Dead on, as usual.

So would one refer to Gaza literally turning into a cesspool poetic or ironic? I often confuse those 2 terms.

So would one refer to Gaza literally turning into a cesspool poetic or ironic? I often confuse those 2 terms.

I would call it poetic justice, as the terrorists in control spend an untold amount of money on weapons to kill Jews rather than on their own, who they leave in poverty.

#5 phoenixgirl

You are so right. That is exactly what is is, and they will not change. They hate is so much that they will stop at nothing to kill as many Jewish Israelis as possible. Meanwhile? They let this happen...no doubt the U.N et al will only hand over more money.

Ironic is when the exact opposite happens from what one would expect.

The example George Carlin gives is a diabetic who is run over by a truck carrying insulin.

I believe Malaysia and Indonesia may be the closest there is but we also give them hugely preferential tariff treatment and if we took our marbles away they'd likely collapse. I just don't think we give them military support.

Well, wait a sec....we saved Indonesia's ass in the tsunami, didn't we ?

Gaza City Mayor Majid Abu Ramadan, who leads a council of Gaza municipalities, blamed the collapse on endemic lawlessness.

Best definition I know: Irony is the perception of the gap between appearance and reality.

The irony here is that, in this situation, the usual, expected distance between metaphor and reality has vanished. "Gaza is a cesspool" has become a literal statement of fact instead of a figure of speech.

I'd call it, "Life imitates Art."

This is one of those editorial cartoons you're not sure how to react to - you know the taste is highly questionable but you know it's the utter truth too. My reaction is similar to when I see Palestinian children dressed in fatigues, holding rifles and RPGs.

There's a part of you that knows it's a grave injustice. There's another part that knows before too awful long, the bullseye will be painted on their chest from an American or Jewish scope just to save ourselves. It's undeniable.

As each day goes by, I become more and more convinced that there are fewer and fewer "moderate" Muslims as many would like to believe. Walid Shoebat was right.

Ancient Lizard Missing Front Limbs

Described in the current issue of the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, the snake-like lizard had a small head and willowy body. Extending 10 to 12 inches from snout to tail, the aquatic creature also sported a lengthy neck and relatively large rear limbs. Missing were all the bones of its forearms, including the hands and digits found in modern lizards.

The oddball creature, Adriosaurus microbrachis, is a member of a lineage of lizards thought to be snakes' closest relatives.

“It adds to the picture we have of what was happening 100 million years ago,” said lead researcher Michael Caldwell, a paleontologist at the University of Alberta, in Canada. “We now know that losing limbs isn't a new thing and that lizards were doing it much earlier than we originally thought.”

The new fossil reveals the earliest record of this limb-shedding in a lizard and gives scientists a rare glimpse back to the time when terrestrial lizards evolved to be limbless and returned to their watery origins. In fact, the ancestors of all animals lived in aquatic and marine environments

And then there's the version in Genesis.

Top story on Michelle Malkin:

The Protect John Doe Act

House Republicans today surprised Democrats with a procedural vote to protect public-transportation passengers from being sued if they report suspicious activity -- the first step by lawmakers to protect "John Doe" airline travelers already targeted in a lawsuit by Muslim imams that charges profiling.

The introduction of a motion to recommit the Rail and Public Transportation Security Act of 2007 back to committee with instructions to add the protective language was introduced by Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee.

Mr. King says all Americans, airline passengers included, must be protected from lawsuits if they report suspicious behavior that may foreshadow a terrorist attack.

...The language is based on a bill introduced last week by Rep. Steve Pearce, New Mexico Republican, to protect "John Does," or passengers targeted in the suit filed by six Muslim imams earlier this month in Minneapolis.

This is a more disgusting version of the Johnstown Flood. People warned for years that the dam above Johnston was poorly made and eventually would burst. No one did anything about it. The prediction came true. In the exact same way, foreign aid agencies pointed out repeatedly that the Gaza sewage lake would eventually overflow. Hamas and the PA, of course, did nothing about it. They took their hundreds of millions of dollars in aid and spent it on weaponry and corruption. The infrastructure went to pot.

What can you do with a people that destroy themselves over and over?

The Israelis left the Gazans greenhouses and beautiful subdivisions when they withdrew. Now the place is literally covered in shit. (Their own shit, mind you.) Palestine is a place where metaphors aren't even needed any more.

I'll see you, and raise you on the cynicism. I think the media has the Veto stories prepped to go already. Think of what a fat, juicy gift to the BDS mindset this is:

"VETO!"
"BUSH SAYS MORE WAR"
"NO WITHDRAWAL; TROOP SURGE INCREASES" with a sub-headline "X dozen killed in car bombings outside Baghdad".

et cetera.

I'll bet cash money that they're prepping the headlines, greasing the "Expert" rolodexes, and looking for Iraqis on the Street right this minute. Oh sure, they won't call it a set-up, or Pre-Fab Journalism. They'll call it "strategy" or "anticipating the story". Yeah, of course. But what I'm zeroing in on is this: lots of these Dems used to say that we can't set timetables. Now they've voted for timetables. They caved because they're trying to get the shrieking nutroots, their insanely leftist constituents, off their backs. "See? We tried, but Bush vetoed it (now shut up and go away)." I'm saying it won't work; the nutroots will shriek even louder for a Murtha-esque total cut-off of funds.

Q: Will they cave, and go for THAT?

I do know that Gaza was the target for the last authenticated attack by the famed Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. I can tell you about the city of Gaza in pre-Roman times. A proud, wealthy seaport. Always put up a tough fight against invaders. When Alexander conquered Syria/Judea/Palestine, Gaza put up a stiff resistance and was taken with great difficulty. Gaza was originally a Philistine city, and it kept its distinctly non-Jewish culture and character all through the Persian and Greek eras. They were big trading partners with Egypt and therefore consistently loyal to Egypt. Basically, a big pain in Judea's ass. That's something that has never changed. What is different is that ancient Gaza actually had something to proud of.

Quebec voters show conservative streak
[Link: www.ft.com...]

Quebeckers have delivered a strong message to their politicians that they have grown weary of the decades-old debate on secession from Canada.

Voters in the French-speaking province’s elections on Monday punished the two traditional parties, relegating the ruling Liberals to a minority government and giving the separatist Parti Québécois (PQ) its lowest share of the vote since the 1970s. The big winner was the Action Démocratique du Québec (ADQ), a right-of-centre, populist group that focused on bread-and-butter issues. The ADQ grew from five to 41 seats in the National Assembly and becomes the official opposition.

And with that, goodnight.

Did you know that Arabs have opposed plans for building permanent housing in the West Bank that were supported by Israel? They *want* to keep the Pals in misery for their own selfish purposes - mostly to hide the brutality of their own miserable repressive regimes. Scum, all of them.

Buddha boy’ plans live burial: report

KATHMANDU: Ram Bahadur Bomjan – Nepal’s ‘Buddha Boy’ whose followers claim he has meditated without food or water – is back in the news with media reports suggesting that he plans to be buried alive while meditating.
The teenager from Ratanpuri village in southern Nepal’s Bara district has remained in the headlines since he surfaced under a tree in the Charkoshi forest in 2005, meditating cross-legged, just as the Buddha is depicted.
Clad only in a strip of white cloth, the boy was the object of intense reverence as well as curiosity after reports said he had been praying at the same spot in the same posture for nearly nine months without food or water.
Then, just as abruptly as he had surfaced he vanished, prompting a long search by followers, villagers and security forces. He reappeared in a nearby forest and reportedly told his followers that he had left the earlier meditation site because it was getting too crowded.
This year, Bomjan was reported to have disappeared once again only to resurface in the Halpuriya area of Bara district where he was said to be planning to embark on an even more difficult form of meditation.
Bomjan now plans to begin patal samadhi (underground meditation), a private TV channel reported yesterday, quoting a local journalist.
According to reports, his followers have already dug up an eight-foot deep trench in which Bomjan plans to descend. The trench will be then filled.
Asian religious traditions narrate tales of holy men being buried alive, braving extreme heat or cold and subjecting the body to other torments in order to master the senses and attain salvation.
A question is being asked whether the district administration will allow Bomjan’s followers to bury him. There has been no official response. – IANS

IDF B-17 page (Just one photo but it shows the aircraft in IDF service).
According to Gunston, Tallmantz bought the planes in stripped condition supposedly for some doubtful commercial purpose. They lacked gun turrets, bomb sights and many other items of military equipment but some of this was added later. They apparently never received the B-17's characteristic gun turrets while in IDF service, however.
Their flight to Israel during the '48 war (one step ahead of the FBI) is one of those stranger-than-fiction stories that pop up frequently during the early history of Israel. Among other things, they stopped off in Czechoslokia, took on some (probably) ex-German bombs and bombed Cairo during the delivery flight.

Be sure to check out this fantastic page of posters and cover art from the IDF/AF magazine

Why is Britain being so craven?

This should be read aloud in Parliament

Admiral Lord Nelson must be revolving in his grave. While on patrol in the Shatt-al-Arab waterway between Iran and Iraq, 15 Royal Marines and sailors were seized by Iran on a trumped up charge that they had entered Iranian waters.

Six days on and there is no sign of their release. On the contrary, Iran has stepped up its aggression, threatening to charge the kidnapped marines with espionage and even denying them British consular access.

Britain seems to be in some kind of dreamworld. There is no sense of urgency or crisis, no outpouring of anger. There seems to be virtually no grasp of what is at stake.

Some commentators have languidly observed that in another age this would have been regarded as an act of war. What on earth are they talking about? It is an act of war. There can hardly be a more blatant act of aggression than the kidnapping of another country's military personnel.

What clearly does belong to another age is this country's ability to understand the proper way to respond to an act of war. When his Marines were seized by the Iranians, the commander of HMS Cornwall, Commodore Nick Lambert, did nothing to stop them - and later said it was probably all a misunderstanding. If Nelson had been such a diplomat in such circumstances, Trafalgar would surely have been lost.
Our Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett said the Government had been 'disturbed' by the incident. The Prime Minister took three days to say that the seizure was 'unjustified and wrong' and mouthed platitudes about the welfare of the detainees. Yesterday he talked severely of ' moving to a new phase'.

My goodness, the Iranian regime must be shivering in its shoes. With what contempt they must regard us - a country that stands impotently by while its people are kidnapped and then does no more than bleat that it is 'disturbed'.

What on earth has happened to this country of ours, for so many centuries a byword for defending itself against attack, not least against piracy or acts of war on the high seas?

THAT is one reason Akka, the Stinking Pit of the Middle East, was selected as a suitable 'punishment' for Baha'u'llah, and He was exiled there.

So, the fine is nice - but what I really want to know here is where are the criminal prosecutions of the people involved in this criminal act?

ROANOKE, VA, United States (UPI) -- ITT Corp. has agreed to pay a $100 million fine for sending militarily sensitive technology to China, Britain and Singapore, U.S. officials said Tuesday.

ITT, the leading manufacturer of night vision equipment for the U.S. military, also has agreed to plead guilty in U.S. District Court in Roanoke, Va., to one count each of export of defense articles without a license and omission of statements of material facts in arms exports reports, a government press release said.

'ITT`s exportation of this sensitive technology to China and other nations jeopardized our national security and the safety of our military men and women on the battlefield,' Assistant Attorney General Kenneth L. Wainstein said.

The penalty is one of the largest ever paid in a criminal case and makes ITT the first major defense contractor convicted of violation the act.

ITT officials at corporate headquarters in White Plains, N.Y., had no immediate comment. However, the company has said it is 'absolutely certain that the heart of this technology -- the night vision tube itself -- is secure.'

Julie Myers of the Department of Homeland Security said peddling of sensitive materials 'pose a potentially deadly threat' to the military and nation.

"Police resistance" from Galliawatch

This poster was placed in mailboxes in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, in an effort to remind the residents that unless they support their police, there will be civil war.
The heading reads:
"They Only Stop Troublemakers!"

Under the hat it reads:

"Deliberately led into traps, forced to bow before youths still holding a Molotov cocktail in their hands (knowing that this low life will be set free the next day), forced to watch youths break windows in the name of Allah, and then being accused of 'brutality' because of a simple ID verification..."

Followed by:

Support Your National Police before the inevitable civil war and before... that!

"That" refers to the French Islamic Republic, illustrated by the logo at the bottom which appears to be a French flag torn in the middle, though the meaning of the logo isn't entirely clear.

Pope says hell and damnation are real and eternal
By Richard Owen in Rome

March 28, 2007 12:00am
Article from: The Australian

HELL is a place where sinners really do burn in an everlasting fire, and not just a religious symbol designed to galvanise the faithful, Pope Benedict XVI has said.

Addressing a parish gathering in a northern suburb of Rome, the Pope said that in the modern world many people, including some believers, had forgotten that if they failed to "admit blame and promise to sin no more", they risked "eternal damnation - the inferno".

Hell "really exists and is eternal, even if nobody talks about it much any more"...

A New Form of Evil

I never thought we could see a new form of evil. After the gas chambers of the Holocaust, the tens of millions murdered in the Gulag, the forced starvation in the Ukraine, the hideous medical experiments on people by the Germans and the Japanese in World War II, the torture chambers in all police states, I had actually believed that no new forms of evil existed.

I was wrong.

Of course, for sheer cruelty, one cannot outdo the Nazis; no depiction of hell ever matched the reality of Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen. But while Islamists and Baathists in Iraq have not devised new forms of torture -- there probably are no new ways left -- they have devised a new form of evil: murdering, maiming and torturing as many innocents among their own people as possible.

I do not know of an analogous form of evil. When the Allies conquered Nazi Germany, disaffected Nazis did not go around murdering and cutting off the heads of fellow Germans in order to make the Allies leave. Nor did disaffected Japanese blow up Japanese students so as to make the American occupation of Japan untenable.

Children could be monitored for signs of criminal behaviour

All children could face compulsory checks to discover if they are at risk of turning into criminals, the Prime Minister announced today.

The controversial proposal came as part of a wide-ranging review of crime and security policy published by 10 Downing Street.

It said the checks could take place at existing important stages in a child's life, such as the move from primary to secondary school.

The Government's plan to prevent crime said: "Establish universal checks throughout a child's development to help service providers to identify those most at risk of offending.

"These checks should piggyback on existing contact points such as the transition to secondary schools."

U.S. stock futures drop on Persian Gulf tensions
Bernanke testimony, durable-goods orders data ahead

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stock market futures pointed to a second-straight session of losses on Wednesday, with lingering tension between Iran and the West lifting crude-oil prices and dampening investor sentiment. Markets will be awaiting the word of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and durable-goods data.

Expect oil futures to be elevated as long as Iran gets away with pulling their hijack job. That will put downward pressure on corporate profits. And hopefully Bernanke has perfected the ability to give testimony and put everyone to sleep, not saying anything in particular. The last thing we need right now in the market is for him to give any particulars that the amateurs out there can misinterpret.

Incoming Fatwa Alert for Dia'a al-Mosawi:

It must continually be asked: are there sacred cows in the Arab world? Are there sacred cultural swamps destroying our intellectual ability in the Islamic world? Who is responsible for destroying our consciousness? Who is responsible for making us lose hope?

Why do other nations advance while we regress, as Shakeeb Arsalan asks? Why does the world navigate the frontiers of knowledge, while we are prisoners in ideological jail cells? These cells tear us apart politically, socially, and culturally. The French thinker Beaufilar says in order to think well politically, one must be a good reader of history. Who among us has been a good reader of history?

History has been written by our governments, in a pragmatic, Machiavellian manner. As a result, history is exploding in our generations’ malicious, divisive grudges. We see our homes and our states falling, one after the other. This history continues to ignite anxious ideas in the minds of both Shiite and Sunni.

The question is, how long will we continue to drink from the well of ignorance? How long will continue to brainwash our teenagers and condition them with the black color of hatred emanating from disputes that took place more than 1400 years ago? Let us read history using our brains, not only our hearts.

Why don’t we call for unity under an umbrella of humanism and establish a cultural Marshall Plan based on our common ground? The rest of the world moves toward renovating its historical mistakes in search of a better future, while we in the Muslim world still live trapped behind ancient walls. The world is changing. Germany is united after destroying the Berlin wall while another wall is being built between the Palestinians, between Hamas and Fatah. Palestine is a symbol and we should not allow anyone to use it and benefit from the blood of our children and the blood of coming generations. What is the fault of our youth? Why do we, instead of introducing them to science, knowledge, productivity and development, divide them with the goal of harming others? Where each leader is trying to influence youth and get them to serve a political agenda, the wise men of Palestine from both parts must serve as the safety pin.

Following up on the Paris riot thread below, the Socialists of course blame the police and an opposition candidate.

Socialists attack Sarkozy after Paris clashesWhat set this off?

PARIS (Reuters) - France's opposition Socialists accused conservative presidential candidate Nicolas Sarkozy of worsening tension between youths and police on Wednesday after clashes at a Paris train station overnight.

Local officials said the eight-hour long confrontation at the Gare du Nord was sparked when police arrested a 33-year old man who attacked staff who had asked him to show his ticket.

Who do the socialists think caused this?

Delphine Batho, a Socialist official responsible for security, said Sarkozy was to blame for the difficulties police encountered when making arrests.

"On the one hand, there are hardcore offenders who want to control their territory. Secondly, there are the after-effects of the provocative habits and language of the interior minister, which has worsened the tensions," she told Le Parisien daily.

Notice how the socialists are ready to surrender part of France to the rioters as "their territory". And then al-Reuters accidentally touches on part of the real cause:

Youths angry about poverty and discrimination torched thousands of cars in November 2005 in the ethnically-diverse suburbs surrounding French cities, where unemployment often is 4 to 5 times the national average.

That socialism is working out real good for you there. Much more of this and you can just shut down. This is why I say it is just a matter of time until France and most of the EU collapses economically.

Excepted from an e-mail newsletter from this website:

March 27 - Not All Americans Are Sleeping

I have just learned of some stats that are enormously encouraging. While theologians may be choosing to disregard teaching about Israel and the Middle East, Americans remain tuned into the issues. While apathy today may be rampant, two significant surveys reveal an America that cares about Middle East issues, and, more specifically, Israel-related issues.

A survey by the American Family Association recently asked, "Does strong support for Israel make you more or less likely to vote for a presidential candidate?" Over 70% said "much more likely." Over 17% said "somewhat more likely." So according to this poll, 87% of Americans will examine a candidate's position on America and Israel before they cast their ballot.

A March 25, 2007 poll carried out by McLaughlin and Associates, a major national polling agency, reveals Americans are opposed to the Middle East policies being implemented by the State Department and White House.

* By a margin of 2-to-1 (45% - 22%), Americans believe that a Palestinian Arab state would be a terrorist state rather than a peaceful democracy.

* By a margin of 5-to-1 (60% - 11%), Americans believe that Israel should not make more land giveaways to the Palestinians.

* By a margin of 10-to-1 (45% - 4%), Americans overwhelmingly support Israelis over the Palestinian Arabs.

* By a margin of more than 5-to-1 (65% - 11%), Americans believe that Saudi Arabia is not a reliable and trustworthy ally in the war against radical Islamic terrorism.

These polls make it clear that the American public fully understands Israel's difficult plight in dealing with the Arab war against it. Americans understand that establishing a Palestinian state would result in yet another terrorist state in the Middle East.

Americans have shown that they are completely against appeasing the Palestinian terror regime by offering any more concessions to it. The public has a far more realistic view of the Arab war against Israel than governments around the world, including America's leaders, who have continued to fund the Palestinian leadership despite their refusal to fulfill its obligations under signed agreements.

A vast majority of Americans also are opposed to appeasing terrorists according to the poll and see America appeasing the likes of Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas.

The poll indicates that we should stop all talk of establishing a Palestinian state as Americans understand that the Palestinian Arabs have not taken the minimum steps required to make peace and that likelihood is next to nonexistent.

ACTIVE TORNADO DAY IN TRADITIONAL WESTERN NEBRASKA TO WESTERN KANSAS (BUT MAYBE EAST OF LIBERAL) TO OK PANHANDLE AND WEST TEXAS TORNADO ALLEY!

SPC 6Z TORNADO RISK MAP

Below, the SPC morning discussion:

...SRN GREAT PLAINS...
FARTHER SOUTH...SEPARATION BETWEEN DRYLINE AND COLD FRONT MAY BE GREATER FROM SWRN KS ACROSS OK/TX. SITUATION APPEARS FAVORABLE FOR DRYLINE SUPERCELL INITIATION ACROSS THESE AREAS PRIOR TO COLD FRONT ADVANCING EAST AND MERGING WITH THE DRYLINE...MOST LIKELY AFTER DARK. HERE TOO...ENVIRONMENT APPEARS VERY SUPPORTIVE OF MYRIAD OF SEVERE WEATHER THREATS AS EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR INCREASES TO OVER 40KT ACROSS STRONGLY UNSTABLE AIR MASS CHARACTERIZED BY MLCAPE OF AT LEAST 2000 J/KG.

OTHER THAN CONFLUENCE ZONE NEAR THE DRYLINE...LACK OF STRONGLY DEFINED MESOSCALE BOUNDARIES IN THE WARM SECTOR SUGGEST CELLS MAY REMAIN DISCRETE IN NATURE AS EFFECTIVE SRH LOCALLY INCREASES TO OVER 300 M2/S2 THROUGH 00Z. SPC ANALOG SOUNDING SYSTEM REVEALS A FEW SIGNIFICANT TORNADO MATCHES BASED ON NAM-WRF FORECAST SOUNDINGS FROM NWRN TX/WRN OK VALID AROUND 00Z. PRESENT INDICATIONS BASED ON A VARIETY OF MODEL GUIDANCE SUGGEST MOST SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR A STRONG TORNADO OR TWO MAY EVOLVE IN A RELATIVELY NARROW CORRIDOR FROM NWRN TX TO SWRN KS THROUGH EARLY EVENING. PROXIMITY TO GREATER LOW LEVEL MOISTURE ACROSS SRN PARTS OF THIS AREA COULD SUPPORT A COUPLE OF LONGER-TRACK DANGEROUS STORMS. ADDITIONALLY...SPC HAIL MODEL BASED ON NAM-WRF INPUT SOUNDINGS GENERATES HAILSTONE DIAMETERS OF 1-3 INCHES ACROSS MUCH OF THE SRN PLAINS AREA WHERE STORM INITIATION IS ANTICIPATED LATER THIS AFTERNOON.

TENDENCY FOR STORM MERGERS AND INCREASING FORCING ALONG THE ADVANCING COLD FRONT WILL LEAD TO QLCS DEVELOPMENT AFTER DARK. SLOW EWD TRANSITION OF THE LARGE SCALE TROUGH BY THIS TIME SUGGESTS THAT CONVECTIVE SYSTEM WILL ALSO BE SLOW TO DEVELOP EWD. THIS MAY RESULT IN A CONTINUING THREAT FOR DAMAGING WINDS.... HAIL...AND HEAVY RAIN OVER THE SAME AREAS THROUGH LATE TONIGHT.

6Z WRF model for 4 pm CDT shows near 3000 Joules/Kg CAPE, 15 ms-1 deep layer shear (about 30 knots), backed low level winds, and storms just initiating near Cotton County, OK.

7 pm sounding for Wichita Falls shows almost 2000 Joules/Kg, 271 m2s-2 helicity, and a level of free convection of 766 meters.

If anything, forecast soundings for Clinton, OK look even better for tornadoes!

Looks like tomorrow's best tornadoa ction is slightly further East and South, with the best chance of potentially strong and long tracked tornadoes about 150 km either side of I-35 from near Denton all the way through Waco, Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio, Pearsall to Laredo.

That will be tomorrow's brightly colored and attractively formatted post.

As always, I recommend everyone bookmark the US water vapor imagery loop.

That is a cool upper low over the 4 corners, and one can see divergence aloft developing downstream already!

lioness shooting is very easy
something like throwing a ball
if you can toss a ball with intended aim
pretty much every time
you can shoot a group smaller than a pie plate
right off the bat
which is good enough to take out your target.

Now if you want to shoot groups the size of quarters, this takes practice ;~}

Also if you want to be very comfortable relaxed and natural with the weapon, this takes practice.

Senate sends a clear message to the terrorists, that they can count on the US Senate to aid and abet you and guarantee our defeat.

Senate backs troop withdrawal from Iraq

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Senate on Tuesday endorsed a March 31, 2008, target date for withdrawing American combat troops from Iraq, prompting the White House to threaten a veto and moving Congress a step closer to a showdown with President George W. Bush over the war.

By a vote of 50-48, the Senate defeated an amendment that would have stricken the withdrawal language from a $121.6 billion bill that mostly would fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But never fear. You can always count on our socialists in congress to step forward when needed:

In action unrelated to the Iraq war, the Senate attached to the spending bill a minimum wage hike for some of the lowest-paid U.S. workers

Jeez, these people disgust me.

Economics 101. Guns or butter. In this case, Guns or running streams of urine and feces overrunning your town.

There are consequences to spending your limited resources on things you don't need, but want. In this case, its little Ali choking to death on a turd floating by.

This cartoon so exactly and completely summarizes whats wrong with the fakestinians.

When EU bleeding hearts give them money for any purpose, do you think for a moment that it is spent where it should be? Of course not, they buy more guns.

When the US department of state arabists excuse their chosen peoples behavior, and toss a few tens of mil over the fence, they haven't any idea how much of this money goes into weapons and how much goes into fixing important problems.

Thats the rub. Given the opportunity to do the right thing or die trying, or kill jews, the fakestinians will always opt for killing jews. They have demonstrated a complete inability to care for themselves via a political or social process of any sort. They just wanna murder da jooooooooooooooos. Ali with a turd lodged in his throat? Doesn't affect them. Everyone else is aghast.

The fakestinians will continue to demand money of the world and try to hold the world's feet to a proverbial fire to get them money. But they haven't been spending their smuggled cash on real needs. There is money for things to kill jews with. Ali choking on a turd means he is a martyr.

This experiment in fakestinian self governance is over.

In Gaza, let Egypt rule them. In the west bank, joooooooooooos are Israeli, and arabs are jordanian. Arabs can stay if they are peaceful. They are expelled otherwise. The land is israels.

This way there will be no more Ali's choking to death from passing turds catching in their throat. This solves so many people's problems, all at once.

When there going to be a thread on the Lefts silence on Zimbabwe, its obvious since the US is against Mugabe despot.

Speaking of Zimabwe:

Zimbabwe opposition leader Tsvangirai arrested

HARARE (Reuters) - Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai was arrested with other members of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) on Wednesday after police stormed the party's headquarters, officials said.

Witnesses said armed riot police surrounded and then entered the building in downtown Harare where the MDC leadership had been due to hold a news conference.

"President Morgan Tsvangirai, who was scheduled to give a press conference on the escalating and systemic campaign of violence and intimidation undertaken by the (President Robert) Mugabe government in recent days, was among those taken away," the party said in a statement.

This won't bother the MSM and the left in America cause Mugabe is a communist. They have a love affair with socialist/communist totalitarians. If he was a free-market capitalist this would be all over the front apges. But then again, his economy would not be collapsing if he were a free market capitalist.

But I've tried a few of your burgers and steak houses.........including the $15.00 hamburger types.

Having said that, I got terrible news for you guys. To say that New York City or some place on the left coast has some of the best burgers on the planet is equivalent to saying the best French cuisine in the U.S. is found in Poteau, OK.

What would happen if LAPD killed 45 gang members?

BAGHDAD — Off-duty Shiite policemen enraged by massive bombings in the northern town of Tal Afar went on a revenge spree against Sunni residents there on Wednesday, killing at least 45 men, police and hospital officials said.

The policemen began roaming the town's Sunni neighborhoods on foot early in the morning, shooting at Sunni residents and homes.

A senior hospital official in Tal Afar said at least 45 men ages 15 to 60 were killed and four others were wounded.

Police said dozens of Sunnis were killed or wounded, but they had no precise figures. The shooting continued for more than two hours, the officials said.

Army troops later moved into the Sunni areas to stop the violence and a curfew was slapped on the entire town.

US Dairy regulations specify that for a product to be labeled "cheese" it has to be produced specifically from milk. There is such a thing as soy cheese, but it has to be labeled exactly that. The cheese I am speaking of are well known brands of "cheese" - so not soy, not "low fat", 100% animal.

True, if someone gets shot with a .22, are they going to get out a ruler and measure the size of the hole? No, they're gonna freak out and say, "I'm shot, I'm bleeding." If they keep coming, you shoot them again, and again. IMHO, a .22 is under rated for home safety. It also might just turn an accidental shooting into a less than fatal injury.

March 28, 2007 -- IT'S been a tough month for the British Navy. On March 7, it learned that Tony Blair's Labor government was going ahead with drastic cuts in its budget and number of ships. By this time next year, the once-vaunted Royal Navy will be about the size of the Belgian Navy, while its officers face a five-year moratorium on all promotions.

If that wasn't demoralizing enough, last Friday the Iranian Navy seized a patrol boat containing 15 British sailors and Marines, claiming they'd crossed into Iranian waters. They're now hostages and may well go on trial as spies.

The latest report is that the Britons were ready to fight off their abductors. Certainly their escorting ship, HMS Cornwall, could have blown the Iranian naval vessel out of the water. However, at the last minute the British Ministry of Defense ordered the Cornwall not to fire, and her captain and crew were forced to watch their shipmates led away into captivity.

There was a question whether the Blair government would end up leaving Britain with a navy too small to protect its shores. Now it seems to want a navy that can't even protect its own sailors.

For some time, Tony Blair has been trying to show that for all his support of President Bush, he is no warmonger. He has been a consistent "softliner" on Iran's nuclear program, supporting the Europeans' search for a diplomatic solution and repeatedly insisting that any military options be taken off the table.

Since January, the Blair government has broadcast its intentions of gutting the Royal Navy's surface fleet. At the same time, it also announced its plans for withdrawing 2,500 British troops from Iraq. The result? First, the Royal Navy is finished as a credible military force. Second, the British Army's redeployment from Basra has been widely interpreted as abandonment of the Iraq mission, rather than as moving on to Afghanistan after a job well done, as Blair insists.

And now the Iranians have hostages with which to wring more concessions from the British - including perhaps withdrawal of British vessels from the Coalition task force guarding the Persian Gulf.

The mullahs in Tehran clearly see the new pacifist trend in Britain not as a hopeful sign of future accord, but as supine surrender. Just as clearly, they have singled out Britain as the latest weak link in the Coalition fighting in Iraq and in the War on Terror.

If the Iranians can force Britain to join the other European powers on the sidelines in Iraq as well as in Afghanistan (where most NATO nations devote their time to finding excuses for not risking their soldiers' lives in combat), they will have virtually completed America's isolation from the rest of the world community. In effect, America's only reliable ally in Iraq and the War on Terror will be Australia - and a change of government there could well mean the loss of that ally, as well.

This will be a tragedy - but not for America. The United States has grown used to doing the fighting and dying the other industrialized democracies refuse to do in order to defend themselves and their interests. ...

Mom was also a better deer hunter right off the bat too. Dad and I would beat our selves up walking around in the woods all day and see exactly nothing. Mom would just walk down to the end of the sandy tote road going into our property, sit down under an old oak tree with a sandwich and a can of soda, and two hours later blammo. Once I started hunting like Mom did, I got deer too. Dad kept doing it his way and never even got off a shot in 15 years, then he quit in frustration.

I got some friends that live on Long Island. They used to entertain me on their corporate dole for doing "free" systems work courtesy of CITGO for them - it's the New York way. So were the 2nd row tickets to Beauty and the Beast when it was new. Lord only knows what that cost them.

We'd go to Luger's, Smith & Wollensky, Morton's, 4 Seasons, and some other famous others that charge $100.00 a plate and up in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The meal was fine but hardly memorable - except I did like the creamed spinach and the beer on tap at Luger's.

The boys from NY finally come to Tulsa, OK and it's my turn to treat on the corporate dole. They open up the menu and see the prices like $19.99 for a 24oz. ribeye that you don't even need a fork to eat and that comes with the baked potato, "real" vegetables and salad, homemade bread, etc... They about soil themselves thinking I've taken them to some dive.

About two hours later, we roll them out of the restaurant with them talking about the best steak they ever ate. Total bill for seven of us to eat - about $300.00 with tip and six drunk Yankees. I don't know how many empty beer bottles were on the table but it was embarrassing. Seems they took a liking to Shiner Bock. No fancy wines served here!

Greets and saluts from the warm and overcast NYC metro area. This C&F cartoon is right on the mark. Guns or butter, and the Palestinians choose guns every single time.

The British gov't meanwhile, has frozen all bilateral business between it and Iran. Oh, I'm sure that will hurt. Like a papercut perhaps, but it wont get the sailors released, and it certainly wont instill any fear in the mad mullahs who see nothing but weakness from the Brits. I've said it before, but restraint is often confused with weakness - and that's a bad place to be in.

The Democrats say that Bush must accept a timetable for defeat in Iraq. Why? Name the enemies the US is fighting in Iraq. Among them is al Qaeda. Who attacked us on 9/11? Al Qaeda. So why would the US cede a battleground where al Qaeda is fighting because of some nonsensical timetable that completely ignores facts on the ground, sends the wrong message to our allies and enemies, and generally serves no purpose except to invigorate the leftists and enemies of the US? Oh wait - partisan personal politics. Bush has to tell the Democrats - and those GOPers who jumped the shark - to get bent.

Elsewhere, the Gazans are still dealing with the cesspool mess - having brought in pumps through the Karni crossing to assist in the cleanup. They're going to meet on how to prevent this from occurring in the future.

That is less than completely polite, and, IIRC, many of the Romance languages call the Christian holiday celebrating (what we believe) is the Resurrection by a name derived for 'paschal'.

I will agree, the secular trappings of bunny rabbitts and eggs do suggest pagan fertility rites, but that is not part of the religious ceremony at all.

Speaking of good shots, one of the best I was ever with was a country gal. I would drive the Jeep out in the field and she would shoot rabbits with a 22. Do you know how hard it is to shoot moving rabbits with a small caliber rifle in a moving vehicle?

She'd shoot standing up in the back of the Jeep, sometimes holding on for dear life telling me I got to go faster if were going to get the "good" ones.

I wouldn't have wanted to get in a shooting contest with this her. Did I mention she also could fish for bass a lot better than I could? Now that pissed me off and damaged my manhood. She'd bitch at me I wasn't hitting the "honey" hole which I finally told her I couldn't do in a rocking boat. She'd laugh and cast to catch another big bass while I hung another lure in a tree.

The only real tomboy I ever dated - she was fun but I just couldn't see marrying her which is what she was proposing while I untangled my lure. I didn't have the nerve to tell her no to her face for fear I'd become one of the rabbits.

Rosie O'Donnell seized six British citizens after they allegedly cut her off in a line at the donut shop. " Sod off swampy!"; they allegedly said after she protested ;" Hey! No cuts!". The confrontation escalated and the five men and one woman were seized and taken to an undisclosed location. A spokesperson for O'Donnel said that the Britons are being well treated but under interrogation. O'Donnell believes that they were part of a direct provocation planned by the Bush Administration.

The animals easily read intent.
This is my theory anyway

Could be. It's like a flippin' barnyard walking through my yard at home, what with all the wild rabbits, squirrels, birds, geese and such that hage around cause my wife and daughters feed them, talk to them and take care of them. There is a robin that has nested on our back deck for the past two years, comes up to the back door every morning and taps on it with her beak to see my wife. The Mrs. goes out, feeds her and they have a nice visit. She talks to it and the bird chirps back. We got a big fat rabbit has nested under a pine tree in our front yard for a year. My wife actually talks to her also.

"There must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief,
"There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."

"No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke,
"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."

All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.

Elsewhere, the Gazans are still dealing with the cesspool mess - having brought in pumps through the Karni crossing to assist in the cleanup. They're going to meet on how to prevent this from occurring in the future.

Hey, here's a clue. Stop buying guns and bombs and start paying attention to infrastructure.

They knew the lake of raw sewage was getting higher and higher and was in danger of breaking free but did nothing. Here's another clue, TURN OFF THE WATER SUPPLY. Or take the water pressure down to 10 psi. About 90% plus of sewage is plain old tap water.

A catfight at The New York Times Friday still has staffers in shock.

The dustup between two female editors in the Styles department disrupted work on the Thursday and Sunday Styles sections as co-workers froze at the fracas.

Fashion editor Anita LeClerc was the aggressor and her superior, deputy editor Mary Ann Giordano, the victim, sources say.

The two had exchanged words just moments before, allegedly over turf, and LeClerc began stomping around the office, muttering loudly to herself. But when Giordano, a talented import from the Metro section, came over in a conciliatory way and tried to smooth things over, LeClerc made it physical.

"She shoved Mary Ann and pushed her, and Mary Ann said, 'Don't you touch me! Don't you touch me!'" says a source. "Mary Ann grabbed her wrists to try to stop her, and [LeClerc] just started flailing."

Top editor Trip Gabriel grabbed LeClerc and dragged the still-sputtering stylista into his office as Giordano followed.

"They were in there for a long time," reports a source. When they came out, Anita went back to her desk, but Mary Ann went out for a walk. She looked shaken."

The scrap at the newspaper could inspire jokes ("Pulitzers for Pugilism at the Black-and-Blue Lady?") but it's not funny, sources say. "Mary Ann is afraid now," says one. "She's a really nice woman, too. She keeps candy on her desk!"
That's why some at the respected broadsheet are baffled as to why no apparent disciplinary action has been taken against LeClerc. A Times spokeswoman did not answer questions about the slugfest, or disciplinary action, by deadline. Calls to LeClerc, Giordano and Gabriel were not returned.

Alls well at the nyt......Oh, and candy on your desk makes you nice? I'll have to try that.

327 nonic  Wed, Mar 28, 2007 4:21:25am

re those “flying imams”.............

Clerics' lawsuit threatens security of all passengers

[The imams’] lawsuit, filed earlier this month, accused the airline and Metropolitan Airports Commission of anti-Muslim bias. That was expected. What's unique and especially troubling, though, is the effort to identify an unknown number of passengers and airline employees who reported suspicions so they might also be included as defendants. For example, the imams want to know the names of an elderly couple who turned around "to watch" and then made cellphone calls, presumably to authorities, as the men prayed.

This legal tactic seems designed to intimidate passengers willing to do exactly what authorities have requested — say something about suspicious activity.

* * *

US Airways can afford to defend itself and the crew in court. Passengers who notified authorities don't have those resources. Several lawyers have promised to represent such passengers for free. The American Islamic Forum for Democracy, a moderate Muslim group, will raise funds for their defense. Rep. Steve Pearce, R-N.M., has introduced a bill to shield from legal liability those who report suspicious behavior.

It shouldn't have to come to that, especially if a judge has the wisdom to throw out the complaints against the "John Doe" passengers before they're identified.

Unfortunately, it is not only about “wisdom.” When a judge is asked to do something, such as dismiss a complaint, he/she must have a legal reason for doing so. That is what HR-1640 seeks to give to judges. Without such a law, a judge may not be able to throw out this type of intimidation.

A shield law is needed. Tell your representatives you want them to vote in support of HR-1640.

SEATTLE (AP) - Flowing hair and a precious smile have their rewards. Especially if you're Sanjaya Malakar, who is considered to be one of the weakest performers on "American Idol" but has a fan base that has helped him survive multiple rounds of viewer elimination.

In the online community and in Malakar's home state of Washington, the croaking crooner seems to have a loyal following of friends, family and fanatics who would like nothing better than to see him achieve the ultimate "Idol" success and be the last singer standing in May.

"I think he has a career ahead of him, whether he wins or not," said Pastor Pat Wright, a gospel choir director in Seattle who has known Malakar for five years.

Wright, who calls in weekly to vote for Malakar, acknowledges that much of his support likely comes from an online community of young fans enthralled with his chameleon hairdos and flashing grin.

"He's very handsome. That's most of it," she said. "He's a teenager, and young girls and guys really like him."

In recent weeks, the lanky teen from Federal Way - a city of about 84,000, 20 miles south of Seattle - has taken some hard hits from the public and all three judges on the Fox Television show.

Simon Cowell went so far as to say if Malakar wins, he'll quit. (-ed I think even Simon knows the show has jumped the shark.)

One YouTube contributor in New York has launched a hunger strike and vows not to eat until the 17-year-old is ousted from the show.

Identifying herself only as "J," the woman says she believes "other talented contestants" are being eliminated by those who think it "funny to try and sabotage American Idol by voting for a lesser contestant."

I don't have any cute cat pictures today; instead, I have a cat story (to keep us amused until Charles gets up).....

My cat, Hadassah, is an indoor cat. She never goes outside because she is front declawed and I won't let her. Because of my son's condition, he has a stander, which is a cool little torture device that has a tray at chest height. Hadassah loves to sit on the tray and look out the window. It's a favorite pastime, especially as the birds play outside.

Last night, she was on the tray and going absolutely nuts. She was trying to get to the window itself, reach and grabbing and trying to literally go through the glass. I could not figure out why; it was dark outside, so I really doubted that any birds were taunting her.

I got up to look, and what do I see but Stirling, the Russian Blue cat from next door, sitting on the porch rail with his eyes fixed on my cat. He's absolutely beautiful. No serenading, thank goodness, but he was very intent on her. Once he saw me, he skedaddled.

I think there may be romance blossoming. It is spring, after all.

A much larger problem was that the cesspool/sewage system was designed to handle 50,000, but was handling nearly 5x as many at the time of the failure. They've known for years that this was a disaster waiting, and did nothing. They'd been given the money to fix the problem, and did nothing - instead sought to blame Israel for the security situation despite the fact that it was Fatah and Hamas that were precipitating the security situation in the first place.

Thomas Sowell mentioned it in his column yesterday.

... Unfortunately for the Congressional Democrats, their left-wing supporters have taken the anti-war rhetoric of Pelosi, Murtha, et al., at face value and consider it a betrayal that they talk the talk but will not walk the walk.

It has been painfully clear that Speaker Pelosi was serious only about scoring political points. Her big grin when she won a narrow vote for a non-binding resolution was grotesque against the background of a life-and-death issue.

You don't grin over a political ploy that you have pulled when men's lives are at stake.

It is not just Congressional politicians who are so preoccupied with scoring points against the administration that they show no sign of concern for what the actual consequences of their words or actions will be for troops in the field, nations in the Middle East, or the global war on terror.

Much of the media is similarly caught up in scoring points on Iraq. For example, the cover of the March 18th issue of the New York Times magazine section featured a story about women in the military who said that they had been raped in Iraq.

A week later, they had to print a correction, after discovering that one of these women had not even been to Iraq. But any unsubstantiated charge against the American military rates headline coverage, even if there is no space for anything positive in Iraq.

There is apparently no space even to assess the extent to which the increase of American troop strength in Iraq has reduced the deaths of our troops from terrorist attacks. Nor is there apparently much space to discuss the implications of the return of Iraqis from the less violent provinces to their homes in Baghdad.

Indeed, there has apparently never been any space to discuss the fact that most provinces in Iraq have not had the levels of violence featured day in and day out in the media.

The demagoguery of the Democrats has already put them in the position where a successful conclusion of the Iraq war before the 2008 elections can be a political disaster for them.

If the recent increase in the number of troops in Iraq, and their freer hand in dealing with the terrorists there, reduces the level of violence enough to stabilize Iraq enough for American troops to start coming home before the 2008 elections, the Democrats will have lost their gamble.

Only an American defeat in Iraq can ensure the Democrats' political victory next year. Their only strategy is to sabotage the chances for a military victory in Iraq without being held responsible for a defeat. ...

Dangerous Demagoguery

Did you read the article? It's not quite that good......

In fact, just [just? just? --vx] 36% of Americans say that Gore knows what he is talking about when it comes to the environment and Global Warming. Thirty-one percent (31%) say he does not know what he is talking about while 33% are not sure. Women, by a 2-to-1 margin, say Gore knows what he is talking about. Men, by a similar margin, say he does not.

So the take in the article is that of course Gore really does know, but we stupid Americans can't realize that. And too many women think he has the goods.

By the way, did you see that Brad Delp of Boston died the other day? Another piece of my youth gone to the ages. Their big album came out my freshman year of college. That and Frampton Comes Alive were the two big ones that year. I got so tired of hearing all that I started playing the Lynyrd Skynyrd double live album for some variety. My favorite off of that one as actually a little known tune called "Needle and the Spoon". There was a junkie lived next door to me and he would get quite upset with me when I played it loud.

Chuck "Fredo" Hagel does it again...

Senate signals support for Iraq timeline

The effect of the timeline would be to "snatch defeat from the jaws of progress in Iraq," agreed Lieberman, who won a new term last fall in a three-way race after losing the Democratic nomination to an anti-war insurgent.

Bush had previously said he would veto any bill containing the timeline, and the White House freshened the threat a few hours before the vote on Tuesday. "This and other provisions would place freedom and democracy in Iraq at grave risk, embolden our enemies and undercut the administration's plan to develop the Iraqi economy," it said in a statement.

Similar legislation drew only 48 votes in the Senate earlier this month, but Democratic leaders made a change that persuaded Nebraska's Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson (news, bio, voting record) to swing behind the measure.

Additionally, Sen. Chuck Hagel (news, bio, voting record) of Nebraska, a vocal critic of the war, sided with the Democrats, assuring them of the majority they needed to turn back a challenge led by Sen. Thad Cochran (news, bio, voting record), R-Miss.

Have you seen this Rasmussen poll? Only 24 percent of Americans consider Al Gore an expert on global warming, 47 percent say he isn’t.
Hmm. Is the famous Gore effect about to kick in? You’ll recall that, as soon as Al decided that Howard Dean was an unstoppable force and announced he was endorsing him, Dean imploded, went berserk in Iowa, and that was that. Could it be that Gore is about to do to “climate change” what he did to the Dean campaign? Another week or two of Al’s proselytizing and that polar bear on the ice floe will be like Mad How in the New Hampshire primary – adrift and heading south and howling incoherently.

Howdy there.

Via Mark Steyn at NRO, we get this from the Daily Telegraph:

‘Dump your children here’ box to stop mothers killing their babies

Desperate mothers are being urged to drop their unwanted babies through hatches at hospitals in an effort to halt a spate of infanticides that has shocked Germany.

At least 23 babies have been killed so far this year, many of them beaten to death or strangled by their mothers before being dumped on wasteland and in dustbins.

Police investigating the murders are at a loss to explain the sudden surge in such cases, which have involved mothers of all ages all over the country.

Now city councils have launched an advertising campaign to highlight the problem and to promote greater use of the Baby-Klappe hatches that allow women to drop off their babies to be found and cared for without having to give their names...

The drop-off point is usually hidden from view, shielded by trees and away from security cameras. The baby is put on to a tray that slides through a hole in the wall and is gently lowered into a heated cot. An alarm bell alerts nursing staff — but only after the mother has been given sufficient time to make a getaway. The baby can be reclaimed, usually up to three months later, should the mother change her mind.

O wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is!
O brave new world,
That has such people in't!

Federal law specifies 18 inches for a shotgun barrel. The extra 1/8" (or usually 1/2 inch) is just to be "safe".

In many states you can legally own a shotgun less than 18 inches in barrel length, but it requires a special federal permit and a lot of paperwork. No point in bothering for the average schmoe.

Advantage of a short barrel isn't so much increased spread of the pellets (at indoor type distances of under 25 feet it makes almost no difference if the barrel is 18 or the more usual 26-30 inches long), it just creates a ligher and more maneuvarable gun. Short barrels also mean a more concealable gun, which is why super-short ones are illegal.

Also the concept of "you don't have to aim it" is bogus. You *always* have to make sure the barrel is pointed at your target, (even with a short barrel), its just that at really close ranges precise aim isnt important.

When mounted properly, a well-fitted shotgun (this has to do with stock length, shape, and length of pull to the trigger) will automatically point towards whereever the shooter is looking. That coupled with the "spray" effect of multiple small pellets being fired at once mean that precise aiming isn't necessary.

442 Ayatollah Ghilmeini  Wed, Mar 28, 2007 5:13:22am

Day 5

The British MOD has released the coordinates of the kidnapping. You can believe Iran or the Brits. Since Iran denies the holocaust and is pursuing nuclear weapons, I believe the British.

The Iranians are already playing their games: their embassy in Britain is expressing endless amounts of statements of moderation and "fast release," meanwhile the radical students are putting the soldiers on mock trial for their crimes using the principles of Islamic jurisprudence (the soldiers are guilty untermentschen non-Muslims so let's just move to the penalty phase).

For those who remember 1979, this is an exact replay. The hostages sat and rotted for months. A few month's back I finished reading "Guests of the Ayatollahs," I did not expect it to be a prologue for events coming in 2007 but the similarities in Iran's conduct is striking.

There the real contrast is the response of the Western leaders. Jimmy Carter is not in power. Blair and Bush are. Blair is being strenuous in demanding immediate release and Bush is saying nothing but allowing one of the mightiest armadas the world has ever seen is conducting huge wargames in event of hostilities. We even have the French aircraft carrier De Gaulle to help out. Iran's leaders will try to draw out negotiations endlessly; they are buying time, it was the whole reason they seized the hostages in the first place.

Only they know the exact timetables of the bomb program but they are close enough or their internal situation is dire enough that drastic steps were needed to buy time.

Time is the one thing that Bush and Blair must not give these criminals. The sooner they give Iran an ultimatum on the sailors the better. Free our people or the blockade starts. Pushing up the pressure sets the stage for the Iranians escalating things, the hostages will be dispersed and well guarded (the Iranians know rescue is contemplated), the fate of the hostages is entirely in the regime's hands.

Bush and Blair will not allow the hostages to protect Iran, they are prepared to tell the Ayatollahs something the Clerics didn't plan on hearing: "we are prepared to lose 15 men, are you prepared for regime change?"

Expect a blockade any day now; a contemporaneous tragic disabling accident at Iran's single gas refinery is a very strong likelihood.

The hostages will be released in a few days or, probably late next week, things will get really hot for Tehran's terrorist leadership.

Freedom.

The facts are that the Brits were in Iraqi waters and the Iranians are lying their asses off.

Music education is a complete education and there are too many tests and studies that show that students who participate in music regularly do much better in all their studies. It is considered a core subject in No Child Left Behind, but sadly there are many a philistine who considers music a waste of time. The city of Baltimore abolished all music classes to their detriment, and then two years ago realized their mistake and hired a whole district full of music teachers.

Yemen shoots down foreign drone -official

The Akhbar al-Yawm daily, which has close links to the government, reported that the unmanned plane was Iranian.

"Security sources confirmed that the drone that was brought down in Hadramout belongs to the Islamic Republic of Iran," the newspaper said on its front page.

Iran to Yemen is a long way for a drone (though not impossible) but this is likely related to Iranian support for Yemeni Shiite rebels, as noted in the article.

I definitely concur with l.c. that you have to at the very least point the barrel, even with a relatively short-barrelled shotgun. The Hollywood version of "I can't miss with this thing" is crap. There is, though, a debate between the "aim and fire" vs. "point and shoot" schools of thought in home defense. I tend to like the former, which advocates taking the extra fraction of a second to take an aimed shot.

The Terrorist Cheer Squad In Action

The David Hicks guilty plea can easily be understood: He was brutally tortured to make his confession. The American government is the source of all evil in the world. It is the real terrorist organisation. Hicks was just a good Aussie kid on an adventure. Shame America Shame.

Now that doesn’t happen to be my version of events. But if you simply read the op ed pages or the letters’ pages of our leftist media (the Melbourne Age will do), that is the clear message being presented. The terrorist cheer squad is working overtime to turn Hicks into a national hero, a national living treasure.

Of course they have it wrong on just about everything. All those claims, for example, about how frail, skinny and gaunt Hicks was were blown out of the water when he appeared in the courtroom looking more like one of the teletubbies than some starved detainee.

But the America-is-always-wrong-and terrorists-must-be-excused crowd still insist he is innocent, and the Western nations are the real terrorists.

But the truth is, Hicks himself has said enough about his activities to dispel these notions. As Victorian Liberal MP Bernie Finn put it recently: “I must offer a word of caution to those seeking to elevate Hicks to national hero status. David Hicks was not in Afghanistan to judge the Kabul beach babe contest. He was there fighting for one of the most oppressive regimes on earth, which is and was a supporter and promoter of terrorism both locally and internationally. He was there in Afghanistan to kill Australians and its allies. To those who say give David Hicks a fair go, I say give our Aussie military a fair go.”

I'm reading T. E. Lawrence's "Seven Pillars of Wisdom", his account of the Arab Revolt against the Turks in WWI. I was struck today by his description of an attack on a Turkish train. After mining the track and blowing up the engine, the Arab tribesmen couldn't wait to get to the train wreck and loot as much as they could carry. Some, in their mad haste to loot, even ran in front of the machine gun which the sole Australian soldier was using to strafe the Turkish soldiers who were shooting back. In the mellee the Arabs robbed even their own dead and ran off with all the camels loaded with their booty. Lawrence described the hysterical giddiness of the mobs, nearly orgasmic over the looting. In the consequence, all 150 Arabs left the scene and Lawrence, the Australian and a Scotsman, the only non-Arabs in their party, had to pack up the machine guns, the detonator & the wire cable and run off before the Turkish patrol arrived.

Anybody who thinks Rumsfeld is to blame for the looting of Bahgdad needs to read that chapter to understand the Arab mentality towards looting.

Looting. It's what they do.

This was voted on last night. From Michelle Malkin (and many other web sites):

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Bill Shuster released the following statement upon passage of a Republican motion to make important changes to H.R. 1401, the Rail and Public Transportation Security Act of 2007 passed the House.

The motion contained language to protect Americans from intimidation and frivolous lawsuits by giving them legal immunity as a result of reporting suspicious terrorism-related activity overwhelmingly passed the House 304 to 121:

"This is a big victory for all Americans," Shuster said. "No American should ever be sued because they tried to stop a terrorist act. No American should be forced to second guess a decision to alert authorities that could save the lives of others. Unfortunately, the recent lawsuit filed by the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) seeks to do just that."

A summary of the Republican Motion to Recommit follows:

The Republican motion to recommit H.R. 1401, the Rail and Public Transportation Security Act of 2007, provides that any person who makes a voluntary disclosure regarding suspicious activity that constitutes a possible threat to transportation security to appropriate security and law enforcement authorities shall be immune from civil liability for such disclosure.
The amendment protects any such disclosure relating to threats to transportation systems, passenger safety or security, or possible acts of terrorism.

The amendment also shields transportation systems and employees that take reasonable actions to mitigate perceived threats.

The amendment is retroactive to activities that took place on or after November 20, 2006 - the date of the Minneapolis incident involving six Islamic leaders who were removed from a U.S. Airways flight after they were observed acting suspiciously.

Finally, the motion authorizes courts to award attorneys fees to defendants with immunity.

What is despicable is that 121 Dems voted against it. Dhimmis, indeed!

Essentially the same gun at half the price or less, (and not German made, if that means anything).

In this class of gun, the Sig-Sauer 232 is even better, but its quite pricey.

I say skip them all and go for the old tried-and-true .38 snubnose revolver. More reliable, more powerful, a greater variety of ammo to use, easier to learn how to use and clean.

it is better than a 22, and really, any of them are lethal...

but if someone is coming at me with a knife or a gun, I don't want to KNOW that I have to shoot them many times to stop them (especially if they're hopped up on drugs)

average gunfight, historically, is 1.9 to 2.6 shots.

unlike the movies, when you shoot them, they don't fly back, and often don't drop, but still come at you, requiring another shot.

since the average gunfight is at 21 feet or less, you don't have alot of time to put them down before they stab you.

If there's a coked-up large human coming at you from 15 feet away with a knife, you don't have time to put a dozen small rounds into him.

That's why I like the .45. The rounds are subsonic and tend to transfer more energy into the target. Not only does the bullet do damage, it's likely it will knock you down if it hits you...

There are a number of metaphors and lessons there. If it were up to the Arabs, the sewage would gravity drain to the sea untreated, and that would be that. But those pesky Jews built that unnecessary sewage treatment plant, which is like those unnecessary greenhouses; something to be raided for parts and material. It just never occurred to them that they need to empty the sewage out of it first, and reroute the raw sewage out into the sea like in the good old days.

What can I say?

Uh, one last post:

Dems: Bush Must Accept Iraq Timetable

WASHINGTON - Congressional Democrats are showing no signs of backing down on their rebuke of the Iraq war, insisting President Bush will have to accept some sort of legislative timetable in exchange for the billions of dollars needed to fund the war.

"We would hope that the president understands how serious we are," said Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., after the Senate voted to uphold a proposal in a war spending bill calling for the troop withdrawal.

With the Senate resuming debate on the $122 billion bill Wednesday, President Bush reminded lawmakers their move will not prompt him to negotiate, but to veto any funding legislation that includes a deadline for withdrawal.

"Members of Congress need to stop making political statements, start providing vital funds for our troops and get a bill to my desk that I can sign into law," Bush was expected to say in a speech at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association meeting in Washington. Excerpts were released in advance by the White House. "If Congress fails to pass a bill to fund our troops on the front lines, the American people will know who to hold responsible."

But Reid and other Democrats say they won't back down.

"Rather than making all the threats that he has, let's work with him and see if he can give us some ideas how we can satisfy the wishes of a majority of the Senate, the majority of the House and move forward," Reid said.

The bill finances operations in Iraq and Afghanistan but requires Bush begin bringing home some combat troops right away with a nonbinding goal of ending combat missions as of March 31, 2008.

Wait. This is not legislation. This is a motion (which is essentially a request) to change the language of a bill (which is a potential law).

passage of a Republican motion to make important changes to H.R. 1401, the Rail and Public Transportation Security Act of 2007

It doesn't say there that the bill has been voted on -- only that the shield wording would be added to the bill.

This is not the same thing at all.

Saudi Ultimatum to Israel:
Accept Saudi peace plan or face war.

The "lords of war" will decide Israel's future if it rejects a blueprint for peace crafted by the entire Arab world, Saudi Arabia's veteran foreign minister warned yesterday.

As leaders began gathering in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, for today's summit of the Arab League, Prince Saud al-Faisal told The Daily Telegraph that the Middle East risks perpetual conflict if the peace plan fails.

Under this Saudi-drafted proposal, every Arab country would formally recognise Israel in return for a withdrawal from all the land captured in the war of 1967.

This would entail a Palestinian state embracing the entire West Bank and Gaza with East Jerusalem as its capital. Every Arab country will almost certainly endorse this blueprint when the Riyadh summit concludes tomorrow. Prince Saud said Israel should accept or reject this final offer.

If Israel refuses, that means it doesn't want peace and it places everything back into the hands of fate. They will be putting their future not in the hands of the peacemakers but in the hands of the lords of war," he said.

Prince Saud dismissed any further diplomatic overtures towards Israel. "It has never been proven that reaching out to Israel achieves anything," he said.

"Other Arab countries have recognised Israel and what has that achieved? [they got back the land they lost in aggressive warfare --ed]

And quietly buried more than half way down:

Israel has numerous reservations about the Arab peace plan - which was previously proposed at a summit in 2002. Israel fears any hint that Palestinian refugees would have the right to return to their homes in the event of a peace settlement.

Let's rephrase that. The Saudi plan includes insistence on the "right of return." The Arab demand that "Palestinian refugees" have the "right" of return to Israel on top of a presumed Palestinian state would result in the demographic annihilation of the Jewish state of Israel.

My response would be a very undiplomatic F**K YOU.

I would take my chances with war-- and I'm pretty sure Israel will too. (Olmert, not so sure.)

I know it would probably lead to a constitutional crisis, but with the fact that Congress is looking to go on its spring break (not like there aren't pressing issues to attend to) before they could pass a clean bill without the pork or timetables - and given that the DoD needs the appropriations before then, this might be the only option as a veto would put everything back to square one, and potentially play into the Leftists' hands.

Of course... but as noted above, counting on exceptional shot placement under combat stress is a very risky thing. Most self-defense schools train you to shoot for center mass, because that optimizes being able to hit your target in a way that will cause sufficiently traumatic wounds to stop the attacker. It would be very hard to really put one "between the eyes" of an attacker rushing at you, unless you're Annie Oakley.

Either one or both.

H.R. 1401
H.R. 1640

Actually, since 1640 has no other topics, it should be able to be scheduled and voted on a lot faster than a comprehensive transportation security bill (1401).

579 Ayatollah Ghilmeini  Wed, Mar 28, 2007 6:12:25am

Bush will take the war authorization bill and veto it.

The bill is a disgrace, the surge is working attacks are down, casualties are down and Iran is feeling the heat.

I appreciate that the anti-war faction of the Dem are pushing for immediate surrender but it is bad politics for the Dems. America does not like losers. They can honestly say the forced the administration to pull its head out of its butt and pacify Iraq; one day (hopefully not in my lifetime), there may be a Democratic president and they may be faced with a war situation and will not want to have their hands tied by Congress, there is a notion of polity that is critical for the democratic process, a Bush veto and demand for a clean bill without pork or capitulation is the only right thing. The best thing the Democrats can and should do is take the veto and inform the President of baseline milestones in Iraq that, if not met will lead to defunding. This is fair to the troops (why make them fight a fight without progress or end), fair democrats' constituents fair to a President who does not need to be micromanaged but can and must be held accountable.

The idea originated in India, I think, where the government implemented such a program to protect infant girls from sex-selective abortion and infanticide. There it's called the "Cradle Baby Scheme".

China also has a huge problem with sex-selective abortion, and I think some projects like this have been tried there as well. As you may know, people in the West have been adopting "orphan" Chinese girls for some time (the overwhelming majority of babies abandoned or put up for adoption in China are girls).

Nope, you hit the essential points!

Typical Arab approach (the Syrians use same with Golan Heights): agree to ALL our demands in advance, and then we will "negotiate" what we will give you in exchange.

As I said in the Lounge the other day, when's the last time you walked into a store and the manager says, "Give me $1000 now, and then I'll tell you what I'm willing to give you for it"!

Dennis Ross has a less cynical take in an article in today's Financial Times but he remains way more optimistic than most of us here.

Conflicts are rarely solved by one side making all the concessions before it sees what it gets in return.
...
[T]he League is only conceding Israel's existence - useful, but hardly a breakthrough.
...
What can be done now? First, the US should broker a comprehensive ceasefire between Mr Olmert and Mr Abbas. In return for an end to attacks against Israelis and the cessation of Hamas' smuggling and arms build-up, the Israelis would stop incursions, arrests and targeted killings. Mr Abbas would have to deliver Hamas and Hamas would have to enforce, not merely observe, the ceasefire.

Good luck with that.

The idea originated in India, I think

According to the Telegraph article linked to above, the idea goes back to medieval Europe (at least), where the church would condone "foundlings" being left on the church doorstep. Of course, the people doing that at the time were probably truly "desperate" peasants who could not afford to feed the baby. 21st century German mothers have no such excuse.

Maybe I need to rephrase. For some weird reason, our culture has taken a dim view of adoption in the past several decades. I have my suspicions why, but regardless, we need to view it as a positive thing. Not the most ideal of circumstances, but nothing to be shunned, either. Whether it's an anonymous drop-off, or a more conventional process, it's a positive thing. I don't understand why that's not obvious.

We didn't used to look down our noses at adoption 50 years ago. We need to ask ourselves what's changed and why.

575 OR

(Please note by the way that I do NOT purport to be a gunfighting expert, I'm just passing along what I've been taught and what I've read)

that goes doubly for me.

Charles knows.

It was a massive heart attack, he never saw it coming.

Thank you for posting such sad news. Obi-wan will be missed for his insight & his humour. We have all lost a friend.

It was a massive heart attack, he never saw it coming.

There is a blessing in that. It's a shock to his family, but so much better than being infirm.

Remember ObiWan's parting words every time he left the thread:
"Later, lizards. Play nice."

I always loved that.

placement is key, but under the stress of such a situation, you'er fighting panic, and trying to steady your hand as adrenaline is coursing through your veins.

and, if they're hopped up on drugs, they'll still come at you until their mind realizes that they're dead.

As my instructor says...practice, practice, practice! I'm pretty good with both the .40 and the .380. I'm going to ask if I shouldn't probably be carrying the .40 (but it is a lot bigger than the .380).

/off to a business lunch.

{Obi-Wan} - you will be in our hearts forever.

You will be missed more than you could ever know.

God bless, my dear friend. May His love comfort your family during this incredibly sad time.

617 realwest  Wed, Mar 28, 2007 6:36:09am

I can hardly believe this news. Obi-wan was a dear, dear friend. We've just spoken to his wife to offer our condolences and help.
I'm in too much of a state of shock to say anything other than we have lost a great man and a great friend.
Rest in Peace, my friend.

618 BabbaZee  Wed, Mar 28, 2007 6:36:36am

I'll go post a link to the news on the upper thread.

619 gettinby  Wed, Mar 28, 2007 6:36:43am

Prayers to your family. This is worse than sad...

620 LanceKates  Wed, Mar 28, 2007 6:36:51am

621 luzbone  Wed, Mar 28, 2007 6:36:55am

Later Obi-Wan.

Play nice…

Ben Hur - if you're still here could you email me please? I have a message for you from another LGF poster :-)

News from Thailand

Panda porn

CHUANG Chuang the panda has been spending his days in front of a television watching panda porn.
Authorities at the Chiang Mai Zoo in northern Thailand hope the images will encourage him to mate with his partner, Lin Hui, and serve as an instructional lesson in how to do it right.

So far, it's been a tough sell, the zoo's chief veterinarian, Kanika Limtrakul, said today.

“Chuang Chuang seems indifferent to the videos, he has no reaction to what he's seeing on TV,” Kanika said. “But, we're continuing to show him videos and hoping they will leave an impression.”

I can just imagine it....

Very
Sad
News.
We have lost a Lizard.
LGF poster Obi-Wan passed away yesterday.

Hi, Babba. I haven't posted in a long while due to time commitments, but I just wanted to say hello, and say how sorry I am that you've lost a friend. I always remembered him as a good fellow. May G-d watch over and protect his soul. Love, always.

624 Canadian Infidel  Wed, Mar 28, 2007 6:39:52am

God bless him and his family.

May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God,
who is mightier than all the hosts of Satan,
and more glorious than all the angels of Heaven,
abide with you in your going out and your coming in;
by day and by night; at morning and evening;
and in the hour of your death.

May the loving arms of God the Father open wide
as He rushes towards you and ushers you into
your new and eternal home.

God bless you, dear friend Obi-wan, and may He give comfort to your family in their grief.

Blessed be the name of the Lord - Amen.

Obi-Wan

I'll be with you when the deal goes down

In the still of the night, in the world's ancient light
Where wisdom grows up in strife
My bewildered brain, toils in vain
Through the darkness on the pathways of life
Each invisible prayer is like a cloud in the air
Tomorrow keeps turning around
We live and we die, we know not why
But I'll be with you when the deal goes down

We eat and we drink, we feel and we think
Far down the street we stray
I laugh and I cry and I'm haunted by
Things I never meant nor wished to say
The midnight rain follows the train
We all wear the same thorny crown
Soul to soul, our shadows roll
And I'll be with you when the deal goes down

Well, the moon gives light and it shines by night
When I scarcely feel the glow

We learn to live and then we forgive
O'r the road we're bound to go
More frailer than the flowers, these precious hours
That keep us so tightly bound
You come to my eyes like a vision from the skies
And I'll be with you when the deal goes down

Well, I picked up a rose and it poked through my clothes
I followed the winding stream
I heard the deafening noise, I felt transient joys
I know they're not what they seem
In this earthly domain, full of disappointment and pain
You'll never see me frown
I owe my heart to you, and that's sayin' it true
And I'll be with you when the deal goes down

Re: the Walther .380, caveat emptor. I test fired a few of them and another couple of brands before buying a 'pocket gun'. The Walthers were the worst of the lot when it came to accuracy, AND at about 15-20 feet the round (multipe brands, new and reload) would tear paper sideways. The rounds were clearly tumbling, and would likely only knock the wind out of an attacker in the normal fight zone.

The best of the lot was a less expensive Kel-Tec .380. Accurate and no tumbling on two guns, new and 2-3 y.o. used.

I didn't try Browning's, but I've heard good things.

Cox and Forkum should put out a book with all their best stuff (Which would be all of their stuff) in it. They humiliate terrorists and moonbats in a brutal and entertaining fashion.

Funny. (Linky is to their 3rd book.)

LGF went down for a while

Obi-wan is gone - he'll be missed by all of us who hang around the dead thread - just can't believe it - he' was just the best

Goodnight all -

634 captkirk35  Wed, Mar 28, 2007 1:50:07pm

Something snapped in me today. I've reached the end of my tolerance level with these guys and their ways.

This must stop before our way of life is ruined.. I truly believe that our world is a fragile place. We sleep walk through our days, focused on the "bigger" things, like our families and jobs. But all along the Left never stops chasing its agenda.

Like many of you, every day I shake my head and wonder how far it can go, always thinking that, at some point, the adults would step in and call them on their delirium.

In the beginning it was all so absurd.. surely rational people would see the moronic nature of it all... can they really get away with saying that? Surely no politician would take up their cause... it would be political suicide. But finally, the Left and its agenda have won out, and here we are running in shame like the newly reformed racist who finally see's the errors of his ways. Well, I happen to think we are seeing are most noble of days! And I tired of the antics.

I'm ready to take action!
