Before we consign Yasser Arafat to the sewers of history, there are two more articles worth reading about the defunct terrorfish:

Arafat Gets the Di Treatment, by Tom Gross; and

The Father of Modern Terrorism, by Andrew C. McCarthy.

UPDATE at 11/12/04 5:06:23 pm:

Make that three more articles: Bin Laden’s inspiration, by Alan Dershowitz.

I'm all for cremation (As long as the prevailing winds are blowing toward "Palestine"--Egypt and Jordan). After all, I'm afraid that if simply buried he would return again and again like something on a creepy Sci Fi monster movie.

You know the one where the evil, ugly monster in a keffiyah keeps climbing out of the grave and killing school kids? That one.

After watching the coffin SWARM, I've seen enough of Arafat forever.

I will studiously ignore all further stories about the fish.

Stories about the Palestinian coffin swarmers, however, I will continue to follow.

People such as these should not be allowed to possess sharp impliments of any kind or anything that goes "boom!" They should be returned to milking goats for the next several centuries while they grow the fuck up.

The McCarthy piece is fantastic. He's especially down on Clinton's desperate desire to force the issue when Clinton knew full well that Arafat was a lying sack of murderous shit who wasn't go to change his ways.

WSJ's OP Ed. is right on, as always.

Of course, "the Palestinian people" would have had a state in 1948 had the Arabs not immediately declared war on the nascent state of Israel. Arafat, who founded the Palestine Liberation Organization in 1964, was instrumental in developing a Palestinian political culture centered on rejectionism, anti-Semitism and terrorism.

Read the whole thing by subscribing to the WSJ's daily email. Just go to their website.

The world is truly upside down. Christians are called gun-loving and intolerant. The Muslims are called victims, with a faith that is compassionate and merciful.
The Pali's sure have the gun-loving thing over us Christians anyday! They fire those guns for every occasion. Births, weddings, funerals, oh, and jihad!

Bush=Hitler and Arafat=Nobel Peace Prize

The blue sates buy the drivel of the Islamic Fascists, and the red sates are called dumb.

A traitor like Kerry meets with terrorists and lies in hearings to Congress but is called a hero, and the heros that fought for more than four months or actually received more than a band-aid for their wounds are called criminals and liars.

Watching the Pali's receive the dead fish today while listening to "professionals" use words like "orderly", "calm," and "dignified was like watching a rape and hear it described as an intimate showing of love and affection!

I am so confused!

sorta OT: Am I wrong to be outraged by this???

CBS Axes Producer for Arafat Cut-In
CBS News has axed a news producer who cut into prime-time programming Wednesday night to report the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
The staffer, a female senior producer for CBS’s overnight newscast Up to the Minute, broke in to CSI: N.Y. shortly before 11 p.m. with the report, outraging viewers who missed the end of the crime drama.
CBS apologized for the interruption Thursday, saying an “overly aggressive” staffer “jumped the gun on a report that should have been offered to local stations for their late news.”
As for the producer’s dismissal, a CBS spokesperson said Friday, “We do not comment on personnel issues.” CBS planned to repeat the CSI: N.Y. episode Friday night to placate viewers.

This producer gets the axe, BUT, the producer who produces fake documents to try to nail the President is somehow unscated

PBS Washington Week has Thomas Friedman positioned as the moderate/conservative voice of reason on Israel and Palestine, talk about a heavy thumb on the right side of the scale. Friedman presenting splitting of Jerusalem as a forgone conclusion. What a whitewash.

Did I mention how disgusted I am that W is repaying Blair's participation in Iraq on the backs of the Israelis. Next step: any election at all in the P.A. will be "proof" of compliance with the roadmap to hell.

42 thibaud  Fri, Nov 12, 2004 4:44:21pm

Here's the Palestinians' own (former) champion, the recently deceased US-based intellectual Edward Said, describing the results of Arafat's reign of terror in June 2002:

"If there is one thing along with Arafat's ruinous regime that has done us more harm as a cause it is this calamitous policy of killing Israeli civilians, which further proves to the world that we are indeed terrorists and an immoral movement. For what gain no one has been able to say."

"Huh, uh hello. Is this God?"
"No sir, this is the receptionist."
"Uh, can I speak to God?"

"Uh, no. Uh, could you just put Him on the phone? I need to talk to Him."
"God doesn't do phone interviews. You must see Him in person."
"I am a dignitary. Can I please just speak with Him briefly?"
"That would not be possible, sir."
"But, I won the Nobel Peace Prize."
"I'm sure you did, sir, but we don't keep records of awards here, they're kept on Earth. Would you like to schedule a visitation with the Almighty?"
"Yes, please, I would like to..."
"What is your name, sir?"
"Arafat."
"Spell that please?"
"A-R-A-F-A-T"
"First name?"
"Yassir."
"I am not a man, please don't call me sir! What is your first name?"
"No,no. You don't understand, my name is Yassir."
"Oh, yes. I've heard of you."
"Yes, thank you. I really need to speak with God."
"Date of birth?"
"August 24th, 1929."
"Let me just check the computer, please hold... Date of death November 10th, 2004, leader of the PLO, conducted terrorist activities, (mumble...) Oh, I'm sorry sir, you have been red-flagged."
"Wa... what do you mean?!"
"Well, sir, I am afraid you are not eligible at this time."
"Elig... What do you mean I am not eligible?!"
"Eligibility is dependent upon many factors. I can send you a free pamphlet regarding eligibility if you would like. It's a very good read, most people consider it the Bible on eligibility."
"Bu... but I saved a race of people! I single-handedly established a homeland for millions of Palestinians!"
"Well, sir it is not my place to judge. Would you like to take up your claim with the Under-secretary?"
"Under-secretary? Who is that?"
"You know, the head of the other place - down below."
"No! No! I want to speak to God."
"Well, sir, as I have explained, you are not eligible at this time, however; there is another process that you may apply for."
"Yes, yes, and what is that process?"
"You may speak to other representatives who can lobby on your behalf."
"Really?? How does that work?"
"I will put you in touch with a representative of your choice."
"OK, who should I contact?"
"Let's see, who's available... oh, here... Erma Trighley or Jamie Feldman."
"I've never heard of them. Who are these people?"
"Oh. Let me look up their credentials. OK, here we are. Ms. Trighley was a passenger on the commercial aircraft that you had ordered blown up in flight. She had a husband and four children who were quite young when she was killed."
"Oh, no! I don't want her! How about the other guy?"
"OK. Hmm... Mr. Feldman was a fifth grade student at a grammar school in Israel when his bus was fire-bombed by...it says here, one of your followers. Is that right?"
"I... I don't know. Maybe your records are incorrect."
"Sir, this is heaven. I can assure you these records are quite accurate"
"Oh God! Is there anyone else I can speak to?!"
"Oh, certainly, sir. There are several thousand individuals to whom you may appeal. Let's see... most of them are Israelis, but there are Americans, Europeans and even a surprising number of Palestinians."
"Oh! Let me contact a Palestinian, please!"
"OK, how about... Prisa Uhkbad?"
"Sure, if she is a Palestinian."
"Yes, she is a middle-aged woman who pleaded with you to stop the cycle of violence during a confrontational street demonstration. Her son was subsequently severely injured when he was hit in the head with a brick and later pronounced brain-dead at the hospital. She just joined us recently and is free tomorrow. Would you like to meet with her?"
"I... I... I don't... is there any other possibility?!"
"Yes Mr Arafat, there is one other alternative."
"Oh, thank you! What should I do?"
"You can repent for your grievous sins against humanity."

Eric Margolis of the Toronto Sun writes the most disgusting "Arafat the Savior" piece I have seen yet:

Yasser Arafat, who died yesterday, tirelessly waged a four-decade struggle to right the deep injustices his people had suffered. In the process, he met and overcame more daunting obstacles than any other modern leader.

Virtually all men's hands were against the 5.5 million Palestinian refugees whose ancestral lands had been seized by Israel in the 1948 and 1967 wars. The Palestinian state called for by the UN in 1949 was secretly divided up by Israel, Jordan and Egypt.

...In spite of his tough talk, Arafat sought peace with Israel on numerous occasions based on an Arab state holding 21% of original Palestine. But each time, the Israelis moved the goalposts away and stalled, intent on buying time to finish colonizing the West Bank and Golan.

The vast majority of the world has been so brainwashed
by the media and "educational" instiitutions (read social engineers) that they have no idea of right or wrong or which way is up. People need to stop believing everything delivered by these propagandists and start using COMMON SENSE on their own accord. Or is that "uncommon sense" in this day and age.

And, as for Arafat, he should have been flushed at birth.

54 Loch Inkopf  Fri, Nov 12, 2004 8:52:52pm

#25 Julia the Horrible (I'm sure you're not)

Actually, the Palestinian Arabs had an even better chance ten years earlier to get their state. In 1938, following years of anti-Jewish violence in what was then British Mandate Palestine, they were offered all of the country save a tiny postage-stamp sized reservation in the Tel Aviv-Haifa area for the Jews. They refused. (The Jews accepted; with the Holocaust imminent, they would have accepted Devil's Island, anywhere, as a place of refuge.)

In 1947, the Palestinian Arabs were offered half of the country by the UN. They refused, and started a war which by the way they lost. The Jews accepted, and finished the war, which by the way they won.

Four years ago, the Palestinian Arabs were offered a quarter of the country by the Israelis. They refused, and started an intifada, which by the way they lost.

You may perhaps see a pattern here. Didn't Abba Eban once say something about the Palestinians never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity?

In any way, the euthanasia drama over Arafats death has left a permanent imprint on Europe, the Islamic states now see us through the prism of the AraFat Lady. Don't worry about your sanity. With respect to everything else you would not agree with Professor Dershowitz. I was at a talk he give last week and while he passionately supports the State of Israel, he refuses to believe that it is the Left in this country that are the anti-Semites. He recognizes that almost no professor is willing to stand up for Israel and the Jews, but will all his brilliance he is incapable of connecting the dots to see that it is their Leftist ideology that causes them to be anti-Semitic. He still believes that it is the evil right wing Republicans lead by Pat Buchanan that are responsible for anti-Semitism here.

All amazing articles. I particularly liked The Father of Modern Terrorism, by Andrew C. McCarthy. If you follow the link from this bit ...

As recalled in the riveting account of "Black September" by hostage David Raab, all the hijacked flights were bound from Europe to the United States. One, a Pan-Am 747, was taken to Cairo, where it was blown up on the tarmac just after the passengers were allowed to exit. A second, targeting an El-Al aircraft, was foiled in flight by Israeli sky marshals. But a TWA 707 and a SwissAir DC-8, with a combined 310 passengers and crew, were hijacked to a Jordanian dessert. The terrorists segregated Israeli, American, Swiss, and West German passengers for captivity — releasing the others — and threatened to kill the hostages and blow up the planes unless jailed militants were released. Under international pressure, King Hussein resolved to reassert control. War broke out on September 13. By the time it ended two weeks later, the hostages had been released, but over 2,000 people had been killed as Arafat and his terrorist band were driven out of the country.

Remembrance of Terror Past
By DAVID RAAB

After 34 years, I was standing once again at the house in Amman where, as a 17-year-old, I was held hostage by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

On Sunday, Sept. 6, 1970, the P.F.L.P. tried the first quadruple hijacking in history, commandeering planes headed to the United States from Europe. One carrier, a Pan Am 747, was diverted to Cairo and blown up in protest only moments after passengers cleared its wings. Another attempt was foiled when the pilot threw his El Al airliner into a nose dive, giving sky marshals the chance to subdue the hijackers. The two other planes -- a T.W.A. 707 and a Swissair DC-8 -- with 310 crew members and passengers landed in the desert northeast of Amman. My mother, my four siblings and I were aboard the T.W.A. plane, heading home to Trenton after a summer in Israel.

The next day, the P.F.L.P. moved about 125 passengers to Amman, but kept American, Israeli, Swiss and West German citizens on the planes. The hijackers sought freedom for their jailed compatriots and threatened to blow up the planes with us in them. For a week, we sat in the desert, in our metal containers, enduring 120-degree days, 40-degree nights and no functioning toilets. Our captors provided minimal water and food. We were put on display for the bandoleered, machine-gun-toting guerrillas who traipsed through the plane. Fear was ever-present, but there was no panic: a P.F.L.P. doctor doled out tranquilizers. Having netted few Israelis, the P.F.L.P. interrogated Jewish passengers, including my mother, in order to find more.

At 2:30 a.m. on Friday, as I slept soundly for the first time, I was tapped by the co-pilot, who said, ''They want you up front for questioning.'' As I got up, I began shaking uncontrollably. My mother, sitting behind me, heard the rustling and quickly followed. She was warned at gunpoint to sit down.

There's more. Apparently he's writing a book about the events of Black September.

His Fatal Flaw; No Vision and No Courage

I never could bring myself to tell my Aunt Sadie, but I once shared chicken soup with Yasser Arafat. It was at the end of a long interview, one of several with him over the years. "Come have lunch," he said in a tone decidedly more congenial than our conversation had been.

On the table was a tureen of broth with chunks of boiled chicken floating in it. "My favorite," he said. "I have it every day." I made a joke, of course, about chicken soup being Jewish penicillin. He didn't get it.

And that was the problem: Arafat never got it.

--

What was Arafat's fatal flaw? Why did a man who had both the opportunity and the intellect to deliver his people a state of their own fail to do so?

He lacked the realism, the vision and, most important, the courage to make the shift from terrorist to statesman. He spoke (in Arabic) not of peace with Israel but of a truce, something he could always break. And he refused to tell his people that Israel never would commit demographic suicide by letting millions of Palestinians return.

He also feared that if he ever told his people to accept a state that was less than what he had promised, he would lose stature, popularity and the place he believed he deserved in Arab history.

False pride is often a fatal error in the Arab world - a character flaw born not of heroism but of cowardice.

The point I was making was not that Pat Buchanan wasn't an anti-Semite (he has been one his whole life) but that he was no longer a member in good standing of the Republican Party. The Republicans have purged their party of open anti-Semites while the Democrats have welcomed them with open arms.

The real Richard, I'm not sure that they've all been "purged" but you definitely have a point there, especially about being openly anti-Semitic. Buchanan is an anti-Semite, regardless of his politics. Sometimes it's not a left or right, democrat or republican issue.

Was taking a break from yard clean-up and flipping channels to catch the latest new, caught a portion of CNN's memorial piece on Arafat-the-peace-maker.
My mouth fell open.
I knew CNN was LL, but I did not know it was anti-Israel, and it has to be to have aired such a bio praising piece of bs.
I had to turn it off, because 'eggplant's nuke postings
already had my bloodpressure raised.

You can tell what they think of our music by the places we are forced to play it in. This looks like a good spot for a livestock show. -- The Mothers of Invention were opening for Cream in April of 1968 in Chicago. The place was very large and did look like it had been used for displays of cattle and other such animals.
