Audio of Churchill's UH Speech

Thu, Feb 24, 2005 at 8:44:40 pm PST

Hawaii Reporter has an MP3 audio recording of Ward Churchill’s rambling, disconnected speech at the University of Hawaii; decide for yourself whether he admitted he had no American Indian heritage: Churchill ‘I’m not/on that’ audio. (Hat tip: jwpaine.)

He is less than a quarter indian, about 1/2 less.

2 DaZoid81  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 6:50:56pm

This guy suffers from a serious case of the verbal diarrhea... How about this. "YES" or "NO"... he certainly says he's not at the beginning, but then goes on for another 800 minutes somehow explaining how he is.

3 Bazooki  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 6:52:06pm

THE MORE HE SPEAKS THE MORE HE SOUNDS LIKE A LUNATIC!

4 Ariana  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 6:55:15pm

Folks

Listen to his words after he says.. "to cut to the chase"
What are his next two words? He drops his voice and speeds up the tempo..

that's the question

5 rumcrook  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 6:57:41pm

the best thing about these LLL's is if you give them enough rope they allways manage to hang themselves.

he is the quintesential jackass of the month

6 Buck  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 6:59:00pm

"To cut to the chase on that."

Seems very clear to me.

7 splatterbottom  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 6:59:05pm

Weird Churchill

8 rickmoss  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 6:59:43pm

The American Indian Movement -- on their own website -- says this guy ISN'T a Native American and they -- in the strongest possible terms -- denounce his statements and the fact that he claims to represent Indians.

They say his claim of Indian Heritage comes from being given an "honourary" tribe membership card. These were given away by the hundreds and even Bill Clinton has one.

The AIM is a pretty radical organisation and they think Ward Churchill is too off the wall for them, that's saying something.

9 SoCalJustice  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:00:00pm

The thing that confuses me about the original Hawaii story story is this:

He went on to explain that the issue of whether he is Native American has been blown up by sloppy reporting and reporters quoting other reporters.

Did they just make that up? That's not addressed in their correction.

10 Buck  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:01:10pm

"sloppy reporting and reporters quoting other reporters." is in the speech.

11 Bazooki  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:01:20pm

I think what bugs me about him is the fact that he has us talking about him and that's all he really wanted anyway. I feel so used.

12 RebTex  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:01:57pm

This was covered on O'reilley last evening.
It was clearly "I'm not"

13 DaZoid81  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:04:17pm

Charles, expect a visit from my lawyer sometime early next week. I'm going to visit him tomorrow in an effort to see if I can sue you over the aneurism I have just developed as a result of listening to this. (/sarcasm, needless I hope)

To call this man "verbose" is an insult to people who speak a lot. He stopped making any sense shortly after he said he's not a native american, and then he continued on. He never actually made a point, and the purpose behind his rambling became less and less clear with every word uttered. Is there a word that means the same thing as verbose but carries a more "full of dung" connotation with it? Forgive me, it's been snowing here all day and I've had a few, mental dictionary not firing at full strength. Verbal Diarrhea is the best I'm coming up with.

14 Ariana  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:05:24pm

SoCal

The context of his talk appears to be his defense of lacking Indian ancestry doesn't really matter. It's hard to find a clear train of thought; sort of stream of consciousness blather. Churchill is a verbal version of an accomplished carnaval shell game artist. That's his pattern in the other interviews.

15 AtlasShrugged  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:06:36pm

Unbelievable...the greatest thing that ever happened to Wart Mosquehill's career

16 jwpaine  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:08:45pm

I posted this on the other thread, but it seems more appropriate (and more likely to be useful) here:

If you cannot get on the Hawaii site to download that audio clip, you can try this link, on one of the websites my company hosts (and don't worry, they'll never complain)

17 jwpaine  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:10:51pm

I spent all day today wishing someone would post the audio to that speech, and now that I can listen to it, I'm wishing I could see a clean video of it, to try to read his lips as he spoke that line.

BTW: having listened to Churchill far too much in the past three weeks, I have to say he sounds drunk or high throughout the clip.

18 snowkat  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:12:33pm

He does say "I'm not."

Case closed, he needs to be fired for lying on his EOA for his job.

19 DaZoid81  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:14:34pm

17 - jwpaine

you sure it's not just dementia? I watched him on cspan a week or two ago, and even though I thought he sounded crazy, I could at least recognize the point he was trying to make. I've got no clue what he's trying to get at after he starts talking about a reporter... now, it could just be the beer in me, or it could be that perhaps he was suffering from jet lag and was out of it when he was speaking... it just seems to me his train of thought is a bit erratic.

20 Ariana  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:15:13pm

did anyone else Notice that Ward has compared himself to a "stinking manure pile" LOLOLoL ahahahahah

Ok.. jw.. if you want to go through this effort.. You need someone to study his pronunciation habits.
What sounds like an "I'm sound for one person's regional sound patterns might sound like a "On" sound to another set of regional ears. It really depend's on Churchill's regional sound and later influences through his life. That determination takes an expert as in Professor Henry Higgins.

21 rickmoss  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:15:26pm

I just listened to this "vowel movement" -- I need a shower

22 2X4 wielder  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:16:17pm

Maybe he should ask himself why his tribe seems to have disowned him. Usually that is a big clue that you are an asshole.

23 SoCalJustice  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:16:59pm

I think he says "on that."

He's just not particularly articulate or a good annunciator.

It doesn't make sense to say "I'm not" and then proceed to launch into a long defense of the why "he is."

One thing his is, though, is totally racist.

24 ibmkeyboard  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 7:17:04pm

OT:

Iran girl gets 100 lashes for sex

A teenage girl and two young men in Iran have been sentenced to lashes for having sex.

The court dismissed the girl's claim that we was raped. It said she had sex of her own free will, the official Iran Daily newspaper reported.

The girl was sentenced to 100 lashes because her accusations of rape and kidnap could have landed her partners a death penalty, the Tehran judge said.

Sex outside marriage is illegal in Iran and capital punishment can be imposed.

The young men in the case were sentenced to 30 and 40 lashes each.

#39 Ariana,

Don't worry. The UN is on it.

In December the UN General Assembly voted to censure Iran for human rights violations, including discrimination against women and girls.

Tehran rejected the criticism as propaganda.

They've already taken a vote, and if things get really bad they may take another vote.

Major Moonbat Alert

Massive Moonbat migration predicted to hit San Diego, CA and Fayetteville, NC on march 19th, PW in route to intercept SD group, reinforcements welcome:

Patriots' Picnic

FOR THE FIRST TIME in many months, we’ve learned of planned protests targeting military bases right here in San Diego. Our town will be the focus of a "regional mobilization" of the radical left.

I can't wait.

The World Says End the War! Bring the Troops Home Now! Rebuild our Communities! MARCH 19 - REGIONAL MOBILIZATION IN SAN DIEGO, CA Camp Pendleton Marine base, one of the largest bases in the country, has suffered a tragic number of causalities in the ongoing war and occupation of Iraq. CODEPINK will honor the devastating loss of these troops with a peaceful 30 mile, two day procession. Join us on March 18th and 19th as we walk from Oceanside, home of Camp Pendleton, to the massive rally at Balboa Park where we will unite with the San Diego Coalition for Peace and Justice to mark the second anniversary of the war in Iraq.
The other major mobilization, just in case you were curious, will be in Fayetteville, North Carolina -- the home of Fort Bragg, and the world-renowned 82nd Airborne Division.

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?

First of all, we encourage you to join us in our ongoing Operation THANK YOU. This is a wonderful, positive, non-confrontational event, where we stand outside the gates of various military bases holding signs that simply read "THANK YOU."

We started with Miramar MCAS, but we'll be moving on in the coming weeks to the other bases in the area. To help negate the negative vibes from the CodePINK rally, we'll be outside the main gate of Camp Pendleton in Oceanside on March 17 (St. Patrick's Day) during the morning and evening rush hours. Check back here for more details.

In the meantime, if you can't make one of our regularly scheduled events, start one of your own. It's very easy -- all you need is a piece of cardboard, some permanent markers, and a few hours of your time.

Please let us know when you'll be out there, so we can get the word out to others who might want to participate!

FOR MORE INFORMATION, or to join forces with us, please send an email to: sdpw.org@gmail.com

He says "To cut to the chase on that..."

It's no wonder they reported it wrong because he does NOT cut to the chase in any way, shape or form after that.

He then goes on to explain why it doesn't matter if he's Indian or not.

He gives a bunch of B.S. after this indicating that his lineage has been proven.

Going to go back to listen again because he named the guy who supposedly vetted him as a Native American.

This should be checked out.

Aaaargh! His stepfather's last name was Debo. He was known as Ward Debo for a time in Elmwood Illinois. There is a famous Oklahoma Indian historian named Angie Debo. She was not Indian. She taught for awhile at a college in Chicago.

This clown thinks he is her or somethin'.

This guy is a living testament to how ridiculous Affirmative Action could get. I could get a DNA test and prove that I am Indian-but I'm afraid to find out that I really am the genetically engineered offsping of Alan Keyes and Pol Pot (this is a joke) Actually I could find out that I'm related to Ward! Cr*ps!

While we're doing DNA testing to prove who gets ahead of whom why don't we find out who not to hire because they are prone to diseases that we don't want to insure...$#%@%#@%

Hey dimwhitties-whatcha think of that?

I do some writing on a mental disorder called clinical narcissism -- often described as "toxic self-love".

This guy exhibits obvious signs of this condition -- self-importance, impostures, contempt for everyone else, and lies, lies, lies.

He's a true sicko.

108 jake  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 8:22:47pm

Ok, listening with my $450 headphones (Sennheiser HD 650's) and using GoldWave to slow the clip down to 40% speed, he is clearly saying "on that". I wish it were otherwise, really I do, but we are "reality oriented" here, so that's the reality..

BTW, I recently read about an interesting illusion called the McGurk effect which may be relevant for those who have the video of this guy in addition to the audio. The McGurk effect shows that our brains actually do some sort of lip-reading to distinguish between similar sounds (like b's and p's) at a subconscious level that we're not aware of. Watch the video and it sounds like he's saying "DA DA", but listen with your eyes closed and he's clearly saying "BA BA". The recording is "BA BA", but it is spliced with video of the guy saying "GA GA", and our brains are fooled, even if we know the trick! Check it out, it's pretty cool.

109 rightasrain  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 8:23:21pm

Churchill says at the end "if you let this one go down, you've lost it all" (about the moves made against him.)

I guess he plans on taking the ship down with him.

Yeah, I'd say he has clinical narcissism.

110 Beagle  Thu, Feb 24, 2005 8:23:27pm

Will someone explain to me how all this obsesssion over race and ethnicity, especially in academia, is going to make this a better nation? Maybe I missed the memo. As far back as Teddy Roosevelt, and long before, Americans have been advocating an emphasis on American identity, not superficial physical characteristics.

Living in a fully-integrated neighborhood, as I do, I find it hard to believe I'm a racist. As recently as the 1950's, many white people would run away or refuse to sell their house to a minority. Those were the bad old days. Now it's down to rare isolated cases, even according to the Florida prosecuter in charge of filing indictments, but screaming racism seems to always increase.

Finally!

Oh, this is rich! He has one rating, and one response to the rating.

First, the actual rating comment:

Ward is brilliant. He's an expert in his field. You will learn so much about Native American issues. If this class doesn't change the way you see the world, you weren't paying attention. Go to class, pay attention, and you'll get an A.

Now, the comment on the first rating comment:

This guy is the scum of the earth. I don't even go to the university of Colorado...but if this sun of a bitch went to my school, he would get kicked in this ugly face...you students of colorado need to stop being pussies and blow up this guys house or something.

Don't know why the second commenter doesn't go to CU.. He seems well-equipped in rhetoric and persuasion.

Jw,
ratemyteacher.com and ratemyprofessor.com have some serious problems on the rating system

For one.. you can cast multiple votes by using different computers

two.. teachers and professors have been caught loading bad votes to change the ratings of their peers. In some cases, the individual managed to cast multiple votes for themselves. Yes this is a true story.

three.. students were interviewed who admitted that they sabotaged some professors/teachers after taking a difficult class and recieving an unsatisfactory grade

I've seen horrible instructors rated well because they were easy A's in contrast to difficult, but excellent teachers being rated as mediocre. I've seen the worst teacher on record be rated with a perfect score while an instructor with the highest academic record (producing students who acheved very high SATs and AP rankings) recieve some bad ratings from his students who flunked the course. He explained that their failure to complete course work resulted in bad grades. Rocket science huh?

The California group that set up the site didn't attempt to provide any controls over those factors. As a result, most people consider their site a joke

Absolutely right.

Something else I noticed in the audio of his speech was his lack of remorse for calling almost 3000 murder victims "little Eichmanns."

He had denied it at first when the story was just heating up some weeks ago (claiming that his words had been turned into the opposite of what he'd actually written.)

Now he isn't denying it anymore, but he has zero remorse for it.

Instead, he's nasty and sarcastic about it.

You're quite welcome.

I've been following the Chutch Saga with a lot of interest, since I spent seven years working in a university think-tank, and dealth with quite a few profs just as intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt as him. The blogosphere (aided, of course, by Google and the mighty SearchSystems Public Records Database) are finally making these sorts of tenured nihilists accountable to the public, for which I am grateful.

By the way, when the story first broke, I posted the link to the poorly-formatted Bob Black proto-fisking of Churchill to several sites, this one included. I remember reading it when it first appeared on the Internet, and being astonished that ol' Mental Ward had gotten away with so much blatant fakery even to that point. Black is a grade-A dirtbag in his own right, but he's highly skilled at taking down pretentious, phony left-fringe-types, of which Chutch is a textbook case.

According to CBS4 Denver, Ward Churchill is also an art forger:

Churchill Art Piece Called Into Question

by CBS4 News reporter Raj Chohan

Feb 24, 2005 8:03 pm US/Mountain

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) Boulder County resident Duke Prentup has been a fan of native American art for as long as he can remember. That love of art took him to the home of Ward Churchill in the early 1980's, where Prentup bought several pieces of Churchill's art, including a serigraph titled "Winter Attack."

"I have enjoyed them ever since immensely, they're obviously up inside my house," Prentup said.

Last month came a stunning revelation, though, as Prentup flipped through a 1972 book called The Mystic Warriors of the Plains written and illustrated by the late artist Thomas E. Mails. He found a sketch that was strikingly similar to the Churchill piece.

"I opened it up, and Wham, there it was," he said. "It's the exact same thing, only mirror imaged virtually to every detail."

Intellectual property attorney James Hubbell compared the two works side by side, concluding it was likely no accident.

"It's very obvious that the Churchill piece was taken directly from the Mails' piece, there's just too many similarities between the two for it to have been coincidence."

When CBS 4 contacted Churchill Wednesday afternoon near his office on the campus of CU Boulder, the embattled ethnic studies professor initially refused to answer questions.

In response to continued questioning, Churchill became aggressive, pushing a handful of paperwork in front the TV camera, and soon after, swiping his arm at the crew...

It's really quite astounding, the painting is exactly mirror imaged and reversed. The guy's a thief -- goes with being a narcissist -- the university now has grounds to get rid of him.

Well, I think those little facts you can dig up from Google searches are rather handy.

Like this one where

Gorman, Dean of Library Services, California State University, Fresno, likened our current situation to the red scare of the 1950's, with the government trying to control information. He called the removal of information already made public "Kafka-esque" and recalled what used to be said of the Soviet Union: "The future is certain, it is the past that keeps changing."

link

I admit that I was unable to listen to all of the audio. The spontaneous Gilligan's Island laugh track and potty humor finally got to me.

Tenure exists to promote the free exchange of ideas. In Churchill's case, the end result of tenure is arrogance, vividly on display in Hawaii. He knows how to game the university system and uses tenure not to promote the exchange of ideas, but to carry on a one-sided dialogue. There is no give and take. Ideas that can't be defended shouldn't be protected by tenure. The problem is not tenure itself, but Churchill's abuse of the privilege. While I'd like to see tenure reform, I think it better to reform the present state of universities in America than tenure itself. God bless those who are currently engaged in this work.

I listened to his drivel long enough to recognize the type. Go read some of the longer comments over at DU or DailyKos. Does anyone else see/hear the similarities. Like many of the written thoughts that appear in those screeds, Ward often sounds incoherent and not too bright. Which brings me to a question for the administrators at Colorado U; What were you guys thinking? If this is the kind of critical thinking you are trying to engender in your students I fear for their future. After all, there are a limited number of positions for village idiot and Ward has taken one of those already.

That link and story is explosive. His explanation is so lame. I looked at those two pieces and he simply traced it or photocopied it in reverse and then palmed it off as his own. Of course, now that he's been caught he's going on about having declared originally it was based on the Thomas Mails piece. What a con artist! Note too his usual M.O. is in place; he first gets belligerant and abusive when accused with the truth and after he's had time to think about the implications, comes back out and says, oh yeah, it is mine but... Moron!

"...When CBS 4 contacted Churchill Wednesday afternoon near his office on the campus of CU Boulder, the embattled ethnic studies professor initially refused to answer questions.

"In response to continued questioning, Churchill became aggressive, pushing a handful of paperwork in front the TV camera, and soon after, swiping his arm at the crew.

"A short time later, Churchill emerged from his office and agreed to comment on his artwork.

"He acknowledged his serigraph was based on the Mails drawing, and insists he disclosed that fact during the initial release of the prints.

""It's an original work by me, after Thomas Mails ... the fact that the purchaser was ignorant of the reality of what was perfectly publicly stated at the time the edition was printed is not my responsibility," Churchill said.

"Churchill's serigraph gives no credit to Mails on the work itself. The professor also refused to provide documentation to support his claims. Even if such documentation does exist, it may not matter as far as copyright law is concerned.

""In my opnion, unless there was consent for Churchill to do his piece, then there is copyright infringement here," Hubbell said.

"When contacted at his home in North Carolina, Ryan Mails, the son of the late Thomas Mails said the family still retained the copyrights to the drawings of the Mystic Warriors book, and that his father fiercely defended the copyrights. "I cannot imagine he would ever grant permission to anyone to copy one of his pieces," he said.

"Back in Prentup's Boulder County home, the Churchill serigraph still hangs. One quarter Native American himself, says he loves the image, he's just not sure whose artwork it really is..."

Plagairism! The one sin no academic institution can afford to have on campus. If this doesn't do it for him there's no justice.

Wrong. The problem is the fact that CU ever hired this idiot in the first place, much less granted him tenure or a chairmanship with virtually no academic qualifications. My sense is that the people in charge try and hide their own intellectual inadequacies by hiring even more frivolous characters.

IMHO the quality of academic research that is being produced at universities, as well as the general level of intellectual discourse is dropping lower by the day.

In the course of my work, I interact with a fair number of academics. But then again, these are academics who also work in private industry, and in the sciences at that, so the standards are several orders of magnitude greater. I have no real feel, other than news items, of how things are done on the "touchy-feely" side of the campus. Frankly, I'd just as soon keep it that way.

And speaking of academics, if anybody on the early morning thread knows of a budding conservative writer (college graduate or upper classman) or is, in fact, such a person themselves, here's a golden opportunity for you/them to get some additional training for free. The Publius Fellowship Program at The Claremont Institute. Sure would look good on your record. But you have to get after it, as applications are due in mid-March. In fact, Charles, if you have your e-ears on, this would make a wonderful public service post, and there just might be a younger LGFer or two that could snag one of these prized spots.

I listened and relistened; he said, "on that" not "I'm not"
also:"to cut to the chase on that" - then changes subject and starts talking about Senator Hemming(?)Churchill accuses this senator of being "greedy", "Greed is good" and characterizes him twice in unflattering language.
can you say, SMOKESCREEN?
"but here now we come to the cut scene" - finally Church is gonna address the issue,
NOT - now he assassinates the character of the reporter (another white guy - {shudder})
at 3:52 into the recording Church names a member of the band who vetted him - if you listen you can hear his voice waver - I submit that this is physical proof that he is lying.
at 3:56 Church says, and I may have mis-heard this, "(reach?) a quarter blood, never said I did" "so I'm not a full member"
later he addresses his membership in the Katooah (sp?) band of Cherokee as an associate member.
whatever!
I believe this guy is a fraud, but the recording doesn't substantiate any claims concerning Church's admission of Not being an Indian.
The asshat clearly states that he is 1/4 indian - that means one of his grandparents was a full blooded Injun. Am I right on this? That claim should be easy enough to substantiate; 1 of the 4 grands had to be a pure blooded Injun,
or he's caught in another lie!

No, but seriously, it's worse than that. Those folks not only need existing "victim" groupings, but, since that approach is obviously losing it's impact as things improve, they have to create NEW "victim" groups in order to simply stay in place. And, when you consider it, it's really not all that bad an idea. I'm thing of starting one myself. Haven't got a catchy name yet, but think of America's shabby treatment of the Celts, and all the horror and death than went before even America. I figure I can plagurize up a book or two, get an M.A. by doing a couple of those cartoon sketches inside that matchbook cover, and take over Sitting Bullshit's job as Chair of Ethnic Studies at CU. Ann Coulter can write a couple of snarky columns about me, I'll get the 90 grand plus some lecture fees, which will more than cover the cost for the odd dime bag so I can be properly incoherent when I speak for extra bucks on the victim's lecture circuit, and life will be good ! I anticipate segments on '60 Minutes', lunches with George Soros, and, considering that over 40 million Americans are of Irish descent (not even counting other Celtic ancestry), I can look forward with confidence to the happy day when Howard Dean willingly kisses my ass at high noon on Times Square.

I don't go to church. So the Muslims can go to mosque and stick their asses in the air all they want. They try to take away any of my rights and freedoms and turn my country into a third world craphole where life is cheap, rape is legal, and our beautiful women are covered in burkas, they are in for a world of shit.

And what so, so funny is that the Left prides themselves on not being racist, but they are the ones that make a big deal of race.

This isn't by accident. The left classifies society into groups and sub-sects, individuals have no role in their utopia, and then play those sub-sects off against each other. A leftist parodigmatic view of the world it is a constant battle within a group, be it race, economical status, sex, religion, ideology, etc... and they try to indoctrunate this world view on all.

Race is a big issue brought up daily in the US and is used quite well by the dems and their allies. It keeps people off balance and they use the whole race game as quite an effective weapon against their opponents or to keep their own in line. The left are the last people who want to see harmonization or understanding between races [or any other group]. Watch how derisive they get when one of their chosen sub-sects they are supposedly defending doesn't toe the party line.

I wish I could see a globular lightning! Probably at first it would scare the hell out of me too, but it's worth it. Some scientists argued that it may be a ball of low-density and reactive silicon ribbons produced when a lighting strikes certain types of soil. But no-one managed to artificially produce a globular lightning as yet.

Here's another little discrepancy in the resume. Part time summers maybe?

Seems a bit odd that the SD highway patrol would hire an Illinois resident even for part time summer work.

How was it he was working for the South Dakota Highway Patrol during the same time he was attending college in Illinois?

He also appears to have worked for the South Dakota Highway Patrol (1973-1976).

Merchants of Despair -- VDH

It is wise to cite and publicize our errors — and there have been many in this war. Humility and circumspection are military assets as well. And we should not deprecate the danger of our enemies, who are cruel and ingenious. Moreover, we should never confuse the sharp dissent of the well-meaning critic with disloyalty to the cause.

But nor should we fall into pessimism, when in less than four years we have destroyed the two worst regimes in the Middle East, scattered al Qaeda, avoided another promised 9/11 at home, and sent shock waves of democracy throughout the Arab world — so far at an aggregate cost of less than what was incurred on the first day of this unprovoked war. Car bombs are bad news, but in the shadows is the real story: The terrorists are losing, and radical reform, the likes of which millions have never seen, is right on the horizon. So this American gloominess is not new. Yet, if the past is any guide, our present lack of optimism in this struggle presages its ultimate success.

A final prediction: By the end of this year, formerly critical liberal pundits, backsliding conservative columnists, once-fiery politicians, Arab "moderates," ex-statesmen and generals emeriti, smug stand-up comedians, recently strident Euros — perhaps even Hillary herself — will quietly come to a consensus that what we are witnessing from Afghanistan and the West Bank to Iraq and beyond, with its growing tremors in Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, and the Gulf, is a moral awakening, a radical break with an ugly past that threatens a corrupt, entrenched, and autocratic elite and is just the sort of thing that they were sort of for, sort of all along — sort of...

I was struck by two things.

1. The audience applauds him a lot.

2. He never says that he is a Native American.

The second fact is important because it would be so easy to do. If he has a drop of Native American blood, all he would have to do is say "my great-grand father, Old Joe Running Elk . . ." or "my great-great-grand mother, Hippiemommateepee . . . " but he does not. Instead he rants on and on about memberships and offices and office-holders of obscure Native American organizations vetting his applications, etc.

Ward Churchill is full of shit and this audience is full of morons.

I had the rare privilege of seeing ball lightning once. I had heard of it so I knew what it was. It was during a rainstorm and I was driving. It (a single glowing ball) popped out of a streambed where the stream ran under the road. It hovered, then moved down along the concrete rail of the culvert then it flew right at my truck and, without making contact shot over the hood and windshield and vanished. It does move like it is alive.

As for alien abduction, it is really similar to people in the middle ages who felt they were visited at night by elves and succubi and other wierd creatures. The science says that it is a mental predisposition in humans to confuse dreams with reality.
As for messages, yes they do all seem quite contemporaneous with the soppy drivel of the day.

From that article Sarah D. linked to.

So the age of criminal responsibility in Iran is 9 for girls and 16 for boys. So if a 15 year old boy raped a 10 year old girl it's her fault as the 'adult' in the situation, she should have been in control?

I have 0 education and experience in the weather. That will change if I win the Lotto.

I once fell into the little creek or ditch or whatever you call them in a cranberry bog in Harwichport, MA, and encountered a small minnow size fish that stung me, I believe with a stinger on its dorsal fin.

Not excruciatingly painful, but it did hurt.

The ditches or creeks or canals or whatever also had catfish that appeared to be very lethargic.

My grandmother, daughter of a Congregationalist Yankee and an Irish servant girl named Delia Quigley, who came from Galway, and died of cancer about a year after my grandmother was born, feel into a bog once in Marshfield, MA and was rescued by a "Portugi". Now, there is a population of Portuguese, many who work as fishermen, around New Bedford, but my mother suspects that term may have been used around Marshfield to refer to blacks.

My grandmother's 2 older brothers, Gus and George Lane, both lived into their nineties before dying, and it was looking good for a while that we'd get to celebrate Grandma's 100th, but at age 98 she broke her hip unloading the dishwasher, and appeared to be recovering well from that, when she suffered a series of strokes and eventually passed.

The day I flew back to Marshfield for the funeral, Hurricane Claudette was approaching the coast, and the winds were breezy, and the rain had started when the little American Eagle puddle jumper left for DFW, and I got to imagine myself flying a USAFR 53rd WRS WC-130J Super Hercules or NOAA WP-3 hurricane hunter, and it was cool about halfway from Dallas when we broke out into completely clear sky, and I could look back at the hurricane.

Right before Grandma died, when she was in the hospice/nursing home, I took my kids to visit, and although Grandma wasn't all the way there, she did seem to enjoy my then one year old daughter climbing in her bed and up onto her face.

Agree. All the press about Churchill is obscuring the basic problem of why/how he was able to land a very cushy job at a big university. I know the blogs are talking about it, but the liberal press is very good at getting the debate redirected to other things and it's happening now, and the discussions are slipping.
Why do parents send their kids to college? What kind of value does a degree that represents four years of being trapped in classes that people like Churchill teach? What can anyone possibly be qualified for after that education? What's the underlying purpose of the university if students are forced to take distribution credits that consist of the kind of lectures Churchill produces?
Churchill wouldn't been hired by a lot of people, who would have sized him up in ten seconds flat, but he pushed everyone's buttons at the university which speaks volumes about the administration there, what they like, what they want and what they want to stuff down the throats of their students.
Can't help but wonder if Churchill has a posse of fetching groupies, dazzled by his "exotic" roots. Great pickup shtick, isn't it?

What do you think?
Speilberg made the second Jurassic Park, which to me seemed (apart from a thousand other faults - cringingly bad) to be a rather nasty run of film that seemed to revel in slaughtering as many people as possible (mostly corporate types). It is a trend that other directors have picked up - think Independence Day (a film that computer picked every line of dialogue out of some other film and took great glee in frying lots of people) That he made A.I. which pits a real boy against a robot boy (in terms of intrinsic value) was disturbing. The premise was so strained, and went against human nature (the value and specialness of human life) so profoundly it's a wonder he didn't see it ...or makes one wonder why he was straining so hard to push his concept.
Thus,I don't have confidence that he would make a good War of the Worlds. Too easy to start slaughtering people in various
CG modes. What is compelling in a story is heroism - people doing the right thing in difficult circumstances; and haven't seen Speiberg celebrate that in a while.

...there is no way to exceed (or even match) the speed of light

Actually, I believe some serious people are begining to raise possibilities that that speed of light limit may not be quite the absolute we have assumed. There is also some pretty serious work on the fact that it ( the speed of light, that is) is not, in fact, a constant, and has changed by orders of magnitude over time. I cannot remeber the guy who proposed that recently and I cannot describe the aparently 'insolvable' problem that leap of thought resolved. As I said earlier, not near my normal resources, so I can't quote from or link to anything, but things are definitely getting weird out there on the edge of science. None of this, of course, means that we'll soon, or indeed ever, be zipping about the universe as in Star Treck, but the issue doesn't seem to be as settled as Einstein thought.

Superluminal travel is hypothetical at best. If such a thing exists I doubt the builders would have any interest in visiting hairless mosque monkeys (one example of how they might interpret us).

I don't rule out the existence of alien civilizations per se, but we have spent 50 years surveying stars and heard nothing but static. Our own signals have barely passed 50 light years, meaning we are undetectable by anything or anyone out there who might be listening.

BTW the first radio signal strong enough to propagate into interstellar space was a 1927 commercial, the words: " He has hemorhoids..." are our calling card to the stars. The first TV signal was Hitler opening the Munich Olympics (as Carl Sagan pointed out in his book Contact).

In case you can't tell I love this subject but I am firmly a skeptic.

Well, what I do know is that with the Rove III we have brought in the newest model of Lizards ( the so called "new posters").
We are testing them and they seem to perform pretty well.

The older model (the so called "regulars", before the Battle at the Gates of Rather) had asked to go home to have some rest.
Some of them couldn't even remember the taste of our crunchy-and-juicy giant spiders !

Some have been shipped through time in the "DiscardedLies I", but we contact with them but we don't know if and when they will come back.

The plan L, with the take over of the MSM and Universities, should start in the immediate future (some Lizards say it already started).
I don't have security clearance for the plans G and F.

OT: But I really like what this story illustrates about the power of understatement.

Col. Tracy Scott has nothing but high praise for the falcon program. He certainly could have benefited from it on a harrowing day in August 1994 when his C-141 transport plane flew through a flock of geese while taking off from McGuire.

"I looked up, and all I could see was birds and feathers and white," he said. "It sounded like a jackhammer." The plane had lost one of its four engines.

"Our No. 2 engine, having ingested one or probably several geese, had sparks coming from the fan blades," Colonel Scott recalled. "The engine was at a dead stop because there was nothing left to turn on the inside. And one goose essentially severed the hydraulic pump."

Then Colonel Scott noticed that the emergency brake system was malfunctioning. "I was not really happy about the condition of the plane," he said. - Link

See, when you have a good point to make, you don't have to get all shrill about it.

Not a problem. We use miniature black holes, of course. That's simple. It's this pesky speed of light thing that has us tied up at the moments. And we don't quite have a handle on that phaser yet, either. But what the hell - we've still got a supply of good old-fashioned Colt revolvers and pump shotguns.

No, actually, how to overcome that gravity biz is very old hat indeed. You just spin things and let the wonders of centripital force work for you. Ever notice that the big Earth Force ships portrayed in 'Babylon 5' had spinning sections, because humans were so primitive ?

The chilling proposition of HG Wells' novel War of the Worlds was that the Martians were about as interested in Humans as we were in ants. They wanted our world and at best regarded us as a tasty game animal. Overall they treated us like ants, deploying "black smoke" to poison us and the "heat ray" to incinerate us. In the end humanity is utterly defeated by the Martian war machines. Our salvation comes directly from God, as Wells explains, who put micro-scopic organisms on Earth that eventually destroy the invaders.

Imagine an ecoli outbreak from undercooked humans. A sign that says; " MARTIANS MUST WASH HANDS" might have saved 'em.

Allah requested the angel Gabriel drag his wings across the 'flat' surface of the moon three times to lessen it's illuminance. If you look closely at the moon you can still see the texture caused by Gabriel's feathers. This is proof positive that Mohammed is allah's sole messenger.

A seat on Richard Branson's future space plane, so I can claim drunkeness in low Earth orbit. Of course, the Russians would allow me the chance to get drunk in semi-stable Earth orbit, and of course, being Russians, I wouldn't have to get drunk alone, but I have to ask myself if I really trust what is still essentially Soviet space technology?

If I won the PowerBall, I could probably do both, (met degree and drunk in Earth orbit), and maybe have enough monet left over to buy a controlling stake in WSI or AccuWeather so I would be guaranteed a job.

A Flock of Seagulls are Jewish

# 111) 12.11.75 (13.10 EST) McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30CF

N1032F (46826/109) Overseas National Airways - ONA
[year built: 1973]
occupants: 10 crew + 129 passengers = 139.

fatalities: 0 crew + 0 passengers = 0.

location: New York-John F. Kennedy IAP, NY (USA)

nature: Ferry phase: Take-off

flight New York-John F. Kennedy IAP, NY - Frankfurt-Rhein Main APT Flightnr.: 032

total airframe flying hours: 8193; cycles
ONA Flight 032 left the gate at 12.56 EST for a ferry flight to Jeddah via Frankfurt. The passengers were all ONA employees. The aircraft taxied to Runway 13R and commenced take-off at 13.10h. Shortly after accelerating through 100kts, but before reaching the V1 speed, a flock of seagulls were seen to rise from the runway. The aircraft struck many birds and the take- off was rejected. Bird strikes had damaged the No.3 engine's fanblades, causing rotor imbalance. Fan-boster stage blades began rubbing on the epoxy microballoon shroud material; pulverized material then entered into the engine's HPC area, ignited and caused the compressor case to separate. A fire erupted in the right wing and no.3 engine pylon. The aircraft couldn't be stopped on the runway. The pilot-in-command steered the aircraft off the runway onto taxiway Z at a 40kts speed. The main undercarriage collapsed and the aircraft came to rest against the shoulder of the taxiway. The successful evacuation may be partially attributed to the fact that nearly all passengers were trained crew members. PROBABLE CAUSE: "The disintegration and subsequent fire in the No.3 engine when it ingested a large number of seagulls. Following the disintegration of the engine, the aircraft failed to decelarate effectively because: 1) The No.3 hydraulic system was inoperative, which caused the loss of the no.2 brake system and braking torque to be reduced 50 percent; 2) the no.3 engine thrust reversers were inioperative; 3) at least three tyres disintegrated; 4) the no.3 system spoiler panels on each wing could not deploy; and 5) the runway surface was wet.The following factors contributed to the accident: 1) The bird-control program at John F. Kennedy airport did not effectively control the bird hazard on the airport; and 2) the FAA and the General Electric Company failed to consider the effects of rotor imbalance on the abradable epoxy shroud material when the engine was tested for certification." 360 Ward Cleaver  Fri, Feb 25, 2005 5:40:05am

OT - Last night I went to see the first in a series of exhibitions on Dallas architects at the Meadows Museum of Art on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

One of the primary reasons for going was that they were going to screen the 1939 film The City, the Ralph Steiner/Lewis Mumford documentary proposing a utopian "new city". I've wanted to see this film for awhile, because I'm fascinated by the utopians of the '30s, the 1939 New York World's Fair (for which the film was made). Plus, I'm an Aaron Copland fan (he scored the film).

There were six people in the theater for the showing, including the projectionist, and the assistant professor who introduced the film.

After the film, the prof led a discussion on the film. Pretty soon it was a discussion on propaganda, and right away I could see this guy was a moonbat and self-hating Texan.

One of the claims he made, which I've never heard, was that the U.S. bused in people from as far away as 500 miles to pull down Saddam's statue in Baghdad; basically, he claimed the event was staged (although he was sure there were at least 12 people in Iraq who wanted to pull down the statue).

I thought to myself, "Where the hell did you read that? On DU or Daily Kos?"

He was helped along by a batty old lady (wearing what looked like a fur coat made from dead cats, a brown die job, and a scarf) who sat in the audience, rambling on about "the neocons running the White House".

He also slobbered on about how great the EUrabians and the EU are, with their welfare state and free everything.

Another woman in the audience talked about how she missed living in Fraudi Arabia, and how she was able to freely practice her religion. When I pressed her on it, she had to admit it was only in peoples' homes, not publically, and only within the safety of their corporate compound.

Freakin' moonbats. Oh brother.

Since this thread has for all practical purposes gone into the twilight zone (which considering the subject is totally appropriate), I was wondering if any of y'all were listening to NPR (spit) last week (or maybe this week, I am SO sleep deprived) on nuclear weapons and the state of our nuclear arsenal?

One of the people discussing our arsenal was arguing for testing, saying something to the effect of "Suppose you had a car in the garage that you did not start. Every year, you replaced parts that you thought might be deteriorating. You have been doing that for 60 years, and now you need to drive it. How certain are you that the engine is going to start when you turn the key in the ignition?"

Yes, which is why having Speiberg on it rather turns the stomach, or any other typical Hollywood director right now for that matter. I bring this up because I think there is a trend, especially in liberal circles to hate...people. There's an underlying nastiness to so much film these days.
Looping back to this thread, isn't it the same sort of nastiness that Churchill spouts by blithely claiming the victims of the WT attack deserved it?
Regarding what you said about HG Wells, I'm just not sure Speilberg, who seems very confused and cynical about the nature of God, will manage to preserve the spirit of the book. I could be wrong...

The SD Highway Patrol gig is not directly from a Ward Churchill-written document; it's from an AIM document, so it may be incorrect or even consciously false. As I say in the Introduction (now moved to the bottom of the page and retitled "About PirateBallerina"), nothing on the page or at the various links listed shoulde be considered the truth unless verified...

BTW There's a 1991 Churchill resume that's been mentioned in a few different articles that has proven very elusive, and I suspect if we could find it, it might reveal actual factual "anomalies." That resume supposedly has Churchill claiming that he had Paratrooper training, and did Recon while in the Army.

Churchills art fraud is so obvious that holders to the rights to the original works or photos shoud have a slam dunk. Representing something to be true when it is not and the fact that it is not true is known to the person making the representation is fraud. "Professor" Churchill has made a career of fraud and if this is not obvious to the administration of CU, then the administration is suborning fraud. Universities are loath to recognize that their faculties are infiltrated by Churchills and sometimes these persons come to control significant academic units within the institution. The encounter is invariably sexual and the phenomena always has its origins in the individual's childhood. A couple of major red flags right there. My gut feeling is that in the vast majority of these "encounters" are some form of repressed memory from a childhood trauma. In other cases I think these people are manic depressive or mentally ill. Whitley Streiber in particular comes off as someone who is clinically depressed.

Now that the Army should probably rotate out and get some welll deserved "time off" let's pre-emptively screw the Air Force and cut them down to size just like we did when Clinton the First was in power. Wow! Idiots! Let's make sure to put the Air Force through the meat grinder real good. About the only upside would be on the off chance Hillary gets elected in '08 and then you have taken some of the more dangerous toys off the table that she might want to play with-or let the French up close to so they can sell it to the Chinese.

Did someone say SDI and Canada? Hit McKenna of New Brunswick now ambassador to US from Canada in the potatos. McCain's frozen food one of the largest industries in NB is trying to corner the market on MacDonald's french fries. Even bought out a Heinz subsidy in South Africa.

All you have to do is not load up on carbs and stop eating potats...seriously. And don't visit NB they have mosquitos and black flies the size of B-52s.

Oh and Canada you don't get in anymore you can sit outside and whine with the real French guys about how we don't trust you with the good stuff.

When my dad told his Irish mother that his fiancee was Portuguese, her response was, "She's black?".

A lot of merchant mariners at the time where Cape Verdeans, who are originally from African but speak Portuguese. They also often intermarried with Wampanoag Indians from Cape Cod.

Hence the black/Portugee association...

Hunter Thompson Went like a "warrior"

I woke up to that headline in the Rocky Mountain News (Yesterday, front page news.)
I have yet to see such a link about the Soldiers in our Military going like Warriors. But a man who takes his own life in order to avoid human pain and suffering is referred to as a warrior.
Yes, how couragous. Can Someone tell me why I'm even shocked at the media anymore?

OH, and by the way,...On the front page, that article was actually CALLED "He Went like a warrior." THey renamed it online...

Actually, I would argue that he EQUATED himself to a manure pile. However, I think he mis-represented the flies buzzing about the manure pile. Those flies more appropriately symbolize the moonbats applauding him.

If you want to see really spectacular lightening storms along with ball lightening, go to Wyoming, land of the big sky.

Sorry for the delay.

To avoid confusion I should have clarified my statement in that it was only meant to apply to the "humanities".

Btw, interesting link to that fellowship. Undoubtedly, the level of academic discourse that emanates from Claremont is quite a bit more sophisticated than what universities spew out these days.

Just to add to what I mentioned earlier, universities don't seem to be in the business of actually teaching kids to think any longer. It's all been distileld down to getting lots of money for issuing degrees.

#394 MF,

Yeah it is pretty funny that they are more worked up with pride over a 67 year old suicide victim than they get over the FDNY 9/11 sacrifices or Soldier's giviung the ultimate gift...

cognitive dissonance.

The Daily Blogster this morning is carrying another Churchill bombshell. Local news in Denver last night has a reporter trying to interview (while he ducks from WC taking a swing at him) WC about forging a painting and selling it as his own. [Link: www.thedailyblogster.com...] has the paintings side by side.
