Ron Paul Lied, Database Died!

Wed, Jun 13, 2007 at 11:58:56 am PDT

More than 60% of LGF readers agree that the hidden hand of Ron Paul was behind our server’s hard drive crash last weekend:

LGF Poll

No one was fooled by LGF's so-called "hard drive failure." Only a hapless brainwashed minion of The Man would believe such a transparently false excuse. In the history of the world, data has never melted an entire web site! Who do you think is really behind the 6/9 LGF Hard Drive Hoax?

Unfortunately, as I’ve been cleaning up the mess, I’ve discovered something that will make it necessary to take LGF offline for a few hours: the indexes for the table containing our comments weren’t properly rebuilt when the database was restored. This means that a lot of common queries—like showing all the comments for a post, or searching comments—are working much more slowly than they should.

The bad news is that with 3.8 million comments in the table, building the indexes will take hours.

The good news is that the indexes should be in great shape after it’s finished, newly rebuilt and fully optimized, and access should be about as fast as it will ever get.

I’ll wait until later this evening to start the process. (This is just an advance warning so I don’t get a hundred emails.)
