-RetweetBreaking: Largest US Islamic Charity Raided

Mon, Sep 18, 2006 at 11:30:52 am PDT

Debbie Schlussel reports that the largest Islamic charity in the US, LIFE for Relief and Development, has been raided by the FBI.

UPDATE at 9/18/06 11:33:11 am:

Here’s a report at the Detroit Free Press: Federal agents raid Muslim charity in Southfield.

Federal counterterrorism agents raided a Muslim charity in Southfield on Monday morning, according to the FBI.

Agents with the FBI and Joint Terrorism Task Force executed search warrants at the headquarters for Life for Relief and Development, a Southfield-based charity that works in Arab and Muslim countries around the world.

The warrants were based on a criminal predicate, said William Kowalski, assistant special agent in charge for the Detroit office of the FBI. The affidavits in support of the warrants are sealed, he said.

At about 9 a.m., agents raided the Southfield office, hauling away documents, letters and ledgers, said Dawud Walid, head of the Michigan branch of the Council on American Islamic Relations. Agents told officials with the charity that the raid was related to some sort of criminal activity, Walid said.

UPDATE at 9/18/06 5:29:28 pm:

Here’s video of a spokesman for the Council on American Islamic Relations reading an “action alert” imploring Muslims to donate money for Lebanon through LIFE. (Hat tip: Ciaospirit.)

He avoids the subject he is in denial about the war that's going on right now. This is either because his worldview is crumbling around him, or he's just plain scared. Maybe both.

42 vapig  Mon, Sep 18, 2006 9:47:06am

All so-called moslim charities should be checked out. I've heard it sad that moslims don't believe in charity because it thwarts the will of ah-la-la. Which is why no real moslim out-pouring to the pali's and even to the tsunami victims.

When I read that and heard about the "charities" I believed firmly they were all fronts to funnel money to the terrorists.

43 equable  Mon, Sep 18, 2006 9:47:28am

Well after it's found that these monies went towards weapons and equipment, somehow it will be spun that these items are relief, in the fact that it helps the righteous soldiers of "allah" stave off the evil frigging Satan.

RICO can in theory be used against any "enterprise" engaged in certain criminal activities. All muslims are required by the koran to defend muslim lands from the infidel invaders. This is part of the definition of jihad. They can defend it through "sword, tongue or purse". Of these three ways the west will do nothing for the "tongue" jihadis who support the cause with words. We have laws against terrorists and those who give to certain "charities". I think this raid is mostly likely just "purse" jihadis being apprehended.

Someone told me no flag can be ‘above’ the US flag – so should the Israeli flag be below the US flag (they’re on separate poles and stick out at a 45 degree angle from the same column)?

Also, is it considered disrespectful to fly the Israeli flag (I’m catholic) during Rosh Hashanah if you’re not Jewish?

Anything else I should know (this is right outside Boston, btw)?

Thanks for the expertise…

I was in DC the summer before 9/11, and the on thing that haunted me was the women in burkas, hawking charities on the mall. Dangling participle?

I was approached multiple times, shown pictures of the victims of Sadaam's tyranny. I must have been naive, because my thought was "I'm glad they're getting the word out about this" - I was sort of surprised when then asked for money.

After 9/11 I started looking at that incident as a brush with fronts for terrorism.

What I don't know is if that makes me smarter or just more cynical.

Americans Urged to Help Ease Suffering in Lebanon, Palestine

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

CAIR ACTION ALERT #495

AMERICANS URGED TO HELP EASE SUFFERING IN LEBANON, PALESTINE

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/24/06) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called on Americans of all faiths to collect humanitarian relief supplies for delivery to Lebanon and the Palestinian Territories. CAIR is urging that the collection of relief aid be carried out following regular congregational prayers this week in American mosques, churches, synagogues, and other houses of worship.

Life for Relief and Development (LIFE), a 501(c)(3) organization that is registered with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has agreed to receive the humanitarian supplies and deliver them those in need. SEE: Life for Relief and Development, [Link: www.lifeusa.org...]

CAIR is asking that actual relief supplies be gathered because of the severe restrictions currently placed on financial aid by the U.S. government.

“A strong humanitarian response by the American people will send a powerful message of hope and support to the Lebanese and Palestinian men, women and children caught up in the current humanitarian disaster,” said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED:

CAIR is asking religious leaders of all faiths to announce this important humanitarian effort and to aid in collecting and sending the supplies to LIFE.

1. FILL A BOX with JUST ONE of the following items: diapers, water purification tablets (can be obtained at most camping stores), flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil, powdered milk, lentils (By placing only one type of item into the box, you aid the collection effort and speed delivery by saving time spent sorting items in the warehouse.)

* Food should be mailed in small boxes, no larger than 16”×12”×12.”
* Diapers should be mailed in medium-sized boxes, no larger than 24”×18”×18.”
* The maximum weight of each box should not exceed 40 pounds.
* Each box should contain only ONE TYPE of the relief supplies listed above. (Example: a box of lentils)
* No pork or alcohol products will be accepted.

2. MAIL THE BOX TO:

I know people dont like to respond to off topic trolling, but I will anyway.

First, neither Charles nor the vast majority of posters on this site profess blind loyalty and 100% agreement with our 'beloved President'.

Most of us hate the spending and social programs (which you should love). Most of us feel the war has not been prosecuted fierce enough in favor of PC policies which have gotten soldiers killed in order to save face to your beloved world opinion. But, at least he is doing something to protect this country. What has any liberal done to secure this country against its enemies?

Second, I dont believe anything the Washington Post prints. But assuming its true, it would behoove the President to not put 5th column liberals in charge of important positions in Iraq. Since the early 20th century, when socialism took root, liberals have been shown to be traitors who always favor the enemies of this country over and over again. See Soviets acquiring the bomb venona, etc., etc. In fact, I am willing to wager that the vast majority of spies in the last 70 years have been democratic voters or liberal republicans. This does not include traitors like Kerry, Fonda, Penn, Clooney and Moore who actively give moral support to our enemies.

Hotel Islam – (with Apologies to the Eagles)
(sing to the tune of Hotel California)

On a dark desert highway, pullin’ out my hair
Started thinkin’ ‘bout Islam, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a big minaret
I toweled my head and just closed my eyes
I thought I’d stop for the night
There he stood in the doorway;
Imam looked up from his Dell
And I was thinking to myself,
'I may be walking through the gates of Hell'
Then he opened the Koran, said he’d show me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I Know I heard them say...

Welcome to the bullshit we call Islam
Mo is in charge here (Mo is in charge here)
Everyone will fear
Plenty of room in this Bullshit we call Islam
All around the world (all around the world)
Our banner‘ll be unfurled

Our minds are completely twisted, but no one will say that
We demand respect and tolerance, but we give none back
We are slowly invading, the coming Caliphate.
they will surrender to Islam, (but keep it under your hat)

So I called up the media,
They said there is no threat
they said, 'right now we’re working Christians and Jews, haven't got there yet
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake me up in the middle of the night
I KNOW I hear them say...

Welcome to the bullshit we call Islam
Mo is in charge here (Mo is in charge here)
Everyone will fear
We’re livin' it up in this bullshit we call Islam
explode a nice surprise (what a nice suprise)
But we’ll have alibis

Prayer rugs placed everywhere,
Women downstairs on ice
and they say 'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device'
And in the Mufti's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives,
But I won’t let them kill this beast

We’re a peaceful people, as long as
you submit to us
If you don’t, we’ll just cut off your head
After making a great big fuss
'Relax,' said the Ummah,
'Islam is programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!'

Yes, I was about to say that the horizontal position is important, but what I have always been confused about, and #108 doesn't make clear to me, is if you have two poles on, say, either side of your front porch steps... which one should be the national ensign when looking at the house from the street?

I want to fly a US flag on my Canadian residence, but I don't want to break protocol and insult either country, even though Canada in general is less concerned with flag symbolism than USA.

There are quite a few standards for respectful flag display, most of which are unknown by those who fly them. The most common one I see is flags left flying overnight.

Sorry if this has already been posted, but the writer-director of Path to 9/11 has a great opinion piece in today's WSJ. It's so intelligent that it should make the other side ashamed of themselves.

Here's a key line:

"The Path to 9/11" was intended to remind us of the common enemy we face.

Of course, in reality, it did just that. The only thing he's missing is that the "common enemy" isn't limited to jihadists. It includes our own fifth column MSM and libscum...

Ten Mile Road? So, is that two miles from the Eight Mile?

Detroit is on a 1X1 mile grid, with all but a handful of major streets running north/south or east/west. Eight Mile is not only the northern border of the City of Detroit, it's also known on the east side as Baseline Road because it was used to platt out the rest of the state. You can take the mile roads very far west.

For Detroit area lizardoids, tell me, how do the major roads go west of Woodward, let's say, along 10 mile?

· The four escalators that are located in Galleria II near Ann Taylor and Brooks Brothers will be removed. The Godiva kiosk, the American flag, and the second level cross bridge between the former Rampage space and Bui-Yah-Kah will also be removed. Simon anticipates the project will be completed by Thanksgiving.

· The removal of the security office building in the Blue garage surface parking lot facing Westheimer will begin in September. Mall retail security (not office building security) will relocate their offices next to the U.S. Post Office on the rink level.

Right in procession. Yes, confusing.

Think of the flags as in parade in front of whatever. If your house, then your house & the flags in front are facing a direction. US flag will be on the right.

For all you sailors, think starboard.

Pakistan pack rape as reform laws stall

REPORTS of yet another pack rape in Pakistan emerged over the weekend as plans to amend laws aimed at making it easier to punish rapists stalled in the Islamabad parliament because of opposition from ultra-conservative Islamic parties.

The News International said a mother and daughter in a rural area had been abducted and gang-raped for 12 days because the daughter continued her schooling in defiance of villagers in her home near Multan.

It's interesting that they cite UN auditors claiming that the CPA didn't provide oversight of oil for food fund surplus, which is ironic considering that OFF was the mother of all scandals. About twice the amount of money claimed in the article that has gone down the rabbit hole at the hands of the Iraqis themselves was doled out by Saddam and his minions, siphoned off by shady characters in and out of the UN and all given a wink and nod from Kofi and his cronies.

There is a story there, which is one that reeks of the major flaws with bureaucracy - not something new, and not something strictly a GOP issue. However, I don't think the linked article is straight news. It's half investigative reporting and half opinion, from a guy whose writing appears regularly on LLL progressive Web sites. Also, it's more or less an excerpt from his book, which is due out in a few days, and I'm sure having the piece in WaPo now will help him to boost sales.

I noted that the book on Amazon has been firedoglake tagged.

By yesterday, the video had been viewed 346 times since it first appeared on the site a week ago. It was posted by a person using the username ZEROMX87.

In response to an email from The Sunday Telegraph, he wrote that he was Jorge Hernandez, an 18-year-old from Mexico, and had been inspired by Michael Moore's anti-war film Fahrenheit 9/11.

"I post them so people in the world will be able to see that the US is not having a good time in Iraq," he wrote. "My message for the families of the soldiers would be: that's the kind of thing that happens when the heroic people of a country defend their own families from an invader country that only tries to make money from war."

Getting close to quitting time around here but one quick note:
{Casey Kassam} Now this long distance dedication from a proud infidel to raving nut job of that far away Islamic nation that never seems to tire of running Iran.

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
Forward into battle see His banners go!

Refrain

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.

At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee;
On then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
Brothers lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.

Refrain

Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.
We are not divided, all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

Refrain

What the saints established that I hold for true.
What the saints believèd, that I believe too.
Long as earth endureth, men the faith will hold,
Kingdoms, nations, empires, in destruction rolled.

Refrain

Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,
But the church of Jesus constant will remain.
Gates of hell can never gainst that church prevail;
We have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail.

Refrain

Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.
Glory, laud and honor unto Christ the King,
This through countless ages men and angels sing.

Refrain

That should have been [Link: www.lifeusa.org...] not lifetoday.org. Lifetoday.org is one those shmarmy christian outfits helping Liberians.

As in:

The greatest irony is that [Link: www.lifeusa.org...] (AKA: Life for Relief and Development) shares their server space with jewishnationalfund.org & presidentialprayerteam.com as well as countless charities and non-profit organizations that all use Convio's servers and software to manage their constituencies.

And convio is one of the fastest growing IT companies in Texas no less.

Convio Headquarters

Convio is an Internet software and services company that provides online Constituent Relationship Management (eCRM) solutions for nonprofit organizations. As a trusted Internet partner for more than 600 organizations, we offer the software and services our clients need to connect with their constituents online.

While we are on the topic of Convio and their "good works" the FBI should take a boo at the SSL transactions logs that Convio has produced in the course of processing online donations for "Life for Relief and Development".

This has probably long since stopped being discussed, but in reference to the OT in #10, Ramesh Ponnuru at NRO The Corner calls it an imperial farce. Here's the kicker:

The bloggers who have decided they believe the Post's account - some of whom distrust the Post in general - don't know a thing about O'Beirne, but are happy to accept the veracity of an account that gibes so well with all of their prejudices.

Hey Gordon,
To quote our beloved President.
"SO WHAT"!
Imagine that, the Washington Post, printing
an excerpt from a Bush bashing book, written
by a moooslem.
THE HORROR!

Actually, I think the author is Indian. And, if the president's response to the fact that billions of dollars of our money was mismanaged by cronies lacking credentials was "So What", I think that would be a problem.

Yes, the author is of Indian origin. His name is Rajeev Chandrasekharan. The rebuttal in NOR is also by a person of Indian origin. How fitting.

More about this Rajeev Chandrasekharan. This guy was in Pakistan when the USA attacked the Taliban in Afghanistan. I think he rubbed some people on the wrong side. Musharaff had him thrown out. He moved over to India to report and the Gujarat riots happened on cue.

His reports were the most vitriolic anti-Indian reporting I have ever seen. After a bout of BJP-bashing he came back to the USA. When you get to bash the biggest of them all -GWB- do you think anyone will let slip that chance. And that is what he has been doing right from then.

To respond to the earlier inquiries, RICO requires a "pattern of racketeering activity," which has a specific definition under 18 USC &sect1961. Material support to terrorists is not currently listed as racketeering activity, as far as I know, although it is a separate federal offense. See 18 USC §&sect2339A, 2339B. However, money laundering and various forms of fraud are "racketeering activity" for RICO purposes, which may or may not apply depending on that this so-called "charity" has been up to...

Here’s an interesting article about all the mostly Russian weapons that were supplied to Hezbollah by Iran and Syria. The main thrust of the article is Hezbollah’s ability to intercept and use real time intelligence to direct attacks on tanks.

Hezbollah cracked the code
Technology likely supplied by Iran allowed guerrillas to stop Israeli tank assaults

Hezbollah guerrillas were able to hack into Israeli radio communications during last month's battles in south Lebanon, an intelligence breakthrough that helped them thwart Israeli tank assaults, according to Hezbollah and Lebanese officials.

Using technology most likely supplied by Iran, special Hezbollah teams monitored the constantly changing radio frequencies of Israeli troops on the ground. That gave guerrillas a picture of Israeli movements, casualty reports and supply routes. It also allowed Hezbollah anti-tank units to more effectively target advancing Israeli armor, according to the officials.

I question the effectivness of the program. If they were using the info in real time, I would hope that Hezbo's communications would have been intercepted by Israel and Israel would have changed methods or fed them counter-intel.
The article does show that even this type of aid as well as weapons was provided by Iran & Syria.

There's a lot more in the article.

Amazing to me most, is the moniker so quickly applied, such as "Nazi" "Imperical" and "Liar"

These are quickly affixed labels used at the drop of a hat by people who "care".

Why do you use them?

They are associated with a historical threat. The Nazis were a threat, so on, and so forth.
