Saudis Deny Persecuting Christians. (Hat tip: Ethel.)

CAIRO, Egypt - A Saudi official denied allegations that the kingdom has arrested and tortured Christians, saying such actions run counter to Islamic tolerance.

The remarks to the official Saudi Press Agency came in response to reports in Iranian papers of recent arrests.

The official, who spoke to SPA on condition of anonymity, said the allegations “don’t go with the principals and values of the kingdom and above all our tolerant Islamic belief which guarantees the rights of Muslims and residents of different religions and ethnicities alike.” ...

The Washington-based watchdog group International Christian Concern, a nonprofit organization, reported last week that Saudi security and religious police have engaged in a major crackdown against Christians, saying it had received reports of 46 confirmed arrests of Christians in the wake of reports of the desecration of the Quran at the military prison camp in Guantanamo, Cuba.

Speaking of lying arabs:

Burst of Arab-Israeli Violence Shatters a Time of Calm

GANEI TAL, Gaza, June 7 - A mortar shell fired by Palestinian militants in Gaza struck a greenhouse in the Israeli settlement of Ganei Tal on Tuesday, killing three workers and wounding five more.

A wounded Palestinian worker was evacuated by Israeli military medics following a mortar explosion in Ganei Tal.

The dead were two Palestinians and a Chinese laborer, and the wounded were Palestinians from Khan Yunis, all sitting at a metal table in a greenhouse sorting fresh chives into bundles tied with rubber bands. Two were injured seriously, two moderately and one slightly. They were taken to an Israeli hospital in Beersheba for treatment.

Islamic Jihad took responsibility for the attack, calling it retaliation for the death of Palestinians, including one of its commanders, at the hands of Israeli forces.

Funny, I remember when this unfolded last night. The mortar attack had struck first and Hamas claimed responsibility, plus it was in Gaza. News of the IJ chief being killed was in Jenin and released an hour or two later.

As a former Justice Department prosecutor, John Loftus once held some of the highest security clearances in the world, with special access to NATO Cosmic, CIA codeword, and Top Secret Nuclear files. As a private attorney, he works without charge to help hundreds of intelligence agents obtain lawful permission to declassify and publish the hidden secrets of our times. He is the author of four history books, three of which have been made into films, two were international best sellers, and one was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.

Beagle-
Good point about the Saudi successsor. Yes and it is too much of a conundrum.

Timbre, ROB-
I'm a Jew who voted for W. and was on the phone banks for him on election night. I believe W turned the page on the the old antisemitism mainly because of 911.
From my previous Loftus link-

..."I stood outside a Catholic church, which faced the ghetto," Mr. Meed said, "a young Jewish boy posing as a gentile. As I watched the ghetto being bombarded by the German artillery, I could see many of the Jews of my community jumping out of windows of burning buildings. I stood long and mute." The survivor concluded his reminiscence saying, "We tremble to think what could happen if we allow a new generation to arise ignorant of the tragedy which is still shaping the future.

"President Bush, appearing almost uncomfortable, read a statement that saidthat [sic] humanity was "bound by conscience to remember what happened" and that "the record has been kept and preserved." The record, Mr. Bush stated, was that one of the worst acts of genocide in human history "came not from crude and uneducated men, but from men who regarded themselves as cultured and well schooled, modern men, forward looking. Their crime showed the world that evil can slip in and blend in amid the most civilized surroundings. In the end only conscience can stop it."...

But W is yet being influenced by the arabists at state. However, I felt that getting that past crap out into the open is a way for me too say alright, enough already. And let's get on with the Wahhabi problem and those more radical, such as Al Queda, Hizbollah, Muslim Brotherhood, etc., and the Euro enablers.

Unfortunately, presidential capital is only good for about the first two years of his final term and I don't see him leveraging enough, Especially on the recent "compromise" on the clearly unconstitutional filibustering of judges, Bolton, etc., but that's another story.

G'nite again, I have a big day tomorrow.

Dahlan: 'Israelis are trying to fool us'

Palestinian Authority Civil Affairs Minister Mohammed Dahlan on Tuesday accused Israel of failing to properly coordinate its withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and northern West Bank with the Palestinians.

Dahlan, who is in charge of coordinating the disengagement plan with Israel on behalf of the PA, met in Ramallah with US envoy William Ward and Quartet representative James Wolfenshohn and told them that Israel was refusing to hand over to the PA enough information about the areas slated for evacuation.

He warned that the PA would stop coordinating the pullout with Israel until it received maps, aerial photographs and details about the infrastructure of the settlements.

Yup, you got it. Its a trick to lure you into Gaza but you sure outsmarted us. Guess they should just call the whole disengagement off then?

Considering coordination was never part of the original plan anyways, Dahlan can go play a game of hide and go fuck himself for all I care.

Read the whole effing thing! And it's not conspiracy theory. And read this too and learn something.

..."Jack Philby and Ibn Saud betrayed the British Empire and made the American oil companies masters of the region. The man who helped them do it was Allen Dulles, an American spy who had befriended Philby while he was coordinating American intelligence gathering in the Middle East in the first half of the 1920's.
"Between them these men built the very foundations of the modern Middle East. They were the architects of the oil weapon, the instigators of war, the manipulators of history. More important, Philby's and Ibn Saud's political allegiance was to Nazi Germany, while much of Dulles's profits came from the same source.
"Unlimited by their hatred of Jews, they waged an unremitting campaign against the Zionists and, after 1948, against Israel. they fought their secret war in silence, sabotaging peace conferences, funding terrorist groups, betraying all who stood in their way. ...
"...One after another, the Western nations were induced to abandon their facade of support for Zionism and acquiesce to his demand to abandon the Jewish state. It was Philby who represented the Arab point of view in the Western capitals and who subtly sabotaged the Zionist aspirations at the Palestinian partition conferences, while pretending to befriend the Jewish leaders.
"Jack Philby was Ibn Saud's proxy in the secret war to stop Zionist immigration before World War II. Philby led the campaign to play the Nazis, the British, and the Americans against each other. He created the the oil weapon as an instument of foreign policy and made presidents and prime ministers bend to his will. He designed the Arab ultimatum: no Jews in Palestine, or no oil for the West.
"It was Dulles who delivered on the blackmail by threatening Western oil supplies at the most desperate stage of Workd War II. While paying lip service to their promise to partition Palestine into Arab and Zionist states, the West, especially the British, slowly strangled the birth of the Jewish homeland through restricted immigration, revised interpretatons, and an endless series of committees to study the future of Palestine. At a critical point in history, Jack Philby held the keys to Palestine in his hand. The gates were closed to the 6 million Jews who fell victim to the Nazis. ..."

Somehow, it's supposed to be ok if people just run their conspiracy theories here instead of posting them via the MSM.

It's not ok.

It doesn't help Israel OR America to lie about America.

Why the hell would you want to weaken Israel's only friend (even if you think America is not a good enough friend)?

Do you think Israel has superpowers lined up around the block to want to befriend Israel?

America has 5.2 million Jews here. If you weaken America, how does it help American Jews?

I'm in the process of buying a house in Israel. Spitting on America with conspiracy theories would weaken both America and Israel.

There are about 500,000 Christians living in Saudi Arabia, mostly there as servant class. This is what I read. I don't know how many slaves there are, also. I know up until the 1970's, there were reports of black slaves seen everywhere in the open throughout the Kingdom. To those of you who may be just be passing through and still somewhat unintiated about Islam, it is the single most racist ideology, as revealed by its long history, ever perpetrated upon humanity. This is a religion that was built on slavery, through its prophet. These Arab Muslims are not the poor, oppressed victims, as they would have you believe. Saudi Arabia just may have more billionaries per population than any country on earth. It probably does, considering all the wealth that resides in one family, the Saud, with its 6,000 princes. The benefits doled out annually to these people by the government are staggering.

It probably does, considering all the wealth that resides in one family, the Saud, with its 6,000 princes. The benefits doled out annually to these people by the government are staggering.

The Saud family summer vacation costs $300 million each year.

But what we have now is in a sense worse than dhimmitude. After all, we are the more powerful party. We are the ones who bestride the world like a colossus. We are the country that arrogantly or idealistically claims to be setting standards for all the nations of the earth. And yet, from our superior position of unquestioned military power and insufferable moral pretentiousness, we engage in a vicious double standard against ourselves, in which we condemn and punish our fellow Westerners for using critical language about Islam (let us remember that Americans as well as Europeans have been threatened with legal action for condemning Islam), while we reward our Muslim enemies who are openly engaged in a war of vilification and civilizational destruction against us.

America and Israel have a total of almost 11 million Jews (of the total 13-14 million Jews in the world.)

America also has another 5 million "relatives" of Jews (people who are eligible for citizenship in Israel although not actually considered to be "Jews" according to Jewish law.)

So we're talking about 16 million Jews and relatives of Jews (total) in America and Israel.

Weakening America and Israel via conspiracy theories is pretty much an attempt to commit freaking suicide, G-d forbid.

Why would anyone want to do this (anyone other than our enemies)?

There is a belief by some officials that the phrase "war on terror" is not specific enough, said a second official.
Good. I have been saying that for quite awhile.

And a third topic is finding new ways to discourage Muslim clerics from preaching hate and encouraging violence.
Once again, they will only be able to do this, if at all, by going to the roots of why the clerics preach this way in the first place. And it ain't because of poverty and racism.

Yeah, more effective garbage collection would definitely help. Every time they bring up their society, they're bogged down with "memory leaks" from hell (with all resources tied up in hating America and Israel.)

They need a permanent BSOD (blue screen of you-know-what) or else a firm halt command with no possibility of a warm or cold restart. :)

Rayra, RasR-
Before the allergy medication starts to make me drowsy --You are totally misreading or selectively reading me. Past history isn't theoretical, nor am I trying to weaken Isreal or America. On the contrary facing up to mistakes is the first step in overcoming them. And this is what I believe W is doing. And if you saw Hannity and Colmes the day before yesterday you would have heard John Loftus say the same thing in support of W.

You really need to check out some of Loftus's links which are very reliable and posted on this thread. Read his The Secret War Against the Jews which is extemely well documented of which I pasted an excerpt earlier here. It was published before W's first term, and documents the behind the scenes work of the arabists (yes, they are real -- the ones also in Europe whom Kerry was kissing up to before the election, remember?) and the spies whose work by nature is conspiratorial who don't make it into mainstream history texts. It's not an indictment of W or America which is still a republic whose private companies do business with all types of countries and companies regardless of their governments. This doesn't make us Nazis despite what the LLL or MSM think who, by the way, have been totally discredited by the recent Pew Research poll.

But if your looking for an apology, fuggedaboutit.

On the contrary, I do see President Bush learning from history - which is why I think he's making sure this time that the Paleos can't move forward with any sort of final status negotiations unless they end their terror themselves. He saw what Clinton did and the disasterous results from it.

America has definitely had individuals in the past who did things that worked out horribly for Israel, including Clinton.

All this "America did this..." and "America did that..." fingerpointing is counter-productive right now.

Trying to almost blackmail Bush with the stories of how his grandfather was part of a group of investors who were investing in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s is even more counter-productive.

The situation is difficult enough as it is.

All this whining and moaning with wild claims about Bush being under the control of (whoever) - it's being presented as part of a blizard of information from past decades (as though what's going on NOW needs no proof if you can bring up facts from 70 or 80 years ago.)

This won't help Israel.

No, I don't expect an apology.

Watching the anti-American and anti-Bush rants has become a daily part of life here at LGF.

Who needs the MSM for this anymore when we have a few individuals here who have brought the ills of the MSM right into our laps.

/I'm sick to death of it, too.

This is the BEST four-word definition of Islam I've ever seen. Whenever you see best capitalized look for the qualifier. Furthermore, it's a strong summary paragraph.

my blog

FREDERIC SPIEGELBERG
From Chapter 16: Islam and Sufism
Living Religions of the World (1956)

When in the 7th century Mohammed enunciated his creed, he did so to a society existing in a state of primitive consciousness; and one whose environment -- sunscorched, storm-wracked, and unproductive -- was an arduous one. The people who wandered over this land were a savage people united only by tribal alliance, and had no highly-developed system of ethics, social integration, or cultural expression. Mohammed understood them thoroughly, adapted his religion accordingly, and in the space of his lifetime united and transformed these vagrant peoples into an empire, chiefly by forcing them to accept a common loyalty not to the tribe or an individual, but to a national religious community. This was a nation in the Jewish sense of a group of people, rather than of a group of people in a specific geographical area. The transformation was unique; the only empire in history to be totally rooted in a religion. In Islam religion created an empire; in Christianity, an empire adopted a faith and called itself The Holy Roman Empire, which, as the old saw goes, was neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire. Whether led by Arabs, Persians, or in later times the Turks, Islam remained essentially all three, a portable theocratic state, much of whose impetus came from the fact that it was portable.

Can anyone do Islam better in four words?

92 rightasrain  Tue, Jun 7, 2005 11:48:52pm

It's not good enough to present questions as proof, either (eg, "Why would Bush do x, if not for y?" with "y" being something pretty evil or disgusting.)

The other day, I saw someone saying that it was a stretch to believe that ANYONE in Washington believes that a Paleo state would bring peace.

This person went on to say, "THEREFORE" (ie, the speculation was treated as fact without any proof whatsoever and a conclusion was drawn about the real motives - this was also treated as fact.)

This isn't how valid arguments are built.

It's just an imitation of the usual MSM smear job.

Spencer at Jihad Watch getting some ugly threats

[ reviving--islam---.--com--ed] is back, so I thought you might be interested in seeing the reaction they had to my publicizing of their death threat against me. This material was posted on the RevivingIslam forums in the three days between my posting the threat and the shutdown of their site -- a shutdown that has now proved to be temporary.

I expect that most people in this country still don't realize that there are some among us who pray such prayers and harbor such wishes. I hope that law enforcement officials are looking out for the people who posted these things, although no one has responded to my reporting of this material.

The "Jew at Jihad Watch" to which they're referring is, of course, me. I am honored by the designation, but it is erroneous, and arises from the Qur'an's depiction of the Jews as the most persistent and clever enemies of Islam.

Jew At Jihad Watch Strikes Again, Claims He's not a Member of RI

Look, one of the basic ideas of America is that you are responsible for your own actions and not those of others. Blaming Bush for what his father or grandfather may have done is anti-American.

As far as Bush and Israel goes, one of the secrets of being a good poker player, which Bush is, or a good military commander is to never let the other side know what you are going to do. I believe that Bush and the Israeli government have a plan that will increase the security of Israel in the long run. I don't have a clue what it is, but I trust Bush.

Latest GFDL says landfall just short of hurricane force near Cocodrie, LA (where I have had a flat tire (cracked sidewall) on a Sunday and drove all the way to Lafayette on a donut).

Canadian Global has an interesting prediction, a strong tropical storm or minimal hurricane that stalls offshore Tampa all weekend, which would mean incredible rains for Peninsula Florida and lots of rig evacuations eastern and central GOMEX.

UK MET Office model says weal tropical storm on Louisiana coast, Sunday instead of late saturday per GFDL.

GFS says tropical storm in Mississippi late Saturday. This means the heaviest rains miss New Orleans, as the "right" side is likely the wet side.

System still poorly organized, center probably right on coast of Honduras. NHC currently estimates the surface low is about 1004 mb, and an WC-130J or WC-130H Hercules of the USAFR 53rd Weather Reconnasaince Squadron is due in for a low level investigative mission this afternoon.

The Canadian is an outlier, with most models leaning eastern Louisiana to western Florida Panhandle.

Article in today's The New York Times here:

Last week, as evening prayers began at a Shiite mosque down the street, a suicide bomber believed to belong to a Sunni extremist group linked to Al Qaeda blew himself up inside the mosque compound, splattering his remains across the high courtyard wall.

Minutes later, a mob, believed to be led by outraged Shiites, stormed Mr. Rangoonwala's KFC outlet, dousing its floors with gasoline, setting it ablaze and then blocking the entry of rescue workers. Six hours later, the six bodies were hauled out. Four had been burned. Two had frozen to death in the walk-in freezer; their bodies were found only after a mobile phone belonging to one of the men rang. The dead had all worked at the KFC, and they were all local men in their mid-20's.

nemesis - Retributive justice in its execution or outcome

It all depends on what the definition of "tolerant", "torture" and "arrest" is. Kind of like their twisted logic that lauds killers of Israelis are "freedom fighters" while killers of Saudis by the same means are "terrorists". These statements would be comical if not so obviously part of their disinformation propaganda scheme.

Catholic Agape
I'm not going to define it. It's common for Christian organizations to use the word. I think the depth of the definition is what makes it interesting.

That's one of my favorite concepts of Catholic thought. Certainly one part of it would be the notion of "kenosis," which is found all throughout the Jewish and some Eastern religious traditions.

US office focuses on Palestinian terror

The US Department of Justice is opening an office aimed at intensifying the effort to capture and prosecute Palestinian terrorists who have killed Americans abroad.

The opening of the Office of Justice for Victims of Overseas Terrorism was mandated by the passage last December of the Koby Mandell Act, named for the 13-year-old Israeli-American boy who was killed along with a friend while spelunking in the West Bank in 2001.

The bill, which requires the US government to give equal treatment to all US citizens harmed by terrorism overseas, regardless of the terrorists' country of origin or residence, was conceived to force US authorities to pursue Palestinian murderers of Americans in Israel more actively.

Britain admits contact with Hamas

Britain has begun low-level, low-profile meetings with representatives of Hamas despite having branded the group a terrorist organization.

Foreign Minister Jack Straw confirmed there have been two meetings with members of the group's political wing who were recently elected mayors in the occupied territories.

Straw said London "faced a dilemma" following the decision by Hamas's non-military wing to participate in the elections in the Palestinian Authority.

One must beg the question:

Why would any Christian want to go to Saudi Arabia and practice their faith?

I imagine they are doing this to combat evangelism. Their was that story precious weeks after 911 and we were in Afghanistan with military, these two stupid girls got busted showing Christain videos and spreading Bibles to local tribes. They were jailed and eventually released, but I couldn't help but not feel sorry for them.

I suppose the point of this post is our tolerance levels vs. Muslim countries so I guess I am a little off topic. I still would have to say though I have no reason or desire to enter Saudi Arabia, nor would I ever go there and expect to find a church.

some punk who supposedly works in a field that predicts political discussion said that companies like Enron are going to be the MAIN issue in the '08 election. not the WoT, not the borders, not 'family values,' but enron.

the horse is dead and mutilated... stop beating it idiot.

then he goes on to 'explain' how the president doesn't care about the environment and is just leading people around on a leash.

and CNN Headline News considered this punk to be

2.) Oklahoma is considering passing a gas tax to be totally set aside for roads (apparently other gas taxes set aside for roads have been spent on education and other things)..

this lady was on the radio talking about how it'd be a good idea, and her support was that Oklahoma pays less tax on gas then nearly every other state... but she said it like its a bad thing. twit. then she went on to condemn the Truckers for screwing up the roads... saying that because they use more gas, they will finally get to pay for the damage they cause to our roads.

yes, some OK roads aren't great... but they're better than the roads in MN... at least the ones I drive on. How about we take hte money that was ALREADY supposed to go to roads and put it into road repair? (If we can't trust them with what we're already giving them, why should we trust them with more?)

Jewelry is the biggest no-brainer prezzie idea available to a man. And pearls are amazingly cheap here, even though I'm paying 2-4 times as much as a local would pay at the same place for the same thing. This isn't bad, although it doesn't come up to my still-best trip. To Bolivia (eastern). Aquamarines, citrines, amethysts, ametrines, topaz and tourmalines, all fresh off the Brazilian shield. Covered Christmas, the anniversary and all three birthdays with that one. and at a next-to-nothing cost. OK, not exactly next to nothing, but cheap. Not that they wear that jewelry a lot - the stones are too big for most occaisions. The wife has an aquamarine ring with a superbly cut stone of 11 carats. Looks like an auto headlight. Ya gotta love the Brazilian shield.

The PA media and its mosque speakers often draw a direct parallel between "the American Occupation Army in Iraq" and "the Israeli Occupation Army," strongly suggesting that both are enemies of Islam,

while the Palestinian media and text books make fun of the idea that there was ever a Jewish temple in Jerusalem.

"Members of the police began hurling the copies of the Quran in front of the eyes of the prisoners," Palestinian prisoners
said, according to VOP radio.

The truthfulness of the story, Palestinian state radio said, was

"Oh Muslims! Do you know your enemy? Isn't it obvious?"

Here is a Video of American Muslims stomping on and then ripping up an American flag. Just before they rip it up one of them places a sign on it that says, "Oh Muslims! Do you know your enemy? Isn't it obvious?"

But if we even ask how many Muslims in America think this way, CAIR will bellow about discrimination and Islamophobia. So attention is diverted from activities such as what is shown in this video, and they can continue unheeded.

Dean: Dem Poll Workers Can't Tell GOP Voters Apart
(2005-06-08) -- Many Republicans probably voted for George Bush dozens, if not hundreds, of times in 2004, according to Democrat party Chairman Howard Dean, "by taking advantage of the fact that Democrat poll workers have difficulty distinguishing individuals from among a crowd of white Christians."
374 Beagle  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 4:58:55am

Holy genetic diseases, Batman. It's common over here in the New World. Thrombophilia, right?

In white Europeans and North Americans, the FV Leiden mutation is present in approximately 5% of the general population. The mutation is rare in the rest of the world. Why should a mutation which is associated with venous thromboembolism (VTE) have spread so successfully? It is first important to note that even in subjects with the mutation fatal pulmonary embolism is more likely to occur after rather than before the individual has reproduced. Nevertheless it is tempting to speculate that the gene could have offered a selective advantage at some point in the past. Our modern way of life may have increased the risk of thrombosis and in the past the risk of fatal bleeding from post- partum hemorrhage or traumatic injury was higher than today.

This could be relevant. Holy shit.

GFDL brings minimal Cat 1 winds right into the French Quarter Saturday late afternoon!

The WC-130 Hercules is due in at 3 pm CDT this afternoon. We'll find out then if we indeed have a tropical cyclone, and with an exact center fix and intensity to feed into the models, we can expect more accurate track and intensity forecasts.

but he tok credit for an idea of mine, all the while whinning about not getting 'proper' credit for things he said he came up with. that started to turn me off...

now every point is seperated by a few minutes of talking about how great he is. I like his stories, and agree with some of his views (I was a member of the PRS... still believe in Borders, Language, and Culture)

but now he sounds more like an old man grousing than the powerful speaker I remember from a few years ago.

a LONG while back, he had a competition for ideas to get America back on track, less than 200 words.

I submitted the idea of charging mexico a barrel of oil per illegal we find, then went on to explain how that might finally get Mexico to get on track with keeping a hold of its citizens, since we weren't going to increase border security anytime soon.

not 6 weeks later, he 'came up' with his 'new plan' to charge mexico a barrel of oil per illegal he gets.

AI! :) You sort of know! You send me your address and I'll send you a little bag of grits for you to try. :) They are a corn product. I don't know if they are kosher or not, should anyone wonder. ( Where was my kosher lesson I requested? :) )

They also make instant grits, which aren't too bad, but nothing like the real thing. But, we ususally make the instant ones, cause it's just so much easier and faster. You have to eat them with either butter, cheese, or bacon bits.

Me though, I like to put my breakfast into a bowl of grits. Yep. Just dump in the scrambled eggs, bacon(turkey bacon, sausage whatever) and crumble up my cat-head and there ya go! :) heheheee
A "cat-head" biscuit is also called a "drop-biscuit" in some parts. It's a biscuit batter of sorts, dropped by large spoon, into a pan. If you make em big enough, they sometimes resemble a cat's head. :)

I have a pack of grits with your name on it. :) Heck, for that matter, any of you LGF'rs that want to try grits, just gimme a holler and I'll mail you a pack. Then, maybe you could send me some little local thing that you like to eat!

Hi Ralph

490 Dirk Diggler  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 5:41:19am

Here's a shocker. An ABC NEWS-Washington Post "poll" that finds that Americans have taken a dim view of the Iraq war...

Nearly three-quarters of Americans say the number of casualties in Iraq is unacceptable, while two-thirds say the U.S. military there is bogged down and nearly six in 10 say the war was not worth fighting -- in all three cases matching or exceeding the highest levels of pessimism yet recorded. More than four in 10 believe the U.S. presence in Iraq is becoming analogous to the experience in Vietnam.

Perhaps most ominous for President Bush, 52 percent said war in Iraq has not contributed to the long-term security of the United States, while 47 percent said it has. It was the first time a majority of Americans disagreed with the central notion Bush has offered to build support for war: that the fight there will make Americans safer from terrorists at home.

"Dim" is the appropriate work to describe the respondents in these polls. Several of them are totally clueless. It's a good thing this president is not governed by polls.

That is the view of poll respondent Margaret Boudreaux, 63, a casino worker living in Oakdale, La. "I don't think it's going well -- there's too much killing," she said, worrying that the Iraq invasion could move more enemies to violence. "I think that some of the people, if they could, would get revenge for what we've done."

I see as opposed to before the Iraq war, when Muslim fanatics everywhere loved us and we were safe abroad and secure at home.

"You hear a lot about Saddam but nothing about Osama bin Laden. I don't think he [Bush] does enough to deal with the problems of terrorism. . . . He's done a lot of talking, but we haven't seen real changes," said another poll respondent, Kathy Goyette, 54, a San Diego nurse."People are getting through airport security with things that are unbelievable. . . . I don't think he learned from 9/11."

Airport security is now solely the responsibility of the President? The only thing I I've heard about Saddam lately is that he's about to be tried by the democratically elected government of Iraq. That and the fact that he prefers briefs.

The future Tropical Cyclone Arlene looks to be more rain and wind, and unless the Canadian is correct (stalled just offshore Tampa for almost 3 days) even the rain shouldn't average more than about 15 centimeters.

Even the GFDL Cat 1 worst case does only moderate wind damage in NOLA.

Remember, with relatively weak storms like this, most of the rain and tornado action is to the right side of the landfall point (east side for a northbound storm).

Female Orgasm Is In The Genes

The research suggests evidence that the female orgasm is an evolutionary tool for mate-selection. Women who have a difficult time achieving climax in bed may be weeding out bad lovers, therefore weeding out potentially poor long-term mates.

I doubt the Saudi entity has anything on GWB.

However, GWB may fear anything that further destabilizes the Tragic Kingdom, which just happens to be the #1 supplier of oil to the world, and it doesn't matter whether we get more oil from other places, as a disruption to Saudi supplies mean the buyers would start bidding up our foreign oil.

Nor can GWB just invade Fraudi Arabia, unless he wants a billion Muslims from Seattle to Karachi literally ready to explode. Although I think that should be held as a last measure.

I worry more about the seeming inaction in regards to Iran and its nuclear bomb. Once they have a credible theatre nuclear deterrent, they can create a lot of mischief in the region with limited fear of American reprisals. I suppose the US might risk a nuclear exchange with Iran if they flat out invaded the Saudi entity (yes, I know we'd turn Iran to shiny black glass, but perhaps not before Saudi oil supplies are gone for a decade), but short of that, they could be very bad players and get away with a lot.

Heyoka

A Lakota way of being, a medicine way. A Heyoka is one who does things backwards or opposite. The idea that Heyoka is a sacred clown comes from the opposite behavior; it is part of the medicine of Heyoka, to remind us we are merely human beings and not to become too serious about ourselves, not to imagine we are more powerful than we really are, reminding us that Spirit holds all the power. In this day there are those among the Lakota who pour Heyoka lodges, which are directed towards the West and full of laughter. If a Heyoka man messes up he has the Thunder Nation to deal with. Spirit chooses who is Heyoka; it is a very difficult path to follow.

I attributed the Cecil Adams link to ReligionofBacon which I abbreviated as ROB in my last comment. Putting aside the inconsequential minutae, you are either reading-challenged or you are deliberately taking my statements out of context.

You wrote a comment that wrongly attributed a quote to me and you're still weaseling out of it.

A "my mistake" with a correction is as impossible for you as it was for CBS and Dan Rather.

This is what you wrote in #510 that you will never be willing to admit here was wrong:

RightasRain @ 12

If W continues to remain silent about this, then the House of Saud must have compromising photos of him in college with a sheep or something.

& @ 92

This isn't how valid arguments are built. It's just an imitation of the usual MSM smear job.

Nice self-fisking job, RasR.

Now, weasel some more.

Elvis, objective truth is a rough deal.

Dan Rather found out the hard way, and now you've found out, too.

It's not humiliating to go back to ones comments to correct mistakes.

Charles' reputation for honestly is based on his absolute determination to correct stories that he finds were incorrect in some way.

He places an update with the corrections (even if the correction favors people or groups that are unpopular here at LGF.)

It's a matter of character.

That's what Charles has created at LGF.

It's something worth trying to preserve.

Yep, that worked quite well in one of the communist countries...which one was that?...Soviet Union..nope, that's not it. Maybe China?...don't think that's it either...hmmm, eastern Europe?...nope...

These socialists/communists don't underestand that there is no 'incentive to produce' in economies that do significant wealth redistribution...seems obvious to me...they just don't get it (or don't care if it gets them more power).

749 rightasrain  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 9:48:59am

Lance, isn't it true that one can build in island in a kitchen without necessarily including a sink in it (and still have it work out well)?

I'd like an island, but no sink in it.

Workable?

Thanks!

750 rightasrain  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 9:49:26am

...one can build AN island...

751 rightasrain  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 9:55:12am

My thinking on this is that I think there's enough room for an island and that it would be very useful - but I don't want to go through the plumbing move to get a sink on the island when it's not really a primary need of mine.

I would just as soon have an island without a sink.

754 rightasrain  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 10:03:15am

American Infidel, do you think a split level island (where the side closest to the kitchen is lower than the side where people sit) would work out well?

I'm honestly thinking about these things right now.

I'm heading over to look at the place in Israel and I need to know what I want to measure, etc.

Thanks!

755 lancekates  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 10:07:52am

#749 Rightasrain

well, yeah. just depends on where.

I've seen big kitchens that had a center island put in to cut down on the triangle...

some have Islands that function as a make-shift kitchen table for normal eating (as compared to having company over)

Did one for someone who likes to watch cooking shows on tape and cook what they made... designed an island for her with an electrical outlet (protected and such) so she could have her little tv/vcr combo.

756 lancekates  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 10:11:27am

#754 rightasrain

what you'd want to do is measure the distance from cabinet to cabinet, to get the dimensions of free space in your kitchen.

then, if Israeli dimensions match ours, subtract about 30 to 33 inches for the depth of an island. (and however many feet in length you want... normally 3 to 6 feet)

take the number you have left. this is your total free space with an island.

if you divide it by 2, you can see how much room you'd have on either side of that island. if its less than 3 feet, I'd rethink the island. but I'm sure I could come up with something that'd work for you.

757 rightasrain  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 10:12:14am

Lancekates, the kitchen is currently a bit small because the owners put up a wall to block an area that has a door to the outside.

I want to take down this wall - I don't mind a door to the outside way over on one side of the kitchen (there's also a window near the sink.)

This will make the kitchen seem wide, though, so I think an island would help to break it up a bit.

An electrical outlet on the island would be nice - I just don't really think I need a sink there.

P.S. I need to review the whole "triangle" concept.

P.S. I need to review the whole "triangle" concept.

its the distance from your fridge to your sink/prep area to your oven.

but I ignore that and use a "square" method... because your sink is not always your prep area.

but you want to kee your triangle down to around 20 feet or so. (perimeter)

you can get a basin that's decorative... no drain. it sits in place with a lip, and you can use it to soak things (marination, etc) or you can fill it with water and use it to rinse veggies.

then when you're done, you pull it out and dump it in the sink, then replace it.

some look REALLY nice... and they're good for an island for prep area, when you can't move a sink.

In the week of Passover, we have to cover our countertops (unless we have a second kitchen used only for Passover.)

It can be a hassle to cover the counters.

This last Passover, though, I went to someone's house and saw a really neat idea.

They built fitted cardboard covers for their countertops with nice contac paper on them (very pretty) - they have these waiting every year to put down on the counters without any other muss or fuss.

During the year, they store these false countertops elsewhere.

What a great idea!

Kyle: No, he's talking about "fuck". You can't say "fuck" in school, you fucking fat-ass!
Cartman: Why the fuck not?
Mr. Garrison: Eric!
Stan: Dude, you just said "fuck" again!
Mr. Garrison: Stanley!
Kenny: Fuck!
Mr. Garrison: Kenny!
Cartman: What's the big deal? It doesn't hurt anybody. Fuck-fuckety-fuck-fuck-fuck.
Mr. Garrison: How would you like to go see the school councelor?
Cartman: How would you like to suck my balls?
Mr. Garrison: What did you say?
Cartman: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Actually, what I said was... [picks up a megaphone] HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO SUCK MY BALLS?
Stan: Holy shit, dude.

#845 rightasrain,

George Carlin once said that if men could lick their own nuts - they'd never leave the house. :)

Classic liberal projection.

South Park Reference. eric cartman is the fat kid who's evil. Mr. Garrison is his teacher, who eventually figures out that he's gay.

even gets a sex change operation, then reverts back when he found out that he can't get pregnant (after assuming that he was)

Classic liberal projection.

Quite true. I thought it was self-deprecating humor at the time, but George Carlin makes other liberals look like Rush Limbaugh. :/

well, they're city workers... zoning commission. or planning and devleopment, I forget the offical title... too many cities.

NJ are the worst that I've had to deal with thusfar.

863 elvis  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 11:55:45am

Lancekates @ 827-

That's kind of a long rant for someone who says they don't care. Also the Nodrog, M. Jackson, and Saddam referrences belie your intent.

The phony argument that I am wrong based on a clerical mistake is childish. I stand by everything that I have said.

Mr. Garrison.

Cartman is just vulgar.

get a "V-chip" implanted into his head that shocks him every time he swears... which came in handy when Satan (and his lover Saddam Hussein) came up to destroy everything during the American War with Canada... but they took it out.

(the carton is based on reality, obviously)

866 Peacekeeper  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 11:58:14am

Actually Loppy it's guy humor. You wouldn't understand. (ducks)

that's why we're telling you to shut up and go away.

I was just being nice, and pointing out that no one cares.

doesn't matter if you're right... doesn't matter if you're wrong.

there's a crude line I heard once that I don't like to use, but applies too well to this bit you're holding up.

"Arguing over the internet is like entering the special olympics... you might win, but you're still retarded."

(that being said... I have 2 mentally retarded family members, and 2 crippled family members... so stow the "you're insensitive" bit before you start it)

Settle down, Elvis wants to chase that car, it's his perogative. Now I am going and I suggest you do so as well.

871 eschew_obfuscation  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 12:01:56pm

Obviously, I don't mind some strong language when it serves the interests of humor, but I would suggest staying away from "Team America, World Police" (new movie by the South Park creators using marionettes) unless you have a very strong stomach for it.

I thought there were a handful of funny bits, but most of it was just vulgar and not funny...

...but that's just my opinion...

872 rightasrain  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 12:02:15pm

The only South Park episode I've ever seen is the one that made fun of Wade Churchill (with hippies all over South Park that needed to be stormed out.)

Cartman was the good guy in this one - he knew the hippies from the Univ of Colorado were dangerous and he was arrested for capturing some and storing them in his basement. :)

They were let loose and got out of control, of course (with a free music festival or something.)

Cartman went to the rescue to help South Park rid themselves of these pests. Cartman played unhip music, I think.

Anyway - I honestly didn't know Cartman was evil.

I have seen a lot of South Park, THAT episode is the BEST, (Die Hippie Die!). Unfortunately this means you will never see another as good. Although the episode where they get a trip to the Rain Forest and decide it sucks is a close second place.

I was fond of the one where Cartman leads the "south" to rise up against the "north" so that stan and kyle will have to be his slaves...

actually... I like almost all of them.

though I like them earlier in the evening, when they have the REAL bad language beeped out... for some reason that's funnier to me.

hmm... Walmart normally has cheap dvd players... I've even seen them around 45 to 50 dollars (of course, you normally get what you pay for.)

I actually bought my TV/VCR/DVD combo unit at Home Depot (of all places to buy a tv)... they had a special buy on them. decent size... pretty cheap.

Rayra-Same to you with a Trencor. But I guess blaming the messenger for news that you don't like is ok. You can take your head out of your ass now. Care to make it an even 900?

901 rightasrain  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 7:58:59pm

More weaseling.

Rayra quoted your words, not someone else's.

You wouldn't be a messenger for these words unless you were speaking for another one of your personalities.

902 elvis  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 8:03:57pm

RasR-If they made a Trencor strap-on model you could give Rayra the time of his life. Fuck off you lying pieces of shit.

903 rightasrain  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 8:19:16pm

Elvis, I know I toyed with you too hard earlier and broke you.

You wrote nothing in LGF at all for seven hours until Rayra came along (and then it only took you some minutes to respond to him.)

I have this awful feeling that you were stewing for seven hours waiting. Just waiting.

Not good.

It's not the end of the world, though.

Please repair soon - I won't fight you again.

904 rightasrain  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 8:20:57pm

Elvis, I just realized what your newest comment to me meant.

You're a very nasty little boy.

Don't repair so soon after all.

905 elvis  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 8:39:22pm

RasR- For someone with such a pretentious handle you sure can be wrong most of the time.
Not that it matters, but I was watching UCLA/Michigan Girls' College World Series which was one of the best games I have ever seen in any league at any time. Since the Red Sox/Cards were on a rain delay I got to see most of it afterwards. So it's really been a great evening despite your lunatic ravings.

906 rightasrain  Wed, Jun 8, 2005 8:46:26pm

Actually, my nic is a pun on being right wing.

rightwingasrain just didn't have the same snap to it. :)
