Yemen Editor Faces Death Penalty for Cartoons

Wed, Mar 8, 2006 at 5:12:28 pm PST

A Yemeni newspaper editor is on trial for his life after publishing the Danish Mohammed cartoons: Yemen editor ‘faces death calls’.

Yemeni prosecutors have called for a newspaper editor to be sentenced to death for showing cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad, his paper says.

Muhammad al-Asadi was arrested after his publication, the Yemen Observer, showed the Danish cartoons in February.

He denies the charges of offending Islam, under which he is being tried.

As a precedent for putting this editor to death, the prosecution cited the example of Mohammed himself.

The paper’s website reported that the prosecution lawyers cited precedents from Muslim history when the prophet was insulted by a woman and then praised her killer.

And yet, we're still hoping for a "reformation" of islam. Just don't look to its founder for any support for that hope.

With each passing day, with each story reflecting the madness and perversity that is called Islam, I grow more and more horrified. Then, I become even more puzzled and distraught by the seeming inability of our vaunted Western civilization to call this the monstrosity it is.

All the Muslims have to do is keep it up. Those of us that get our news from the internet and blogs still make up a very small part of the population. But all the riots, beheadings, the burkas, lopping off hands are making its way into livingrooms Worldwide. At some point the major stations will have to cover the insanity that is Islam. And all that has to happen is for Muslims to continue to be Muslims. They are their own worst adveertizement. Its perfect.

That is an unbelievably brave stand for that Yemeni man to take. The society there is particularly harsh. Very little robbery - because hands get chopped off for stealing. Tongues get cut out for lying to officials. Public lashings. I wish there was some way someone could help him.

GOP House Panel Votes to Block Ports Deal
By LIZ SIDOT Mar 8, 8:04 PM (ET)

WASHINGTON (AP) - In a congressional election-year repudiation of President Bush, a House panel dominated by Republicans voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to block a Dubai-owned firm from taking control of some U.S port operations. Democrats clamored for a vote in the Senate, too.

By 62-2, the House Appropriations Committee voted to bar DP World, run by the government of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, from holding leases or contracts at U.S. ports. The landslide vote was the strongest signal yet that more than three weeks of White House efforts to stunt congressional opposition to the deal have not been successful.

Bush has promised to veto any such measure passed by Congress. But there is widespread public opposition to the deal and the GOP fears losing its advantage on the issue of national security in this fall's elections.

The White House said the president's position was unchanged.

They are their own worst adveertizement.

About a year after September 11th, there was a news article indignant because a recent poll showed that Americans had a more negative view of Islam than before.

They wondered how this could possibly be, when there had been so much education about Islam in the preceding year.

In their world, ignorance and only ignorance causes negative opinions about a group, so it was inconceivable that the American people could be learning more about Islam and thinking less of it.

The Quran reported to the Police

A broad alliance of grass-roots movements have gone to the prosecutors of several states to hinder the dissemination of the Quran. According to the indictment, the Quran is not just a religious and historic book, but also a political book, which is incompatible with the constiution. The decisive count of the indictment “is in the Quran’s status vis a vis the Federal Republic of Germany’s constitution”. In the appendices to the indictment, 200 points have been listed “where the Quran is against and claims itself above the constitution.” The indictment is against the 200 verses of 114 suras (ED:chapters) of the Quran that are not compatible with the constitution, including demagoguery, incitement to murder, murder and mutilation, war, acceptance of thievery against infidels, meaning all non-Moslems. Verses are also pointed out where the equal rights of men and women are not upheld and where people of different faiths are oppressed.

This has been tried before, in India:

The Calcutta Quran Petition

Koenraad Elst: Banning the Quran?

There is even grimmer reading, however, in dozens of Quran verses that go further than mere doctrinal disputation and actually enjoin the Muslims to go out and fight the ‘infidels.’ The core text of Islam is not merely disrespectful towards other religions, it extols killing and glorifies dying in the war against the non-Muslims. If the text of the Quran should not be clear enough, one must bear in mind that it is a companion volume to Muhammad’s life story as a religious leader and military conqueror. Consequently, if one should have doubts about the meaning of jihad, literally ‘effort’ but in practice ‘war against the infidels,’ one need merely put the verses in their real-life context. Muhammad understood and used the term unambiguously in the sense of ‘war,’ not some ethereal or metaphorical ‘struggle against the evil in ourselves’ but an actual war involving horses, weapons, stratagems and blood. The Quran explicitly teaches hatred, hostility and the use of force against other religions and their adherents. By KifKif’s own standards, it clearly exceeds the “limits of freedom of expression.”

Yemenis seek compensation in cartoon row

Yemeni Islamist lawyers filed a suit yesterday demanding compensation for “psychological damages” from three journalists on trial for reprinting cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

The 10 lawyers said they suffered after seeing the controversial images, which the journalists say they republished to show Muslims how insulting they were, not to deride the Prophet (PBUH).

“We demand the journalists pay a large compensation for the psychological damages they inflicted upon us when they printed these images that insulted our beloved Prophet,” one of the lawyers said, reading from a document in court.

...Muslim history when the prophet was insulted by a woman and then praised her killer.

From the Sirat Rasul Allah, by Ibn Ishaq (A. Guillaume's translation "The Life of Muhammad") page 675, 676:

"UMAYR B. ADIYY'S JOURNEY TO KILL ASMA D. MARWAN
"She was of B. Umayyya b. Zayd. When Abu Afak had been killed she displayed disaffection. Abdullah b. al-Harith b. Al-Fudayl from his father said that she was married to a man of B. Khatma called Yazid b. Zayd. Blaming Islam and its followers she said:
"I despise B. Malik and al-Nabit
and Auf and B. al-Khazraj.
You obey a stranger who is none of yours,
One not of Murad or Madhhij. {1}
Do you expect good from him after the killing of your chiefs
Like a hungry man waiting for a cook's broth?
Is there no man of pride who would attack him by :
And cut off the hopes of those who expect aught from him?"
Hassan b. Thabit answered her:
"Banu Wa'il and B. Waqif and Khatma
Are inferior to B. al-Khazrahj.
When she called for folly woe to her in her weeping,
For death is coming.
She stirred up a man of glorious origin,
Noble in his going out and in his coming in.
Before midnight he dyed her in her blood
And incurred no guilt thereby."

When the apostle heard what she had said he said, "Who will rid me of Marwan's daughter?" Umayr b. Adiy al-Khatmi who was with him heard him, and that very night he went to her house and killed her. In the morning he came to the apostle and told him what he had done and he [Muhammad] said, "You have helped God and His apostle, O Umayr!" When he asked if he would have to bear any evil consequences the apostle said, "Two goats won't butt their heads about her", so Umayr went back to his people.

Now there was a great commotion among B. Khatma that day about the affair of bint [girl] Marwan. She had five sons, and when Umayr went to them from the apostle he said, "I have killed bint Marwan, O sons of Khatma. Withstand me if you can; don't keep me waiting." That was the first day Islam became powerful among B. Khatma; before that those who were Muslims concealed the fact. The first of them to accept Islam was Umayr b. Adiy who was called the "Reader", and Abdullah b. Aus and Khuzayma b. Thabit. The day after Bint Marwan was killed the men of B. Khatma became Muslims because they feared for their lives."

{1} The note reads "Two tribes of Yamani origin."

Hmmm, blasphemy laws, eh? Well, let's see. Does that mean all Christians can now take anyone on the street to court who they hear shout "G-- damnit!"...? Afterall, it is one of the 10 Commandments to not take the Name of the Lord your G-- in vain. It is blasphemy and goes against the basic 10 tenets of Christianity. And couldn't a Christian argue that hearing someone blaspheme their G-- was just so offensive to them?

I am not being serious here, as I, as a Christian, do not expect others to abide by the rules of my faith. However, if we are going to enforce sharia, how about we start enforcing the rules of Christianity too. No more taking the name of G-- in vain anywhere. Not in movies, not on TV, not the casual person on the street. The punishment, since one of the 10 commandments was broken, is death. How do you like that Dhimmi Media and Dhimmi LLLs?

"And yet, we're still hoping for a "reformation" of islam. Just don't look to its founder for any support for that hope."

I heard a blurb on the radio this morning that said a recent poll showed that half of Americans have an unfavorable view of islam. That is up from about 22% in 2002. The word is getting out. People are beginning to see the true islam, and they don't like it. I would imagine that all of the Left falls within the half that does not have an unfavorable view of islam; but if the poll question were to be altered just slightly, and to replace islam with Christianity, the Left would probably unanimously say they have a negative view of Christianity.

All I can point out is that to see the most obvious difference between Islamic and Judao/Christian values, compare Mo's praising of the killer of a woman who INSULTED her to David's reaction to a guy who helped his mortal enemy, King Saul, commit suicide.

Islam is poison, it seems.

The paper’s website reported that the prosecution lawyers cited precedents from Muslim history when the prophet was insulted by a woman and then praised her killer.

"Was Mohammed a Moderate Muslim?"
