Wed, May 10, 2006 at 1:53:05 pm PDT

In the latest episode we see a graduation ceremony in Jenin (known as “The City of the Bombers”), in which proud new police officers demonstrate their skills at...

Matrix-like Kung Fu anti-gravity leaps!

Surprising combinations of previously-unseen-by-man boxing moves!

And of course, the ever-popular... Nazi salute!

Surprising combinations of previously-unseen-by-man boxing moves!

Eh. In my fairly limited sparring experience, I've seen lockups like that happen.

(but we didn't do Nazi salutes)

Well...the bad guys aren't getting all the prizes. Here's a story via Big Lizards, about a General in the Iraqi Interior Ministry being arrested, said to be involved in the notorious 'death squads'.

[Link: www.alertnet.org...]

"...Bayan Jabor, who is fighting to keep his job in a new government in the face of criticism that he has tolerated Shi'ite militias inside his ministry, made the announcement in an interview on Al Jazeera television.

""We have arrested an officer, a major general ... along with 17 people who kidnapped citizens and in some cases killed them. He is now in jail and under investigation," he said.

""We also found a terror group in the 16th brigade that carries out killings of citizens," he added..."

19 hous bin pharteen  Wed, May 10, 2006 12:05:43pm

Hmm. They hate Jews. They kill Jews. They love the Nazi salute. They have no respect for human life. They want land that does not belong to them.

And the difference between them and Nazi Germany is? Is? Is?

Wait! I know.
The left and the commies love the palis but they didn't love the Nazi's? No wait. The commies and the Nazi's were buddies until Hitler invaded Russia.

I give up.

What is the difference?
(When I was just Baby Bin Pharteen I never understood how the world could allow a Hitler to come to power and do what he did. I know longer wonder)

Here is another version of Thunder and Blazes - more of the whole (slightly out of tune circus) band sound - full piece, also, including the boring middle part. I can almost smell the elephants.

The commies and the Nazi's were buddies until Hitler invaded Russia.

I wished I had a hot key for that sentence back when I used to try to pound round logic into square leftist brains. German tanks were developed in the Soviet Union in violation of the Versailles Treaty. Stalin traded extensively with Hitler. They split Poland. Though both knew a war was inevitable, Stalin was shocked Hitler attacked in 1941, couldn't believe it for weeks.

After Hitler found out how many tanks the Soviets had before the invasion, especially the new and secret T-34, he said he should have been preparing for invasion instead of invading. Hitler had lucid moments, but luckily not enough to win.

The BBC news man has just been in Gaza, visiting friends in ski masks, who were running what looked like a cooking class. A masked man added milk and beaten eggs to the flour, and added some chocolate before stirring it all together. He then took a home-made missile, and... it turned out not to be a chocolate cake mixture after all.

The BBC man also showed us what it is like to be a Gaza family living near the area being shelled by the Zionist occupationists, but didn't bother doing the same for an Israeli family living within range of the missiles.

They leave out the obvious word - Nazi.

Nobody else salutes like that.

Stalin was surprised Hitler attacked so soon, but Stalin was gearing up to attack Hitler himself. The Boss welcomed the war, he needed another wave of Terror to keep the people in line, he hadn't had a nice wave for five years.

Stalin really did want a worldwide Soviet, but of course those of us that bring that up are just "red-baiting".

The Nazi, the Islamists, the commie, and the progressive are pretty much the same man, just in different clothes. They all want to run your life and tell you what to do under penalty of death. After all, they are smarter and more deserving.

Those that believe in freedom and being left alone and believe in leaving others to live their lives how they see fit seam to be in the minority in this world. Always have.

Not based on anything I've read on the subject, he didn't. He was in terrified denial even as his field officers were reporting massed tank engine noises coming from across the border.

After Hitler and Stalin signed the Soviet-German Frontier and Friendship Treaty (September 39), Communists all over the world reversed their anti-Nazi position. Example: Maurice Thorez, head of the French CP, broadcast from Moscow and begged French troops not to resist.

I JUST finished a biography of him written by a Russian who worked in the archives and had access to more special records than any previous biography. Just before the war, Stalin was having serious trouble with nationalism and the war allowed him to create his Great Patriotic War so everyone fought for the Soviet. It was a godsend.

Stalin was so despairing he didn't even make a broadcast about the invasion until eleven days later.

Stalin had been warned in advance by Churchill and his own staff, but he refused to listen.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I had a friend back in high school who could say that phrase in perfect Stallone mode. He'd throw it out in appropriate situations and always get a laugh. When "Stop, Or My Mom Will Shoot!" came out, he yelled it in the movie theater when we see Stallone running like mad towards the end. The whole theater cracked up.

#36 BP:

I JUST finished a biography

What's the title/author? I'd be interested in reading it.

It was a godsend.

I don't think anyone denies a) that Stalin (and everyone else in the world) foresaw eventual war with Hitler (which is why he ordered heavy industries moved behind the Urals in the '30s), and b) that he took advantage of the war adeptly to associate The Party (meaning him) with the sacred Motherland Russia. But from what I've read (e.g. this and this), he was more than just "surprised" when the attack came, he was in a state of practically psychotic denial. He thought the '39 pact had bought him much more time.

44 hous bin pharteen  Wed, May 10, 2006 12:46:29pm

My favorite Stalin idea?

Any of his troops that had been captured by the Germans (and some that hadn't) were arrested and put in prison camps in the Soviet Union upon their release from the Germans.

Communism at its best.

I can see pretty clearly that the progressives in this country would love to do the same thing here.

Oh, agreed. But the resurgent German Army he took advantage of had been re-armed, and done a lot of its training, on Soviet soil, starting after the treaty of Rapallo. The agreement was in force until Hitler became Chancellor.

The ins and outs of that relationship are fascinating.

48 Occasional Reader  Wed, May 10, 2006 12:59:50pm

And after, correct? I don't think Hitler abrogated it, at least until that, er, bit of unpleasantness that began on June 22, 1941.

50 Dianna  Wed, May 10, 2006 1:10:45pm

#48 OR

Actually, he abrogated it practically the instant he became Chancellor.

The Molotov-Ribbentrop agreement didn't reinstate it, either. The Soviets agreed to supply raw materials, the Germans finished goods, including radios, gun barrels for tanks, and armor.

Needless to say, the Germans never delivered. There are some remarkable sections of Tucker's The Revolution from Above detailing this material.

The Hitler-Stalin Thing

American "progressives" (AKA: members of the CPUSA) were very strong isolationists until Hitler attacked Stalin. Then, in typical progressive hypocrisy, switched sides with vigor and no apologies or explanations.

I must go and rescue a real estate agent from the world's sweetest dogs.

I think the Goon won't let her leave until he's shed at least six ounces of fur. Chelsea won't let her leave until her ears have been thoroughly scratched.

By the time I get there, the agent won't want to leave.

56 godfrey  Wed, May 10, 2006 1:43:07pm

Iowahawk lands a light jab:

Mr President, You might know that I am a teacher, and former leader of Tehran NEA. My students ask me how can theses actions be reconciled with the values of Jesus Christ (PBUH), the Messenger of peace and forgiveness. They also ask me if this will be on the exam, and if they can self-flagellate for extra credit.

Lileks counters:

And your Congressors cut funding for the nuclear bombs which permit the busting of the bunker. Na na na! I do a taunting dance and cock my hips mockingly! In sudden seriousness, please to be thank them for this, although we lost a day’s work in the labs due to the celebration. I even permitted the drinking of whiskey, and decreed that the suppliers of alcohol be only lightly killed.
57 godfrey  Wed, May 10, 2006 1:47:30pm

OR

Lileks ends better:

Did you not see how well I was received? Did you not see the light of God that surrounded me when I spoke, how no one blinked as I related our message, how doves came out of my mouth and the pants of all were filled with flowers. Did you not note how the exact number of letters I spoke divided by the sum (in Euros) we paid the Chinese engineers was the winning lottery number the following week? Including the Powerball? And you seek to confound my work to bring back the Messiah and bring the world once more into the arms of Islam?

Gotta hand it to Lileks, the numerology is a nice touch.
