Unbelievable.

The building that we saw in two different photos on July 24 and August 5 ... was actually photographed first on July 18:

Beirut, LEBANON: A press photographer takes pictures of the devastated southern Beirut suburbs of Dahyieh Junibiya, 18 July 2006. Israeli jets pounded Lebanon with a blistering wave of deadly raids under cover of darkness on today, the seventh day of an assault that has sent tens of thousands of people fleeing for their lives. AFP PHOTO/RAMZI HAIDAR (Photo credit should read RAMZI HAIDAR/AFP/Getty Images)

Here’s another July 18 photo. (Hat tip: hcq.)

The two later photos with their captions:

Not just Reuters. This is AP and AFP too. In fact, I have come to think (after 4 straight days of scourig archives) that perhaps some of these guys file with one service under one name and the next under another. There simply aren't many other ways to explain multiple shots of the same incident from exactly the same angle/perspective under two different names. See the Kiddos in the Fire Zone thread a couple back. I have an identical shot, different fauxtographer.

There's also another shot of this woman in which as I recall she is searching around the ruins, making this "casual passerby" shot suspect. I think I saw it at Eureferendum but I could be wrong about that. Nevertheless, I am positive there is this other pic.

Further demolishing the credibility of this photograph is yet a different image of the same woman by AFP, this time "inspecting the destruction," in a scene in which she is obviously cooperating with the photographer -- contradicting the implication of the Reuters photo in which she is supposed to be just a passerby.

You too? On the same night, at the same time?

In my case, in the midst of fixing the multiple (featuring multiple fix, reboot, fix, reboot etcetcetc), XP Pro issues, McAfee suddenly turned it's auto-update function back on, (I keep all auto update functions turned off because I'm an on-line gamer), and began updating itself, for the third time this week.

So later, much later, I think I've got everything resolved, I read/post some LGF and go off to play some Day of Defeat. I'm involved in a heavy firefight, my teammates are counting on me to hold the flank by myself,(I can do that), and suddenly XP begins auto-updating - again, pitching me out of the game, but only after freezing me in place long enough for me to get overrun and killed. Teamspeak stayed functioning just long enough for me to hear the anguished wails of my teammates as their formerly solid left flank utterly disappeared into thin digital air...

"These 11 updates require a reboot."

*Blink*

...and my machine reboots itself. But not before Spysweeper begins updating itself as well, again without prior permission.

You guessed it, Spysweeper update failed. "Remove and reload Spysweeper system please."

Maybe I should just break this box down into it's base components and ship them off seperately to the three software companies who think they now own it.

My PC now looks like a Lebanese building automatically updated by the IDF air force, repeatedly.

You just aren't nuanced enough to understand Quantuum HisbullShi'ite, specifically Schrödinger's Lebanese.

An uninjured person in Lebanon is a probability function. It cannot be ascertained with certainty whether that person is a HizbShaitan terroristfreedom fighter or not. Even if you see him firing a Katyusha or beheading a 'collaborator'.

Whenever one of these people is wounded, killed, or captured by the IDF, the wave function collapses, and we know for sure whether the Lebanese person is a combatant or civilian.

By which I mean that we find out that the person is a civilian. Even if he is killed with a Kalashnikov in one hand and a Hizzy flag in the other. Because you know how those A-rabs love to just fire their AKs in the air peacefully.

66 Liz Ard  Wed, Aug 9, 2006 5:28:17pm

saw this last night and was wondering if I could get a copy of the video (which I have not got yet) .. but I did get a transcript here:

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: Well, you know, you have to be very careful. Obviously, both sides in this conflict want their stories out. Israel, you know, provides public spokespeople very readily. If you're dealing with the Israeli military, they don't want you, you know, wandering around their artillery fields like where we are now, or wandering around their positions. So they often have press people who will actually sort of help you if you need interviews and the like.

While on the Hezbollah side, it's really interesting — I was in Beirut, and they took me on this sort of guided tour of the Hezbollah- controlled territories in southern Lebanon that were heavily bombed. They are much cruder, obviously. They don't have the experience in this kind of thing. But they clearly want the story of civilian casualties out. That is their — what they're heavily pushing, to the point where on this tour I was on, they were just making stuff up. They had six ambulances lined up in a row and said, OK, you know, they brought reporters there, they said you can talk to the ambulance drives. And then one by one, they told the ambulances to turn on their sirens and to zoom off, and people taking that picture would be reporting, I guess, the idea that these ambulances were zooming off to treat civilian casualties, when in fact, these ambulances were literally going back and forth down the street just for people to take pictures of them.

No thanks needed. If we don't have truth we don't have anything. Nothing I hate worse than a lie - as my children will all confirm.

I put together a slide show this morning of pics that I found showing the infamous Qana pics - specifically the ones we've been questioning- being used all over the world on protest signs. Lo and behold, right there in the mess is Green Helmet's Headless Baby 1996!

You know if we've found this many lies in such a short time that this is massive and has been going on for years. How much different would the world be for all of us, everywhere, if our "free" press had been telling the truth all these years?

I bet for starters most of the mess in the MidEast would never have happened.

72 Thanos  Wed, Aug 9, 2006 5:35:09pm

OT but heads up needed this is from CT blog:

Participants on key Arabic-language Al-Qaida chat forums on the Internet have announced their intent to launch collective cyberterrorist attacks tomorrow, August 10, aimed at interrupting or denying service to other pro-Israeli websites--namely the "Internet Haganah" cyberterror watchdog site run by Aaron Weisburd. When I asked him what he thought of the purported threat, Aaron expressed strong skepticism that these efforts would produce any noticeable disruption in access to his site. He replied, "They have a reasonable chance of slowing down the responsiveness of one domain of the ten associated with the Internet Haganah web site."

More importantly, these would-be attacks represent part of a growing wave of similar defacement and denial of service attacks targeting various American bloggers and pro-Western websites.

This coincides with Black Tuesday: eg microsoft released 11 security bulletins today, time from release of vulnerabilities until exploits are in the wild is now less than a day in most cases. I would advise patching your gates gear tonight if you haven't.

Eddie Adams, The AP photographer who snapped the Pulitzer Prize-winning photo of South Vietnamese General Nguyen Ngoc Loan shooting his prisoner at least later expressed guilt over how distorted it was, and that it ruined Ngoc's life:

After the photo was seen around the world, the AP assigned Adams to hang out with General Loan. He discovered that Loan was a beloved hero in Vietnam, to his troops and the citizens. "He was fighting our war, not their war, our war, and every — all the blame is on this guy," Adams told NPR (in what may have been the most surprisingly courageous NPR interview I've ever heard). Adams learned that Loan fought for the construction of hospitals in South Vietnam and unlike the popular myths, demonstrated the fact that at least some South Vietnamese soldiers really did want to fight for their country and way of life.

Just moments before that photo had been taken, several of his men had been gunned down. One of his soldiers had been at home, along with the man's wife and children. The Vietcong had attacked during the holiday of Tet, which had been agreed upon as a time for a truce. As it turned out, many of the victims of the NC and North Vietnamese were defenseless. Some three thousand of them were discovered in a mass grave outside of Hue after the Americans reoccupied the area. The surprise invasion, turned out to be a military disaster for the Vietcong, but a huge strategic victory because of its effect on American resolve.

But at the time, all of this was irrelevant to people like Loan. It was an ugly, shocking assault. The execution of the prisoner was a reprisal. It was an ugly thing to be sure, but wars, civil wars especially, are profoundly ugly things.

Adams wrote in Time magazine, "The general killed the Viet Cong; I killed the general with my camera. Still photographs are the most powerful weapon in the world. People believe them, but photographs do lie, even without manipulation. They are only half-truths. What the photograph didn't say was, 'What would you do if you were the general at that time and place on that hot day, and you caught the so-called bad guy after he blew away one, two or three American soldiers?'"

Oil spill

So far in a brife search, I have seen reported; 15,000 BBL (depending on gravity about 2,200 tons) spilled, 15,000 tons spilled, 110,000 BBL spilled(~16,400 tons) and 30,000 tons spilled.

All from a power plant.

I ain't disputing oil spilled. But what the f%%k. A power plant has the same storage capacity of an OIL TANKER. Maybe but I sense BS from journalists with a meme.

In a way, I don't blame the islamonazi terrorists for lying and deceiving. Lies and deception are the home ground of truly evil bigots, be they nazi, communist or islamist.

What I find truly unforgivable is the lack of diligence by the western much vaunted free media. They are free to give us the truth, not a nazi version of it.

There is a lot of destruction left in Beriut form the civil war. Some enterprising blogger (I work and have two toddlers) should see if any buildings destroyed by the IAF where even standing last year.
