-RetweetHonest Reporting: Time Gets Caught Lying

Thu, Nov 16, 2006 at 2:11:40 pm PST

Honest Reporting has a look at the revelation by photojournalist Bruno Stevens that his pictures from Lebanon were published with misleading captions by Time Magazine: Time Magazine Gets Caught Lying.

I’m not holding my breath waiting for Time to account for their outrageous distortions. Mainstream media are curiously uninterested in stories like this.

This thread is dead...

4 wong fei hung  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:15:42pm

Of course they're disinterested, Charles.

You're trying to take away their bread & butter: deception.

5 jkwest  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:15:56pm

Where is everyone?

6 cimom  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:17:12pm

I can't stand TIME magazine. Someone please tell me they'll lose readers (and money) over this.

7 Golem Akbar  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:17:48pm

This thread is very much alive. Does Newsweek know about it? How about US News and World Report? Any competitor mag to Time should get this info. Sliming the competition is the currency of the media. Let 'em at it.

If a liberal magazine publishes a lie in a forrest of the MSM, is it still reported ?

/you get the picture

9 TotallySirius  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:18:28pm

About time they get called for their BS.

10 tankdemon  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:18:36pm

Of course Time is noit going to print a correction. If they had to print a correction/retraction every time they got something wrong, our northwestern states would have about as much forest acrage left as the Saharra.

11 mama winger  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:19:00pm

I just work from the general assumption that TIME is lying and go from there.

12 christheprofessor  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:19:05pm

Time's been a leftist rag for as long as I can remember (as has been Newsweek). Facts have always taken a backseat to their agenda (if offered a seat at all, I might add).

13 brent  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:21:16pm

I give up going back to CNN, Time, CBS on this crap.

Here is my new plan: every time I find something like this out, I tell at least 2 people, and I ask them to tell 2 more. See if I can drown out their lies in a sea of truth.

Just like that shampoo commercial, except with the truth. And without that orgasm sound, I assume.

14 TotallySirius  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:21:50pm

They don't even believe their own journalist and ran with the terrorist supplied caption.

Its time for Time to fade into the dustbin of history.

15 crashnburn  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:22:15pm

The captions for the pictures used in our "Israeli Monsters Attack Innocent Lebonese Children" stories were mispelled. We apologize for the error.

Thats how they'll take care of it!

16 tankdemon  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:22:35pm

7 golem-

I think US News and World Report used the same picture and similarly miscaptioned it. See here.

17 Golem Akbar  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:24:13pm

Let the Jewish media know about it, too. The Forward will do the story, for example. The Forward may be very liberal, but they don't stand for having Israel slandered.

18 EtNorskTroll  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:24:50pm

Nah.

I'm not holding my hand over a candle while waiting for that.

Sometimes a work of fiction is dead-on true. Consider Jameson's attitude in the Spiderman comic books and movies. He doesn't care about high moral principles or the TRVTH, he wants sensational headlines that sell papers.

A few days ago I linked to a Time article about God being dead...again.

No question who's side they are on.

Stan's!

Maybe you're right. They need to be informed, because at least US News doesn't like being snookered by their sources.

By the way, Honest Reporting does a good job getting out the word.

22 TMF  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:27:59pm

Who the hell reads TIME?

I see stained copies of it in doctors offices but I didnt think anyone actually read (or purchased) it

23 allah al fubar  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:28:53pm

Time magazine became toilet paper about 15 years ago.

Next subject, please.

Does that mean Cartman will cancel his subscription?

Man, I hate that Stan

26 MandyManners  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:30:44pm

No wonder Larry King doesn't use the Internet! He'd find out just how crooked his fellow MSM whores are.

Me too.

28 vet_Missing_Parts (1LT, Ret)  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:31:34pm

I only read Time in the little waiting area after giving blood (while drinking OJ and eating cookies).

It's my bi-monthly check on the liberal left.

10 minutes later, I'm outa there ready to throw up.

I would.

However I think Twitch uses Time when he runs out of TP.

Newsnight Special just starting Live Online Here

The BBC's security correspondent Gordon Corera has - over a period of many months - obtained exclusive access to Omar Nasiri (not his real name) who worked for European security agencies during the 1990s and infiltrated al Qaeda both in the camps of Afghanistan and in terror cells in London.

Why do I always feel like that character in the film "The Ritz". The one who couldn't get laid in a gay bath house and ended up running around with a megaphone shouting...

"There Will be an orgy starting in room 40 in ten minutes ...Orgy Room 40...Ten Minutes"
32 allah al fubar  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:33:46pm

Here's a thought... What if all the Stan's are named after Stan himself!

Afghan-i-Stan. Uzbek-e-Stan. Pak-i-Stan. France-i-Stan. London-i-Stan.

/heh

The know it. US News and World Report put that damned picture on its cover. No explanation.

I wonder who reads LGF and sees this stuff. Glenn Beck had an excellent show on Islamofascism last night on CNN-HN, for example, and a lot of it reminded me of the postings on LGF. Lots of people read this blog, and a lot of media types, too. My bet is that this story is far from dead.

37 mica_ar  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 12:43:35pm

The news isn't that Times was lying- it's that they got caught.

Major MSM coverage of this in 3 ... 2 ... 1...

(cricket sound)

40 1560 SHP  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 1:08:19pm

Really. Huh.

http://in.news.yahoo.com/061110/137/6990c.html

Interesting parts:

A spokeswoman was not immediately available to explain why Time is raising its newsstand price and cutting its rate base.

Time's newsstand, or single-copy, sales fell 24 percent in the first half of 2006, compared with the same period a year ago, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

Its total circulation rose 1.2 percent to more than 4 million copies, according to the Audit Bureau.

Even with the drop in its guaranteed paid circulation, Time would still be ahead of circulation figures published in August by rivals Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report.

Newsweek reported circulation of 3 million and U.S. News & World Report reported circulation of about 2 million.

Many magazines and newspapers are facing falling circulation as more readers abandon printed editions for the Internet and other media.

41 FrogMarch  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 1:09:37pm

Time *spit*

42 traveler  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 1:21:44pm

Time should have stuck with their original cover story for that week: K-Fed's new rap album!

43 sngnsgt  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 1:31:09pm

Fake but accurate?

Nah, that's already been used.

44 Colin Nelson  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 1:34:09pm

Anyone have a circulation figure for Time USA edition?

Any idea what the figure was say, 25 years ago? Nuff said.

Most of the editors and staff think Walter Cronkite is still the anchor at CBS.

I’m not holding my breath waiting for Time to account for their outrageous distortions. Mainstream media are curiously uninterested in stories like this.

So who needs to read another phoney-baloney soulsearching internal memo from these guys, anyway? Let 'em keep mum; it won't work.

48 Ward Cleaver  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 3:30:53pm

TIME magazine? SLIME magazine.

49 leftout  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 3:53:12pm

Unfortunately most Americans still consider Time magazine a warm fuzzy icon of yesteryear. They have no idea that it is a propaganda tool for the secular progressive march toward worldwide socialist government.

WAKE UP AMERICA!

50 mjazzguitar  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 6:58:46pm

I thought they were a bunch of butt-wipes when, covering the infant-ada, they said, "Arafat has worn many hats, freedom fighter..."

51 Clio  Thu, Nov 16, 2006 7:25:50pm

Years ago, when Menahem Begin (RIP) became Prime Minister of Israel, TIME helpfully informed its readers that
"BEGIN RHYMES WITH FAGIN"

It did not take any great ingenuity for some then to comment "TIME RHYMES WITH SLIME"

52 right wing zephyr  Fri, Nov 17, 2006 2:53:56am

If you think this is something you should see the Japanese and Euro versions of Time Mag.

WOAH!

53 right wing zephyr  Fri, Nov 17, 2006 2:58:23am

OH and I know that I'm waaay late to this thread but I also wanted to share that I regularily run into people who think certain Bushisms from SNL and 'news' from Stewart and Colbert is actual, historic fact.

I scoff.

54 Skorch  Fri, Nov 17, 2006 6:06:12am

Slime magazine has never been a credable source of information. It should go the way of "Look" magazine...and now you all know how old I am...
