I seriously doubt that "conciliation" had anything to do with it.

If Hamas does a wholesale roundup-and-execute of Fatah loyalists in Gaza, Fatah will do the same to Hamas in the West Bank, where Fatah is much stronger militarily.

These Hamas "militants" are acting literally like children. They climb inside the x-ray machine, they rifle through the grown-ups' desks, they steal the stuff out of the refrigerator, they shoot at random into stuff they don't like.

Then they take pictures off their antics and post them on their MySpace page.

Yeah. Right. I wonder if Abbas is really stupid enough to fall for this? And if he is, he truly deserves everything that happens thereafter.

Reagan's 'tear down this wall' speech turns 20

When Ronald Reagan stood in front of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago and challenged Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to ''tear down this wall,'' few believed it might someday happen. Two decades later, the speech has passed into history as one of the ''great communicator's'' most stirring moments. Germany's biggest-selling newspaper, Bild, proclaimed this week that ''Reagan's great speech changed the world.'' At the time, though, it received a muted reception.

German brain drain at highest level since 1940s

For a nation that invented the term "guest worker" for its immigrant labourers, Germany is facing the sobering fact that record numbers of its own often highly-qualified citizens are fleeing the country to work abroad in the biggest mass exodus for 60 years. Leading economists and employers say the trend is alarming. They note that many among Germany's new breed of home-grown "guest workers" are highly-educated management consultants, doctors, dentists, scientists and lawyers. Stephanie Wahl, of the Institute for Economics, based in Bonn, said that those who are leaving Germany are mostly highly motivated and well educated. "Those coming in are mostly poor, untrained and hardly educated," she added. The current exodus hardly fits in with the official view of the German economy, which is said to be "booming".

Bell-Towers and Mosque Chants Cause Commotion

Tilburg municipality is fining a pastor for ringing his church bells, because they are too loud. In Rotterdam on the other hand, no measures are expected against the praises to Allah that ring out through Delfshaven district. Pastor Harm Schilder of the Holy Margarita Mary Church has to pay 5,000 euros every time he rings his bells. Following complaints from residents, the municipal executive decided on noise measurements, which led to the conclusion that the decibel production was unacceptably high. The pastor was ordered to purchase smaller bells, but refused.

The pastor rings has been ringing his bells on weekdays at 7.15 a.m. Alderman Marieke Moorman rejected his appeal to freedom of religion, reported local newspaper Brabants Dagblad. From Friday, the Labour (PvdA) Alderman will send a 5,000-euro fine every time the bells ring. The pastor has already said he will simply go ahead. In Rotterdam, there are no plans as far as is known to take any action against the An Nasr mosque in Delfshaven district. The news website Geenstijl.nl showed a film clip this week which shows how loudly the mosque - located in a former church - calls its followers to prayer in Arabic chants. Over 400, mostly angry comments were posted in response. The film is also on youtube.com/watch?v=YEWrlq0s8YI.

Minority youth target gays

Youth of ethnic background, primary from Moroccan families, are regularly hanging about well-known gay meeting places in Amsterdam in order to rob men there of their money. They also sometimes make appointments online, posing as homosexual, to rob them in their homes once they are invited over.

Would He Were the President of France

A quote from Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, in The Financial Times, 13 June 2007

As someone who lived under communism for most of his life, I feel obliged to say that I see the biggest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity now in ambitious environmentalism, not in communism. This ideology wants to replace the free and spontaneous evolution of mankind by a sort of central (now global) planning.

After the fellatio that Trent Lott administered to Ted Kennedy last week over the immigration bill, he'd best be scared of 'talk radio'. Some patriotic American from Mississippi will challenge Lott in the next GOP primary, and just playing Lott's ode to the DWI Killer over and over again should guarantee that Lott doesn't return to the Senate, no matter how much pork he can drag to the shipyard in Pascagoula.

Der- check Hugh Hewitt- found quote

TL: This is time where we are going to see whether we are a United States Senate anymore. Are we men or mice? Are we going to slither away from this issue and hope for some epiphany to happen? No. Let's, let's let's legislate. Let's vote. I think the majority leader has a right to expect at some point we end it. Try and cover as many objections with as many amendments as we can. But at some point we have got to get this done...

Senator Kennedy, I appreciate the legislative leadership you have been providing. I know it is not easy, you know, and your own colleagues and those of us over here have been beating you up. I mean, your a nice poster child. Thank you very much for what you do. But I'll tell you one thing I have learned the hard way. When it comes to legislating, when you are dealing with Senator Kennedy, you had better bring your lunch, because you are going to get educated, you are going to learn a lot, and you are going to get a result. Hopefully it is going to be a good one. Good luck, senator from Massachusetts. I yield the floor.

TK: And the senator too. I thank my friend from Mississippi, and I commend him for a constructive and a positive attitude.

You know... I'm fine with what Lott said... if you listen... and understand that the root of politics is the ability to be polite... you'll hear that what Lott is saying is that a) Kennedy has been in the Senate so long, his buttprint is permanently engraved to his chair. b) Kennedy has his fingers in everything and can really screw anyone in the Senate over if he wants to. c) Anyone who wants to get anything done, especially with too many Democrats on the hill, has to make nice words in Kennedy's direction because he's an egomaniac with the power to ruin things.

What a ridiculous picture..

A 'fighter' with a bag on his head, crawls into a position where he can't see behind him and can't get up and run?

More like children goofing around than fighters.

It really it poetic, in its own way.

Technology created with the express purpose to protect the world from HIM.

Maan news is pretty interesting. They apparently publish in English, Hebrew, and Arabic, but if you look at all three sites they do not reflect the same content.

131 Bill K.  Fri, Jun 15, 2007 2:59:29pm

It looks like Israel has been caught with its pants down again.

Hamas has taken possession of hundreds of thousands of documents cataloguing the clandestine operations of Western intelligence services in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and the oil emirates. It is now the owner of complete archives of Palestinian undercover links with foreign intelligence services going back decades, with names of spies, political collaborators and double agents. The documentation covers the secret ties Palestinian intelligence maintained from the 1970s, when Yasser Arafat was based in Lebanon, with the Americans, the British, the French, the Israelis and many others.

Most intelligence experts say Israel should have bombed the two buildings and destroyed their contents rather than letting them fall into the hands of an organization and country dedicated to its eclipse.

Have all the intelligence services in the West become incompetent clowns? Or is paralysis in the face of danger is what years of appeasement of Islamic terrorism have produced in Israeli and American politicians?

That is important -- Charles needs to post that as an update.

I thought something was out of place there. The photo was just too clean, simple, and I doubt that even a jihadi would climb into one (for what purpose? And it would be difficult to get out quickly, if necessary). And his weapon is nearly pointing at the photographer, who appears to be in close proximity. Too late for that analysis, I know, and us Lizards can be faulted for buying in to the original (myself included). Can't let our guards down here.

But now that this has been revealed, this is worthy of further analysis. So AP posted that photo, without noting that they were just "joking"? And where's the joke? Is it something along the lines of a challenging threat to airport security? And this jokester, lest we forget, is a member of a group of people who is causing all sorts of brutal murder and chaos. And what does it say about the AP reporters, if they're so chummy with Hamas?

142 Perplexed  Sat, Jun 16, 2007 9:26:40am

I sincerely hope that the x-ray source was turned on and he received at least a 80MLD. 80MLD is the dosage that would kill roughly 80% of the people exposed to it and am hoping that he isn't in the 20% who would, somehow survive the exposure.

As far as I can tell, this jack*ss is taking a trophy picture to yuck it up with his buddies.

This is a great picture--as is the one with the idiots sitting at the computer terminals with RPGs over their shoulders. I would hope anyone who sees it, even a L3 moonbat, could interpret the stark meaning: that the reach of the Jihadis is increasiningly encroaching on the civilized world.

That's a good point -- I can imagine that. And I can imagine the whole scene developing, something like "Hey guys, here's a photographer. Pictures he takes will be seen all over the world." And so they set up the shots, the photographers obediently comply, and little is said in the article about the set-up, if anything.
