Tue, Nov 2, 2004 at 9:44:48 pm PST

Fox News just called Ohio for President Bush! It’s all over but the shouting, folks, and unless something extraordinary happens, George W. Bush is going to be President for ...

FOUR

MORE

YEARS!

More enlightenment via Atrios...

NPR is saying that the big surprise is that this election might be won on values. what values? hate the fag, love the fetus values. not terro, not iraq, but values. fundamentalist christian values. meanwhile we murder thousands in iraq?

if it does fall out that way, bush, rove et al have pulled the biggest scam on america cause they could give a shit about values. it's the old bait and switch and these stupid knuckle-dragging fundies who the republican party could give a shit about after they get their vote have been fooled by lip service about fags and fetuses. idiots.

but i'm still hopeful we'll sqeak this thing out. minnesota just went out way. come on ohio, birthplace of my kerry lovin' wonderful brave and strong mother...

31 Siergen  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 7:48:40pm

It ain't over till the fat guy (Moore) starts whining about the election being stolen. If the other states don't fall right, we get a tie in the electoral college, and one of the Republican electors from West Virginia has said that he will vote for Kerry, which would break the tie...

ok that is wonderful, but..

with alaska going stongly for bush right now (63-35) that gets us to 269, no worse than a tie.

still need one of the following to win outright: NM, part of maine, NH, NV, WI, IA

44 rumcrook  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 7:51:06pm

still pretty scary, but hopefully it means this wont end up in a tie with it going to the house to elect bush.

and again im going to call new mexico and our handfull of electoral votes to bush

A mandate is delivered in time of war. The American people give their approval for decisive action. A decisive leader with clear faith and clear vision can now wield a fearsome instrument of war against a deadly enemy. These are trying times, but we will win.

Praise God!

I'll probably be worthless at work tomorrow, uh today, but it was worth it.

All we need is Alaska for a tie, but we almost have New Mexico so that may be moot.

Plus we have a Republican governor in Indiana again!

Woo Hoo!

61 footballfan0786  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 7:54:23pm

Now, just use this win to finish the job.

62 Athos  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 7:54:24pm

FNC talking that the Bush lead in NM is pretty formidable.....and even if that falls short, as long as Ohio remains Red, and Alaska goes Red (very likely) - then 269-269 and the election goes to the Repubican controlled House.

My guess is that the Ohio lead will be able to survive any recount - moving tens of thousands of votes is very very difficult. The DNC couldn't contest NH last year because they didn't see how they could move 7K. Florida, in 2000, with less than 1K, was a better target.

On that day, the people rose up, as one, and made their stand.

And a select few,

A group known as The Lizard Nation,

They stood the tallest of them all

on that fateful day.

Susan Estrich - thy name is shill. Boo nasty.

Is it bad form for me to still be mad about those freakin exit polls? Did anybody think that AP would do a fair job with the exit polling? Admittedly I bought the head fake because I couldn't believe that the AP would do such a despicable thing in the wake of the problem of calling elections early in the 2000 elections. Give credit to the American people. We are not stupid!

There's still around 200K votes to count in Cuyahoga county and Bush's has gotten about 38% in that county.

I think Fox is jumping the gun a bit.

Of course, nothing really ends now. The MSM doesn't change, the newspapers keep on doing what they do, the lawsuits will be there.

But now is not the time to think about that, now is the time to be happy and grateful.

"then 269-269 and the election goes to the Repubican controlled House."

Just for the record, it doesn't matter that the House is Repubican controlled. Its one state one vote. As long Bush wins 26 or more states, he wins.

89 Lyra the Hunter  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 7:58:35pm

Hey, can someone help me out? Anyone registered for Kos's comments?

I feel charitable and would like to help them out;

They are having a discussion regarding low turnout among young voters. Being a young voter, I can say that my profs urged us to vote for weeks. They moved assignments and canceled classes. They offered rides. They handed out forms. In a pleasant surprise, they did it mostly without stumping for Kerry. (when not specifically urging us to vote, was another matter entirely, of course)

Hours of classtime spent on this, and still, come today, about half the people in every class were saying "I forgot to register", "I don't want to drive home to vote", and "I never filled out an absentee ballot" Even ones with all the Kerry pins and stuff.

I may really hate Kerry, but I want everyone to vote on principle. I urged several people - who I knew were Kerry supporters - to go vote with provisional ballots. I don't think they did.

As for those who did vote, more than half seemed to be over 45. Kerry lost a lot of ground with them that he did not need to lose on any number of things, I would suggest to the Dems that they figure out what, exactly, those things were. My Grandma, a lifetime Dem voter, absolutely loathes Kerry. Dems, this is a problem.

I think it is in my interest to have an opposition party that does not piss off my Grandma, so I hope they learn some lessons this year.

It is entirely possible that the backlash against Al Guardian and the OSCE "observers" ("we will tell the people of Ohio whether their election is free and fair") was enough to make the difference.
Savor the irony, and send AG and Belgian Senator Covelier a note of thanks.

That vague rumbling in the background is four years of incitement and authoritarian propaganda finally taking full effect on the far left.
They are bestirring themselves for a violent confrontation, possibly before the night is over.

CBS just called Alaska for Bush. They still don't have Ohio in Bush's column so they have Bush at 249. Fox has already called Ohio for Bush. Also, with 80% of precincts reporting, New Mexico shows Bush with a 20,000 vote lead. They'd call it for Bush but there are a lot of absentee ballots in NM.

157 BeckoningChasm  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 8:03:28pm

CueBall Carville has also thrown in the towel in Ohio and said so on CNN........

With Alaska called for the President - we are looking at 269 for the President. IA, WI, and NM are very much in play - with NM the most likely to be called Red. If any one of those goes - put a fork in Kerry.

In fact, as long as 269 holds - Bush wins when it gets to the House.

My hats off to the Bush 2004 campaigners. They held off a hostile press and stayed the course through the dark moments of the Iraq prison scandal. The MSM showed their true blue liberal bias with the infamous “Memogate” with our fearless leader Charles demolishing the authenticity of the 60 minutes document. The LGF has played a small but important part of this historic election. Each of you should be proud your contributions. Well done! Lizaloids.

173 jaybird  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 8:05:20pm

Did I read or hear somewhere that AP was responsible for the exit polling this election? Can someone confirm that? Could that have anything to do with why the exit polling was so hosed? And why it was so consistently skewed towards Kerry? It's common knowledge that AP went into the tank for Kerry months ago.

Everyone at FOX was so glum as the coverage began early in the evening, except for Juan Williams and Susan Estrich, who were positively giddy. They didn't tell us why until the polls closed in FLA, and it was then that we come to learn that the exit polling had been predicting a Kerry win virtually everywhere. And it was all wrong, excpet for NJ and PA, which were blue states anyway.

The MSM kept up its rank partisanship and Kerry favoritism to the bitter end.

There is simply not enough dem votes, in Cleveland, provisional/absentee ballots, to put Kerry over the top. The Ohio win is solid.

Michael Moore causes stir in Cuyahoga County

Beacon Journal staff report

CLEVELAND - Filmmaker Michael Moore created a stir by showing up at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections shortly before 6 tonight.

Moore, engulfed by reporters as he tried to make his way through the lobby, said he was in the Cleveland area in a watchdog role. He had marshaled a crew of about 1,200 people -- about 300 in Ohio, 600 in Florida and the rest scattered elsewhere -- to film possible instances of voter fraud or abuse. Some were outfitted with home video cameras; others toted professional equipment.

Moore said his crews had found no evidence of wrongdoing in Ohio.

``What I've seen here so far isn't official abuse, it's neglect,'' he said, referring to the insufficient number of voting booths in many precincts.

The footage, he said, would be made available to reporters and turned over to federal authorities.

``I'm not making a movie,'' he said. ``I'm here as a citizen to stand up for the right to vote.''

I can't resist gloating a little. This, from the comments over at DailyKos:

"Carrville just surrendered.
No one is questioning the legitimacy of this election.
America is officially dead."

No, my leftie friend, America is very much alive and kicking. And four years from now, when the gas ovens and the gulags, which you in your hyperbolic fevered moonbat nightmares have so greatly feared, STILL have not come to pass, and America is STILL the land of the free and the home of the brave, maybe you'll snap out of it and realize what absolute putzes you and your whacko friends have been.

In my 20 years of watching the political scene, I don't think I've ever stepped into the voting booth with such a sense of portent and weight as I did today. I knew that this moment was important, not just for my country, but for the world. I feel as though America, and the world, have just dodged a huge and ugly bullet. There were so many implications that hinged on the outcome of this election, I just felt like our very civilization was on the line.

But I am most glad for the message that we've sent. They tried forged documents and 11th-hour hit pieces. They tried voter intimidation, trashing of party headquarters, slashing tires, and vandalizing yard signs. They tried labor union thuggery. They tried armies of lawyers. They tried a virtual onslaught of negative news against the President.

And none of it worked.

For that, I am most grateful. Because it shows that truth and honesty can still win the day.

God bless America, God bless George W. Bush, and God bless the Lizard Nation!

318 daver  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 8:18:05pm

Out of 1,333,995 votes cast in Iowa, Bush is currently behind by 185 votes, with 12% of precincts unreported.

319 SouthAmericanWay  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 8:18:12pm

Don't worry about Ohio becoming as close as Florida/2000 (BTW, thank you 2004 Floridians!!!).

Ashland, Clermont, Hamilton, Licking, Medina, Miami, Tuscarawas, Warren Counties are relatively populous very Republican Counties whose votes are far from being completely tallied. By themselves they can offset Bush’s loss in what remains of Cuyahoga-Cleveland.

Winning the popular vote with over 50% is incredibly sweet this time around!!!!

I'm still holding my breath for the last electoral vote.

COME ON NEW MEXICO!

355 danightman  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 8:21:21pm

BTW, as a historical footnote, you have two records made tonight. Not only is Bush the first President to win a second term after losing the popular vote but winning the electoral in his first run, which is historic enough, but he's the first President in four election cycles to win a majority of the popular vote (if trends hold).

Wonder how the MSM will spin that one?

356 Gordon  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 8:21:21pm

Congratulations to President Bush on his victory. I truly wish him the best over the next four years, because if he does well, our country will do well.

Well, get used to saying it, Gordon:

PRESIDENT George Bush.

One mischievious note: the exit polls seem to have been all wrong. I'm always glad when the pollsters are wrong - I will be especially glad if it turns out they are wrong because PEOPLE LIED TO THEM.

As an evangelical Christian, I would like to personally thank the fine people of Ohio and Florida. While you might not have voted for the same reasons, nonetheless you've given me hope for a much brighter future.

By the way...as I was typing this, for those elitists who mock us dumb Christians, I understand it was the evangelical vote who put Bush over the top this time in both Ohio and Florida - that from MSNBC (hardly a fan of Christians).

Indeed, the Lord does work in mysterious ways.

Well well well. Tom Brokaw is smiling and relaxed. Could he be glad? Maybe he too feels strangled by the orthodoxy. Maybe he too wants to stick it to authority.

After Brokaw nailed Kerry in that interview last week and skimming his "Greatest Generation" book (my Mom gave it to me, not realizing I see him as a leftist tool), I'm beginning to think he got personally, viscerally disgusted with sKerry.

Youth did not vote
by kos
Wed Nov 3rd, 2004 at 02:57:19 GMT

MSNBC exit poll indicates that the youth did not vote. The 18-29  bracket voted the same this year as in 2000, while 30-44 group was down.

That's what's killing us.

Hahahahahahaha. Slackers. Did. Not. Vote.

Oh . . . wait . . . I'm in the 30-44 age group. Ok, LLL slackers did not vote :)

382 Athos  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 8:24:04pm

The Kerry Spot on NRO has a minor correction - apparently when Carville said it was over, he was referring to the ELECTION not just Ohio.

NBC has called the election for the President - they also have the 269 called at this point and know the House will elect the President.

Expect another hour or so for the next major calls.

There will be threats and some legal challenges at the Presidential level - but the lead / issue will be very muted compared to 2000.

If Kerry had any class - he would just concede and be a gracious loser. Of course, he has no class.

Extraordinary? You mean like thousands of "new" Democratic ballots appearing suddenly out of the blue or piles of litigation from leftists? 407 MikeR  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 8:25:25pm

Ahhhh, the pause that refreshes (drains last of brut rose champenoise)...

I'd conjecture that one reason the MSM is looking so dour tonight is that even if they didn't have a dog in this race, and we know they do, they know damned good and well that payback's coming for their inconceivable betrayal of the principles of fair journalism in their incessant promotion of biased articles and outright lies.

As for that Fat Bowl of Fuck Michael Moore, have heart. Sooner or later, his physique is going to betray him. And all the ill-gotten money in the world won't stop it.

On the upside? This election has given me faith that the U.S. hasn't completely forgotten what we stand for, nor will we go the way of other civilizations that made the wrong choices at critical junctures.

Cheers!

The Dem are trying to figure out how many votes to count.

416 sunny  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 8:26:33pm

The message from KOS:

"The networks have essentially called this one for Bush. There are still votes to be counted, and Kerry better not get it in his head to concede before all of them are counted.
The networks won't decide this election as they did in 2000.

Once the votes are counted, and the final result is determined, then we can talk about what we need to do.

I've always said today was merely a battle in a long war. The GOP built its electoral dominance over 40 years by building a massive, well-funded message, training, and media machine.

We started putting ours together last year.

You all have much to be proud of. But please don't think your job is done, or that your hard work was all for naught. It's not, and it wasn't.

This is just the beginning, not the end. Regardless of who takes that oath next January we still have a war to wage. We won't wage it with violence, but by building a solid foundation for a new progressive movement. "

It hurts...

If New Mexico goes to Kerry along with everything but Ohio, it's dead even, 269-269.

Edwards is being joined in his suit by Tom Daschle, and a number of as yet unnamed co-plaintiffs who will not be returning to Congress and the Senate in January.

I can hear the left now as they move to the courts to try to do what they can't do at the ballots: "Twice selected, never elected." You heard it hear first.

But, that's fine...let them say it all they want wherever they want...just stay out of the White House and the Majority Leaders' offices!

Will be interesting to see how the evangelical vote affected the outcome.

See BS reported (yeah, I know, that's an oxymoron) that the #1 issue among Ohio voters in the exit polls was moral values...24% of the voters rated it tops. Of those voters, Bush got 75% of the vote.

So I think you're right....you delivered, big time. Congratulations and on behalf of the rest of the country, thanks!!

Why then do liberal media sites like CNN and the New York Times say

Ohio and its 20 Electoral College votes being the key, and where there is not yet enough information to make a projection.

Sounds like they sense a legal challenge by the Kerry campaign. There is still time for the Democrat lawyers to turn Ohio into Florida with snow.

Kerry 2,546,176 votes 49%

95% reporting.

There are not. I repeat, not 102,000 provisional/absentee ballots waiting for Kerry.

Also bear in mind, these figures are with 99% of Cuyahoga county reporting, and only 68% of Hamiliton County reporting. The lead is going to widen.

I was watching (mostly Fox) on TV until an hour or 2 ago, I am now "watching" the race online. (No TV in our house, we were watching at a neighbors.)

Is Brit Hume still "awake?" (he looked half asleep most of the night anyway) and he looked like he needed a relief pitcher to fill in.

I like Fox, but he was hard to watch, although we got a lot of laughs in at his energy level and his hopes that it would all end soon so he could go to bed.

Kerry is starting to look like that character on Saturday Night Live - back when it was funny - who finally conceded that he had lost when the margin was 80% to 20% with only 2% left to count...

The man has no class - never really has - and no judgement and when Terrayyza dumps him he won't even have a pot to p*ss in!

Pathetic really is a good word for him, except he is truly unworthy of pity.

Even Chris Mathews is showing skepticism...

Maybe there will be a tight race between Bill Clinton and sKerry for that UN seat!

Maybe he's going to just slink out of the country as if he were in Cambodia on Christmas eve...

I was listening to Ohio Sec. of State Ken Blackwell earlier. According to him, there were no more than 40,000 provisional ballots issued in the entire state today, and about 50,000 absentee ballots remain to be counted. Even if all of these go to Kerry (which is not going to happen; absentee ballots historically break for the Republican candidate) it would not make up the difference. The Kerry camp's idea that there are 250K votes out there waiting to be counted is utter nonsense.

Current Ohio votes with 96% reporting. Total difference between the two candidates is 122,045 votes, with 25% of the votes in Hamilton County (Cincinnati and suburbs, strongly republican area) yet to be counted.

Well according to Yahoo 101% of the precincts in NM have reported, it's Bush 52%, Kerry 47% and yet it;s still only "tending towards" Bush.

How the hell do you count 101% of the vote? Did NM grow a new precinct or something? Maybe I'm tired.

In some bad news WI just rolled back to tredning towards Kerry. WIth 93% precincts reporting.

Looking at the yahoo map if OH is still in play at 98% precincts reporting with Bush 51% and Kerry 48% then MI should still be in play with the 81 % reporting and Bush 48% and Kerry 51 %.

629 E. Nough  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 10:23:55pm

Yeah, I did a little Excel work on the county-by-county numbers provided by Yahoo.

I assumed that proportions from each county would remain the same -- it's late enough in the day that I doubt there will be any major shifts.

Which meant the formula looked like this, for each county:

(Current Bush votes - Current Kerry Votes) / (Reporting Precincts / Total Precincts)

This gave me an estimate of how many votes Bush would lead (trail) by in each county. Totalling up the estimates, I got a number of -14,721.8. That means Bush is expected to lose Wisconsin to Kerry by around 14,700 votes.

Mind you, I could be off somewhat, but I doubt that I'm off by over 14,000 votes. Wisconsin will probably go to Kerry. Currently, Kerry leads by 28,000 votes.

Data here: [Link: network.ap.org...]

Anyway, work tomorrow, and it's freaking late. Good night, all. I look forward to Kerry's humiliation in the courts, and the teeth-gnashing from Europe et al.

630 Miggie  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 10:27:11pm

CNN says the President is going to come out and make a statement tonight (not send his 2nd like Kerry) and they speculate whether he will declare victory or say let's count all the votes in Ohio. Probably he will say all the math is in our favor but stop short of claiming victory. He has to handle it so the Dems don't carry a grudge around for another 4 years.

631 Cattle-Dog  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 10:31:51pm

John Kerry has no Votes in the Provisional Ballots.

If you look at the provisional ballots issued at http://election.sos.state.oh.us/ProvBallots.htm and then you look at how those counties voted, it's clear that it is game over for Kerry.

I grabbed the provisional data from the Ohio Election site and assumed that counties would generally go with the trend they ended with availble here. I then created a table of how one could assume the rest of the ballots would break out.

George Bush gaines more votes in the Provisional Ballots than John Kerry in OH!

Game. Set. Match.

632 myoclonic jerk  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 10:35:14pm

The MSM is behaving strangely. Dan Rather seems to think that the race is a tie, and his team is already talking about counting chads in Ohio. Jennings is belligerent and defending the Kerry lunatics' decision to postpone the inevitable. Tom Brokaw just seems hurt that Americans don't mindlessly follow his lead. These guys all lose their inhibitions after 9 hours on TV. Dan is by far the most biased, to the point of lunacy. What none of these guys realize is that the MAJORITY of Americans don't want to see a court battle, and the MAJORITY of people don't like Kerry for what he is. They'll never learn. Of course, the NY Times has this headline:

"BUSH HOLDS LEAD
-------------------------------------------------- --------------
Kerry Refuses to Concede Tight Race;
G.O.P. Keeps Grip on Senate and House "

Is loosing now considered a "tight race?" Did Florida make definitively calling an election without a court battle impossible?

What's great is the democrats are BLEEDING PROFUSELY and they are gonna make it worse by continuing to fight! I LOVE IT!

Thanks for the Ohio Sec. of State website. It shows that 76,027 provisional ballots were issued in Ohio.

With 98% of the votes counted, Bush leads by about 139,000.

It doesn't take a genius to see that even if all of the provisional votes went to Kerry, Bush would still win. Nevertheless the Democrats are hanging their hat on those provisional ballots. Huh?

Why doesn't Kerry just concede? I'm tired and want to go to bed.

634 E. Nough  Tue, Nov 2, 2004 10:38:18pm

Just read at NBC that the Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell said the best estimate was that as many as 175,000 provisional ballots were cast, a number that also includes civilian and military ballots cast overseas.

With 76,000 provisional votes cast as per the Ohio Sec. of State website that leaves 99,000 ballots cast overseas by civilians and the military. Methinks our boys and girls in uniform are pretty much for Bush.

Get real Kerry, YOU LOST.

I'm from Ohio, voted Bush, and I am damn proud of both.

Ohio, Fuck Yeah.

This from DU...

"The media is trying to steal this for Bush."

Play # 43.a. from the Leftist Playbook.....blame the other person for exactly what you are trying to do.

Oh and btw - anyone from the South, you should see the Dems losing it over losing big down here....everything from hillbilly jokes, to racist slurs to ...well, it's the biggest bunch of sad, pathetic ignorance I've ever seen....view it here - Liberals Call Southerners Stupid etc. Somene says we should be allowed to leave the union....trust me, if you think "America " is just California and the northeast, WE AGREE WITH YOU, YOU LEFTISTS...

Reagan's campaign slogan from '84 seems appropriate here:

It's Morning Again in America

I was a presiding judge in an Ohio precinct yesterday. We had six provisional situations. Everything was handled on the square. We had two Dems and two Repubs working as was the case everywhere.

I can't believe the way CNN especially, and all of them in general, are so far off from a reality of which I have personal knowledge. The idea that there's some army of tens of thousands of disenfranchised individuals that stood in the rain for hours only to be denied by vote-suppressing lawyer thugs for the Republicans is just nuts.

It rained here all day. The legions of newly-registered young voters stayed home. The Republicans got out their vote better, simple as that.

The electoral system in Ohio is healthy and sound, I'm proud to say. To think there there are huge blocks of Kerry votes unaccounted for is scarily detached from sanity, and shows how hard it will be for post-election reconciliation. I think the climate will get worse first, not better.
