Briton Arrested in Canadian Terror Investigation

Wed, Jun 7, 2006 at 7:58:59 pm PDT

A British Muslim with possible connections to both the London 7/7 bombings and the alleged plots in Toronto has been arrested at Manchester airport.

A BRITON said to be a key figure in an alleged plot to bomb public buildings in Canada, including the Parliament, was arrested by counter-terrorist police as he stepped off a plane at Manchester airport.

The 21-year-old man had arrived from Canada, where security services claimed that he had been living alongside some of the 17 terror suspects arrested in Toronto at the weekend in one of the biggest operations in North America. Hours later police in West Yorkshire arrested a 16-year-old youth after documents and mobile phone records seized in Canada revealed a British link to the alleged gang of Muslim militants operating from their homes in the Toronto suburbs.

Canadian prosecutors have claimed that the plot involved taking over the Parliament building, holding MPs hostage and beheading Stephen Harper, the Prime Minister. They wanted to force Canada to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan.

A security source told The Times yesterday: “We believe that people living in the UK played a pivotal role in helping to organise this series of planned attacks.”

The 21-year-old man was seized as he tried to leave the airport on Tuesday night. Scotland Yard officers were also present, but police say that no guns were used.

The suspect was born in Pakistan but is believed to have British citizenship and lived at a number of addresses in Dewsbury, the home town of Mohammad Sidique Khan, the leader of the July 7 suicide bombers. He is understood to have spent much of this year living in Toronto.

Nothing to worry about up in Manchester. Asian Youths riot from time to time, but that mainly has to do with a need for jobs and that they aren't treated very well by local football hooligans.

Did anyone catch the CBC( The National) expose on Islam last night? Had some Canadian apologist journalist traveling Europe showing how poorly Muslims are treated in Europe. He equated the British Nationalist Party to Nazis, showed the Dutch as intolerant, etc. I think he was trying to point out that Canada would become as ignorant as Europe if it succumbed to the xenophobic right wing fear mongering, but as slanted as the presentation was, it still was really grasping to try and find something positive about islam. Funny and tragic.

From the Article,

to the alleged gang of Muslim militants

Militants?

militant

mil·i·tant [ míllit'nt ]

adjective

Definition:

1. aggressive: extremely active in the defense or support of a cause, often to the point of extremism

2. involved in fighting: engaged in fighting or warfare

They plotted to murder civilians and politicians.

They are Terrorists.

Muslim Terrorists to be exact.

32 Tasty_Beverage  Wed, Jun 7, 2006 6:24:28pm

Check this shit out:

U.S. Knew Arafat Was Behind Murder of Diplomats

The American government knew from the outset that Yasser Arafat was behind the 1973 terrorist attack that killed two diplomats in Sudan, according to secret documents released by the State Department and reported by CBS news.

The State Department apparently was not anxious to publicly link Arafat or his Fatah movement to the Khartoum attack.

...

While the American government kept quiet about Arafat's involvement, the former terrorist leader addressed the United Nations General Assembly and became accepted by the international community.

Disgusting. Our government doesn't even look out for its own.

33 Poimanester  Wed, Jun 7, 2006 6:25:10pm

Sooner or later "attempted" terrorism is going to have earn a quick death penalty. Any sympathetic Mosques are going to have to be bulldozed, etc. These sub-humans are not going to quit. Playing by the rules is no longer optional. The world has turned an historical corner. I wonder how long it will take for civilized society to realize survival demands the eradication of this global death-cult?

Disgusting. Our government doesn't even look out for its own.

Haven't for ages. Even domestically, they keep trying to pass new laws, rather than enforce teh existing ones.
They let murderers and rapists walk out of jail early, so that people caught w/ pot will stay in jail (ok, NOT that there aren't issues w/ people caught w/ pot - but really, I think the others are a greater risk to society)
Consider the Eminent Domain issue of last year - the first (and some would say ONLY) job of government is protection of personal property, and they are failing at that miserably.

Back to your point, tho, Nixon must have been REALLY frosted (or, he didn't like the guys in the first place). I just don't see him sitting still for THAT one...

#86,

Not a lot, but: Dewsbury is a medium sized town with good facilities but neatly joined up with the countryside and full of English heritage. There are many Muslim communities all over Yorkshire, which is beautiful northern country with moors in the north and hills in the south, and there have been many tensions and even riots (which have also involved the far-right) in larger areas nearby such as Bradford and Oldham. It is not far from Leeds which is more cosmopolitan and also not far from Manchester, which is not in Yorkshire. While Yorkshire is a joy, full of old and beautiful architecture, the remnants of industrial revolution and small archetypal English villages, there is a darker side: throughout Yorkshire including Leeds there are pockets of support for the far right, and unassimilated immigrant areas that feel very much like an Arab market has been relocated to old English villages. Traditionally Yorkshire breeds real men who work hard, know their ales and can be very hearty and friendly.

Good intelligence work in this case, and good tracking to make the arrests. Cheers to Britain and Canada for fighting the war on jihadist terror.

Now I hope that there can be interrogation of the kind befitting a terror network that is dangerous to society, so that any other elements of the terror group can be identified and arrested.

And finally, the guilty need to be brought to justice. I am hoping that France's methods of fighting its terrorists can inspire other countries to get more serious about the war against jihadist terror.

The jihad terrorists are committing and/or plotting terrorist outrages all over the world, including Russia, Israel, the Phillippines, Indian Kashmir, etc, and the sooner there is solidarity in resisting this jihad, the better.
