where's Jimmah ?

2 Doug  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:06:15am

That's a tough one...all very deserving.

3 Murqtaad  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:06:18am

I had to go with the 9/11 loons. All of the others seem like pure evil, not idiots, to me.

4 mbruce  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:06:22am

OOoh,so hard,an embarressment of moronic riches!

5 Poitiers-Lepanto  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:06:57am

Thank you, Charles.

6 cry of defiance and not of fear  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:07:16am

Dang! I was hoping to be No 1, but at least I'm with the majority vote!

7 badanov  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:07:23am

Very impressive, Mr. Johnson. Your website renders the same on Konquerer on FreeBSD as IE on Windows XP.

8 Earth2moonbat  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:09:23am

No hrw?

OOoh,so hard,an embarressment of moronic riches!

My thought exactly. I'm going to have to ponder for a while.

10 The Pulchritudinous Patriot  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:10:24am

I went with the 911 conspiracy freaks...they've really worked hard for the nomination and, IMHO, the honor.

11 mickthemick  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:10:41am

mickthemick hearby endorses Kofi Annan as Idiotarian of the Year.

12 Earth2moonbat  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:11:00am

Ok, I voted for #7.

13 Ringo the Gringo  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:11:23am

9/11 Conspiracy Theorists truly define the term idiotarian, never-the-less, I voted for Keith Olbermann because the Kos Kids and the HuffPuffers think that he's the bravest man in America.

14 Elric66  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:12:34am

Damn, I wanted to vote for Olmert, he is the biggest idiot around. So had to vote for Kerry. Oh well.

15 Ringo the Gringo  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:12:37am

#1 iminj,

where's Jimmah ?

He's already won...Let's give someone else a chance.

16 loppyd  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:12:53am

After watching numerous clips of his rants yesterday I went with the Olberdink*...

17 Globular Cluster  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:13:41am

If "Mainstream Media" had been Reuters, I would have voted for them (fauxtography, etc.). MSM is too broad.

18 allah this  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:13:54am

In the absence of James Baker I have no choice but to vote Kofi.

Deserving as he may be, placing a vote for John Kerry in any capacity just seems, well, wrong.

19 scoreboard44  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:14:09am

13 Ringo the Gringo

Yeah, Yeah and that South Park episode was a hoot but anytime I get the chance to vote for Keith Olberman I do.

20 cheesehead  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:14:24am

Had to go with the 911 Theorists too. The others are idiots with agendas. The Theorists are just plain Looney-tune nut-cakes. They really believe their insane theories.
Eebiddy, eebiddy, eebiddy that's all folks!

21 Elric66  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:15:11am

In the absence of James Baker I have no choice but to vote Kofi.

Deserving as he may be, placing a vote for John Kerry in any capacity just seems, well, wrong.

Kofi isnt an idiot, he knows what he is doing, Kerry doesnt. But I agree, a Kerry vote does seem "wrong" :-)

13 Ringo the Gringo

I didn't realize that the people's (peepulz) here hated Olberman as much as I did.

Man can he spew the hate.

23 eff  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:15:45am

I voted for Kofi since it's probably (and hopefully) his last chance to win.

The MSM is an especially tempting candidate considering the Fauxtography scandal, but I'm sure they'll have another strong showing next year.

24 song_and_dance_man[deleted]  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:16:01am
25 niagarafalls  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:17:42am

Very difficult choice. All so deserving of scorn. I voted Murtha. I think he represents the meathead constituency.

But in this contest, everyone's a loser at least.

26 ec marm  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:18:43am

Hey kos kids, here's how you can vote a ton of times here at lgf. Go to your windows/system directory and select all the files. Then, this is important, hold down the SHIFT key WHILE you press the DELETE key. You can then vote again, over and over.

/lgf'ers don't even consider doing this!

27 bweep  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:19:07am

My nominees aren't on the list.

29 I_Invented_Al_Gore  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:19:25am

It's obvious to me that if Al wants to make the short list, he's going to have to try harder.

Just making a movie isn't enough.

30 thedopefishlives  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:19:50am

Too many idiots, so tough to decide.... However, I had to go MSM because it's the constant droning of spin that really grinds my gears. I think half the problems we have in this country would be solvable if the MSM would shut their collective yapper and let us Do The Right Thing (tm).

31 NTropy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:19:59am

A note to zulubaby:

Where I normally hold out for highest bidder (let's face it, all are worthy winners) I cast my vote early for your favorite, Coffee Anon.

32 obageegee  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:20:00am

I wanted to vote for Keith Olbermann, but our policy dictates that we don't do anything special for the mentialy handicapped.

33 jamil hussein  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:20:46am

I can't vote for myself, so mainstream media will have to do.

34 I_Invented_Al_Gore  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:20:48am

At this point, the MSM leads the voting.

35 ziggy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:21:42am

Difficult choice, but had to go with MSM.
Not enough people watch Olberman to make him significant.
No one takes Kerry seriously.
Murtha's a drunk.
Kofi is history (he was a close second).
Where was James Baker?

36 jill e  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:21:59am

I voted with the thought that Kofi will be gone and this might be the only time to provide him with this title that he so richly deserves.

37 NTropy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:22:41am

If I toss my cookies does that mean I can vote again?

38 Pickle  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:24:31am

I was tempted to go with the MSM, but then I thought that Kofi Annan is LONG overdue the honour, and this is his last chance. Come on, let's give him a proper retirement gift.

39 Kofi Annan  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:25:34am

Can you guess who I voted for?

40 fluffy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:25:40am

I voted for the 9/11 nutters. I can finally admit to having watched The Partridge Family without hanging my head.

41 Yank in the EU  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:26:05am

I gotta say, I like the pictorial depiction of the poll results. Really gives you a feeling for the competition.

I'm writing in Jimmie Carter. He's made a real strong late push with his book and complaining about how the Jooos are silencing him on every friggin talk show in the universe. I wish he would stick to building houses instead of licking the balls of every petty dictator in the world.

46 Ringo the Gringo  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:28:48am

Have you ever actually had a trophy or plaque made which you could send to the winner?

I voted for the msm. Their idiocy influenced the minds (if you can call them that) of Americans against the war, against Bush, against the military, against Homeland Security, against Christianity, against Israel, against anything Jewish, against Israel defending herself....but, FOR terrorism, for jihad, for islam, for losing the war...for globalism...

blech. The list is too long.

Mainstream Media seems to be picking up steam. Their lead is lengthening. ~40 votes at last check.

57 Kofi Annan  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:36:08am

It appears that the United States will squeak by, paying just enough to avoid losing its vote in the General Assembly… While the United States will avoid this fate for this year, on the larger question – its legal commitment and its moral obligation to the United Nations and the other 184 member states – the United States will have failed.

Kofi

58 ec marm  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:36:16am

Thought your way might be beyond the abilities of those challenged critters. I really don't think my #26 would work (prolly all sorts of warnings would fly), but it was fun to imagine some kossack trying it.

59 gymnast  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:36:38am

Kofi deserves a parting shot. He has earned it, he is ripe for it, and he will appreciate it. The others will still be around next year, Kofi won't.

The Idiotarian Award or Fiskie is a lifetime achievement award. Jimmah won it the inaugural year.

61 Cognito  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:37:14am

50 Rookie,

But then again, so might not Little Green Footballs.

Obviously people have some strong feelings here about the media, but I think voting for a faceless non-entity is as lame as Time's "You" for Person of the Year.

62 mardukhai  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:37:14am

Where is Jimmy the Rat?

63 Damnyanqui  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:37:39am

Okay, I'm voting for Kofi, whose unrepentant departure just shows the tremendous idiotarianism that defined his tenure. Even if he was a creature of the malign, stupid, institution that created him, he COULD have done some small bit of good in that cesspool instead of just making things worse.
BUT I'M VOTING UNDER PROTEST!
Jimmy Carter is the most deserving idiot by far.
Charles, if the pinkos at Time can make the same person "person of the year" more than once, why can't you?
Jimmy Carter. Absolutely.

Next year... Harry Reid? (cringe) Nancy Pelosi? (cringe)

64 Kofi Annan  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:38:39am

That's right gymnast!

Spread the idiotarian vote lizardoids. Jimmuh already won.

68 NTropy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:40:58am

Kofi has closed the gap to ~15, halving the MSM lead.

69 rastajenk  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:41:41am

When you look at the list of past winners, I just think "mainstream media" is a weak pick. For sure, it is staffed with deserving idiots; I don't care for the Time-like waffling or inability to choose just one. Remember, the winner achieves iconic status for now and forever. Vote wisely, my friends.

70 Cognito  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:41:43am

59 gymnast,

That's right -- no person has squandered, misappropriated, misled, and dissembled with quite the same vigor and skill as Kofi, in recent memory.

Even Clinton, I'd say. Clinton was a good liar, but we all knew what he was really up to. Kofi is so good that people honestly can't seem to get a fix on his bad behavior.

71 NTropy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:42:07am

I cannot vote for Mainstream Media because it is not a person and so there is no individual to accept responsibility.

I cannot vote fior Olbermann because he is a self-promoter and would relish the attention.

I vote for Kofi Annan because he has been an idyot on a global scale, and after his term expires this will be the last we will have to hear from him, (hopefully).

74 NTropy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:44:20am

76 gymnast  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:45:03am

#64, who, in your imperial feigned modesty, did you vote for? Surely not yourself? Perhaps you wrote in a pseudonym in your place.? A descriptive term perhaps. Maybe a descriptive verb followed by a noun with an adjective or two thrown in for good measure.

77 AnotherRightWingConspirator  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:45:23am

Chavez: too insane to be seriously considered.
Kerry: yesterday's news.
Olberman: a lightweight, basically your nerdy second cousin whom you avoid because there is no real reason to be around him.
Murtha: a real pig - can't bring myself to vote for him for anything.
MSM and Truthers: same problem as Time selecting everybody.

Annan: the obvious choice on all levels.

Congratulations Kofi.

78 NTropy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:45:27am

And now Coughing is UP by ~5. Woo hoooooo

79 Kofi Annan  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:45:46am

In a past BBC interview, Kofi was asked if Iraqis were worse off, and he replied:

I think they are ... in the sense of the average Iraqi's life.

If I were an average Iraqi obviously I would make the same comparison-They had a dictator who was brutal but they had their streets. They could go out, their kids could go to school and come back home without a mother or father worrying, 'Am I going to see my child again?'.

What a genius.

80 cicero05  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:49:04am

I voted for John Kerry before I voted against him.

81 NCJeff  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:49:10am

I had to go with the so-called truthers. Most on the list are either stupid or dangerous, but these nuts are both.

82 rabidsquirrel  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:49:30am

MSM and Kofi, running neck and neck.

For what it's worth, I voted MSM, though the departing Secretary General will always have a spot reserved in my own virtual "Enemies of the Free World" Hall of Fame.

83 new_tommy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:49:39am

Damn. No Olmert? I ordinarily wouldn't pick someone merely evil, but as someone mentioned above, it is Kofi's last chance...

84 ibn Abu  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:51:49am

I don't think Hugo Chavez should be listed as an idiotarian. He's not a "useful idiot" manipulated by the enemy. He IS the enemy.

In the end I had to go with Kofi. I mean, he's now finished a long and sordid career lining his pockets with UN funds and kowtowing to Islamofascisti around the world. It wouldn't be fair to deny him this "honor".

85 Peacekeeper  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:52:00am

Too bad the US State Department can't be nominated...maybe next year.

86 gymnast  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:54:59am

Hey, Kofi, you gonna' put the Fiskie up on the mantelpiece in that rent subsidized apartment you got in New York (you know, the one you been subletting to your brother for about 8 years) Or, are you gonna pack it up and take your wife, Brunhilda, and head for Stockholm and some home cooked lute fish.

87 TMF  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:55:30am

MSM pan down

Although I agree w/ Ed and others who assert that those who are nefarious (like the MSM) and know precisely what they are doing in shrewdly and deceptively pursuing their agendas cannot be viewed as "idiots" per se,

It is clear to me that the anti Bush hatred of the MSM has clouded their reason to the point of complete suicidal mania.

They will stop at nothing, NOTHING, to pursue their hate-Bush hate-Republicans hate-religious folk agenda, with no concern whatsoever for the consequences (i.e., ultimate demise of western civilization, including the very institution of a "free press" they are a part of!).

This makes them the IDIOT of the year, in my estimation.

88 jpwhitmore  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:56:40am

vote Olberman

89 Maui Girl  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:56:56am

All choices equally idiots, just some more than others. It was a tough choice.

90 Golem Akbar  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:57:16am

I voted Olberman, but they're all deserving. And there are others who didn't make the list also equally deserving. Where's Ramsay Clark? George Soros? Steven Bing? Steven Spielberg? Babs Streisand? Alec Baldwin? Oh you know, the list goes on.

But most sportswriters are pretty smart, funny, and shoot straight. Olberman is an example of a failed sportswriter who is now a successful idiotarian. He may not make the final cut, but he is sure deserving of honorable mention.

91 aqvik  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 10:58:33am

MSM will have a way more long-lasting impact for disinformation than Kofi.

92 Cognito  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:02:13am

87 TMF,

The "media" as a whole just doesn't work, man. For three reasons:

1) It's a nameless, faceless organization, like I mentioned in a post up the thread. So it's lame. Like Time's "You" for Person of the Year.

2) Great sites like Little Green Footballs depend on the media -- even the often-smelly AP and Reuters. They gather the news that we comment on here, and I'm not talking about just the media screw ups. I'm talking about many, many threads.

3) There are actually some really good people working in the mainstream media. Many of them heroes here.

So for me the choice is clear: Kofi all the way!

93 alexwest  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:02:34am

hmph.

Although honestly deserving a good number votes, I think Kofi is benefitting from his ballot position.

hmph.

94 alexwest  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:03:24am

And quite possibly from the fact that he is an actual person...

hmph.

95 new_tommy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:04:08am

Come on, Kofi! As they say in the commercial, "you can do it!"

96 Retread  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:05:27am

I take Idiotarian to imply the ability to do damage so the MSM got my vote. Although Kerry ran a close second, he doesn't have the power the MSM does. And I couldn't vote for him for anything, ever.

97 bp sf  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:08:13am

Now accepting the award for the MSM, ladies and gentlelizards, please put your hands together and make some noise for The Captain...Captain Jamil Hussein!

98 Ed Mahmoud abu al Qahool Martyr Brigades  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:08:25am

Now, the 9-11 truther types, most definitely fit that bill.

99 Ed Mahmoud abu al Qahool Martyr Brigades  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:09:43am

I see Annan is leading. How is he an idiotarian? He and his family have become very rich of the corruption at the UN, especially the Iraq oil for palaces deal. He chose to let people die. He ins't an idiot, he is evil.

100 The Shadow Do  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:11:13am

I could have chosen from eeny meeny miny mo and picked a deserving candidate.

A virtual wet dream of scum bags, lowlifes, cowards, and crooks. So I picked who I hated the worst: Keith "ESPN Flunkie" Olbermann.

The MSM voting, though well deserved, reeks too much of the Time nomination for person of the year.

Koffee isn't an idiot just a crook. Hell he pulled the wool over eyes at the UN.
The MSM Now they are idiots!

106 Nordish12  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:14:42am

Mainstream Media, the BBC being the chief culprit. These days, they're worse than Guardian even. In the UK, anyway.

107 Live_Free_Or_Die~!  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:15:52am

Grrr read before you vote, only 1 vote. As soon as I saw the 9/11 Idjits on the list and since I just came from reading some of their posts on the DU 9/11 forum, it was like I had no control over my hand and mouse and instantly voted for them.

But upon a 2nd reading of the list, while all the candidates are worthy, nothing strikes me as more deserving then thousands of idjits, spending millions of man hours (plus of course building scientific rabbit wire cage models to prove the facts) and still not having 1 fact that would be accepted in a court of law 5+ years later. They have broken laws of physics, invented space beam weapons, twisted and manipulated eyewitness quotes, film and photos, ignored common sense, back stabbed each other and basically closed their minds to any other explanation then the one they believe and "feel" must have happened.

So in 5+ years of "research" they are just where they started, it was all a Bush/Haliburton/Neo-Con/Jewish plot to overthrow the US Government and establish a dictatorship to control the worlds Oil and send all the "Truth to Power" speakers to concentration camps.

#105 Just_a_Grunt

No. He is an idiot too.

The MSM is too broad a spectrum of bad actors to give an award to. If it were just the AP or Reuters or the New York Times, I might agree but the idea of basically putting the MSM out of the running in all future awards, or having to potentially award a guilty party like the AP a de facto second award in some later year, seems like a crummy idea.

For Kofi, it is now or never.

109 Cognito  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:18:42am

"You," the Person of the Year, should be able to focus your disgruntledness on an actual person.

Go, Kofi, go!

110 Ariel  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:19:57am

I voted for Murtha. He's definitely a useful idiot as demonstrated by Okinawa being close enough to retreat to.

Kofi - Evil, not a useful idiot
Chavez - Evil
Kerry - I don't think people take him seriously enough to really consider him worthy.
Mainstream Media - While there are certainly problematic elements, it's like voting for "You" - since, among others, the WSJ, NY Sun, and IBD are very good sources.
Keith Olbermann - don't even know who he is.
9/11 Conspiracy Theorists - Too lame, no one really takes them seriously

111 That's Headley!  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 11:21:29am

9/11 Conspiracy Theorists truly define the term idiotarian, never-the-less, I voted for Keith Olbermann because the Kos Kids and the HuffPuffers think that he's the bravest man in America.

I voted for Olby too. He sooo much wants to be the next Edward R. Cronkite, it isn't even funny. It makes me happy that O'Reilly crushes him in the ratings every single night, and Keith can't deal with it.

You are obviously being a shameless provacateur

Everyone knows that the term "MSM" is not an amorphous term for all media in general

It refers to the big alphabet soup syndicates: CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, etc., as well as the NY Times, WaPost and others

These are not faceless institutions, but organizations consisting of real people, with real and obvious political agendas.

They are propagandists, distorters of the truth (see e.g., "FORD OPPOSED IRAQ WAR" headlines today: a blatant distortion and a lie) and political hacks.

They deserve to be on that list. If you want, we can just pick "Brian Williams" as their symbolic leader. Does that make you happy?

Our heroes here are assuredly NOT affiliated with the "MSM" but are media mavericks- folks like Robert Spencer, Mark STeyn, Ann Coulter, Michael Yon, Bill Roggio, et al.

They are the ANTI msm

Jimmy Riddle, Cockney slang.

122 TMF,

A "shameless provocateur." I like that. It's cagey, with a hint of cloak-and-dagger. It's right up there with "ribald raconteur." I think I'll embrace it.

As for the argument that "Our heroes here are assuredly NOT affiliated with the 'MSM' but are media mavericks" -- well, that's just wrong. Many of those people are most certainly associated with the mainstream media, because it's the mainstream media that puts food on their tables.

They're not anti-media. They're anti-nonsense. It's the difference between tossing out bad-tasting punch and smashing the punchbowl itself.

Lastly: Remember, this is all in fun.

Best regards,
Shameless Provocateur

Yes, yes, they are all idiots and all deserving.

But this is that special time of year when we look deep into our hearts and choose. Choose that one special idiot who, this year, was just a little bit more so than the rest. It's a honor, a priviledge, and a duty.

Choose well, young grasshoppers.

Vote for the coveted Robert Fisk Award for Idiotarian of the Year 2006. You are allowed one vote, and the polls close at midnight on December 31, 2006.
* Kofi Annan
* Hugo Chavez
* John F. Kerry
* Mainstream Media
* John Murtha
* Keith Olbermann
* 9/11 Conspiracy Theorists

I prefer item D - all of the above

140 smoot  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 12:17:20pm

141 Kim Hartveld  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 12:17:42pm

146 Silhouette  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 12:29:26pm

Perhaps some semantics would be helpful in aiding some persons to decide.

Idiotarian is not the same as idiot, thus the need for two words.

The first definition I read of idiotarian was someone who finds a way to blame others besides the terrorists for the 911 attacks, especially blaming the US, directly or indirectly. But the term has expanded. Finding a good definition that is broad enough to cover all versions of idiotarians yet not so broad as to be meaningless, is difficult. Here is a decent working one

The species of delusion within the moral community of mankind that gives aid and comfort to terrorists and tyrants operating outside it.

Note that idiotarians are not the terrorists or tyrants themselves, but those who support them, typically with moral arguments.

I think that leaves Hugo out. Kofi is harder. A tyrant or a protector of tyrants? A terrorist or a protector of terrorists?

147 Dianna  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 12:39:11pm

After much debate, and reading everyone's comments, I chose the 9/11 Conspiracists.

They best fit the definition, I think; excusing and supporting those who would destroy us. After reading their ravings, I've decided they deserve the honor.

But the arguments advanced for other candidates were informative and enlightening. Thanks.

148 Jape  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 12:49:37pm

Interesting Idiotarian rating scale by poster PD Shaw on WindsofChange

5 = Dangerous (e.g., treason, admiring references to fragging)
4 = Insane (e.g., dangerous to self; Oliver Stone)
3 = Hateful (e.g., dangerous to discourse; Bush is Hitler crowd)
2 = Naive (e.g., unrealistic world view making discourse difficult; peace movement)
1 = Significant Policy Differences (policy exremism; WOT as solely an LE matter)
150 daughter of patriots  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 12:51:06pm

This was tough.

Serpentine Kofi speaks with forked tongue, surely he's more evil than idiotic.

Olberman, when I've seen him on TV, makes my blood boil.

But Kerry is local & I've had enough of this "condescending blueblood with no sense of his own ridiculousness, Senator Nuancy Boy is secure in little else except his belief in his indispensability." (thanks to Mark Steyn for that perfect description of this windbag).

This week's revealing photo of him in Iraq, alone, while our troops dined elsewhere, confirmed, for me, his crowning idiot ranking.

153 Wicksy  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 1:04:13pm

My immediate reaction was to VOTE KOFI!

Then I saw Mainstream Media and I thought "Hmmm...".

But after careful deliberation I decided that the MSM does have at least some brain cells in the form of Bill O'Reilly, Mark Stein, Daniel Pipes et al.

So I went with my first gut reaction (usually the best way anyway).

I hereby declare that I exercised my Western democratic right and proudly voted for that pathetic, bumbling, crooked, twisted and finally-on-his-way-out pea-brained idiot, Kofi Annan.

154 tedzilla99  Thu, Dec 28, 2006 1:06:28pm

I was hoping for an 'all the above' option...too many idiots, morons, jackasses, and evil loons on that list.

I voted MSM because without their complicity, many of the other idiots would not have a voice nor a nomination. They are completely responsible for so many of the deaths overseas, and have been since Vietnam. Absolutely shameful, especially as they hold themselves up as the arbiters of truth and the 'right to know'. I spit in their general direction.

I voted for 9/11 Conspiracy Theorists because they have absolutely nothing to gain by their actions. They don't get votes or sell books or increase their ratings or gain power. All they get is an early death by war or terror, or the loss of their constitutional rights if their beliefs prevail. They are 100 percent noxious and toxic without any redeeming value to themselves or to anyone else who except their mortal enemies. If that isn't an idiot, then what is?

They are all idiots, who think we are idiots, hmmmmm.

no person has squandered, misappropriated, misled, and dissembled with quite the same vigor and skill as Kofi, in recent memory. Even Clinton, I'd say. Clinton was a good liar, but we all knew what he was really up to.

Of course, Clinton had the handicap of government institutions that hindered his attempts.

Really bad songs and a overly-simplistic sense of the state of current affairs, coupled with the cynical cashing-in on rabid nationalism and propoganda:

I'm just a middle-aged, middle-eastern camel herdin' man
I got a little, 2 bedroom cave here in North Afghanistan
Things used to be real nice and they got out of hand when they moved in
They call themselves the Taliban
(ooooo yeah the taliban) (taliban baby)

Now I ain't seen my wife's face since they came here
They make her wear a scarf over her head that covers her from ear to ear
She loves the desert and the hot white sand
But man she's just like me, nah she can't stand
The Taliban (ooo taliban baby)

You know someday soon we're both gonna saddle up and it'll be
Ride Camel Ride
My old lady she'll be here with me, smilin right by my side
We should do just fine out around Palestine or maybe Turkmenistan
We'll bid a fair adieu and flip the finger to the Taliban
(oh yeah the taliban) (baby)

I know where you comin from brother!
This is a patriotic love song
So y'all feel free to salute if you want,
You got my permission.

Now they attacked New York City cause they thought they could win
Said they would, stand and fight until the very bloody end
Mr Bush got on the phone with Iraq and Iran and said "Now, you
sons-of-bitches you better not be doin any business with the taliban"
(Taliban baby)

So we prayed to Allah with all of our might
Until those big U.S. jets came flyin one night
They dropped little bombs all over their holy land
And man you should have seen em run like rabbits, they ran
(the taliban)

You know someday soon we're both gonna saddle up and it'll be
Ride Camel Ride
My old lady she'll be here with me, smilin right by my side
We should do real fine out around Palestine or maybe Turkmenistan
We'll bid a fair adieu and flip a couple fingers to the Taliban
(oh yeah, taliban)
we'll bid a fair adieu and flip a big boner to The Taliban (baby)"

I mean, come on. You don't have to turn everything you read on a men's room wall into a "song."

Well you know some people hate anything smacking of patriotism. Couple that patriotism with a sense of humor and of course you can see how some people would hate that.

Lesser idiotarian Sydnor Thompson reporting for duty:

NASCAR driver is rebuked for Bush sticker

It’s no secret that NASCAR drivers skew Republican, which is fine with the Federal Election Commission, just so long as they don’t display their preferences where anyone can see them.

In a decision announced Tuesday, the FEC sent an “admonishment letter” to Kirk Shelmerdine Racing. Kirk Shelmerdine, a former pit boss for the late Dale Earnhardt, has been an unsuccessful, underfunded and undersponsored driver. He has never finished higher than 26th.

So back in 2004, in a move perhaps designed to draw some attention to his car, he placed a “Bush-Cheney ’04” decal on his rear quarter panel, which was otherwise unencumbered by advertising. Democratic activist Sydnor Thompson complained to the FEC, and the agency found that Shelmerdine “may have made an unreported independent expenditure or a prohibited corporate expenditure.”

Former commissioner Bradley Smith dissented in one of the case’s early votes and blogged about the result this week. He has written that in reference to the FEC’s $250 expenditure limit, “evidence is strong that the market value of Shelmerdine’s rear quarter panel was approximately $0, give or take $249.”

Let's see: 1) Obsessing over Bill O'Reilly while his ratings are in the tank and even worse than Donahue's were. 2)Claiming that Habeus Corpus was thrown out of the window, while ignoring the 5th Amendment regarding exceptions to it. 3)His idiotic rantings over "worst person" as in Rush Limbaugh. Gee, why isn't Osama bin Ladin the "worst person"? Or maybe the Pres. of Iran?

Indeed why doesn't he ever comment on the scum, who were are being antagonistic towards if not outright fighting? It's always Bush, or Limbaugh or O'Reilly. The only time guys like Obermann ever comment on OBL is "Why didn't we get him?"

BTW, I voted for Hugo Chavez, but that's 'cause he keeps making a fool out of himself like his wacko rantings against Pres. Bush(not just the "el diablo" speech at the UN, but other rantings, that I found at youtube.com.), embracing Castro, getting the Peruvians, Mexicans and others pissed off at him for trying to rig their elections and other self-destructive activities.

This was for idiots. I don't regard the Pres of Iran as an idiot, but as a nutjob. The only other option that I would have chosen were the 9/11 conspiracy theorists. WHo is more dumb: the 9/11 conspiracy theorists, or the morons, who think that NASA faked the moon landings? Now there is a real poll!

Carter wins fifth hokum!

The Academy of World Political Humor Arts and Letters (AWPHAL) today awarded comedian Jimmy (James Earl) Carter the 2006 Hokum as the year's finest political comedian. Carter's record shattering fifth Hokum came against stiff competition from a highly regarded group of nominees.

In a statement accompanying the announcement of the award, Edith Steingehirn, President of the Academy, said, "what Jimmy Carter has accomplished with his book Palestine, Peace not Apartheid, was both comically brilliant and extraordinarily difficult. It has been an axiom of the Academy that present-day Islamic-Jihadist culture is quite beyond parody. After all, a society that teaches its children to kill with explosives strapped to their little bodies, which executes women because they have been raped and which promises young men a brothel in heaven if they commit suicide in a certain way has gone far past the most sublime exaggeration. Attempting to caricature such a culture has generally been thought to be both pointless and impossible."

Fellow comedian and dual-Hokum winner Bill Clinton explained, "Carter was taking a big risk by entering the Middle-East Inanity comedy genre. This field has been dominated by second rate-comedians such as Yassar Arafat, the 'Assad Family Comedy Act', the 'Saudi Royal Family Variety Revue' and members of the Sayyid Qutb vaudeville school. Not well known in the United States, these comedians have long been famous for using the same punch line for every joke, 'The Jews did it.' Jimmy Carter has adapted that cut-rate comic trope to his own side-splitting style."

Steingehirn continued: "Carter's particular comic insight in Palestine, Peace not Apartheid, was to deliberately reverse the moral standing of the characters. Israel, the only functioning, free democracy in the region becomes, in Carter's hilarious upside-down worldview, the pariah state. The societies that practice genuine sexual, religious and ethnic apartheid - not to mention corruption and terrorism on an unimaginable scale - are characterized by Carter as victims! This is comic genius of a very high order."

Carter's comic career is a story of almost continuous success since he burst on the political scene in the mid-1970s playing a clownish U.S. President while actually holding the office. These sustained performances earned him four consecutive Hokum awards. This unprecedented record has stood the test of time. No other individual comic has been awarded more than two Hokums during an entire career (though an organization, the United Nations, through its various committees and "peacekeeping" efforts has won seventeen Hokums). The only two-time individual winners include Richard Nixon, Herbert Hoover, Joe McCarthy, Neville Chamberlain, Bill Clinton, Kofi Annan and Jacques Chirac.

More recently, Carter has enjoyed success in his long-running, one-man variety show "Jimmy Carter, a Farce to be Reckoned With," in which he plays a completely flummoxed, self-aggrandizing, tyrant-supporting busy-body whose foundation takes money from - and acts as a shill for - a bevy of Middle Eastern and Latin American dictators.

Last year's winner and this year's first runner-up, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, expressed both gratitude to Carter for helping his career and dismay at his second place finish in the Academy vote. "I acknowledge Jimmy Carter's indispensable role in the creation of the long-running Mad Mullah's Murder, Mayhem and Misogyny Madcap (which won a Hokum in 1989 with its fatwa against Salman Rushdie) which gave me my start.[...]

This took some thought. I believe Chavez and Annan are evil and not necessarily idiots. The 9/11 conspiracy nuts, while very worthy, aren't making that much of a dent, IMHO. However, the MSM is making a real dent in spreading propaganda helpful to the enemy. This became clear to me after speaking to friends and relatives over the holidays. They believe we are losing in Iraq; our government never tells us the truth about what's going on; Muslims are not a threat - except for just a crazy few, they all just want to get along with us. Islam really is a religion of peace. I'm the one who is constantly saying the sky is falling. And so it goes. Yup, MSM gets my vote.

228 Cognito  Fri, Dec 29, 2006 6:53:55am

Charles,

A friendly challenge from a fan of your work.

I enjoy Little Green Footballs. But seeing the mainstream media -- the whole of it -- nominated here as idiots all round strikes me as somewhat disingenuous.

You've said the "media are the enemy," and people here have said even worse.

So I have a thought. Don't use the enemy's words. I'm not talking about media criticism, but rather stories they write about, say, the Palestinians, or Iran, or American politics, and so forth. In 2007, if you don't use any stories originated by the 'mainstream' traditional media -- excluding media criticism iself -- I'll send you a hundred bucks.

Or, alternatively, you name the price. How much is the mainstream media's work worth to you? Five hundred bucks? A thousand?

Again: I'm a big fan. I'm here every day, reading. But on this one point I think you could be a little more straightforward.

229 wrenchwench  Fri, Dec 29, 2006 12:04:44pm

Cognito, your assertion, (made elsewhere, but leading to the above post, if I'm not mistaken) that LGF is dependent on the MSM, is like saying penicillin is dependent on syphilis.

230 Cognito  Fri, Dec 29, 2006 12:22:23pm

I'm all for the penicillin (LGF media criticism) defeating the syphilis (media bias). I specifically excluded that.

#93 Cognito 12/29/2006 03:20PM PST

#63 Cognito 12/29/2006 02:51PM PST

E2M and taxfreekiller,

If you think I'm a troll, that's fine. But I'm only trying to make an honest point: That it's disingenuous for us to profit so much from an industry, and then smear the whole industry as the "enemy."

#47 Cognito 12/29/2006 02:43PM PST
[snip] My quibble is with the notion of calling the people who contribute so much to LGF -- and the media does -- the "enemy" and so forth.

#20 Cognito 12/29/2006 02:25PM PST

Charles,

I have to note that this is, itself, an AP report. And you've used two from Reuters, just today.

So, in the spirit of sportsmanship, I'll repost my friendly challenge.

Let me try another analogy: The MSM is a chemical plant. They make some very fine and necessary products. They also spew tons of toxic chemicals in the air. Since the toxins are killing people, the plant is called "The Enemy" by Charles and lizards. You are a chemist. You hate that people think you work for "The Enemy." You think it's fine to criticize the toxic spew, but if the plant itself is criticized, the critics have gone too far, especially because we continue to use the fine products of the plant.

In the meantime, Charles is building another chemical plant. He hopes to put out some fine and necessary products, without the toxic spew. You think the only fair way to do that is by ceasing all use of the fine products of your plant immediately.

The owners of your plant have rules for how its products are used. Charles follows these rules. The owners of the plant you work at don't seem to mind being called "The Enemy."

Are you just the most sensitive chemist at the plant? What am I missing?

232 Cognito  Fri, Dec 29, 2006 3:28:26pm

231 Wrenchwench,

That's an excellent analogy. I'd say it breaks down at some point, because Charles -- at least publicly -- isn't actually interested in building a news-gathering organization. The plant, that is.

My point is that if we're going to so happily use the products from the nasty news plant, then we shouldn't so happily call for its destruction.

233 wrenchwench  Fri, Dec 29, 2006 3:37:08pm
