I agree this was way too close for comfort and I may not stop worrying until Kerry concedes. However, if Bush gets Iowa and a few others, that would be great.

But, really, it is a close election, though Bush got the popular vote, and I'm not sure anyone can gloat. When I tried to close my eyes here a few hours ago (at 5:00 am UK time), I thought it was all over for Bush. My husband, who voted for Bush, tried to make me feel better by saying Kerry will not be able to do much with a Republican House and Senate. But the idea of hearing "cycle of violence" and the world returning the Israel-Palestinian conflict to front and center, made me nauseous. (Actually, I've been nauseous all day.) A friend living in the UAE, who speaks Arabic and sees the Arab point of view, felt a Kerry win would put the Mideast into a tailspin. "See, and he's not even Jewish," I can say to my Jewish relatives who believe there's more to voting than concern for Israel.

The math just isn't there for Kerry to win Ohio and he knows it.

A 150,000 vote deficit can't be made up with 100,000 to 200,000 provisional and absentee ballots. To do so would assume that all the ballots are valid and more than 50% will go for Kerry.
