-RetweetLGF Poll: How Many Cars Will Be Torched?

Sun, May 6, 2007 at 10:54:38 am PDT

By most accounts, Nicolas Sarkozy is about to be elected president of France, despite Segolene Royal’s warning of violence. So here’s a simple question about the aftermath of the election:

LGF Poll

Following the election of conservative candidate Nicolas Sarkozy as French president, how many cars will the "youths" burn?

UPDATE at 5/6/07 11:22:37 am:

It’s official: Polls: Sarkozy elected French president.

I said 100-500. In a few days. Only statistically more than normal. But reported as if Karl Marx Himself had come to redeem all the journalists.

Don't they normally burn more than that nightly anyway? Afterall it is the city of (burning car) light...

I'm so happy for France! The socialist biddy will not run them even further into the ground. Hopefully this bodes ill for Shrillary.

And maybe, in time, the French will even start to like themselves again!

Oh Charles - you added a category:

None - Islam is a religion of peace

I would have picked that one, but I already voted.

10 American Jewess In Jerusalem  Sun, May 6, 2007 10:59:13am

If only the youts would just burn cars belonging to the moonbat Royal voters . . .

11 Sideways  Sun, May 6, 2007 10:59:15am

Either fairly low or really high. Don't see a chance of 500-1000. And over 100 would just be a minor increase over normal, would it not?

12 dual_boot_brain  Sun, May 6, 2007 10:59:29am

Darn it, I voted for none, then I realized there wasn't a /sarc tag...

15 Fjordman  Sun, May 6, 2007 11:00:05am

Well, his victory is the only good news to come out of France in a long time, but it does increase the risk of massive violence. I've been saying that Britain was the likely candidate for a full-blown civil war, but maybe France just moved into first place?

16 Against Socialism  Sun, May 6, 2007 11:01:24am

Do you have to be registered at LGF to vote?

There's no way to know : reporting from riots is "interdit" (forbidden).

23 Earth2moonbat  Sun, May 6, 2007 11:03:15am

I voted < 100. As I said in an earlier thread, these people don't think like us. They respect firmness. Once it's obvious that daddy won the election, the tantrums will stop.

24 haakondahl  Sun, May 6, 2007 11:03:36am

Well, it looks like LGF has lowered itself to engage in blatant youthophobia. How much longer will we allow this site to pander to the most vicious of youthophobes? You have to remember that it's only a tiny minority of youths who are violent. You can't focus on them at the expense of the vast majority of moderate, peace loving youths.

29 filetandrelease  Sun, May 6, 2007 11:04:30am

As tempting as "None" was, my bet is over 1000. Also, that will give Sarkozy an opportunity to jump start any measures he is willing to take to clean out the "youts".

Just my $.02, but I don't think that Sarkozy will be a vast improvement.

While I agree that he should be better for Cowboy / Frog relations, recently he's been tracking left. Also, there is an awful lot of hate of us over there. He won't be able to turn that around.

So while I believe that this offers more opportunity for improvements in both our relations with them and their relations with the youts, I will be convinced when I see his actions play out.

I would agree with you except that Sarkozy doesn't take office immediately, does he? Isn't there an interim period? During that time, I could see the youts getting out their aggressions just before they realize they have to settle down. I don't know anything about French politics, just going by how things are done in America.

And who are the jokesters voting for the last option? Very funny.

Actually I don't think it will be that bad. Sarkozy will be "expected", by the voters, to take care of the troublemakers - that's what he has been campaigning on. Riots now would only give him an excuse to demonstrate that he means business. Now that the presidential election is over today, the next election for the parliament is only a few months away. No doubt he would like a chance to prove that the "conservative" party can handle the problems that the socialists created, such as immigration, violence in the streets etc.

Sarkozy is a decent man and I'm glad he won, but he does have his flaws:

French Republican Value: Disarm Yourself for Self Defense

A quote from French Conservative presidential frontrunner Nicolas Sarkozy on RTL radio, 22 September 2006:

I would like to say one thing, in what is my conception of the Republic, security is the responsibility of the State, I am against militias, I am against the private ownership of firearms, and I’m trying to make you think about that. If you are assaulted by an armed burglar, he’ll use his weapon more effectively than you anyway so you’re risking your life. If the criminal is not armed and you are and you shoot, your life will be ruined, because killing someone over a theft is not in line with the republican values that are mine. The private ownership of firearms is dangerous. I understand your exasperation for having been burglarized two times, I understand the fear that your wife and daughter may have but the answer is in the efficiency of the police and the efficiency of the judiciary process, the answer is not in having guns at home.

71 karmic_inquisitor  Sun, May 6, 2007 11:14:26am

#34 uncleFuzzy -

Also, there is an awful lot of hate of us over there. He won't be able to turn that around.

IMO, there was a heck of a lot of hate for us there before 9/11. I worked quite a bit in France in the 90s and the Clinton years produced a certain amount of antipathy towards the US. By and large they didn't mind Clinton and his policies (except that they were too right wing), but thought the US was trying to take over the planet and that our gains were ill-gotten.

None of it would hold up to much examination - you'd just get hand waving about how the Gulf War made us rich and how US companies won contracts through corruption and what not.

Anyways, what surprised me recently upon going back is how the middle class is not singing the same tune anymore. Islamists have done a great job of rebuilding American credibility. Sure - they all think GWB is an idiot and "Irak" a blunder, but that stems more from their prejudices about Arabs ("they can never govern by democracy") than about us. For the middle class, it is good to have an American friend - if for no ther reason then to have a place to escape to in the future.

Anyway - they will never admit it, but they just elected Ronald Reagan, and that is who they were thinking of when they elected him.

Interesting perspective. I tend to agree even though I voted more due to their thugs there that seem to have nothing better to do than terrorize. But you just may be right...those may be much less in number compared to the other riots where people tended to act out to *force* change.

Unless France has had an election overturn due to thug behaviour, most of those just may be tired and accept it.

It certainly was a touch of class for Royal to go on radio and float the idea that if she doesn't win, violence will result. She probably assumed that a vote for her would be a vote for surrendering. For once in France's modern history the surrender option failed to gain much traction.

Sarkozy is poised to institute Le Pen-esque policies cracking down on those he has previously referred to as "rabble" and promised to clean out "with a fire hose"--anybody who doesn't look and act French. If anything, this election proves that Americans don't have a monopoly on reactionary politicians who get elected by using fear, division, and the politics of exclusion.

I understand the fear that your wife and daughter may have but the answer is in the efficiency of the police and the efficiency of the judiciary process, the answer is not in having guns at home.

There would need to be a police officer at every residence, for that ideology to be effective.

I live in a small mid western city, with a population of around 18,000.

I live 2 minutes from the police station, and it takes police 20 minutes to show up, on a pretty serious 911 call.

A lot can happen in twenty minutes, and I will, no matter what any law says, protect my family and myself, even at the risk of prison, even at the risk of death.

"It's better to be tried by 12, than to be carried by 6."

I will never put the safety of my family, at the hands of the police, and honestly, the police don't want that responsability, either.

This guy doesn't sound conservative in the least.

Sark wins? Cool. Of course, a French "Conservative" is like a Ted Kennnedy here, but anybody who calls the Youths what they are ("scum") is OK with me. France is the front line of the Islamic Social War, and if they deal with this problem successfully, there is hope for the rest of Europe.

Royal is eye candy and nothing else. Thank goodness she lost - if the hysterics of the last couple of days were any indication of her "thought" process, her victory would have been like electing a cross between Hillary and that crazy congresswoman from Georgia, with all of Kerry's competence for spice.

I voted over 1,000. They'll try to keep the real number quiet, but all we need to break 1,000 is approximately 1.4 cars burned per No-Go Zone. I think the Muslims can manage that.

It's a disappointing development for our French friends and for the whole world. As many mistakes as Segolene made,...

Heh.

Absolutely lmao!

How can it be disappointing for 'his french friends'. His french friends wouldn't have voted Sarko if they thought it disappointing, would they?

Also, the one who tried to use scare tactics to get elected lost. So on that count our little Koz hypocrite should be happy too.

Careful now...you probably should have said French Equivalent of R.R. Comparing Sarkozy and RR is like equating McCain with RR. They may both be Republicans, but McCain ain't no RR.

Livia Saurin, member of Socialist Party, interviewed on CNN. Promises that the trade unions will make sure that Sarkozy has to pay attention to them, and swears that a great social crisis is beginning in France. CNN says that she has been a party member since she was sixteen.

You know, just back from church, and a sermon about love.

Islam is an evil, possibly even Satanically inspired religion. But we should pray that the people most victimized (well, excluding the victims of terror attacks), the Muslims themselves (especially their women), will somehow realize what Islam is.

That is the true Christian way, anyway.

And it doesn't mean giving Osama bin Laden or Nasrallah a pass if they did convert to Christianity, as they should still face civil justice, and punsihment for terrorism, murder and attempted genocide, including, where applicable, the death penalty.

Just that we should hope they repent before they went to the gallows.

My humble opinion here:

I went to Paris and London in January of 2004. I found that the Paris folk were tons nicer to us than those of London. Now that just floors me. I even have to admit I know not a lick of French. The one lady I talked to in very broken English in France was so nice. She told me that she wished her government would listen to her and know that she likes us. But it was just the one lady I talked to.

Hopefully this election will be the turning point for the French. I just hope that maybe in 2008 we can have our own turning point in this country too. Not going dhimmi, but rather have a president that will stand up to the turds of terror.

Part of that goes without saying, but I am saying that they see the need for such a person in their history.

Another that they won't admit to is Maggie Thatcher. The French hate the English, but envy the success of the English economy. They look at what catalysed the US economic turnaround and what catalysed the UK economic turnaround and they see the same thing - and they want Sarko to be that same person.

One thing that US/UK analysist will completely miss in this election is Le Pen - Le Pen was in the run off last time. Why not this time? Because he had become pro-Arab - the anti semitism was just too welcoming. That, and Arabs make up a sizable portion of the constituency in Le Pen's power base around Marseille. Well that lost Le Pen amny follower because the immigration issue was one of Le Pen's selling points, and when the French talk about "immigration" they are more often than not talking about Arabs and Muslims coming into the country rather than "Polish Plumbers".

Anyways, you are right - French Ronald Reagan.

146 NY Nana  Sun, May 6, 2007 11:39:38am

It seems that Sarkozy is actually a friend of rhe US and Israel..he was born to a Jewish mother who had converted to Catholicism...Analysis: Is France about to become Israel's ally?

[...]From the beginning of the campaign, Sarkozy, who was the least favorite candidate according to polls, has made no secret of his Atlanticism and has promised the Americans "France's friendship."

Contrary to Chirac, Sarkozy has shown outstanding ease in his relations with the United States. He prefers close cooperation with the United States to an alliance with the increasingly anti-American Arab world. Whereas Chirac used to speak of the United States as a rival, Sarkozy prefers to evoke the American ally, which together with France and the entire Western world is facing the same terrorist threat.

It is possible that Sarkozy if elected would change France's course for the first time since it was set by President Charles de Gaulle, the founder of the country's current political structure, in 1967.[...]

[...]Regarding Israel, Sarkozy has promised a more balanced French policy. Last March, he asserted that French decision-makers should be able "to say a certain number of truths to our Arab friends, for example, the right for Israel to exist and to live safely is not negotiable, and that terrorism is their true enemy." He also declared himself ready to defend "the integrity of Lebanon," including the disarmament of Hizbullah.

The majority of French citizens living in Israel have indeed been convinced by Sarkozy's stance on the Middle East. Over 80 percent voted for him in the first election round, representing the greatest number of votes for Sarkozy among French expatriates.

By pointing out the responsibility of Islamist groups in the violent riots that occurred in France during the fall of 2005, and by focusing his political program on a stricter French immigration policy, Sarkozy has alienated a significant number of French Muslims. Moreover, because he is seen as pro-American, he is viewed with mistrust by most of them. If elected president, he will undoubtedly have to redefine the terms of the old Gaullist alliance between Europe and the Maghreb/Middle East vis- -vis the American power.[...]

We can only hope...

...maybe their "leaders" can rub a few brain cells between them and tell the younguns what not to do.

I think these points, combined, are the strongest argument against any large spike in street violence before the June 10 first round. A comparatively conservative head of state saddled with a virulently liberal parliament has been a very workable situation so far.

The Islamists will be playing nice-nice, maybe even across the whole continent: laying low; letting the girls out without naqib; trying to restrain their Koran-carrying rapists, muggers, and vandals; shutting up about Euro-wide Sharia; maybe even turning loose a few aspiring apostates.

After the June 17 second round, all that will surely change, as the time will be declared to punish the rebellious French populace. And the socialist bureaucracy will work hard to block any measures to stop it, and pursue every appeasement.

A nice quote from one of Sarko's speeches:

I respect all cultures around the world. But it should be understood that if one lives in France one respects the values and laws of the Republic (french).

That would shut France down in a heartbeat.

183 BeckoningChasm  Sun, May 6, 2007 12:01:12pm

I hope this makes a difference in France, but I have my doubts: politicians run on certain platforms/issues, only to find out "reality is different" and they act like the folks who are already in power.

Still, this is a good sign I think.

184 El matamoros  Sun, May 6, 2007 12:02:21pm

Here is something else to put into perspective in regards to the french electorate. 10% of France is now Muslims and they would never vote for Sarkozy. SO if you take the 90% of native French who voted and minus the 10% Muslim that means that "native" French voted for Sarcozy by a much larger magin that the 53% that he won.
He won 63% of the "native" French Vote.
I am reminded of the Physics law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
This is natives frances "riot".

I really hadn't been following these elections until now but I'm really impressed by him. It's also a bit shocking that the French problems with the RoP means things like genital mutilation and burkas get mentioned in political speeches.

I couldn't imagine that here.

Aylios

I have followed this election only from an amused spectator's perch.

If those are real quotes, from a real head of state, albeit France, that is very interesting.

What it tells me, is that they are further along in their problems than what the media could cover up.

Hell, I am impressed.

I am impressed with topics he covered. I would be amazed even more, if his opponent, out of spite, specifically did not address these issues. Especially because they have been traditionally left wing avante-guard in politics.

I suspect I might have to get more involved about the European political lanscape.

193 grumpy old codger  Sun, May 6, 2007 12:08:12pm

I'll feel a little more at ease about the situation in France, when I read or hear of some things from the gold old days.
When I was a student in Paris, after the 1968 student riots, the CRS has a bus permanently stationed at Place St. Michel, on the Left Bank.
These specially trained riot police sat in a bus, 24/7, just waiting for somebody to breathe wrong.
With all the news about recent French police activities, re "no go" zones, etc., I'll wait and see how "le etat protecteur" acts when little Abdul decides to torch his local car park. If the cars keep burning, then it's business as usual. Sark's comments about no private weapons coupled with a "quelle dommage" (and gallic shoulder shrug) have placed the onus on the police. Are they/is he up to the job?

You are right.

It seems that both the US and Israel can hope to see France an ally, if Sarkozy can be tough. He is also against illegals, which could possibly lead to laws severely limiting the onslaught of the cult of islam into France, thus putting an end to the slaughter of French Jews. He visited the Kotel when in Israel...there is a smaller photo on the article.

Since his impressive win came even though his family background was known, possibly France is awakening, albeit late in the game, to the menace of the cult of islam, and the fact that the US and Israel will make better friends than enemies, we can hope.

That was the last model Peugot imported before they gave up the NA market. It wasn't their best offering. Still hard to wrap my mind about this:

Six months after American voters chose socialists who favor surrender and appeasement of the Islamists, France rejects a socialist who favors appeasement and surrender.

I'm with you there. The ray of hope is that there is still time for the Dems to shoot themselves in the foot before the next election and they seem hell-bent on doing it.

30 cars torched so far and counting...

I'd like to see a study on what the last couple of Yute Yrs. have done to property values and Insurance Rates, cars and bldgs.

There is a cost to this anarchy.

283 average_guy  Sun, May 6, 2007 2:41:10pm

There should have been a sarc tag on that last option on the poll...

284 anotherindyfilmguy  Sun, May 6, 2007 3:00:32pm

Good for France... of course I cannot help but note this:
IIRC he's not native born to the country he now runs.

The last two big non-native to the country they were in charge of (in Europe) leaders that come to mind were Hitler and Napolean.

Hopefully he'll do better than they did in leading their new homelands. But then as long as he doesn't try go empie build and trys to overturn national socialism he should do well...

None - Islam is a Religion of Peace 19%

/Someone is having fun with the poll!

286 MigueldowninMexico  Sun, May 6, 2007 4:55:46pm

Those who said "None" had lost even before they voted! Cars were torched last night on account of today's election LOL

287 ctrlL  Sun, May 6, 2007 4:58:14pm

Congratulations to France !

Voted for < 100. I am confident that there will be a change in how the violence is handled. IF come down hard on the perpetrators (YOUTS), they may just strike the fear of GOD into them.
Said with hope and a prayer ...

/bon chance

288 Daisy  Sun, May 6, 2007 5:36:12pm

Okay .. I admit it - I voted for "Less Than 100".

My thinking? With Sarkozy on board, the ROP's Youts will think twice (maybe three times) before burning Parisian's cars.

Love the poll Charles! Thanks!

289 hbudd  Sun, May 6, 2007 6:12:17pm

Great poll, Charles. We laughed heartily. We hope against all evidence other than today's election that France is coming to its senses.

290 Airedale  Sun, May 6, 2007 6:16:23pm

Ok
Who's tracking the car fire counter?
what are we at now?
btw,
I picked less than 100.
I'm thinking 98 or there abouts.
I presume the entire month of May will be the official clock ?

If you voted "none, Islam is a ROP", were you joking? If not, did you learn anything when you heard that they did, in fact, torch cars?

Just askin'...

293 ajaxlikid  Mon, May 7, 2007 3:54:36am

And the winner is...
367 cars torched over the night

294 Trumpeter  Mon, May 7, 2007 6:32:54am

Is Paris burning?
Who? Who is burning Paris?

History is arguably more important that current events. The fact that Google is erasing the visual memory of the Beslan school massacre in their image search engine, and rapidly, is an example of a minor agent ostensibly in service to the public attempting to rewrite history by simply making it disappear from the awareness of the majority of people, thereby making it seem as though it did not exist at all.

Did Google actually think that the French election of Sarkozy would supply the perfect cover for their quiet whitewash of the very worst of Islamist radicalism, or were they just tired of all that lost bandwidth to the sickos who really enjoyed seeing broken and destroyed children?

Go ahead, be daring. YOU make the call.
