Charles,
I was just going to ask if you were sure it wasn't a parody.
And you didn't say first.

Wanna see my "Crazy Mocha"?

How can anyone with a lick of sense take these people seriously?

#1 Charles:

Crazy Mocha!

You should have added "First!" to the end there.

9 TMF  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:13:58pm

Ah the Crazy Mocha.

That esteemed gathering place of mental incompetents, fools, ignoramuses, junkies, and the unwashed masses of goofy kids who were picked on in high school and now project their anger against the US and their mommies and daddies (who pay their rent anyway)!

10 Jheka  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:14:05pm

#1 Charles:

I realize that you're new here but it's customary to write "FIRST!" When one is (or thinks one is) the first poster on any thread. Just for future reference.

11 Moor  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:15:36pm

There's one huge difference the Vietnam tactics won't work--BLOGS. The American people have more outlets to get news than they did in the sixties and seventies. As an ex-liberal/socialist, I'm astounded as how these so-called peace activists claim to support the troops when they in fact want them to lose.

12 Rednek  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:15:38pm

I just did a little calculation.

If the US had killed 100,000 Iraqis that would average to 166/ day in the months from the invasion to the Lancet article. That is like a major airline crash every day. Does anyone doubt that every news organization would have bathed every camera they had in blood every day had that happened? Just sayin'.

13 godfrey  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:16:28pm

Click on the "Calendar" to see that there's also a "Genocide in Sudan" lecture at the Church of the Redeemer in Squirrel Hill, a historically (currently?) Jewish section of town. So there's hope for Pittsburgh.

are what can stop the U.S. slaughter in Iraq today

Huh? You'd think if our goal were to slaughter Iraqis, we'd be done by now.

Now Saddam who was ethnically cleansing portions of Iraq and filling mass graves with hundreds of thousands of innocents... Kerry voters never found the desire or energy to want that stopped. And the Muslim "freedom fighters" who have been slaughtering Iraqis for many months? Our liberals couldn't care less.

I know, I know, it makes it look like the largest motivator to these people is that the USA is the greatest evil and threat in the world, even in the face of documented monsters. Just don't question their patriotism, ok? And don't forget to send your contribution to the DNC.

16 Apu Pibat  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:19:04pm

I suspect they cannot even comprehend a win-win situation --for the US/Allies AND the Iraqis.

That would mean everything they believed in was wrong.

Pathetic.

35 godfrey  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:26:59pm

Some web foraging on Merton:

Born in France as World War I was getting under way, he died 54 years later at a conference center in Thailand, just one border removed from the Indochina War. His body was flown back home in a U.S. Air Force plane bringing back soldiers killed in Vietnam-just the right company for Merton.

Merton as monk had the right address not to notice that the world was in crisis. His thoughts on entering the Abbey of Gethsemani (just three days after the attack on Pearl Harbor) suggest he had no intention of keeping up with events beyond the monastic enclosure.

Dammit, _Seven Storey Mountain_ was a good read.

41 FredFryInternational  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:29:26pm

Why does no one in the anti-war group ever suggest protesting the other side before the US goes to war?

Why are none of them out in front of North Korean Embassies around the world protesting the goverments horrible human rights abuses, state sponsored Drug smuggling, nuclear weapons development, and for threatening their southern neighbor, and oh yes, starting the Korean War...

Why are none of them out front of Iran's Embassy, Zimbabwe's Embassy, China's Embassy, etc...

Good or not, the US goes to war with a reason. How about protesting the country providing the reason...

The raod home from Iraq leads through Iran and North Korea!

"Send more Human Shields!"

42 logger phd  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:29:29pm

Seven Story Mountain is good, what I have read of it. I read a book of correspondence between him and the Polish poet Milosz (who just dies a coupel of years ago). I was interesting to see their views on war start to diverge, being that Milosz had a first-hand view of living under Communist rule.

Mass protests, GI refusals and a powerful “insurgent” movement - the same things that led to the end of the war in Vietnam are what can stop the U.S. slaughter in Iraq today.

"the U.S. slaughter in Iraq" I believe the only real people being slaughered are Iraqi killing insurrgents.

Hmm, these are the lessons they are foccusing to try and "stop" the us. I wonder which of these three, if not all, these idiots will try to push.

So Far mass protests have fizzled and doughtful that they will be effective as they were in Vietnam. The goverment learns lessons also.

GI refusals, this again is a minority because unlike vietnam most GI's know and believe in what they are doing there in Iraq. Though MTV liberal reality TV are making headway in countering Army recruiting efforts and numbers are dropping.

Now we have the "insurgency" which is a fancy media word thugs, murderers, and foriegn interlopers. If they plan on backing them then they are in for one big let down. Their cause is done. Put a fork in it.

47 wordwolf  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:32:22pm

I wish I could find this funnier than I do. What's most annoying/disquieting is the affected horror at "the U.S. slaughter in Iraq" on the part of people who are usually the first to say that you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, and that suicide bombing of restaurants and markets is the action of brave freedom fighters. It's the reduction of human beings as means to political ends that frightens me...

48 tigger2005  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:32:34pm

You see, we're still carpet-bombing BOTH Afghanistan and Iraq, absolutely smashing both countries to smithereens, over and over and over and over and over. It hasn't stopped yet. We're also lining Iraqis up in front of trenches we forced them to dig, then machine-gunning them. Don't forget the gassings of whole villages, and the long lines of trucks going into the extermination camps.

Oh, the elections in those countries? Big farces. American troops either paid people to vote or held their children at gunpoint to force them to go to the polls.

50 Van Impe  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 12:32:55pm

Yes, stop the "slaughter" in Iraq by supporting the insurgents.

This goes beyond treason. That anyone other than a Baathist or jihadi would in any way support the murderous thugs currently wreaking havoc in Iraq is on par morally with supporting Final Solution. Its one thing to oppose the war as a matter of politics its another to support this enemy.

the U.S. slaughter in Iraq

Actually, statistically, the vast number of innocent Iraqis killed in this war have been killed by the "insurgents".

If you google "homicide bombings Iraq" you'll come up with about 100000 hits, representing literally 100s of bombings which have resulted in the deaths of 1000s of civilians.

They have bombed markets. They have bombed mosques. They have bombed government buildings. THey have bombed police stations. They have bombed hotels. THey have bombed restaraunts.

The bombers?

Iraqis.

Lets get our facts straight, 'tards. THere's a slaughter going on in Iraq alright. Just ask the terrorists.

After the Vietnam War, Arafat went to the North Vietnamese to ask them how they could possibly have defeated a nation as powerful as the United States.

They told him that the secret is to get half the U.S. to work on the nation's defeat from inside. You get half the people inside to question the powerful nation's actions, and they defeat the powerful country FOR you.

Arafat worked this strategy to his advantage for the rest of his life.

The extreme left in the U.S. are our mortal enemies.

They seek to weaken us to the point of destruction.

They are trying to self-hate us out of existence.

Anyone see the Congressional Medal of Honor winner's wife Birgit Smith calmly talking about how her husband wanted to be in Iraq with his "boys" just doing their (military) jobs? She was so committed to his will and proud of his sacrifice to save his troops. (On Fox this morning with E.D. Hill.)

And unlike the exhibitionist LLL freak fringe, Smith's widow said her military husband would not have wanted us to make a big fuss about his heroism. What a great mensch.

Well, why we are all laughing the Indymedia crowd has been rather successful in running military recruiters off of campuses and out of job fairs all over the country. I'm not trying to be contrary here, but they ARE ratcheting this up. Of course it is coordinated by some group or groups. I know we all think most of these fools are idiots, but at the same time I am beginning to worry a bit that the "resistance" movement could get quite nasty. And given the way these moonbats are always planning "direct actions", I wonder how long before it gets ugly? I'd like to see some people defend the recruiters. I'm getting tired of seeing them forced to leave public places and public job fairs. What can we do, if anything?

You see, we're still carpet-bombing BOTH Afghanistan and Iraq, absolutely smashing both countries to smithereens, over and over and over and over and over. It hasn't stopped yet. We're also lining Iraqis up in front of trenches we forced them to dig, then machine-gunning them. Don't forget the gassings of whole villages, and the long lines of trucks going into the extermination camps.

Hey, you didn't mention the extensive gulag system that John Ashcroft built in Montana. Thousands of liberals are being arrested and shipped up there every day.

Also, Rumsfeld is forcing a whole bunch of kidnapped French scientists to develop a fleet of sharks with frickin' lasers on them.

Don't even get me started on what Dick Cheney is up to. I'll give you a hint: it starts with an H, and ends with -burton.

Been wondering why the Bush family is so friendly with Bill Clinton lately? Well, that's not really Bill Clinton, that's really an actor that has been surgically altered to look and sound like Bill. The real Bill Clinton was placed into cryogenic deep freeze, and is being stored in a secret laboratory built by Diebold that is located 2000 feet below Crawford, Texas.

Behind it all, pulling the strings, is Karl Rove, the Republicans' dark lord and master.

Leftist filth.

I asked a question on my blog a while back

There's a saying that goes, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you." There's also a quote attributed to Voltaire that says, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

I sometimes wonder what would happen if those two ideas came into conflict with each other. Can the radical fringe of the Left bite off a chunk so big that their defense is no longer guaranteed? Should I be willing to defend you after you spit on me, berate me, make false accusations against me, and treat me with disdain?

I'm a former Marine, and I'm finding it difficult to say that I would be willing to defend these cretins. Is there a point where we can just say screw 'em? What are your thoughts on this?

Mass protests, GI refusals and a powerful “insurgent” movement - the same things that led to the end of the war in Vietnam are what can stop the U.S. slaughter in Iraq today.

The so-called "peace" movement is not what ended the Vietnam War. What really ended the war in Vietnam was Watergate. It ain't the hippies who invented that, it was the professionals in the Democratic Party. The difference between then and now is us. The citizen blogger, representing the free access to information, is the primary the reason why the Democrats cannot get us to lose this war in my humble opinion. This time, we are the hippies. George Bush is the hippie; Ted Kennedy is the establishment.

I think its a wonderful idea to transform racial epithets to equivalences, if that's the thrust of the discussion. Anyone who uses racial epithets does not deserve better than that, and the honored participants in this blog do not deserve to be exposed to such demeaning language which, it goes without saying, cheapens the points they labor to make. Many of us research for quite some time some of the things we post here, and we don't want to be measured with the same stick that just plumbed the cesspool. If you want racial epithets just access some of the rap and hiphop lyrics that the Left uses to keep their plantation pumping out Democratic votes.

She's a she.

Check my post on the 'muttering moonbat' thread. Basically, I said that you should believe her, because I have been to SERE school and she knows what she's talking about. Then I said that, by your standards, you shouldn't believe me, since I am an unverifiable poster on LGF. I then mentioned that you have to take some things on faith. I then said that I believed that you were a barking moonbat.

the same things that led to victory for North Vietnam and subsequent deaths and suffering of millions in reeducation camps. What’s different today is no unchecked agenda driven MSM that can convince America to abandon it’s allies and cut and run in the face of victory, as after the Tet Offensive.

How can the U.S. be stopped?

...lessons from the VietNam War?

We lost about three hundred soldiers (that means dead) per week in that damn war, two of which were close to me. Any lessons we may have learned from that war should include making sure that people like this (PA) group get largely ignored; their efforts caused the casualty numbers more than they curtailed them.
Today, this is just noise from the next two generations of the same shit-heels who spit on our troops, then.

Charles are you here? I checked my local IMC site, and they have some interesting plans to protest Catipiller on April 13th.

I was watching American Chopper on Monday night, and they're building a bike for Caterpillar over these next two shows.

As the episode begins, Sr., Jr. and the crew go to the Cat plant to visit, see how the vehicles are built, etc. As I was watching, I was expecting a bunch of lefties to burst into the place and start protesting about Rachel Corrie again.

It would have been funny to see Sr. kick a few hippies in the ass with his size 12s.

It is obvious that the left wing nut jobs are drawing the wrong conclusions from the Vietnam War. While it was American Seniment that brought the troops home, there is greater resistance to it this time because the monopoly on the news has been broken.

Now these same people must compete with the rest of us to get their message out and it isn't playing very well to the rest of us. The other lesson is that those that went to Vietnam and saw the reality of that war vice the reporting and antiwar sentiment are more than willing to stand up and say those that were against the war were full of crap.

These days you get invited to live somewhere else if you think we need to stick our heads in the sand. That all by itself tends to make people STFU.

The 'sensless slaughter' is mostly a load of crap too. With so many spouting the bull, it is no wonder they are squealing 'kick it up a notch!'

I have a single wish. That would be for each and every one of these people to stick their head under the boot of the nearest tyrant for awhile. Make sure it's good and painful too. Once the tyrant has had enough fun he can return what's left and see what the opinion is then.

I'd like to see some people defend the recruiters. I'm getting tired of seeing them forced to leave public places and public job fairs.

The Universities are bastions of LLL’s, and have banned ROTC and military recruiters for quite some time. What’s just as bad is the Defense Department set up funds for a lot of Universities to open up Middle Eastern studies departments in order to have a pool of qualified applicants for intelligence jobs. But the Universities also won’t let the CIA or other Department of Defense intelligence agencies recruit.

Speaking of crazy mocha, I just stepped out into the lobby of my building to get a coke and the door of my Marxist neighbor was wide open. I got a good glimpse of the portraits of his buddies Trotsky and Lenin hanging on the walls.

Since "property is theft", I was tempted to stroll right into his place and help myself to his DVD player and mountain bike.

It also occurred to me that in, say, Moscow in 1978, you probably didn't leave your apartment door wide open so everyone and his brother could see a picture of Sharansky and fellow refuseniks hanging on your walls.

My neighbor and the crazy mocha crowd have a lot to learn about how to properly conduct themselves in an oppressive, totalitarian society. I'm sure the old Russian Jews who own the little mom-and-pop store across the street could give them quite a lesson - not that the moonbats would listen.

I noticed the filter because I was pointing out Roger's bigotry to him, using his own slurs, and the filter caught the slurs. It's a neat trick.

377 Former SSG  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 4:11:06pm

War in Islam, modern vs, old.

Failure desired by EU – so EU can say we told you that you can’t be unilateral. EU needs us to win, more than US does. Terrorism growing there. 9/11 bombers and others were citizens of Holland, Germany and /France.

Islam France’s 2nd religion.

Paris. French Muslim school girls. Impressions of US: Bad images. US wants to wage war on everyone. Only watch Al Jazeera. Arabs are afraid to debate issues among themselves. In favor of suicide bombers. Show god they’re ready to fight for Islam. Paradise for martyrs. In favor the bombings.

Churches empty, mosques full.

International Relations Prof – French 4 main rel – Christianity, Islam, Judaism and the religion of the republic – secularism. Separation of church and state differs from US version. No religious icons such as “in God we trust.” French law forbidding religious displays in schools. No scarves, yarmulkes, crosses.

Muslim female Paris talk show host, proponent of moderate Islam, said it is offensive to French that GWB swore oath on a Bible, used phrase crusade vs. evil. Religion is dangerous. He is a fanatic. (implied)
Hate Bush’s policy use of religion.

Block to good relations, secularists hate us too.

Poly sci college students. Shocked by Bush, saying with the help of God, swearing on bible offends them.

Economic competition. EU as ultimate international conglomerate. Battling American companies. Mergers blocked, fines to Microdsoft. MCI, Sprint, Coke, etc. variously affected.

Cosmetics- EU banned almost all US beauty products. US companies must adjust formulas. Adapt to our market or disappear. Cancer? American companies say products are safe, EU worried about minute chemicals that are not harmful. Considerable expense to adjust. Tip of iceberg.
Rules for all consumer products. Close us out of the market.

Mike Walls, Am Chemical Council. Not just chemicals, but all products made with them. Sweeping reform. Free trade organizations upset. Japan analogy. Hidden trade barrier, like no cars with red bumpers will be imported. EU primacy in economy, due to market size and regulations.

TF: Smokers in restaurants – hypocritical. There is a law, badly implemented. Environment as excuse.

FR guy: Head on collision. Consumer market advantageous to EU. Can make rules. US should welcome EU regulations and products.

Parisians on strike. Protest on cut back of public services, and end of 35 hour work week. Welfare state tightening up due to US tightening defense spending in region. Kagan said, We maintain international security, and the EU flourishes with government programs.

Social welfare
Berlin: American filmmaker, office manager couple. Gov’t provides daycare for 4 kids. 6 mo to 6 years old, day care for 9 hours, 5 days with lunch costs $200 week. 3 years maternity, must rehire, and Mom and Dad can switch off the time off. $400 month for having baby.

Health: Mom free while off, kids free while she is off. Taxes similar to US. Invest in babies, not bombs.

Big cultural diff –pride in social welfare.

US less likely to pay for defense in the future and the Europeans don’t care. They are unconcerned about strategic threats, and consider the US to be the biggest danger.

Europeans are waiting for US to come to its senses. Long wait, as GWB was elected.

American Marshall scholars at Oxford: Neocons scare Europeans.

Marshall scholars who defend US are called Haliburton scholars. When they have 911, who will help the Europeans? Not China. Loneliest man in town- defending US. Hard to get a date.

Pride and belief in US. Descendant of Holocaust survivors. Proud of US and will defend it. Some students don’t fell GWB represents them, but are still proud of their country. Europens think Americans think no one else matters. Moral purpose of US rings hollow to EU.

Isolation of US may force us to go it alone. Rise of China and India – productivity. Change in the future.

I did my best. The second half went fast, and I was unaware of a lot of the economic issues. Boycott Freance, he!, we need to boycott the entire EU. Worth watching, like I said on the grounds of, "Know your enemy." They are certainly our economic enemy.

384 Former SSG  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 4:15:34pm

Not neo - you are not sshouting in the dark, I hear you.

Wacademic trolls are the best kind, I think.

Oh, undoubtedly.
Unless you get into a wacademic epidemic.

Sorry. I am sure it is a respectable profession. Were were jsut deciding on what school the troll went to, and because of his digd, well, it seemed apropo. My apologies to your esteemed brother.

Crazy Mocha's Website uses a goat for a mascot. I'm not kidd-ing. Nyuck nyuck nyuck

not "kidding"? LOLOL
baaad idea for a mascot since goats will swallow anything.

what's their fight-song-- "I only have eyes for ewe"?

so THAT'S where all the oil-for-Koffi scam monies went...a Koffi house in PA.

388 Former SSG  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 4:19:13pm

I just gave myself an assignment, finished it and came back. But I have also decided that the troll raises my blood pressure, and I do not like him, Sam I am... I do not like him on my thread, and I think he needs his med.

389 Former SSG  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 4:20:47pm

I will not have him in a boat, I will not write him one more note. I will not let him get my goat.

Now that's a classic.

I do not like it when it posts

I do not like trolls when they are rude
Come on Charles, ban this dude.

Yup, I think it's the same one. Also Iron Fist's troll (same guy). My one major complaint about motime is that it doesn't permit you to block unregistered posters, so I just delete its comments no matter what they are.

393 Former SSG  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 4:25:17pm

Not neo-

Wonderful!

394 Former SSG  Thu, Apr 7, 2005 4:27:54pm

I regularly take contrary positions. I've disagreed with Charles on occasion. I am not generally considered a troll. Occasional Reader takes positions that are sometimes unpopular with the majority. He isn't a troll. Bigel is a walking, talking contrary position as far as many of us are concerned. He isn't a troll either. You, on the other hand, seem to be the very definition of a troll. Kindly go away.

Good or not, the US goes to war with a reason. How about protesting the country providing the reason...

And might I add, that we're the only country I know of that drops food and medicine while we're bombing our enemies, and after all is said and done, gives them their country back! And then we spend money to rebuild these countries. I'm thinking that we should take the oil for repayment.

#363 Absoludicrious, On that thread I said to you that the word was [unfortunately for your beef] not used on that thread. [Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

You showed me that the singular form was there.

Also discussed the perjoratives that you were talking about. Your now mixing everything in a lie. Are you a conscious liar or are you mistaken? Now you have jumped to another thread (where I might not have seen this) and perpetrated your lie. Do you want to continue?

Re-registering takes about 5 minutes if you have an additional e-mail. However, as long as you know your user name you can get a new password e-mailed to you at the e-mail that you registered with. Just go here and click on "forgot it" (next to "Password").

To everybody that reads or might one day like to read my blog, please, please register. Then I can just keep comments to registered users and nix my troll problem. Registration is super-quick and easy and will allow you to post with an actual name on all motime blogs (that includes me, Urthshu, Pookle's new place, that idiot Blitz's blog and many others). As long as so many of my comments are from unlogged people I don't feel comfortable with limiting it to motimers so, please, register.

You are digging way back for that one...hehehe)

BTW Why is everyone picking on Traveshamockery..er Ludicricricous.. er.. whatever their CB handle is...

Heres the deal-ee-oh bruh. If someone were to always disagree with what Charles was posting, (search "Gordon") then they would in all likelihood have a clinical case of cognitive disonance or projectionism, or PEST, or some other moonbat ailment that made them feel cool to have opinions contrary to the prevailing rational thought process of intelligent people. (yawn..)

And while there's nothing "wrong" with that in a free society, others around you will soon grow tired of your contorted BS and just swat at your annoying buzzing noise. You disagree with everything. Thats why you are thought of as a dipshit.

LOL yes, there was a wee bit of "reaching" on that pun, but...I had actually thought of saying "they tend to BUTT into everything without the slightest "milk" of human kindness and are often very cheesy"...hehe but I restrained my naturally PUNNY self out of respect to the site.

I am going to assume (but that in and of its very nature can be dangerous) that the remainder of your post was for another lgf poster. It is early and I am sleepy and reading it as all one post I am rubbing my eyes wondering if I really am a dipshit. LOL (don't answer that LMAO)

417 sngnsgt  Fri, Apr 8, 2005 4:01:14am

I moved from NV to PA due to a family illness and in exchange for care given I am attending school here in PA. I can't wait to move away from this "blue state" and this lousy weather. I find myself laughing at the moonbats in PA still riding around with sKerry bumper stickers still on their cars! They often use the wrong finger to tell me I'm number one when they see the Bush/ Cheney sticker on the back of my truck! As soon as I graduate from school, I'm outa-here!

418 wiseoldfool  Fri, Apr 8, 2005 4:37:41am

I say let the loony left freak show roll on. Although annoying, it is beneficial in two ways. First, it allows the left wing nut jobs to vent their frustration (without resorting to violence) over losing the battle of hearts and minds in America. Second, the more often it plays, the more moderate and traditional democrats will exposed to this lunacy and realize their party has been high jacked by these anti-American flakes. Many will either vote Republican or not at all.

419 Roger  Fri, Apr 8, 2005 5:46:27am

For your suggestion box, Charles.

Have the pejorative filter put an editorial after the word in square brackets. For example

Arab[filtered]

This all started from one word being filtered next to one that wasn't filtered which led me to believe Absoludicrous could not discern the difference between a person's religion or race [wrt pejoratives].

Is there an editing style for achieving this?

P.S. I know it is too much to ask for a personal filter to change my 'yours' into 'you'res':-)

P.P.S. There is no need for a filter for pejoratives against Christians:-) Its just a part of the territory.

P.P.P.S. And I do appreciate that I can post my individual opinion which differs from yours at LGF. Thank you!

P.P.P.P.S. Absoludicrous, your still a wuss:-)

420 Gilligan_1970  Fri, Apr 8, 2005 5:55:59am

I hope, no i pray that that these LLL's get so fed up that they try to revolt.

Then we can finally rid ourselves of this sick cancer. What can you do with people that refuse to accept reality? Who have their heads sewn on backwards, where right is wrong and wrong is right? Where we are to show mercy and cry for murderous dictators, but throw our unwanted children in the trash. This cancer has grown too big. Time to remove it before it kill the whole body.

422 Baldy  Fri, Apr 8, 2005 11:44:53am

I live in Pittsburgh. (1) I used to go to TMC events (they ave many affiliated groups). (2) Near the TMC, a female prostitute with several teeth missing propositioned me once.

423 Baldy  Fri, Apr 8, 2005 12:02:02pm

Pittsburgh is a wonderful place. The people born here generally are Dems, but conservative (& religious) in many ways. Friendly. We've have all kinds of young people coming here, the city tries to attract young single artistic types - lofts that cost A FORTUNE opening up to attract them. I grew up in the 'Burbs, moved to City in 80s, it's gone downhill. Bums panhandle in my neighborhood (Squirrell Hill- Jewish nieghborhood), never did that until Clinton years. There is a LONG history of radical types here (1892 Homestead Strike), Molly Rush etc. Still, I consider them a fringe. They are more prevalent in eastern city neighborhoods (CMU & Pitt & a few small colleges there). A lot of the radical types flowed from labor radicals & the universities...

424 Stop Hillary  Fri, Apr 8, 2005 5:18:28pm

Baldy,

Pittsburgh is easily one of my favorite eastern cities. Haven't been there in ten years, but used to go more frequently. NYC is still number one in a lot of respects, overpowering moonbat presence notwithstanding. But I put the Iron City next. I grew up in a heavy blue collar town and what I like about Pittsburgh is that mix along with some cultural refinements that you'd expect to see in NYC. The hills make for some grand vistas and help to keep neighborhoods with a wide array of identities maintained and thriving. I only wish Pennsylvania were a Red State and hope that Rendell doesn't screw the pooch. Boston might give it a run for the money and surely some will rank it higher, but Pittsburgh has an earthy quality about it that the stuffedshirts in Boston will never understand.

425 Baldy  Fri, Apr 8, 2005 7:20:19pm

Stop Hillary #424 - Just about ALL of my friends from out-of-town say it's a horrible place, too provincial, racist, homophobic etc. I don't know, but I can't tell you how many times young blacks have attacked this white gay guy for no reason. I guess there're some problems, but I still love it. After 9/11, I couldn't stand my neighborhood sometimes. Even though it has a lot of Orthodox Jews, who are very good neighbors, we have a TON of college kids/professors, and sice 9/11, the anti-American crap has been everywhere - vandals plastering nasty fliers everywhere, anti-war marches etc.

426 Roger  Sat, Apr 9, 2005 2:12:33am
