-Retweet35,000 Demonstrate for Israel at UN

Wed, Sep 20, 2006 at 12:01:39 pm PDT

LGF reader NoSubmission was at the Stand By Israel rally at the United Nations today and emailed more than two dozen photographs that I’ve made into a slideshow: Stand By Israel Rally at the United Nations.

A cop I spoke to said there were about 35,000 people there which exceed the 15-20 thousand projected number. Two other groups were permitted to rally at Dag Hammerskold Plaza today, one being the Congo and the other a ‘pro middle east’ group [cop’s words]. He said only about 100 of the ‘pro middle east’ group showed up but they were NO WHERE to be seen. Streets were closed off, police everywhere, limos, sirens, lights. There were so many at the rally that they had to close off 2nd Avenue and keep the crowd on the other side of the street because the Plaza was completely full. Elie Weisel spoke and so did John Bolton and the wife of kidnapped Israeli soldier, Ehud Goldwasser.

What a great day in NY.

One Question, was there one Democrat there, just one.?

Actually there probably was. Not all upper level Dems are idiots when it comes to Israel.

When was the last time any protest exceeded the projection? Especially impressive given the standard "problem" of the good guys usually having jobs they have to go to.

Not to put any correlation between # of protestors and righteousness of the protest, but in this case, it works out.

There are lots of Democrats here in California who support Israel, inclding Senators Feinstein and Boxer. Feinstein was the keynote speaker at recent a pro-Israel rally in SF. The LLL's hate Pelosi because she supports Israel's right to defend its citizens from terror attacks.

A commenter here this morning said she was going there and it was recommended she send the photos. I'll assume this was her.

I used to work on E. 47th St. at 1st Ave., where they had a daily dose of protestors of some kind outside. For this, I'd gladly have joined in.

Hardly noted yesterday was that lowlife Jesse Jackson and some other antiwar scum were out there, but you could hardly say they had a crowd. 35,000 is impressive.

This is very good to see coming on the heels of the two speeches by the lunatic team of Ahcmad din jihad and Chavez...this must go up the Lefts ass a mile and I couldn't be happier about it.I can only add that if Venezuela is given the rotating seat on the Security Council,it should be the most obvious slap upside the head the US could get as to why we should quit this onerous organization and throw the UN out of Turtle Bay.

20 lawhawk  Wed, Sep 20, 2006 10:17:00am

Compare that with the demonstrations yesterday by the anti-war anti-US groups yesterday. Only about 3,000 showed up for those.

3,000 people joined in. am New York reported that one marcher was disappointed in the turnout: Paul Rosa said, "I understand people have to work, but there are four or five million people in this city who are against the war. For protests to be effective, they have to be massive and sustained." Which makes us wonder how many people would have liked to marched but couldn't because of work. The police reported 15 arrests.

Some OT links:

Eurozone could fall apart due to slow economic reforms, says report

The eurozone risks breaking up in the near future putting the entire EU single market into jeopardy unless member states – particularly Italy - undertake crucial economic reforms, according to a new report. Entitled Will the eurozone crack?, the report by the London-based Centre for European Reform, argues that instead of European Monetary Union in 1999 leading to progress in the reform needed for membership of a single currency zone, it resulted in national governments becoming complacent and no longer feeling obliged to push through unpopular economic changes.

Outrage in France after two police ambushed in suburb

Police unions reacted with outrage Wednesday after two members of a CRS anti-riot unit were badly hurt in an ambush by youths in the southern Paris suburb of Corbeil-Essonnes.

The men were patrolling Tuesday night in an unmarked car in the Les Tartarets housing project when the vehicle was attacked with stones, a police spokesman said.

When one of the officers left the vehicle, he was set upon by about 20 youths who had been hiding in the undergrowth.

"The driver rushed to help. The two were then covered in blows to the face and other parts of the body as they lay on the ground," the spokesman said. The gang dispersed when reinforcements arrived.

Both officers suffered injuries to the face and head, as well as bruising to the body. One was hospitalised.

The Synergie-Officier police union said it was "revolted by this savage attack ... These explosions of violence against the police are a kind of guerrilla warfare aimed at getting the forces of law and order to leave certain areas in order to immerse them in a logic of sedition and terror."

The UNSA union said the officers were "victims of a genuine ambush by individuals whose sole aim was to attack the forces of law and order."

Benedict says he was 'misunderstood' on Islam

Pope Benedict XVI said Wednesday his controversial speech in Germany, in which he quoted a 14th century Byzantine emperor as referring to elements of the Muslim faith as "evil and inhuman," had been misunderstood.

Addressing the faithful during his traditional mid-week general audience in Rome's St. Peter's Square, the pope said he did not mean to criticize Islam, but rather to promote "dialogue between religions and the modern world".

"I wanted to explain that religion and reason, not religion and violence, go together," he said.

The 79-year-old pontiff said he had a "profound respect for religions, and in particular towards Muslims, with whom we adore the only God and collaborate to defend rights, peace and freedom."

This is great to see, and great because it indicates that truth is the center of the moral West. On that note, a few OT reads:

George Weigel in the LA Times (a surprise):

The pope's third point — which has been almost entirely ignored — was directed to the West. If the West's high culture keeps playing in the sandbox of postmodern irrationalism — in which there is "your truth" and "my truth" but nothing such as "the truth" — the West will be unable to defend itself. Why? Because the West won't be able to give reasons why its commitments to civility, tolerance, human rights and the rule of law are worth defending. A Western world stripped of convictions about the truths that make Western civilization possible cannot make a useful contribution to a genuine dialogue of civilizations, for any such dialogue must be based on a shared understanding that human beings can, however imperfectly, come to know the truth of things.

Sounds reasonable.

Bret Stephens in the WSJ:

A Europe that cannot understand its own religion, except as a form of subjective irrationalism, cannot possibly engage another. A Christianity that voluntarily recuses itself from reason cannot sustain a belief in the goodness of its convictions, to say nothing of its truth. A West that abandons a critical dialogue between faith and rational inquiry ceases to be the West. It becomes, in a peculiar way, guilty of the same errors Benedict accuses Islam of making. This is the pope's teaching, and it requires no apology. Notice that he offers none.

I was there for about an hour. There were huge numbers of people - the pictures don't even begin to show the size of the crowd. And more were coming all the time. It took me quite a while just to get back out!

They came from all over the U.S. and were of all ages and persuasions.
And there were many Christians there holding up signs.

A priest spoke, saying that he was one Christian who wasn't going to be silent "this time." He got a lot of applause.

Relatives of the kidnapped Israeli soldiers also spoke.

I saw Yehudit and Mary of "Exit Zero" ([Link: whataretheysaying.powerblogs.com)...] there, too.

Although the West in 1936-1939 could not have predicted the death camps, they did have an idea of what was going on. I was at an antique show last spring. Someone was selling an American newspaper from 1938. In one of the bullet points below the headline of the German invasion of...(what was it again?) was this:

- Jews rounded up

But the peace at any price crowd did not care. At least in 2006 we know what the far left/far right wants to do and a few are taking action.

It will be ignored by the media because it was peaceful. The media only cares for violence or threats of violence. Jews are peaceful, they are ignored. Muslims burn and riot to show how Islam is peace. Media reaction: We must apoligize for the offense of calling them violent. crazy world.

Which was what was so disingenuous about his speech. He pushed all of the peacenik buttons; nobody in the mideast should have nukes, yadda, yadda, as he works full steam to get them himself. His aim was pretty transparent. Rile up the usual suspects at the UN to demand that Israel give up her Sampson option. All the while, building them himself.

I'm sure there are many more that are supporting it besides the 35,000 that showed up. Keep in mind that most conservatives don't protest because they are busy working to support those who attend the anti-American protests.

We would have to have a bicoastal gathering. One for the West Coast and one for the East coast. I think we could pull in a bunch of people. Just once I would like to attend a rally with like minded people. I live in a Southern college town that is liberal to the core. As a matter of fact in my part of the state our county was the only blue one surrounded by a sea of red in the 2004 election.

THe lack of media attention shows you how far the MSM/Dem machine has gone off the rails. In the past, any pro-Israel demonstration would see guaranteed attendance by the likes of a Shumer or Clinton. However token a gesture it might be, it was good for a local news clip.

Now, those cowards are afaid of angering their increasingly anti-Semitic base.

Excellent, what a great protest, and thanks for the pictures.

Now how many of us here are from the UK? Perhaps we could organise something similar? It appears the Great British Public are fed-up with islamists shoving their beliefs down our throats. That's the way it appears to me after watching Sky News tonight. The constant re-playing of the idiot who shouted at John Reid has certainly made an impact.

Maybe if we organised a protest in London there would be huge support?

The Democrats are going to commit treason and go along with all this for the sake of their own short sighted interest in retaking power of the Government.]

They are sacrificing the interests of the citizens of the USA for their own attempt at a power grab. They will remain silent at this onslaught of two bit dictators on the integrity and sanctity of the United States. The US population elected George Bush. These creaps survive on the money we have produced and give to them freely out of genourosity.

They spit in our faces on our own fucking soil. No one will do a thing about it. The US entire US government has been compromised! It's full of socialist traitors and complete pussies!

Thailand has just fell to Muslim control and Sharia Law will son follow. China has out entire ecomomic productive capacity for all invented products. We are loosing Manufacturing knowledge and capacity to a Communist nation. Commies and Arabs threaten the lives our president and our nations cititzens on our soil.

#66 WriterMom,

Amy-I can't tell you how scared I am lately that there is another time coming around. We are getting to the stage where there will have to be a confrontation with the Persian Nazi. He has the desire, just not the entire capability yet for another Holocaust.

Though this probably provides little comfort, this time my people won't have your back. We will be standing front and center and we are legion. If you live on the coasts or in Israel, you may not be aware of what the real heart of this country believes. If Mahmoud is going to get you, the little man is going to have to get us too.

Nosubmission,

As one who lives in Jesus Land, I sometimes have a difficult time relating to protests and feel very far away. Without the help of you, Zombie, and others, I wouldn't have an idea of these good works. Thank you for your effort!

Finally, I had a very difficult time comprehending much of the protest. They appeared in simple English, were grammatically correct, the spelling appeared satisfactory, people were dressed and looked normal, and each sign appeared to have a coherent thought. I guess I've grown so accustomed to the the anti-Semitic, anti-American types I feel as though I should be reading a crossword puzzle to figure out the message.

And it wasn't for "nuking a country off the map" as the troll dropped, but about taking out one guy, a clearly evil, genocidal tyrant.

And in a classic case of projection, it was said tyrant who wants to wipe a country off the map. But let's accuse his critics of that sentiment instead, hmmm?

Boxer is a left-wing lunatic, you'll get no argument from me. But despite all her faults, she is pro-Israel. She issued a statement supporting Israel's right to defend itself and correctly placing the entire blame on Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran. Give credit where it's due.

Coming from someone who proudly proclaims the following, I find you dubious to begin with:

I am proud to be an Eagle Scout as well as a card-carrying member of the ACLU, Amnesty International,...

Fair enough. I joined the ACLU and AI in my juvenile liberal, pre- 9/11 days. However they have become so ridiculously biased against the United States, that I quit both groups last year. In response to your post, I have removed them from my profile.

A prediction:

When the Council votes down sanctions, as those gutless wonders inevitably will, Bush is going bomb those nuclear installations into oblivion.

First he'll ask NATO nations like France and Turkey if he can use their territory as a staging ground, and when they refuse, he'll use Israel as a last resort, if he has to.

Don't tell me Condi and Rummy et al. haven't been gaming this scenario for years.

I think the Iranian midget is going to be aghast when he realizes he has no prayer in hell of nukes and he turns around and notices the 4th Infantry on his border.

Faster, please!

I make deep bow to your Linux zen, e2-san!

YES! This is what I'd like to see take place daily at the UN. Wow, I don't like big crowds but I'd have made it to this outstanding event. Great photos!

I've got a few more words for the UN -quoting english rappers Lady Sovereign and a nod to my now 12 yr old Jewish son "Love me or hate me it's still an obsession, love me or hate me that is the question - if you love me then THANK YOU if you hate me then FUCK YOU."

Yes, United Nations, I pray people hold vigil on your steps relentless in their pursuit of your accountability. You hypocritical snakes - your mongoose is coming.

Affinity claims to not be a Muslim

I know, I don't believe her. :)

I'm a he. And with all respect, what you believe I am hardly changes reality. I'm not sure where in the world you live, but where I do, you don't need to be the victim in question to speak against overt racism and hate.

I must say its humorous envisioning a female, muslim version of me however. Cant say I can quite picture it.

188 Earth2moonbat  Wed, Sep 20, 2006 1:59:50pm

Amalie - it called you childish. Time to make a piniata out of it.

Affinity,

I don't usually address you because you are a shit an run (without wiping) poster, but my god, you are one equivocating ass. They look nothing like yer muslima brothers and sisters when they protest. No wild eyes, no fists raised, no screaming slogans that the Imam planted in their heads. Sit on a bottle and rotate you peice of shit.

Nice to meet you too. You must be from the 'good' side, right? Yeah, you seem like it. What they 'look' like wasnt the point- the message was. And Im not muslim.

Thank you for coming along and showing us the error of our ways.

How dare we insult Islam. If we would just submit all would be peace and love.
It is our hate and racism that is causing the followers of Islam to lash out at us.

I hope, for all of your sakes, theres a cure for moral hypocrisy.

You're the only moron that can take a cacaphony of Muslims spewing hatred, calls for the Pope to be executed if he visits Turkey, and all of the millions of other
Muslim atrocities against the civilized world, and compare that with a single protest sign calling for the nuking of one of your precious "leaders" and morally equivocate that. You excuse the horrendous behavior and actions of Muslims worldwide. You have no shame.

And, you are just another troll in need of a real education.

What part of Afghanistan & Iraq don't you understand. Staging ground, sheesh.

You are not getting the moral nuances of Affinity. You need to understand that a few schmucks holding signs saying nuke Iran is the same as the leader of a country actually pursuing nuclear weapons who has called for the destruction of the Jewish people.

Just as someone posting something nasty on this website is the same as those who actually incinerated 3000 on 9/11. That shoot 70 yr old nuns in the back. That strap bombs on and blow up innocent people going about their everyday lives.

Note the deafening silence of the Islamoscum when faced with the Psycho ranting of Dinnerjacket--yet Muslim hysteria and frothing rages on about the Pope's benign comments--the Muslim street is awash with hate and loathing while Islamic Leaders profess peace and brotherhood--Bush is still attempting to deny the truth of a clash of Civilized Nations against these Islamist Terrorist Barbarians--the key to survival of free Societies is to expunge the Iranian threat and neutralize the Pakistan breading ground for the Taliban.

I think it speaks volumes for the agenda of the MSM that the only New York City area newspaper to carry a story today about the rally is The Sun: [Link: www.nysun.com...]

Nothing in the Times, the Daily News, the Post... I guess 35-40,000 people descending upon the U.N. isn't newsworthy.

From your link:

Mr. Dershowitz also announced the preparation of an indictment to be drafted against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its leader, accusing Mr. Ahmadinejad of inciting genocide against the Jewish people. "This indictment poses the perfect test case to see whether or not these international organizations have the will, determination and ability to take action before a genocide is completed rather than merely to build memorials for past victims," he said.

This will be interesting to watch.

222 Amy  Thu, Sep 21, 2006 6:02:20am

E2m #221

It will be interesting, indeed, but that blurb really doesn't tell me much.

I don't know what court he's referring to, or what laws such an indictment would be brought under, or even who would be drafting such an indictment.

Indictments are drafted by the prosecuting authority (city, state, national or international), based upon a specific statute and brought before the court that has jurisdiction over the particular offense.

So the fact that Dershowitz is talking about somebody (he doesn't say who) drafting an indictment doesn't tell me anything about by whom, what or where.

223 Earth2moonbat  Thu, Sep 21, 2006 6:45:05am

#222 Amy

Obviously you know the legal ins and outs better than I do, but this snippet:

This indictment poses the perfect test case to see whether or not these international organizations have the will, determination and ability to take action...

Suggests to me that this isn't a court action per se, but an appeal to the "international organizations", read UN agencies, such as the human rights council. I read between the lines that his purpose isn't to get satisfaction, but to show them for what they are. But maybe he does have something else in mind.

Heh, talk about moral hypocrisy! Haven't heard you say one word about Iran's threats to blow Israel off the face of the planet, or the murder of a Christian nun in the Sudan during the latest Islamic hissy-fit, or threats to kill the Pope.

But, according to you I guess, criticizing Islam is heinous, whereas Jews all probably deserve to die, and the Pope (and that uppity nun) got what they were asking for.

What a piece of work you are! Physician, heal thyself!

BabbaZee

I love Cinema BabbaZee! Sheer genuis! More, more!

225 Flavia  Mon, Sep 25, 2006 4:33:40am

I hope everyone takes careful note of at least one of the pictures. I think it is #24: there were Orthodox Jews at the rally. The next time someone tries to hand you or anyone else a line about how "Orthodox Jews don't really support Israel", you can tell them that the Neturei Karta are a small fringe whacko minority, and use that photo as proof.
