Taliban ‘Spokesman’: U.S. Commando Killed.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - A purported Taliban spokesman said Saturday that the group has beheaded a missing American commando, but he offered no proof and the U.S. military said it was still searching for the Navy SEAL.

The commando is the last of a four-member elite commando team missing since June 28 in Kunar, near the Pakistani border. One of the men was rescued and the other two were found dead.

“This morning in Shagal district in Kunar province, the Taliban killed the American soldier and cut his head off,” Mullah Latif Hakimi, the purported spokesman, told The Associated Press in a telephone call. “We left the body on a mountainside in this area so Afghan or U.S. soldiers there can find it.”

Hakimi repeatedly has said the rebels were holding the commando. But information from him in the past has frequently proven exaggerated or untrue, and his exact tie to the Taliban leadership cannot be independently verified.

U.S. military spokesman Lt. Col. Jerry O’Hara said the search for the commando continued. “The only proof we have is that he is missing,” he said. “We will run down these reports to see if anything thing pans out.”

I find it hard to believe that an Islamist would exaggerate or lie, esp. about battlefield successes.

Marines launch new raid against Iraq insurgent

U.S. Marines said on Saturday they had launched a new counter-insurgency operation, the latest in a series of sweeps designed to root out militant bases in Iraq's Euphrates valley.

Operation Scimitar involved about 500 U.S. troops and 100 Iraqis, making it about half the scale of Operation Sword and Operation Spear in the past three weeks.

If they do find our Navy SEAL, in the condition described by this 'jaspan', then I can only wish the fires of Hell to sweep across the land where these monsters live.
No retribution can be too severe for their cruelty and barbarity, and in my heart, they cannot suffer enough. Feed them to the pigs!

12 Van Impe  Sat, Jul 9, 2005 2:04:33pm

I don't believe the story. As good muslims they would follow Mohammed's example and hold the SEAL hostage first. Only after their demands were not met would they kill him - it's the muslim way.

If this is true, I would scrape up every last soldier and Marine who is not fighting elsewhere, every bounty-hunter and mercenary we can hire, and every physically fit volunteer, and land them in the mountains with orders to hunt down every last jihadi and cut its head off in full view of any media beasts who have not already fled.

I would carpet-bomb the Pakistani hideouts. I would use poison gas and napalm to drive them from their holes and slaughter them like sheep, NO prisoners, and tell Mush-head the Hindu-killer to get stuffed.
I would shoot 100 Gitmo inmates as a reprisal, and impale their heads on the fence for the edification of Castro and European tourists, then mitigate the uproar by including 2 or 3 of the traitors who agitate for their freedom.

I would land an inert JDAM in the courtyard of the Grand Mosque, with a note attached indicating that this is a final warning.

Only after their demands were not met would they kill him - it's the muslim way.

They must not have had a camcorder or any other recording equipment nearby. That's the only reason I can think of that this "beheading" was not recorded (unless, they never had this SEAL held captive in the first place).

23 BoghRD  Sat, Jul 9, 2005 2:17:22pm

If the Islamoturds have been able to do as they say I think there will be harsh justice.

There is no media in the area!

24 Shiplord Kirel  Sat, Jul 9, 2005 2:22:58pm

There is good reason to doubt that this is true. As mentioned, there has been a completely atypical lack of either ritualized demands or the obligatory video tape.
The Talib jaspan has not identified the captive by name, which would also indicate that they haven't even found his body if he is dead.

If it is true though...

25 foreign devil  Sat, Jul 9, 2005 2:23:37pm

Again, there should be no reprisal against innocent Muslims or those who are only peripherally involved.
If we count media sympathizers and high-profile fifth columnists, imans, and enablers, however, there is no shortage of the guilty. I really think somebody should get to work on them now.

28 Shiplord Kirel  Sat, Jul 9, 2005 2:28:18pm

A prediction: There will be a shortage of prisoners from this area for some time to come.

29 no2liberals  Sat, Jul 9, 2005 2:31:28pm

To several of you, yes there is reason to doubt. However, there are several things to consider, until our SEAL is found. These are Taliban, not Al Q's, reporting this, they can't make any demand's, all they want is intel. Also, even if they did have video equipment and demands, or propaganda value to be gained, I seriously doubt our SEAL would voluntarily read a statement, and wait for his murder. Remember the Italian that refused to die like a sheep, Al Jazeera would not show the video, no propaganda value.

Drudge has an interesting story related to this:

Downed US Seals may have gotten too close to Bin Laden

Interesting excerpts:

Yet whatever the final death toll from the worst incident in the history of the Seals — the Sea Air Land Commandos — there were tantalising hints that the original mission had been far from routine.

According to former special forces officers and other military sources, the four-man Seal strike team may have come too close to one of the US-led coalition’s highest-priority targets — perhaps Mullah Muhammad Omar, the former Taliban leader, or even Osama Bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda. Other military sources suggested the target was a regional Taliban commander suspected of links with Al-Qaeda...

“Its insertion represented an extraordinary risk,” said the author of an influential military blog known as Wretchard. “They would be operating in an area known to be a stronghold of the Taliban, where any contact with the enemy automatically meant they would be grossly overmatched.”

Another source noted that Murphy’s unit bore all the hallmarks of a long-range sniper team sent to hunt down a particular target. US Navy Seals are trained to spend long periods operating clandestinely.

“The fact that the US did not send in several hundred troops for a sweep instead of the four-man recon team strongly suggests the team’s mission was to fix a very high target before it could flee from an airmobile assault,” Wretchard said.

I think Wrechard is right. I believe that Bin Laden or Mullah Omar was the target. And the Seals dropped right onto the Vipers Nest, and got severely attacked. If the Seal wasn't killed in the initial firefight, he was seriously wounded and probably executed afterwards, consistent with al Qaeda's claim.

The upside to this story is, they cannot hide forever. Their time is coming, and the clock is ticking.

Berlusconi announces troop withdrawal

Premier Silvio Berlusconi said Friday* that Italy would begin withdrawing 300 troops from Italy’s 3,000-strong contingent in Iraq, but denied the withdrawal was linked to any terrorist threats against Italy. He had previously said he hoped to begin withdrawing troops by September, though officials later pushed the date back to early 2006.

Berlusconi is a staunch ally of President Bush and sent about 3,000 troops to Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein to help rebuild the country. Italy also has about 910 troops in Afghanistan.

(3) Kissing Musharraf's ass...

We are way overdue to blow that Pakistan/Afghanistan border to hell. I guarantee you some of this crap would stop and we'd be a whole lot better off if we strafed that entire "wild border" with a whole lot more fire power than we've used so far. I'm talking a massive display of force of which only the U.S. Military can perform.

Once again, it is the media blending the information in such a way as to be anti-GWOT.

Here is the skinny:
Italy is thinking about withdrawing 300 of 3,000 existing troops.

Scary, nope:
The United States has withdrawn 20,000 Marines and Soldiers from Iraq over the past four months.

We, and our allies, will be drawing down our troop strength as the indiginous forces grow and improve. That is exactly what Bush said he would do.

Global consensus needed to defeat terrorism
Mr. Bean, speaks

"Terrorism can only be defeated by a collective response on the part of the international community. In pursuing their criminal cause, (straight from a john kerry script) terrorists do not hesitate to abuse the multiple possibilities afforded by today’s world and its technologies to spread their ideology of death and to move quickly the information, people and objects they require to carry out their crimes.
Terrorism has thus become a global threat that requires a global response."

66 johnCV  Sat, Jul 9, 2005 3:31:41pm

Slightly OT

In March last year, al-Qa'ida released targeting advice, saying: "We have to target Jews and Christians. We have to let anybody that fights God, his prophet or the believers know that we will be killing them. There should be no limits and no geographical borders. We have to turn the land of the infidels into hell as they have done to the lands of the Muslims." Jews were named as the priority human targets followed by Christians. The Christian order of importance by country was American, British, Spanish, Australian, Canadian and Italian.

In September 2002 al-Qa'ida spokesman Suleiman Abu Gheith said: "We have the right to kill four million Americans - two million of them children - and to exile twice as many and wound and cripple hundreds of thousands. It is our right to fight them with chemical and biological weapons."

Some please expalin to me why I should not believe all moslems stand behind this statement. There has been no 'fatwa' issued against bin laden, zarqawi et.al. (this is the big stick they use, is it not?) If they we serious, a fatwah seem the least that could be done from the moslem side.

Drudge Story

Now that Drudge has broken it, I suppose it is ok to reveal that Charles has been sitting on this story for almost a week.
I e-mailed him last Sunday to share a report from a personal source that the missing SEAL team had in fact been after bin Laden.
We agreed that this should be withheld until the whole team had been accounted for. I also informed a couple of highly trusted lizardoids of the same report.
My source also reported that there is reason to hope that the sniper team was successful, but the command in Kabul does not have definitive proof.
This is what I was referring to in my many references to "loose-lips" in relation to this story.

Those men will be remembered... Forever...

All in a day's work, though Thursday was a little busier than usual, unfortunately.

Now we wait for them to pop up again, and get a better fix on the who, what and where of the people behind the site.

Hi, Rubicon.

Read the Koran. Unabridged version. Then get back to us.

BTW, the religion is not a "race." Try that meme on the uninformed, please.

Hi! Been posting here long?

This is nothing more than a pathetic attempt to smear and demonize an entire religion and an entire race of people for the actions of a few extremists, who by their actions, are not at all religious.

Funny that, they, the 'terrorists', seem VERY religious. By their own words, THEY claim to be religious, and muslims at that. Who are YOU to declare otherwise? Who do you think you are to declare that someone cannot possibly kill as many fucking 'others' in the name of their own religion?

Also, tell me, racist, when did islam become a race? far as I know only muslims consider 'muslim' to be a race.

Welcome to LGF. Your comments and insight are greatly appreciated.

Oh come on Rubicon,
The head hackers believe they are acting according to their religion, and millions of good Muslims agree. It's not like they are boosting cars for money. It's jsut like the old Communist defence :don't judget this beautiful systems just because of a Stalin, Mao, or Kim or two!
