I had this e-mail argument with the president of the local “Secular Society” who had argued that crosses on the roadside, left as memorials by grieving relatives constituted the encroachment of religiopn and should not be allowed to remain there. He said it that would encourage more mourners to place their memorials along the roadside and was a sure sign of how our nation was becoming a theology.

I told him the only thing these were a sure sign of, was that that particular stretch of road was in need of improvement.
