-RetweetSelective Censorship at YouTube

Wed, Oct 4, 2006 at 11:54:22 am PDT

Riding Sun points out that while YouTube is censoring and limiting access to conservative and anti-jihad videos (even canceling one user’s account), you can still find deranged antisemitic and pro-terrorist propaganda all over the place with no restrictions: Selective censorship on YouTube.

GaijinBiker posts several links to such videos, but here’s one of the worst, an incredibly vile show from Iranian state television: Zionist interest & ‘Western’ products - Divest from Israel!

UPDATE at 10/4/06 12:55:10 pm:

The video linked above has now been removed from YouTube, because it was a MEMRI TV clip with their logo covered up.

Shame on YouTube.

So the People's TV is still not really free and democratic.

So sad.

Islam and Democrats (you could almost consider them partners) reserve the right to be offended, everyone else must deal with it.

Zionist interest & ‘Western’ products - Divest from Israel!

Ok, let's all flag it as inappropriate. Not that anything will happen, but it'll prove something.

I second Ward's motion.

10 martelbrigade  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:01:59am

Any lawyers out there interested in becoming a thorn in the side of YouTube? Or we could try to get the ACLU to do something useful for once.

11 jfromfolsomca  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:02:02am

I'll have to check out the ads on YouTube and consider whether or not I want to buy their products any more.

Instead of writing our complaints here on LGF (only) someone should find the contact information for youtube...& we shoudl write them to complain 1st! The reason that these organizations and others pick a side is because the "other side" contacts them, complains, threatens, etc. We should stop being observers & start being participants.

15 Mirage  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:05:04am

Only time will tell if the supposed place of free speech is really a place of free speech. I'd prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt and it's just taking time to flag things equally, but I know that's possibly wishful thinking on my part. They don't seem to realize that if they go the "protect themselves" route, they're signing their own "going out of business" papers.

16 friarstale  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:06:01am

(and they were approved by EU Referendum)

17 aishel  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:06:54am

I just flagged the movies as inappropriate. We'll see if anything comes of it.

18 WrathofG-d  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:07:21am

HOLD ON EVERYONE...THIS IS NOT A "FREE SPEECH" ISSUE.

Youtube is a private company & can choose to show whatever videos they want. We can complain about it if we think their choices are incorrect.

BUT THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE OF FREE SPEECH.

Let's not whine & incorrectly state the issue as the moonbats always do.

There is no law forcing Youtube to show both sides...especially not the 1st Amendment.

19 Mojo Jojo  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:07:42am

I smell arab money. YouTube is a private company so it's hard to tell who's funding them. All that broadband access costs mega$$$. So I wouldn't be surprised if an oil tick was a major investor.

20 stormhit  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:08:42am

Flag the video, and wait to see what happens. If they don't remove it after it's been brought to their attention, that's when there's an issue.

21 Alex F  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:09:43am

I don't think it's all bad that they're not censoring the anti-semitic and hatefilled videos.

Better that everyone see who those people are!

22 Earth2moonbat  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:10:49am

#18 WrathofG-d

There is no law forcing Youtube to show both sides...especially not the 1st Amendment.

Correct. Howerver there's a reasonable expectation that if they are politically biased, that they admit it, and not lie.

23 humanity  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:11:40am

can't we make our own server mounting anti-jihadi vedios...to hell with Flash and youtube.. and other copyrighted dhimi stuffs... lets go SVG.

OK.. i am looking in future... but what... we need something like this...

24 scooter  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 10:11:44am

This may have something to do with the selective censorship and may be a harbinger of more to come:

"30 SECONDS ON ... WARNER MUSIC AND YOUTUBE
- Publisher Warner/Chappell Music was founded by studio boss Jack Warner in 1929 to deal with music for films; Warner Bros Records started in 1958.

- YouTube was set up by three former PayPal employees in a California garage in February 2005. It is the UK's fastest-growing online brand, according to Nielsen//NetRatings, growing almost fivefold from January to have 3.6m unique users in July.

- Warner Music labels include Atlantic and Elektra; its artists include Madonna.

- In August, Warner signed up as YouTube's first promotional brand page advertising partner with a page promoting Paris Hilton's album.

- Warner has agreed to license and distribute material on YouTube, which will roll out a content identification and royalty-reporting system to identify videos and manage payments. The system will also allow the label to review and approve or reject home-made videos featuring its copyrighted material."

In this she states that if the guy who killed the Amish girls didnt have a gun, the women would have defended the children.

8 Step Action Plan To Help Stop Women To Be STONED TO DEATH In Iran

I didn't think there were "hundreds of thousands or billions of dollars" in the global economy.

Who knew?

Earth2Moonbat:

Yes, I agree that if they are so completely biased it is 100% for us to point it out & act accordingly.

I was just trying to stop the crazy talk about "free speech" & "the 1st amendment".

As you know, we here on LGF tend to bag bigtime on the moonbats when they scream "1st Amendment Violation" when there isn't one.

I was just making a point of clarification.

#31 wrathofG-d

Agreed about it not being a 1st amendment issue. It's all about parity and consistency across the board. There is a definite selective application with regards to application of established rules which is what people irate. The 1st amendment calls are just a way of throwing the other side's usual arguement back at them.

Use your flags judiciously in the future and tell other Lizoids about this.

Great news that YouTube has figured out that their terms of agreement are not allowed to only prohibit conservative speech.

58 cobalt blue  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 11:11:08am

Youtube cancelled my user account on the ground of inappropriate content: I had a number of what could be called pro-western videos that generated a lot of negative comments from moonbats. None of the videos were obscene or pornographic, of course. My account was up for a long time and then just this week it was cancelled.

Meanwhile jihad propaganda and 911 conspiracy videos are thriving on youtube.

I smell a bias.

60 oilbertan  Wed, Oct 4, 2006 11:29:02am

The hypocrisy of the so called progressives at you tube, google etc is laughable. On the one hand anything deemed detrimental to islam is verbotten but anything can be posted criticising christians, jews or any other religion. Perhaps it is time for those religious groups to take a page from the islamofanatics playbook and start reacting more violently to any perceived slight. These dimwits, for all of their education fail to grasp that these people will never be appeased (until we are all dead or certified dhimmis) and that each time they fold under the slightest bit of pressure just makes the islamofanatics demand more subservience.

 Frank says:

There were 45 men in the jail cell, the toilet and shower had never been cleaned, the temperature was 110 degrees so you couldn't sleep night or day, there were roaches in the oatmeal, sadistic guards, and everything that was nice. -- Zappa 1969 interview. This had happened during the days of Studio Z in Cucamonga (1963). Frank was released on bail (his father took out a bank loan to pay for it). Frank had been busted for "conspiracy to commit pornography," after making a silly recording of suggestive sexual sounds (giggling edited out) for someone who had asked him to provide a "special" tape recording for a stag night. That someone turned out to be Detective Willis of the San Bernadino Vice Squad. Their conversation was recorded by a hidden microphone and this was used as evidence at Zappa's trial.
