Left-Wing Racism

Fri, Nov 19, 2004 at 3:16:24 pm PST

A Wisconsin radio host refuses to apologize for calling Condoleezza Rice an “Aunt Jemima.”

An unrepentant Sly explained why he called the nominee to be secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, an “Aunt Jemima” and outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell an “Uncle Tom” on the radio Wednesday.

Sly, the on-air name for John Sylvester, told WTDY-AM (1670) morning show listeners that Rice, who is black, bought her way into the White House with obedience to President Bush.

“I’m not apologizing for what I said,” Sylvester said Thursday in an interview. “I stand by it.

”I was aiming that directly at a black person that is letting himself (and herself) be used by an administration that has been extremely hostile to minorities,“ he said.

”Being subservient and being a black role model are two different things. I think (Rice) has not only been bad for the country and for national security, but I think she’s been a bad black role model.

“I don’t think being subservient to white people and not blowing the whistle on their misdoings is a good role model at all.” ...

Sylvester, who is also program director, said he would not take himself off the air nor would station owners, the Mid- West Family Broadcast Group. General Manager Tom Walker did not return phone calls Thursday.

Sylvester said the issue was being stirred by Milwaukee talk show host Charlie Sykes. “I didn’t think anything about it,” he said. “I think I’ve even said it before. Anybody who knows me knows I’m not a racist.”

“I did call her the Aunt Jemima of the administration because I think not only have they used her race as a trophy, but I think her price of admission to the White House has been complete obedience to the white power structure in the White House,” Sylvester said. “(And) I called (Powell) Uncle Tom. Frankly I think they bought his silence.”

2 JonB  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 1:19:13pm

Same as always. If it was a conservative saying the same of a liberal black person, there'd be fire and brimsto.. well, not fire and brimstone, that's a religious thing, but there would be a whole lot of whining and crying for sure.

3 Daybrother  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 1:20:49pm

Actually, I hear a lot of complaints by the left that Bush's cabinet members don't "stand up to him" and other such crap. Since when is a member of the administration supposed to oppose the President? Does that even make any sense at all? Jerks and idiots.

4 Golden Jerusalem  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 1:21:19pm

Damn, they're coming thick and fast now.

I'm having trouble figgering out which one's the drinking thread now.

5 Elisa  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 1:21:22pm

What is most telling is that it doesn't seem to even occur to this assbite that his criticisms of Rice and Powell could have been made WITHOUT resorting to racial slurs.

6 Poitiers-Lepanto  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 1:22:05pm

Well, these poor guys want to be friends of the islamofascists, so something fascist they must adopt, you know, just as a present for their paleo-lovers...
And muslims hate and despise Black People, whom they call with a word that means "SLAVE", so racism is a good gift that our lefties can bring to their marriage with the islamofascists.

7 floranista  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 1:22:28pm

The left can make all the racist comments they want and get merely a slap on the hand - if that. We all know what happened to Trent Lott, yet a few months later Chris Dodd makes comments of the same ilk re: Robt. Byrd and no one says anything with the exception of Fox News. The analogy with Rush's comments about Donovan McNabb was spot on.

Some more 'ends justify the means' liberalism from the People's Republic of Madison. Feh! I'm proud to say President Bush carried my little part of the Dairy State by 67% :)

Here in WI, the moonbats are still in a state of rabid, frothing rage over Bush's victory. After the Kerry/Springsteen rally in Madison (80,000 people), they were certain of victory, and not just a squeaker but a huge mandate for their boy.

They lost.

Now we're dealing with the vomitous fallout.

16 AtlasShrugged  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 1:26:28pm

Dr. Condi.....the quintessential black female role model; brilliant, sharp, ascerbic, courageous, singular, ballsy all the right stuff

who exactly is a positive role model in the eyes of sty (oops) sly..........lil kim? dr dre? rev jesse jackson? louis farakhan? snoop dog? kelly?

what is sorely lacking in the african american community is the kind of leadership that only a Dr Rice can provide. People like pig sly are the real racists - trying to keep the black community down, out and uneducated..............aka indentured generation after generation.

Fallujah captives: Saddam set up insurgency cells in 2001

BAGHDAD — Insurgents captured in Fallujah have told Iraqi military interrogators that most of those fighting in Fallujah were former security officers for the regime of Saddam Hussein.

The insurgents said Saddam organized special operations units, starting in 2001, to counter any foreign invasion in Iraq. Most of those units, the insurgents said, are still active in the Sunni Triangle.

30 Bob G.  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 1:35:43pm

Blacks like Sylvester have internalized the slave mentality, which is why they are mindlessly rebellious, oppositional, and passive-aggressive. It's just a reaction formation to their own unconscious dynamics, projected onto others. Cognitively he's still on the plantation, while Condi is free.

As a minority (American-Filipino), I'm pretty well disgusted by the free pass that liberals get for racism, but as a Republican, I'm happy to see the left dig itself deeper and deeper. It's funny: a Jew who trashes Israel (a la Finkelstein, Chomsky, etc) is considered a "brave Jew" by the LLL crowd, yet a Black Republican is an "Uncle Tom/Aunt Jemima" - for refusing to conform to the lefties' expectations of them, perhaps?

Everything is relative, I guess...

I'm really ticked off about this, because is disses Condi, whom I greatly admire, AND Aunt Jemima, whom I just happened to meet when I was 7.

I KNOW, I know - Aunt Jemima was portrayed by an actress, who gave a presentation at my gradeschool (in the 50s). I lived in a small town in Colorado with maybe 10 black people tops, and I had exactly ONE black friend (and exactly ONE Jewish friend, for that matter). Boy, was I impressed with this lady. She was smart, talented, funny, and beautiful. I never forgot her. I always thought "intelligent, funny, charming" whenever I heard the name - and do to this day.

Therefore, I think both Condi and Aunt Jemima are dissed.

The American left claims a special dispensation to be racists, hate mongers, bigots and vandals because, as they claim, everyone knows they are not.

They feel entitled to lie, cheat, steal, threaten and anything else that pushes their zealotry because, as they claim, they are manifestly right.

I say, these people are dangerous. They don't care a whit for democracy, they don't even care about the values they accuse the Bush administration of violating.

A more vile contingent of fascist hypocrites have not appeared on the American political scene for a very long time.

Racists, they are. Bigots, they are.

If these people ever get anywhere close to America's steering wheel, the country is in a whole heap'o trouble.

Happily, the chances of that are now ZERO, at least for the next four years.

Let them stew in their own hypocrisy as the nation observes. And a great many people are observing.

77 theheat  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 2:02:02pm

Again, it's shameful the crap they'll pull to discredit someone with credentials like Condoleezza Rice or Colin Powell.

Either one is extremely intelligent and capable. I would love to see some of these LLLs take either one in a debate, and see just how insignificant race or gender is compared to intelligence. I'd put Rice or Powell up against anyone, and I'd venture to even put money on the bet.

These two people have accomplished more than most people do in a lifetime, and the fact they happen to be black, or Condi being a black woman, confirms they were smart and determined. They have a lot to be proud of and I think each of them is a good role model for anyone who aspires to great achievements of any color.

Only in America. Ain't America grand :-)

There is no such thing as that spectrum between Right and Left, Socialism and Fascism. There is on one side Laissez Faire and freedom, and on the other side all variants of socialism, fascism, communism, and interventionism.

It doesn't matter why one believes he has a right to hold a gun to your head. As Bastiat noted, there is only one way to be free, but infinite ways to exert coercion.

/Bastiat, one of only two good people France has ever produced (The other was Victor Hugo).

I thought Dennis Prager nailed this mindset earlier this year.

This is how Bob Kerrey, a member of the 9-11 Commission and former Democratic senator from Nebraska, opened his questioning of Condoleezza Rice before the Commission last week:

"Thank you, Dr. Rice. Let me say at the beginning I'm very impressed, and indeed I'd go as far as to say moved by your story, the story of your life and what you've accomplished. It's quite extraordinary."

It is widely believed in universities and in the media that conservatives are more likely than liberals to be racist and sexist. I have long believed that the opposite is true, that most Democratic politicians and most liberal activists, at the very least, do not regard black people as they do all others and, at worst, believe that blacks are inferior. I am similarly convinced that many men who most rail against sexism and advocate feminism hold women in lower esteem. .....

103 Catttt  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 2:13:29pm

The whole issue of race is irrelevant, and I agree that people who call attention to "racism" are often guilty of their own charge.

To me, race is irrelevant. I've been told (in an admiring way, by a black person) that I look black (when I had a deep tan), I've been dissed (by stupid strangers) who assumed I was American Indian, and I have been told (again, in an admiring way, by an East Indian this time) I look East Indian (had dark glasses on - taking them off ruined the effect). None of those people had any clue of my actual heritage, which is a combination of things, like most Americans. I've also been told I look German, Irish, and French. Go figure.

Condi could be blue with purple stripes and feathers, and she'd still be brilliant, as far as I am concerned.

104 grayp  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 2:13:58pm

Well, here's my $.02. This isn't racism. This is collectivism as manifested in identity politics. It's not about the person, it's about group identity.

The left, here and in Europe revere the collective. Condi is not true to her collective identity. There is a Frontpage article today that is absolutely brilliant. It's titled Hating America, but embedded in there is the true difference between the left and the conservatives.
Long, but priceless

No, Sly doesn't judge people based on their race, only on their loyalty to their group.

Well, this is my first post here. I live in Madison, and while a great many of the liberals here are well spoken and willing to hold a reasoned debate, there are a fair number that won't/can't. We had about 75% vote for Kerry, so there isn't a shortage of teh latter even if they are a small percentage.

Generally, when someone here says something stupid to the tune of, "All republicans are war-mongerers" I respond with "You're calling my mother a WHAT?." People realize they said something stupid and back down, normally. I had one guy in my electronics class actually keep going because he thought he was scoring points against me or something.

You will find a large number of people in this sity supporting this man and what he said. Ignore the firestorm over the use of the term "wetback" in Milwaukee recently...

NAACP: Rice and Powell Not Black

(2004-11-15) -- Washington, D.C. -- The Chairman of the NAACP, Julian Bond and President of the organization, Kweisi Mfume held a press conference today to make its position clear about the Bush Administration's appointees. The NAACP refuted claims that the Bush Administration had placed people of color in extremely high ranking positions. In fact, as part of the written statement, the organization proclaimed that “Rice and Powell are not black.”

Mfume said “We at the NAACP do not recognize the appointments of Rice and Powell as falling under the heading of advancement for colored people. After all, both individuals are white.” Mfume went on to call for the Bush Administration to reach out to people of color and to avoid so-called “token” appointments.

Bond struck a similar chord stating “Clearly, President Bush is making symbolic appointments to buy-off people of color. This is better than what most of Republicans do.” Bond went on to condemn Bush for preventing black voting in the South, for high drug use in black communities and for not speaking at the NAACP when invited. Bond said “It is troubling that he would not come. It appears that we will have to wait for another African-American like Bill Clinton before we get a presidential speaker.”

During the press conference, the NAACP released an official list of black and white people. According to Mfume “We are hopeful that President Bush will consult this list when selecting future cabinet members.”

Cowards' Mindset
Oh those Spaniards, the very flower of enlightened Europe!

LONDON, Nov 18 (Reuters) - British ministers have condemned the 'disgraceful' racial abuse of England's black players during Wednesday's friendly international against Spain in Madrid and demanded that soccer authorities take action.
Monkey noises were heard when Ashley Cole and Shaun Wright-Phillips touched the ball during England's 1-0 defeat and chants of 'If you are not f**king black, jump up and down' rang out from the 55,000 crowd at Real Madrid's Bernabeu stadium.
How much more cultured they are than us poor, provincial racist Americans! (Could you imagine such a chant being raised in, say, the Georgia Dome?)

I’m fairly certain, however, that a player of Arab descent would never be treated in this manner. Not since March 11, 2004, at any rate.

Of course I’m not suggesting that the black British soccer players should blow the Spaniards up. I do, however, find it interesting that the Spaniards felt so secure in the knowledge that such men would not resort to such drastic methods of revenge.

Secure enough to come up with a number of creative ways to call the players nigg*rs to their face.

So we see now how it works, Spain. Racially harass talented men who may be better than your own soccer players. You know they won't hurt you (well, probably not). But roll over and play nice for other men who murder hundreds and maim thousands of your citizens. Got it.

I would assume that there will be no "[bigoted word]" chants in Madrid when, say, Jordan's team comes to play ball.

I'm sure she will have something to say about sylvester the cat....soon.

She said it was not right that we invaded Iraq and are killing all those people. is there one concise place I can direct her to that will set her straight about what is going on in Iraq. OT: This may be a fit subject for a separate FNDT: today is World Toilet Day (link via Tim Blair; no, this is not a joke from iowahawk, Scrappleface, or The Onion): "Toilets 'a forgotten human right.'"

Hygiene experts warn that the long-held silence over the taboo subject of toilets is taking its toll on global health and holding back developing countries. About 400 delegates, including town planners, environment and hygiene experts and toilet designers from around the world have gathered in Beijing for the fourth World Toilet Summit. [cut]

The WTO says people feel like they are living in a civilised society if the toilets are clean. "Toilets need not be dirty," [a spokesman] said. "Toilets can be an enjoyable place and it should be because we visit it about six times a day and spend about three years of our entire life in the toilet. So we should enjoy it."

The host country, China, is known for its smelly and filthy toilets but has been trying to clean up its loos. [cut] With China hosting the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Mr Sim believes such efforts are very timely. "When people come to see the Olympics they need first of all a good toilet," he said. [cut] Friday, incidentally, is World Toilet Day.

I haven't listened to him since before 9-11 because of his Bush Derangement Syndrome. He loves to push his version of class warfare;in his world, everyone is either unemployed because of Walmart or about to lose their job. A few years ago, some listeners convinced him that guns weren't so bad; so now he's a gun rights champion, though I can't see how he gets along with any serious gun enthusiast. He LOVES Canada (the lefty moonbat parts) often driving there just for the weekend. He's worked on several of US Senator Russ Feingold's campaigns and considers him a close friend.

THR: Give us a report card on your dealings with the Bush administration.
Mfume: If there was a report card, it would be absolutely blank. This president, after repeated invitations, has refused to involve the NAACP, meet with or even consider the NAACP in respect to our position or opinion on legislation or administration policy. We have met face to face with every president since Warren Harding. We've worked with the Secretary of Education, Mr. (Rod) Paige, and I've had good relationships with Secretary (of State Colin) Powell and (national security adviser) Condoleezza Rice, but we've not had any real interaction beyond that with this administration.

I was asking myself the same question. I mean, I was completely unaware of the Bush Administration minority hostility epidemic.

And, I would point out, if anyone used blacks as token, it's his idol Bill Clinton. Ron Brown - Commerce Secretary (yeah, like anyone even knew before he died), at whose funeral he friggin' laughed. And don't even get me started on Jocelyn Elders as Surgeon General - the woman was a friggin' charicature.

Secretary of State? NSA? In time of war, you don't GET higher than that. And notice when Powell resigned, he didn't take advantage of the opportunity to put a WASP in his place.

Here is a good "positive" Iraqi site - and a good place to take part in helping our soldiers help kids.

Actor Gary Sinise (Forrest Gump, Apollo 13) and author Laura Hillenbrand (Seabiscuit: An American Legend) started Operation Iraqi Children, a program that will enable Americans to send School Supply Kits to Iraqi children.

There are some really nice pictures on the site. I like the one with excited Iraqi girls surrounding a US GI - a woman. :)

Interestingly, the book on Seabiscuit is hugely popular in Iraq - the kids love it.

What if someone's inside when it starts to clean itself, with the door locked?

[Link: www.cmmonline.com...]

A young boy had to be freed by the Fire Service after becoming trapped inside an automated public lavatory in Devon, it has emerged.
The boy, thought be 10 or 12, became stuck inside the so-called superloo in Plymouth's Central Park on Saturday.

In a statement, the owner of the facility, JC DeCaux, said it did not know why the door failed to operate.

The firm said children aged 10 or under should not use the kiosks unaccompanied as they are weight sensitive.

A member of the public heard cries from help from inside the toilet kiosk which is situated in Plymouth's Central Park.

The fire service was called and the door to the facility was forced open.

The boy was said to be quite distressed but otherwise well.

I can't find the link. I think one boy was killed in such a machine (too short to break the photocell beam) but It may be an urban legend.

When the civil rights bills were passed under the Republican Eisenhower, it was the Democrats traditional southern base that refused to accept integration whole heartedly. So those disgruntled constituencies of the "party of the people" veered furhter left into groups such as the Black Panther terrorists, SNCC, SNAP, PUSH, The Rainbow Coalition, SDS and has metastisized into what is now seen as mainstream: an almost to be First Lady, Teresa Kerry who underwrites the most radical of the left wing thugs: International Answer, Not in Our Name, ISM, etc., ad infinitum. As such they killed ML King's dream of people measured by character rather than skin color in order to press forward with their commie fairy tale of universal equality. So if Condi or Powell don't tow the liberal line ( ie. poor, ignorant, unemployable) the left gratuitously and hypocritically defames them as traitors to their race and has the nerve to call Republicans racist. Other than that I have no strong feelings about the matter. Except thank G-d for The Second Amendment .

Leftists hate successful black people because Leftists have no constituency to exploit when people are well off, educated and accomplished.

As the Hispanic community gets a bigger piece of the American pie, they vote more and more Republican. Asians often vote Republican. The Jewish lobby is becoming more Republican.

If the Democrats don't have any downtrodden masses to exploit, then they have no power at all.

When I see fat rich black men who are liars and race baiters like Jackson, Sharpton and their ilk, I see men who have made themselves wealthy on the backs of exploiting the misery of their fellow men. If they have no one to stand on, they can't stand at all. They have no cause, no purpose. They have nothing.

It is Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice who are the true shining examples for everyone in America, not trashy entertainers and racist exploiters getting rich off of organizations that are supposed to support the rights of the oppressed.

210 It's Miss Donna V. to you  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 4:27:26pm

Interesting. As nmathew pointed out, a right-wing Milwaukee DJ, Mark Belling, was suspended and made to apologize last week for using the word "wetback" on the air. A local Hispanic paper thinks that isn't enough - they want Belling fired.

Now, I'm no fan of either Belling (who is an obnoxious character who doesn't let his callers get a word in edgewise) or the word "wetback." (I have to wonder though, why "wetback" is considered so much more terrible than "redneck." Both terms refer to fieldhands and farm laborers of a particular ethnic origin. Yet, only one is considered an un-PC slur. It is, of course, perfectly acceptable to sneer at poor white people.) But the reaction of the Left to Belling's comment and their almost total silence regarding the "Aunt Jemima" remark beautifully illustrate what a pack of hypocrites they are.

To his credit, Senator Feingold did criticize the "Jemima" comment.

As to the charge that Powell and Rice are "subservient" - since when is serving in an Administration whose aims you admire and try to implement "subservient?" (And Powell, as us old-time LGFers, know, hardly was subservient to the neo-cons when it came to Israel.) Did anybody consider Albright "subservient" to Clinton? (Ugh, that just put an awful image in my head.)

Apparently, the LLL's think the only people Dubya should appoint to his Cabinet are people who will fight him tooth and nail every inch of the way - otherwise, they're just "yes men" (and women). Illogical - but then, when are moonbats logical?

Here's my $.02 on the subject,

Where does "Sly" get off using these racially derogatory (sp)/stereotypes to describe two individuals that had the desire to become successful Americans? Dr Rice was on the faculty at Stanford, and has served the government as a specialist on foriegn affairs, specifically the Russia. As for General Powell - a man who was an average college student that became a four star General (and was not an academy graduate, but a ROTC student), as has served as the Secreatry of State (and is often mentioned as a canidate for President). These two people are role models for the youth of our country to follow and idolize, instead of some of the LLL in the media/entertainment industry.

Memo to Sly - drop the bigot act - for someone that is supposed to be a liberal, you done jacked it up, idiot. Get over the case of MPH that you have becasue your candidate lost the election, take your freaking Prozac and DEAL WITH IT.... If you worked for me, your bytch @$$ would have been unemployed after your had used those racist names on those two Americans.

BTW - The term MPH is a term used for an individual that comes in for sickcall, but claims that they are sick because they don't want to work... some of the vets/active duty military know what I'm talking about

don't forget Clarence Thomas before the demoncrap controled Senate Judiciary Committee:

Mr. Chairman, I am a victim of this process and my name has been harmed, my integrity has been harmed, my character has been harmed, my family has been harmed, my friends have been harmed. There is nothing this committee, this body or this country can do to give me my good name back, nothing.

I will not provide the rope for my own lynching or for further humiliation.

I am not going to engage in discussions, nor will I submit to roving questions of what goes on in the most intimate parts of my private live or
the sanctity of my bedroom. These are the most intimate parts of my privacy, and they will remain just that, private.

In further questions from demoncrap memebers not the least of which was Ted Kennedy he responded in part:

the real impedement to black progress in America is the demoncrap party and it's leftist members

#21 Globular Cluster,

You have to remember, the Demonrats are the party of the Klan. Nathan Fuckin' Bedford Forrest was a Democrat. Kleagle Robert KKK Byrd is a Democrat.

Think about that for a minute. Yeah, there are racists in both parties. The Right tries to marginalize their's (think David Duk, Pat Buchannan, and Trent Lott), but the Left make theirs the "Conscious of the Senate". Only the Democrats have a Klan Kleagle leading their Senate Klavern. I'm personally convinced that the Welfare State (launched by LBJ, a Democrat) was intended to keep the blacks down.

The problem is a lot of blacks are smart, and a lot of them are strong (I'm speaking of mental strength or fortitude, not physical). Condi is probably the best example of this (compare me to Condi, and I don't come off a poor second-best. I'm several orders of magnitude down the scale. And, if ya haven't noticed, I think right highly of myself :-).

To the Left, the worst thing about Condi is she has shown that you can be born black in Mississippi (and a woman), and make it to the highest levels of power in the United States, and you don't fucking need Affirmative Action to get there.

All you need to do is be at the top of your game. Oh, and be among the very best. There aren't many people at Condi's level no matter what color their skin happens to be.

I really hope to see Condi on the ticket in 2008. I'd like to see her head it, but a more realistic ticket is Rudy/Rice, with her becoming President Rice in 2016. I want to see that not to watch Kleagle Byrd's head explode live on national television (although that would be amusing), but because I honestly can't think of any public figure I think is more qualified.

And that, not the color of her skin, or the fact that she's a woman, or a Republican, or anything else, should be why you choose a President.

Look for the Left to try and smear her as a Lesbian because she isn't married. So what if she is (and I'm not saying she is. I neither know nor care. Now Hildabeast? Why do you think Janet Reno kept her job after Waco? I ain't sayin', y'know. I'm jus' sayin' ;-)?

I hope she wins all 40 States. If the Left Coast and South Canada want to secede, well, don’t y’all let the door hit you on the ass on the way out, ya hear.

Well, we were "put" in that part of south Canada, but I will say for sure that if it was not for the corruption in Madison and Milwaukee, that we would have been right there too. It is only Milwaukee and Madison that don't know theire head from a hole in the ground. The rest of the state would be red if not for the cheating and things that were going on. Please don't put us all in the same boat. A lot of us are just being denied the boat in the first place because of lies and generalizations that are being done to normal people. It is not right, but no one has the guts to stand up for family and friends. Wisconsin would look like a pretty wierd checkerboard if they wanted to play it, and well, this was MUCH closer than Ohio. only 11-thousand some. Had people in Madison not been scared by "loving" Dems painting swastikas on people's lawns with grass killer, it might have been even closer. They are still counting votes in Ohio. Here...well I still want to hear bout the fraud in Milwaukee and Madison.... The stories went silent right away. We are not all bad. We just feel helpless.

Did 'sly' get permission from the NAACP to label Condi as an aunt jemima.

Actually, #212 fmfnavydoc,

You kind of understate her qualifications:

She wasn't just on the faculty of Stanford, she was its provost (the equivalent of president IIRC). She didn't just serve the government as a specialist on foreign affairs, she was the top expert on Russian Affairs for the first (GHW) Bush Whitehouse (as some of you may recall, when some pretty damn dicey things were happening in that particular neighborhood). Not exactly the resume of a "token", as you point out. Also, her article in Foreign Affairs was the GWB's foreign policy outline for the 2000 race - not exactly the sort of task one assigns to "tokens".

Miss Donna V:

I posted on my blog about that cartoon. The worst thing about is was that it wasn't funny. Now this is funny (created by Jeff Goldstein).

Some groups (and individuals) take themselves too seriously.

BTW, I know I'm late, but it's nice to see you back. You were missed. :-)

232 Iron Fist  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 5:36:51pm

#225 Juliette,

Thanks, Dolly! I miss you when you aren't around.

Once more!

#227 It's Miss Donna V. to you,

Dilutin’ good whiskey? Dolly, you drink good whiskey straight from the bottle. Even a glass and ice is blasphemy ;-P

233 Renna  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 5:37:58pm

Might I add that it was at the Democrat convention in 1924 that a resolution was introduced to denouce the KKK.

It was bitterly debated and defeated.

234 It's Miss Donna V. to you  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 5:40:39pm

frozen tundra: actually when I read "South Canada, " I thought of New England, not the Upper Midwest. New England with the exception of NH, which flipped blue this time, but just barely, is pretty strongly Dem. The upper Midwest no longer is.

In 2008, I expect the Dems to lose MN and WI. I was very disappointed we stayed blue again this year, but it was close!

The very idea that our neighbor, Minnesota, is close to becoming GOP territory must make Garrison Keilor cry himself to sleep.

If the Left Coast and South Canada want to secede, well, don’t y’all let the door hit you on the ass on the way out, ya hear.

Oh no you don't. The Constitution ain't lettin you off that easy.

Besides, there's still great pheasant, duck and deer hunting, great Trout, Salmon and Striper fishing on the LEFT Coast. See all those Blue Counties on the left coast, 58% non-hunters and non-fisherman.

See all the red counties ... hunters. Fly Fishermen, (and women)

We need y'all to help protect our second amendment rights.

AND Condi came from a Blue County, She was President of Stanford University over on the Pennisula ya know. The Big Game's tommorrow, Standford/Cal. You can be sure she'll be watchin.

E pluribus Unim, just sayin's all.

Night all. CST means it is past bedtime. I look forward to comments in the morning.

Bless y"all!

Racism against people of color, as well as antisemitism are cool if couched in the language of "down with the oppressor." It's all very nuanced and postmodern you see.

Racism is not racism if you call it socialism. You couldn't get away with it if you called the racism "humour." But explain that you are championing the underdog and your racism becomes socially sanctioned and even admired.

238 dr_dog  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 5:47:06pm
I think not only have they used her race as a trophy...

Hm, reminds me of that time Maureen Dowd derided Clarence Thomas as an affirmative-action baby, when his success was obviously not due to liberal racial pandering, but intelligence and hard work on his own part. I guess Condi should apologize for challenging liberal orthodoxy.

239 It's Miss Donna V. to you  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 5:49:13pm

Thanks, Juliette. It's good to see you too!

Iron Fist: What can I say? (Hangs head in shame.) I'm a wuss when it comes to whisky drinkin', but don't hold that against me!!

#235 Havoc,

Condi's a Southern Lady, born and bred in Alabama (for some reason I thought it was Mississippi, but I looked it up this time :-), educated in the very Red mid-west.

She just lived in Enemy territory for a time.

And I never fish for strippers. I just sit quietly, and let them come to me ;-P

(Sorry, folks, I couldn't resist :-)

241 Iron Fist  Fri, Nov 19, 2004 5:57:11pm

#239 It's Miss Donna V. to you,

It's OK, Dolly, I still love you. I hear they have a 12-step program to help you with that ;-P

What a hypocrite. What he's basically saying is that Condi Rice is not qualified for the job (despite evidence to the contrary). What he's basically saying is that she should not have this job. Why? Because she's black.
And Colin Powell. Same reason.

Where the rubber meets the road is if he would have said the same thing about any minority that Bill Clinton placed in high administrative jobs. Probably not. Hypocrite of the first order. And technically he's a racist too.

253 SouthAmericanWay  Sat, Nov 20, 2004 12:17:56am

Actually, I've never quite understood why "Uncle Tom" became a derogatory slur, when Uncle Tom himself was such a powerful symbol for the emancipationist struggle and the humanity of the black man during the Dred Scott era...

254 One_Shot_One_Kill  Sat, Nov 20, 2004 2:57:53am
Did anybody consider Albright "subservient" to Clinton?

No, but that's because "Madeleine Albright" is actually Walter Mondale in drag.

No, really. Google Image both, split screen them and then tell me they are not the same person.

(And don't even get me started on Janet Reno).

255 Passaconaway  Sat, Nov 20, 2004 3:46:48am

>>>>Imagine that Rush Limbaugh calls a famous Black figure "Aunt Jemima"
Imagine Bill O'Reilly calls Colin Powell "Uncle Tom"

Imagine...that it's just another day on right wing hate radio....

* On the day before Yom Kippur in 1999, Mike Savage played tapes of Adolf Hitler's speeches over German military music.

* Savage suggested that homeless people are "living rats" who should be run off the streets and put in state hospitals

* Savage expressed this opinion of nonwhites: "as long as they [non-whites] are uncomfortable in a clean environment run by 'uptight' white people, there's going to be racism. But as soon as America starts to look and stink like the Third World, they'll feel more at home."

256 ExitRamp  Sat, Nov 20, 2004 4:21:34am

The kind of words you might expect from someone who rode the short school bus.

257 Who Watches the Watchmen?  Sat, Nov 20, 2004 5:07:30am

I've heard the same epithet from black talk radio hosts. Apparently Dr. Rice, General Powell, and Justice Thomas are just not "authentic." They've been "brainwashed" by the system to make war on people of color, ya feel me?

For authenticity, we need to look to Ron Artest.

[Link: www.websavant.net...]

NEW YORK (Reuters) - African Americans seeking to reclaim their past are turning a hobby once dominated by racist images into a cultural celebration instead, helping push prices of historical artifacts to new heights.

Documents about black slavery, politics, sports, literature and entertainment are showing up at auctions where once the only choices were mammy dolls, Aunt Jemima cookie jars, figures of boys eating watermelons, "Colored Only" signs and the like.

------------------------------------
Ceramic cookie jars from the 1940s and '50s, mostly in the shape of mammies, now sell for $800 to $900, compared with $25 to $35 in the early '80s, said Lindenberger, a dealer. She sold a plain but rare one with a polka-dotted scarf, made by the Mosaic Tile Co. for $3,000. Another jar shaped like a mammy with an armload of cauliflower went for almost $2,000.

I will cart off any racist cookie jars LLL's find in their attics for free. :-)

259 Milo Minderbinder  Sat, Nov 20, 2004 8:22:39am

There aren't too many things in this world more offensive or more idiotic than some white liberal making pronouncements on who is or is not a "bad black role model".

Liberals just hate it when the colored folks don't act the way they're supposed to.

I was thinking the same thing !

Let them make asses of themselves as the "minoritys" become more conservative, which they will. Its like watching the Hindenburg landing in New Jersey

I just keep hearing that song when I listen to them ..you know,

"If I only Had a Brain ?

261 dog bard  Sat, Nov 20, 2004 9:05:26am

IMO, if Dr. Rice can handle the SoS position over the next four years without it eating her up, and can get rid of some of the worst of those inherited bureaucrat State Dept. staffers... she will be ready for the 2008 RNC ticket. as presidential or vice-presidential candidate.

262 Paul  Sat, Nov 20, 2004 11:37:49am

As Donna V. noted above, Mark Belling (who has subbed for Rush on occasion) was suspended for a week for using the term "wetback" on his radio program just before the election. The reaction here in Milwaukee verged on hysteria. His radio station was picketed, the Milwaukee Journal wrote an editorial denouncing him and printed letters demanding he be fired, a local Hispanic newspaper columnist called Belling "der Fuhrer" and a "nazi", the Milwaukee Common Council even passed a resolution condemning his words.

The uproar over Belling's remarks make the silence over Sylvester's statments even more hypocritical. Nothing from the Milwaukee Journal, nothing frm the Wisconsin NAACP, nothing from the Madison Common Council. Nothing.

263 Bruce Lagasse  Sun, Nov 21, 2004 2:11:22pm

Sylvester: "Anybody who knows me knows I’m not a racist.”

That's probably true. I suspect Sylvester hangs around mostly with other welfare-state liberals and overseers of the Liberal Plantation. In such an echo chamber, "anybody that knows him" regard his comments as the conventional wisdom, and can't understand what the fuss is about. To them, he's "obviously" not a racist.
