Peugots too slow, French police get Subarus
Most European criminals will also no longer be able to claim that they did not understand police instructions in French -- the cars will relay their messages in a light display in five languages -- French, English, German, Spanish and Dutch --while there is room for three others.
I wonder which language will be added…

New zombie report just unveiled:
Cindy Sheehan speaking at U.C. Berkeley's International House.
It's a somewhat minor report, compared to some of my other stuff, but it does contain several entertaining moments.
Most importantly, pay attention to Footnote 2 -- perhaps the most devastating footnote ever! In it, I demonstrate that Cindy Sheehan is closely linked with the World Can't Wait movement (they sponsored this event), and prove that World Can't Wait is a front group for the Revolutionary Communist Party, which is basically nothing more than a Maoist cult.
I wouldn't feel the need to completely destroy Cindy Sheehan's credibility yet again like this, but the mainstream media keeps giving her a free pass and never mentions that she's in deep with the absolute worst and most dangerous elements of the "left."

Its nice to know that SOMEBODY likes this immigration bill. Congress is selling us down the river.

Money qoute:
"Some Mexican media outlets were even more euphoric, predicting final approval for the committee bill as drafted, and suggesting the weekend demonstrations showed Mexico still holds some sway over former territories which it lost in the 1846-48 Mexican-American War.
"With all due respect to Uncle Sam, this shows that Los Angeles has never stopped being ours," reporter Alberto Tinoco said on the Televisa television network's nightly news broadcast, referring to a Saturday march in Los Angeles that drew an estimated 500,000, mainly Mexicans."

Eh, the theme amongst many of the posts is that what was in the shadows is coming out in the open -- re: Borders "geez Muslims are dangerous -- and petty!"
re: the U.S. border -- "geez, the activists are out in left field -- we're not ceding land back to mexico!"
In the words of Han Solo -- "Bring 'em on -- I prefer a straight-up fight to all this sneaking around!"
And CAIR getting their ass handed to them in the lawsuit has got to be worth 10 posts of bad news alone!

#3: You are at war with Mexico. They are deliberately using massive immigration to conquer your territory, and your "leaders" are kneeling. It's just as Muslims are doing in Europe, only without the terrorism. In future encyclopedias it will say: USA: "Nation that existed until the 21st century. Had the strongest armed forces in human history. Was conquered and colonized by unarmed Mexicans between 1980 and 2030."

DID YOU HEAR THAT NO JEWS DIED ON 9/11?
This looks like an interesting film that has premiered at a variety of theatres across the nation. Any lizards see it yet?
Protocols of Zion will premiere on Cinemax on April 11th @ 7pm
ABOUT THE FILM:
Marc Levin gives us an explosive exploration of resurgent anti-Semitism in the wake of September 11th in PROTOCOLS OF ZION. Levin's film draws its inspiration from an encounter he had in a New York taxi not long after 9/11, in which his driver, an Egyptian immigrant, made the disturbing claim that the Jews had been warned not to go to work at the World Trade Center on the day of the attck. He then said that "It's all written in the book," referring to "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," a notorious forgery created 100 years ago this year, purporting to be the Jews' master plan to rule the world. Long ago, discreditied as a fake."The Protocols" was a crucial influence on Hitler, and has fueled hatred, violence, and ultimately genocide through the first half of the twentieth century.
Levin, the award-winning filmmaker, whose SLAM won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in 1998 discovered that today. "The Protocols" seem as popular as ever. . they are sold on Amazon and until recently at Wal-mart; they were just removed from the official web site of the Palestinian Authority; a couple of years ago, a dramatization aired to great success on Egyptian television. Deeply disturbed by this phenomenon, Levin embarks on a personal odyssey to learn more.
Armed with his camera and appearing on screen along with his subjects, Levin engages in a free-for-all dialogue with Arab Americans, Black nationalists, Christian evangelists, White supremacists, Kabbalist rabbis, Holocaust survivors, and the founder of the amazingly popular Jew Watch web site. Levin's genuinely curious and sometimes confrontational coversations combine to form a probing and provocative protrait of our so-called modern civilization caught in the grips of amost ancient hatred.

How would you like to pay for admission to the 9/11 WTC Museum when it is finally built? Well, that's a distinct possibility based on statements made by the head of the group building it. There would be no admission to the memorial, but a fee might be imposed for the museum that would have exhibits from that day and recall the terror and horror of 9/11.

That darn US bias for Israel is showing again:
US 'open' to Israel borders plan
The US secretary of state has said Washington may be open to backing Israel's Kadima party in drawing the country's borders unilaterally.
Condoleezza Rice said a negotiated deal with the Palestinians was preferable, but seemed unlikely since the militant group Hamas won Palestinian elections. But she added that there had been no chance to discuss the Israeli proposal.
It is the first time the US appears to have dropped its insistence that the conflict must be solved bilaterally.

Barbara Streisand was kinda hot back in the 1960s. I was too young then to appreciate hotness, but having seen a few movies on TV, I'd say back in my single days, (except by the then she was getting progressively un-hotter by the minute) if the Barbara Streisand from "On a Clear Day..." had come to my door with pizza and beer, she might have talked her way into my bedroom.

One of world’s oldest men celebrates 116 birthday
Pa Igboezu Asoegwu, believed to be one the world’s oldest men, is set to celebrate his 116th birthday at Utuh town near Nnewi, Anambra.
...Also speaking to newsmen Pa Asoegwu attributed his longevity to “God’s kindness as well as my efforts to lead a very simple and straight forward life”.
He said that he had never been to a hospital all through his life and that all his teeth were” still complete and intact”.
...All Pa Asoegwu’s 40 children are still alive and the eldest son, Dominic is 76.
He was converted to Christianity in 2005 at which ceremony he wedded his last and only surviving wife, aged about 60 years.
Never to old to convert, I guess. LOL.
Yes, he married a woman 56 years younger than him, but here's what caught my eye in the same article -
According to Guinness Book of Records, the oldest authenticated living man is Mr Emilliano Mercardo Del Toro of Puerto Rico, aged 113 years.
However, an Egyptian, Mr Mohammed al Wasimy, insists he was born in 1875 making him about 130 years (unofficially).
Mohammed married his wife, Fatima, in 1950 when he was 75 and she 14.
She was 61 years younger, but 14 years old!

OK a couple serious, somewhat related questions; and yes, we need to secure our borders. But:
1. )Current unemployment rate is 5%; IIRC correctly from college econ that is basically full employment. Which Americans are illegal immigrants taking jobs from?
2). I've heard many times that as the baby boomers retire, there won't be enough people in the workforce to support their Social Security benefit; the system will go bankrupt. Nobody has explained who will take all the jobs the boomers retire from. I'm pretty sure it won't be Spanish speaking semi educated 22 year olds from Oaxaca.

Distressed by the fact that Billy Bragg, whom I once liked, recast the lyrics of Dylan's "Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll" into a lamentation for a terrorist-assisting asshole, I was inspired last night to compose my own little broadside on the last moments of Rachel Corrie. Some might find it tasteless, I fear.
The Ballad Of Saint Pancake
To the tune of “The Battle of New Orleans”
In two-thou-and-three Rachel took a little trip,
With a bunch of other morons to the funky Gaza Strip.
She dressed like an Arab chick, hung out in Rafah town,
But the dumb bitch bit the dust when a dozer ran her down.
She stood her ground but the dozer kept a'comin,
She figured it would stop like it done a while ago.
She plunked her ass down when her friends began to runnin',
Dumb Rachel she just sat there, never dreamed she oughta go.
She ran her mouth off till her bullhorn melted down,
Then she burned the Stars'n'Stripes for the children of the town.
She filled their heads with foolishness and hatred of the Jews,
And when they blew Israelis up, applauded at the news.
She stood her ground but the dozer kept a'comin,
She figured it would stop like it done a while ago.
She plunked her ass down when her friends began to runnin',
Dumb Rachel she just sat there, cause the dozer moved so slow.
Old Rachel figured that they'd never hurt a blonde,
A blue-eyed shiksa who grew up across the pond.
She plumb forgot she was hidden out of sight,
Of the dozer operator who was sittin' at a height.
(con gusto)
Well, it cracked Rachel's skull and it broke Rachel's backbone,
A D-9 Cat ain't the kind of thing that jokes.
It squashed her so flat that she didn't need a coffin,
Just folded her in half and they mailed her to her folks.
She stood her ground but the dozer kept a'comin,
She figured it would stop like it done a while ago.
She plunked her ass down when her friends began to runnin',
Dumb Rachel she just sat there, she's a flapjack now, you know!
Dumb Rachel she just sat there, she's a flapjack now, you know!
Pour syrup on old Rachel, pass the coffee to me, Joe!
SPOKEN FADE: Hey, can I get me some bacon over here? I really could use some bacon... thanks... and maybe some more coffee when you come by... yeah... all right... what WAS that girl thinkin', anyway? Evergreen State? Oh... never mind...

I have an immigration questions:
Exactly what is involved in the current LEGAL immigration process (applications, meetings, screenings, etc.)?
Aren't the legitimate arguments for a legal immigration process as follows:
1. It's our country (sovereignty) so we can exclude whoever we want, and add desirable productive people to our population.
2. Screening for and keeping out undesirable people (criminals, enemies, and sick people -- No one mentions the disease concerns. Do we screen for diseases these days?).
All I hear is:
1. We can't kick out grandpa because he has been here a long time. I say he is a criminal, who had no right to be here in the first place. If we catch any American criminal after years of searching for him (assuming no statute of limitations applies), I don't care that he was working hard at a job and paying taxes. It is not an excuse. "Hey forget about raping that child. It looks like you were working as a gardner in Hollywood. Thanks for doing the work rich people don't want to do."
2. We need immigrants (they leave off the "illegal" part) to do the jobs Americans won't do. Maybe if we kick out the illegals, the employers will have to pay higher wages to Americans to do that work (supply and demand) Isn't that better than raising the minimum wage every so often?
3. Our economy will fail without the [illegal] immigrants. Yeah, right. Maybe we should import slaves to save even more money and help our businesses increase profits. Since when do liberals want to protect businesses? If a business knowingly employs illegals, they should be punished too.
If we replaced illegals with legals, we would have more tax payers who could be tracked. Don't Dems and Libs want more taxes?
If we have a bird flu or some other epidemic because we don't screen [illegal] immigrants, do you think the MSM and LLLs will give Bush a pass? They were all over him for not having enough flu vaccine available in the past.
This is all such politcal crap, with both parties trying to get as many votes as possible.
I think we should not prosecute any drug users who drive pizza delivery cars. Hell, they are just doing jobs no other Americans want to do.
I used to crawl through storm sewers to clean and repair them. Can I get a "get out of jail" card since most Americans don't want to do that work? I may need it some day.
The scary thing is that I have talked with illegal immigrants who work in Wisconsin, and admit to changing their fake ID for each new job after trips back to Mexico. Some take 2 or 3 trips b ack to Mexico each year. Talk about an open border.

This country has been going down hill ever since the 60's. Now I now how my Irish immigrant ancestors felt when they left Ireland 136 years ago. They too felt that their country was in an abyss and they left for a better life in America. They worked hard and were able to build a wonderful life for themselves and their children.
Now you come to America, get welfare, food stamps, citizenship and never have to work another day in your life. There will be no social security for myself or my wife thanks to our "NO BALLS" politians. We are going down the drain in a hurry.

I've answered those arguements by stating if we deport all illegal aliens and find that we truely *need* more workers, then all we have to do is raise our quota of legal immigrants from Mexico (or other places where those workers would come from).
We still get immigrants we need, but do it in a controlled and legal manner.

It's his likely successor Jose Manuel Lopez Obrador who is the Marxist mayor of Mexico's capital who is ready to greet Chavez and fellow leftists back to Mexico's presidential palace--and put up a statue of Castro no doubt!
Vicente Fox was the first NON-socialist to be Mexico's president in nearly 70 years. Fox also verbally slapped Chavez down recently, which we should have applauded as courageous in a Spanish speaking leader.

Airblast from Underground Explosions
Philip Hookham, Titan Research
Abstract:
Two- and three-dimensional computational fluid and solid dynamics calculations were performed to predict the airblast and dust environment for the DIVINE STRAKE high explosive field test. The DIVINE STRAKE test is planned to be a large-yield, buried burst detonated at the Nevada Test Site. The early-time airblast, crater formation, and ejecta environment were calculated using the two-dimensional CRALE code. This solution was then overlayed onto two- and three-dimensional MAZe code computational meshes. The MAZe calculations simulated the airblast environment as well as the propagation of the dusty environment produced by the ejecta and subsequent dust sweep-up. The airblast environment will be compared to test measurements when they become available, while the predicted dust environment will be used to aid in planning of the test.

Divine Strake is a high-explosive (HE) test sponsored by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and is scheduled for the summer of 2006 at the Nevada Test Site (NTS). The test is a detonation of a 700 ton buried heavy AN/FO charge above a tunnel structure. The main purpose of the test is to study ground shock effects on deeply buried tunnel structures. Of secondary interest is the airblast produced by a buried charge and its modification as it propagates over the local terrain.

Immigration thing: my personal opinion
It is obvious that we need some kind of "guest worker" program. With the aging and retirement of the boomers, it has been estimated that the US will lose up to 30% of it's workforce over a 15-year period. There are not as many younger workers entering the workforce as there are older workers leaving it. The old employment (or better, unemployment) paradigms of the 70's through 90's as the boomers were fully in the workforce are no longer going to hold. Unemployment isn't going to be the issue for kids currently in school that it was for boomers when they were in school.
We currently have an economy with millions of illegals working yet we still have an unemployment rate around 5% which is pretty darned good. In other words, there is no evidence that illegals are currently taking jobs away from legals in any staticically significant number. To put it another way, our economy is currently in a position to be able to absorb an influx of additional labor so ...
Rather than have millions of illegals not paying taxes and not paying into Social Security, it would be better for everyone to create some kind of program where they could help support the retiring boomers. Not passing the law isn't going to make them go home. There are millions already here, and there likely always will be because even if we put up an absolutely transit-proof fence, the ones that are here would more likely just stay instead of going home for a visit and coming back across.
To put it another way ... not passing a guest worker program won't change the number of illegals here, it just means that A: they will continue not paying taxes and B: they will continue to be taken advantage of by people who would threaten to turn them in to immigration for not working for below market wages. Illegals are often crime victims and afraid to report it.
I am for allowing them FULL participation in our economy and that includes being able to pay their share of taxes without fear. Their kids use the schools just like everyone elses, they should have the opportunity to pay for those services and I have reason to believe that many of them WANT to be legal workers.

I heard the argument that the republicans must bear in mind the possibility of a commie Mexican president when they decide on a policy of immigration. We shouldn't shut out the Mexicans in the fear it could turn their opinions against us and vote for him. Their election can go either way. We legalize the illegals to appease the Mexicans in the hope they don't vote Chavezesque...but they could still vote the goon in anyway...guess what? Tons more illegals scattering to get away from the chavez wannabee. I say we think of our country first...we shouldn't write our law based on their politics. It is a swamp. Bolt the border in the eventuality of them going commie, and if they don't, well then we can deal better either way.

I go to icasualties.org every day to find out whose families to keep in my prayers.
Every life lost is sad, even when fighting for a noble cause. However, it looks like in the month of March, our average daily loss-of-life is 1. Down from two last month, and the lowest in nearly two years.
I'm sure the MSM is all over this promising trend.

Your post is very thoughtful and has some merit. There are anywhere between 15 and 25 illegals currently residing in this country and more coming across every day. Our border to the South is the equivalent of Swiss Cheese.
Letting them pay taxes will not alleviate the more serious issues of how these illegals have full access to free health care, free public schools, and they do not have automobile insurance and drive without a license. All of us pick up these costs and it is a burden. There are over 48 million Citizens who cannot afford health insurance, who risk bankruptcy, losing their homes if serious illness or accident were to happen.
The illegals have a safety net. It is far more an issue than letting them pay taxes. I haven't even addressed of the violent gang members who are illegals nor the huge trafficking in illegal drugs nor the burden on the court systems.

Walt was going to leave before Protocols hit the street:
Martin Peretz wrote today:
"Professor Walt is vacating his position as academic dean of the Kennedy School in June. Even though he decided to leave the job of his own volition some time ago, Harvard should be grateful for his departure from this seat. An academic dean is supposed to be the shepherd of his faculty's (and his students') respect for evidence and scholarship. Having traduced the rules of evidence and the spirit of scholarly inquiry, he can no longer perform this function. Regrettably, Walt will not likely suffer any crueler fate than this. He has tenure, and tenure insulates one from all kinds of infractions against truth and honor."
Read the whole thing. It's quite good:

Wow! But that article implies that Walt is stepping down because of the uproar over that stupid report. That may not be the case. Also, this phrase
After a furious outcry from prominent American Jews,
makes the whole thing read as tho Walt has been demoted because he pissed of the Jews - thereby giving Walt's paper credibility it doesn't deserve.
Example: Hitch is not a Jew by any stretch and he just wiped the floor with their asses.

The Christian Science Monitor has a good article laying out the several reason why the much ballyhooed Iranian Oil Bourse (Moonbat fantasy theory #374) will have no effect on the US dollar.
The idea that Iran refusing to ship the US oil would somehow reduce the amount of oil in world markets is fantasy. Here is what would really happen:
Country A normally buys Iranian oil. Iran stops selling oil to Country A. Country B buys the Iranian oil. Country B had been buying oil from Nigeria. Now Nigeria has extra oil to sell. Country A now buys their oil from Nigeria.
There is nothing special about Iranian oil. It can be replaced by Mexican oil or Nigerian oil or Alaskan oil.
BUT ... Iran's main source of income is oil. If they don't sell any, they go broke and are swimming in crude and lots of their workers are suddenly idle and not getting a paycheck ... and ... Iran has almost no refining capacity. The gasoline and diesel that powers their cars, trucks, and planes comes from foreign refineries. In other words, Iran sells crude and buys gasoline. They are playing with a knife that cuts two ways. Iran needs the rest of the world to buy their oil as much as the rest of the world needs to buy it.
BUT what is also likely to happen ... world oil prices are set on a commodities exchange. If Iran threatens to cut oil off, speculators will jump into the market and bid the price up to levels having nothing to do with supply and demand. The price of crude that refiners must pay to make gasoline is the price on the commodity exchange, not what it costs to produce. Oil companies do not set the price of oil, the exchanges do. Same with refined gasoline. If you think gas is going to go up, you can buy futures contracts and controll millions of gallons of gasoline for future delivery. Many speculators will enter this market and push the price of gasoline up on the markets. This will push pump prices up and have nothing to do at all with supply, at first. Then if supply doesn't fall, the prices will come back down and the last person to buy the futures at stupidly high prices will be left holding the bag and forced to either sell the contract at a loss, or take delivery. Imagine your neighbor trying to figure out what to do with 100,000 gallons of gasoline! It's happened before.

Patriots, Then and Now - Peggy Noonan
We fought a war to free slaves. We sent millions of white men to battle and destroyed a portion of our nation to free millions of black men. What kind of nation does this? We went to Europe, fought, died and won, and then taxed ourselves to save our enemies with the Marshall Plan. What kind of nation does this? Soviet communism stalked the world and we were the ones who steeled ourselves and taxed ourselves to stop it. Again: What kind of nation does this?
Only a very great one. Maybe the greatest of all.
Do we teach our immigrants that this is what they're joining? That this is the tradition they will now continue, and uphold?
Do we, today, act as if this is such a special place? No, not always, not even often. American exceptionalism is so yesterday. We don't want to be impolite. We don't want to offend. We don't want to seem narrow. In the age of globalism, honest patriotism seems like a faux pas.
And yet what is true of people is probably true of nations: if you don't have a well-grounded respect for yourself, you won't long sustain a well-grounded respect for others.

"There has to be a stop to the use of this vague concept of 'trouble-makers'. It's not gratuitous violence. It's a way of expressing a political point of view, as happened in the suburbs in November," a student who gave her identity as Halima told AFP reporters..."We all want to break the system, whether the violence is physical or symbolic," Halima said...Police said the arrests were for assault, muggings, theft and vandalism. Several of those detained were carrying iron bars, pickaxe handles, chisels, tear gas canisters or knives, they said.
I would think the coverage will now die down, since they broke into the news agency. Lovely "youths" you have there, France.

In your web based story titled "Paris shops bear brunt of riots" your reporter ends the story with this sentence...
"Who are they? Ask any shopkeeper, and they will tell you that they are the same youths of immigrant origin who rioted across France's impoverished suburbs in November."
Now... for the sake of journalistic integrity and your job to report facts... let's say the words all together... ready...
"Muslim youths... Muslim youths."
Now that wasn't so hard was it.
Next week we will work on the phrase...
"The BBC are dhimmi's... The BBC are dhimmi's."

How much longer is the world going to push forward with blinders on? I am tired of the media making believe that the problem is just misguided youths.
The problem is millions of people who have become a fifth column amoung us. And they are ready to do anything it takes to dhimmify us (or to simply kill us).

Another good tune for modification is the Kris Kristofferson ballad popularized by Janis Joplin, Me and Bobby McGee:
Me and Some Homicidal Nut
Bulldozed flat in Ramah town
Now I'm just a stain
Feeling near as faded as my genes
Ahmed thumbed a blue bus down
'Cause he was insane
Blew himself into tiny smithereens
I got my ideals
From my dingy red background
I was burning flags
While Ahmed turned to goo
Lured by the hate of Palestine
His life was wasted just like mine
Because nothing bugs us like a Jew
Freedom's just another thing that we don't understand
Nothin' ain't worth nothin' except ideology
And feeling good was easy, Lord
When I thought I knew it all
And feeling good was good enough for me
'Til I got flattened by heavy machinery
etc.

I haven't even addressed of the violent gang members who are illegals nor the huge trafficking in illegal drugs nor the burden on the court systems.
While there are many illegals involved in such activity, we have seen that in our history with just about every immigrant group that has come to this country. The Irish had some pretty violent gangs, so did the Italians. The Russian mafia is pretty big in some areas of the US too.
OVERALL the Mexican immigrants have a strong work ethic, a string spiritual constitution, strong families, and don't get involved in crime at the rate of other ethnic groups. One of the reasons that the US violent crime rate is now HALF what it was in 1995 and teen crime is down SEVENTY FIVE PERCENT has been attributed to the black inner city population becoming more prosperous and successful over time and moving out to the suburbs. They are being replaced by latin and asian groups who are less angry, have strong family traditions going back generations concerning education, hard work, and taking personal responsibility for your success.
I lived for several years in Southern California in a residential area. There was a pair of latin men that would go door to door EVERY SINGLE DAY asking if there was any work to be done. They would do anything, lawn/landscaping, debris removal, painting, whatever you needed labor for, they would work. A couple of months later I noticed that they were no longer on foot and were riding bikes. A couple of months after that, they had an old blue beat up station wagon and now has some tools like mowers, clippers, hammers, etc. They also had women who I assumed were their wives and now their service offering included housework, laundry, window washing, etc. Over the course of a year I watched those two guys bust their asses. They worked hard, never stole a thing from anyone. If I left a dollar bill on the dresser and had the ladies do some dusting, that dollar was right where I left it.
I have nothing but respect for those guys and the millions of others like them who are NOT allergic to work, who don't blame anyone else for their lot in life and are just wanting a chance to work hard and succeed just like everyone else that has come to this country. Many have quite literally risked their lives to get here.

The bottom line for me is that the economic situation in this country is changing. I am not for granting citizenship, just for allowing some mechanism for taking a vast under-the-table economy and bringing it above board. Many would be less likely to be pressed into drugs and prostitution if they had a legitimate way out too.
Many of the laws on the books reflect the economic situation in place when they were written. As the boomers entered the job market, employment for all of them was a big issue. Economic conditions are on the verge of a big change and one of the great benefits of our system of government is that we can adapt to changing conditions. The laws need to change to reflect the current economic reality. Sometimes we need to act with more thought and try to work through the emotional.

No one is getting emotional. People need to realize that there are now anywhere from 15 - 25 million illegals in this country. Our social services cannot keep up, nor can our healthcare systems, our court systems or our school systems. It all comes out of our pocketbooks, the higher auto insurance, health insurance, property taxes. With all the baby boomers retiring we are sliding into a bankrupt system of too many people living off some government assistance.
Why even have a border? Millions cross over every year, illegally in California, New Mexico, and Texas.

crosspatch has a good point about the hard-working individuals, but I've encountered lazy ones, too. And there are criminals among them, just as you would get with any large group like that.
My main beef is with the Mexican Government (the one under the flag that the marchers were waving the other day) making things so untenable as to encourage them to flee what could be a thriving economy.
So it's hard for me to generalize -- good or bad -- about that large a number of people. The attendant problems of unchecked millions of people are the same. And I worry about the corruption that drove them here simply setting itself up here.

What kind of a lousy country gets rid of such wonderful hardworking people? What kind of a marxistcommunist philosophy would force such folks to run for their lives to the place their citizens call EVIL AmericaCapitalista?
Our problem is their country's corrupt system and philosophy--marxist greed is good for the guys at the top ONLY--there's no opportunity to escape poverty or reach middle class for hardworking poor people.

Yeup, let's reward those here in the process daily of breaking federal laws installed to protect the country and its citizens. Let's tell them, you go boy! Let's reward them for breaking laws. What makes you assume they'll be law abiding if rewarded for the laws they've already broken?
Nice reward for those who came to this country legally, paying thousands of dollars to do so.
Just like my nephews wife who is legally here from Mexico.
And by all means show those wannabees just waiting to cross over illegally, hey lookee here you can get rewarded for breaking United States federal laws!
We went through this crap back in the '80s, and it encouraged more to break the law.
Great idea, lets all jump on the breaking the law band wagon.

His death, like those of Arafat and the other thugs throughout history, cannot come soon enough. Thanks.. I just bookmarked both links.. here is a quote from Frontpage:
(
3) Economic parasitism—to maintain and increase the flow of billions of dollars that Mexicans in the U.S. send back to their relatives at home every year, a major factor keeping the chronically troubled Mexican economy afloat and the corrupt Mexican political system cocooned in its status quo.
This segues perfectly into Alegrias' posts on the political situation in Mexico. And I have to agree with you on the spread of corruption into the US.. it is already here. People have no idea that ranchers down along the border where intimidated into selling off land that had been in their families for generations to drug cartels.
Last year in Nuevo Laredo, a border town in Texas a house was attacked by drug dealers using rocket propelled grenade launchers, grenades, assault rifles...
Dozens of American citizens have gone missing in this border town, many of them kidnapped and most likely, murdered.

US to test 700-tonne explosive
The US military plans to detonate a 700 tonne explosive charge in a test called "Divine Strake" that will send a mushroom cloud over Las Vegas, a senior defense official said...
Tegnelia said the test was part of a US effort to develop weapons capable of destroying deeply buried bunkers housing nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.
"We have several very large penetrators we're developing," he told defense reporters.
"We also have -- are you ready for this - a 700-tonne explosively formed charge that we're going to be putting in a tunnel in Nevada," he said.
"And that represents to us the largest single explosive that we could imagine doing conventionally to solve that problem," he said.
The aim is to measure the effect of the blast on hard granite structures, he said...
"We're also making sure that Las Vegas* understands," Tegnelia said.
*Oh, and maybe Teheran will get the message too?

When I have the time and I'm in the mood, I forward them to the FTC.
Once I got spam advertising child porn. I reported that one to the FBI. It was from a server in Israel and had an email address in Russia (or vice-versa), and I'm not the only one who reported it, because a child porn ring that fit the description was shut down a few months later.
What I find annoying is how hard it can be to report phishing attempts. Once I got one from a major bank whose name begins with Ci. They told me where to send it, but I got a rejection notice that it was stuck in a spam filter and gave up. You want the spam to go to the "report phishing" email addresses! They have since fixed the problem.

I have no problem with LEGAL immigrants. The big things I want are: knowledge of who is coming in, English as a national language, and assimilation. There are people in my neighborhood that are immigrants (not Mexican) who don't seem to like us. I wonder WHY they are here? We had an illegal HAZMAT driver's license ring running out of Pittsburgh. ALL/Most of the criminals were IRAQIS. This was BEFORE 9/11. They got slapped on the wrists. Then there's the illegal Chinese. The Chinese "students," who have their tuition paid for by the Chinese military... It is a disaster. BOTH parties have been incredibly careless. I just hope when the next attack comes, as few people as possible die. Their blood will be on our govt's hands. Executive, Legislative & Judicial. Democrat & Republican. All (except for a handful of Republicans) are guilty of negligence.

Plus, illegal immegrants depress wages of currently employed workers. I have a good friend who is an excellent roofer. He is the hardest (and fastest!) worker I know, and takes great pride in the quality of his work. Just FYI, Spain's former Generalissimo Francisco Franco was no friend of Fidel Castro or any other Marxistcommunist whom he fought a bloody civil war to rout from Spain.
MarxistMexico hated Franco, for example.
Franco worked with the USA from WWII until he died in 1975, granted us military bases and welcoming Hemingway, Sinatra, Ava Gardner and all sorts of Westerners and Americans who lived and loved there.
Lastly, Franco returned Spain to prosperity, modernity and civilian constitutional rule without another war. His latterday MarxistSocialist red diaper baby succesors are the ones digging Spain's grave today.

Regarding the fact that some illegal aliens are criminals, remember that Bugsy Siegel was jewish. So were several other very scary gangsters. Several were foreign born.

Yes as a matter of fact I do have positive view of Franco--I owe him my life because he was ruthless about beating the anticlerical marxistcommunists who caused my grandmother to miscarry when communists came to her door looking for my grandfather for the crime of being a ...business man in Spain.
Franco worked with the US to end Spain's post-islamic decline and bring democracy back in 1939, versus 1991 for communist-held countries.

Mortar attack destroys religious sect’s radio station in Pakistan
A mortar fired by Pakistani security forces destroyed a radio station, ending controversial broadcasts that had sparked deadly gunbattles between armed supporters of two religious factions this week, witnesses said on Thursday. The attack late Wednesday on the small FM radio station _ during a broadcast of a religious sermon _ slightly injured 15 people in the northwestern tribal town of Bara, said Mangal Bagh Afridi, a leading supporter of the cleric who had set up the station three years ago.

But...but...if we buy Mexico, wouldn't that mean we are going to have to tear down that imperialistic fence along the southern border that keeps the Hondourans, and Salvadorians out?
We think alike.. I considered including this same scenario in my post..
Funny, but it's true. Two Hondurans were arrested in Mexico on a bus.. because a week earlier robbers dressed as clowns held up a bus..
The Hondurans were trying to make their way illegally through Mexico to the US, dressed as clowns.. they were former circus performers.. when they got on the bus the people thought they were the robbers..
The police ended up arresting the two men, the bus driver and the owner of the bus company

High school students. Seriously. When I was helping out with our teen group from church last year, all I kept hearing about in our small group was how hard it was to find a part time job that paid enough to cover car insurance and gas.
I am an adult and finding a PART TIME job that would cover our car insurance and gas would be hard to do. That sort of conveys to me a wrong way of approaching things. If you can't afford car insurance and as much gas as you want to burn on part time employment, you need to either change your employment or your expectations. I don't see it written into the constitution where either of those things are a right. It doesn't even say that life has to be fair. You have to bust your ass. If you can't afford the insurance, hoof it, ride a bike, use the bus ... oh, right, those forms of transport are for the commoners.
I don't mean to dis your friend, I am saying I see this attitude a lot. The attitude of "I have this set of expectations but I am only willing to exert a certain amount of effort to achieving them and since I can't meet the expectatations with that level of effort or sacrifice, I am going to be bitter about it".
I say it's crap. If someone wants something bad enough they will find a way if they have the gumption.
And the market is trying to tell your friend the roofer something. It is telling him that he needs to go down to Home Depot, grab a few from that Casual Labor line to make a crew and go into the roofing business on his own rather than try to compete with those casual laborers as an employee. He is a good roofer, he could make sure his guys do a good job. He can charge the same as others using migrant labor and do better quality work. If you charge a good price for a good job, word will get around and people will seek you out. I owned my own business for several years (inhereted from my Dad who built it himself) and had all the work I could do. Dad taught me that if you are run over with more work than you can do, you aren't charging enough. If business is always slack, you are charging more than the value people place on your service.
Yeah, the world doesn't always work the way we wish it would. You can complain about that, or pay attention to conditions and adapt. Those that do that do well. The ones that sit around and complain end up doing that pretty well too.

True. In the article the test planner referred to points on a curve and computer modelling. My guess is the purpose of this test is to measure the effects of a huge shaped charge explosion and the data from that, and other tests, will be used to design actual weapons.
Considering what a 20 lb shaped charge can do to an armoured vehicle, imagine what a 700 ton shaped charge will do to granite.
Kinda makes me go...hmmm...

While I can understand your personal gratitude-Franco was not a nice person, or "good" leader. He aligned himself with Hitler, allowing the Nazis to use Spanish naval bases-and only became "neutral" in 1943 when it was pretty clear that the Allies would be winning the war.
He also had some pretty heavy duty prison camps, and his disgusting mausoleum was built with slave labour.
German trains also ran on time in Nazi Germany.

Get excited about the lack of security on the border, get excited about social costs, get excited about all the other issues and the hell of exploitation a lot of illegals suffer. But the criminal issue is a red herring.
33% - 40% of our state prison population are illegal alliens when illegal aliens make up only 4%-5% of our total population.
They are an EXCESSIVELY criminal group when compared to the normal population Dianna.
In Los Angeles, over 90% of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total over 1,200) target illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens.

Simple solution. We impose an oil tax on every illegal Mexican immigrant and send the bill to Fox (on a quarterly basis so it woun't be too onerous on the Mexican government). Since we import about 10,000,000 barrels of oil of day, we can set the tax 2 barrels per person per day (at current prices that's about $50,000 per person per year). At 5,000,000 illegals, there's goes our dependency on foreign oil.

Germans Arrest Man in $2 Million Jill Carroll Extortion Plot
German authorities have arrested a man who is accused of trying to extort $2 million from the Christian Science Monitor by promising to win the release of American reporter Jill Carroll, who was freed from captivity in Baghdad Thursday.
...
David Cook, chief of the paper's Washington bureau, alerted the FBI in an effort to determine if the person on other end of the e-mails really could help find Carroll, the court papers said. FBI counterterrorism agents quickly decided he could not and turned the probe over to fraud investigators.
I'm guessing that since the CSM alerted the FBI the prospect of the paper paying a ransom look unlikely.

Which raises the question of why we would bother jailing these people and not deport them.

You need to read up on Spain's civil in the mid-1930s. Communists were mass murdering those who didn't fit their agenda. I recall my uncle telling me that 8,000 people were slaughtered, some of them children, outside of Madrid because they had relatives in the national army. Franco did alot for Spain, but he is is contantly villified by the left as a dictator, which is historically correct, without any context how that came to be. ''You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: When men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."]

South Korea has constructed a separation barrier between its territory and North Korea to obstruct any southward movement by the army of North Korea.
Morocco-
Morocco has constructed a separation barrier in Western Sahara and Morocco to keep the guerrilla fighters of Polisario out of Morocco and the economically interesting two-thirds of the Western Sahara.
Saudi Arabia-
Saudi Arabia has begun construction of a separation barrier or fence between its territory and Yemen to prevent the unauthorized movement of people and goods into and out of the Kingdom.

As I mentioned on a previous thread, I have a daughter who just went through all the training for the start-up of a brand-new Borders bookstore here. The word is that, no - there is no official policy on shelving the Qur'an/Koran. She did promise me to check and see how it is actually shelved. I'll report on that when she gets back to me.
Secondly, several have recommended "Celtic Woman" to me. Haven't seen or heard it, so I requested that same daughter (the Irish Step-Dance teacher) to check it out for me. She reported today that it was more modern/pop/New Age than Celtic, in her (well-educated) opinion. She also listened to the CDs released by several of the participants in the group, and said they were much the same. I have to trust her on this one, so I won't bother with it.

The death rate from conflict in northern Uganda, an area terrorized by a rebel army largely comprised of children, is three times higher than Iraq after the U.S-led invasion, according to a new report by leading humanitarian agencies.
The violent death rate for the region stands at 146 deaths per week, or .17 deaths per 10,000 each day. Incidences of violent death in Iraq after coalition forces invaded in 2003 were estimated at .052, said the report released Thursday by a cadre of more than 50 non-governmental organizations.

School's 'Holocaust' Experiment Upsets Parents
Dad: Son Cried Over Becoming Jew For Day
"He was forced to go to the back of the lunch line four times by an administrator," Tinnelly said.Tinnelly said the experiment upset his child.
"He was crying," Tinnelly said. "I said, 'What are you crying about?' He said, 'Daddy, I was a Jew today.'"
Other parents and children shared similar stories, Tinnelly said.
"They were told that they could not use the water fountains," Tinnely said. "There was even a sign supposedly at one water fountain (saying) if you're wearing a yellow star , you can't use this water fountain."
"This was supposed to be a creative way to teach the horrors of the Holocaust but unfortunately it has sparked controversy and more importantly it has sparked conversation," Reznick said. "We have now heard from nearly a dozen parents (who are) very upset."
Tinnelly said he believes it is important to teach the Holocaust, but apparently little was learned during the experiment.
"I tried to talk to my son and I asked all of these questions and the only thing he said is, 'Daddy, the only thing I found out today is I don't want to be Jewish,'" Tinnelly said.

The following may sound strange but it could happen:
Jill Carroll writes book extolling virtues of Islam. Liberal ladies all over America start wearing scarves. "Submission is so sublime," becomes the mantra heard on college campuses throughout the nation.
Everyone predicted America would change after 9/11, but this new development was
hardly what they could have expected.
Christians say "love your enemy."
Liberals, taking this just one step further, say "submit to your enemy."

Each state sends a quarterly invoice to Washington, D.C. indicating how much the local governments have spent on medical care, education, police costs etcassociated with dealing with illegal immigrants. The State Department then presents the Mexican ambassador with a quarterly bill payable in oil at the current market rate. If Mexico refuses to pay the bill we build 1 mile of fence per day until they cough it up.

Suicide Bombing Attack Near Kedumim
[Link: arutzsheva.com...]
(IsraelNN.com) According to preliminary and yet unconfirmed information, it appears three Israelis have been killed in a suicide bombing attack near the gas station of the community of Kedumim in Samaria.
A bomber appears to have blown himself up next to a vehicle. Officials on the scene report scattered body parts indicate a number of Israelis inside the vehicle may have been killed inside the vehicle. It is believed three people perished in the attack.
Fatah’s al-Aqsa Brigade released a statement claiming responsibility for the attack.

RUMORS OF CASTRO’S DEATH CIRCULATE IN LATIN AMERICAN PRESS
I just came through reports, in Spanish, about the likely death of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. The news, strangely, has been given by several news sites, among which the far-leftist Indymedia in Argentina, which quoted some Latin American media as having reported the news. The Cuban regime has immediately dismissed the claims.I assume that the regime won’t let know about the dictator’s death as soon as he dies.
While we shouldn’t yet celebrate, let me say that I prepared a bottle of champaigne, as Castro’s days of life are very, very numbered.

It's the same attack but it has been updated at least in the Hebrew version of ynet and Israeli tv. Four charred and unidentifiable bodies were in the car which is a Tel Aviv car whose owner has not yet been identified, but has not been reported as a stolen car.
It is unclear if all four are Palestinian in a work accident or that an Israeli car with Israeli passengers was exploded in some way with or without a suicide bomber.

Update on Reported Terrorist Attack in Samaria
[Link: israelnn.com...]
(IsraelNN.com) Fatah’s al-Aqsa Brigade is reporting a 24-year-old Palestinian Authority (PA) resident of Hevron perpetrated the attack near the gas station of the community of Kedumim, in Samaria, at about 10:00pm local time.
Shortly following the explosion, authorities believed the blast was a terrorist bomb that detonated prematurely, killing the bomber inside. The vehicle was engulfed in flames.
It now appears that a suicide bomber dressed as a Jew, wearing a kippa (yarmulke), was given a ride by the unsuspecting occupants of the Israeli vehicle. He then blew himself up inside killing the passengers. The number of dead remains unclear but it appears to be two at this time.
Security authorities repeat it is still too soon to state with certainty if the Fatah statement is accurate.

Ms. Fallot, who converted to Islam three years ago after asking herself spiritual questions to which she found no answers in her childhood Catholicism, says she finds the suspicion her new religion attracts “wounding.” “For me,” she adds, “Islam is a message of love, of tolerance and peace.” ... she liked the way “Islam demands a closeness to God. Islam is simpler, more rigorous, and it’s easier because it is explicit. I was looking for a framework; man needs rules and behavior to follow. Well, according to this story, all of them.
American convert could face death
The American government faced heavy international pressure Saturday to reconsider the charges against an American man for converting from Christianity to Islam. Accused of Apostasy, Michael Jackson appeared in the courtroom in full Islamic regalia holding a Holy Quran.
Most Americans agree that Jackson should receive the death penalty nonetheless, as his conversion is a clear and unforgivable embarrassment to the Christian faith. Christian protesters clashed with riot police today and set fire to several embassies of nations that had no association whatsoever to the case.

Just imagine how different the world would look if Stalin had won the Spanish Civil War.
Stalin's Partido Communista de Espanya thugs were back in Spain in 1977, shortly after Franco's death, knocking on doors and threatening your casa would be their casa when they won the next elections. Scary stuff for a visiting American.
Now the neostalinist Zapatero--who wouldn't stand up for the US troops marching with Spanish troops in October 2003--is making nice with islamofascisti and paying for mosque maintenance & construction while bashing traditional Catholicism as Stalinists do.
Castro, Chavez and contemporary totalitarians are NOT better than Franco but infinitely worse.

Just as a public service, AI's 'blog' dedicated to the proposition that an LGF stalker claimed to be a genuine badge carrying member of United States Secret Service. Said person had claimed (well, claim is wrong word, since people actually saw him on TV in USAF dress uniform as part of a USSS detail for Ronald Reagan's funeral, and others attended his retirement party) to be an EOD Tech in the Air Force, and to have been detailed to working with the USSS. AI demanded proof, in the form of an archived post, where said person said "I have never been a USSS agent", or else she insisted she would forever believe he was a liar.
Good fun for all involved.

The problem isn't racial, it's illegal immigration. When Ireland's economy was a basket case back in the 80's, you could clear an Irish bar on Friday afternoon by murmuring "INS". I don't hang out among the Irish anymore, so maybe it's not like that anymore, but I never thought people should just be able to come here illegally.

Now that'd be a really NEAT idea, except of course that you'd be living in Panama.
Actually, Panama isn't a bad place to live. I have been talking to more people about it lately. In fact, when I was growing up I had friends (military family that lived up the street) that had lived in Panama for years and wanted to go back.
Low cost of living, low crime, well educated, modern cities, just about all the companies you are used to dealing with ... shop at Sears or Costco, for example.
The average monthly cost of living, domestic and professional services, food and many other products and services are considerable lower than in many countries including United States. A live-in maid can be hired for less than $300.00 a month. Medical assistance can be received as low as $20. Apartments in Panama City can be found starting at $450 a month. Very nice apartments with amazing view, can be found for less than $1,000 a month.
I read something posted a couple of weeks ago from someone looking for a place to retire, they said they had planned on Costa Rica until they checked out Panama, they said it's a no brainer now. I am serious, Americans are retiring in Panama in droves. If you are on a fixed income, things like no taxes and a very low cost of living mean a lot.

I think that is a horrible way to teach about the holocaust/racism/prejudice. I saw the film about how a kindergarten teacher in the 70s did that crap with eye color. (Oprah had her on several years ago and she tried that shit with the audience.) With little kids? That is traumatic. Most little kids are innocent and have good hearts. You only need to teach the little ones how to be kind and polite and that being 'mean' won't be tolerated as they wouldn't like it themselves. Then when they get older, show the horrors of the holocaust. Don't make them a participant in a 'faux' one. I saw the films in high school of the butchery and had to cover my eyes. I won't go into holocaust museum because you can taste the despair. Complete bullshit to do that to little kids. I would be up at that school too bitching a storm. HARUMPH!

Thanks for the link; I should have thought to check DOJ's figures myself. (Just lazy, i guess.)
Here's some interesting info from that document (page 8):
"Between 1995 and 2000 the number of inmates who were not U.S. citizens rose by approximately two-thirds in both Federal and State facilities. In 2000 non-U.S. citizens accounted for 25% of the Federal, 5% of the State, and 12% of the private correctional population." [Note: "private" here refers to privately operated prisons housing either federal or state convicts.]
Also according to the DOJ, for comparison, the overall population increase in this time period was 28% (broken down as 37% in federal prisons, 19% in state prisons, and 459% in privately run prisons).
28% overall increase; 67% increase in non-citizens. I don't like what that trend implies. (And these numbers are all before 9-11, so don't anybody say "Gitmo".)
DOJ doesn't specify and probably did not ask how many of these non-citizens are here illegally.
I couldn't find more recent numbers on the non-citizen population; the yearly numbers count by race but not citizenship. If anybody has a genuine source on this, I'd be curious to know whether the trend of a quick rise in non-citizen inmates has continued.

I too lived in Panama when I was in the Army - for almost a year. Before Jimmah turned over the canal to them. I'm not disputing your friends' experiences as being invalid, but clearly much, much different than mine.
Well, I was talking to kids my own age (probably grade school) in the winter. Maybe their parents had other ideas.
But nevertheless, I am hearing some pretty nice things recently from people who have been there or who have been living there.
A lot can change in almost 40 years (damn, it's been almost 40 years since 69?) I mean, the crime rate in the US has dropped 50% in only the last 10 years. One thing that is different is the economy in Panama has improved quite a bit since then.
In 1969 the town where I live was a lot different than it is now too.

You know, I just reread that "card" of yours, and it kinda sounds like it's describing Jack Bauer.
So I really hope you're not having a bad day...

#623 crosspatch - Indeed a lot can change in 37 years (but who's counting?!) but they still get 180 inches of rain during the 9 month rainy season on the Atlantic side. And it's still Hot Hot Hot 12 months of the year ( and no, not that Arizona kinda dry heat, either). I could take it at in my early 20's, now - no way). But whatever floats your boat, go for it!

Now, I am NOT defending the Holocaust experience experiment those teachers inflicted on their students... But just to clarify things, they weren't little kids. They were 8th graders.
The reporter probably deliberately chose to quote a kid who used the word "Daddy," knowing most people would retain an impression of helpless little kids, much younger than the actual kids. Or maybe some grownup has misquoted the poor kid.
I mean, honestly, I have never yet known a 13-year-old who would be caught dead calling his or her parents Mommy and Daddy.

I know the trends are going up. I did look for something more current but could not find it. I want an offical source like the DOJ. I did not do a state by state search. But I am sure they have stats too. I am sure that it will be higher in Texas then lets say Iowa.

"Yes but will Spaniards now embrace any politician and party which is pro-US, pro-Bush, pro-fighting islamofascists is my whiny question!"
Alas no. I still haven't figured out the depth of the anti-US sentiments, BDS aside, but there is enough internal divisions in Spain that I couldn't phanthom who would be the next PM.

This does interest me Rate of increase broken down as 37% in federal prisons. You don't get sent to a fedral prison for knocking off a mini-mart, stealing cars... I wonder what the crimes were.

got milk,
Yeah, I was wondering about the types of offenses, too. Of course, some of the federal convictions could be on immigration violations, but I somehow doubt that really accounts for the whole increase, or even the majority.
I have to go now, but if you feel like it, you might be able to find numbers by type of conviction in the yearly figures (except those don't include any breakdown by citizenship, which is what we really want). I admit I didn't skim far enough in that large document you suggested to be sure they didn't include that kind of info (a lack of time is such a handicap to thorough research, dang it).

What we should do is hire all illegal aliens to build the concrete wall across our borders...and while we are at it, mafia style, we should bury our entire Congress in the concrete. Then instead of "Where is Jimmy Hoffa", we can all ask where is Uncle Teddy.

Now the muslims are offended by Mother Theresa:
SHKODER, Albania (Reuters) - Muslims in Albania's northern city of Shkoder are opposing plans to erect a statue to Mother Teresa, the ethnic Albanian Catholic nun in line for elevation to sainthood by the Vatican.Muslim groups in Shkoder rejected the local council plan for a Teresa statue, saying it "would offend the feelings of Muslims."
"We do not want this statue to be erected in a public place because we see her as a religious figure," said Bashkim Bajraktari, Shkoder's mufti or Muslim religious leader.
Shkoder's Muslims recently protested against crosses being erected on prominent hilltops.
So who would the local muslims rather honor:
But men in one Shkoder bar said they would prefer a monument to an Albanian fighter who blew himself up in order to avoid being captured by enemy Serbs, or even to two Ottoman-era pashas remembered fondly in Shkoder.

#591 taterhead,
Most little kids are innocent and have good hearts. You only need to teach the little ones how to be kind and polite and that being 'mean' won't be tolerated as they wouldn't like it themselves. Then when they get older, show the horrors of the holocaust. Don't make them a participant in a 'faux' one.
As lurking faith pointed out in post 631, the kids were in the 8th grade. That puts them in the 13-14 year-old age range. I think that's an appropriate age for that kind of simulation exercise. It may have been better if the school took the precaution of notifying the parents first so that some could opt out. But I would have no problem letting my 13 or 14 year-old participate (though my kid would say "this is not a Jewish star").
Had the children been a couple of years younger, elementary school age (10, 11, maybe 12), I would agree with your point. However, even my 5 year-old knows that there are people who hate Jews and "want to make them go to HaShamayim" (kill them). I don't believe in keeping kids sheltered from the truth as long as there is some balance and consideration of their age and what they are able to comprehend.
I saw the films in high school of the butchery and had to cover my eyes.
I saw them too and I think it's important that all highschool age children see them. When I feel the time is right, I will make sure that my children see them as well. They should know what Nazis did to nearly every member of their great grandmother's family (my grandmother OBM).
I didn't cover my eyes while watching those films, and when I hear about Holocaust denial today, those images of piles of dead bodies are as clear in my mind as the day I saw them.

And in the middle of all that, Israel has this, 7 months later, while Olmert*spit* gleefully drools as he plans expelling more Jews out of Israel, even after today's homicide bombing, as mentioned on another thread.
Amidst unemployment, poverty and uncertainty, the displaced residents of Gush Katif are somehow trying to rebuild their lives.
Dana Zelinger's children used to think their fantasy vacation was staying in a hotel. Not anymore. Now they dream of a living room, a kitchen, private family meal time, a patch of floor to bounce a ball. The Zelingers are one of hundreds of families still stranded in hotels, youth hostels, vacation villages and tent cities seven months after the evacuation of their Gush Katif communities last summer. What was to be a 10-day stay has turned into an odyssey of uncertainty whose provisional end will only be seen in another few months when the Zelingers and other evacuees from the community of Neve Dekalim will be settled in temporary quarters at Kibbutz Ein Tzurim. Five years down the line, the remnants of their community will be reunited in permanent housing near Kibbutz Amatzia in the sparsely populated Lachish region.
Yet Dana Zelinger is hopeful, and grateful. At least her family has a proper roof over their heads; evacuees from Atzmona are living in the tent city they pitched on the outskirts of Netivot called Ir HaEmunah (City of Faith). Many of those expelled from Elei Sinai are living in Ohalei Sinai, a tent park set up on a lot outside Kibbutz Yad Mordechai close to the northern Gaza border.
Dana, 42 and mother of seven, can be spotted daily in the lobby of the Jerusalem Gold Hotel adjacent to the Jerusalem Central Bus Station, clipboard in hand and phone to her ear. She is the activities coordinator for the 31 families still stranded in what she calls this "luxury cage," making sure that the nearly 100 children in the hotel have their entire afternoon schedule accounted for.
"The hotel has been quite considerate, and the owner has been wonderful to us," says Dana. "But a hotel is a hotel, and it's not made for kids to run around in. There are other guests here as well. So we have to make sure our children are occupied constantly, with lessons, workshops, and outings. Every minute has to be organized. In a normal home, your child comes home after school, flops down on the couch, takes a snack from the kitchen, and 'just is'. Here, there is no 'just'. He can't hang out in the lobby, and he can't shoot hoops in the bus station."
Dana, whose youngest is five years old, says that the most immediate difficulty is the supervision. "We all sleep in separate hotel rooms, connected by a public hallway. I have no idea what time my older kids go to sleep, if they are even in their room, or perhaps wandering around downtown Jerusalem at midnight. In your home, you don't always see everyone, but you know where everyone is and which friends come and go."
RAMPANT UNEMPLOYMENT
Dwelling on the destruction of her home is so mind-boggling, says Dana, that she prefers to use her energy to organize the present and hold her family together. Her husband, an electrician, is employed in the south, close to their former town, and now sleeps there half the week. It's not easy caring for her children on her own in such a non-homey setting, but she's grateful that at least he is employed. Of the 2,200 people who lost their jobs on account of the evacuation, less than 300 have found work.
