-RetweetTed Rall Yaps for Attention

Fri, Feb 25, 2005 at 4:36:04 pm PST

A devastating response to another cry for attention from the execrable Ted Rall, by John Hawkins.

In his latest blog post Rall attacks Little Green Footballs specifically, by pulling a few out-of-context quotes from our visitor comments and falsely attributing them to me. (Gee. I’ve never seen that tactic used before.) One of his quotes about being “targeted for termination” refers to Rall’s job as a Washington Post cartoonist being terminated; it’s obvious since the thread is about exactly that subject, so Rall is either deliberately misrepresenting or too full of bile to see straight.

Rall is increasingly irrelevant and he’s lashing out. That’s all. Perfectly understandable. I almost feel for the guy.

DiscoverTheNetwork.org February 24, 2005 wrote this yesterday:

We received an email from Ted Rall, the cartoonist who called our war against the Taliban a "genocide" and belongs to the Michael Moore-Ward Churchill school of supporters of the Zarqawi "resistance" in Iraq. Rall also made a name for himself by referring to fallen American war hero Pat Tillman as an "idiot." -- The Editors

Here is his email:
From: Tedrall@aol.com
To: david@cspc.org
Sent: Wednesday, February 23, 2005 7:44 PM
Subject: URGENT: Cease and Desist Notice

Dear Mr. Horowitz:

It has come to my attention that you have, without obtaining written or other permission, posted a publicity photograph of myself, apparently copied from my website, to your site Discover the Network ([Link: www.discoverthenetwork.org)...] This photograph is copyrighted material. Your act violates U.S. Copyright Law, which provides for damages up to $150,000 plus attorney's fees.
I therefore request that you take the following actions on or before 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Friday, February 25, 2005:
1. Remove said photograph from your website.
2. Agree to remit the sum of $5,000.00 as payment for your unauthorized use of said photograph, with such payment via money order to be received within three (3) business days at my address in New York, New York.
3. Sign a notarized stipulation agreeing not to post my copyrighted material in the future.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent matter.

Sincerely,
Ted Rall

We are flattered to receive Rall's "cease and desist" notice since he has made no such demand to "American Traitor" where the same photo is posted today. We'll just have to guess why Rall finds being posted in a database on the left more offensive than being called a traitor.
The offending profile of Rall can be read here.

From: Manuel Klausner
Here is our reply:

Date: February 24, 2005 2:06:57 AM PST
To: Tedrall@aol.com
Subject: Re: URGENT: Cease and Desist Notice

Dear Mr. Rall,

I represent David Horowitz, and am writing to respond to your email below. I am informed that the "publicity photograph" was not copied from your website, contrary to your surmise. It appears to be in the public domain. If you dispute this, please promptly furnish me with a copy of your copyright registration.

Even if the photo is copyrighted, its use in FrontPageMagazine.com appears to qualify as a fair use. The nature and purpose of the use is news reporting and commentary in an Internet publication for nonprofit educational purposes. The very nature of a "publicity photo" suggests that it is ordinarily intended to be used without obtaining permission in advance. Moreover, it does not appear that the effect of the use would be to decrease the value of the photo, which appears to have been widely circulated in many sources. Accordingly, we believe a court would find this use of the photo to be "fair" under Section 107 of the Copyright Law.

Based on the foregoing reasons, your three requests are hereby rejected. We would be willing to consider any further information you care to provide, including a copy of any copyright registration.

Yep, as usual, one of the Left's darlings decides it's time for another round of "Love Me, Daddy!" attention seeking. I gotta agree with most folks, there's not much point in bringing any attention to Rall, as he tends to thrive on it. The best move in this situation is simply to roll our collective eyes and ignore the obvious cries for our attention.

The lesbian was screaming, and the two Aryan Hitler Youth were screaming, and the grotesque talking dog jumped into the arms of the whimpering hippie boy. Holy sweet Jesus Christ, I thought, don't these people realize we're about be eaten alive by poorly-drawn Chevrolet? "Nevermind," I said. I was wondering about what you meant by that.

No, Fred Durst is the midget, ugly, borderline retarded, and unbeleivably lucky "musician" from limp bizkit (sp?) who recently had his cellphone-thing hacked and a homemade pr0no shown on the web. See details at fark.com

Anyway, the pr0no comment about Rall fit here because Rall, too, is stunted (at least intellectually), ugly, and a complete loser of a human being.

He just doesn't share Durst's proclivity for bedding incredibly beautiful women (only semi-pretty stinky hippy girls who have hairy armpits and lots of "scarves")

105 It's Miss Donna V. to you  Fri, Feb 25, 2005 3:30:53pm

Oh course, like Ted Rall, the Right Rev. Gordon of the Church of Holier-Than-Thou never says anything which might agner or offend. That's why we all love him so.

They're so consumed with their anger and their hate and their illogical arguments that I have to wonder if they get any real pleasure out of life at all.

Well, you'd think old Ted would be happy. After all, he comforted himself after the election with the notion that blue staters live in nicer houses, eat better food, and live more fulfilling and interesting lives than slobby red staters, who are all, in Ted's mind, living in trailer parks, working at Wal Mart, stuffing themselves on Big Macs and 7-11 hotdogs, and get all their thrills from watching "Desperate Housewives." (Excuse me, but what is the color of the state New Orleans is located in? I've heard you can get a pretty decent plate of chow down there.)

So Ted should be pleased with his vastly superior life, but instead he's always bitching and whining and griping and sneering. Unfortunately for him, no matter where he lives, he'll always be Ted Rall. That's a hell of a life sentence.

Someone please explain to me the leftie usage of "*" to refer to Pres. Bush in DU comments. I know it comes from the Doonesbury comic strip's strange depiction of Bush as a floating "*" where his head should be (see e.g. here), but where'd Gary Trudeau get it from? It's not funny and makes zero sense to me, like much of what passes for rhetoric on the left these days...

I saw this pathetic little turd on Hannity and Colmes just after he had submitted his caricature of Condi Rice looking like an Al Jolson blackface character. Believe me if a conservative cartoonist had drawn such a picture the cascade of vilification from the LLL's would have made Noah's flood look like a drizzle.

He comes across as a malcontent with a severe inferiority complex. He is so far on the left bank that he and Wart Churchill could share a boat. His truculent responses to Sean's questions made him look even more ridiculous, and even Allah Colmes had to disown him on the show. In short, (and he is very short) Ted Rall is a complete loser, and now that he is out of work, just needs some pub so he can continue his hate America and Israel tour. Perhaps Michael Moore can lend him the couch in the Manhatan pad?

The "Fear and Loathing"-parody snuck up on me, and sucker-punched my funny-bone...I need my MEDICINE! :)

As much as I loved the early work of Thompson, I loathed and felt sorry for his late, addle-pated raving. I guess it was to be expected, given what he was doing to himself for 50+ years. I've seen people succumb to alcohol/drug dementia in a year or so of serious mood-altering behavior.

Thanks for another classic!

Worst barbecue I ever ate was in North Carolina the week after I returned from three years in Israel. I at first refused to eat it when it was offered, then accepted it after much hazing from the host. I also gurggled down a generous portion of warm Wild Turkey that the host served as an appertif. I don't understand why he was upset when I hurled the whole mess all over his living room, you see: prior to accepting his burnt pigflesh, I had repeatedly told him that I hadn't eaten pork in three years, and it probably wouldn't sit well with me.

#70 CrimsonFisted Quoth Ted Rall:

"So our guy lost the election. Why shouldn't those of us on the coasts feel superior? We eat better, travel more, dress better, watch cooler movies, earn better salaries, meet more interesting people, listen to better music and know more about what's going on in the world. If you voted for Bush, we accept that we have to share the country with you. We're adjusting to the possibility that there may be more of you than there are of us. But don't demand our respect. You lost it on November 2.
Guess he can't accept sharing the country. "

This is what I have to say to Mr. Rall:

Teddy Boy: I betcha my husband and I make more money in one year than you can in five. Make that ten. We have educated or still in the process of educating five children in private schools and colleges. #3 son is at Northeastern in Boston right now. #5 is in a private Catholic school because he's autistic. #4 is getting ready to go to a private college in the fall. Could you pay their tuitions? How does $75,000 out of pocket sound to you?

Music? My husband is a symphony orchestra conductor in his spare time. What music is cool to you? Rap?

You know more about what's going on in the world and well traveled? I was born overseas (Thailand) and have travelled the world several times over, bucko. Where have you gone lately?

Interesting people? We know lots of them. Name your interesting group, and we'll name ours.

You eat better? Damn. Apparently, you've never been to my home. I was taught to cook by the best chefs in Bangkok.

You dress better. Bully for you. Have no clue what you mean by this, but maybe you need the "skins" to hide your pathetic self.

You're a child, Teddy. And unlike the other famous Teddy, perhaps one day you will actually grow up.

(Rant over)

Michelle Malkin pegs Rall perfectly! The "buck-naked bigotry" of a bottom-feeder.

I once wondered to myself: "Did somebody, somewhere, find this humorless, talentless a-hole remotely amusing?"

Malkin explains: Rall is not the far Left fringe. He gets away with this pen-and-ink-stained excrement because he reflects the closet thinking of mainstream media editors across the country and their mainstream liberal audiences. His work is reportedly carried in 140 newspapers. He and his ilk are everywhere. I grew up with his kind. I went to school with his kind. I work in the media with his kind. I have been getting contempt-filled, profanity-laced, "You-are-a-traitor-to-your-race/You banana/coconut/Aunt Tomasina/white wannabe" diatribes from his kind in my mailbox for the past 12 years.

Rall "reflects the closet thinking" of the MSM editors. He never had to be funny. He just had to know his masters' prejudices.

Funny how they turned him out, when he crossed the line from normal America-hating, to "American Hero Trashing." Tillman was just too noble, too selfless, for even the dimmest lefty MSM rag to justify Rall's vicious, heartless, cowardly attack on his character.

We live on six glorious acres in rural Ohio - about 40 minutes out of Cleveland. Rall would probably puke over that, but we have an in-ground pool and a large home and he likely does not. So, I wanted to spit in in his stupid face. Our county went totally Republican this past election. Even the Amish went to vote for Bush.

No, I don't have my own cookbook, but if you want recipes, I can do that. Anything particular you have in mind?

I wrote it off to the wind. The next day I thought "Maybe it's time Uncle Fist comes to stay for a while..."

Nothing since then..

Whether it's possible or not, I love the idea of saying "I know Iron Fist you assholes..."

And later that night was heard to have said: BRING ON THE GODDAMN CAT!"

BTW: Iron Fist & Aladin Sane... right after I left to eat, my wife noticed vehicle lights down on what we call "the bottom 80" so I had to go check (Mr. Callahan came with me, for all you Eastwood fans). Was just the son of an old gal who bought the 80 acres to the northeast of us. Told 'em to remember to close all the gates; somehow forgot to indtroduce them to Mr. Callahan. Completely concur. I thought it was stupid beyond comprehension to have Duke on to comment on Churchill, but at least if you're gonna do it, then give the guy a shot at saying something. All O'Rielly did was badger Duke about his past.

BTW: My editor at the first newspaper I worked for went to college with David Duke. He thought Duke was more of a political opportunist than a true Klanner. I don't know if that makes Duke less despicable, or more.

thanks, you've given meaning to this thread.

With all due respect ma'am, you are gorgeous!

297 Aladin Sane  Fri, Feb 25, 2005 6:03:30pm

Jw,

I agree. I don't support Duke, but I wanted to hear his side. O'Reilly stepped all over him. I don't support nazis, but I wanted to hear what he had to say.

It's funny, if it would have been a muslim saying "death to americans..." I wouldn't be interested..

Does that make me prejudiced?

298 GengisKahn  Fri, Feb 25, 2005 6:04:44pm

Chris, I think that atlasshrugged just brightened up the joint.

With regards to O'Reilly I think it is great that there are alternate voices in the MSM (is Fox MSM?, based on ratings I would say so, point of view probably not). For so long many of us on the right felt like a lone voice in the wilderness, afraid to speak up. I just get tired of him.

With talk radio, Fox and now the blogs it looks as though we have finally found our voice. Who knows where it will end?

#200 From the American Thinker column on Hunter Thompson

"He had to know he was the Liberace of Sixties-era American writing. No, that's too kind. Liberace squandered his talent, but he wasn't a fraud. Thompson was more like a talented, witty version of Ted Rall. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Thompson killed himself out of sheer disgust. Maybe by creating and living a ridiculous persona, he painted himself into a corner and kept painting and painting until there was no corner left; only paint."

A not-so-subtle hint there. Any chance Rall will take it?

In his latest blog post Rall attacks Little Green Footballs specifically, by pulling a few out-of-context quotes from our visitor comments and falsely attributing them to me. (Gee. I’ve never seen that tactic used before.)

Charles, you should recognize that tactic. You have used it before. I wrote you an email about it when you unfairly tarred a group of 35,000 people to which I belong, based on quotes from one poster on a bulletin board. Of course you never responded.

Pot? Meet kettle.

Got up this morning, read the thread, laughed my head off and came away with the juicy, satisfying knowledge that Ted Rall is now so irrelevant that even a thread about Ted Rall has barely a mention of the man as you scroll down.

331 TMF  Sat, Feb 26, 2005 7:25:15am

My problem with Rall isnt that he's a raving, mental defective left wing loon with no sense of history (guarantee he never took a college level history course, so all of his "knowledge" comes from hack sources like Zinn and CHomsky)...

My problem is that he isnt funny.

At all.

I take back the part about over-educated, 'cept at etchascetch academy

In 1984, Rall was expelled from Columbia Engineering for disciplinary and academic reasons. He gave up drawing cartoons during the mid-'80s, instead devoting himself to his work as a trader/trainee at Bear Stearns brokerage firm and a loan officer at the Industrial Bank of Japan. He moonlighted as a telemarketer and taxi driver.

What, exactly, are you suggesting Charles misrepresented?

This will blow your mind, as employees of Borders bookstores openly discuss hiding, damaging, returning, and otherwise making unavailable copies of Unfit For Command, and mock customers who ask to buy it.

What part of that is false/misleading?

336 Charles  Sun, Feb 27, 2005 6:31:25am

There's absolutely nothing misrepresented in that post. It's from a forum for Borders employees, and there were at least two posts talking about hiding books or making fun of purchasers. I quoted one. It's a little difficult to go back and check now, of course, because the entire thread has been deleted.

I didn't "tar a group of 35,000 people." I wrote "employees of Borders," which is completely accurate. I didn't write "all 35,000 people who post at the Borders Union forum."

A typical straw man argument from a logic-challenged Bush-hater.

I didn't "tar a group of 35,000 people." I wrote "employees of Borders," which is completely accurate. I didn't write "all 35,000 people who post at the Borders Union forum."

It's a public forum for a very small minority of Borders employees, and their union sympathizers, who are engaged in failed attempts to organize Borders stores. There was a minority of two posters, on a site that represents a minority (300? I'm being generous) of a corporation's 35,000 employees, advocating misdeeds. What you did, Charles, was omit the qualifiers that would have given the post context. It wouldn't have taken a whole lot of effort to say "some employees of Borders" or "a few employees of Borders." But you said "employees of Borders" which was, strictly speaking, correct, but a grave sin of omission. And by doing so, yes, you tarred all of them.

And if IIRC, even though there were at least two dozen posts in oppositional response to the two posts you cited, you dismissed those is being irrelevant, even though again, they would have added much needed context.

As for my logical abilities, they're fine, thanks. Good enough for 16 years of legal practice. The failure in logic is your assumption that pointing out hypocrisy when I see it must equate to Bush-hating.

Must all your readers be in absolute lockstep, Charles? Is that a requirement on lgf? Because if one can't dissent at all, then it really is an echo chamber, no?

338 Charles  Mon, Feb 28, 2005 12:34:09pm

No, pointing out hypocrisy (although you never explained how, since you admit my post was factual) doesn't automatically equate to Bush-hating. That judgment comes from reading some of your past comments.

As to whether there really was an overwhelming response against the employees who hid books, it's a little hard for anyone to check at this point since the entire thread was deleted. Seems an odd thing to do. If it had been left online, anyone could freely see for themselves whether I misprespresented something.

339 ereshkigal  Mon, Feb 28, 2005 2:43:04pm

Really?

I don't think I've ever so much as mentioned Bush in one of my rare posts here. Unless you count the quote regarding "House of Bush, House of Saud" in response to someone's suggestion that Bush should just nuke Saudi Arabia.

I've been a registered Republican since 1978. But feel free to call me a Bush-hating moonbat if you like. Accuracy doesn't seem to be a concern for you.
