Hatred in a Holy City

Sun, Dec 31, 2006 at 12:22:02 pm PST

They’re going to be doing this until Tuesday, in the world’s center of Islam; the violent ritual that often results in stampedes killing thousands: Muslim haj pilgrims perform devil-stoning ritual.

MENA, Saudi Arabia, Dec 31 (Reuters) - More than 2.5 million Muslim haj pilgrims performed devil-stoning rites on Sunday, amid tight security to prevent overcrowding and protests following the execution of Saddam Hussein.

The 5-day haj, marred by deadly stampedes in recent years, was overshadowed by the hanging on Saturday of the former Iraqi leader, a hero to some Sunni Arabs because of his anti-U.S. stance, but hated by many Shi’ites.

“The number one Satan is America,” said Iraqi pilgrim Suleiman Awadallah, who described himself as “a resistance fighter”, after performing the stoning ritual.

“The prayers of all Muslims when they cast their stones at the devil must be directed at (U.S. President George) Bush and his devilish allies in America and the Arab world.”

Ahmed al-Dosary from Kuwait agreed. “I prayed for myself, my family and for the end of the main evil, the United States.”

Many, many Muslims are inbred, malnourished, and highly conformist. Could that be some part of the problem, in addition to the garbage of what they are taught? Funny how the MSM self-selects three people to represent a whole group of folks, and these three people just so happen to fit their agenda, isn't it? Coincidence upon coincidence belie some other force than random chance.

29 frankp_63  Sun, Dec 31, 2006 10:36:13am

30 inrussetshadows  Sun, Dec 31, 2006 10:38:35am

Oh one more thing, if the US is the number one devil, then does that mean that 1) the Pali-Israel conflict is not the biggest problem or the fundamental problem in the region? 2) That Israel and the U.S. switch places every so often because no single country can be the "number one devil" for more than six months at a time, or something? Someone needs to send out the official talking points so that we can keep up.

32 ibmkeyboard  Sun, Dec 31, 2006 10:39:45am

Speaking of getting squashed.

Up to 3,200 Arab families are losing their homes to government bulldozers. Two sisters who were evidently Muslim were murdered for their teachings.Three children were murdered in Rachel Corrie’s “Palestine” on Monday, December 11.

If Corrie’s friends in the International Solidarity Movement are looking for a cause, the three incidents listed above amount to a small sample of available causes. The two main problems with this scenario for the ISM is that Jews are not the bad guys in any of these episodes and, as soon as her friends make their presence known, they will likely be slaughtered by the new bad guys. In Israel, the worst they can expect is to be deported, which could save them from getting themselves killed.

This, after the United States rescued Kuwait from Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait.

The world is not ruled by gratitude. Forget about gratitude, and don't expect it. The Islamist revival means hatred of the infidel. That is the main thing. And the US is the main power among infidel nations, which makes it the most hated power, even when it saves your country.

41 AMER1CAN  Sun, Dec 31, 2006 10:46:10am

I find this sentence a bit revealing. It's not a quote but says it's a duty for all able bodied muslims.

But Saudi Arabia attacked Iraq for despoiling the spirit of the haj, one of the world's biggest displays of mass religious devotion which is a duty for able-bodied Muslims with the means.

Kaaba

Entrance to the inside of the Kaaba is gained through a door set 7 feet above the ground on the north-eastern wall of the Kaaba, which acts as the façade.[1] It is accessed by a wooden staircase on wheels, usually stored between the arch-shaped gate of Banu Shaybah and the Zamzam. Inside the Kaaba, there is a marble floor. The interior walls are clad with marble half-way to the roof; tablets with Qur'anic inscriptions are inset in the marble. The top part of the walls is covered with a green cloth decorated with gold embroidered Qur'anic verses. The building is believed to be otherwise empty. Caretakers perfume the marble cladding with scented oil, the same oil used to anoint the Black Stone outside.

In January, 362 pilgrims were crushed to death in the worst haj tragedy in 16 years as crowds piled on to the bridge, where pilgrims must throw stones at three large walls marking the spot of Satan's temptation of biblical patriarch Abraham.

Two interesting points:

One, is that this annual ritual has happened TWICE this year: once in early January, and once more today (as mentioned in the article). This can happen because the pre-medieval Isalmic calendar only has 360 days per year, so once every century or two, there can be two different Devil-stoning rituals within one Gregorian calendar year. Indicative of how BACKWARD the Islamic culture is. Ancient peoples from Ireland to Mexico to China and yes, pre-Arab Mesopotamia had all figured out many millennia ago pretty much exactly the ACTUAL number of days in a year. ONLY the Islamic calendar is still out-of-whack.

Secondly, the AP grants as real the Muslim fantasy that the story of Abrham happened in Arabia. Pure religious revisionism.

The story I've heard is that in the days when Mohammad lived, Mecca was a pilgrimage site for several (other) pagan religions. Mohammad made a deal with the priests of these religions that they could keep the concession stands and entry fees if they all converted it all over to Islam. In exchange Mohammad put in the Koran that every Muslim must journey to Mecca at least once in his life. When they are at Mecca they get to (have to) go on all the rides. The Cube walk, Stone the Devil, etc. And the local merchants collect the money for motel rooms and corndogs, cotton candy, ZamZam sodas, etc. Or something like that.

Now if a quarter-mile wide asteroid landed on Mecca, it would all be the fault of those evil Joooos.

First off, Happy New Year to all! May the coming one be healthy and prosperous for you, and especially for you, Charles.

I’m always amused when I hear that “some radicals have hijacked Islam”. I would suggest that Islam has the potential of hijacking the souls and spirits of those who are inclined toward evil. For those who prefer a more decent life here on earth, there are other spiritual messages out there for them should they find the liberty to pursue them without fearing death, spiritual or otherwise, from Islam. Islam is all encompassing. That is exactly how Mohammed wanted it when he elevated Allah from just one of many deities in the already existing Kabba to “top dog”. The pillars of Islam were around long before Mohammed; he just capitalized upon them, turned them into a new religion, and soaked up the profits from a lucrative marketing/sales venture.

I listened to Nihad Awad, Executive Director of C.A.I.R. on C-Span’s Washington Journal yesterday respond to a caller who quoted several verses from the Koran. His defense was that the caller took verses “out of context” and she should get a copy of the Koran from his organization. Well, ladies and gentlemen, there is no context in the Koran. Without the Sunnah, Hadith, biographies of Mohammed’s life, and the tenets of Sharia Law, the Koran is 20% incomprehensible, according to scholars. There is no continuum in the Koran. It is arranged by topic, with contradictory verses, that only reflect the mindset of Mohammed’s alter-ego, Allah, at a given point in time during Mohammed’s “career”.

If anything was hijacked, it was the pagan beliefs of the Arabian religions and select Judeo-Christian prophets. Islam hijacked those prophets, but not their messages. Why else would Moses and Jesus be “revered” by Islam, but none of their teachings appear in Islamic texts? Has anyone seen the Ten Commandments written down in the Koran?

The pilgrims to the Hajj may throw all the earthly stones they want at piles of rock representing Satan. Until they learn that those stones should be spiritually thrown at their own evil ways, the performance may as well be meaningless. It just seems to me that Islam focuses on everything earthly and little spiritual, except in rituals and rules that lull their devout into believing that carnal gain and pleasure matter.

So, thanks for indulging Grandma on this foggy South Carolina New Year’s Eve. I will take my unwanted case of the flu to bed early tonight, and just may miss the ball coming down in Manhattan. But I will pour a small glass of an excellent Riesling and have a drink for all those I love who are still living, and a toast for those who are dead, but mattered a lot. I’ll also say, “Here’s to the Lizardoids”.

I'm guessing a catastrophic structural failure will be the story this year moreso than a stampede. Remember the two most famous Muslim civil engineers are Osama bin laden and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, so I'm not so impressed with the track record from Muslim engineering schools. Then again they've had a problem in Mecca with massive fires in the tent cities as well. But who knows, with all those people from shithole countries around the globe crammed into one place, maybe the killer this year will be disease. Who can say.

Anyways its not just stampedes that have killed scores of stoners at Mecca. Heck, they've had riots in the porta-pottie lines. Theres no telling when the hammer will drop.

I find it ironic that a kuwaiti would call the USA "satan" when it was the "satan" who freed this little worm from Saddam's conquest. As far as I am concerned Islan is little more than a death cult.

I find it also interesting that they call the Holy trinity a "polytheology". Obviously, the very concept of the Father, who created heaven and earth and who so loved the world that he gave us his only son to redeem us for our sins and that the love between the father and the son is so strong that it manifests itself in the form of the Holy spirit who is the messenger, if you will, of God's message and love is well beyond such limited intellegence and intellect.

I know what you're thinking -- and part of me agrees with you -- but there are those troubling exceptions, like a certain Iraqi Kurd, an outspoken supporter of Israel. (I know his politically active daughter, who prays daily for Israel, quoting from the Koran, of all things.)

This guy is on haj right now, and possibly is in that photograph. He actually believes in this religion.

Frankly, I don't understand how the sort of man who married an atheist because he loves her, raised his daughters to "marry a nice man, not a rich one" could believe that he is following the teachings of Mohammed, but he does.

And that makes me really, really sad.

Some random thoughts for the Moslems from their own Quran:

For all the Muslims that came to Mecca with an agenda against America or the Iraqi government:

"Only those who came to God with a pure heart (will be saved)." 26:89

And for those that worship the "Black Rock";

"Do you then worship beside God what possesses no power to benefit you or harm you?"21:66

"O you who believe, intoxicants, and gambling, and stone idols, and the games of chance are abominations of the devil; you shall avoid them, that you may succeed." 5:90

For the Moslems that quote various Hadiths justfying thier actions there is always:

Mohammed said,

"Do not write down anything of me except the Quran. Whoever writes other than that should delete it" (Ahmed, Vol. 1, page 171.....also Sahih Moslim )
114 Who Watches the Watchmen?  Sun, Dec 31, 2006 12:43:38pm
Muslims say that the Stone was found by Abraham (Ibrahim) and his son Ishmael (Ismail) when they were searching for stones with which to build the Kaaba.

This would be the same Abraham who, according to the midrash, smashed the idols in his father's shop and asked why, if they were gods, they couldn't repair themselves.

What a bunch of co-opted lies and derivative shite Islam is.

134 Richard Plantagenet  Sun, Dec 31, 2006 1:14:50pm

Richard Burton's own writings are "Victorian" and a bit hard to wade through. However, there are two good biographies that include his description of Mecca and the sacred black rock. I recommend the one published by Penguin. Burton described climbing up a small ladder to enter the holies of holies, where a black rock smaller then a bread box sits on the floor.

The meteor must have impressed some wandering band of Arabs in the distant past, and had already become part of a shrine in Mecca prior to Muhammad conquering the city in the 7th century. Muhammad stole the black rock and made it the literal center of Islam. Each day hundreds of millions of Muslims bow to the black rock in Mecca, while the Haj involves travel to Mecca to personally worship the black rock. The culmination of the Haz involves pilgrams circumambulating the holy of holies and it's black rock.

Americans are often puzzled by this: Why is there so much anti-American sentiment in Kuwait (polls have shown this)? Why aren't they thankful we liberated their country from Saddam?

The answer is that in the Islamic philosophy, the fact that some infidels (Americans) may have done them some good (like liberating their country) is NOT a favor we did them, but is THEIR RIGHTFUL DUE as part of the TRIBUTE that infidels are supposed to pay them to avoid being either converted or killed.

That is, America's liberation of Kuwait is viewed by the more radical Kuwaitis as simply our jizya (tribute), which they are owed.

Kinda OT

it gets curiousier and curiousier:

London Times: Saudi Arabia Bigger Threat than Iran The Times of London opinion piece is headlined: "You're attacking the wrong nation, Mr. Blair."

In it, commentator Anatole Kaletsky argues that British Prime Minister Tony Blair's bellicose words about Iran in a recent speech are misguided — and that the real terrorist threat originates in Saudi Arabia, an "ally" of the West.

In his December 20 speech in Dubai, Blair called Iran the greatest "strategic threat" in the Middle East and declared that it seeks "to pin us back in Lebanon, in Iraq and in Palestine. Our response should be to expose what they are doing, build the alliances to prevent it and pin them back across the whole of the region."

But Kaletsky points to "the country that really is the financial and spiritual homeland of al-Qaida, the 9/11 terrorists and the majority of foreign insurgents fighting in Iraq. This country is, of course, Saudi Arabia . . .

"The Saudis' ambivalence in the war against jihadi radicalism is hardly surprising, since extremist interpretations of Islam remain far more dominant in Saudi society than they have ever been in Iran or any Middle Eastern country other than Afghanistan under the Taliban.

"Moreover, the radicalization of previously quiescent Muslim populations from Indonesia and Turkey to Britain, Spain and France continues to be directly funded by the Saudi money pouring into Sunni mosques and madrassas inspired by the extremist Wahhabi sect.

"If, as Mr. Blair suggests, the 21st century will be marked by an ideological struggle between Western civilization and Islamic extremism, the main battles will have to be fought with Saudi Arabia, not Iran."

I think you people should be more sensitive to muslims.

"Ahmed al-Dosary from Kuwait agreed. “I prayed for myself, my family and for the end of the main evil, the United States.”

Dear Mr. Ahmed al Dosary,

I pray that the United States discovers useable fusion in the near, near future, so that, we the "great Satan" never have to give a damn about your kind ever again.

Sincerely,

Old Scratch

While all the men are out at this thing, I'd take the chance to bang one of their wives...

Well, at least until I remove the burqa and realize that I've made a horrible, horrible mistake.

Who am I kidding? I'm desperate!

Does anyone have a paper Kroger bag handy? Heck, plastic is fine too.

The 5-day haj, marred by deadly stampedes in recent years, was overshadowed by the hanging on Saturday of the former Iraqi leader, a hero to some Sunni Arabs because of his anti-U.S. stance, but hated by many Shi'ites.

"The number one Satan is America," said Iraqi pilgrim Suleiman Awadallah, who described himself as "a resistance fighter", after performing the stoning ritual.

"The prayers of all Muslims when they cast their stones at the devil must be directed at (U.S. President George) Bush and his devilish allies in America and the Arab world."

Ahmed al-Dosary from Kuwait agreed. "I prayed for myself, my family and for the end of the main evil, the United States."

Are we preaching genocide, bigotry, engaging in apartheid and tyrannical pratices and treating women like sheep? Who is the real Satan here?

Stop blaming your probs. on others and clean up your act.

News of Saddam's death had put other Iraqi pilgrims in a jubilant mood, and was seen a gift on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice that began on Saturday.

Gee, occassionally some people actually show gratitude.

Happy (drunk off my a$$) New Year, brother and sister lizards.. (hic...)

Too bad that mother-f*cking black s#it-rock didn't go super-critical and take out all them mother-f*cking brain-dead, oxygen-stealing cockroaches that went to suck up to the mother-f*cking devil that it represents. Oh, and by the way, CAIR, happy IslamoNazi-free new year and go f*ck yourself with a hot RPG up your anal pore (one-celled organisms have an anal pore; higher developed creatures such as body lice and bacteria have an anal canal. CAIR critters are not that far along in the evolutionary process nor will they ever progress to that level...). Give us some fireworks that we can really appreciate!

Someone want to e'splain to me why my humorous comment referencing accidental use of a GBU-43 (MOAB) was deleted?

Others here have said things regarding:

earthquakes
the target rich environment
hajj death count pools
bird flu
other references to MOABs & fuel air bombs

I say what everybody is thinking and my comment is deleted? I used no foul language. It was well written and I even provided a reference to a GBU-43. Yet, *poof* - it be gone.

LGF provides excellent coverage of events I'm interested in (unfortunately - I since I wish none of us had to deal with any of this). The comments have always been informative and amusing to read as well. As far as I knew, I was commenting in the spirt of the site, but I guess not.

we can only hope that someone yells "fire" in the midst of the march around that tacky black rock. wouldn't it be lovely for some decent figures this year...no mess, no fuss....just a large mass grave.

i'm sorry for the insensitive remarks, howerver i believe in the truth.

Unless I'm mistaked, Reuters has shown a picture of the building containing Kaaba Stone (likely a meteorite), which is a religious shrine in Mecca. There is another location which contains a "stone" symbolizing the devil and that is what is stoned. Can anybody verify this?

If I'm right, Reuters has "insulted" Islam by inplying these folks are stoning their holiest site. Nice job there. So glad for all the layers of editors, etc.

Uh..is Bush getting all of this? I mean, his peaceful religion is calling for the end of the USA and its' allies.

After all of this, plus all else said throughout the last yea, how can he stand by that comment? I say comment, because it sure as hell isn't an observation.

A picture of the stoning of the devil ritual can be obtained from Google images. Here is one:
[Link: www.cnn.com...]

The picture shown, of the cubic building, is of the Kaaba, which contains the black stone that is revered by believers. The picture in the featured article of the thread just illustrates the size of the crowds at the Haj.

The stoning of the devil ritual generally has a stampede in which many hajjis are killed. That is the story in the article for the image linked in this post. The holiday is the Id al Adha, the feast of the sacrifice, and ironically many hajjis are sacrificed in this ritual of the stoning of the devil, despite the efforts of the Saudi government to keep down the number of those killed in stampedes.

If I recall correctly previous descriptions of the stoning ritual, there are several pillars all in all, and they are each stoned by huge crowds. Stampedes are not unusual.

The caption for the photo in the Reuters article identifies the building as the Kaaba.

According to this Wikipedia article, the objects of the stoning used to be three tall pillars, but the authorities replaced these targets by three walls.
