Video: Gathering of Eagles in DC

Sun, Mar 18, 2007 at 10:24:05 am PDT

Age of Hooper was at the Gathering of Eagles demonstration, and filed this great video report.

Youtube Video

The G of E organizers claim that at least 30,000 people attended the pro-America rally.

But this is how the Associated Press is reporting it: War protests grow in D.C., across US.

Police on horseback and foot separated the two groups of demonstrators, who shouted at each other from opposite sides of Constitution Avenue in view of the Lincoln Memorial before the anti-war group marched. Barriers also kept them apart.

But war protester Susanne Shine of Boone, N.C., found herself in a crowd of counterdemonstrators, and came out in tears, with her sign in shreds. “They ripped up my peace sign,” she said, after police escorted her, her husband and two adult daughters from the group. “It was really pretty scary for me.”

Boo Hoo Hoo.

3 astronmr20  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 8:28:17am

Ripped up her peace sign? What?

How hard did the AP have to look for this supposed "incident?"

I saw nothing but peaceful reverence from the Eagles.

AP is trying to pull a war out of their ass, for obvious reasons.

4 RobCon  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 8:29:01am

Quiet and dignified always loses to the loud and shrill as far as the left-wing media is concerned.

5 JammieWearingFool  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 8:29:08am

Check out this illiterate sign.

6 hippieforlife  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 8:29:45am

Checking the Michelle Malkin site and then a quick peek at Dkos was a lesson in alternative reality.

The left just seems to love being angry. Nothing is ever good enough. They are many centuries past the age of reason.

7 astronmr20  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 8:30:16am

And if it's true, I doubt her sign said "peace."

It likely said somehting like "F the Army," or "I support the troops when they shoot their officers," both of which, by the way, were "peace signs" offered at this event.

8 cookielady  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 8:30:32am

I listened to the end of the CSPAN thing yesterday and all they did was whine about the cold, but I have not really heard similar complaints from the GOE.

12 sattv4u2  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 8:40:37am

The groups were seperated by barriers, then how did "Susanne Shine of Boone, N.C., found herself in a crowd of counterdemonstrators" ? Did Scottie beam her over !?!?!?!? Then the "peaceful" Mrs Shine says
“They ripped up my peace sign,”

I'm reminded of the old saying.,, "Don't show up to a gun fight with a knife"

Para Bellum

Dear Mooonbats,

I took my three year old out to the rifle range yesterday. He already comprehends in black and white the morality plays within Star Wars and Narnia. I remember my mother explaining political reality to me at three when I observed the Cuban missile Crisis and the JFK Assassination on TV. So, don't point the child abuse canard at me, I am preparing him for the future - a future where Good will triumph over evil.

Kent State is going to look like a sorority car wash in comparison.

Hell, I remember when I was three and the Korean War was still on, and my Mom was explaining things to us (because my Dad was a pilot in the Air Force Reserve), and all I wanted to know, and all I said was: Is Daddy going away?

Nothing else mattered to my young brain.

Yes, I believe it is! Bring on the grand jury!

19 astronmr20  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 8:49:28am

And honestly, if the AP tried sooo hard to look for this "incident" with Susanne Shine from Boone, NC, I'd still like to know more.

If I was was a wagering man, I'd bet that not only did her sign probably say a lot more than simply "peace," (not that such a thing excuses an attack), but that said moonbat was likely shouting and spewing such hate that amounted to "F your dead son, you reich-wing scum!" or some such thing.

It's details like this we need to know. From the news.

Wait... Oh it's AP nevermind.

33 SaneInMN  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 8:58:33am

The AP, like most of the msm, is the enemy. They are only doing their job, and that job's end goal is the defeat of western democracy, with special emphasis on defeating the US. Here is another example of the enemies tactics, courtesy of CNN...

From [Link: www.captainsquartersblog.com...]

Joel Mowbray, the syndicated columnist whose writing occasionally appears at Power Line (and who I met at CPAC), has an article in today's OpinionJournal that reports on how an American-financed Arabic television channel has started broadcasting jihadist content. Al-Hurra, which started off as an Arabic equivalent to Voice of America, has shifted its perspective towards Hassan Nasrallah and Hezbollah rather than the moderation we expected:

Mr. Alusi is not the only one concerned about the recent changes at Al-Hurra. Ken Tomlinson, the chairman of the Broadcasting Board of Governors--the congressionally-created panel charged with overseeing Al-Hurra, among other government-funded broadcasters--is currently demanding answers about the network's decision last December to broadcast most of a speech by Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hasan Nasrallah.

What happened to Al-Hurra? Well, Well, Well...
Unsurprisingly, the change came with the arrival of former CNN producer Larry Register. He quickly moved to make Al-Hurra follow the lead of Al-Jazeerah, a move that made Hurra's staff happy but veered sharply from the stated mission of the channel. The US funds Hurra in order to have an outlet for American diplomacy direct to the Arabic people, without the filtering effects of state-controlled media in Arab nations. That is why the administration supports Hurra with American tax revenues.

34 astronmr20  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 8:59:12am

Seriously...

She comes out of a crowd, and we don't even know the circumstances. The AP writer didn't even witness the event for themselves (seems to be a common thread these days with the AP). Did she pick a fight? Did she shove first? Try to rip up a sign first? Maybe, maybe not.

The end result is that by heresay, the AP has found ONE supposed incident with which to smear the Eagles and paint the whole event in a confrontational light. Well played, AP.

I hate the msm in the strongest sense of the word hate.

A couple of years ago, some lefty troll was getting all snide and obnoxious about right-wingers not reading any newspapers. Then, I said, "I don't light my home with whale oil lamps, and I don't preserve my food in an ice box. Why should I rely on nineteenth-century technology to get information?"

The first veteran I talked to was a man named Kevin Gray, who was carrying a sign dissing Jane Fonda. Ms. Fonda is a frequent target of gibes and insults among vets — I heard one of the organizers announce over the PA system that the porta-johns were available along Constitution Avenue “for anyone who wants to take a Fonda or a Sheehan.”

65 akak sigh The state dept folks refuse to see reality.

Here's a great comment to a Fitzgerald post on jihad watch.

The bottom line is: One cannot win by playing defense. Defense takes at least ten times the men and materiel than offense does. Worse, defense abdicates all initiative to the enemy.

In Iraq, we are playing by the Dien Bien Phu [ Or is it the Condi Rice/ Scowcroft] strategy--sit in the middle of a hostile valley, surrounded by enemies, and wait for them to attack. Worse, when they do attack, we "arrest" them and send them to "jail," after which the Islamic "justice system" either releases them outright (perhaps in celebration of Ramadan, or for some other excuse), or else arranges for them to "escape" from captivity.

The armed services in recent decades were shrunk by half, and reorganized to be "expeditionary forces." They are designed to move and to attack and to prevail. They are not sized, trained, or equipped to be occupation forces. But in Iraq, we use them as gendarmes and jailers and public affairs officers.[Because the state dept doesn't want to fill the diplomatic jobs in Iraq and ask the military to fill them instead.]

Instead, our expeditionary forces should, as they are designed to, be following the jihadists back to their nests--in Syria, in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon, in Pakistan, even in Iran--wrecking their infrastructure (and the infrastructure of their sponsors, if they resist) and inflicting maximum casualties. And then our forces should immediately leave, without apology, without any nation-building nonsense. Then, repeat as necessary. Keep moving. Keep attacking. Keep the intiative.

And when the national sponsors of the various thuggish Islamic jihaist groups call for emergency sessions at the UN over this or that incursion, there must be a new incursion even before the diplomats have time to assemble on the first one. Let these phony diplomats (jihad by the tongue) scream until they hyperventilate. [Our diplomats should be playing offense, too, but that is another story.]
The only thing the enemy jihadists should be worried about is "where are the Amerians going to attack next?" Instead, we sit around and worry about "where will the jihadists attack next?"

After 9/11, President Bush came up with exactly the right concept in his "with us or against us" strategy. But he almost immediately stopped playing to win. The aggressive policy of going after the jihadist nests was well within his presidential authority. But he instead deferred to the UN and the EU in a useless attempt to build coalitions and to garner support from the left. What a waste. What a quagmire of appeasement. Neither the UN nor the EU (nor the left in general) is on our side in this fight to protect our civilization.

A lot of people forget that most of America's combat deaths in the early days of WWII were suffered by Merchant Mariners who were torpedoed on ships crossing the Atlatntic twhile bringing supplies and armaments to England. Their life expectancy was not all that great

From Michelle Malkin's blogburst-

After the protesters took their march to the Pentagon (who works there on a Saturday is beyond me) the Vets milled around, making sure key contacts will be maintained. An interesting side point: the grounds where the vets congregated were clean, no trash; the grounds where the protesters congregated - well, they apparently don't know how to use trash cans.

First of all, I am glad those key contacts will be maintained. I have to start watching for these things and get my flag out there too! It makes me crazy with the lefties when they throw out that "America agrees with me" bull when I know it's simply not true. Not the people I know. And not a bunch of the ones that think they do when you actually lay out the facts for them.

The side note of them not being able to use trash cans is just hilarious - Earthy types don't really love the Earth do they?

They were some ballsy folks, those Merchant Mariners. A 10-12 day voyage across an infamously fickle ocean (the North Atlantic could be treacherous!), trying to dodge U-Boats and torpedoes, and then have to deal with the U-Boat's deck guns as the coup-de-grace; well, my hat goes off to those brave folks. And you are so right. They kept Britain alive during its most vulnerable period.

There's another report by a Viet Vet who attended GOC over at medienkritik

Guard groups of vets formed at the two entrances to the GOE site, and no one with an antiwar banner was allowed in. There were minor scuffles when some protest types tried to push in, usually their signs were trashed and they found themselves facing a solid wall of bodies that would not let them pass. And they went away, yelling nasty things. I saw one young woman slide past the first rank of guards, then start screaming at everyone, get barred from further travel inward by a line of men, and when she kept up her yelling, the police came in, she abused them, and wound up on the ground outside the gate. (A lot of smiling and chuckling at that point.) But no vet touched her.

117 Just_A_Grunt  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 9:55:59am

Folks as much as the GOE did to lift the spirits of the Vietnam era vets the feedback coming from the soldiers currently deployed in this generations war against Islamic fascism is even more encouraging. Reading some of the comments from them this GOE has hiked their morale to new levels. For once they got to see thanks to the web some Americans who put actin behind the words and made themselves known. I can't remember which blogger it is over at Hot Air, Bryan I think who has commented on the new feeling in the air and I think there may indeed be one. It was not gathering of victims or those seeking to move some sort of alternate political policy. It was a very large group of people waving flags proud to say they are proud of their country and they are equally proud of today's service men and women.
So to all who made the trip, Well done and Mission Accomplished. The war is not over but the first battle has been joined and the anti American forces have been dealt a severe blow.

A final thought about the demonstration in front of the Pentagon. We had a fire in and evacuation of my building on 9/24/2004. The building has just under 100 units. the crowd in front of the building looked to be about half the size of yesterday's demonstration. By that measure I estimate the crowd in front of the Pentagon to be about 1000. Thank you C-Span for the wide angle shots.

The people organizing "anti-war" demonstrations are "anti-war if Bush is Commander in Chief" demonstrators.

Liberal democrats have demonstrated that they are very willing to send somebody else's kid into battle such as Somalia and the Balkans as long such military action does not serve the national or economic interest of the USA.

And the American Left are very willing to murder anyone who isn't at least a socialist (SLA, Weather Underground, Black Panthers).

Of course the A.P., as well as nearly all of the msm has to spin, distort, deceive and outright lie about the events in D.C. this weekend.

The msm can't show Pro-American, Pro-Troops, Patriotic Americans showing up to protect the sacred war monuments and memorials from desecration by the anti-war, anti-American moonbats, and to show their total support of our brave troops, because if they did, what would they look like,

liars, deceivers, spinnmeisters, distorters.

4000 moonbats show up in all of their hate America, hate the troops, hate Bush, hate any Patriotic Americans drivel, and the America supporters show up numbering over 30,000, and the moonbats get all of the msm's attention.

Well, they can have it, because the great, great majority of Americans are Pro-America, Pro-Troops, Pro-Freedom, and the msm, the A.P. included, continue to look like the outright lairs, deceivers and distorters that they are.

To hell with the moonbats and the msm!

#87 funky chicken:

Here's a great comment to a Fitzgerald post on jihad watch.

I think it's unfair to Jihad Watch to cherry-pick a single comment made there, while ignoring the message written by Jihad Watch itself, just because you don't like it.

Fitzgerald has called for the U.S. forces to withdraw from the Maliki government and Baghdad environs, and abandon Bush's democratization pipe dream once and for all, are you aware of that?

If you're not, then here is what Fitzgerald wants Bush to say about Iraq:

We have done quite enough for the Iraqis...We have done all we could, and much more. We have remained in Iraq now, for more than four years. We have, that is, been at war on behalf of the people of Iraq, in order to liberate them from a despot and so that they could get unused to the habit of submitting to despotism, and begin to experience some notion of democracy. This is longer than we were at war during the Revolutionary War, or the Civil War, or World War I, or World War II, or the war in Korea. It is now time -- some would say it is long past time -- for the people in Iraq to decide if they are indeed the people in Iraq, or if they are the "Iraqi people."

We cannot stay to make that decision for them. We cannot stay to fight the battles of this side against that side, or that side against this side. That would be a terrible thing to expect us to do. We will not do it.

I now declare that American forces will be withdrawing from Iraq, starting May 1, 2007. That withdrawal does not depend on what the Iraqi government tells us it wants. We will do what the American people tell us they want, rather, and it has told us, in any number of ways, that it wants us out of Iraq."

You can agree or disagree with this. But when a blog of Jihad Watch's caliber makes a statement like this, we ought to hear Fitzgerald out as to why he feels so strongly about this. He is as far from a "moonbat" as it is possible to get.

Our own publicly funded broadcaster here in Australia showed (suprise suprise) the demo in a whole different light. LOTS of comparisons to Vietnam, solid bloks of moonbats marching, and only "thin" looking groups of patriots counterprotesting.
Oh and of course 1 shot of a counterprotestor yelling "your traitors", to emphasise the thuggery of the right.
If the numbers talked about here the ABC in Australia have again outright distorted the news in favour of their protestor buddies.
I so hate our government sponsered media, they should be scrapped.

137 Egfrow  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 12:58:33pm

From the Sacremento Bee,

"I'm here because I'm absolutely outraged that people are dying by the hundreds of thousands at a cost of a trillion dollars," Miglior said.

Referring to the anti-war sentiment in the United States, he added, "There has been a definite shift over the years and it has become more and more obvious that this administration lied and cherry-picked intelligence to support the case for war."

Jay Colbe, 58, is a veteran of anti-war rallies. He remembered protesting in front of the Pentagon in 1967, a demonstration mirrored by the large rally there Saturday. He planned to attend a protest today in San Francisco. A candlelight vigil also is planned at 7 p.m. Monday in Sacramento, at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento Auditorium, 2425 Sierra Blvd.

WTF?

138 NomadOfNorad  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 1:09:33pm

Men and women, boys and girls, and small furry critters from Alpha Centauri... I am beginning to get an inkling that things are polarizing more than the Lefties and the MSM want to believe... or admit to themselves.

The Lunatic Left are getting Lunaticky Leftier and Lunaticky Leftier... and the patriotic Right, plus the men in the military and the supporters of the military, and ordinary Right-supporting citizens, are starting to get more and more ticked at these people.

I mean, 4,000 protesters plan to show up, and 30,000 military people show up first, on their OWN time, to make sure the 4,000 don't cause trouble?

And at that, I'm hearing some of the pundits on Fox News Channel stating how fed up they're getting with the Hollywierd Left.

I think things are going to get VERY ugly for the Left. It could well come down to life-threatening injuries being inflicted upon the Lefty-protester-types at some point in the very near future if they make a wrong move.

Blood splattering. Broken arms or legs. Even heads caved in.

Hell, we might even see the first "martyr" for the anti-War Left!

I'm not asking for that to happen. Rather, my gut feeling is telling me that this will happen, and woe be upon the one's that set them off the first time. Because they won't see it coming.

I think we're at the tipping point, and the whole of national opinion is about to tip against the Left, in a very big and very dramatic way.

Unfortunately, I also think the Lunatic Fringe Far Left, as this happens, are going to become more and more shrill, more and more hate-filled, and more and more certain that they're totally justified and right... and will utterly destroy themselves.

Unfortunately, they'll probably take some good people on the Right, and even in the middle, down with them as they destroy themselves.

149 AngryAmerican  Sun, Mar 18, 2007 3:10:46pm

Mountain operative Toothless Dawg with some more pictures and an excellent write-up of the activities yesterday at the Vietnam Veteran's War memorial.

Speaking of Jane (of the Jihad type, anyhow) - WHERE THE HECK WAS SHE?

Was it just a wee bit too cold for her?

As a parent of an OIF vet, we hear countless times how "I support our Troops, but don't support the war" and all of the dissent about the war. It hurts to hear this. It hurts to hear people say that they hope your soldier FAILS or worse, and that the work they have done / sacrifices they have made should go down the toilet.

And although many of our soldiers say "it does not bother them" that "these folks have a right to say what they want", it becomes apparent that this is our soldier's way of dealing with this dissent. When our soldiers open up and the feelings do come out - they begin to voice how if we give up now - the time they spent and sacrifices they made in this war, would all have been for nothing. A repeat of history from Vietnam.

Witnessing what had just happened yesterday, I have to express my deepest gratitude to Gathering of Eagles, all those that showed up for the event, and ALL of our veterans. And extend this gratitude from our soldiers and the rest of us military family members. This has given a glimmer of hope that there is a voice in this country that is willing to make a commitment to keep history from repeating itself.

I was at Gathering of Eagles all day and I have to be honest- there were not 30,000 of us there. I seriously doubt that we had that many. We did have more than the moonbats, though. And the only time I saw someone breaking the law was a hippie hopping the barrier, trying to leap across to the GOE side. The police snatched him before he got 1/2 way across, though. Mostly it was loud but peaceful- I myself did some yelling and rude hand gestures and maybe a little swearing. But that's it. Zero violence.

There's also a conservative female representative from Tennessee who's terrific talking against moonbat reps who disrespect our country and the job our troops are doing putting forward America's committment to freedom & liberty as bulwarks against fanatical islam.

Oliver North's War Stories today on the rise of islamic radicalism shows when America is weak & retreats, our enemies amongst the fanatical radicals get bold and agressive killing our allies before they attack us directly as happened beginning with JDhimmy Carter's retreat from the world stage.

I am laughing my a$$ off! With todays socialist judges it is only perjury if a non-dhimmicrat does not dye all hairs on their person.

As for AP, this would not be their first lie.

Hi all,
I will send my Navy vet hubby here tomorrow to take a look. I am so proud to see the vets stand up and be counted when and where it counts. It has really affected me as I was part of the Kumbaya youngster / Joan Biaz crowd of the 60's. Suffice it to say I learned a long time ago how wrong I was. Been crying all day and cannot get through all of the coverage. I am so saddened and frustrated and angry to see this attempt again ... by the same people. Haven't they had their 15 minutes of fame ? I think they want it again ... to succeed in making America lose. It's unfrigging believable.

Today, marks a day that will turn heads and minds. This day is 'power to the patriotic people'. (to use a term, ahem)
Salutes to all who turned out and kudos to the reporting.
/rant off and silent no more

Oliver North's War Stories today on the rise of islamic radicalism shows when America is weak & retreats, our enemies amongst the fanatical radicals get bold and agressive killing our allies before they attack us directly as happened beginning with JDhimmy Carter's retreat from the world stage.

What's encouraging is that some of the Republicans are realizing the same thing with respect to the Democraps: When Republicans go soft or lib (I'm talkking about you, Sen. McCain R-INO AZ), the Democraps are emboldened, and Republicans lose. When Republicans are strong and conservative (e.g., the Thompson and other speech you mentioned), Republicans kick Democrap butt.

Hopefully this is the start of a real trend, not just a flash in the pan.

What a great day for an old squid. Frackin' freezing, but the rally was successful far beyond the organizers hopes. We easily outnumbered International Answer, the dozen code pinkos, and a score of anarchists. The park service is calling out 30,000 Eagles attending, but truthfully I think the number was more like 15000. As we hoped to get 1500, this was amazing for an arctic day. It was very hard to tell numbers - Vets were everywhere, at memorials, confronting moonbats, across the bridge in Arlington.

I'd like to think that this gathering was a sharp spike in the hearts of the moonbat community. They didn't get their way this time, and it appeared that they realized it. They got surprise, humiliation, shame, and embarrassment in trying to confront this many veterans. This ain't 40 years ago.

Pictures on my site around the 18th.
