Hamas Cameraman Killed in Gaza

Fri, Nov 24, 2006 at 11:08:27 am PST

Here’s an interesting report from Gaza: Hamas cameraman killed by Israeli troops. (Hat tip: Killgore Trout.)

Israeli troops killed a Hamas militant Friday who was filming the group’s operations in Gaza, Palestinian medical officials said.

The governing Hamas movement often films its battles and operations against the Israeli Army, later broadcasting the footage on its television station and releasing it to other media outlets.

Notice how the Associated Press doesn’t name the cameraman, or any of those “other media outlets” that use Hamas footage.

I don’t recall ever seeing any video or photos from Gaza identified as being from Hamas.

Beware of gun-wielding cartoonists.

MIAMI - A gun-wielding cartoonist dressed in camouflage entered The Miami Herald's building and demanded to speak with an editor Friday, prompting an evacuation of employees, police said.

No injuries were immediately reported, and police spokesman Delrish Moss said authorities believed the man was isolated on the newspaper's sixth floor, which houses the Herald's Spanish-language publication, El Nuevo Herald. Officers set up a perimeter around the downtown building.

The man came through the front door with what appeared to be a machine gun, Moss said.

It wasn't clear whether employees from other floors were being evacuated, but about 60 people were gathered outside the building.

don't know if this made the humanitarian thread about Russia supplying Iran but

Moscow has consistently defended its weapons trade with Iran. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said the contract for 29 rocket systems, signed in December last year, was legitimate because the Tor-M1 has a purely defensive role.

ITAR-TASS reported that the rockets were to be deployed around Iran's nuclear sites, including the still incomplete, Russian-built atomic power station at Bushehr.

And sure enough:

Gaza – IOF troops killed Friday a Palestinian young man working in the information office of the Qassam Brigades and a nine-year-old Palestinian boy in two separate incidents in the northern Gaza Strip.

Ayman Joudah, 21, from the Jabalya was killed by an IOF sniper when he was trying to cover the clashes between the Palestinian resistance and the IOF invading troops to the east of Jabalya, in the northern Gaza Strip.

The Qassam Brigades mourned Joudah saying that he participated in numerous dangerous missions before his martyrdom.

33 Kenneth  Fri, Nov 24, 2006 9:46:38am

Don't you know, Hamas is actually a media organization, which also happens to hold "political theatre" events.

But seriously, the curious thing about the report is that AP seems genuinely unaware that a terrorist organization having a camerman is at all peculiar. The reason they don't see the incongruity is kind of like the case of the dog that didn't bark. AP reporters see their own work as politcal activism, and they use cameras. And AP reports describe Hamas as political activists, therefore their having cameras is no different. In other words, AP doesn't see any difference between what their reporters do, and what Hamas does.

Why I'm backing Israel by Lorna Fitzsimons, in the Guardian!?

The left and the Islamists portray me as a Zionist neocon, but it takes two sides to make a peace deal...

We live in dangerous times when, in parts of the left especially, you can't be a friend to Islam or to Muslims unless you are anti-Israel. That is exactly what al-Qaida wants us to think. Events in Rochdale at the last election represent a microcosm of what we are sleepwalking into globally. The Islamists and the left argued that, because I supported Israel and its right to exist, all my work for my Muslim constituents was a lie. They suggested I was an opportunistic, neocon Zionist, aiming to dupe them.

Israel's willingness to compromise for peace has never been enough, because Israel alone cannot gain peace. The Palestinians and others in the region also have to want peace. Israel needs a serious interlocutor so that peace can stand a chance. So my question to the left is this: why not concentrate your attention there, rather than on the one player in the region who has always been serious about peace?

It's in the Guardian, so you can imagine the filth in some of the comments.

Saddam tape reveals odd details
Nov. 24, 2006 at 1:22PM

Besides WMDs, a tape of Saddam Hussein shows the deposed Iraqi leader may also have been interested in slingshots and crossbows.
The previously undisclosed video footage lasts 20 minutes and was believed made months prior to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, The New York Times reports.
While it is known Saddam had biological weapons and was suspected of pursing nuclear weapons, the tape shows him discussing with his top advisers slingshots, Molotov cocktails and crossbows. Hussein is seen beaming as his officers displayed these items on a table.
The Times report said it was not clear whether the scene was being taped for propaganda purposes or for insurgency planning.
The footage shows Saddam aiming a slingshot and shooting an arrow from a crossbow at a door. He is also seen telling his officers to get such weapons to the people, saying: "Let's use all the methods we can. These methods can be made at home."

From Patterico's Pontifications
Another media phoney report from Iraq:

Is the L.A. Times Repeating Enemy Propaganda? Or Is There Another Reason The Paper Is Getting Basic Facts Wrong and Failing to Report the Military’s Side?

You be the judge.

On November 15, the L.A. Times ran an article titled Iraqi residents say U.S. airstrike kills 30. The article emphasized that 30+ people, including women and children, were killed in an airstrike. A headline proclaimed: “Victims include women and children, witnesses in Ramadi say. The military has no immediate comment.” The story began as follows:

BAGHDAD — A U.S. airstrike in the restive town of Ramadi killed at least 30 people, including women and children, witnesses said Tuesday.

The aerial attack, which took place late Monday, brought the number of violent deaths reported in Iraq on Tuesday to at least 91, according to military sources and witnesses.A Times correspondent in Ramadi said at least 15 homes were pulverized by aerial bombardment and families could be seen digging through the ruins with shovels and bare hands.

Last Friday, my reader Tom Blumer sent me a link to an interesting blog post, by a blog called “One Oar in the Water,” which attacked the L.A. Times story about the Ramadi airstrike. The post quoted what purported to be an e-mail from a soldier who was involved in the Ramadi incident. The e-mailing soldier claimed that the “Times correspondent in Ramadi” has ties to the insurgency, and is knowingly repeating enemy propaganda

The [L.A. Times article] is an example of why you simply cannot believe most media reports coming out of Iraq. The LA Time[s] reporter, Solomon Moore, is not in Ramadi. He relies on an Iraqi stringer here who has ties to insurgents. In this article, Moore repeats almost verbatim, insurgent propaganda we have intercepted. The fighting in question occurred in my battle space within Ramadi and I was personally and intimately involved.

The soldier then disputed certain assertions made in the L.A. Times article. The soldier said that there had been no airstrike, and that only a few insurgents had been killed, by small-arms fire and tank fire.

I wouldn't be surprised that the "file" is actually a header, and Billy Boy did it this way specifically to prevent downloading.

Yup, OSX -- i.e. Unix. I also think the Microsoft specifically designed them to be undownloadable. More user-friendliness out of Redmond! (/sarc.)

Woman suicide bomber's family: We're very proud

I bet they are.

Her family said she had nine children and nearly 30 grandchildren. She was the first known Palestinian grandmother to attempt a suicide bombing against Israelis.

"I am very proud of what she did. Allahu Akbar (God is greatest)," one of her sons, Fuad, 31, told Reuters.

On a video released by Hamas, the woman read out a statement saying said she wanted to dedicate her death to Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails and to Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas.

They are not human.

The NY Post calls her Gran Bomb. They have a Reuters story which has a different age than the Ynet piece.

By NIDAL al-MUGHBARI, Reuters, Wire Services

November 24, 2006 -- GAZA - Meet Fatima, the gun-toting 64-year-old grandma of 41 who blew herself up in a suicide attack against Israeli soldiers yesterday.

Before Fatima Omar Mahmud al-Najar, a mother of nine, set off on her evil mission, she made the traditional propaganda film.

Dressed to kill
in a black suicide belt and white headscarf and holding an M-16, she told the camera, "I offer myself as a sacrifice to God and to the homeland."

Reading from a sheet of paper, she dedicated her attack to the Hamas-led Palestinian government and its military commander, Mohammed Deif.

"I hope God accepts it," she said.

Fortunately, the world's oldest Palestinian suicide bomber took no one with her - only slightly injuring three Israeli soldiers.

Al-Najar had seven sons and two daughters.

I'm sure there's a way, but you'll need someone a little nerdier than me to figure it out. What exactly is it supposed to be? Do you think the authors intended it to be inaccessable, or are they just using MS software with it's defaults?

Her family is proud? They must be insane, because no one in their right mind would want to see their loved one blown to bits, and have to be collected with a spatula off the sidewalk. This is the highest apiration for the jihadis and Hamas - the government of the Palestinians, elected by Palestinians.

They want this stuff? Well, there's two other possibilities. Israel has gotten wise to Hamas and the other jihadi suicide bombing tricks that they've had to recruit senior citizens and kids because they're the last chance that Hamas can get bombers.

The other is that there simply aren't others willing to blow themselves up, so they're left with the 68th string to attack Israel in futile attempts.

Oh, but remember that Hamas wouldn't mind peace with Israel on its terms - Israel ceases to exist and we'll have peace. Israel withdraws from Sderot and the rockets will stop raining down on the city...

Grrrr.. gonna raise the blood pressure if I keep on this rant. So, I'll let this fill in the rest.

Woman suicide bomber's family: We're very proud

Cleared for publication: Shin Bet exposes Islamic Jihad women's network

It has been cleared for publication that the Shin Bet has exposed during the months of August and September a network of women operating for the Islamic Jihad as part of the organization's terror infrastructure in the West Bank.

The network is split into two terror cells – one in Kfar Ayin and one in Kfar Na'ama – that have carried out shooting attacks and have laid roadside bombs around Ramallah. The network has even operated an explosives lab. The Shin Bet and the IDF have arrested a number of the network's members. (Efrat Weiss)

This is a death cult. Hamas, as well as her family, were happy to have her kill herself, in order to bring sympathetic media reports. Life is of little value in a death cult.

It is too bad that the mainstream media oblige, using Palestinian stringers to provide the reporting, giving sympathetic reports, and encouraging Hamas to continue to essentially murder their own people for the propaganda value that they get from it.

Normally, one does not expect any group to be murdering their own people. But in a death cult society, this happens.

Gowadia, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in India, was also charged with sending classified U.S. stealth technology to China. Gowadia, arrested in November 2005, reportedly was involved in designing the B-2 stealth bomber's propulsion system.

The indictment said Gowadia designed for China a low-observable cruise missile exhaust system nozzle to reduce the chances of enemy detection and interception.

Gowadia was also charged with attempting to sell Germany and Israel stealth technology capable of concealing the signature of commercial aircraft.

The indictment does not say whether Germany and Israel received the stealth technology.

The indictment has sparked allegations from members of the U.S. national security community that the FBI has played down Israeli espionage. The last person arrested for spying for Israel was Jonathan Pollard, then a U.S. Navy analyst, who was sentenced to life in prison. Israel has denied any link to Gowadia.

"Our closest ally in the Middle East, a recipient of more than $2 billion a year in direct U.S. aid, is aggressively spying on us," said Jeff Stein, national security editor of Congressional Quarterly. "Not only that, Israeli spymasters are largely exempt from U.S. prosecution on espionage charges, say past and present counterintelligence agents, unless their activities cannot be ignored."

CQ quoted a senior FBI official as saying much of Israel's intelligence gathering in the United States has been overlooked. The official said only when "their activities become really egregious do they get prosecuted."

John Cole, an FBI counter-intelligence agent who retired in 2004, said he worked on 125 cases of alleged Israeli espionage from 1993 to 1995. Cole told CQ that this represented nearly half the investigations conducted in his so-called Global Unit, which until 2002 did not include China or Russia. In one case, he said, the Justice Department refused to prosecute a U.S. military civilian suspected of transferring secrets to an Israeli officer.

Dispute Over Hand-Washing Leads to Bloody Bar Brawl in Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas — A bloody brawl erupted outside a tavern after one customer thought another failed to wash his hands after using the bathroom, police said.

One man was hospitalized with stab wounds. Another was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to a police report, the fight broke out Thursday after Eric Jennings Kisiah, 27, became upset about a customer's apparent hygiene failure at the Tumbleweeds Sports Bar.

Witnesses told police Kisiah confronted the customer and two of his friends, calling them names, telling them they were dirty and threatening to "slash their throats."

Kisiah then hid near a shrub outside the bar and charged the group as they left, the police report said.

One of the men, 25-year-old Morgan Jackson, was stabbed four times, police said. He was listed in good condition after surgery.

The strange phenomenon we saw is that after Israel withdrew the Jewish population of 8000 from the Gaza Strip and withdrew Israeli armed forces from there, there was an escalation in hostilities against Israel, and even on the day of withdrawal rockets were fired into Israel. The Palis then elected a terrorist regime, Hamas, to advance the war against Israel.

That means that regardless of what they say (see the propaganda in #101), the reality is that Israeli concessions increase the hostility of the Palis. That is because the Palis are sensitive to what they perceive to be Israeli weakness. And any Israeli concession is perceived as a sign of Israeli weakness.

One would be wise to distinguish between the propaganda that is spouted, and the reality shown by deeds. The reality is that Israeli concessions to the Palis increases the level of Pali hostility and attempted violence. That's plain from the Gaza withdrawal.

111 akak  Fri, Nov 24, 2006 12:01:38pm

WND: What you are saying is interesting because a lot of academics in the United States and many of my colleagues in the media claim Palestinians become suicide bombers because they are poor and desperate and because of so-called Israeli occupation. Are you telling me these are not the reasons you want to blow yourself up amongst Israelis?

BOMBER: The will to scarify myself for Allah is the first and most major reason. It is true that the Zionists are occupying our lands and that it is our religious duty to fight them, including through suicide attacks. The goal is not the killing of the Jews, but that this is the way to reach Allah.

OT: Daniel Pipes reveals there are 751 no-go zones in France.

They go by the euphemistic term Zones Urbaines Sensibles, or Sensitive Urban Zones, with the even more antiseptic acronym ZUS, and there are 751 of them as of last count. They are convienently listed on one long webpage, complete with street demarcations and map delineations.

Those places in France that the French state does not control. They range from two zones in the medieval town of Carcassone to twelve in the heavily Muslim town of Marseilles, with hardly a town in France lacking in its ZUS. The ZUS came into existence in late 1996 and according to a 2004 estimate, nearly 5 million people live in them.

Comment: A more precise name for these zones would be Dar al-Islam, the place where Muslims rule. (November 14, 2006)

Thanks for posting that video. It shows just how it is that Israeli concessions lead to increased hostility from the Palis. It's something that needs to be understood thoroughly.

Notice that they also demonized the sacred scripture of the Jews. It is a religious war. If the Jews were, God forbid, to convert to Islam, the war against the Jews by political Islam would be over. The rest is just excuses to cover the fact that the Islamist war against the Jewish state is a religious war.

And their ambitions are for the entire land of the Jews, not just a part. That means that every concession, and every loss of land, simply is perceived as showing weakness, and confirms to them that they will ultimately prevail in getting everything.

When Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip, The New York Times celebrated editorially, essentially seeing in that the dawn of peace. But of course, it was just the dawn of a new and more deadly phase of the war against Israel's right to exist, and of the war against Israel's existence. The New York Times editorial board seems to be clueless concerning causality, and has it all reversed.

Thanks again for posting that video.

The maps in the link were made in 1996 and I doubt they somehow correspond to current no-go areas for the French police. And the ZUS is an official term for an area of econmic blight (ghetto) in France. I don't question that there are some no-go zones in French ghettos, but I doubt that those maps officially outline them.

Should we have a new policy of shooting all persons with cameras not known to be friendly? A camera these days is at least an enemy recon tool. Potentially a propaganda weapon.

Even though I'm a kindly gentle soul, that's been my thought for quite some time. There are too many terrorist journalists working for the terror organizations. Their claims to being journalists is trumped by their activities as terror propagandists and terror enablers.

Therefore, they are the same kind of combatants that the terrorists are. If they get killed, that's a good thing. All terrorists should be killed.
