-RetweetHamas Bans Music Festival in West Bank

Fri, Jul 1, 2005 at 3:02:30 pm PDT

The people of Qalqilya voted for Hamas. Now they start to see what it means: Hamas council bans music festival. (Hat tip: Ethel.)

A Hamas-led town council in the West Bank has banned outdoor music and dance performances planned as part of a summertime Palestinian festival.

A Qalqilya council spokesman said it was partly to avoid damaging the grass. [Uh huh. —ed.]

But he also said the council had been elected to protect the conservative values of the city, which included not approving of men and women mixing.

In May the militant Hamas won the West Bank town’s elections, ousting the mainstream Fatah party.

Outdoor plays and concerts are being held across the West Bank this month as part of the Palestine International Festival.

“We were elected by a segment of people that wants us to preserve the conservative values of the city,” council spokesman Mustafa Sabri told Reuters. “The prevailing values reject mixing of the sexes. The people of Qalqilya have praised our move.”

I am at this moment listening to Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli.

In the TIME Mag article, in the "Inside the Mind of a Suicide Bomber," the kook terrorist says he longs for the day when islam rules and there is no alcohol and no music worldwide.

Uh huh.

(I am at this moment drinking wine, too.)

Those people have no souls.

Well, if they keep to that policy, we can figure that Hamas will cease to exist in one generation. No "mixing", no more kids to blow themselves up. I'm all in favor of that!

8 Van Impe  Fri, Jul 1, 2005 1:11:59pm

No music, not even "Throw the Jew Down the Well" by Borat on the Ali G. Show.

Hamas could say:

"We could let you hear music, but then we'd have to kill you."

And they'd mean it! :)

By "grass" he means the stash he has in his hollowed-out Koran. He's afraid that if there's a party, everyone will use up his weed.

Although visual and performing arts will be banned entirely when Shariah is fully implemented, that doesn't mean that public entertainment will disappear altogether. Islamic "fun" will be officially sanctioned. The Palestinians can look forward to regular state sponsored public spectacles such as sawing off the heads of murderers and apostates, stoning of "prostitutes", amputation of limbs from thieves, and the odd flogging and bastinados. On special occasions such as during holy months, there may even be firing squads to liven up the holidays.

35 Cartman  Fri, Jul 1, 2005 1:40:50pm

How extremely pathetic to choose to live a life virtually devoid of any real joy or happiness. It is a gross understatement to say that when a human being on this planet finds true meaning in life by inflicting humiliation, pain and death that there is a huge metaphysical disconnect taking place. With the notable exception of Islam, virtually all other spirituality-based doctrines known to mankind encourage the concepts of reverence for the gift of life, and fulfillment through enjoyment of its' blessings and treasures. How skewed and misdirected can a belief system possibly be that promotes misery, suffering and subjugation. Truly, a false prophet delivered a flawed and erroneous message of faith.

Hamas Bans Music Festival in West Bank

They are the ones with power after all.

From JTA and requires a simple registration.
As costs of peace process rise...

Ward departed from a long-standing demand that the United States shared with Israel: that the Palestinians immediately fulfill commitments to disarm terrorist groups and arrest fugitives. Instead, he cautiously endorsed P.A. President Mahmoud Abbas’ policy of co-opting armed members of terrorist groups into the Palestinian armed forces.

Israel has hesitated to fulfill some recent agreements because of Abbas’ unwillingness to arrest fugitives and disarm terrorists. However, in recent days — and apparently under U.S. pressure — it has agreed to accelerate the handover of more West Bank cities to P.A. control.

Funny OT... I always love to wander around DU reading the insanity. actually every day just seems to blur together, Bush Lied, DSM, MIHOP/LIHOP, Haliburton blah blah blah.

So today they posted "We're looking for 500 committed DUers for the DU Activist Corps" at the top of the Latest Breaking News Forum, while reading it I came upon this little tidbit

"We start in a good position, because we've got thousands of people here every day -- somewhere in the neighborhood of 40,000 people visit Democratic Underground on a typical day"

So the "Premiere" (as they bill themselves) "Democrat/Liberal/Progressive" only manages to get less then 2/3 of the readership of LGF... and it doesn't mention if those are Unique or Total, if it was Total it would be less then 1/2 of LGF.

No wonder they won't post their numbers... but someone screwed up.

This decision is kind of weird, because Hamas members in America dance and sing:

Former City Engineer Lived Secret Double Life as Singer, Actor at Hamas Fundraisers

It’s hard to imagine that Mufid Abdulqader is the same man on stage wearing a traditional Palestinian Kafiyeh and desert robe, singing with gusto to a large admiring audience.

The naturalized U.S. citizen belting out the Arabic language tune tune while wearing traditional grab had, for more than eight years, worked by day for the city of Dallas in the mild-mannered field of civil engineering. He held a masters degree, had wife, kids, a mortgage and professional respect from colleagues and from the city’s top leaders for his work.

It’s even harder to imagine that this professionally accomplished, highly affable public servant by day, was on weekends singing the praises of the terrorist organization Hamas, encouraging martyrs to kill Jews and glorifying violent Jihad.

“Our people in Al Aqsa are out to revenge, to destroy the enemy; our revolution is spread throughout the land!” Abdulqader sang. “With Quran and Jihad, we will gain our homes back, hey, hey, hey! My precioius eyes are for Palestine, the agony of death is preciouis killing Jews...Death to Jews is precious. Jews will not fear threats, only action, so Hamas, hit them with the shoe bottoms of Islam and Hamas!

Other lyrics decry all peace negotiations with Israel and press instead for relentless war.

"No to the peace conference!" one tune included. "Yes to Jihad!"

Mufid Abdulqader no longer works for the city. He was fired in August after the federal government indicted him and six other Palestinian men for allegedly helping the Richardson-based Holy Land Foundation funnel money to Hamas, illegal since the U.S. designated it a terrorist organization in 1995. President Bush and federal courts have declared the Holy Land Foundation a front charity that has helped Hamas suicide attackers kill hundreds of civilian Israelis and ten Americans between 1989 and the foundation's December 2001 closure.

AND in my opinion, they could learn to love animals as well. What kind of people hate dogs..not just don't like dogs, but HATE dogs? They hang Dogs in Iraq. (Im so delighted Im paying for these people to have a "Democracy")

So -- No Music, No Art, No Dance, No Sex, No Love of a Pet, No Jokes or Laughing, NO to alot of joyous things. Poetry isnt enough to carry joy in a society. What a sorry society.

Of course there is joy in their society. Joy of killing! Expecially Jews. You're just not being multicultural.

So -- No Music, No Art, No Dance, No Sex, No Love of a Pet, No Jokes or Laughing, NO to alot of joyous things. Poetry isnt enough to carry joy in a society. What a sorry society.

Perhaps they are "turning japanese?"

No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women
No fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it's dark
Everyone around me is a total stranger
Everyone avoids me like a cyclone ranger
Everyone

That's why I'm turning Japanese I think I'm turning Japanese I
really think so
