Well, at least Kerry can get a job as a backup dancer for Britney Spears should he lose in November, lol.

Charles,
Did you read what was posted over at Power Line?

" Read the [October] Atlantic Monthly article by James Fallows on Iraq and Bin Laden, "Bush's Lost Year." [Only the opening of the article is included on the Atlantic's site.] Kerry's positions on these subjects were almost directly lifted from the Atlantic, especially his line quoting Powell and his criticism of Tora Bora. Any American who reads the Atlantic could have given Kerry's [positions in the debate]."

I saw the funniest thing today. A kerry campaign worker in a blue "fighter pilot" type jacket with the seal of the United States of America with John F. Kerry's embroidered autograph right underneath the seal. Trying oh- so hard to look official and militaristic.

Of course so that no one would mistake that he was with Kerry, he was wearing a campaign button the size of one of Flavor Flav's clock necklaces.

Pretty good, thanks. I actually got called by a polling company the other day, day before the debates. They would not tell me who the poll was being conducted for. Of course, I put my two cents in. It was only after I hung up that I had that V-8 hit your head moment. I should have identified myself as a dimocrat and really screwed up their poll (especially if it was an internal Kerry poll). Oh well, next time.

I have always wondered who those polled people were and why I never got called.

the candidate is awful for letting those kinds of images exist...

kerry is so obviously not a man of the people... you never got a vibe of phoniness from Reagan chopping wood.. it was totally beliveable that the photo was a candid pic of the guy doing something that came naturally to him... all this kerry throwing around the old pigskin and knocking back a brewski at an ohio watering hole.... it looks goofy.. he has clearly never centered a ball... he can't catch a football either.

kerry is plenty athletic. he bikes. he windsurfs. he snowboards... he passes the kennedyesque "vigah" test... look we get it... the guy ought to be who he is... far fewer people would fault him for having pricey athletic hobbies than fault him for looking like a geek posing with his arm flailing back behind his ass like that...

ausa, Good. I'm surprised they wouldn't tell you who they were with; sounds fishy if they wouldn't tell you. I was polled by Harris a few months ago. The first question was "What do you think the number one issue is today?" I answered "The war on terror." The polltaker looked through his script and told me that wasn't an option! I like the idea of reporting as a Dem, though. A friend of mine is a Dem who only votes Republican. (He likes to vote in the Dem primaries.)

113 nvdoyle  Sat, Oct 2, 2004 6:10:39pm

As someone who's voting Republican this year, the more pics like this, the better.

As an American...this is incredibly embarassing.
Has this man (and his handlers?) lost any sense of dignity of the office of Senator? Look, scandals are one thing, as are voting records slightly to the left of Trotsky and being under the whiskey-soaked wing of Saint Teddy of the Amphibious Cutlass. But this is simply immature, juvenile. This is not something that grown men in casual dress attire do. You might throw out a pitch at a baseball game, or somesuch...but bending over to hike a football in a painfully staged photo-op (so that we can all see why men's trousers should always reach the top of the shoe) is simply not done. Playing at sport should be reserved for the proper time and attire.

This ain't it, Johnnie.

Oh, and keep it up.

but part of the Culture Wars. Just got a really long email from a friend, who started with saying the whole Vietnam thing really "strikes a deep chord" with her. She's in her 50s, married to a vet, and they were married while he served in Nam. So she went through all that, and they both turned against the war.

So they idolize Kerry as the guy who helped end it all. And see him as being the man to save them from being involved in another war. And completely overlook his vicious lies about the Army and therefore, her husband as well....

Anyway. I didn't read it. Not a good thing to end the evening with, another cri de coeur from another LLL friend. I am so heartily sick of them all. You can't convince them that it's 30 years later and this is another situation, and that we really ARE fighting to preserve our civilization. If we don't act forcefully now, the war we'll be forced to fight later will be so much worse.

And if we should lose, lizards. If we should lose!

But my friend makes me heartsick. She's not one of the worst, and she's a good egg. Just politically brainwashed. I just sent her a brief one; that I knew months ago we'd never agree, and that I, too, have good reasons for my decision.

If your friends willfully turn off their individual instincts of survival and deny the truth, do not allow that to see you make the same compromise to keep this friendship. If they wish to put off the inevitable, that is their individual choice. Sadly one day if they are still living, they will be forced to face not only the truth but act upon it. In the meantime you must always remember that forewarned is forearmed. So keep your vigilance and be prepared for the coming storm.
Sadly too, one day we will be as Moses with our ridiculed arks embarking on a great flood in which many will not survive. If they are not wise enough to prepare, maybe it will someone as you that will be their saving grace.
Of course this kind of willful and dangerous denial also cause many unnecessary deaths.

You mean the picture for this thread didn't do it? ;-)

Sorry to hear about your friend falling victim to that warped logic. I was just discussing that very topic with a friend over email though. Not only is it sickening to think of the possible suffering and/or deaths that were inflicted upon our soldiers as a direct result of Kerry's treasonous acts, but even if you put that aside, it is the height of arrogance for one disgruntled Navy man to think that he singlehandedly facilitated the end of that war.

As I said in an email a little while ago, my grandfather was a Lt. Colonel in the Marine Corps during Vietnam. Needless to say, he saw and experienced terrible things there. When Kerry announced his candidacy, my grandfather was incensed. He blames Kerry personally for some of the bodies of marines that he saw. I'd love to see John Kerry sit in a room with him and talk about how speaking out was "heroic" and how all of the men over there deserve to be painted with the same brush as Lt. Calley and the other thugs in Charlie Co.

Then he bent over and said "I am Jean Claude Kerry, and I am reporting for duty and this is how you position yourself for the global test."

Is it what DNC call to "look presidential", or is it what they call nuanced position?

How much Vaseline do you think it took to get that football out? And is next week's position on Iraq up there somewhere?

Kerry: "Hey, Dubya, whatcha gonna do with that football?"

Bush: "Bend over and I'll show ya!"

Your words are poignant.

Maybe in the next debate, Bush should stop the proceedings, and pause about 1/3 the way through the incessant attacks--- then gaze at Mr. Kerry, saying 2 little words: "Jhengis Khan".

Then remind the Sinator, and the audience, who it was that admitted to being a war criminal in 1971--- one who "chopped off heads and arms". And that this same "hero" is uttering similar words today.

He is still giving support and confidence to the enemy--- while demoralizing our troops and POW's.

The debate is about economics, and it is off topic, but he could insert it in there somewhere, I'm sure.

The days of civility are over. War is hell!

It's a LIVESTRONG bracelet. Lance Armstrong is the brains behind it (hence the name). It's all the rage here in Texas, which is why I don't wear one. Not that I think the charity isn't a good one, but you can't tell me that buying a one dollar piece of rubber proves that you care. Besides, I have been wearing my Scott Speicher POW bracelet long before the yellow bracelet came out.

As Kerry approaches the podium. he's pulling something out of his jacket. He lays in flat in front of him.
Could someone with better eyes and more experience tell me what it is?

I watched it on your link. Looks like Kerry reached into his jacket pocket, pulled out a folded-up piece of paper, unfolded it and placed it on the podium in front of him. Is this significant in any way? Weren't they allowed to look at notes?

252 Troy Rochford  Sat, Oct 2, 2004 10:23:51pm

No they weren't allowed to have notes, but I doubt he would be brazen enough to have pulled notes out. Who knows what it could have been? Not much anyone can do about it now anyway.

Thanks.

It looked like notes to me, but as notes weren't allowed in the debate, I didn't think that a person could set them on their podium, and not have the moderator say something.

That's what had me wondering, no one said a thing.

Thanks for looking at it.
I'm not a debater, in my world, 'notes is notes'. I was wondering if in a debater's world, 'notes' meant something else.

264 griffon  Sun, Oct 3, 2004 4:20:54am

Kerry is trying to win over the athletes the same way he is trying to win over the hunters/shooters by posing with guns. At least he hasn't introduced legislation to ban this particular football the way he has introduced bills to ban one of the guns he was photographed with.

Fox News just had a spokesman on who showed the NRA picture of the poodle labeled as Kerry saying "This dog don't hunt". He talked about how PETA has give Kerry 100% backing because of his past backing of laws that would limit sportsmen's rights. I hope Fox reruns the segment either in the middle of the day or later in the evening. All the sportsmen I know are out hunting geese early this morning and later this afternoon.

Off topic, well maybe still on topic, MO recently voted 71% to ban gay marriage, LA voted aound 80% against gay marriage.
Do these people understand that if jfkerry is elected, this will be the beginning of the end of traditional marriage?
The following is from CNN:

Teresa Heinz Kerry has also helped the Democratic ticket to score points in the gay community. Speaking Wednesday before the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transsexual Caucus, Heinz Kerry wowed the crowd with her declaration that there would be a "a mom in the White House who loves you."
When the audience gave her a standing ovation, she declared, "You can call me Mama T anytime." That prompted chants of "Mama T."
The 2004 Democratic Party platform calls for the "full inclusion of gay and lesbian families in the life of our nation." The platform also repudiates Bush's proposed constitutional amendment, which recently failed in the Senate on a procedural vote, and said the definition of marriage should be left to the states.
Bush's proposal struck a nerve here with many gay delegates, who said it was reason enough to vote for Kerry.
"With John Kerry, we're in a better place to start and make progress than where Bush is on the issue," Falcon said.
Sims and other gay delegates said they take comfort in Kerry's voting record in the Senate, where he has a solid record of supporting civil rights initiatives, and his stated belief that gays and lesbians should have the same legal and health benefits enjoyed by heterosexual couples.
Kerry also voted against the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which restricted the federal recognition of marriage to heterosexual couples. Kerry said he voted against that bill because it struck him as "gay bashing."

1. The usual necessary position for a democrat to high-five the national press corps.

2. Knock it off, Kerry, you've already got Andrew Sullivan's endorsement.

3. John Kerry finally clarifies and illustrates how exactly he would get the French on our side.

4. John Kerry or Jim Carrey, either way, you know somebody's talking out of his ass.

5. "How can a man lead the free world if he can't even get 'I'm a Little Teapot' right?"

6. Kerry initially tried to beg off playing football. "The last time I did this, I turned orange for three days."

7. Kerry later explained that "War is like football... if you don't have a decisive victory in the first quarter, quit the field and go home."

8. Kerry answers the question, "Show us one thing you can do that Michael Moore can't."

9. Where's a pissed-off billy goat when you need one?

10. And all CJ could say when he saw this picture was, "What the f***?"
