I think your analogy of the spring is excellent. I too have thought that for all the bravado from our enemy, there will come a day of reckoning when there will no longer be mercy shown. I believe Americans had reached that point in 1945.

I don't know how long the anger and resentment I am beginning to sense from the civilized world will be bottled, but I know that when the top is finally removed there is going to be a mess.

Getting used to seeing it isn't a bad thing. You become less emotional about it. If they do it for effect, the effect is lost. I mean, they're the freaks playing with entrails.

I don't know much about all the politics going on there. And I don't know much about military strategy either. Though I did see that Ynet piece.

I just formed my opinion on this by asking my rabbi what halacha would indicate was the right thing to do. (As I expected) he told me that Pikuach haNefesh (saving lives) was the main order of the day. That meant killing as much of Hizballah as possible to save Israeli lives. I guess I just try to keep it simple.
Israel didn't do that, and their leader, Olmert, blew it. Even without Torah law, he surely had experienced people around him to tell him the right direction to go.
Sooner or later Israel's hand is going to be forced to do the right thing. From where I sit, all I can do is pray that it's sooner rather than later.

Not much to add about this. I see no point in seeing the video and I have to doubt that at any time there was a chance for Israeli soldiers body parts to be seized away and then desecrated. In fact a good number of the Israelis killed in these battles were killed while attempting to extract collegues from a battle zone.

The cease-fire was the end of a badly planned ca campaign, but it is still holding and will probably result in things as they were before. Hopefully without much more in loss in human (Israeli) life. The decision to go in in greater force just prior to the cease-fire was one of the better decisions.

My son is going up to the front on Sunday, but will probably not be going into Lebanon. One of the side benefits of being in artillery. Still the north is not a safe place to be despite the momentary lull.

I hope that Israeli society starts to draw the required lessons. Everything predicted about the retreat from Lebanon and Gaza have been shown to be much closer to the truth than what was said against us (Israeli right). I wish we could force the sharonistas to eat the shit they served us, but...
