

My paper has had a couple of editorials on form letters that people submit. They try to filter them out.

48 Rev-O  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:47:40am

Yesterday, my neighbor, a very kind man, offered me a Kerry bumper sticker. I politely declined. After a few minutes of polite political conversation he remarked that I "seemed to be up" on there current political scene. He then asked why I don't have a Bush/Cheney lawn ornament.

I told him to drive around the town and look at the homes with knocked down mailboxes, or trash dumped on their lawn and do a "sign comparison". I remarked, that although I thought our genial conversation was entertaining if not enlightening, his "peers" were less than civil. These people, I remarked, do not help your cause. I also asked him if he noticed the huge majority of signless lawns.

He's a party activist (in the good sense) and may take this message to his contemporaries. I think that this exchange holds more value than entertainment polls. I say let the LLL crush the polls and show Kerry with a 20 point lead. Who cares? Maybe the left will get complacent and STFU for awhile. The constant MoonBat screeching gives me a headache anyway.

PS: Make sure to forward this email to at least 10 other people who will be watching the debate. Also, give printed out copies to your friends, family members, coworkers and neighbors and get them involved.

If you do, within 10 days your luck will change and you will receive a gift from a magic unicorn!

If you dont, horrible things will happen! The slaughtering rat people will find you.

Man, I hate chain letters!

I once was a Democrat (but now I see) and every single day I get something from them.... some kind of appeal for money or help or to give me talking points. Even after I wrote to them for months to go screw themselves, I still get mail from Carvel, Kerry, Lieberman and Bill or Hillary. I am amazed at the level of spending and effort they expend.

I never get anything in the mail from the Republicans but I do get emails from the Republican organizations I joined. The emails really are more effective.

You can get a feel for just how out of touch the Democrats are with the majority of the people despite all their efforts.

79 zulubaby  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 10:13:36am

Andrew B., LOL, that skit was funny.

Star 102.7 have set up a booth on Santa Monica Blvd with 'Rock the Vote' splashed all over it. Because that's what we need in Los Angeles, something else to slow down the traffic.

'Rock the Vote!'

'Choose or Lose!'

Just as long as you dont vote or choose Republican, right?

82 mad_scientist  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 10:16:51am

I agree that this sounds like despiration time for Terry McAwful et al, but I must say I am a bit nervous about tonights debate.

As we all know GW can sometimes get a little tongue tied (as do we all) sometimes, and I can just picture it now....he makes a big gaff, and it is plastered all over the front pages and the MSM will talk about it for weeks.

Not to mention, as much as I hate Kerry and his policies, he is rumored to be a good debator, but people on both sides of the aisle. If the moderator is a bit slanted towards Kerry and asks Bush tough questions while serving Kerry softballs, it could spell trouble.

Remember when Carter was up on Reagan before the last debate by like 6pts or so (please correct me if I am wrong on this)?? I am all for enthusiasm, but this election is far from over. Especially with all the damn fraud.....

mad_scientist out......

83 JammieWearingFool  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 10:17:27am

Funny, but McDunceBoy doesn't have any recommendations for what to do when Kerry's Orange warpaint starts melting.

What do we do when Bush pimpslaps him and calls him his bitch?

What does a DNC hack say when an incoherent Kerry starts asking "Who ordered the veal?"

After Kerry collapses in a heap and Te-Ray-Zuh runs onstage to browbeat him while he remains in the fetal position, what does one say when they call DeadAirAmerica??? Is DAA even broadcasting after dark?

I'll be too busy laughing and filling in more states for Bush on my electoral map (331 and rising).

What a funereal night it shall be in Boston. Yankees clinch 7th straight AL East crown, and Kerry is eliminated from contention.

Oh well. At least they can start Pretty in Pink's 2008 campaign a month earlier.

Debate schedule:

Debate #1: Debater's respond to questions.

Debate #2: Kerry debates inarticulate moments of Debate #1.

Debate #3: Kerry debates inarticulate moments of Debate #1 and Debate #2.

Remember Kerry is a 'Master Debaiter.'

Boy, I hope we don't see him with a silly-ass smile behind a podium the whole dam time. Then I'll really wonder. ;)

GW will do well. He has come along way in 4yrs with his speaking. Plus there is no pressure on him. The Pressure will be on Kerry. Remember, we know what Bush wants. Everyone is watching to see exactly what Kerry wants or stands. I agree that GW can get tongue tied.. but that will not stop him. Smile... for 4 more years!!!

Here's hoping!! I cant wait until Nov 3rd when I walk into work (my whole floor is for Kerry except me).....I work at a university, so no surprise there.

I may buy a GW shirt to wear that day..... :)

92 militarybrat  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 10:28:08am

Ooooh! We are SCARED! SCARED, I tell you! Kerry has been honing his debate skills since GRADE SCHOOL!

"actually, teacher, I did do that spelling assignment before I didn't do it."

"We all know that spelling words in just one standardized way stifles creativity and artistic thought process. Under such reasoning, I should have 100% so that I don't feel bad about myself because my average goes down."

"Orange is the new white(champagne and caviar bleeding heart liberal man)"

"We should not have played that football game, but since we did we need to win. The score is 49 us 0 them, but we are in a quagmire with half of the game still to go. It is good that we tackled the quarterback immediately, but we shouldn't have done it."

Shit. Give me mangled syntax any day. With my penchant for screwing up similes and metaphors, I rarely notice when W breaks the rules of the Queen's English. And just for the record, I DID get the joke about Kerry being a master-debater. I've heard it before, though, so results are skewed.

Don't worry. Even though Kerry might be a good debater, this really is not a debate at all, rather a weak question and answer forum. All of the things that give a debate substance, the argument-counterargument, everything, has been removed. People will see that Bush has answers and a vision, Kerry has, well, a pumpkin-head!

"Contemporaries" are actually people who share a common time period. You and your neighbor are contemporaries, even though you don't share a common political position.

Try "comrades" or "co-religionists" insted.

98 mich-again  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 10:59:14am

I'll donate $5 to Kerry if he says "Jhengis Kan" during the debate. I love it when he says that..

I'm going to track of how many times he says:

Halliburton
Unilateral
Wrong
International
Nuance

Any bets?

I belive they will be mailing out packages of Kool Aid for the day after the election.
I know that all lizadroid digital Brown Shirts appriciate the links,to comment on the debate.
The letter from Mom template, is a laugh and a half .
I dont have the heart to tell them its all a plot by Lord Rove.
Its going to be a hoot watching the great Pumpkin rise from center field so Bush, can bat base balls at him.

I think everyone should do the e-mail thing prasing Kerry. That turkey is so stuck on himself he'll believe it and continue along on a false premis. To give your e-mail extra validity, send to to CBS so Dan Blather can voice it on 60 minutes

Too bad. That would make for some fun radio

I am typing slowly because I know you can't read very fast. It would be ill advised to challenge us to an e-mail contest.

115 G.Galvan  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 2:02:11pm

I think their attempt is to repeat a scenario similar to the early call in Florida 2000 making people think it is over so they don't need to vote. How many actually register is not as important as how many actually vote.

If the fools send you one of their mass emails with their entire address book showing, make sure you respond by clicking "Reply ALL" (or whatever your email program says) for sending your response to all of them.

If you need a fast response to any of the phony "Bush in the National Guard" charges, just copy and paste THIS

119 Kelty  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 3:36:41pm

My boss forwarded the (almost unbelievably lame) DNC email to our entire office this afternoon; I just about flipped my shit. Instead, I forwarded the email to my home email account, left the office for the day, and quickly decided to use this person's nonexistent judgement agaisnt them. Glad everyone here had the same idea!!

ABC had a poll going, but I guess we've got them overloaded. MSNBC had a "who would you vote for today poll"

I think Old Bushy did a pretty damn good job and got some good licks in.

122 Carridine  Thu, Sep 30, 2004 9:12:47pm

Just watched the morning news LIVE in Thailand, and was kept busy explaining Qerrys lies and distortions to my 12-yr-old son...

Sent in THIS, to 3 Dem newspapers in Chicago, Houston and San Fran:
"In the first presidential debate, I was hoping to hear two things.

First, I wanted to hear John Kerry lay out his plans for Iraq and for winning the war on terror. I was disappointed. Kerry staked out a strange plan to bring resurgent terrorism to Iraq and to reduce our efforts to fight terrorists around the world by seeking to appease them!

Second, I wanted to hear President Bush tell the truth about Iraq, and he did. Because his own intelligence services, military advisers, Republican colleagues, and even his Secretary of State have said that Iraq is steadily improving, Bush presents a version of Iraq seen through reality-based wisdom.

This debate made it clear: John Kerry isn't a leader we can trust to tell us the truth when it comes to our nation's security. George Bush has done well enough with his chance; I'm ready for a renewal of his direction."

Obviously, it was set up FOR Kerry, but I tweaked it to better reflect reality. As it read originally, it said "Kerry IS a leader we CAN trust to tell us the truth." I mean, that's very difficult to believe, surely they didn't mean that at Dem HQ?

Mweh!

123 klsgolfer  Fri, Oct 1, 2004 6:36:37am

Don't be pushed around by the Democratic "leadership". These folks are not for our interests. To hear them whine you would believe that 9/11 was our fault. If Al Gore was in office (excuse me while I toss my groceries) we would be holding focus groups to seek the Muslim fanatics forgiveness, and we'd be sending billions of dollars to them so that they reclaim their culture and "self-esteem".

Never give in to the FACT that America was attacked without provocation. Remember that we did have plenty of warning in the 90's while ol' Bill was having his "cigar smoked" - - yet we ignored them.

History is repeating itself. Let us stand united just as Presidents Jefferson and Madison did against the pirates of N. Africa in the early 1800's. Let us stand with President Bush and defeat these fanatics. Only in their defeat will free and democrat governments will develop!

God Bless America!
