On a serious note, I did not realize that Lebanon was quite as Westernized as it turns out to be. Apparently, the influence of the Jihadis in Lebanon was less than I expected.

I wish I could go and help them, that's how excited I am at the prospects of the civilized part of their society. One hopes that the Cedar Revolution turns out as positive as the Orange one in the Ukraine.

The best thing about islamic women wearing skimpy clothing is that:

You don't have to check them for bombs.

If you can read, this, Ms. hot Lebanese protestor girl:

Sorry. Didn't mean to insult you like that.

Although it still applies to the islamic girls...

Lebanon has always been fairly open. Prior to the "civil war" Beirut was was a truly beautiful city and known variously as Paris in the Levant, the Paris of the Middle East, etc. There has always been a strong non-Muslim population in Lebanon and, again prior to the "civil war", they had worked out a very effective system for the various religious and ethnic groups to be represented in the government.

I used to work with one of the photogs who is currently taking a lot of those Lebanese protest honey shots. He definitely has "the eye" - his wife is a hottie covering the region for a Canadian TV network.

BTW, that same photog got spanked a while back for "going native" in some of his descriptions of Palestinian "activities" while covering Gaza and West Bank and the security barrier. Otherwise, he's a good shooter.

May the Iranians ONLY fight for their freedom, if they truly want it, and then cautiously celebrate if they go pro-West.

Cautious cause pro-West leaders tend to have short lifespans in that part of the world.

Agreed there too. Lovely ladies, I don't mind saying (thought Kfir just...well, the girls know), but the thought of what it is they're protesting about is just beyond wonderful. Whatever they look like.

Is it my imagination or does the sentiment behind the protest show in the comparative beauty or ugliness of the protestor. Think about the looks of some of those anti-Bush DU type protesters compared to these.

Good luck with that. Imad Muginyeh is one of the most elusive figures in the world today. Nobody, not even the MOSSAD, knows where he is. He's most likely holed up in Tehran, but he could very well be in Damascus, or even Southern Lebanon. In addition, Muginyeh is rumoured to have had extensive facial surgery to alter his appearance.

Well, as the pathetic example of Carlos the Jackal shows, they can run but they can't hide.

Still, who is/are the Hezbollah point men in Lebanon? Find them and assassinate them. Let Hezbollah retaliate- it would create a fine excuse for America and Israel to finish Boy Assad off, as well as permit the eradication of both 25K Hezbollards and 14K Syrian troops.

I admit, I'm still not entirely clear on the geographical attributes of the Bekaa Valley, and where the Hezbollah jihadis and Syrians are therein. It looks to run like a conduit S/W to N/E, from Israel north to Syria. Use the IDF to push north into Lebanon, while using the USAF to crush the terrorists and Syrians as they flee north? Or would the jihadis just spill out into the Lebanese countryside, creating a hellish problem to track them down and kill them?

I love the fact that Yahoo news explains the invasion of Lebanon by Syria as "help to end the Lebanese civil war". And completely brushes over the massacres and terrorist attacks that resulted as a part of this "help". With friends like that, who needs enemies? Oh and the pics clearly show tons and tons of people (last estimate I heard: 1.5 million) but yahoo still calls it hundreds of thousands of people. Kind of funny in a sad way.

Instead here is a joke that involves the archetypal three guys on the street.

Three muslim guys are walking down the street, and a beautiful woman walks past them.

The first guy looks at heaven and says "Masha Allah! Masha Allah!" (meaning "what God wills". It is said when you see something beautiful).

The second guy looks up and says "Subhan Allah! Subhan Allah!" (meaning "Glory [be] to God"),

The third guy also looks up, and he says "Insha Allah! Insha Allah".

Which roughly means "God willing"--> You say it when you ask God for something".

In the midst of our probing, thought provoking analysis of Lebanese cleavage, it's worth noting that even the UN believes the Harriri killing was an inside job.

A United Nations investigation into the death of former Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri will report that Lebanese and Syrian authorities are behind a cover-up of evidence from the February 14 blast

"The UN investigators have become convinced that there was a cover-up of evidence at the very highest levels of the Lebanese and Syrian intelligence authorities," the British daily The Independent newspaper said on Monday

This AFP article quotes Robert Fisk (and I know crocodile piss has a better reputation around these parts) but an earlier article I read quoted different sources and came to the same conclusion.

Harriri was murdered by the Syrian mukharabat with the connivance of Lebanese authorities.

Revelations 17:1-4

"2": With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

"3": So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

"4": And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

When you see the protesters at these freedom rallies and some of the women are dressed in very western clothing (such as the woman featured in this topic) - they're ready to be free.

They've already seen what the west has to offer, and they want it.

Would I be right in assuming that the majority protesting Syria's terrorist occupation forces are Christian Lebanese and those at the Hezbollah rally were Muslims?

Looking at the population stats of Lebanon it's around 60% Muslim and 40% Christian. Shame it's not the other way round as I imagine the christian population is growing at a much slower rate.

I'm convinced these babes have caught onto the "Freedom Babe" meme, and are making sure to wear low-cut shirts to rallies, and I'm all for it. If it takes that to get the MSM to actually notice that something important is going on in Lebanon, so be it.

All kidding aside, the beautiful young lady in zombie's link also looks happy.

Has anyone seen any photos from the Hebollah cattle call demonstration in which anyone looks either beautiful or happy? Truly, I looked, and came up empty.

Bein' happy lookin' will probably get you a 1-way trip with a remotely detonated explosive vest.

You really think so? You like women that thin? What do the rest of the guys say? In case you don't know who we're talking about see here. She's the one on the left. For the ladies, what the heck, scroll down to the bottom of the same page for a lovely Kfir family photo. I think his mom looks pretty incredible.

476 zombie  Mon, Mar 14, 2005 2:11:41pm

Whoa -- check this out:

There was some discussion upthread about the ethnic origins of the Lebanese. There were speculations about Crusaders, Arabs, and so on. Actually, recent genetic tests show that many native Lebanese are probably descended from the original Phoenicians, who were themselves the descendents of "The Sea People," a mysterious group who arrived in the area by ship. Most historians now agree that The Sea People were probably the remnants of the Minoans who emigrated after their civilization collapsed due to eruptions and earthquakes.

With me so far? Now check out this 3,500-year-old image of a Minoan woman and these Minoan ladies, and compare them to the Lebanese protester of the MONTH.

Incredible resemblance. I'm convinced.

477 caryn  Mon, Mar 14, 2005 2:13:56pm

#470 Powderfinger
You're right. They all look pretty miserable--especially the women--while the pro-Lebanon group looks positively radiant with joy. I do hope it holds and they're not mowed down. As long as we (and the MSM) continue to pay attention, perhaps they will be safe. Someone mentioned earlier that having all the pretty ladies front and center probably helps assure media attention. Pretty good PR!

#353 - Are Lebanese white?

Not sure if anyone can really define white, but many Lebanese perceive themselves to be the descendants of the ancient Phonecians (usually the christians). Certainly many are of european extraction - especially when you consider the two millenial presence of the Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Crusader empires in modern day Lebanon. Let alone the 20th century mandates. This area was lost to the first arab jihad in the late 600-700s and forgotten by Europe until it emerged from the dark Ages and rediscovered on Crusade. The Byzantines (ie the eastern roman empire)never forgot about their oppressed bretheren. I know in my own lebanese family history we believe we have frankish blood from the Crusades and there are both greek orthodox and maronite religious traditions that establish a connection back 2000 years. But under the various caliphates both arab and ottoman there certainly was genetic pollination from the turks and elsewhere in the middle east. Not to mention the historic interactions with north africa, esp egypt, and all the other empires like the persian and mongolian that would have passed through from time to time. With this large genetic diversity the recessive genes are not rare and you'll definitely see some true blonds and many fair skined blue and green eyed people - especially when there is cross breeding with more conventional european/american bloodlines.

479 Q  Mon, Mar 14, 2005 2:15:44pm

All right, folks, time to wipe the jizz off the monitors and consider the following fact:

Democracy in Lebanon? Steve Sailer, the most intelligent of the paleo-cons (not to mention, as I have had occasion to observe more than once on this site, “the smartest gink I know” *) usefully points out that when you poll the people of the world to see which countries are most anti-American, the Lebanese come out at number two.

So, crucifix or not, there's a rather strong possibility the garleen's pretty head is full of anti-American (not to mention anti-Jewish, which goes without saying) garbage. Still, I wouldn't mind getting it from her. At all.

480 Ojoe  Mon, Mar 14, 2005 2:18:38pm

You know, if the crazy islamics cover their women up in bags, they won't be able to select for "pretty" and then after a while they will HAVE to keep them in bags. If you look at the Iranian police cadets, I think you can see that this is happening already.

481 Powderfinger  Mon, Mar 14, 2005 2:21:39pm

What we're all hoping to see is a transition to a free society with a free flow of information.

The cure for bigotry is knowledge, and not the kind you'll get from al-Manar. Contrary to what the msm will tell you, as we speak Iraqis are hosting and sharing camraderie with their US Army/Marine friends. These things take time.

One step at a time...

caryn: Well, some like 'em thin, some like 'em a bit more *ahem* rounded (luckily for me), some like 'em blonde and some like 'em dark. Interesting - no guy I've ever asked has said they had any special preference as to hair color, but I've realized, just now, that my ex-husband and everyone I've ever dated, including my H.S. boyfriends, had dark brown or black hair. (well, my last boyfriend had gray hair - I'm at the age where the men I date are either gray or balding - but he had dark hair when he was younger.) It's not like I have a dark hair fetish - blond guys just never asked me out. And I have light brown (or dark blonde hair, if you ask my hair stylist) and fair skin.

My siblings have dark hair and they married redheads (my brothers) and a blond (my sister).

I know dark haired people married to other dark haired people and blondes married to blonds so it's certainly not a universal pattern. But a friend once told me she was also quite struck by the fact that when she was her natural blonde self, dark-haired guys asked her out. When she went brunette for a while, the blonds and redheads started paying attention!

Speaking of tall, dark, and handsome: zulu, thanks for that eye candy!

OT: In Iraq today there was a protest against the alleged involvement of a Jordanian in the bombing recently that took 125 lives. An interesting blog I came across in my travels via Publius Pundit is this one which descibes the demonstration:

"...The journalist that wrote the story has also found himself in trouble with the law. According to Petra news agency (the state news agency), the interior minister announced that the reporter, Hadi al Nsour, was arrested for "publishing false information that harmed the country." Personally, I think it shouldn't be the journalist alone that takes all the blame. There had to have been a page editor and there should have been a managing editor that allowed this monstrosity to be published.

"This all developed because of one tiny inflammatory article published in a new daily that is trying desperately to be “controversial." Amazing no? This likely would not have happened several years ago when the Arabic media published inciting articles regularly but got away with it. Things are no longer the same due to modern technology. If this didn’t teach al-Ghad a lesson, I don’t know what will.

"It really is a scandal and a major embarrassment to each and every Jordanian. We say in Arabic "Fada7oona alla yefda7hom," or "they scandalized us, May God scandalize them." And this is exactly what the suicide bomber, his family and al-Ghad did to us! They tarnished our reputation. On a personal note, today an Iraqi Shia acquaintance approached me saying: "What, you guys are celebrating? Natasha, I'm going to kill you!" He was joking, fortunately.

"With regard to the demonstrations, what’s with the the Star of David painted [see picture] on this particular Jordanian flag? On Aljazeera I even saw a report showing an Iraqi holding a banner decrying the "Jordanian (Israeli) Government." Does everything in this region have to be a 'Zionist conspiracy?' Grow up people!"

Good news, the fleet's at sea!

US Navy (Public) Status Page

Basically, we have a force in the Persian Gulf, another outside the Gulf, could be routed to the Med if need be, and two carriers / six amphibs in the Atlantic. Assuming they join a command ship currently in Lisbon harbor, their next stop might be the Med. If all this is quiet deployment, instead of relief/rotation, that represents an overwhelming force the Bashar to contend with.

Oh, to have the Depends contract in Damascus...

In support of cultural diversity...

They could hack them into little pieces for crow food, like any self respecting Highlander.

The blue thing was actually Pictish habit that came about after the fusion of the Gaels and the Pictish people. The Gaels after having conquered the Pictish tribes assimilated them into their larger culture. The Gaels being a fair and reasonable people adopted some of the Pictish culture and unified the tribes through intermarrriage. Although the Gaels tended to be territorially expansive they were inclined to avoid destroying cultures they came in contact with.

A case in point being Saint Patrick who was kidnapped from Briton and made a slave. After having tended cattle herds for six or seven years he escaped to Briton, only to return again to Ireland as a christian missionary. He saw in the Irish a fertile ground in which to establish the precepts of christianity. He was clearly vidicated in his assumption. Subsequently the Irish christians were known to have spread christian theology throughout Europe at least as far away as Italy.

Unfortunately, the tide up until now has been running in the opposite direction. It's an interesting piece of history when examined in the context of current events.

Forgive if I digress.
