Big Fish Was 7/7 Mastermind

Fri, Apr 27, 2007 at 5:05:40 pm PDT

As noted earlier today, the Pentagon announced the capture of an important Al Qaeda leader, Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi. Tonight the Times Online reports that al-Iraqi is believed to be the mastermind behind the 7/7 bombings in London.

The al-Qaeda leader who is thought to have devised the plan for the July 7 suicide bombings in London and an array of terrorist plots against Britain has been captured by the Americans.

Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi, a former major in Saddam Hussein’s army, was apprehended as he tried to enter Iraq from Iran and was transferred this week to the “high-value detainee programme” at Guantanamo Bay.

Abd al-Hadi was taken into CIA custody last year, it emerged from US intelligence sources yesterday, in a move which suggests that he was interrogated for months in a “ghost prison” before being transferred to the internment camp in Cuba.

Abd al-Hadi, 45, was regarded as one of al-Qaeda’s most experienced, most intelligent and most ruthless commanders. Senior counter-terrorism sources told The Times that he was the man who, in 2003, identified Britain as the key battleground for exporting al-Qaeda’s holy war to Europe.

Abd al-Hadi recognised the potential for turning young Muslim radicals from Britain who wanted to become mujahidin in Afghanistan or Iraq into terrorists who could carry out attacks in their home country. He realised that their knowledge of Britain, possession of British passports and natural command of English made them ideal recruits. After al-Qaeda restructured its operations in Pakistan’s tribal areas he sought out young Britons for instruction at training camps. In late 2004 Abd al-Hadi met Mohammad Sidique Khan and Shehzad Tanweer, from Leeds, at a militant camp in Pakistan and, in the words of a senior investigator, “retasked them” to become suicide bombers.

They were sent back to Britain where they led the terrorist cell that carried out the 7/7 bombings, killing 52 Tube and bus passengers.

A major in Saddam's army huh?

Of course, we all know that Saddam had no connections to terrorism. None at all.

Saddam's connections to Abu Nidal, Abu Abbas, Abdul Yasin, and Abu Zarqawi have all been conveniently ignored. I wonder how many news outlets will not mention the Iraqi Army background.

So the obvious question: what are they trying to distract from? As MLDB said, it's Friday, so perhaps a big embarrassing doc dump tonight? Or something else?

So let me get this straight, a former Major in Saddam's army is a top Al Quada leader? When did he join?

If he had these associations before the invasion it kind of puts a turd in the liberal's punchbowl regarding their assertion that Saddam was as pure as the driven snow as far as terrorism and Al Quada were concerned.

April 27, 2007: There is now evidence that backs the Marines charged with killing civilians at Haditha in Iraq. Actually there isn't. There's even a "pre-loaded" ready to launch conspiracy theory about the capture of Osama Ben Laden when and if it happens. They had prepaired for him to be "captured" (with quotations) before the last elections, with the implication that he's been in Bush's tool shed all this time waiting for the right moment to show him off. If they were to get him today, Hillary Clinton would officially "question the timing" of the capture coming so close to: (insert latest political event here).

We will need to wait and see how it plays out and with "Give 'Em Hell Murtha" pushing the prosecution against his own, he claims to have been a Marine.

He realised that their knowledge of Britain, possession of British passports and natural command of English made them ideal recruits.

It is the capability for terrorism that drives the terrorist jihad.

On the other hand, the British political class thought that if the jihadists had sufficient capability in Britain and if Britain pursued a laissez faire attitude toward the jihadists, the terrorist jihadists wouldn't want to carry out terrorism in Britain.
They would plot in Britain, raise funds in Britain, recruit jihadis in Britain, but they would presumably carry out their plots elsewhere in the world.

By ignoring capabilities, those who thought this way were taking a high-risk gamble; and they were wrong. Whoever ignores capabilities is playing with fire.

We went through one hell of a "drawn down" during that time because afterall we didn't have any enemies.

our being in Iraq is causing more violence than would normally happen in Iraq if we were sitting and waiting in our own military installations in the U.S.

We caused that man to become a psychopathic murderer. Our presence in his country forced him to recruit and convince two youts that they needed to blow themselves up and kill as many people as they could in Britain.

In the words of Col. Kurtz:
I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror. Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies. I remember when I was with Special Forces. Seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate the children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for Polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. And I remember... I... I... I cried. I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that. The genius. The will to do that. Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not monsters. These were men... trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love... but they had the strength... the strength... to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us.

Well, when we've wrung ouy of this Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi SOB everything we can wring out of him, let's turn him over to the Brits for this treatment: they used to know what to do with people like him. They need to do it again. Tourists would come just to see, and it would boost the economy.

I'm not kidding!
