Slightly OT:

Three guys -- a Canadian farmer, Osama bin Laden, and an American engineer are walking together one day.

They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it." I will give each of you one wish, which is three wishes total" says the Genie.

The Canadian says, "I am a farmer, my dad was a farmer, and my son will also farm.

I want the land to be forever fertile in Canada."

Pooooof! With a blink of the Genie's eye, the land in Canada was forever made fertile for farming.

Osama bin Laden was amazed, so he said, "I want an impenetrable wall around Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran with all believers of Mohammad inside and all Jews, Christians, and other infidels forever outside our precious state."

Pooooof! Again, with the blink of the Genie's eye, there was a huge wall around those countries.

The American engineer asks, "I am very curious. Please tell me more about this wall."

The Genie explains, "Well, it is 5,000 feet high, 500 feet thick and completely surrounds these countries.....it's virtually impenetrable.

Now what is your wish?"

The American engineer smiles and says, "Fill it with water."

Pooooof!

WORLD PEACE!

This video is of Salahuddin Amin, one of the five Britons, some said to have links to al Qaeda, who were found guilty on Monday of plotting to carry out bomb attacks across Britain using ammonium nitrate fertilizer. This is footage of Amin's interrogation by London police in 2005.

Hezbollah: Winograd report is proof we were victorious

Hezbollah on Monday hailed a report into the Second Lebanon War, which accused the Israeli leadership of serious failures during the conflict, calling it proof that the guerilla group had been "victorious" in the summer fighting.

The 34-day war was triggered by a July 12 Hezbollah cross-border attack in which two Israel Defense Forces soldiers were abducted and eight others killed.

"The Winograd report stressed that Hezbollah was victorious and that Israel is beatable," a senior spokesman for the Iranian-backed group told the organization's Al-Manar television channel.

"The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 was a failed attempt by a group of provincial English Catholics to kill King James I of England, his family, and most of the Protestant aristocracy in a single attack by blowing up the Houses of Parliament during the State Opening. The conspirators had then planned to abduct the royal children, (who were Protestant) not present in Parliament, and incite a revolt in the Midlands."

Sorry, but this HUGE for overburdened LEO's
Court rules police can't be sued in high-speed chase
[Link: news.yahoo.com...]

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Monday that a police officer cannot be held liable for ramming a fleeing car during a high-speed chase, forcing the vehicle off the road and resulting in severe injury or even death for the driver.

By an 8-1 vote, the high court ruled the officer's conduct reasonable because the car chase initiated by the suspect posed a substantial and immediate risk of serious physical injury to others.

Justice Antonin Scalia said for the majority that an officer's attempt to end a dangerous high-speed car chase that threatened the lives of innocent bystanders did not violate the Constitution, even if it placed the fleeing motorist at risk of serious injury or death.

He said a police video of the incident "resembles a Hollywood-style car chase of the most frightening sort."

The Supreme Court took the unusual step of putting the video on its Web site, along with the ruling in the case involving a sheriff's deputy from Coweta County in Georgia. ([Link: www.supremecourtus.gov...] b).

Scalia said the video contradicted the suspect's version of events that pedestrians or other motorists faced little or no threat during the chase.

Of the nine Supreme Court members, only Justice John Paul Stevens dissented [agreeing with the ACLU]. He said less drastic measures, like using a device to flatten Harris' tires slowly, could have avoided "such a tragic result" that made Harris a quadriplegic.

And Assad predicts that US vision for the Middle East is doomed to failure. Well, considering that he'd be one of the beneficiaries of the failure of the US policy, you can take it to the bank that he's doing everything imaginable to make that a reality. However, he's getting help - from the likes of Pelosi et al who think that the US should be talking to Assad. This runs counter to everything we know about Assad and the other dictators in the region that do nothing but destabilize Lebanon and Iraq along with support terrorist groups throughout the region.

What now? Three hots, a cot, and a Koran to be mishandled? Aside from the obvious - these were Muslim terrorists - how does this shape anti-terror politics in the future? Here's the juice: it won't.

We've been bagging bad guys since the get-go, always the latest and greatest, yet our country donates money to terrorist sponsors and is going to be hosting al-Jazeera TV. We have mosques and visiting speakers entering our country spewing hate speech by the bucket.

Anymore, I don't give a rat's ass how many bad guys we capture, or the UK captures, or anyone warehouses. I'm concerned about re-shaping the political climate to pointedly show what awful bastards they are, and make killing them - not warehousing them like a butterfly collection - goal number 1. I want the hateful inmans run out on rails, and I don't want another nickel of American money funding terrorist assholes by way of the gaping political back door.

I'm so glad to see you here tonight for I have a question concerning pet feeding you might kindly answer.

I've removed all soft foods for Lil Miss and she's now fed lean beef cooked in low sodium beef boullion, I add brown rice and fresh veggies (carrots, peas, green beans), and mix about 2 tblsp of this with a small handful of good kibble.

It's been about a month, her fur gleams, when she makes a deposit in her litter box it's never messy and the bony line down her back has disappeared and she feels like a more solid little dog than before. Also, her attitude/outlike is more spritely and she seems to be more energetic. My question: I understand that your professional time is valuable so I'll be brief, is this all right to feed her?

Thanks if you choose to address my question, mama winger.

My time is your time , sweetie. Glad to help if I can :)

First of all, I am so glad your little pooch is doing well. A couple of modifications to her diet, though, may be in order.

Substitute regular beef for lean beef. Lean is good for humans, but dogs need the extra fat. Ratio of meat to other ingredients should be about 50 / 50. Too much protein is a hazard.

You could add a little potato too - it's good for vitamin C content.

Lastly, I would give her a good canine multi-vitamin every day, and perhaps a small rawhide strip as a snack to keep her teeth nice, since she is now eating primarily soft food.

Feel free to ask anytime - I love critters ! :)

I am so sorry to hear about your doggie. I know several doggie friends with lupus. It has a good prognosis if monitored closely and medicated well.

It is an auto-immune disease, in which the anti-bodies in the blood decide to attack your dog's perfectly healthy organs. Often steroids are used to control it, along with supplemental care.

Yes, I know about Haymarket and other abuses very, very well.

May Day has been for way too long associated with anarchists, marxists, and whatever nefarious groups are around.

Therefore, I will do the "labor memorial thing" on Labor Day.

You'd be surprised how many ailments and illnesses dogs share with people. The drugs are often the same too. Weird. I love my lupus dogs at the vet - we share a bond. I always keep a special eye on their bloodwork.

I hope your dog has much success with the treatment. It's a life-long thing.

Thank you so very much! Potatoes are now on my grocery list and I'll buy some good multi-vits for her but Tums? :D That's the first I've heard of it. I will buy some of these too. Oh and BTW, she loves to gnaw her rawhides and her teeth are in great shape (contrary to the fact that yorkie teeth are notorious for being nasty) as I add "Suzie's Tartar Liquid" to her drinking water that keeps her teeth sparkly clean and sweetens her breath.

Thanks, luv, you're a peach!

:D

I would have to disagree with some of that.

The Women's movement in Britain is a classic example of how the radicals hogged the attention, but the real work for women was really done by the moderates. It is a myth to assume that only radicalism could bring changes. To get back to the suffregettes, they did live interesting lives, and therefore, more attention was paid to them. I mean, ladies such as Emmy Pankhurst and her two daughters were fodder for the press of the day.
I did not mean to give the impression that the suffragists were the only factor in women getting the vote. Clearly the role of individual politicians also played an important part in this. So did events such as the First World War (although I believe the impact of this – especially the reward of the vote as a result of women’s contribution to the war effort has been over emphasised).

There were many others involved in the desire for rights, and many were not bomb makers.

Ok, I feel better. I was really worried about you for a few.

I have merely pointed out that ideas such as women's suffrage were, indeed, radical in their day--until they were adopted by the society.

On example that I was alluding to clearly states my reasons why I get peeved at the constant attention given to the more radicals withintheearly political movements. I used Emmy Pankhurst and her two daughters as the example of the more radicals who hogged the attention. On the other hand, the more moderates do not get as much attention, even though they played a significant role. One group was the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies (NUWSS). This group had over100,000 members. The suffragists, led by Millicent Fawcett, was this group that the government was really frightened of. It was an organization that refused to resort to violence. In fact, the tactics of the NUWSS were later adopted by Martin Luther King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). The suffragettes were equivalent to the Blank Panthers.

At its peak, the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) only had around 2000 members (Of these, over 1,000 went to prison). This was to fall dramatically in 1913 when it began its arson campaign. Several of its most important figures left at this point. They also disagreed with the WSPU’s new strategy of arguing in favour of a limited franchise (an attempt to get them the support of the Middle Class). This lost them the support of socialists like Sylvia Pankhurst who was fully committed to getting the vote for all women. By 1914 the WSPUfavor only had a few hundred members. It was a broken organization with all of its leaders either in prison or living in exile.

I am just stubborn in wanting those who did not resort to mass violence get the recognition that they deserve, a recognition they did not get while they were alive.
I do believe geographic maturation does play a roll in my stubbornness when dealing with labor unions, and the role they played in American society. Here, in the South, the unions didnot play a very strong role in society. Indeed, I would have to say that historically speaking, the South was dead-set against unions for several reasons. I stated those reasons before, but I ended up hurting feelings.

Great points.

I never have belonged to any Union, even a teacher's union. Their agenda runs deep, and contributes to groups which I have no interest in funding.

NEA contributions

I do not even belong to any Texas teacher groups.

Historically within the South, there was a fear of northerners "stirring" the mood of African-Americans. Southerners as a rule kept union influence out. Being anti-union became a part of Southern culture for generations. This tied in nicely with the Democratic Party goals for the South for generations.

If you wish to reclaim May Day, I wish you luck. I am now fifty. I grew up with the images of innumerable May Day parades on tv screens taking place in Red Square, Havana, Budapest, Tienanmen Square etc. The association with those knuckleheads will be hard to shake for many Americans for while, I do believe.

Durn, time to go to bed too.

Hope this type of intelligent conversation continues.
:)
Thanks!
