Ann Coulter writes;

Mission Implausible

Karl Rove was right. The real story about Joseph C. Wilson IV was not that Bush lied about Saddam seeking uranium in Africa; the story was Clown Wilson and his paper-pusher wife, Valerie Plame. By foisting their fantasies of themselves on the country, these two have instigated a massive criminal investigation, the result of which is: The only person who has demonstrably lied and possibly broken the law is Joseph Wilson.

So the obvious solution is to fire Karl Rove. . .

London Can Take It - Hitch

But another reflection now deposes the preceding one. In 2001 there was an enemy to hit back at, and some business to conclude with the Taliban. Since then, there has been unfinished business with Saddam Hussein and his notorious fedayeen. But from now on, we must increasingly confront the fact that the war within Islam is also a war within Europe. It's highly probable that the assassins of 7 July are British born, as were several Taliban fighters in the first round in Afghanistan. And the mirror image also exists. Many Muslims take the side of civilization and many European fascists and Communists are sympathetic to jihad.

These are not the bright, clear lines that many people fondly imagine to be heritable from a heroic past. But the nature of the enemy is somewhat similar. Like the fascists that they are, the murderers boast that they love death more than we love life. They imagine that this yell of unreason is intimidating and impressive. We shall undoubtedly go forward and put these grave matters to the proof but, meanwhile: Death to them and Long Live London!

Can/Will London Dish it out? - Me

Charles post from the Guardian yesterday and their op-ed's harping on Iraq today show how divorced from the details much of the mainstream press has become. Presumably they oppose the elected government of Iraq in power today. The Guardian isn't clear on specifics.

Yesterday a Sunni suicide car-bomber killed a Marine and dozens of children in a majority Shiite area. Infants were injured. When will the Left come to grips with the fact their beloved insurgents are trying to start a civil war not a civil government?

so I get two phone calls from her while I'm on the phone with a town in NY.

I quickly call her back, thinking something happened to my dad's heart (which has been in bad shape lately). . .

what's she calling for? "hey lance... our company is making care packages for the troops, and it says on this list that one item they'd want would be comic books... Do you think you'd want to donate them?"

BANGKOK, Thailand - Suspected Muslim separatists staged a twilight raid Thursday on a provincial capital in southern Thailand, setting off bombs and engaging in gun battles with security personnel, injuring 14 people, police said...
Thailand has been facing an escalating insurgency in its Muslim-dominated southern provinces since January 2004. About 900 people have been killed in violence in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat provinces blamed on Islamic separatists.

They can call them "separatists", they can call them, absurdly, "insurgents", but they can't use the T word.

We need to drive the story of the Iranian Journalist Akbar Ganji to the Am people and the free world.

Sorry folks couldn't bare to miss this op to post this e I just sent to the WSJ re the brave Iranian journalist rotting in an Iranian prison in his attempt to catch the attention of the world to the struggle of the Iranian poeple for freedom from the tyrannical Islamofascist ruling theocracy.

***
Subject: MUST READ - Re Akbar Ganji (Iranian Journalist)

We need to drive the story of the Iranian Journalist Akbar Ganji to the Am people and the free world.

Dear Mr. Taranto,

The WSJ is one of the few places in the MSM that seems to get it and what is relevant in the world today. Keep up the good work.

Most of your other MSM colleagues are lost in "The Abyss," I'm sorry to report.

We need your help, PLEASE!

In the favorite phrase of Dr. Michael Ledeen, "FASTER, FASTER, PLEASE, and now!"

We need to drive the story of the Iranian Journalist Akbar Ganji to the American people and the free world. The MSM is ignoring this story. Mr. Ganji is heads above what now represents the White House Press Corps and for that matter a majority of other reporters too. Not entirely their fault as most MSM will not pay for great investigative reporters anymore. Doesn't meet the current model of Infotainment.

I'm sorry the paradigm is shifting. In the meantime we could use the help of the MSM to deliver a crushing and fatal blow to the enemy in the GWOT and not "root" for the enemy. Because this enemy of the free world, free thought, and the free will of men and women is their enemy as well.

See these several posts yesterday on a meme I'm threading for Dr. Zin of Regime Change Iran in comments threads through the Blogos.

In short the MSM has the ability to focus the attention of the Am people and the free world on the Mad Mullahs of Iran. They will melt like the Wicked Witch of the East in the Wizard of OZ under the intense light of the truth.

The Blogos now has the power to drive this story if but we can start the galactic dust cloud to coalesces on this center of hate and evil. In short we can deliver a crushing if not fatal blow to the enemy in the GWOT with the fall of the Iranian theocracy.

This is important for many reasons. The mullahs are on the verge of going nuclear the strategic consequences of which are unimaginable. This administration will not blink for one minute and allow this to happen. The Iranian people for the most part like America and for which it stands, however they are a proud and very nationalistic people. A full on military confrontations would not be good for all involved. The best option is for the Iranian people to effect their on regime change. The majority of the people who consider themselves Persian (Speak Farsi) detest the ruling Arabic minority theocracy. If it weren't for the hired armed Pakistani thugs controlling the masses, the mullahs would be at the mercy of the people.

The Iranian people need now more than ever in the next several weeks our attention. We are entering a critical window of strategic opportunity we need to exploit with all our resources. If we don't the other alternative will not be good and be very expensive to the American taxpayer.

So it is with in mind I'm sharing this comment posts re the ignominy of the incessant natterings of the MSM over the Rove Affair that is a tempest in a teapot all the while major events in world history are passing them by:

[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

and this is probably the most relevant of all and what we're up against with the LL and MSM all whacked out.

Short version the MSM has totally abdicated their responsibility and role that we the people gave them with the right of the free press to control those who we the people choose to govern.

The MSM is failing by filtering the news of the day from their own institutional biases to cover the significant news and events of the day while they are sensationalizing and focussing on non-stories pandering for viewers and readers. They are going down for the count.

As a denizen of the Blogos and are familiar with the meme of Hugh Hewitt - we are in a transformational period as great or greater than the time of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation when control/filtering/interpretation of the news, thoughts, et al of the day were wrested from control of the aristocracy and the Catholic Church. I would compare the LL and the current MSM to the aristocracy as they are so full of themselves. The American people are not that stupid. The American people only need to be educated on affairs of the world and that's the MSM jobs to report, educate, and inform. Most of what now passes for news appearing on the front page above the fold is commentary/opinion that should remain on the OP-ED.

The paradigm is now shifting to the Net and the Blogos as the cost of the medium of communications is almost zero in comparison to the overhead of the MSM. The value of the info and predictability in one's daily life will be the balance of what is of value and not what the MSM believes it to be.

Thank you for reading this rant if you made it this far.

Please help in initating the world's first digital revolution. The Blogos now has the power to do this it just needs several sparks to set it in motion.

This could be something that sells papers.

Blessed be for the Net and the Blogos. Information can now freely transcend governmental boundaries and the filtering of editorial and conglomerate boardrooms:

***

Our media may no longer be a relevant provider of information. A new communication medium is now emerging. People are interconnecting via The Net, blog sites, and email just as this letter. News of events, ideas, and thoughts are freely flowing, unimpaired by political boundaries, or constraints and biases of the editorial and corporate boardrooms. This new collective medium has little overhead and has less need to generate a profit. It attracts audiences on value of the content. There is an inherent self-righting ability that limits extremes of thought and flawed group think.

The media has failed us, in its duty to inform and educate the American people, with its shallow infotainment coverage of the War On Terror. The people need creditable reporting, so we can make intelligent decisions in the upcoming presidential election. Some in the media believe the American people are too stupid to understand the complexities of the day?s stories. There is little drive or reward for excellence in reporting that is driven by a sense of duty and responsibility. The media has drifted into pandering for audiences and avoids hard stories. Hard news stories require a lot of time, effort, and resources. Hard news coverage requires a commitment to educate the people, report the facts without editorializing and sensationalizing, provide details as to the credibility of its sources, and then let the people from the story, form and draw their own opinions and conclusions I would strongly caution information providers and their media conglomerates never to underestimate the intelligence and creativity of the American people.

CAIR launches a new PR campaign to convince us all that Islam is not about terrorism.

At a news conference in Washington, D.C., the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will unveil public service announcements, to be aired nationwide, highlighting the Muslim community's condemnation of terrorism and rejection of those who carry out terror attacks.

The campaign is called "Not in the Name of Islam," and it includes an Arabic-subtitled version of the 30-second public service announcement.

"We often hear claims Muslims don't condemn terrorism and that Islam condones violence," American Muslims say in the ad.

"As Muslims, we want to state clearly that those who commit acts of terror in the name of Islam are betraying the teachings of the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad. We reject anyone - of any faith -- who commits such brutal acts and will not allow our faith to be hijacked by criminals.

"Islam is not about hatred and violence. It's about peace and justice."

Here's the rest of the story.

Rove is going to come after you
Rove is more than a nightmare to you
Two in court won’t stop him
Take their notes but please don’t lose ‘em

Beeb petition :-)

link

To: Prime Minister Tony Blair

Petition

We the undersigned, having observed and documented for many years gross examples of a virulent pro-militant Muslim bias by the BBC; now urge the government to take action against it. The failure of the BBC to properly report events and incidents of this nature around the world from the perspective of a free democracy against this threat, while being financially supported by law within that democracy is untenable, and further increases the threat to our society.

While we can only conjecture at the motives of the BBC to maintain this bias, even after we have ourselves been attacked, it is clear that it is not accidental, and shows this organization to be completely without morals and acting completely against their remit, while using their status to lend credibility to their stance. Appeasement of the Nazis led to many more lives being lost in World War 2, as it now does with militant Islam by providing excuses for them to perpetrate and further their strategy of divide and conquer within our society.

Either the license fee, which gives the BBC their present status and credibility to be used as a tool by the many despotic and totalitarian regimes that the BBC also serves, should be ended, or the BBC should be held accountable and firmly monitored under the penalty of treason should this bias continue.

We urge the government to act promptly and deal with this internal menace to our society before more lives are lost as a result of this continuing bias.

Sincerely,

Emily still looks like it hits between La Pesca and Tampico, and spares Texas direct imapcts, other than a few rain squalls, maybe an isolated tornado, and winds blowing to near tropical storm force on South Padre Island.

I never went to South Party Island. I got the crappy VEAP program when I was in the Navy, they wouldn't let me join the "New GI Bill" because I was already in VEAP, and I paid $2700 to get $8100 back six years later spread over 4 years.

So I had to work during college, and never got drunk on Spring Break.

You all probably don't appreciate this, but the center of Hurricane Emily, 3 km above the sea, is 10oC warmer than the edge of the storm.

Serious heat being released.

BTW, when reading weather discussions, the term "warm core low" usually refers to tropical lows. While mid-latitude (aka "polar") lows get colder, relative to their surroundings, with height, tropical lows get warmer, relative to the surroundings, with height.

Which is so cool, really. Look at this water-vapor loop. While the low and mid-level clouds rotate counter-clockwise (cyclonically) toward the center of the hurricane, the highest clouds, the feathery looking cirrus, actally flows anti-cyclonically away from the hurricane

Yet one more reason to question Lefties and their worldview. SF votes 8-3 against having USS Iowa berthed in the city as a floating museum.

Seems as though SF forgets what the Iowa did during WWII and Korea to protect and defend this nation and those whose freedom was under fire.

You know - defending the liberals from the Japanese who attacked this nation in a surprise attack, and defended the South Koreans (and the UN forces that included the US) from the North who invaded the South.

'Cooter' Urges Fans to Skip 'Dukes' Movie

If television's "Crazy Cooter" has his way, fans of the "Dukes of Hazzard" may be speeding away from a new movie version of the cornpone classic faster than the Duke boys running from Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane.

Ben Jones, a former Georgia congressman who played the wisecracking mechanic on the popular series from 1979-85, said profanity and sexual content in the film make a mockery of the family friendly show.

"Basically, they trashed our show," said Jones, who now lives in the mountains of Washington, Va. "It's one thing to do whatever movie they want to do, but to take a classic family show and do that is like taking "I Love Lucy" and making her a crackhead or something."

Jones said he read a script of the movie, which is scheduled to be released next month, and that it contained profanity, "constant sexual innuendo and some very clear sexual situations."

A mosque for ex-Nazis became center of radical Islam

[Link: www.post-gazette.com...]

Snip:

MUNICH, Germany -- North of this prosperous city of engineers and auto makers is an elegant mosque with a slender minaret and a turquoise dome. A stand of pines shields it from a busy street. In a country of more than three million Muslims, it looks unremarkable, another place of prayer for Europe's fastest-growing religion.

The mosque's history, however, tells a more-tumultuous story. Buried in government and private archives are hundreds of documents that trace the battle to control the Islamic Center of Munich. Never before made public, the material shows how radical Islam established one of its first and most important beachheads in the West when a group of ex-Nazi soldiers decided to build a mosque.

The soldiers' presence in Munich was part of a nearly forgotten subplot to World War II: the decision by tens of thousands of Muslims in the Soviet Red Army to switch sides and fight for Hitler. After the war, thousands sought refuge in West Germany, building one of the largest Muslim communities in 1950s Europe. When the Cold War heated up, they were a coveted prize for their language skills and contacts back in the Soviet Union. For more than a decade, U.S., West German, Soviet and British intelligence agencies vied for control of them in the new battle of democracy versus communism.

Yet the victor wasn't any of these Cold War combatants. Instead, it was a movement with an equally powerful ideology: the Muslim Brotherhood. Founded in 1920s Egypt as a social-reform movement, the Brotherhood became the fountainhead of political Islam, which calls for the Muslim religion to dominate all aspects of life. A powerful force for political change throughout the Muslim world, the Brotherhood also inspired some of the deadliest terrorist movements of the past quarter century, including Hamas and al Qaeda.

The story of how the Brotherhood exported its creed to the heart of Europe highlights a recurring error by Western democracies. For decades, countries have tried to cut deals with political Islam -- backing it in order to defeat another enemy, especially communism. Most famously, the U.S. and its allies built up mujahadeen holy warriors in 1980s Afghanistan to fight the Soviet Union -- paving the way for the rise of Osama bin Laden, who quickly turned on his U.S. allies in the 1990s.

Munich was a momentous early example of this dubious strategy. Documents and interviews show how the Muslim Brotherhood formed a working arrangement with U.S. intelligence organizations, outmaneuvering German agencies for control of the former Nazi soldiers and their mosque. But the U.S. lost its hold on the movement, and in short order conservative, arch-Catholic Bavaria had become host to a center of radical Islam.

Italy bans U.S. security guards from Winter Games

ROME (Reuters) - Italy will not allow the United States or any other country to bring its own security personnel to guard athletes during next February's Winter Olympics, the government official in charge of the Games said on Thursday.

"I exclude categorically that the U.S. team or any other team will be able to bring people for their own security."

The NY Times has a story regarding a New Hampshire town's attempt to force action from INS and Homesland Security on illegal immigrants. The implications with regards to anti-terrorism efforts are *crystal* clear, but it would appear that local authorities are hindered by Federal reluctance to pursue these immigrants, particularly if they are from Mexico.

Town Uses Trespass Law to Fight Illegal Immigrants

One day in April, Jorge Mora Ramírez stopped his car on the side of a road in the small southern New Hampshire town of New Ipswich and was making a cellphone call when a police officer approached him.

The officer questioned Mr. Ramírez, a 21-year-old Mexican who acknowledged that he was in the country illegally, and the New Ipswich police tried to get federal immigration authorities to arrest him. But when immigration officials demurred, not considering him a priority given scarce enforcement resources, the police acted on their own. They took the highly unusual step of charging Mr. Ramírez with criminal trespassing, and held him overnight.

"I wanted the federal government to understand that I was going to take some type of action," said the New Ipswich police chief, W. Garrett Chamberlain. "If I can discourage illegal aliens from coming to or passing through my community, then I think I've succeeded."

The usual progressive suspects abound, but the most interesting detail is who is paying for his defense:

The case against Mr. Ramírez, who lives in Waltham, Mass., and was working as a construction worker here in Jaffrey when he was charged, is also being watched by civil liberties advocates and the Mexican government, which is paying for his lawyers.

I fully hold that Unions served a purpose, at a time when business owners really did not care about workers... but after the 40 hour work week, and the option for health care (some states require that the employer pay the health care, others require they pay at least 50%, others require that the offer it)... they really don't seem to serve a purpose.

nor do they seem to really help the worker.. maybe that's just my jaded opinion.

From Jihad Watch we have this - British bombers likely recruited at Government funded centre

LEEDS -- The transformation of four young British men into terrorists appears to have taken place at a government-funded storefront youth centre in Leeds that, according to youth workers, was a hub of radical Islamist activity.

The centre was sealed off and searched by police yesterday after three of its workers said in an interview on the street outside that at least two of the suicide bombers had been "very regular" visitors at all hours to the Hamara Youth Access Point, and a third had been seen there occasionally.

"It had become so radical and so hateful that I asked if I could stop working there," said one of the workers, who along with two others described the storefront drop-in centre as a hub of radical Muslim politics and a hotbed of Islamic organizing, routinely hosting mysterious figures to speak about extremist politics.

I do not think he will be fired...

Regardless of whether he's found guilty or not (which I doubt he will be), Bush made the nation a promise that he'd fire the leaker. While I'm sure he could argue that, at the time, he assumed that a crime had been committed, the Dems are going to hold him to that promise.

Palestinian Poet Lashes Out at Militants

By MOHAMMED DARAGHMEH, Associated Press Writer

Wednesday, July 13, 2005

(07-13) 10:54 PDT RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) -- It's been a hot summer on the Palestinian arts scene: gunmen broke up the concert of a popular West Bank singer after he refused to limit his repertoire to political songs, and a Hamas-run town banned a music festival to prevent mingling of the sexes.

Now, Palestinian national poet Mahmoud Darwish is striking back, saying fanatics have no right to deprive Palestinians of beauty in their lives. "There are Taliban-type elements in our society, and this is a very dangerous sign," Darwish told a gathering of artists and intellectuals this week.

It's not just an argument over artistic freedom, but over whether a future Palestinian state will be a theocracy or a pluralistic democracy.

Last week, music lovers got another jolt when gunmen broke up the concert of popular singer Amar Hassan at An Najah University in the West Bank city of Nablus. Hassan shot to local fame last year after he came in second in a Lebanese TV version of "American Idol," a competition of aspiring artists in which fans vote for their favorites.

Before the Nablus show, militants from the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades came to Hassan's hotel room. They told him he must sing only political songs, and cut love songs from his repertoire. The Al Aqsa gunmen, who have ties to Fatah, told Hassan that light-hearted entertainment is forbidden as long as Israel occupies the West Bank.

Hassan said he ignored the demands, and started his concert before a crowd of 6,000. During his show, dozens of gunmen and hundreds of protesters rallied outside the university's walls. Gunmen fired in the air and threw stun grenades, eventually forcing Hassan to break off the performance. As concertgoers left the campus, the protesters barged in, throwing chairs and scuffling with those leaving.

Hassan said in an interview Tuesday that he would not be silenced. "These people (the militants) don't want us to be happy. They want us to sit in the ruins and cry," he said. "We will wage a creative war against them, with more poems, more art, more singing."

Is this surprising to anyone? (Not to me.):

LEEDS -- The transformation of four young British men into terrorists appears to have taken place at a government-funded storefront youth centre in Leeds that, according to youth workers, was a hub of radical Islamist activity.

The centre was sealed off and searched by police yesterday after three of its workers said in an interview on the street outside that at least two of the suicide bombers had been "very regular" visitors at all hours to the Hamara Youth Access Point, and a third had been seen there occasionally.

"It had become so radical and so hateful that I asked if I could stop working there," said one of the workers, who along with two others described the storefront drop-in centre as a hub of radical Muslim politics and a hotbed of Islamic organizing, routinely hosting mysterious figures to speak about extremist politics.

. . . .

It appears that this modest youth centre is the point where these three young men converged with the fourth bomber and a leading figure who was being sought by police last night.

. . . .

The centre receives funding from the British government and the European Union, as well as charitable funds, and as such is officially secular and non-political. But in practice, it was neither. On its walls were posters from the Respect Party, an extremist pro-Islamic party founded by MP George Galloway, that showed Israeli soldiers pointing rifles at Palestinian children.

well, I don't get that bent up on the "Name" verses "the wife" . . . that's moot to me.

what people have forgotten is that her name had already been leaked and she had not been 'covert' for 9 years before this stink started.

If Karl Rove had been on national television and said "Plame, Wilson's wife, works for the CIA and suggested him as someone to handle this Niger bit.." It still wouldn't be anything CLOSE to outing her.

Now, I don't know how long it takes to get a book written and published... but this happend in 2003, and Joe Wilson's book about it all came out in 2004... which makes me wonder if part of this isn't hidden in the Left's party as a 'slam bush' plan, and a moneymaker for their man Wilson.

194 Athos  Thu, Jul 14, 2005 8:58:37am

More interesting links - From the Daily Telegraph - How are we going to fight this war?

But the arguments that follow will be conducted in a new and awful context: namely, the absolute, incontrovertible knowledge, spelt out in the blood of Londoners, that this war is now being waged in our very midst. "It is a war," one Cabinet minister said to me. "People didn't believe that till last Thursday. But they do now."

I hope he is right. This war, of course, is like nothing that has preceded it, which is why it is so tempting to call it something else: a criminal conspiracy, or a series of isolated atrocities carried out by psychopathic mavericks. And yet the analysis that the President and Prime Minister offered after 9/11 now seems more pertinent than ever.

We face three, inextricably linked threats: from Islamist fanatics, from the rogue states that harbour them, and from the deadly weapons which they seek to acquire. Only three months ago, Kamel Bourgass was jailed for 17 years for plotting to unleash ricin on London's streets. Bourgass failed. On July 7, Hasib Hussain, Shehzad Tanweer, Mohammed Sadique Khan and another man succeeded with conventional explosive. What if it had been the other way round?

Alas, these grim realities have been obscured for almost three years by the tangled arguments over the liberation of Iraq. At precisely the moment that it should have been looking outward with ever greater vigilance, the British polity turned in on itself. "Iraq" became political shorthand - like "spin" or "sleaze" - a metaphor for all that was objectionable about Mr Blair and his Government. The horizons of British politics narrowed dangerously.

Ironically, it has taken a local event to remind us of the global nature of this conflict, its pervasiveness, and our consequent inability to escape its consequences simply by blaming this or that head of government. Does anyone seriously believe that 52 more Londoners would be alive today if Gordon Brown were Prime Minister, and John Kerry were President? The question is so absurd that it scarcely merits a response.

Read it all.

Alright, getting back to the "promise," this is what I've been able to get from the Wikipedia article on Rove. Of the three articles they have concerning the "promise" Bush made...

- The first is a press briefing by Scott McClellan, where he says the White House's stance on the leak investigation was that the person(s) involved would, at the minimum, lose their job.

- The second is a transcript of the statements by Bush during last year's G8 summit. A reporter asked if he intended to keep the "promise" he made to fire whoever was involved, and he said affirmed it.

- The last is a Washington Post article from this past Tuesday, where Harry Red...er, Reid brought up the "promise" Bush made to fire whoever was the leak.

So, from the looks of it, it's yet another myth created by the Dems and the MSM. A promise that was never made, only an assurance that those involved would be dealt with if a crime had been committed.

As part of our effort to build the most inclusive and diverse possible mobilization, UFPJ has chosen two simple, broad demands for the weekend: End the War on Iraq, Bring the Troops Home Now! These main slogans are accompanied by five additional demands that link to specific campaigns: Leave no military bases behind; End the looting of Iraq; Stop bankrupting our communities; Stop the torture; No military recruitment in our schools.

Which, if the Special Prosecutor doesn't indict anyone, means no one goes anywhere they don't want to. Except Judith Miller. She's the strange, strange piece in the affair. I'm beginning to think she's the leak to Rove and if she admits to telling Rove, then he's off the hook.

Rove did not leak her name. "Joe Wilson's wife" is not "Valerie Plame"

A lot of people here have voiced the possibility that Miller's refusal to fork over her notes is because she either knows the true source or (more likely) simply rewrote someone else's article. In either case, it would be a crippling blow to the New York Slimes credibility.

One thing mentioned in a article on here yesterday is the fact that, up til Newsweek "revealed" Rove as the leak, the Times was trying to argue that no crime had been committed and there was no real reason to lock up Miller.

Big, you are referring to Glenview NAS not Great Lakes. Great Lakes is still open, but in a limited capacity. As far as I understand, all Basic Training is now conducted in San Diego. I grew up not too far from Glenview, and we used to live to watch the Goodyear blimp land there whenever it was in town. Glenview NAS was also where the Navy aerobatic teams would "park" between performances of the "Chicago Air & Water Show". You want to know a block out of any moonbats "Rove should be fired" screed? Point out the fact that their entire arguement hinges on one thing: Rove (and, by their extension, the White House) were out to get Wilson for telling the truth about Niger.

Yet so far, every one of Wilson's assertions, from his being given the mission by Cheney to his report discrediting the CIA's findings, have been proven as bullsh*t. If anything, it would have been more to the White House's advantage to simply sit back and watch Wilson make a fool of himself, not try to "scare" him by revealing what was already an open secret (namely his wife's employment with the CIA).

Generally, my stuff is set in sterling silver, tho it may get gold-plated, which technically makes it "vermeil." I use stones I've cut, often from whole rough lumps of rock, first sawing, then trimsawing, preforming, shaping, sanding and polishing.

I work with uncommon materials. Two projects in the works, awaiting settings and faceted accent stones, include a vermeil ring set with a 14x12mm Ellensburg blue agate (the only agate rare enough to be in the Smithsonian) and tanzanite accents, and a bracelet, ring, necklace and earring set (a "full parure", 4 or more pieces) made from lavender-and-green Guatemalan jadeite, with color-change purple-to-green garnet accents.

It's fun, relaxing, and helps me de-stress. It's easier on my body than my home brewing (currently fermenting a white-peach sweet-cherry honey wine, or "melomel", which should end up near 35 Prood, and a cherry ale, likely about 6% alcohol (12 Proof)), tho it's harder on my wallet :-/

The article provided details on the companies, the aircraft, included photos with tail numbers, and basically provided anyone who wanted to ID people flying on CIA aircraft the means to do so.

ok... ONE joke. actually a framed deal i saw. had the Marine symbol (the anchor with the globe and eagle.) and had this caption under it:

"We stole the Anchor from the Navy, the Eagle from the Air Force, and on the 7th Day, when God rested, we stormed his fort, stole the globe, and have been defending it ever since."

The girl in the picture more than likely only got one hour sleep the night before, in a barracks room with 80 of her newest friends, is exhausted, somewhat scared and had powdered eggs for breakfast. She was then marched everywhere, exposed to the elements, spoken to in less than a polite manner, etc.

Sort of like Gitmo.

Well, except for the powdered eggs of course.

I think I fell asleep in the chair for my first haircut there.

I remember reading the events of the marine bootcamp.

it said to not expect sleep the first night, and expect to be yelled at for almost all of the first 48 hours of processing.

maybe the people who think Gitmo is torture should enlist in the Marines.

Senator Clinton's crusade against what she calls the "silent epidemic" has lead her to request sending the FTC after the makers of the video game "Grand Theft Auto". Her support of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, however, has a strong likelihood of undermining any work against this "silent epidemic" in addition to jeopardizing our national sovereignty.

Lockerbie victim's parents give $100,000 to library

The parents of a Seton Hill College student who was killed in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, will donate $100,000 to the Scottdale Public Library.

Greensburg residents Carole and Glenn P. Johnson Jr., who said they have deep roots in Scottdale, donated $25,000 on Monday toward a new library building in memory of their daughter, Beth Ann Johnson, who died Dec. 21, 1988.

She worked at the Seton Hill College library with her grandmother, who was the librarian there, and helped with the library renovation work in 1987.

Beth Ann also loved music, the theater and working with children, her parents said.

Her dedication led to the creation of the Beth Ann Johnson Reading Room at the Scottdale Public Library, which was established in 2000 with a $10,000 donation from her parents.

No time to read everything, but on the Florida vs Texas debate.

I've lived in Texas - got hit by a Hurricane, hot as hell, thunderstorms all the stinking time, had to get in a special line at the phone company for "English speakers", where I lived the biggest hill was built by fire ants, but the people were great, the bar-b-que outstanding and its just plain big!

I've lived in Florida, had to evacuate to avoid a hurricane, hot as hell - but humid on top of it, thunderstorms all the stinking time, didn't have to get in a special line for "English speakers", but the Bar-b-que sucked. People were generally great, Machine Gun Kelly's was a blast, where I lived the biggest hill was built by mother alligators, Key West had some great scuba-diving and was an absolute haven for wacko watching, but its not really all that big.

I've lived in California, the weather was near-perfect, no hurricanes, no thunderstorms, not hot (near the coast), not cold, not polluted, but there was the occassional brush fire. No special line for English Speakers, but only about 1/2 the people in the State could understand me when I spoke English. Bar-b-que pretty much sucks, but the Mexican food was damned good. The biggest hills were mountains covered in snow. In the course of one day I could go snow-skiing in the morning amongst beautiful trees, streams, mountains and "people" to water-skliing in the afternoon amongst beautiful bays, beaches and "people". Of course, its expensive as hell, but it is also just plain big!

Bottom line, I live in Oregon. ::grins::

Only in Louisiana. You gotta love this lawyer - it's too good not to
share! Everyone who has ever bought a house will enjoy this.
A New Orleans lawyer sought an FHA loan for a client. He was told the loan would be granted if he could prove satisfactory title to a parcel of property being offered as collateral. The title to the property dated
back to 1803, which took the Lawyer three months to track down. After
sending the information to the FHA, he received the following reply:
(Actual letter):

"Upon review of your letter adjoining your client's loan application,
we note that the request is supported by an Abstract of Title. While
we compliment the able manner in which you have prepared and presented the application, we must point out that you have only cleared title to
the proposed collateral property back to 1803. Before final approval
can be accorded, it will be necessary to clear the title back to its
origin." Annoyed, the lawyer responded as follows (actual letter):

"Your letter regarding title in Case No. 189156 has been received. I
note that you wish to have title extended further than the 194 years
covered by the present application. I was unaware that any educated
person in this country, particularly those working in the property
area, would not know that Louisiana was purchased, by the U.S., from
France in 1803, the year of origin identified in our application. For
the edification of uninformed FHA bureaucrats, the title to the land
prior to U.S. ownership was obtained from France, which had acquired
it by Right of Conquest from Spain. The land came into the possession
of Spain by Right of Discovery made in the year 1492 by a sea captain
named Christopher Columbus, who had been granted the privilege of
seeking a new route to India by the Spanish monarch, Isabella. The
good queen, Isabella, being a pious woman and almost as careful about
titles as the FHA, took the precaution of securing the blessing of the
Pope before she sold her jewels to finance Columbus' expedition. Now
the Pope, as I'm sure you may know, is the emissary of Jesus Christ,
the Son of God, and God, it is commonly accepted, created this world.
Therefore, I believe it is safe to presume that God also made that
part of the world called Louisiana. God, therefore, would be the owner
of origin and His origins date back, to before the beginning of time,
the world as we know it AND the FHA. I hope you find God's original
claim to be satisfactory. Now, may we have our loan?"
The loan was approved

248 boojum  Thu, Jul 14, 2005 10:23:28am

Are the supreme poker playing duo of Bush and Rove about to lay down a royal flush in the Valerie Plame affair?

Ask yourself:

Why would Patrick Fitzgerald whom the Chicago-Sun praised as a prosecutor who has "vigorously pursued" organized crime and "ferreted out official corruption at the highest levels" in Illinois now seemingly reduce himself to the persecution of two reporters over an incident that no one seems to believe was even a crime?

Perhaps because the so-called outing of Valerie Plame is not the crime he's now investigating.

We're so used to the leftist Dems "getting away with murder" (ala Sandy Burgler) while
Republicans get raked over the coals in endless news cycles for any perceived infraction, that we miss the paradigm shift that is obviously taking place. Dan Rather has paid. The New York Times has paid in Raines resignation and a steady drop in circulation. I could go on, but the point is that things are changing, though we may not yet believe what we see before our eyes -- that it's possible that Joe Wilson's lies will have consequences.

What if the whole Wilson/Plame affair was a set-up from the beginning involving the Democaratic party and certain "rogue" elements in the State Department and CIA to seriously discredit Bush's Iraqi strategy before the election. What if reporters Cooper and Miller were pawns in that game. What if evidence of that set-up is what the special prosecutor has uncovered.

Would such a set-up involve crimes? I don't know. But I did hear that reporters Friedman and Gregory were on Imus in near hysterics claiming that the White House was out to get journalists, supposedly evidenced by what was happening to Cooper and Miller. Interesting, given that it was the NYT that demanded the special prosecutor and that Rove early on waived any privilege. Perhaps Gregory and Friedman know more than we do. One can only hope.

Joe Wilson's Top 10 Lies and Misstatements

1.) Wilson Insisted That The Vice President’s Office Sent Him To Niger:

Wilson Said He Traveled To Niger At CIA Request To Help Provide Response To Vice President’s Office. “In February 2002, I was informed by officials at the Central Intelligence Agency that Vice President Dick Cheney’s office had questions about a particular intelligence report. … The agency officials asked if I would travel to Niger to check out the story so they could provide a response to the vice president’s office.” (Joseph C. Wilson, Op-Ed, “What I Didn’t Find In Africa,” The New York Times, 7/6/03)

* Joe Wilson: “[W]hat They Did, What The Office Of The Vice President Did, And, In Fact, I Believe Now From Mr. Libby’s Statement, It Was Probably The Vice President Himself ...” (CNN’s “Late Edition,” 8/3/03)

Vice President Cheney: “I Don’t Know Joe Wilson. I’ve Never Met Joe Wilson. … And Joe Wilson - I Don’t [Know] Who Sent Joe Wilson. He Never Submitted A Report That I Ever Saw When He Came Back.” (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 9/14/03)

CIA Director George Tenet: “In An Effort To Inquire About Certain Reports Involving Niger, CIA’s Counter-Proliferation Experts, On Their Own Initiative, Asked An Individual With Ties To The Region To Make A Visit To See What He Could Learn.” (Central Intelligence Agency, “Statement By George J. Tenet, Director Of Central Intelligence,” Press Release, 7/11/03)

Schumer and Wilson - perfect together.

Both are sooo credible.

For you.

Gimme Three Steps
(Allen Collins - Ronnie VanZant)
I was cutting the rug
Down at a place called The Jug
With a girl named Linda Lu
When in walked a man
With a gun in his hand
And he was looking for you know who.
He said, "Hey there fellow,
With the hair colored yellow,
Watcha tryin' to prove?
'Cause that's my woman there
And I'm a man who cares
And this might be all for you."

I was scared and fearing for my life.
I was shakin' like a leaf on a tree.
'Cause he was lean, mean,
Big and bad, Lord,
Pointin' that gun at me.
I said, "Wait a minute, mister,
I didn't even kiss her.
Don't want no trouble with you.
And I know you don't owe me
But I wich you'd let me
Ask one favor from you."

(Chorus)
"Won't you give me three steps,
Gimme three steps mister,
Gimme three steps towards the door
Gimme three steps
Gimme three steps mister,
And you'll never see me no more."

Well the crowd cleared away
And I began to pray
as the water fell on the floor.
And I'm telling you son,
Well, it ain't no fun
Staring straight down a forty-four.
Well he turned and screamed at Linda Lu
And that's the break I was looking for.
And you could hear me screaming a mile away
As I was headed out towards the door.

(Chorus)

OK, then:

1) I know very little about lobotomies, but I was under the impression that there are very rare circumstances where it's used. It was badly over-used back in the 50's and 60's, but the doctor received his prize because of what lobotomies demonstrated, and some of the implications for brain function. So how is he responsible for the misplaced enthusiasm of his mental health colleagues? Did he perform them indiscriminately? If so, why didn't the families directly sue him or even press charges? If not, well, what are they doing this for?

2) I note this is being done posthumously. I don't think too well of that.

3) Anything that embarrasses the Nobel Committee strikes me as a good thing. I'm trying to find a listing of the Prize for literature to make my point. What, since Solzhenitzen, has been even readable, never mind the number of frauds perpetrated.

That's what I'm thinking.

I don't quite understand why it would be done posthumously though...what would be the point?

As for the committee...They're a joke now days!...just another organization making political statements. But, I'd hate to start revisiting all awards for scientific achievements that turned out to be lesser achievements than originally thought.

I think it's a good idea not to revisit the Prizes, particularly not if the recipient is dead. For one thing, I'm not sure I see the point. For another, the Nobel Committee essentially makes a SWAG as to what's actually significant. Look at Physics. Rubia got the prize in what, the mid-80's, for discovering some particle or other. And the significance of this was...? Granted, I just read the popularizations of physics research - my maths aren't good enough to follow what the heck they're talking about - but I don't see anything building on this discovery.

Lovely Little loppyd,

I've been very busy with work around the house and at the Dojo.

Bad thunder storms caused tree damage and the road leading from the county rt. to my house(.7 miles) was washed out in two place from the stream overflow.

I finally got the trees cut and removed from across the road and the road is filled in .

I try to lurk when I can. Getting to the point when I can sit on my fat butt and enjoy LGF again.

Ah. I'm hanging out among the Koreans these days - hapkido. Lovely art. That's where the cane comes in.

Oh, true, funny story - while working with the cane, I actually started crying because I was hitting my instructor (also known as The Male of the Species). I got over it fast enough, but he shook his head and said, "Most people cry because they got hit, not because they hit someone else."

304 Dianna  Thu, Jul 14, 2005 11:42:44am

Great Lake is still there. Fort Sheridan--over half of it was sold to private entities. A small portion is still a reserve center. Most of the buildings at Ft. Sheridan have historical status. So the upscale housing is old officer's quarters redone. And the golf course is now a country club. It's pretty nice, actually.

GoJu Ryu is the most traditional discipline and probably the oldest form

Go =Hard,Ju=soft

It requires body strenght and muscle control. While females do practice it ,I would not recommend it to start.
Depending upon your level of commitment ,I would suggest;
Shotokan

Chito Ryu

Wado Ryu

Tae kwon do

While they are all martial arts ,they differ in their requirements, both physically and mentally.

Re-read what you wrote. It's moveon.org out there! That means that any minute now, they're going to be severely embarassed.

Wait for the special prosecutor, demanded by the press and the Dems, to speak. Just wait. While waiting, remember that Rove signed a waiver 18 months ago, which makes this whole present kerfuffle a crock. No one trying to cover something up signs a waiver.

As someone said earlier, pass the popcorn!

Re-post from a thread, which appears [equally] dead:

Slightly OT but I'm just wonderin' out loud:

How come it took UK police a week to figger out that they were dealing with suicude bombers?

How come they fed us lies such as "timed bombs, simultaneously detonated"?

How come they deliberately kept everybody in the dark about real casualty figures, y'know, after 12 hrs it's still "2 confirmed dead", when they knew they had at least a dozen, just in the bus, which was above ground and not "hard to reach"?

Well, my guess is that the f*ckers who did this were on watch lists all over the place.

Feel free to chip in with your opinions, but to me it stinks to high heaven of cover-up and "let's not have a backlash against moo-slime communities"...and the $500 Bn. worth of Arab banking in London.

I've seen a lot of places
I've been around the world
I've seen pretty faces
Been with some beautiful girls
After all I've witnessed
One thing still amazes me
Just like a miracle, you have to see to believe
Chorus:
(Cause) God blessed Texas
With His own hand
Brought down angels from the promised land
Gave 'em a place where they could dance
If you wanna see heaven, brother, here's you're chance
I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas.
First, He let the sun shine
Then He made the waters deep
Then He gave us moonlight
For all the world to see
Well everybody knows that the Lord works in mysterious ways
He took a rest, then on the very next day
Chorus (twice)
Well I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas
Well I've been sent to spread the message
God blessed Texas.

But one site sticks out - Little Green Footballs (LGF), operated by Charles Johnson, is notorious for being a promoter of and haven for some of the most virulent anti-Muslim and anti-Islam hate speech on the web...

Below is from O-dub's site...

The RNC’s recommendation of the Little Green Footballs site - one of only fifteen selected - would seem to be in stark contrast to President Bush’s repeated proclamations that “Islam is peace”.

It bears asking - why is the Republican Party’s first step into the world of blogging now tainted by their support of a hate site? Perhaps you should ask the RNC at info@gop.com or Chairman Ken Mehlman at Chairman@gop.com

"For What It's Worth" Stephen Stills, 1966

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Actually, unless we were to first strike, we'd probably get our hair mussed, no matter what we did (I'm not sure that our current missle defense could handle it if China managed to launch their land based ICBMs, although I seriously doubt any of their noisy diesel boats would ever make it to a launch position). Anyway, I figure, if we go for a preemption, one or two Ohio class missle boats, with properly MIIRVed Trident IIs, could handily bring their retalitory capability against the mainland US to its knees in short order.

Killian, so what is your guess?

Will we EVER do it to them before they do it do us?

That is a level far beyond this current terrorist stuff. Also, we have the means and capability to end terrorism in a brutal and efficient way and we wont even do that?

Why would we preimpt another?

374 realwest  Thu, Jul 14, 2005 6:32:15pm

HEY - WTF - not ONE guess at the trivia challenge I posed at #368? C'mon now, I gotta get some sleep soon, somebody guess or I'll have to post the answer.

I suppose it ultimately depends on who's in the White House at the time and how badly they want to defend Taiwan. I would hope to God that, when push finally comes to shove, unless we have near 100% confidence in our missle defense against a Chinese ICBM launch, we would preempt. Otherwise, there would most likely be at least some west coast real estate chewed up pretty bad.

Again, even if we let thm swing first, we'd stil prevail, although it would be quite ugly. Any use of nuclear weapons is going to be extremely nasty, but better they take a massive, devastating barrage right off the bat, than we trade blows and get into a war of attrition with them. He who gets there first with the most wins.

/by the way, unless we somehow, eventually get a less hostile Chinese government, if it isn't Taiwan, it'll be something else

I know it's not me, all I got is my LesPaul, Strat clone, and Rickenbacker bass. I think Pete Townshend and Eric Clapton are avid collectors, but I'm probably wrong. Doesn't Leo Kottke collect guitars? I'm sure once the answer is revealed, it'll be like duh, I should've known that.

/glad to see you're back

Who is Scott Chinery? I've never heard of him.

/but Mr. Google likes his odds

378 realwest  Thu, Jul 14, 2005 7:00:16pm

Killlian Bundy - thanks - it's good to be back, though I'm exhausted. And Google is full of you know what.
The biggest collecter in terms of numbers and value of guitars is (drum roll, please):

Stevan Segal. Yes THAT Stevan Segal. His passion is for collecting samurai swords and guitars (and he turns out to be a far better guitar player than an actor, though that's not saying much!)

Saw a TV special on one of those late night cable programs when no matter how many drugs they gave me I couldn't sleep and he was pegged as number 1. Stephan Stills at #2, Eric Clapton and Les Paul tied at #3.

379 realwest  Thu, Jul 14, 2005 7:07:34pm

And with that obvious SHOCKA I'm off to sleep, hoping these drugs will let me sleep.

Stevan Segal

Boy, I sure never would have guessed THAT!

Now that I think about, Stephan Stills (Johnny's Graden/Manassas) makes sense.

/and hey, I got number three!

If anyone is still up the story on the msm now is that Rove got the ID on Plame from the msm. No where does it say he knew she was an operative, which we know she wasn't from Joe Wilsons book. She was back in the states 6 years, which would tell us she was not an overseas opperative for 5 years which she had to be to qualify for the "Crime" of outing her.

"my wife was not a clandestine("classified")officer the day that Bob Novak blew her identity"

oops...

so unless she was assigned overseas in the last 5 years, was TDY on average more than 183 days a year, or had a special exemption the ONLY way she was "classified" was through a clerical error and I don't buy that.

if you concede she was "outed" from a classified position she did not hold then the person who is most responsible for outing her was just on CNN.

*edit* and this leads me to believe that what is now being engaged in is a mining expedition for perjury and contempt...at worst it looks like Wilson himself may be pondering if they are building a case against him or his spouse.

#330 KB,

I like 3 things more than almost anything...

1) Nuclear Detonations

2) Enemy Funerals

3) Chinese women

If the Chicoms are feeling froggy I will get more of 2 of those and less of one...

I can live with that.

386 Amalie  Thu, Jul 14, 2005 8:08:52pm

385 Sven

Let's see... 3 things i like more than anything in the world...

Perfect wave to surf
sand as soft as baby powder
blowing up things

I can live with two out of three, can you guess which ones?

387 sven10077  Thu, Jul 14, 2005 8:17:05pm

#386 Amalie,

I could if I traced your IP!(hint if a Palestinian IP well you get the picture j/k)

*big grin*

The Chinese histrionics are actually a sign of weakness on their part, unless they are planning on engaging in ops in the next 90 days if history is a guide...

I am not overly worried.

Annoying news day, here's an old joke:

Shortly after President Bush took office, an old man approached the White House from the park across Pennsylvania Ave where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Clinton."

The marine looked at the man and said, "Sir, Mr. Clinton is no longer president and no longer resides here."

The old man said, "Okay," and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Clinton."

The marine again told the man, "Sir, Mr. Clinton is no longer president and no longer resides here."

The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying "I would like to go in and meet with President Clinton."

The marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Clinton. I've told you already that Mr. Clinton is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?"

The old man looked at the Marine and said, "Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it."

The Marine snapped to attention, saluted and said, "See you tomorrow, Sir!"

#382 Killian Bundy - LOL! I've found that Prview is Rarely My Friend - it just makes me wonder how I missed those mistakes on preview!
Stephen Stills is definitely an acquired taste. When he was hot, he could and did play with the best of them (my favorite true story was when he and Jimi Hendrix, who were pals, bought out the Wintergarden, set up with a small pick up band and played just for themselves for like 9 hours) Btw, a former law associate of mine's father in law is the executor of Hendrix estate and said that two years or more before his death, they had his pad wired in such a way that if he flicked on a light switch, it started a bank of tape recorders going and they have something like 70 hours of tape of Jimi playing by himself and some musicians -Clapton, Beck, Mclaghlin, and Stills - all pretty well stoned and just playing together for the music. Estate fights have prevented all but the Mahavishnu Mclaghlin/Hendrix tapes from being released, but they say that some of Hendrix hottest and most innovate playing was on 8 or more hours with Stills, who was also at his absolute best. Just playing for/with each other, for the music, not even knowing they were being recorded. Sigh. I'd give ANYTHING to hear those tapes.

390 realwest  Thu, Jul 14, 2005 11:51:30pm

PINMF! LOL! That should have been 700 hours, not 70!

#388 Merovign - ROFLMAO! I have to tell you that I stole that joke and sent it to about 20 friends (I did, however, give you credit). It's absolutely priceless!
