How Phony Can They Get?

Sun, Aug 28, 2005 at 5:10:24 pm PDT

Here’s a touching scene, featuring Cindy Sheehan and the Reverend Al Sharpton, in front of crosses, looking solemn and sad.

Now let’s zoom out and see the media swarm around this manufactured event:

UPDATE at 8/28/05 5:42:51 pm:

Several LGF readers point out the Jewish star at lower right of the second photograph. Somebody tell Code Pink not to let the Nazis know.

Wow, really puts it in perspective. Reporters are beating down the door for anti-war stories.

Somewhat like the press who surround the Pali terrorists and the Iraqi terrorsists.

6 Dar ul Harbarian  Sun, Aug 28, 2005 3:14:04pm

About half the crowd that was watching Cindy talk yesterday is in this photo

Note the arc of cameras spread thoughout the center of the crowd.

Count the number of people in this photo and multiply by 2 (3 if you feel charitable) and that is how big her protest is.

Also note the quality of the tent with nice lights and steel support columns. The stage was pretty impressive, too.

Oh yeah, did you guys here that Fred Phelps is going to protest the funerals of dead soldiers in Iraq? They're holding up signs saying "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" and passing out fliers saying "Thank God for IEDs"

[Link: www.washingtonpost.com...]

Here is one of their fliers that they are handing out:

[Link: www.godhatesfags.com...]

Remember, these are the same people who protested the funeral of Matthew Shephard, protested the funerals of firemen killed in 9/11, and thanked God for the tsunami because it killed so many heathens and "Fag Swedes". They also have a webpage called [Link: www.godhatesamerica.com...]

17 armyo3  Sun, Aug 28, 2005 3:17:21pm

Remember when Bill Clinton was walking out of Ron Brown's funeral laughing and joking and otherwise looking jovial--until he caught site of the camera, then got the somber, sullen, puppy dog eyes and pretended to wipe a tear away? I do.

18 Occasional Reader  Sun, Aug 28, 2005 3:18:09pm

Oh, this is priceless. Purr-riceless.

LONG LIVE THE NEW MEDIA. Hey moonbats, you can't get away with this deceptive bullshit anymore, bloggers is on yo' back!

As far as Cindy's "mourning", gosh, I had the displeasure of seeing her broadcast on Maher's show on Friday (which I soon switched off), she seemed to be having a ball. Seems her son being killed by islamfascists was the best thing that ever happened to her. Feh.

The hurricane Katrina and it's aftermath is much more relevant than this Crawford crawl. Louisiana and Missisippi deserves our attention, prayers and blessings now.

Jesus Christ, Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist church have a counter saying

Bloody butcher Bush thinks he can distract from these facts by taking over Babylon with his fag army. As a result of his foolishness, body bags are coming home by the truckload.

I already knew that no one involved in this had much shame, but this proves what I'd suspected, in my most cynical and angry moments.

None of them, not Sheehan, not her "supporters", certainly not Sharpton, and not the press, has the slightest proper shame.

Where's a nice bolt of lightning?

36 Beagle  Sun, Aug 28, 2005 3:27:49pm

I'm reminded of the famous quote which supposedly put a fork in McCarthy's career: "MSM, have you left no sense of decency?" As I attempted to explain to hrun, without success, the amount of coverage is how you determine the MSM agenda. Cindy Sheehan and the Left have unlimited powers of mass communication, but no movement.

The MSM continues to sap its own strength with manufactured events, manufactured public opinion, and manufactured stories. In journalism, manufacturing is a bad thing. Overt manipulation is no longer a secret. It only works if you keep it a secret.

Rev.Al and Momma Sheehan have more in common than meets the eye:

DEATH ON 125TH STREET: THE SCENE
In Nightmare of Anger,
Store Becomes Flaming Madhouse

By Robert D. McFadden

It was just after 10 o'clock and Harlem had begun like an orchestra to tune up for another great performance. Traffic rumbled. Stores were open. Sidewalk vendors were out. And people moved briskly in the cold December morning, headed for work or shops or favorite haunts, carrying bags like responsibilities.

Across from the famed Apollo Theater, on the southeast corner of 125th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, the gunman appeared out of nowhere at Freddie's Fashion Mart, a white-owned business that for months had been picketed and boycotted over a plan to expand that meant the eviction of a black-owned record shop next door. Feelings had run high. There had been threats.

The gunman was black, about 35 years old and 6 feet tall, and the police said he had on at least one occasion joined in picketing the store -- protests at which the police said another demonstrator had been heard 10 days ago threatening to "burn and loot the Jews." Freddie's is owned by Fred Harari, who is Jewish.

OT: Another "Rev" licks butt for the camera:

Rev. Jackson Lends Support to Chavez By CHRISTOPHER TOOTHAKER, Associated Press Writer

CARACAS, Venezuela - The Rev. Jesse Jackson offered support for President Hugo Chavez on Sunday, saying a call for his assassination by a U.S. religious broadcaster was a criminal act and that Washington and Venezuela should work out their differences through diplomacy.

The U.S. civil rights leader condemned last week's suggestion by Pat Robertson that American agents should kill the leftist Venezuelan leader, calling the conservative commentator's statements "immoral" and "illegal."

Jackson urged U.S. authorities to take action, and said the U.S. government must choose "diplomacy over any threats of sabotage or isolation or assassination."

"We must choose a civilized policy of rational conversation," he told reporters at a news conference.

Chavez, a self-styled "revolutionary," has repeatedly accused President Bush's government of planning to overthrow him. He warned Friday that some American leaders have considered killing him.

U.S. officials have repeatedly denied such claims.

Not even Tom Wolfe could have dreamt of this circus.

The Left, the Press, Cindy, and now, the Rev! It is theater, parody, and increasing, it is becoming the closest thing the Left has to Religion (the symbolism of the cross is no accident). Cindy, the democratic Saviour; Maureen and the MSM, the Apostles; Dubya as the Devil... It is theater. Very bad theater, but still theater. So bad, in fact, I expect this show to be closing soon. If it was even passable theater, Jimmy and Bill would be there. They aren't because it isn't.

The Wreck of the Cindy Sheehan (from Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald)

The legend lives on from Dan Rather on down
Of the big ranch they called 'Crawford, Texas'
The Ranch, it is said, always becomes a nexus
When the moonbats of August turn gloomy

With a load of reporters twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Cindy Sheehan weighed empty.
That moobat ship was a bone to be chewed
When the moonbats of August came early.

The ship was the pride of the leftist side
Coming from a California suburb
As the batty ships go, it was battier than most
With crew and publicist well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of ad firms
They left foreseeing their fame
But later that month when David Duke came
Could it be the Nazis they’d been feedin’?

The protest in the heat made a cry-baby sound
As they marched to the Ranch's fencin'
And Moonbats knew, as the publicist did too,
Protests in August are sizzlin’.

The cameras weren’t late; they didn’t have to wait
When the Moonbats of August came marchin’.
The President met, but didn’t waiver
In the face of the Moonbat west wind.

When Labor Day comes, Dan Rather comes on deck sayin’,
Fellas, the ratings are laggin’.
When the ratings sweep and Sheehan’s the doormat, he says
Fellas, it’s been good t’know ya
The publicist wires in he had no ads comin’ in
And the moonbats and crew are in peril.
And later this month when the camera lights fade
Comes the wreck of the Cindy Sheehan.

Most people know where the love of God goes
When a hero leaves his mother for his country
But the pundits all say they’d have stayed home instead
If Kerry had just won Ohio.
They might have split up or they might have consoled,
Had a democrat been in office.
But all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the heroes and the soldiers and the trustworthy.

Moonbats think their superiority sings
In the rooms of their blue state mansions.
but the truth my friends is a young man who served,
and sacrificed for the freedom of others.
For the Tree of Liberty to be refreshed
It will take what America can send her,
And as taps is played, all the soldiers will know
What the moonbats of August can’t remember.

Yet in a musty old hall in New York they cried,
In the moonbat’s newspaper-cathedral.
The front page whined on the New York Times
Only for the likes of Cindy Sheehan.

The legend lives on from Dan Rather on down
Of the big ranch they ranch they call ‘Crawford, Texas.’
The ranch, it is said, always becomes a nexus
When the moonbats of August turn gloomy.

I am sometimes amused by the street theater, that has unfolded near President Bush's ranch.
I am not amused by the dishonor brought to Casey Sheehan, and his fallen comrades, whose names are inscribed on the crosses, in front of these opportunistic ghoul's.
In honor of Casey Sheehan, and all of the service men and women, that have given all or some, they have my deepest admiration and respect, and I dedicate the following:

Poetry of Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Sonnets from the Portuguese
XXVI

I lived with visions for my company
Instead of men and women, years ago,
And found them gentle mates, nor thought to know
A sweeter music than they played to me.
But soon their trailing purple was not free
Of this world's dust, their lutes did silent grow,
And I myself grew faint and blind below
Their vanishing eyes. Then thou didst come--to be,
Beloved, what they seemed. Their shining fronts,
Their songs, their splendours, (better, yet the same,
As river-water hallowed into fonts)
Met in thee, and from out thee overcame
My soul with satisfaction of all wants:
Because God's gifts put man's best dreams to shame.

109 Beagle  Sun, Aug 28, 2005 4:35:47pm

I knew that Phelps and crowd had a site called 'god hates fags.com' (the tone of that site is a shrill, hate-filled rant, which is awful), but he hates America too? What an absolute jerk.

The link in your post did not work. I hope mine does: God Hates America.com

At the bottom, left hand side of his page, it reads:
Number of Americans who have entered hell as result of this bloody takeover of Babylon:
1,822

-- and he's glad about that. He's happy that American military personnel are dead, according to other statements on that page.

I don't understand this kind of rhetoric on his page:
"This is the picture that America deserves [coffins draped with American flags]. Get used to it! You worship at the fag altar, you get boxes draped in your fag flag coming home!"

-were any of the military personnel who died in Iraq homosexual? I doubt any of them were, so why is he condemning all of them anyway? Makes no sense.

Not all Americans are "fags" as he puts it, so the American flag is not representative of the homosexual community anyhow - they use the rainbow flag.

How does Phelps know that all 1,822 or any of the 1822 are in hell? He also claims that Ronald Reagan is in Hell.

Oddly enough, there's a link off to the left on his site that says "God hates Sweden." - wth?

From #165 FlipFlops link. Good writing...

Were you aware that the rest of Casey Sheehan's family--equally grieving in their time of loss--want people to know, in no uncertain terms, that not only do they disagree with her actions, but they believe Casey would have, too? Here's the public statement they issued:

The Sheehan family lost our beloved Casey in the Iraq War and we have been silently, respectfully grieving. We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the expense of her son's good name and reputation. The rest of the Sheehan family supports the troops, our country, and our president, silently, with prayer and respect.

Ms. Sheehan may be right in her assessments of Iraq or Mr. Bush. But so might Mr. Qualls. We're done a disservice by the press when the overwhelming majority of the focus is on one or the other side, when we are quickly informed that "Camp Casey" has been visited by anti-war activist Joan Baez--but not that grassfire.org, a conservative group, has collected 400,000 signatures supporting Mr. Bush's policies and also is operating in Crawford.

But journalism trumpets objectivity as its watchword. The presentation of both sides is crucial to the concept of a fair press, one not driven by an agenda. The coverage given to Cindy Sheehan, and the comparative absence of showing the other perspective, is not what good journalism is made of.

Google search tally: 4,970,000 references for "Cindy Sheehan," with 83,400 for "Gary Qualls"--now 83,401.

LOL! I had this e-mail argument with the president of the local “Secular Society” who had argued that crosses on the roadside, left as memorials by grieving relatives constituted the encroachment of religiopn and should not be allowed to remain there. He said it that would encourage more mourners to place their memorials along the roadside and was a sure sign of how our nation was becoming a theology.

I told him the only thing these were a sure sign of, was that that particular stretch of road was in need of improvement.

Re #36:

As I attempted to explain to hrun, without success, the amount of coverage is how you determine the MSM agenda.
