Afghan clerics threaten Muslim holy war over Koran.

FAIZABAD, Afghanistan (Reuters) - A group of Afghan Muslim clerics threatened on Sunday to call for a holy war against the United States in three days unless it hands over military interrogators reported to have desecrated the Koran.

The warning came after 16 Afghans were killed and more than 100 hurt last week in the worst anti-U.S. protests across the country since U.S. forces invaded in 2001 to oust the Taliban for sheltering Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda network.

The clerics in the northeastern province of Badakhshan said they wanted President Bush to handle the matter honestly “and hand the culprits over to an Islamic country for punishment.”

“If that does not happen within three days, we will launch a jihad against America,” said a statement issued by about 300 clerics, referring to Muslim holy war, after meeting in the main mosque in the provincial capital, Faizabad.

Hey, wait a minute. I thought jihad meant a peaceful internal struggle for self-improvement?

“and hand the culprits over to an Islamic country for punishment.”

I agree.

Let's hand the editors of Newsweek over to the clerics.

I think it will be an educational experience for both parties.

"Hey, wait a minute. I thought jihad meant a peaceful internal struggle for self-improvement?"

LGF, you silly blog, you. Don't you know that "jihad" means whatever it needs to mean at that moment to allow the "radical" Islamicists the bigger stake in victim-hood?

Oh, wait a minute, I guess you were being sarcastic. Never mind.

I'd also like an official apology
(akin to the one Condi Rice gave to the Muslim world) for the
NEA's support of "Piss Christ", in which a crucifix was dumped in a jar of "urine".

And I'd like to see the US government affirm that it respects the symbols of the Christian faith, as it also respects Christians and eagerly accepts their participation in US democracy.

Otherwise, let the riots begin!

Iran's mullahs give Europeans "Ultimatum"

A senior mullahs' regime official here Saturday called on the Europeans to abandon threats and continue negotiations with Tehran to iron out the differences over the country's nuclear energy program or else. The remarks by the head of the Iranian negotiating team, Sirous Nasseri, came after the Europeans warned Iran of 'consequences' with British Prime Minister Tony Blair citing possible report to the UN Security Council if Tehran resumes uranium reprocessing. "The Europeans, and better than all Mr. Blair, well know that any threats on the part of Europe, leading to a confrontation with Iran, will be a big strategic blunder for Europe,"

We should send teams of ACLU members to all Muslim countries to defend the practice of religious symbol desecration as an essential part of American free speech. They could take pictures of Andre Serrano’s “Piss Christ” and the “Holy Virgin Mary” (Dung Covered Madonna) by Chris Ofili as examples of desecration the ACLU has supported in the name of free speech. They could then describe how they were planning to ask the NEA to sponsor a performance art piece that would feature an American soldier throwing a Koran into the toilet in front of a Muslim prisoner to show the ACLU’s sympathy with Muslims. The piece would be performed nightly and would feature actual Korans to insure authenticity.

To show solidarity with peace loving Muslims the ACLU members could burn an American flag and shout “down with George Bush.”

18 cardiacmont  Sun, May 15, 2005 6:46:13am

What does jihad mean? I'm beginning to think it's kind of like the discussion I saw on lgf about the use of the 'n' word.

It means something different depending on who says it. If you're part of the "discriminated against minority", it's ok to say it and for it to mean "Muslim Holy War."

If you're not part of the "discriminated against minority", it must mean what the "discriminated against minority" means for it to say.

Because I'm not part of the "discriminated against minority", this definition itself is probably wrong.

This idea was formulated just a minute ago, so I'll welcome any expansion or dismantling of this theory.

Oh and the left are deliriously pissed over our detention of precious Muslims/enemy combatants in Guantanomo. Leftists display the very same reaction when a serial rapist/murderer is put to death. Three days? Hello, Afghan Muslim Clerics, are you there? On September 11th, 2001, (1,342 days ago, as I write this), one of your ‘clerics’ launched an attack against the United States by conspiring to steal by force, passenger laden aircraft and fly them into buildings. 3,283 persons were murdered by this cleric and 19 suicide attackers avoided punishment for their actions on this world, but hopefully are suffering their punishment in another world.

Again we see Islam as the religion of peace. Not! And where is the counter-protest from "moderate" Muslims who should be condemning these klerical kooks for acting on nothing more than unsubstantiated rumor? Did Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell or any other mainline Christian pastor call for just war against the NEA or the Supreme Court when the atheist Texas teacher threw the Bibles of two student into a trash can and called it garbage? No. I think there is a lesson in there for Muslims, CHILL OUT!

Too bad the liberal media won't mainstream the entirely plausible news that it may have been a Jihadist himself who is at the root of the story when he tore up the Koran and flushed it trying to make Mr. RotoRotor's life a living hell. And even if the original story proves true, so what, print a thousand more Korans to make up for the one flushed down the toilet.

On your OT: aloe vera or sábila as it's called her (Mexico), only works when it's fresh. I cut a leaf off one of my plants and use it, works great then. It's also good for the stomach, which is what most people here use it for. One thing, when they use the "someone mistreated the Koran" justification, it is always aimed at keeping the Muslims enraged --loaded for blood lust.

Their biggest fear is when things DO calm down and they ARE treated well. To be a victim of "oppression" one has to keep being "victimized" even if it means creating the appearance of it.

ABC runs AP wire story that is essentially nothing but a Palestinian propaganda piece

Palestinian Rallies Mournfully Mark Day Israel Was Created 57 Years Ago

By MOHAMMED DARAGHMEH Associated Press Writer

RAMALLAH, West Bank May 15, 2005 — Angry protesters marched through the streets and sirens brought traffic to a halt throughout the West Bank and Gaza on Sunday as Palestinians mournfully commemorated the day Israel was created, calling it one of the darkest days in their history.

While Israelis held barbecues, concerts and launched fireworks to celebrate the 57th anniversary of their independence Thursday according to the date on the Hebrew calendar Palestinians see the day very differently, marking it Sunday as Al-Nakba, which is Arabic for "the catastrophe."

"Our people will never forget and the generations will never forget," Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said in a speech aired on Palestine TV. "On that day, a crime was committed against a people, who were uprooted from their land and whose existence was destroyed...

...blah blah blah for three more pages -- an unadulterated presentation of the "Palestinian narrative."

It really looks like AP has utterly dhimmified itself. Probably due to PC intimidation, they hire Palestinians as stringers (to show how "fair" they are) and let them write total propaganda articles, then kindly edit the articles to match AP style, and release them on the wires.

Inch by inch into dhimmitude. And the propaganda seeps into society.

Think any great American "artist" will ever have the nerve to create a "Piss Koran"? This current and previous displays of Muslim insanity can't help but cause many to pause before criticizing Islam. I certainly don't advocote such insults to Christians or Muslims, but I hope Americans will not be cowed into silence and refrain from criticizing Islam. Power Line has a good round-up of Newsweek's disgraceful behaviour. They link to Newsweek's confession:

Last Friday, a top Pentagon spokesman told us that a review of the probe cited in our story showed that it was never meant to look into charges of Qur'an desecration. The spokesman also said the Pentagon had investigated other desecration charges by detainees and found them "not credible." Our original source later said he couldn't be certain about reading of the alleged Qur'an incident in the report we cited, and said it might have been in other investigative documents or drafts. Top administration officials have promised to continue looking into the charges, and so will we. But we regret that we got any part of our story wrong, and extend our sympathies to victims of the violence and to the U.S. soldiers caught in its midst.

More revolting OT

Today is the 31st anniversary of the Ma'alot massacre, but the BBC's wayback machine reveals that even in 1974 they infused their articles with moral equivalence and not-so-subtle biased phraseology:

1974: Teenagers die in Israeli school attack

Sixteen teenagers have died along with three Palestinians holding them hostage at an Israeli school.

Up to seven children were injured, nine critically, after Israeli troops stormed the building in an attempt to free the youngsters in Ma'alot, five miles (eight kilometres) from the Lebanese border.

Ugh! Argh! I'm about to pop a vein! Let me rewrite that headline and lede the way it ouight to have been written in a sane world:

Palestinian Terrorists Massacre Innocent Children

A group of Marxist Palestinian terrorists killed 16 schoolchildren before Israeli soldiers burst in and killed three of the attackers...

Notice carefully the passive syntax in the BBC version: some teenagers and Palestinians have died. How sad.

The media bias has been around for decades. Only in the last couple of years has the blogosphere started to expose it.

We have a huge job ahead of us, folks.

Well, World War IV starts in earnest now, and it's all due to an unsupported claim by Newsweek about what some U.S. questioners supposedly did to a BOOK (not to a human being, but to a BOOK.)

Maybe they'll think twice next time before they publish rumors with far-reaching consequences.

I hate to say anything to lessen the justiable criticism of Newsweek. I think it's about like Rathergate. They saw a chance to write another story that cast America and the Bush administration in a bad light, so they leaped before they looked.

But this will also fall alongside the Rushdie affair as another example of what can happen when anyone exercises free speech (or careless speech) that offends Muslims. The lunacy can't help but cause people second thoughts before they criticize Islam in the future. That can be the negative aspect of this, and something that needs to guarded against. Islam needs much more criticism (truth) on an ongoing basis.

I would like to repeat that these bastards have bombed and destroyed the giant Buddhas at Bamyan.

Nobody in the world did anything to protect those masterworks, sacred for the Buddhists and a treasure of art belonging to Mankind.

Centuries before, the muslim artillery had used the Sphinx, in Egypt, for target practice.

It's time to throw these bastards and their mad ideology out of history.
THIS is the holy war.

Funny you should mention minutemen, yesterday at the Save Our State rally in Baldwin Park Ca. A 66 year old lady, who had recently returned from the Minuteman Project was hit in the head with a bottle.

Everything that we argued the monument stood for was reinforced by the hundreds of activists who opposed our presence in Baldwin Park. Numerous times we were told that this land is Mexico and that they were taking it back. Numerous times racists epithets were hurled away. One person even hurled a full water bottle at our side and sent one of our activists to the hospital with bleeding in the brain. Unfortunately, she is now in the intensive care unit and we are all praying and hoping for the best.

BignJames (#161),

LOL.

The courtroom was silent as the military judge read the list of charges against Pvt. Lynndie England. Among them:

1. Five counts of leading naked men around by a leash without an official Dominatrix license issued by the mayor of San Francisco,

2. Three counts of piling naked men on top of each other outside the confines of an accredited Ivy League fraternity,

3. One count of repeatedly saying "Nee" until Iraqi prisoners brought her a shrubbery,

and the most heinous crime of all, an act of such inhuman brutality that it makes the Rape of Nan King look like a Sunday picnic:

4. Eleven counts of genital mocking.

[whispered]

"The horror, the horror."

Centuries before, the muslim artillery had used the Sphinx, in Egypt, for target practice.

Holy Sh*t! I never knew that. Here's a link to the real story: Sphinx damaged by Muslims, not French.

The 1m wide nose on the face is missing. It has long been presumed that the nose had been broken off by a cannon ball fired by Napoléon's soldiers. Sketches of the Sphinx by Frederick Lewis Norden made in 1737 and published in 1755 illustrate the Sphinx without a nose. However, an Arab historian from the 15th century attributes the vandalism to a Muslim fanatic in 1378. This explanation is corroborated by recent evidence which suggests that two bars, used as levers, were inserted at the base of the nose to remove it between the 10th and 15th centuries.

In school, I was taught the LIE that crass Europeans had shot the nose off, to the great dismay of the Muslims who cherished their heritage.

Everything I thought I knew was a lie! Thank you for alerting me to this, Poitiers.

You are welcome.

Evidently we have different sources, but I think (I will check) that even the so called "French" version refers to MUSLIM troops in Napoleon's Army in the Egypt campaign.

175 Jheka  Sun, May 15, 2005 9:08:36am

At what point do we make threatening "jihad" and the murder of Americans an act that we actually respond to?

I mean, they're all gathering in one place to threaten to kill us ...

This is the problem with how we've been "fighting" Islamism for the last 40 years or so ... they keep declaring war on us and we keep more or less ignoring them or giving them a hard time with immigration (occasionally) ... then, when they manage to actually hit us, we act all surprised, as if we couldn't have possibly seen it coming. It's much better now but we're still doing WAY too much reacting.

176 nonic  Sun, May 15, 2005 9:11:20am

Would it be such a BAD thing if these thugs declared war on us (again)?

Wouldn't that kinda take the handcuffs off US in fighting back?

If some self-appointed "leaders" set off a nuclear explosive on US soil, for instance (like crashing two jets into the WTC wasn't enough), would the American public still be conflicted over wiping out the bastards?

(Probably not.)

Would the liberal politicians and the totally moonbat media still be castigating the United States?

(Yes. But they wouldn't have credibility with anybody but themselves anymore.)

Last question... Does Newsweek feel dirty for being part of the islamist propaganda machine?

(Well, only if it might hurt circulation or advertising.)

So, my opinion, is, yeah, sure, fellas, DECLARE WAR.

(Good plan.)

And Newsweek, TIME, New York Times, and the rest of you, by all means, run it front page, full banner headlines.

(Then I suggest you get your f*cking asses out of the way.)

Things have been going bad for a few years now. This is not the first time the Mechistas have attacked protestors. They attacked American citizens in front of the Westwood Federal building July 4, 2000. They are taught that we stole this land from them and they have every right to take it back. They have zero respect for U.S. citizens or the U.S.A.

I would say who cares about a bunch of crazy Muslims rioting and killing each other over this grave "insult" and "desecration" of the Koran. But with the anti-American, anti-Bush sentiment of the EU and the US liberals this will probably end up in the UN with some kind of ridiculous vote to condemn the US over something that probably didn't even happen. It makes no difference that Newsweek story is admittedly false, the Muslims, the EU and the liberals will never believe us because they are so wrapped up in their anti-American insanity that it is impossible for them to see the truth. The only way for the US to make these people happy is execute every non-Muslim citizen in the US and the world. This would make them happy for about two weeks then they would start killing each other again over some other perceived "insult", and of course blame it all on the US.

Van Impe #177,

Well, actually Allah has already shown that you can "flush down the toilet" half of the Koran, and still call it a holy book. Its called abrogation, and its one more big reason why Allah, poor, hapless author that he is, can't be trusted or believed in when it comes to living up to any standard in the "infinite wisdom" department. That is why introducing even a modicum of rational thinking and debate to Muslims, in compelling them to examine and defend their texts, is a serious threat to their personal faith. This is why they'll always resort to emotional tantrums and threats.

Bordm #168,

Yesterday it was reported that Vincente Fox made a comment about American blacks, saying Mexican "immigrants" (actually, 88-90% of Mexicans living in the U.S. came here illegally) take jobs "blacks no longer want". What I want to know is what it is that makes Mexicans be given privilege over all other immigrant groups, and how it is that a president ( a corrupt bag of shit, which I would gladly tell him to his face) can presume to speak for an entire race?

Parts of southern California and south Texas already ARE a third-world hell hole. Hospitals are going broke and closing because they are overwhelmed by the crush of illegals flooding the ER’s for free treatment. The State of Texas steals money from other school districts to pay for the influx of illegals in the border schools. Some sneak across the border in the morning to go to school here, then slip back home at night. One of the reasons I moved out of Houston was because it is a sanctuary city where police are not allowed to check the status of latino’s who don’t understand a word of English. It’s a helluva mess here and getting worse every day.

"I would like to repeat that these bastards have bombed and destroyed the giant Buddhas at Bamyan."

That was a memorable instance of Islamic barbarism. I remember being struck by the fact that, after all the Taliban's savage killings -- the infamous soccer stadium of death, for example -- that it was the destruction of stone statues that finally got the world's attention, and not the mere destruction of human life. And I was especially struck by the quote from the Islamoid in the news article about the statue's destruction (bolded below):

NEW DELHI, March 3, 2001— The Great Buddhas of Bamiyan — priceless artifacts that 800 years ago survived the wrathful cannon fire of Genghis Khan — are being steadfastly destroyed bit by bit with hammers, spades and explosives, Afghanistan's Taliban militia stated officially today for the first time.
"The head and legs of the Buddha statues in Bamiyan were destroyed yesterday," Mawlawi Qudratullah Jamal, the Taliban's minister of information and culture, told reporters in Kabul, Afghanistan's capital. "Our soldiers are working hard to demolish the remaining parts. They will come down soon." He said he anticipated no difficulties: "It is easier to destroy than to build."

"It is easier to destroy than to build."

That's Islam in a nutshell.

Scene takes place in front of a mosque somewhere in Afghanistan...a UPS driver walks up to the mullah in front:
UPS Guy: koranagram for Mr Mullah...I have a koranagram for a Mr Mullah...
Mullah:(raises his hand) I am a mullah...
UPS Guy:(smiles politely) I have here a koranagram for you from the president of the United States!
Mullah:(overcome with surprise) Oh, Allah truly does favor us! Give it here!
[The UPS guy hands it over...and the mullah opens it reverently. He peers down expecting to see the writings of The Holy One, but sees a steaming pile laying in the hollowed-out pages]
Mullah:(angry shock) What is this? This is an abominal act! Jihad! Jihad against the Americans!
UPS Guy:(rolls his eyes) What...again? Can't you folks ever come up eith something different? I mean sheesh...
Scene closes as the driver walks away, leaving the mullah seething with impotent rage

Great article.
I’ve been complaining about the illegal invasion issue to anyone who would listen for over 25 years. I have some hope (but not much), now that it is finally being brought out in the open, by bloggers, the internet, Lou Dobbs (THE only show worth a damn on CNN), FOX news, Michelle Malkin and others. I pray that we have not slept so long, that we won’t be able stop this invasion without bloodshed. Unfortunately, since groups like La Raza aka the Tan Klan, whose motto is ” For those within The Race, everything; for those outside The Race, nothing”, MECha, and other believers of the Aztlan myth have been allowed to flourish and spew their hatred and lie with impunity, all I can see ahead is escalating violence. I doubt that they are going to accept that their movements are based on fiction any time soon.

I missed combat action when I was in the Marine Corps. I will spend the next 3 days gathering weapons and ammo for this holy war.
The muslims should practice yellin' "holy shit" as projectiles travel down range to the targets, them.

Do they think we will spend time quaking in our boots? What do they think we are, liberals?

Every time I begin to think that Bush is right and that there is hope for the Islamic word, some bunch of a**holes like these Afghan "clerics" open their mouths and prove us wrong.

Newsweek did this as part of their philosophy that America and the US military are always wrong (unless of course there's a Dem in the Whitehouse) and it backfired. Their response seems to be one of "well everyone makes mistakes, lets move on now."

While Newsweek's actions are reprehensible the core problem lies in Islam. This is a so-called religion that values a book more than human life; a "religion" that sees nothing wrong in killing in the name of God; a "religion" that condemns before it even begins to examine evidence; a "religion" ad nauseum.

I can confirm that the Koran WAS flushed down a toilet at Gitmo. The toilet was a 1972 IBM Executive fitted with Times New Roman font and there are photos in Mary Mapes' new book to prove it.

What kind of moron is Isakoff? someone tells him that a guard flushed a book down a toilet and it never occurs to Isakoff to ask "what they h*ll kind of toilets do they have at Gitmo?"

I think that it's at a tipping point right now. States are begining to take matters into their own hands (witness the CA proposal for a state border patrol/interior enforcement) and the multiple initiatives in Arizona.

The Minuteman Project helped, as it proved that citizens can make a difference.

Fox and Debrez are flapping their jaws about their ultimate goal (union of US and Mexico). Not too many Americans want to merge with Mexico, so please, gentlemen, keep talking! I just LOVED the way Fox managed to insult the entire african american community...

We need to get active about the McCain/Kennedy Amnesty (now there's a match made in h&*ll), keep the Minuteman Movement going, and demand that the person/persons responsible for telling the BP in Arizona to stand down after the MMP are prosecuted for opening our borders in a time of war.

I hope that you will get to see the results of your twenty five years of labor soon. I have to admit, it's still too close for comfort.

If the extremists start to escalate, they will ultimately discredit themselves and their movement. It's similar to the situation with Muslim extremism, the more bombs that go off in Iraq, or the more Imans that call for jihad over the Koran flushing rumor, the more these people will be seen for the nonrational, dangerous fanatics that they are.

How soon until some pranksters will come up with koran desecration home videos and put them on the web?!
