Cat Stevens Refuses to Denounce Hamas

Fri, Jan 5, 2007 at 1:58:41 pm PST

In this Sunday’s New York Times, Deborah Solomon interviews Islamopop star Cat Stevens, aka Yusuf Islam, aka Yusuf—and the way he answers questions about his support for terrorists is incredibly revealing in its shifty evasiveness: Trying to Get Cat Stevens To Back or Bash Hamas. (Hat tip: NJDhockeyfan.)

But then she raises the obviously still touchy issue of attempts abroad to link him to funding various extremist groups, including Hamas. He had just said he still sells about 1.5 million albums a year netting him a small fortune. What does he think of Hamas?

“That’s an extremely loaded question,” he replies. Pressed further, he says, “I have never supported a terrorist group or any group that did other than charity and good to humankind.”

Solomon responds by saying, fine, but many Americans would like moderate Muslims, such as himself, to denounce the extremists. Wouldn’t he at least say he has “contempt” for Hamas?

“I wouldn’t put those words in my mouth,” he complains. “I wouldn’t say anything on that issue. I’m here to talk about peace. I’m a man who does want peace for this world,” says the man who wrote “Peace Train,” adding, “and I don’t think you will achieve that by putting people into corners and asking them very, very difficult questions about very contentious issues.”

Critic of Hamas gunned down near mosque

By IBRAHIM BARZAK and JOSEF FEDERMAN, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 11 minutes ago

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Assailants gunned down a Muslim preacher known for his anti-Hamas views on Friday, witnesses said, moments after he exited a mosque where he delivered a sermon criticizing the Islamic group's role in a wave of Palestinian violence.

The slaying came as thousands of mourners marched through Gaza City carrying the bodies of seven
Fatah men killed in a standoff with Hamas. Thursday's gunfight was the bloodiest single battle in weeks of factional fighting, and Fatah said it was suspending talks with Hamas until the assailants are brought to justice.

For argument's sake, I'll give Cat the benefit of the doubt that he truly believes people genuinely interested in peace only need to talk about peace.

The problem with that strategy is the other side usually doesn't want to talk about peace.

First, let us all remember what is meant by "peace" here. "Peace be unto you" from an Islamist is kind of like a curse, isn't it? I mean, there can only be "peace" when we all bow to the moon god, right? Cat isn't going to condemn actions intended to bring "peace." Don't hold your breath. Especially when the organizations involved are doing so much perceived good in the region...hospitals, roads, schools, etc. Isn't that what he said? That he supports organizations that do good and bring peace?

CAIR sent Threat?

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said the threat was
contained in an e-mail message sent to Basim Elkarra, executive director of
the Washington-based group's Sacramento Valley chapter.
That threat came a day after a media report indicated that Sen. Barbara
Boxer (D-CA) had rescinded an award given to Elkarra
because she read
attacks against CAIR on an anti-Muslim Internet hate site and after a
pressure campaign by Joe Kaufman, an anti-Muslim extremist in Florida ...
CAIR Board Chairman Dr. Parvez Ahmed today outlined CAIR's response to Boxer in a commentary published on his personal blog. In that commentary, Ahmed wrote: "By acting on smears, distortions and guilt by association,
Sen. Boxer has failed her Muslim constituents and has betrayed the progressive values of her party and state."

India awakens to its other pariahs: Muslims
By Mark Sappenfield | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
Page 1 of 2
DELHI AND HYDERABAD, INDIA – By almost any measure, Salam Mohsin has set himself up well to succeed in India. He has completed his primary education, he speaks a little English, and he is now attending business college. Yet every time he has looked to a future beyond the rickshaws and repair shops of Hyderabad's Old City, he has seen only closed doors.

When Mr. Mohsin applied for his retired father's old government job, not only was he rejected, but his father's pension was cut. Banks have repeatedly denied him loans for his plan to buy and reopen a derelict factory.

The Monitor gives the story behind the story.
In the Monitor
Friday, 01/05/07

This, he says, is the life of a Muslim in India, And perhaps for the first time, this Hindu nation is beginning to believe him. For the past 60 years, Indian Muslims have more often been the subjects of blame - for terrorism and the 1947 partition with Pakistan - than sympathy.

Yet in November, a government-appointed panel suggested that ignorance and prejudice have now made Muslims an underclass on par with the lowest Hindu castes. Now, politicians who have long avoided the subject are openly talking of helping Muslims - potentially even setting aside quotas for Muslim admission into schools and political institutions.

"Awad, the group's national director, said CAIR strongly condemned bin Laden by name after the Sept. 11 attacks. He said Elashi and Royer were not involved with CAIR when they committed their crimes."

*** The Proof ***

Ghassan Elashi: According to the federal indictment, Elashi was laundering money for Islamic terrorist organizations from 11/95 through 4/01 (pages 21 & 22). Dating back to the early 1990s, Elashi had close ties to CAIR's leaders. Elashi founded the CAIR -Texas chapter sometime before October, 2000 (CAIR -Texas first appeared as an affiliate on the CAIR National web site in October 2000).

Ismail Royer: A feisty organization called Anti-CAIR put out a notice today [July 2003] pointing to the fact that when Royer was driving around the Washington, D.C. area in September 2001 with an AK-47-style rifle [see indictment] and more than 200 rounds of ammunition, he was not a former CAIR employee but an active one, as indicated by a USA Today story from that time referring to him as "Ismail Royer of the Council on American-Islamic Relations."

A senior official in the Somali government's new Ministry of the Interior told ABC News government forces had recovered "dozens of foreign passports," including several American passports, on the bodies of al Qaeda fighters killed in combat between forces affiliated with the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) and Ethiopian forces in Somalia.

According to the same source, most of the foreign passports were Sudanese, Pakistani and Yemeni, but several American, British and Australian passports were also recovered.

The senior Somali government official told ABC News that the American passports found on the dead bodies near Baidoa, in Somalia, would be turned over to the American government.

But other than the virgin birth, the Islamic notion of Jesus is about as different from the Christian concept as one can get.

Very true. This is what the public needs to know. They are being sold the lie that Islam really isnt much different than Christianity or Judaism. I forgot about the Mahdi. I guess the Sunnis think Jesus doesnt need help in killing the infidels. :-)

We all have our shames. I stood in line for three hours to get Jimmy Carter's autograph in 1999.

Needless to say, I didn't know about the Arafat-loving Jew-hating thing then. I bought the "nice guy just a weak leader" line.

Someone at LGF once linked to all the Arabic translations of English translations of Hebrew names, and, besides Issa and Yusef, I recall that Dawud/Daoud = David, Maryam = Mary, Musa = Moses, Haroun = Aaron.

Which is interesting, because Big Mo knew just enough of the Christian and Jewish scriptures to make himself look like an idiot.

IIRC, the name of the sura is 'Maryam', where, per Big Mo, Maryam, mother of Jesus/Issa, is also the sister of Haroun. This would strongly suggest Big Mo thought Moses was Jesus' uncle, which would put his chronologies a dozen generations or so off.

Yusef is Arabic for Joseph.

So he's Joe Islam then?

And we already know that Mohammed was the Joe Isuzu of prophets...

Does this mean that Cat Stevens is the 12th Imam?

US deports imam for supporting terrorist group

A Muslim religious leader convicted of lying about his ties to a group labeled as a terrorist organization by the US government has been deported, immigration authorities said Friday.

Fawaz Damra, who served as imam at Ohio's largest mosque, the Islamic Center of Cleveland in Parma, was convicted in June 2004 of concealing his ties to the Islamic Jihad when he applied for US citizenship in 1994. He had been jailed in Michigan since then. (AP)

If someone sends a letter to CAIR with one of those stamps, will they be charged with a hate crime?

In Canada, quite possibly. As with the UK Canada is only semi-democratic. We have "Human Rights Tribunals" which are unelected, unaccountable state-sponsored Star Chambers charged with utterly ruining the lives, businesses and reputations of anyone so bold as to offend politically correct sensibilities. One recent victim of these Soviet-style tribunals was an evangelical Christian who owned a small print shop. He refused to print flyers for a homo sex party on moral grounds. They stomped him into the ground.

Note also that Canada has nothing like the Second Ammendment. We have no "ultimate recourse" against rogue government, except the reassuring presence of our freedom-loving friends to the South who can quietly slip us a few hundred thousand carbines should the need arise.

Since Hamas smuggles weapons into the territories, perhaps Bush does not desire a total Hamas takeover without giving Fatah a fighting chance.

A lot of the old articles are now defunct... and Small Kindness cleaned up it's "crisis map" which once identified Israel as "Holyland"... but this old article touches on the buried highlights of the Catman before he donned his PC persona. Liberals love him... he's a slick willie if you ask me.

...I don't think you will achieve [peace] by putting people into corners and asking them very, very difficult questions...

That would be questions like, "Do you support murder in the name of Islam?"

Very difficult question. Full of lots of 'ifs', 'ands', and 'what have yous'.

But he's quite right. Asking very, very difficult questions will not achieve peace.

Only force of arms will achieve peace when you're faced with a ruthless ideology like Nazi-ism or Islam.

It actually is selling for $500. Since it's a collector's item, I can't imagine any in circulation.

Someone mentioned this idea here a few weeks ago, and well, I couldn't help myself, forgive me for not remembering who mentioned this, thanks for the idea though.

Yeah this headline could have been very simple:

Hippie Stupid

I can just see him saying that, with that goofy, stupid, vacant look on his face. Sorta like Paul Shaffer doing his impression of Don Kirshner... or maybe Neil Innes as the John Lennon character from the Rutles.

Blank, hollow, yet with a maddening persistence of stubborn idiocy, yep. I can see him saying that.

Editor and Publisher is a bunch of moonbats. I'm surprised they printed this story.

When the Muslims make their wish
To go and perform Jihad
When the Mujahids make their wish
To go and perform Jihad
Then they read the Book of God
Sending their Salawat [Blessings].
...
When the world blasts away
We will stand for Judgment Day
Paradise will open up
For those who came with Salawat [Blessings]

From the album "I have no cannons that roar" - Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens)

When Muslims make their wish to go and perform Jihad? Paradise will open up for the Mujahids who send their blessings?!

The "Peace Train" had offically been decomissioned!

By the way, that article is the only source for any of those lyrics that Google can find! Obviously no one wants the public to read Yusuf's lyrics. No surprise there.

I'm tempted to emule that album (no way I'd pay for it) just to transcribe the lyrics.

Wouldn’t he at least say he has “contempt” for Hamas?
“I wouldn’t put those words in my mouth,” he complains. “I wouldn’t say anything on that issue. I’m here to talk about peace. I’m a man who does want peace for this world,”

Unfortunately, this is the type of misunderstanding that arises when a reporter chooses to use a voice recorder in an interview, versus having the interviewee write his thoughts down on a sheet of paper: the words piece and piss both could be heard as "peace."

My bad re the cost, which at today's exchange rate would be $425.18 USD.

I realize it is a collectors' coin, but said that I wish they had made a regular one as a Loonie or a Toonie, which would be in the general circulatuon. And it would be fun to see what they would do. There are also the stamps that are in circulation now, commemorating the Year of the Pig...would they lick them? I guess they would just refuse to buy them...but still, my imagination is running wild just picturing it! :)

G'night, all

Is Hamas a terrorist organization? Is Hizballah a terrorist organization? Do you support the activities of Osama bin Laden? These are questions that CAIR has refused to answer, according to a Fox news report about Senator Boxer withdrawing an award that she had made to a CAIR-affiliated person.

Are these questions difficult to answer? Well, if you want to give one answer to the kafir public, and another answer to Muslims that you would like to incite and that you want to support jihad, then it is difficult to give a public answer. That's because your answer will be heard both by those that you want to fool by a moderate face, and those that you want to incite to jihad.

Some faux moderates get by with a public moderate face, like that Clevelan imam, who was also taped doing fundraising for Palestine Islamic Jihad in which he labeled Jews as apes and pigs.

But CAIR doesn't want to possibly have their words interpreted the wrong way by the followers that they would like to keep in support of jihad. They don't want to risk that. So they refuse to answer "difficult" questions whose answers would run counter to the game that they are playing.

Don't know why Cat Stevens also finds such questions difficult to answer. Maybe he just copies CAIR.

The US government does not find those questions difficult at all. Hamas and Hizballah are listed on the State Department list of foreign terrorist organizations. Osama bin Laden is a terrorist fugitive.

Cat Stevens who? I mean, what worthwhile music has he made in the past 20 years?

179 Sabraguy  Sat, Jan 6, 2007 6:20:44am

Very, very, diffficult question:

"What is the meaning of life?"

Very, very easy question:

"Are Hamas racist murdering thugs?"

Struggling to answer such a polarizing question is enough of an answer. It doesn't demonstrate uncertainty but simply a wish to keep the opinion concealed.

So the question is why are they afraid to give their real answer. Is it shame or fear?

What's with all the crap?

Um.. well - I'm writing music right now, all by my lonesome. I hope to start shopping it around end of this summer. I love guitars and bass but I'm also very into electronics, especially software synthesis.

Though I DO appreciate the aesthetic value and sound of Gibson guitars, they just never felt comfy in my hands - for me, that's as important as any other aspect of an instrument.

The necks always felt too thick and the bodies too small and heavy.

I just went to that site and read responses. People are pissed! And they should be.
