-Retweetanti-idiotarian bloggers

Glenn Reynolds (who seems to be having an off day today, with only 14 posts so far) answers the question “Where are all the non-libertarian bloggers?”

What bloggers are more than anything, I think, is anti-idiot. That makes life tough for Noam Chomsky, Cornel West, and the Revs. Falwell, Robertson, Jackson, & Sharpton, for reasons that transcend traditional partisanship and ideology.

That’s it exactly! I really don’t care to affiliate myself with any of the current political parties.

But if there were an Anti-Idiotarian Party™, I’d be a member for life.

(Update: In fact, I like the sound of that so much I’ve renamed our “warblogs” section.)

Charles--while I identify with the Democrats, due to my unabashedly liberal tendencies, I would sign up for your party.

Why? It has a lot to do with the knee-jerk "blame America first" rantings of such luminaries as Noam Chomsky and Barbara Ehrenreich. Thinking critically has been confused with uncritical criticism of our policies, and that's a scary thing, especially in academia.

Problem is, a party like that wouldn't be pro-anything.

It would be pro-intelligence. It would be truly pro-choice, because the essence of the nanny-facist mentality is that "people are idiots". Here's a suggested Anti-Idiocratic Oath: "First, do no stupidity".

I think an anti-idiot party would be a good idea, and I also think it could be FOR all sorts of good things. The reason is simple -- "be good" and "don't be stupid" are basically the same message. (If anybody cares, I wrote about this in Salon once, here )

So much of our politics is about advocates, advocating, while most government is necessarily compromise. An anti-idiot party would advocate not being stupid about that. The trouble with self-government, after all, is the same as with self-employment: when things go wrong, who do you downsize?

I am becoming convinced that the web has been subsumed by the set of all possible blogs.
For example, I am reading a rant against some 'conservative' dude by another 'liberal' dude. Incidentally, I find myself aligning with what you northamericans would call the liberal dude. He uses the word idiotarian. I am surprised that i have never seen it before. It sounds made up. I check the web for confirmation, only to arrive here.

:)
